I don't have any experience with sync issues, but I can tell you that fixing the broken lock piece on your joycon is both simple and cheap. You can find the part you need here: Joy Con Buckle Repair Tool Kit for Nintendo Switch NS Joy Con With Replacement Parts Of Left and Right Metal Lock Buckle,Screwdrivers,Screws,Crowbar,Sping Made By OLCLSS https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07BDHQTT6/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_oNlcBbYZSYW3K.
It's a very easy repair and will replace your broken plastic locks with metal ones. Good luck either way!

u/1LT_0bvious · 6 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I put metal latches on all joy cons I purchase. Significant improvement and honestly should be the standard. Makes them connect to the console much more securely.

u/Sterling-4rcher · 2 pointsr/SwitchHacks

did you use any tools to bend them?
i played around with some clips and wire and had quite the hard time to make even bends and not be off by a fraction of a millimeter. even the best one still doesn't hit both the pins reliably on its own, without taking a flashlight and checking multiple times.

its always seems like one side of the clip wanted off to the side of the pins when inserted and trying to correct that makes it skip a pin.

also kinda worried that it might, over time, scratch away at the contacts.

dunno, might eventually get something like this and solder

just to keep the contacts healthy

Have you used the controls test function in the settings menu, to verify that it's only the left stick that's acting up? If all the other buttons work well, you can do what I did to fix my analog stick drift.

I got these sticks and installed them using the Y000 bit from this set, following this tutorial on iFixit. The whole process took maybe 10 minutes per device, just take your time, be gentle, and double check the instructions.

(Be aware that "Y" and "tri-wing" screws are often conflated but slightly different shapes. You can probably find a better deal on a suitable screwdriver but the ones I linked worked for me and shipped next-day, and I figure now I have an assortment for next time they're needed.)

ETA: just noticed that they sell a "kit" with one stick instead of two and a set of screwdrivers. Could save a few bucks but only the two-stick pack comes with Prime shipping.

Well, you don't, get a Nintendo screwdriver set. You should be able to open and buy new sticks for it.

Owning a screwdriver kit is a good idea. Rather than buying new joycons just repair them. Metal locks for example cost like 3$, and will make your joycons never slip off again.

Something like this.

Cool, that's good to know. In case anyone is curious this is the first one that shows up on amazon. I might pick it up as it also comes with the necessary screwdrivers and I was thinking of replacing my greys with color cases and needed a screwdriver anyway: https://www.amazon.com/Version-Replacement-Nintendo-Joy-Cons-Screwdrivers/dp/B07926M1QJ/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=joycon+latch&qid=1554739045&s=gateway&sr=8-1

If you're able to do a shell swap on your joy cons, you can easily do this one. You just need to order a pokeball plus control stick (Here is an amazon link, but you can get them much cheaper). It lets you press the face buttons more easily without accidentally tapping the right stick up.

So I just ordered a joycon latch repair kit (I now have two broken latches, I maybe should just get the lite). Both of my latches are from two different left joycons, what I'm wondering is, are the top and bottom latches made the same? As in could I use the latch meant for the bottom of a joycon as a top latch on the same sided joycon? Also here is a link to the product I bought. If my question is confusing I'll try and go into more detail, any help is appreciated!

Replace it with these. Get a better tool set though if you don’t have one.

TPLGO 2 Pack Joy Con Analog Joystick, Thumb Stick, Rocker 3D for Joy-con Replacement with Repair Tool + 4 Thumbstick Caps for Nintendo Switch

Came with everything I needed except for instructions that I just looked for on YouTube. It's simple in explanation but a test of patience in execution. Also keep in mind if something does go south, you're out of a Joycon.

If you're interested (though this also means GameStop won't take them, because you'll void your warranty) you can get metal pins to replace the plastic ones.

Here's a link to one of them, though there are several options.

u/ErrorEra · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

can buy 3rd party -metal- replacements for that little latch part on ebay/amazon

> Though I suspect replacing a joystick in a joy-con was probably easier than replacing the digitizer in the main unit.

Considering you can get a digitizer on Amazon for about 17 bucks or from iFixit for about 20 the price difference isn't all that huge, assuming it's really the digitizer that's broken and not the main board. And also assuming you're comfortable enough with replacing the digitizer.

u/Hell0352 · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

I just bought the new Switch last week. I hadn't noticed a difference but since I left my wife my original switch I checked both just now and they are identical in how much they wiggle in any direction which is to say not at all.

That said I run modded joycons because the original plastic latch that holds the joycons into my switch broke so I've replaced it on all my joycons. I did notice after replacing this latch everything felt firmer when attaching to the switch.

u/ggppjj · 13 pointsr/Games

This is the exact kit I bought. My only real reasoning in getting it was that it included stock-looking sticks and the metal replacement locks. Other than that, any other well-reviewed kit should work just as well. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07R6RRF74/

u/Yakob57 · 1 pointr/Switch

I ordered a kit on amazon for around $9.99 US dollar to swap the plastic pieces out for metal ones. My left one gave out last night I was bummed to find out they made them with brittle plastic.

u/Tron_Kitten · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

Give me a sec and I'll see if I can find a picture, not at home at the moment

Edit: Here's an amazon link for it

I personally haven't had an issue with the joycons sliding out so far, but the parts came with the kit I bought so I have them for if it ever happens

u/e__hazzle · 1 pointr/Joyconswap

understandable, here they are without the tools

u/coreykill99 · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

you can attempt a tear down of the left joycon. plenty of youtube videos showing how and attempt to clean it.

and if its not "dirty" for like 3 dollars you can actually replace the actuation button for ZL if its the button that's faulty. its just a little tiny PCB on a ribbon cable.

more than I paid but this is what your looking for

https://www.amazon.com/Ximimark-Replacement-Nintendo-Controller-Buttons/dp/B07HK9Q9R7/ref=sr_1_8?keywords=nintendo+switch+zl+button&qid=1557062780&s=gateway&sr=8-8

u/Keeping_Secrets · 4 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Everyone is giving you snarky remarks but it's actually something you can fix on your own very easily.

Buy this kit from Amazon and watch a tutorial on how to fix it. The only thing I had trouble with is almost stripping a screw but I was being lazy.

u/Cheetablaze · 24 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Had the same problem, went to amazon and bought this. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07926M1QJ?psc=1&ref=yo_pop_mb_pd_title

Took less than 10 minutes to swap the latches out.

u/TemptedTemplar · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

The plastic locks likely broke or wore down enough to the point where they no longer lock.

There a metal latch kits if youre feeling up to fixing it. Usually doesnt take more than an hour to do both.

u/khullen · 2 pointsr/AnimalCrossing

Not exactly - so, on the inside of the Joycon is a latch that connects to the Switch itself. The latch is plastic, and if you ever accidentally drop the Switch and a Joycon is knocked loose, it will never fit properly again unless that latch inside is replaced. Instead of replacing it with another plastic latch, use this set of metal latches instead.

u/Duymon · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

This is because the the piece of plastic in the joycon latch has failed.

When the plastic latch has failed, the joycons will not securely lock-in anymore.

It is designed to fail before perm damage is done to the console, especially when the console falls and lands on the joycon first.

You can buy replacement plastic latches at places like Amazon. Example below:

>https://www.amazon.com/Plastic-Slider-Buckle-Nintendo-Controller/dp/B07BG1C15P/ref=pd_lpo_vtph_147_lp_tr_img_2?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=NNA0SHGCQA5ZGECYEWCE

There's an alternative as well. YOu can buy metal latches that will never fail. However, by doing that if you drop your switch the chance of permanent damage to the rails is higher since the metal latches will not fail as easily.
