So you’ve got a few things to look at here. A lot of this may have already been mentioned but there’s a way to effectively live out of your car!

  • The biggest problem Ive ran into was being able to sleep in the car comfortably without having to worry about being groggy the next day. If you don’t have tint in your cars, I recommend having shades. This helps to limit suspicious people looking in on you and helps to block out the light from nearby. But I’d recommend getting this mattress for your car: http://www.amazon.com/Car-Travel-Inflatable-Mattress-Parent-child/dp/B00AUP7O1I

  • Have a laptop with good battery life and have headphones. Hearing noises throughout the night while in the car can really be annoying, but it’s also important to be alert. Because you’re living in your car, you don’t want to fall victim of a mugging.

  • When it comes to places to sleep, i’ve personally found that hotel parking lots usually are the better choices. Places that are 24 hours are definitely your Go-To because you want that constant availability for security and in case of an emergency (you always want to have someone nearby).

  • As mentioned, a Gym membership is also one of the most important things to have. Hygiene will be extremely important and having a gym membership allows you to have a place to workout in, use Wi-Fi at, take showers, etc. You can even use the parking lot here and use those bathrooms if you ever need to go throughout the night.

  • PO Boxes can be handy but make sure you do have a valid address on your drivers license. If you’re ever stopped by the police, you’re best not to try and bullshit with them and be honest. If you’re resting on a private establishment, tell them you’ll be on your way.

  • Food becomes the next thing. If you have a solar charger available or a wall outlet, a Slow Cooker (Crockpot) or Rice cooker can be one of the most beneficial appliances to have around. Keeping a cooler in your car with some important items is definitely necessary. Water is good to have, but natural fruit juices are actually a bit better for you here.

  • You’re going to have some free time on your hands, so a part time job may be your next best option. I usually try to position the jobs so you do have some time to yourself. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.

  • Get your learning on with your time you have. Laundromats are pretty beneficial, but I haven’t really encountered those with Wi-Fi. McDonalds or your Gym are pretty good for Wi-Fi usage, but there’s a lot of things you can actually do offline. If you’re using a Mac or Safari, save articles to your Reading list for some offline reading, or download some informational videos. iTunes U is extremely good if you’re wanting to learn some new subjects. If you’re able to use a Wi-Fi network without any issues, check out sites like Codecademy to really boost your skills.

  • Remain positive always. Meditating is really good for helping to clear your mind. There’s a good post here on how to effectively meditate if you’re relatively new to it. Using sites like Facebook can get quite depressing seeing the crap that’s posted, so I’d stay away from there.

  • Stay Safe. It’s easier said than done in some areas. While it’s cheaper to live in your car, it’s risky and you’re going to encounter some obstacles. This should only be done short term until you can manage to get an awesome apartment for quite cheap!

That’s about it for the tips that I can think of right off the bat. A good subreddit I stumbled across after going through this (and mentioned here a few times) is /r/vandwellers. If I think of anything else, i’ll edit them right in here! Hope this helps and good luck out there.

I have moved countries 4 times now. What I usually do is sell off as much as I can to have money to buy the basics in a new country/state.

Like that I save on cost of transporting furniture and so on and instead invest that into things like a sofa bed and table, kitchen stuff.

It’s not easy but it avoids unnecessary costs.

Basics I try to buy fast are:
Sofa bed or a good air mattress (Amazon has pretty good ones for under $100, I have this one air mattress ) - if you can buy a sofa bed as it doubles way better as sofa to sit on during the day sofa ikea has good options sofa bed
Foldable table (again amazon, they are height adjustable and I can use them as table to prep food, dinner table and couch table , I usually buy 2) table

Most apartments in the US come with walk-in closets so that’s a great plus if not you can get pretty cheap roller wardrobes. A friend of mine has this wardrobe

It’s not much but it helps for the first few months and then over time when you have more money you start buying things like a proper bed, desk and so on.

I always prioritize kitchen appliances as I love cooking and will move the better ones I have but then buy cheap plates and so on.

Hope this helps to get an idea of what’s possible on a smaller budget

I don't know what kinds of activities you do but I make jewelry, sew, and do old school photography methods that require a decent amount of equipment and I brought everything but my sewing machine (which I only left with my mom because I didn't think I'd be near an electrical outlet enough to justify bringing it lol), and gog has a suitcase of books we affectionately called the "library". So all of our hobbies, plus our clothes, cooking equiptment, food (perishable in a cooler and nonperishable in a sturdy canvas bag), 8 gallons of water, our bed, and other random stuff I'm neglecting to think of fit pretty comfortably in the caravan. I'd be happy to send you photos of our setup to give you a better sense of it if you want.
also, if you're thinking of going in a car you should check out things like this... http://www.amazon.com/Car-Travel-Inflatable-Mattress-Parent-child/dp/B00AUP7O1I
someone showed it to me awhile back and I thought it was kind of brilliant.
Also, roadtrippers.com is a great way to find things to see or do. ( For those of you looking at all my replies I swear I don't work for roadtrippers.com, I only keep mentioning it because I have found the app and the website to be super useful) Or google "weird things to see in (or along) insert town or highway here"

u/Kvothe_Kingkiller · 2 pointsr/malelivingspace

Just an opinion, but I'd avoid the futon if at all possible. I know they are supposed to be the perfect mix between a couch and a bed, but in my experience they end up not doing either very well. And they really do scream "college guy," which I assume is something you are trying to get away from.

I recently faced the same dilemma (and am moving into a place that is about the same size as yours), and while there are some sleeper sofas out there that can pull double duty and look nice, limiting yourself to that makes it much harder to find something you really like.

My honest advice? Find a couch you love and buy that, then buy a really nice air mattress for those days when someone needs to crash at your place. Honestly, the folks that have slept on the one I have claim it's as comfortable if not more comfortable than most beds.

In case you are curious, I ended up ordering a custom couch from Joybird and currently have this air mattress.

u/ttbblog · 3 pointsr/CampingGear

Awesome! I remember camping with my parents from the time I was knee high. What great memories.

For car camping, we use a standard home queen sized air mattress. We use one of these to air it up. Depending on the weather, you can get by with using your own bedding and pillows. Big savings there. And bonus - you now have an air mattress for the unexpected guest.

A good Coleman two burner camp stove is a great investment. As is, as someone else mentioned, a separate set of camping cookware.

Have a great time!

When I started to up my camping game, I bought two of these 'self-inflating' pads for me and the lady and was super super happy as they are very very comfortable.

Thermarest LuxuryMap self-inflating air mattress.

Only problem is, they take a while to setup and they don't pack very small. Yes, they do roll up to a nice compact roll, but nothing like the straight air mattresses out there. I picked up one of these NeoAir xlite pads that was similar in size to the others I bought but it packs down to literally the size of a water bottle. Amazing.

Thermarest NeoAir xlite max SV

'max' means its square, not mummy shaped

'sv' means it has a roll top so inflating/deflating is WAY faster

This is more of a backpacking air mattress in general but to be honest even when not backpacking I love packing light and small. The fact that I can fit an entire sleep system (pick up a nice sleeping bag and inflatable pillow to go with these) in my bag along with a weekend of clothes is pretty amazing to me. Beats the hell out of crashing on someone's floor or couch if you're visiting.

Onnnnly caveat to the xlite is the 'crinkle factor'. It is a bit noisy and depending on you and your partner it may be annoying. I find that when i'm alone it doesn't bother me at all but if I'm with a partner it can disturb them....this may be more to do with being in a 'camping environment' vs just sleeping at home but whatever...the more you know ;)

edit: also research the r-factor concerning your note on the cold. An R- value of 3+ is generally plenty, which both of these pads have. The cheapies on amazon are very very low R-value, like 1.x. Not ideal for a lot of conditions.

That's crazy, I did the same thing!

I went camping for about a week last month for the Solar Eclipse in my 2016 Foz. With the front seats all the way forward, I was able to fit my twin-size inflatable bed from Amazon (http://amzn.to/2w5egf6) perfectly. It was incredibly comfy, and panoramic sunroof was a great thing; falling asleep to a giant star-lit sky was a surreal experience since I'm from NYC.

  • It's funny you mention the keyless locks because that's exactly what I did. Woke up all my friends when my car alarm was blaring at 8AM.
  • I would idle the engine for about 30 minutes with the AC blasting to cool the whole car down right before bed. My car-sleeping-enjoyment-factor skyrocketed because of that. It was definitely worth the gallon of gas that my car consumed for the whole week.
  • I used the footwells in the rear passenger seats to store some of my stuff when the car was in "sleep mode". Doing so helped support the bed in the 7-8 inch gap between the folded seats and the front seats.
  • I'm 6'2" and fit perfectly. Any taller and I would've had to scrunch.
  • The inability to open the hatch from the inside still exists in the SJ Foresters. This made for fun yoga positions trying to hoist myself in and out of the rear doors.

I want to make a solar-heated pressurized water pipe to attach to my roof racks( a la https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dG2HK9JsAjw). Cleaning with body wipes gets tiring real quick.

One tip, if you're camping in a humid area, do NOT leave your windows open! I have door screens that allowed me to roll the windows down without letting the bugs through. However, I woke up to condensation all inside my car, even behind my Starlink screen. Never again, and that's why I started using the AC.

Tickets will be available for a while as I didn't buy my tickets last year until April. But always better sooner rather than later. My girlfriend and I went from CT to Defqon 1 2016. I highly recommend getting a tipi instead of a tent because a) you're guaranteed campsite 1 or 2 which are very close to the stages so you don't have to walk as much. Last year my girlfriend and I were all the way at campsite 6 which is about 30-60 minute to go and come back. B) it seems to be a guarantee nowadays that it will rain at Defqon and it gets very muddy very fast. Tipis fight the mud and also you have a mini fridge and electricity

Bring an air mattress and don't skimp out on this as you'll really regret it. I got this one https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00J1WEQJO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It gets cold very fast at night so bring some warm clothes/blanket so you can rave/sleep at a comfortable temperature.

Flight is around 800-900.

GO TO THE SATURDAY AFTER PARTY OMG ITS FUCKING AWESOME

Bring some shoes with some real good support because my girlfriend had one of those thin Champion running shoes and hurt her ankle because of it.

Bring a battery bank in case your phone needs juice during concert.

There's also a water bottle that they sell that has a clip that attaches to your pant hooks, 100% worth the purchase because you'll need water through the 3 days.

I have some friends that come from Hamburg and they take the train so that's something you could consider if you want to go to Germany.

You're allowed to bring food and water into Defqon at your first entrance. Which means bring all the snacks and drinks you can when you come in or else you're stuck buying stuff at the event which gets expensive.

My girlfriend and I brought 500 euros to spend while at Defqon and we only spent half of it. This included merchandise and food.

I'll try to think of more as I go but that's what I can think of right now.

Edit: added more tips

Edit 2: Tipi's come in 2, 5, 7, 9 people sizes and also come "With a good location on Camping Ground 1, field beds, sleeping bags and pillows, you will survive the weekend easily." - Defqon 1 site

Pre-made tents comes: "With the pre set-up package, your 2-person Defqon.1 tent will be ready for you on Camping Ground 1, including one air mattress, sleeping bags, a light and a lock." - Defqon 1 Site

We have put up out-of-town guests at a friend's house, if you have any close friends with spare bedrooms in larger homes who wouldn't mind sharing. I have a friend with a large basement with a bathroom and bedroom that she would let me use for my older family, they're there basically to shower/sleep only.

For the kid brother and younger guests who don't mind roughing it and have good joints and backs, they get a very nice air mattress in the squishy gaming room. This is the air mattress, it was worth every penny and is super comfortable. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FAW4O0A

Lets face it, we are all adults here, and as adults, we know what we need after a long day at work.. you get home, its already waiting for you, you touch it, feel how its silky and inviting, but also somewhat firm. Plain and simple.... it wants to be abused.. use it how you see fit.. you take your time, enjoying how it feels, then you realize how easy it goes in and out.. you never knew it was this enjoyable... so you take it out... get on top of it.. and sink into the best sleep youve ever had.. go ahead, pull it out..

u/I_Cant_Math · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

So I was looking through your wishlist and I see a lot of things you really don't need. I took it upon myself to prune your list and save you some money.

$200 for a mattress? Get this highly attractive and equally awesome queen size pull out sofa for just $60.

A tie rack? Real men make their own.

Mini fridge. Bam, $12.

Odor Eliminator Gel? Use vinegar.

Cleaner/Degreaser? Vinegar.

Make your own laundry detergent.

Cloth wipes will save you so much money, and they feel soo nice on the butt. Just ask my son!

Reed Diffusers? Pffft, just pick up some cedar shavings and shove them into corners. You'll be smelling like a real man in no time.

I guess your friends need somewhere to sit. Carry on. But you can make your own bean bag by sewing up a sheet and collecting all the packing materials you get from RAoA boxes.

I have yet to take this to the burn, but have used it several times and it's held up great. One usage was a 4 day festival. Seems pretty well made. It's about $25 more than when I bought it, though.

u/MedCityMoto · 5 pointsr/motocamping

I have several tents, but the one the girlfriend and I used exactly as you're proposing when we camped the Black Hills last year was great. Let me look in my Amazon history. It fit our air mattress great and still had room for our bags. Not room for much else but what else do you need?

Edit : My bad, not Amazon - Walmart!

Used with this air mattress :

https://www.amazon.com/Intex-68765E-Classic-Airbed-Pillows/dp/B000HBIL9O

This was the singularly most comfortable camping trip of my entire life.

u/jaymerryfield · 2 pointsr/camping

Let's clarify the air mattress comment. If it's the kind you'll pump up in your spare room, basically an empty bladder full of nothing but air, it'll suck all of the heat out of your budy as you sleep. Your bodyweight crushes the sleeping bag insulation under your body while you sleep, and that is your primary avenue for heat to escape your body.

Now if we're talking self-inflating air mattresses (filled with foam, which does the inflating), or an air mattress with some kind of insulating value to it, they're fine. Better than fine, actually, they're comfortable and warm and good for cooler temperatures. But you want an air mattress that will insulate more than you want one that is cushy and comfortable.

My wife and I recently got a bum h of new gear for a trip we have coming up in April. In deciding what to get I did a lot of research price comparison and review reading. My eye was towards price for performance. When I looked at items I looked at online reviews the questions section on amazon(this is a great tool) and even looked up some of the manufacturers. Here is what I came up with and perhaps can help you with gear selection.

Tent I chose NTK Colorado I looked at tents from Coleman, Kelty and a few others and kept coming back to this one. It fit my budget and all the reviews for all their tents were very high. I looked up the company and it said they have been making tents for 40 years in Brazil. I will be test setting mine up today but it looks like a really solid tent for the money.

Air Mattress sound asleep this one I do have experience with as my kid has one and sleeps on it all the time. She has abused the heck out of it and it is still going strong. It was a no brainier for me on this one.

Cooler frosty cooler I wanted a yeti but 600 bucks is crazy for a cooler but still needed something better then a plastic Coleman. After looking at all the yeti clones this one seemed to stand out from the rest.

For sleeping bags what ever fits your budget I wouldn't spend a lot since your car camping you can bring blankets with you for both comfort and warmth.

Camp stove Coleman classic I have had mine for years and the damn thing keeps on going. No need to get fancy the classic Coleman does it well.

My trip is coming up the second week of April we will be going to Zion for four nights then the Grand Canyon for 4 nights then across to Texas where we will be camping just outside of Austin for the Moto GP race. For the tent and the cooler that I have not tested yet I will let you know how they preform.

u/alwsthk · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

We bought a soft top for our roof and a car adapter as well. We kept most of clothes and blankets in vacuum sealed bags so we could save room on the trip. Car adapter worked great for the mini electric air pumps, they also sucked out all the air from the vacuum seal bags. This looks for interesting and seems like it would be an ok idea.

Pack snacks. Hit up the grocery store for cheap meals. Make your own sandwiches. Grab a whole rotisserie chicken, some fruit, fresh veg and dip. Healthy meal on the go. And usually left overs for sandwiches the next day.

Also look into hostels or B & B's the off season it tends to be a lot cheaper. See if you can do a drop in swim or something at a recreational centre. Then you get access to showers as well. The drop in rate at the centres for near me for swim are $3.

Edit: first aid kit!

u/Suspendedskinnykid · 3 pointsr/camping

Hmm, I'd almost suggest getting a hammock. it'll be much better on your back if you're planning on using it for a few months. There's some pretty damn comfy ones you can get, easy as shit to hang, or you can find a cheap used hammock stand on craigslist if you dont want to put holes in your wall. If you are still set on the mattress, get this. Holds air like a champ, and is super light weight in case you do decide to use it for camping :)

u/GingerAle55555 · 2 pointsr/internetparents

This air mattress is $120 and is excellent. It has a built in pump so you can just turn the knob to add more air when needed. It's also pretty much the height of a regular bed so it doesn't feel like your sleeping on the floor. I highly recommend getting a mattress pad like this one and it will really make it feel like a real bed.... we have this set up (along with some IKEA sheets and comforter) and guests who use it always rave that they can barely tell it's not a normal bed. By the time you add it all up (mattress $119, pad $20, sheets, pillows, comforter) you'll be under your $250 but probably close unless you can just use stuff you already have!

If you absolutely have to go the futon route, check Craigslist and IKEA, but to be honest they're pretty pricey for the decent ones and the cheap ones aren't very comfortable.

u/Nenotriple · 2 pointsr/woodworking

I'll expand on that. I bought a cheap mattress inflator from a Goodwill for $1. It's super effective at blowing dust out if little cracks. I walk around the shop with a brush in one hand, and the blower in the other hand. Its much faster than with the brush alone. https://www.amazon.com/Smart-Air-Beds-Electrical-110-125v/dp/B003LIKRKQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1485376617&sr=8-1&keywords=Bed+inflator

u/Qu1nlan · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

This sofa looks pretty perfect to me. Cheap, easy to move, and comfortable. And convertible to a bed!

u/markesh0 · 3 pointsr/camping

So I know how you feel, im 6'3" 375 and i hate sleeping on the ground all together.

With that said, I hope price isnt too much of an issue.

I started with a double tall air matress from some generic company. Its just to offer the buffer between me and the floor.

The winner is this guy, who makes it feel like your laying on the most comfy home bed ever... When your done, use it a home on top of your mattress, but I bought mine just for camping first.

All totaled its around $200, but you will love sleeping in it for sure.

u/Granny_knows_best · 1 pointr/camping

If you have electric, stick with an air mattress but dont skimp on that. They have nice ones, I slept on one for a year when I first moved here. I also sleep on them when camping. Get a nice thick one and lots of blankets to make it comfy. It really does make a difference.....mine...

Your kids are going to enjoy spending time with you, they will have your whole attention while camping as there wont be all the electronics going on. So plan family activities and make some memories!

u/robertgfthomas · 5 pointsr/Frugal

I didn't... I think the mods did. So I'm going to sneak in and repost.

What are some of the staple gadgets and gizmos you have to maximize portability, versatility, durability, and price, time, and space efficiency?

Here's my list:

-Feiyue shoes. Crazy cheap, they take up no room, and they don't look out-of-place in most situations.

-Light My Fire titanium spork. This is the only eating utensil I ever use, and I take it everywhere.

-Pyrex 4-cup Bowl. As long as I'm just making food for me, this dish is the only one I need. It can withstand pretty much everything, and the microwave-friendly lid is awesome.

-Platypus roll-up water bottles. Carrying around an empty water bottle is really annoying. These guys hold lots of water, and only take up as much space as the volume of water they contain.

-Milk crates and heavy-duty Rubbermaid containers instead of furniture. The only thing you can really do with a chair is use it as a chair, and the only thing you can do with a chest of drawers is use it as a chest of drawers. Might as well combine the two -- and make them really light and portable to boot!

-Lifetime folding table. This is the closest thing I have to furniture.

-Coleman 4-in-1 Quickbed. It's a twin mattress, or two separate twin mattresses, or a king-size bed, it's comfortable as poo, and it folds up to nothing.

-Night Ize Gear Ties. I've used these for everything from coathangers to patching the handle on a neighbor's lawnmower to attaching the basket to my bike.

-MicroNet Microfiber Towel. Linen actually takes up a surprising amount of room. This guy works great, and folds away to nothing.

-Wellspring FlipNote. I've had my FlipNote for 5 years and it's been in my pocket every single day -- whether I was in South Africa, military combat training, business meetings, or going out with friends. It's an idea journal, an address book, a wallet, a writing surface, a pen... all kinds of stuff, and it's super-slim and super-durable.

-Bug-out bag. This isn't quite the one I have -- mine was about $60 and came with a CamelBak and tube inside -- but it's the right idea. When I was discharged from the military, I fit my entire life in this amazing backpack with room left over for the full CamelBak and hiked up and down the California coast for several days with no problems. The same backpack's still the only piece of luggage I use for travel, for class, for everything. It expands from normal backpack size to HUGE.

TL;DR If I can't pack everything I own into my tiny car in one hour, I have too much stuff.

(Edit: This list isn't everything I own, but it's the things that I figure would be useful to anyone.)

u/m4rsandv3nus · 3 pointsr/ElectricForest

Here's an intex one for $38. However! If your friendly neighborhood Kmart or Sears is closing, it's worth a look there. My hometown Kmart is, and I snagged a REALLY nice Coleman cooler for pretty cheap.

u/NapsBeforeWork · 3 pointsr/MGTOW

I'd recommend a firm air mattress that can be easily transportable plus save money on furniture by picking up cheap/free stuff from craigslist, even the ones already assembled from Ikea.

The minimalist living style begets freedom.

NOTE: This post is a follow-up to CO₂ Scrubber Test. If you haven't read that thread yet, please do so before asking questions here.

After my initial success in the first test, I re-arranged my setup so the humidifier fan would only run when the fogger kicked on, instead of pushing constant "fresh air". I hooked up the scrubber, as seen in the first test, inside the tent.

The dips you see in the graph are when the fan/humidifier kicked on and flushed out some of the still air. Clearly, this design cannot keep up with the CO₂ production of the mushrooms. I tried adding second air pump and let it run for an hour, but it made no appreciable difference.

I think I'll need to build some kind of canister with a much more powerful air pump attached. Perhaps something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Electric-Quick-fill-Portable-Inflator-Inflatable/dp/B074KH38RD

In the meantime, I'm also working on ideas to lower the ambient CO₂ level in the room, including building algae scrubbers. This unit will be for small-scale testing, and if effective I can size up to much larger ones. They're also a simple concept: water, fertilizer, algae and sunlight, with forced air exchange to make up for the limited surface area and to keep the algae in suspension. I hope to have some results from this soon, but I need to wait for the algae to grow in.

Stay tuned!

My life would greatly improve with This bathroom set because ours is falling apart and looks like crap, or This table because our current one is a safety hazard to our three children or a weight set to get into shape.

Somethings I think you should add to your list are: one, two, three, because I noticed you like camping as well. We try to camp as often as possible it is just so relaxing getting to get away from everything for a weekend.

u/ljmunoz · 1 pointr/Coachella

I ordered a bunch of stuff for this year. I went a little amazon crazy.

I stubbed my toe on a tent stake last year so I ordered these glow in the dark tent stakes.

I figured this blow up couch would be a cool addition to our campsite.

I got one of these battery powered fans for my tent.

I ordered a few of these batter powered led lights in different colors for decoration.

I ordered like 4 of these portable fans for our camping group to clip onto their camel packs for the daytime heat.

I ordered this portable battery pack to keep my phone charged.

I ordered a 300 pack of glowsticks 100 for each day.

I ordered these light shooter things. They are fun to play with in the camping grounds.

I ordered one of these anti chafe sticks for my fat legs. It's truly a life saver.

Also I ordered The Watterpuff for obvious reasons.

Air mattresses are cold (metal truck bed) compared to foam pads, but backpacking-style foam pads are probably too thin to be comfortable in your truck bed. You might look at an extra thick Thermarest made for car camping. Or for a cheap solution, put a couple of blue moving pads under a cheap air mattress. Can also be used on top as quilts if you find out in the middle of the night your sleeping bags aren't warm enough.

Weather? I don't know. If you try roping a tarp over the bed, if you get any rain at all you will have a waterbed pushing down on top of you after a while. Maybe something like a few feet of 1" dowel rod screwed to a plywood base between your two sleeping bags, to give you a peak to divert the rain off.

Although I still have some insomnia it's not as bad as it was as I have a better handle of the PTSD and have had a quite a bit of counselling. One of the things I found really helpful is getting a pillow with a small speaker inside and listening to podcasts, like the Sleep With Me ones or some children's books on Librivox.

It gave me something to focus on so I wasn't filled with anxiety about having nightmares or flashbacks. I didn't always sleep but just the act of resting was helpful. I also used to use audiobooks in the bath as that was another place I got a lot of flashbacks.

u/Mattias44 · 1 pointr/CampingandHiking

I know you're trying to stay away from inflatables, but the new TPU (PVC free) air mattresses are really nice. They don't stretch and they're very durable. I have this one and really like it I'll never own another air mattress with PVC again.

u/lilacattak · 1 pointr/AskReddit

I actually did this when my now-husband and I first moved into an apartment. We spent $40 on something like this. It was acceptable for the short-term, although the back support on it wasn't great and we needed to re-pump the air back in every night because there was a tiny mystery hole somewhere in the damned thing after a month or so.

Looking back, I'd do it again: it was something to tide us over until we saved up some more cash. Aim for getting something better after a few months.

Algae will probably not be very good.

You would need to drop the weight considerably. Look into the process for licensing experimental cars.

Requirements:

  1. Solar Powered transient

  2. Contains a Mattress

  3. Can travel on Freeway

    3a. Top speed 70MPh

    3b. Brakes safely

    To meet these requirements:

  4. Buy a Recumbent Bicycle

  5. Attach a bike trailer

  6. Pack the bike trailer with travel supplies and an inflatable mattress and a tent.

  7. Electrify the bike

  8. Install solar panels and an outlet above your trailer. You should be able to charge your bike on the go.

You should be able to get up to 55MPH this way, and because you'd be so small, cars could pass you easily.
u/Scoregasm · 1 pointr/Coachella

I'm debating on making space for one of these or a couple of these. The ability to lay down off the ground and outside a tent would be nice.

Not to knock the OPs post because cheap mattress is a cheap mattress. But there's a reason this mattress is so cheap. Top review shows picture of baffles breaking after only a few uses. Plus I've found that the double stacked mattresses like that deflate faster and take up way too much tent space.

I recommend this mattress. Yes, it's twice the price but it will last you many Roo's and is crazy comfortable and you'll only have to pump it once. The pump they give you is kinda weak though. FYI. Mattress is stellar.

Guys, I bought this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B071X7C4TB/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I'm not a big guy (5'11" 157lbs) and my arms kept falling off the sides, so unless you are a side sleeper or level the area around this particular mattress, your arms will sag off the sides.

So I then went and bought this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B018APB3TI/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

And found it to be so much better in terms of my arms being able to rest at my sides...but even more how much more lower back support I was given vs that of the tri-fold. The tri-fold felt like it was actually straining my back due to lack of support so I had to put my https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B014AQ90A0/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 under it, and that only marginally helped.

So I'm ditching the tri-fold.

>I'd look into a pad or memory foam pad. An air mattress will always deflate due to the drop in temperature during the night (going back to the old physics lesson PV=nRT).

Ive used this my past few festivals and its always treated me well. Sometimes needs a reflate in the morning, but never had any issues with deflation during the nigh/nothing severe. It's a little large so might not work great in a regular tent. A cot might be a better option for you, though, both space- & comfort-wise.

thats what ive always used and it works no problem. however, the coleman, and other walmart/dicks/cabelas etc air beds generally only last so long.. even new they tend to deflate over a night or 2 of use. and after about 6 or so trips they get to the point where they barely hold air overnight... so....

I don't know how small of a car you're working with, but I am over 6 feet tall and was able to make do in a Buick Century ('99 custom edition, no big deal). I just had a couple pillows, a fluffy comforter and a blanket which made things soft enough. Then I would sleep at a diagonal usually with my feet going into the front passenger seat, which was fully reclined. Sounds awkward, but I made it work. Honestly, the worst part was temperature control, but even that most nights wasn't too bad. I loved the convenience of just waking up and being ready to go.

Depending on the design of your car, you might be able to remove part of the backseat and sleep halfway into the trunk, but if you have a lot of gear with you that could get cumbersome I'd imagine.

I had seen this before and was intrigued, but I didn't know it existed until I no longer had a need for it. I'm not sure if it is worth the price tag.
