  • art supplies: You should add one of these to go with these. This drawing pad to go with this set. This watercolor set is amazing. And these for some pen and ink.
  • Gardening: I feel like these are a must have in anyones garden and for whatever reason (probably because I'm a 5 year old at heart) this makes me feel like a badass but also keeps me from leaving my shears somewhere and having to carry all my tools at once. I think this is awesome for germinating.
  • Books: I just read this book and I highly recommend it and I also want to read this one which I was told was amazing. If you have a kindle you should add this or this since you like Doctor Who (theyre basically the reason I want to get a kindle).
  • Doctor who: This is awesome. Id love to have these in my kitchen and this in my bedroom. Maybe just this and this for fun.

Hope you like them and if I win I'd like this or for the raffle this because I really really want it

I'm actually ordering a second one for my mom right now.

So let's say you're crazy like me and want to wake up at 5 am every day. You set the alarm for 5 am and go to sleep with plenty of time. This is only for health issues, obviously, but even if you go to bed at like midnight or 1 am it will still wake you up. You'll just be super tired thrgouhout the day.

So you set the alarm for 5. At 4:30, when you're nice and comfy in bed asleep the light on the alarm clock will come on. It's dim and gentle at first, but over the next half hour it will be slowly getting brighter and brighter.

By the time 5 am rolls around you have already been exposed to light for 30 minutes. A gentle alarm comes on and beeps to wake you up, and you're up! It;s pretty easy.

I like to combine this with Sleep Cycle as it gives me the best of both worlds and I like to take a look at my sleeping cycles.

You can buy the basic form of the alarm clock here, it's $50.

Okay based on that I'm going to suggest a few things you could add to your wish list. I promise I won't be offended if you don't like them, but you might find something you're interested in. :)

Tea things:

First for cute tea things, I highly recommend the flowering tea pot I received it as an Arbitrary Day gift and it's awesome. The teas are delicious and most importantly, to me, the tea pot is sooo cute.

Mana Tea infuser a lot of people have this on their wish lists. I should add it to mine too.

Tea Sampler There are several samplers with different types of tea from this company and a bunch of others. You should look around for sure.

Hello Kitty Stuff:

You're welcome! This is the one I have. It's probably the cheapest on Amazon, but it works great. Most days I wake up before the alarm starts going off thanks to the light.https://www.amazon.com/hOmeLabs-Sunrise-Alarm-Clock-Simulation/dp/B074NB5TNW

Also, you sound like a really sweet kid, and it's wonderful you care so much about your parents. I hope your sister grows out of this and appreciates having you around.

I had the most wonderful time in college. In fact, I stayed for 7 years.

I went to 2 universities and 2 community colleges... with a different major at each institution. We can say I was somewhat indecisive. I spent most of my time focusing on my life socially instead of academically. But man, it was the time of my life.

I wasn't too involved in High School, a little here and there, but when I enrolled in my last University, I told myself I had to get involved. So I pledged a professional co-ed fraternity. It changed my life. It was a community with an alike atmosphere to RAoA. We volunteered, raised funds, had secret santas and ugly sweater parties, fostered brotherhood and friendship, and we were really taught to give instead of take.

I used to be uptight and unpleasant. College helped me open up to the people around me and truly live a happy life. Although, now I find myself with an addiction to pizza.

As for a school related item? I choose this because I have ALWAYS had a problem with waking up. This morning it took 4 alarms to rouse me. I firmly believe if I had something like this alarm clock, I wouldn't have missed so many classes in college, or overslept throughout my career afterwards.

Boo to the regular work week when you're a night owl. :P

I hope you have a grand school year! Enjoy your 3rd year because that 4th one is approaching -- you'll wonder where the time went and wonder if it stole your free time on the way haha.

  14. Roomba. Especially if you have wall to wall carpets and a furry pet. I have a long haired cat so I got a used 600 series off of eBay. It has re-added maybe an hour or 90 mins of 'vacuum time' back to my week.

  15. BlueApron meals. Saves time, you eat well, doesn't cost the earth. Yep.

Just ask if you have any questions!

u/fiercebaldguy · 6 pointsr/GetOutOfBed

Okay, so I am pretty sure you are just me writing from the past, because I have had the exact same problem... BUT luckily for you, I have determined a series of solutions!

  • First, go to bed on time. It doesn't seem like it would make that much of a difference, but it really does. (You might want to try the website sleepyti.me for determining the exact time to wake up/fall asleep. I haven't seen astounding differences like some will tout, but I do notice some kind of difference.)

  • Secondly, there are a couple alarm clocks I could recommend:

    1.) The Alarmy app
is one that requires you to get up and take a picture of something in your house/apartment in order to disable the alarm. It is super helpful to me but it does have the tendency to be a bit buggy sometimes (and not got off), so be forewarned...

2.) I have a Clocky alarm as well and it is also pretty effective. It is one of those alarms that rolls off your nightstand and hides. And it certainly does make the most God-awful, absolutely un-ignorable sound in the world, so there's no danger of sleeping through that.

So that's my collection of knowledge at the moment. Hopefully it helps!

Doctor Who alarm clock! Why? BECAUSE DOCTOR WHO IS AWESOME.

I'd love Captain America on DVD! Captain America is my favorite superhero, so his DVD would be awesome to have :)

bunnicula! Thanks for the contest!

u/Fivestar_fox · 2 pointsr/Gifts

If he's working too hard (which it sounds like) maybe gifts that could help energize/relax would be a good idea.
Here's my ideas.
For the bed: Super soft sheets, Some type of super cool pillow/Memory foam/Gel/Bamboo. A wake-up light alarm clock: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0093162QS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
For his body: A massage/ epsom salt muscle soaks/Gel insoles /yoga session
Maybe some couples coupons? Is there a favorite meal of your's that he loves? Cook him that.
A random thing for gun lover's (my Husband has one and loves it) a gun mat: https://www.amazon.com/Glock-AD00062-Bench-Mat/dp/B00UT9RR9E/ref=sr_1_cc_5?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1517519189&sr=1-5-catcorr&keywords=gun+mat

u/debateisagame · 2 pointsr/policydebate

you can definitely use your phone as a timer in most events, although there are other timers available if you want to clout chase (although, i hear that using phones instead of timers is the hot new thing in pf, so be wary). Because the classic 12 button timer that most camps/tournaments gave out has been discontinued, there is really only one option left for good, durable and effective timers:

https://www.amazon.com/CDN-TM30-2-Alarm-Timer-Alarm-Vibrates/dp/B004S0SO9M/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1538057146&sr=8-3&keywords=debate+timer

as for stands, get one. once again, clout chasing, but also they are pretty useful. obviously an investment, but it was definitely worth it (i've had mine for just short of 5 years, still works)

https://www.amazon.com/Tabletote-Portable-Lightweight-Adjustable-Notebook/dp/B005IXSXPI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1538057268&sr=8-1&keywords=debate+stand

u/tunafresh · 2 pointsr/IWantToLearn

I have this model as well. They came out with a newer version though [here] (https://www.amazon.com/hOmeLabs-Sunrise-Alarm-Clock-Simulation/dp/B074NB5TNW/ref=pd_sim_201_3?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B074NB5TNW&pd_rd_r=W8WZ2R9CQS2CT3ZE7XW3&pd_rd_w=LYwMW&pd_rd_wg=AKEYB&psc=1&refRID=W8WZ2R9CQS2CT3ZE7XW3)
The newer one isn't too different, but the stand is better and I think the lighting is a little better. I ordered it for a friend.

There's a bunch of vendors on Amazon selling these things so I would just try to find the cheapest.

I'm a pretty sensitive sleeper so the amount of light that comes off of these clocks is plenty for me. So if you're a heavy sleeper this may or may not work for you.

u/Guepardita · 1 pointr/GiftIdeas

Since he's going to be in the hospital a lot, I think the Wake-Up Light would be a great gift to maybe help him feel a bit more energized.

Another cool gift would be a few Lego Architecture sets, which he could work on while in the hospital.

u/Penguidos · 2 pointsr/ynab

That's what I meant, yes. The idea behind a commitment device is that you are actually two selves, the planner and the doer. The planner may have high hopes, but the doer's the one who has to execute the plan. The problem is that the planner has no good way to enforce the plans, s/he just hopes that the doer will execute because there is a plan. (Seinfeld actually had a great description of this!)

Enter the commitment device. It's the way that the planner ensures his plan is followed through on. The commitment device removes options from the doer so that the doer is much more likely to execute the plan. If you put the groceries budget on a prepaid card that can't be spent anywhere else, you ensure that it can't be flexed out. That is, the planner knows that the doer will be tempted to flex the grocery budget to use for lunches. So the planner sets up a situation where the doer can't flex it. One fun example is Clocky, the clock that runs away from you when it goes off. The planner sets the alarm, and when it goes off, the doer has 3 choices: let the alarm ring, get up, or hit the snooze button. Knowing that the doer will be tempted to hit the snooze button, the planner removes the snooze option by purchasing Clocky. Now the doer must choose between getting up or letting the alarm clock ring while driving around the bedroom. (In the past, I solved this a slightly different way. I had a thing of caffeinated water next to my bed, and I'd drink that, then hit the snooze button. I normally didn't get to hear the second alarm because either the caffeine woke me up or nature calling would.)

u/myonlineidentity9090 · 1 pointr/NoStupidQuestions

Don't know if this is something that might interest you, but there is this super awesome alarm clock I want to tell you about!

I have been using this amazing wake up light, 20 minutes until your alarm is set to go off, it begins lighting up from a deep red to an orange to a white or even to a bright yellow if that's what you want! It is been super awesome for my wife and I, especially in the winter time when it does not get light until like 7:00 or 8:00

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0093162QS

u/sennotar · 12 pointsr/blogsnark

Product Reviews, Winter Edition:

  • Phillips Wake-Up Light. Actual game-changer. I am a morning person, but when the dark-until-7:30am mornings drag on, I struggle. This has really changed how my wakeups feel.

  • Uniqlo Jeans. Stretchy, supportive fabric. Normal human person washes. 33 inch inseam! $60 in Canada, which is about as much as I feel like spending on jeans that my beleaguered thighs will just burn through in a few months.

  • Figuring out my skin routine which, for me, looks like this: CeraVe cleanser, Paula's Choice AHA/BHA exfoliant, The Ordinary HA+B5, Paula's Choice Ultralight SPF Hydrating fluid. My giant pores are less obvious and my skin looks radiant and healthy. I also drink a shit-ton of water which probably helps?
u/jporegon · 1 pointr/ADHD

If you wake up before the sun is up consider buying a wake up light like this (it helps fool your brain into waking up naturally)
http://www.amazon.com/Philips-HF3500-60-Wake-Up-Light/dp/B00F0W1RIW
Go to bed at about the same time every night if you can- consider taking melatonin (especially if you are taking meds for ADHD). You can buy it at just about any grocery store. I have five kids, two with ADHD like me and the melatonin "knocks them out" safely in about 30 minutes. A good night's rest can be the key to waking up on time.
If you don't sleep well because your mind is racing about what you have to do the next day then write yourself a brief to-do list to remind you. Then tell your brain not to worry and get some rest. Consider meditation before bed as well to help you fall asleep.

Last, if worst comes to worst, find work that fits you - not the other way around. Some jobs can be very flexible about when you show up. Also, consider talking to your boss about your condition, see if you can offer something to compensate:
Boss, I have to accept that I am who I am and I'm probably going to be a little late sometimes. But, once I am here I will give 110% and stay late every day to balance out the time - if it is ok.

best of luck!

u/Sparkles_And_Spice · 2 pointsr/PolishGauntlet

I really like southwestern style like this. I think these are pretty cute too. Nice and simple looking.

Worst house we've lived in is this one. The people that lived here before left tape along every border in the house and then painted on top of the tape, who even does that? They also messed up tiling the kitchen and the bathroom floors. They didn't patch most of the holes in the walls and what they did patch, they never smoothed down.

My favourite cephalopod

So delicious!

This is kind of cool.

Thanks for the chance! Really red, escapades, pound cake, click it or ticket, jewel, who's she red, after sex, fifth avenue, jam n' jelly, cocktail hour, watermelon, china doll

Edit: Sorry, guess someone already took the cherry limeade(best drink ever) so I'll leave this one instead lol.

u/Kate925 · 4 pointsr/college

Yeah, the Sonic bomb alarm is a really good one, if you want a similar alarm that looks more discreet like a normal alarm clock, this is the version that I purchased for myself. I'm a super heavy sleeper though, and I've found that I can even sleep through that, so as a last resort, I would definitely recommend a Pavlok but again only as a last resort, it's kind of expensive and literally shocks you awake, but I find that it's really effective and quiet. I'm going to sound like a total shill here for a second, but their customer service is top notch as well, when mine started having issues, I reached out to their customer service to see if there was anything that I could do to fix it, and after walking me through a few unsuccessful attempts, they sent me a brand new one. I was really impressed.

u/orchd84 · 4 pointsr/Parenting

We LOVE the [OK to Wake stuffed owl.] (http://www.amazon.com/Wake-With-Night-Light-Music-Timer/dp/B0044D0HA2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1381716013&sr=8-1&keywords=owl+clock+wake) It is $25 and let's you set a wakeup time. At that time it glows green and plays a soft music. If your little one wakes early they can squeeze the belly and it tells them if it is time to wake up, and if not it tells them to go back to sleep and you can set it to play a certain amount of time of lullaby music.

My 4 year old loves it.

u/ReverendDizzle · 1 pointr/Parenting

There are a ton of them on Amazon, the most popular of which is the "OK to Wake!". It's $29, but for $10 more you can get an upgraded clock by the same company, the Teach Me Time which does all the stuff the OK to Wake! does but also has a real clock on it and will help your kid learn to read the time.

That said, I'm with /u/hadesarrow, a simple timer on a light or even one of those sunlight simulator alarm clocks would be a better investment. After all the cutesy kid alarm clock will be too babyish for them soon, but a real alarm clock with a sunrise simulator light (or plug for a lamp) will be useful forever.

u/SereneWisdom · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I'd love to win this cute clock.

Thank you for the contest. :)

u/lil_anon · 2 pointsr/Narcolepsy

I wasn’t sure if this would work for me so I bought a cheaper one first off of Amazon

Philips Wake-Up Light Alarm Clock with Sunrise Simulation, White (HF3500/60) https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B00F0W1RIW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_8F7PDbP3DEY00

I got it when it was about Au$65 and yes it definitively helps but isn’t perfect. I am planning on upgrading to a more expensive one but am glad I got a cheaper one first so that I don’t feel guilty dropping a couple hundred on a better one, my husband is planning on putting the cheaper one on his side of the bed when we get a better/brighter one.

u/LikeADrearyImmortal · 1 pointr/Narcolepsy

I use this Phillips Wake-Up Light to help me get up and it's been great. The light starts gradually turning on half an hour before the alarm goes off at which point it is on full brightness. It is supposed to simulate waking up with the sun, and I think my mind does register it and begin waking up even if I'm not consciously aware of it. However, I have to remind myself to sleep facing the light for the last few hours before waking up (I'm often partially conscious throughout the night so I am able to remind myself, it's disruptive but helpful in this situation). Here's the link to the one I have, although there are other more sophisticated ones.

This one specifically, the HF3500. But in hindsight I wish I'd gotten the one with the battery. And the ability to set multiple schedules.

Probably your phone can do it too with the right app, but this one is super bright.

u/lawrencezhou10 · 2 pointsr/Debate

It's not as good as the original Radioshack timer (rip in peace) but it's pretty close: CDN TM30 Direct Entry 2-Alarm Timer-Alarm Sounds or Vibrates - 1 count https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004S0SO9M/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_71M3CbQNT03T5

I've used this for years and it's great. Has a silenced and non silenced timer, counts up and down, has a stand so you can set down the timer, and let's you put in the specific time you have remaining (useful for prep time).

i set 2 alarms. my phone goes off and i always hit snooze. like you i sometimes do it in my sleep. 9 minutes later it goes off again. if i hit snooze again, then a minute later, my alarm clock goes off. its really loud and i have to get up to turn it off. it really helps to have to get up to turn off the alarm because you definitely have to wake up. you could put the alarm clock all the way across the room and just crank up the volume.

you could even get something like this - an alarm clock on wheels. you'd have to chase it across the house. :) http://www.amazon.com/Clocky-Alarm-Clock-Wheels-Kitchen/dp/B000TAS9XQ

also, some people actually sleep in their workout clothes to help them get moving.

good luck, getting up so early is really hard.

Here's what I use. I just got it last week but so far I really like it! It has a sunrise/alarm setting, and different brightness levels for the clock so you can make it just barely visible at night.

What I'm still struggling a bit with is creating a dark environment before bed! But I'm getting better at that.

u/sweetooth0 · 1 pointr/saskatoon

I use one of those alarm clocks that slowly lights up in the morning so it mimics a sunrise. That helps quite a bit. The one I got was a bit on the pricey side I felt, but I do feel like it was worth it:

Also, like everyone else says, take your vitamin D

u/AndiSLiu · 1 pointr/newzealand

This one - 'homelabs' - is alright. You can set how long before the audio alarm that the light starts brightening. There's only one colour for the gradual brightening though (but it's quite alright). I have the sound on mine set to the FM radio, to RNZ Concert, which is great (RNZ Concert only has wacky stuff around midnight).

Whoohooo!

This clock would be amazing because sometimes my phone wants to be weird and not have my alarm go off, so this would help as a back up!! AND it's colorful. Otherwise I have a bunch of MP3s on my WL! :)

My son was about 2 and a half when he developed the very fun habit of just getting out of bed whenever he liked. We tried a bunch of things, but nothing really worked. Eventually we bought a stuffed owl that tells kids when they're allowed to get up out of pure desperation. Worked like magic, and still works great now at almost 4. Your mileage may vary, but it's probably worth a shot: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0044D0HA2/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1413774838&sr=8-1

When it came out, it was like $60. I guess it's "rare" now, so scalpers are scalpers... But it is an awesome (if somewhat limited) animated clock.

I've destroyed (unintentionally) more than 10 alarm clocks throughout HS to college.

A coworker gave me a clock with wheels on it, it was a gag gift but it worked:

It does one thing well, it makes sure you stay awake!

I would personally recommend just going to bed early. Making a set bed time will help your body establish a sleep schedule.

Also, my favorite holiday is Halloween ;D

u/wt534tfeg34f3 · 1 pointr/AskReddit

I have this. Wakes me up nice and gently with the brilliance of the sun about 2 feet from my face.

u/LanceLowercut · 2 pointsr/AskMen

I got this one before winter because I have the hardest time getting up in the dark as well. Its fairly basic it has brightness, 24 hour clock only I believe, alarm time, and one alarm sound. There are some higher end models with more features but this does the job. Only issue I've found is not being able to set alarms for individual days. So if you dont work on weekends or have different times you get up you'll have to manually change and/or shut it off.

Edit: But overall I would definitely recommend it or another model because it does make getting up more enjoyable and less startling.

The good- works great as a nightlite. Turns green when its ok to get up. Kids can push a button to hear what time it is. Controls to change time / alarms are behind a difficult to open door that my 5 year old hasnt figured out yet.

Not so good. Battery back up does not seem to work. I my two year old unplugs it and then I have to reprogram the time. Getting pretty fast at it though.

u/KestrelLowing · 2 pointsr/femalefashionadvice

I had really good experiences with a sunrise alarm clock. This specifically is the one I have, but I feel like it was a lot cheaper when I bought it, maybe only $60 at that point. Maybe I got it on sale.

Unfortunately, that alarm clock also wakes up my husband who doesn't need to get up for another hour, so I cannot use it now except on a really low setting. But when I lived alone, it was fantastic and I lived in Houghton, MI which is pretty damn far north (at least for North America) so the days were very short.

Also, I got a lot of daylight bulbs and used them in everything save the lamp I used at night. This also helped me stay more active.

u/SwampRabbit · 9 pointsr/Parenting

We gave my son one when he was about 2.5 years old. We used this one, and it worked very well for him. If we heard him get out of bed early in the morning, we could just yell (from our bed) "Is it green time?" and he would jump back in the bed. He also enjoyed the night light and silly-face features. Around 4 years old we introduced the wake-up alarm as part of teaching him to get himself ready. He figured out the snooze button all by himself. :)

He's 5.5 now, and we recently switched him to this wake-up clock that shows the digital time and an analog clock face together to help him learn to tell time.

Neither are cheap, but they work well and will last a long time. We passed the first one along to a nephew and expect it will be passed around to a few more kids before it's done.

u/michiall06 · 2 pointsr/blogsnark

I swear by this alarm clock. It has made me actually get up right away, which I thought was impossible. The key for me was to set it far away, so I have to walk to it to turn it off. It gets so bright (you can adjust the settings on this) that distance does not matter. It also helps me wake up more gradually, so the sound of the alarm isn't so jarring. Another morning thing that has helped me is giving myself something to look forward to while I get ready -- like listening to my current audiobook. It is also nice to start the morning not feeling rushed or guilty about sleeping in. Remembering the positive feels it gives me has made a big difference!

u/jet_heller · 3 pointsr/Parenting

We got our kid one of these: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003D7KV0Q/ref=wms_ohs_product?ie=UTF8&psc=1

He didn't wake up in the middle of the night, but he did wake up early. Got him that. Taught him that he can't get up till the light turns green. He learned pretty quickly and just stayed quietly in bed and played till the time came.

u/jysalia · 5 pointsr/Parenting

Since our apartment was so small, we kept our daughter's toddler bed in the same room with us, and we just had to remind her that she needed to stay in bed. Also, we found a color changing alarm clock that was a huge help. It gave our daughter something concrete to focus on - "When the clock is yellow, it is time to sleep; when it turns green, then you can wake up and get Mommy and Daddy." When she forgot early on, we had something specific we could point to to establish the rules; she now sleeps in her own room and stays quiet until the clock turns green (except for nights with bad dreams or illness, of course).

Also, you know your kid. Authors of various articles are writing based on their experiences with their kids, who are different from your kid. Always take their (and my) advice with a grain of salt. You can always try something, and if it doesn't work, change. There is no one way to parent. Children are people, too, with their own personalities and quirks that you will need to work. Establish the goals that are most important to you, and work with your child to figure out how to accomplish it. Changing your mind, or even compromising with your child, does not mean you failed as a parent.

Good luck to you.

u/Chexjc · 2 pointsr/battlestations

u/jbBU · 5 pointsr/medicalschool

If you're not already, try and keep good sleep hygiene.
I also use one of these illuminating alarm clocks and it has helped me improve wakefulness.
The last thing I'll say is that I wouldn't assume working EM doesn't necessitate switching sleep cycles (except in residency which is probably the case with most residencies). If you're willing to go out of major metros, you can probably get good terms on your contract and work how you want to work.

u/starsspanthesky · 1 pointr/Advice

Maybe this guy can help. Also make sure your diet is well and you're drinking enough water. Are you getting enough sleep? Too much sleep? You could also see a sleep specialist to check for things like apnea which will decrease the hours of sleep you get per night, making it difficult to wake up.

This product worked for our son. I call it a "reverse" alarm clock, but the product description calls it an "Ok to Wake." We used it in conjunction with a reward system, but it didn't take long. One caveat is that I don't remember what age we used it at, but I suspect it was in the 18-month to 2-year range.

Sonya, Your Momma wouldn't tell you this but... question everything. If you don't understand, then ask. Don't ever be afraid of looking silly, because the people that really matter won't think so. Questions lead to knowledge and knowledge helps you grow.

I could never get up early very well until about three years ago, when my dad had to retire for health reasons and gave me this alarm clock he used.

It's one of those ones that glows brighter and brighter leading up to the alarm going off. In the last three years, the alarm itself has woken me up maaaybe five times. The light is always what woke me up, which is a nice gentle way of getting up.

I know it sounds like essential-oils voodoo bullshit, but I swear this clock rewired my brain into a morning person. I essentially only use the clock as a backup now, I set it for 6:30 a.m. but my brain is up about 6 a.m. anyway.

I had to go through insomnia therapy before my psychologist was willing to start on a diagnosis of ADHD, since sleep deprivation has similar symptoms. I don't have any experience dealing with Adderall, but I can share some more of the advice I was given.

  • Don't stay in bed for over 8 hours. (You're already not doing that, but for a complete list.)
  • Don't sleep in more than 1 hour extra on your off days. (Suffer, mortal! I still do this. It sucks. It helps so much. And it sucks so much.)
  • Use a wake up light if you have trouble waking up (like this).

My SO does use Adderall (not XR, but still), from her list:

  • Continue with the weed, it helps.
  • Consider taking melatonin an hour before bedtime.
u/DishsoapOnASponge · 22 pointsr/GradSchool

I've forced myself to become a morning person during my last semester (the first of my PhD) for the same reasons you mentioned. I made small changes that didn't make it easy, but made it tolerable.

For one, I got a light alarm clock. This one goes on sale regularly, wait and you can get it for $40. It starts filling the room with light for 30 minutes before the back-up sound alarm goes off (which you cannot adjust on this model, but it starts quietly and gets louder). Light usually does not wake me up or keep me awake, but this thing makes your room brighter than the goddamn sun. I find that I wake up easier, probably because something something circadian rhythms sunrise something something.

Once I drag my ass out of bed, I also turn on a light therapy lamp on my desk while I eat breakfast and browse Reddit. This also makes it easier to move around in the morning, and helps with seasonal depression as well.

I'll be honest here, some of these things might be the placebo effect (which of course is still an effect, so I don't really care). My advice is to try various forms of light therapy, but to get things with a money-back guarantee and give it a few weeks to see how things are going. :)

A few weeks into doing this stuff and waking up early, I even started going to the gym in the morning (even though I hate gyms, and mornings) and I've found that it a) wakes me up, and b) makes me feel like one of those obnoxiously productive people who go to the gym in the mornings.

Edit: Still have to figure out how to drag my butt out of bed on a good time on weekends though. It seems like I either wake up at 5am or 11am. Still working on this :)

u/Meat_Confetti · 3 pointsr/Parenting

He's got to cry it out. It's the endgame for all sleep issues with little kids, it's simply a matter of how much guilt and torture the parents want to heap on themselves before they reach that point.

My son and daughter were both like your son, they started out as a awesome sleepers and it all fell apart at about this age. This is rough time for kids, but it's temporary.

EDIT: We introduced this when my son was about 18 months old and it really helped him stay quiet in the early morning hours. The owl tells them "go back to sleep" or turns green and says "It's okay to wake!" after a time that you set.

Edit: It's down to 53 bucks on amazon

Not the parent, but I have this one and it's extremely helpful for getting me out of bed so damn early.

Just search "sunlight alarm clock" for more.

Also... when I'm getting up before my fiancee, she just wears an eye mask to bed.

Set your alarm/phone to full volume and set it all across your room on the other side (or at least a good distance away) so you can still hear it but you have to get up to turn it off.

If that doesn't work, you could go for one of these things: https://www.amazon.com/Clocky-Alarm-Clock-Wheels-Aqua/dp/B000TAS9XQ

Here's an alternative idea: a "training clock" typically used for kids. You set a timer on it that changes the color of the clock when it is okay to wake.

Here is one example.

You could set it so that it is yellow from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM and then green from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM. That way your mom would just have to look at the color.

If you're gonna use music, for the love of god, make it a large playlist. Easiest way to start hating a song is to make it your alarm.

I switched to using a Wake Up Light. Because of my schedule I usually get 5-6 hours of sleep a night. Couple that with an abrupt wake up from an alarm I felt tired until I got my morning caffeine fix.

With the light it feel like I'm waking up late morning after sleeping in on a Saturday....but everyday!

Yeah, thats what I thought too. It is expensive. Till I see the price I'm like.. Well, this is something I want.

Edit: Here is a $50 one. Not sure there is any difference though.

Mirari Teach Me Time! Talking Alarm Clock & Night-Light

We did some midday practice runs and when the light turned on he jumped in our bed. Read the directions and practice making it work before you present it to the child. We just use the yellow light as the okay to wake. Oh we also opened it up and disabled the night light lights, because we didn't want to be confuse for the airport. Check the pictures, people posted pictures with easy directions on how.

Apparently it plays the theme song for the alarm as well. Think Geek. Amazon.

Finland gets very little sunlight in the winter, so bright therapy lamps are popular here. You could try those.

Here's a quick example of such a lamp: https://www.amazon.com/NatureBright-SunTouch-Light-Therapy-package/dp/B000W8Y7FY

There are also alarm clock models if you want it to turn on as you're waking up, here's an example: https://www.amazon.com/Philips-Wake-up-Simulation-HF3500-60/dp/B00F0W1RIW/

Yeah basically what u/gormand0 linked

I have a bit cheaper version because I’m broke and wasn’t sure if this would work for me. Turns out even this version helped me out a lot.

I got this one through Amazon.

I don't know if this will help, but there are various clocks you can buy that have a visual 'alarm'. For example we have this one:
http://www.amazon.com/American-Innovative-Teach-Talking-Nightlight/dp/B003D7KV0Q/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1301505747&sr=8-1

You set the 'green alarm' time, and at that time the clock turns green. Then you explain to your kid that they don't leave their room until it is green. At least that is the theory. Our daughter is almost 2, and while she recognizes the green, and talks about it a bit, she doesn't wait for it before getting up.

There are also clocks that have a bunny that walks, etc. same concept. Reviews on amazon seem positive, so I think maybe our daughter is a bit young to have this self control.

Other than that, a baby gate, or child lock on the door combined with using a monitor. If our daughter gets up too early, she cries for us, we come get her, tell her it is too early to be up, and to go back to bed. Then we put her back in the bed and go back to sleep (same ritual as at night when she doesn't want to stay in bed at bed time). The first time we had to do this 6+ times in one night, the next night just a couple times.

perhaps this app is what you need.

or one of these guys

u/normous · 1 pointr/ADHD

Yeah... You're not getting around that.

You need a Clocky!

u/redditnerdi · 1 pointr/AdviceAnimals

This is precisely why I got a [ clocky ] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000TAS9XQ/) for Christmas from a coworker.

u/Varasque · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Here it is! :'D I found it on the .com site and everything~

u/CrazyCrackers14 · 3 pointsr/Tetris

I'm going to need to know where to buy this.

Edit: Found it

u/sunlighttt · 3 pointsr/medicalschool

It's $39.99 only after you clip the $10 coupon - link

u/Blastercorps · 52 pointsr/explainlikeimfive

One of these. Slowly amps up the light until you realize you're awake. As opposed to "EH EH EH EH EH" and cursing the world. There are cheaper ones from other companies, different models that do bird sounds too, etc.

u/beetlesque · 1 pointr/blogsnark

I have a entry-level one. It's a Phillips. I think it cost around $50. This is the Amazon listing for it

We have one of these suckers: https://www.amazon.com/Philips-HF3500-60-Wake-Up-Light/dp/B00F0W1RIW/ref=pd_sbs_hpc_4?ascsubtag=49b3606fa05361a57d24b138aa949f3cde65ca00&rawdata=%5Bt%7Clink%5Bp%7C1535668863%5Ba%7CB00F0W1RIW%5Bau%7C1136306622

The whole gradually getting brighter until its a seething ball of light-fuelled hate glaring balefully through your eyelids to the back of your skull, is genuinely a brilliant thing for getting you out of bed before the screeching of a thousand vengeful harpies screams like a medical klaxon if you are still hiding in bed after 30 minutes.
(And we just use a small plug adapter as the transformer supports 100-240v)
