Your certification is perfectly valid and welcome on dive boats provided the dive site falls inside your certification (ie, not too deep or technical, etc).

Some things to think about:

  • Seasickness - Even if you don't normally get motion sick you might get seasick, it happens. Get some bonine before you go. Take it easy on breakfast and stay hydrated! If you are feeling seasick there are a few things you can do, get to a place with airflow, watch the horizon, of if possible lie down flat (preferably close to the boat centerline). You will usually feel better once you start your dive, so usually its worth it to do the second/third dive of the day. If you are using a wetsuit, it can make the feeling worse when wearing it fully zipped up on the boat, so try and minimize the time you have it fully zipped up if you are feeling seasick.
  • Gear storage - unlike a shore dive, storage space is limited. I'd highly recommend a mesh bag something like this for example. It lets you transport all of your scuba related gear in something that takes a minimum of space. I'd also recommend a dry bag for things like your wallet, keys, cellphone (if not left in the car), dry clothes etc. There is dry space on the boat obviously but its at a premium usually (depends on boat size/configuration).
  • Getting ready to dive/exiting the boat - Unlike on your shore dive where you likely gradually entered the water, you will go from boat to water very quickly. The boat crew should make an announcement to start gearing up, that is your signal to get into your wetsuit and be ready to go. A couple of key things, MAKE SURE YOUR AIR IS TURNED ON, make sure you removed the bungee cord or similar type of restraint from your tank/1st stage prior to getting into it so you can actually stand up when you are ready. You will exit the boat either via rolling off or via a giant stride (just depends on the boat/crew/etc). Don't be anyone in this video. Regardless of how you enter before you leave the boat.. mask on, reg in mouth, air into your BCD (nothing crazy, but not an empty BCD either), put a hand to your mask to help keep it in place, look in the water BEFORE you start the exit to make sure no other divers are there (tank to the head would SUCK). Give the boat crew the okay dive sign. Follow the DM's instruction on how they want you to descent/group on the surface/etc.
  • Getting back on the boat - It all depends on how the boat is setup. There are little elevator setups, multiple different types of ladders, swim up platforms etc. What the crew wants you to do ahead of time should be explained very clearly. Personally if it is a fins off ladder, I ask if I can keep them on my wrists instead (through the fin straps) of handing them up, having had to do a swim with no fins it is no fun. Regardless of the platform, be very cautious of its rise/fall with the ocean. Once you are safely onboard, get out of the way of people just leaving, swap your gear over to the next tank as soon as you can. Keep drinking fluids to stay hydrated.
  • dive briefings - hopefully the crew does this at a point when you aren't gearing up etc. But pay attention! This isn't the time to be screwing with your gear, trying to put something on, etc. Your only job at that moment is paying attention
  • tank dust covers - Don't put them back on after you dive, they are normally used to distinguish full vs empty tanks.
  • questions - If you have any questions what so ever ask them! Questions on dry land are better than questions on the boat, questions on the boat are better then questions in the water at the surface, and questions at the surface are better than questions underwater.

I experience a similar effect when I play Minecraft. I'm only good for about an hour before it starts to set in. If I continue to play it only gets worse.

I never have figured out any game settings to alleviate this issue. I have. however, found some remedies that help me to get my minecraft fix!

Medications like Dimenhydrinate (the brand name id Dramamine, but if you look/ask for the drug name I just listed, you can get it at half the cost from your local pharmacy) are a big help for me.

Another thing that I've found to work well for me personally are Sea Bands. These little guys are awesome. They apply pressure to a pressure point on your wrists. I don't pretend to understand why they work, but they do. It is different for each person though so they may be more or less effective for your mom. Some advice I would offer you though is if she does try them, put them on like 15-20 minutes before she plays. For me, it seemed to help more when I wore them in advance.

One last piece of advice I can offer is in regards to screen/monitor size and full-screen mode. One of the things that helps me with Minecraft when I'm not using one of the other remedies is to alter the screen mode. I have a 24" monitor that I play on so when I'm planning on playing Minecraft, I put the game in windowed mode and resize the window to about 1/2 the screen size. Having a smaller screen seems to help with how quickly the nausea sets on for me.

Minecraft is the only game in my collection that makes me sick and it drives me nuts because it's one of my favorites. I hope that my tips can help you play with your mom! I would like to add though that I'm certainly not a doctor, so take my tips with that in mind. And your mom should probably read the warnings/consult her doctor before she takes the pills.

I don't know for certain but I'm currently building a folder. A folder of posts, screenshots, archive links, videos, chat logs anything and everything I can get my hands on that shows the side these kids aren't getting in health class or on the internet. Post op complications, suicide rates, side effects, surgical gore, regret, sexual dysfunction this folder has fucking everything and it's literally stomach churning. Why am I doing this? Because at the end of the last school year (so like May / June) my 9 year old came home and said nonchalantly "Did you know you could change your gender with an operation? Yeah! I learned about it in health class (\^_\^)". That's how it's being discussed with children in my region. As though you can go in, talk to a doctor, schedule an operation and boom! you're now a boy or girl for realsies!

Right now my oldest is still in the age where he thinks adults and the authorities are infallible. I have subfolders with some major fuckups committed by the medical establishment that we can look back on now and say what were they thinking?! but at the time was considered established fact or best practice. Think Thalidomide for pregnant women. Or how the medical community just accepted the word of Purdue sales reps that their Opiate derivatives were not at all addictive. Or how just a few years ago vaping was going to be the safe and harmless way to ween oneself off of nicotine. Did you know the guy who invented the lobotomy was co-winner of the 1949 Nobel prize for medicine? I didn't! But I do now because I need to be able to show examples to my kids how the medical community and/or the 'authorities' are capable of fucking up horribly and being unable to admit it.

I'm not looking forward to forcing my 10, 11 or 12 year old kid into reading first hand accounts posted on the internet about how pubic hair is growing inside the 'vaginal canal' of some unfortunate mtf or how about how - oh I dunno - some thing just rotted off down there but I will if I have to. I may have to take some Gravol before we get into the image files I have labelled <penile_inversion.jpg> 1 thru 12 but so be it. Lots of posts about a doctor named Brassard who is apparently known as 'The Butcher of Montreal' and another one named Dr. Bowers. Gut wrenching first hand accounts of the worst post-op complications and care imaginable. Either way, if it ever comes to this, at least my kids will know that one cannot simply change their gender let alone through a simple operation where everyone goes home happy. Mark my fucking words.

u/slevittmd · 2 pointsr/flying

Meclizine is the generic name for non-drowsy Dramamine, and it works pretty well. Best to take it the night before, and then another tablet about an hour prior to takeoff.

My wife has had very good luck with the relief band (Reliefband for Motion and Morning Sickness BUNDLE - INCLUDES - 2 Blucoil CR2025 Batteries https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01KKVZD6Y/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_zOwJBb9FF0CAK). She used to get sick on every flight, but this has pretty much completely taken care of it.

I use the regular sea bands and think they also help.

Finally, normal tips of flying higher and flying earlier in the day are always good. And of course, the more frequently they fly, the better it will get.

This has been a lifesaver for me, my anxiety and panic cause nausea almost daily.

A “serving size” of the gum is two pieces, but I find half a piece is enough to calm my insides while giving me the chewing motion to focus on, almost like meditation.

Good luck, I hope you are able to break the cycle soon!

u/[deleted] · 2 pointsr/Gastroparesis

I didn't have motion sickness until I got gp. It's hard to find Ginger ale in airports but they'll have it on the plane. I use Ginger Rescue mango chewable tabs, they taste good and it settles nausea pretty quickly. I usually take one of those then take a phenergan, and that lasts for a few hours, long enough to get to your layover/destination.

Ginger Rescue - Chewable Ginger Tablets by The Ginger People for Motion Sickness & Nausea, Mighty Mango, 24 tabs https://www.amazon.com/dp/B014KUOLXW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_2rqxDbC237M8F

u/batfacecatface · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I got really sick in Colorado unfortunately, because of the altitude and this helped me so much. I tried to find a non-drowsy version for you but something similar will help keep the nausea at bay! My advice learned from my own vacations is to always, always bring enough books. ;) <3 I hope you have the best time!

u/Beebles00 · -3 pointsr/PSVR

Hi! I actually use a functionally identical product called the Sea Band (here's the amazon link if you're wondering: https://www.amazon.com/Sea-band-Original-Wristband-Adults-Pair/dp/B00DKEPFV2/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1484680758&sr=8-2&keywords=sea%2Bband&th=1)

Basically they work through the little bead on the bottom of the band being pushed against a pressure point in your wrist that is meant to help with nausea (about three fingers down from your wrist, between the two tendons you can see on the bottom of your arm). I've used these for most of my adolescence and adult life for nausea, and they work quite well.

I would recommend putting them on 10-15 minutes before starting VR activity and keeping them on for as long as you feel comfortable. The one you linked looks rather uncomfortable, but material of the wristband is beside the point. If you're looking for a cheap, effective way to combat nausea, this is your golden ticket. Hope it helps!

u/hitonihi · 1 pointr/BabyBumps

I flew to Greece and back from the United States at the very end of the first trimester. The flights honestly weren't too bad, except that on the way back there was some heavy turbulence (which has never bothered me before!) and I nearly used the sick bag. Things that probably helped: I made sure to carry extra snacks, as well as ginger chews (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07D6X94D2/) and Queasy Drops (https://www.amazon.com/Three-Lollies-Queasy-Drops-Variety/dp/B0052N7YQ8), and drink a lot of ginger ale, and I also picked up a set of anti-nausea bands (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01BKAGF5C, which I personally like more than the sweatband style ones).

Unfortunately, my good luck didn't extend to the trip itself! I was pretty miserable for the two weeks we were there.

u/wiseblueberry · 2 pointsr/GirlGamers

Yes I absolutely have this problem with Portal and Portal 2. Katamari somehow too. I've read that ginger tea, or ginger candy helps, but I haven't tried it yet. I've also read that motion sickness medications like dramamine help, but I also have not tried that. Getting up and walking around is supposed to help, but I mostly just want to curl up on my side and not move when I start to get sick.

Edit: I also read somewhere about accupressure wristbands helping, but again, I have not tried this. I'm full of suggestions....just no results as I haven't tested any of it, lol.

u/Onitsons · 2 pointsr/PSVR

Yes ginger is an all natural way to prevent motion sickness. Take it about a half hour before your activity and it should help. Gingerale is also good to sip on as well if you aren't feeling well after.

Anything on the net, is safe to assume to be compromised. Depending on how long it has been out there and how important it is perceived to be.

The FBI has and will continue to do so.

I am not a conspiracy whack job if I can file multiple police reports with measurable assault of my being.

I don’t think everyone is of interest. There are criteria one has to fulfill. Loners, druggies, odd balls, socially awkward or inept persons, charismatic or influential outspoken types, all fall into a ripe category for torment.

It is not conspiracy when there are people coming forward. It is not a conspiracy when there is evidence. It is not a conspiracy when there are attacks in Cuba. It is not a conspiracy when there are schematics can be used to make such implements. It is not a conspiracy when there does not exist legislation for sadist devices that can be bought for as little as $40 by anyone.

> keep an empty trash bag, just poking out of the rear seat pocket.

I prefer these. Easier to grab, sturdier, and everyone recognizes them.

>And spare lightning, micro-usb, and usb-c charging cables for riders.

Highly recommend these. Keep them hidden until someone asks or they will walk.

>Windex, carpet cleaner, bottled water, in the trunk.

If you have cloth seats, this stuff dries pretty quickly (~10 mins) and has almost no lasting smell. Bottled water for you only; don't bother trying to give your passengers water/snacks. And if you have cloth seats, definitely scotchgard them; the shit's amazing. You can wipe water, beer, vomit up with just a paper towel. Scotchgard your carpet too, in addition to your factory all-weather mats.

>Seriously consider getting a dashcam. $60 for a good camera

Disagree that $60 gets you a good camera; i'd recommend spending no less than $100. It needs to operate 24/7 in any temperatures and always be reliable. Same for the microSD card; i've actually had errors and corruption from using crappy ones.
/r/dashcam for suggestions.

>If you don't have this, you run the risk of your policy being dropped if they find out you're driving for profit.

And your claim being denied.

Naturelo are the vitamins I want, I hear good things about them over in r/supplements.

Here's fresh ginger on Amazon. (There are other listings too) You could make a tea from that, just cut it up and boil it for 20-40 minutes. I like that option because you never know how much ginger is actually in ginger products and the steep times for ginger teas are usually so short I don't know how much gets through (it's not water soluable, you're kind of making an emulsion with ginger tea).

Or there's this guy, ginger morning sickness tea. I haven't tried it but it has good reviews.

Not sure why that link is saying constipation? Lol. This is the brand of morning sickness tea I loved. I believe the flavor is ginger peach and I would drink it iced all day long.

u/jaundicemanatee · 3 pointsr/PS4

I've heard of others having that problem, usually with FPS games in general. Some looked into bracelets that supposedly help you deal with nausea, but their effectiveness seems questionable to me.

Reviews for at least one them are mostly positive, though. Maybe it'll help you out.

u/willnotforget2 · 2 pointsr/PSVR

Yes. Very well. Feel a bit wierd, stop and pop a gum. I've used it myself from time to time and always have some on hand showing vr to people. https://www.amazon.com/Ginger-Anti-Nausea-pieces-1-35-each/dp/B000K7B5FC

For those that get motion sickness, has anyone tried those motion sickness bracelets like the ones on Amazon? Do they help?

u/SushiSchwinn · 1 pointr/BabyBumps

Eat small frequent meals. Add ginger to your diet. Drink peppermint tea or suck on peppermint candies (like these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004BH503U/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1). This is going to sound weird, but add some apple cider vinegar to some tea and sip, or just take a shot of it (extra vinegar helps with digestion!). Don't drink a lot of water with meals, it can hinder your stomach fluids in their digesting. Don't gulp water if you can avoid it, drink slowly, take sips. Avoid carbonated drinks and coffee. Don't eat within 2 hours of bedtime. Try to sleep on your left side as much as possible.

I kinda do a mix of all these things, and it helps, but the peppermint candies BY FAR helped the most, especially in the first trimester with morning sickness. If I started to feel nauseous I'd pop one in my mouth, and it'd usually stop it in it's tracks! Works great for reflux too.

u/AJBats · 1 pointr/oculus

My personal preference for artificial locomotion is standing 360 turning with my body, and artificial cardinal directions like forward/backwards and strafing left/right. This combo gets me everything I had before with traditional controls, and usually doesn't make me sick. And when I need to, I'll pop a few stomach drops to bridge any gap in comfort.

u/aut0matix · 1 pointr/xboxone

My wife gets motion sick and these helped her get through RE7. Titanfall might still be a bit much, but they seem to help to some degree.

u/Kasendou · 0 pointsr/xboxone

Have your friend try these. Worked for my GF and over time she was able to eventually stop using them. Went from getting sick in 5 minutes to being able to play a couple hours and then only feel slightly nauseous.

Supposedly you develop "VR Legs" after a while but it's never happened for me. I've been doing VR for years but there are still some games that make me feel nauseous almost immediately, mostly the ones that ridiculously only support direction keys/buttons for distance movement (so it's stupidly jerky) and don't have a teleport movement option, such as Robinson: The Journey and The Vanishing of Ethan Carter.

It may also be the rendering used by some games makes me feel really ill straight away while other's don't at all. I can't directly see any reason why, but I suspect there might be something subtle enough that only affects your subconscious, like the rendered perspective being slightly off causing effects such as a slight fisheye, or the game is not matching your physical movement exactly (or maybe quickly) enough to what you're actually seeing, or some such.
