You’re welcome. I remember being completely underwater at three weeks (our baby had just gotten released from the NICU, and my DH had already had to go back to work a week earlier). I’m still half-underwater now, tbh, but it’s definitely getting better, and the immediate sense of trauma and loss (that feeling of being separated from my baby right after birth, and knowing that that’s time I can’t ever get back) has receded a lot. I can remember it and even talk about it now without crying, and that feels like a big improvement.

Yeah, even a waterproof room might not be enough sometimes. I got peed on last weekend (I got too cocky right before bathtime!), and yesterday we had such a catastrophic diaper malfunction that the baby not only blasted out of the diaper, but soaked through a fleece sleep sack and then soaked the pack and play sheets in a puddle underneath. All hail waterproof PNP sheets. I’m constantly amazed by how much waste can come out of such a tiny body.

Vaccine stuff is one area that really shows you a new side of people that you thought you already knew well. We had people who balked that I would have expected to be totally cool with it, and people who didn’t hesitate who I would have expected to flat-out refuse. I’m glad that the people in your life who refused were willing to accept pictures until your LO gets older and gets his vaccines. And as for FAB, well...pineapple.

Our owlet didn’t get purchased off the registry either. We went with a refurbished owlet (which was $199 instead of $299), and then stacked that with the amazon registry completion discount, bringing it down to $169 total instead of $299. It looks like it the refurbished one isn’t currently available on Amazon, but they do still have it listed on the Owlet website for $199. We had asked the NICU doctor/nurses about it, and they pretty much said “either it’ll work REALLY well for you at easing your anxiety, or it’ll make things so much worse. You’re welcome to try it if you want to, but you won’t know which one it is unless/until you try it.” I figured that if it made me more anxious, I could always return it within the 45-day return window and get our money back. I actually kept it in the box for the first week or so at home, until the night I kept waking up panicked that I couldn’t hear the baby breathing, and then realized I couldn’t see the baby’s chest moving in the dark in the bassinet (tiny chest, tiny movements), and trying to put my hand on his chest to tell, and then still couldn’t tell, and ended up shining my cell phone light on him to see if he was breathing, which showed that he was, but then that woke him up, and it took forever to get him back to sleep, at which point I dozed off, and then woke up panicked again - rinse and repeat allllll night. I took the owlet out of its box the next day. I keep it on the nightstand in a direct line of sight from my pillow so that when I open my eyes, I can see the green ring glowing really softly, and know immediately that the baby is okay. I feel embarrassed writing all that out, but PPA is a hell of a thing, and sometimes just talking about it helps normalize it a bit. I’ve thought about the owlet camera before, and think that they actually sent out a $50 off code for people who already had the sock (maybe they have something similar for people who already have the camera?). What do you like most about the camera?

Good luck with your second session of therapy. Sometimes talking helps, sometimes meds help, and sometimes they can refer you to other resources you hadn’t even thought of. I hope it goes really well for you.

Adding a pineapple to the registry sounds excellent. Apparently Amazon even has convincing fake ones. Who knew?

Wonderful, good luck with the move!!

Things like this which save space but are much needed (especially for cheap eats like pasta!) are great. You can run out of kitchen space very easily, so saving space is great. Also, check out poundland - I'm pretty sure they sell these, and positive they sell lots of other nice little kitchen bits and pieces.

I see everyone is covering the really essential stuff - I totally second that. You'll only realise you don't have a can opener/corkscrew/potato masher/spatula when you need one!

EVERY house needs these - fairly sure they're compulsory by law.

For jazzing up your cooking, or to achieve the same and also have some living things sharing the space with you, fresh!

I'm trying to think of purely useful stuff - if you're living on your own, tupperware is a must! Otherwise you'll find yourself wasting tons of food!

Hope the move goes well :)

Alright guys, so Valentine's Day is right around the corner, so here is a brief walk-through/parts list for making one for your special someone! I know I didn't include progress photos, and mods, if you have to remove the post do so, but It's a pretty simple build, and someone on /r/somethingimade told me to post it over here as well :)

First off: The parts! (these are just the parts I used, if you can find alternatives you think would work better, go for it. I didn't really shop around too hard)

  1. Plymor Brand Glass Doll Display Dome with Walnut Base - 5.5" x 10"

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006XIQT7G?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00

You can get smaller ones for much cheaper, but it's for valentine's day, so I decided to go with a larger dome.

  2. Louis Garden 17" Artificial Silk Flowers Fake Rose (1, Red)

    http://www.amazon.com/Louis-Garden-Artificial-Silk-Flowers/dp/B00YY0B2DG/ref=sr_1_2?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1452834689&sr=1-2&keywords=Louis+Garden+17%22+Artificial+Flowers+Fake+Rose+-+Red

I actually ordered a two pack for this price when it was on sale I guess, and used the extra rose for the petals on the base.

  3. BZONE Led String Starry Light Copper Wire Lights Decorative Lights(20 Leds, Warm White, 7ft)

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00VUVAGDO?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00

You definitely don't need all 20 LEDs, but it was the shortest string I could find. More on that later. If you can find one with green wire it would look even better, but the ones I found were almost twice as expensive!

TOTAL PRICE: $47.50 ---- People sell them online for about $100 all put together, but I didn't feel like shelling out that much for such a simple concept.

    Next: The build!

I said the build was really straight-forward, and I meant it :)

  4. Drill a hole a tiny bit wider than the diameter of the stem of the rose through the center of the wooden stand for the glass dome.

  5. Cut the stem of the rose to a length that fits inside the dome. Don't go too short, you can always cut off more, but you can't add it back on! I also decided to remove one set of leaves from the stem. It originally had two clusters with three leaves each, but I wanted a more simple looking piece.

  6. Run the string of LEDs through the hole you drilled in the base. I only had 5 LED's through the hole on mine. They are pretty bright, and I didn't want to go overboard.

  7. Wrap the stem with the LED string. You want to leave a bit on the end of the stem so you can put it into the hole on the base. I had one LED at the very bottom of the stem to illuminate the fallen petals, and worked my way up. I had another about half-way up the stem, by the leaves, and a third tucked under the green leaves right under the flower.

  8. Slip the LED string between two of the petals, and work your way around the flower. With each wrap you want to slip the wire behind another layer of petals, working towards the center. This is probably the most tedious part of the build, as getting the LED strand to stay in the blossom was a bit of a challenge. I found that bending the wire down before I worked it into the petals worked for me, because if you don't it will want to pop up out of the blossom. Tuck any remaining wire you have into the petals so it is hidden. I only had 2 LEDs in the bloom, and it gave me the illumination level I had hoped for.

  9. Stick the end of the rose down into the base, and bend the stem of the rose to your liking (mine is a tad leaning towards the side)

  10. Tape the wire to the underside of the base so it stays out of the way. I lined it up with the best angle of the flower, and made sure the wire came out the back side.

  11. I had 14-15 extra LEDs on the wire, so I painted over them with some black acrylic paint, because I didn't want there to be light shining behind the shelf or dresser when she set it up.

  12. Place the glass dome onto the base

  13. Enjoy!!!

So - apologies for the length on this. My wedding is in December, about 150 people, with 7 bridesmaids and groomsmen.

I couldn't capture how truly wonderful these came out. One of my bridesmaids got started on the smaller bouquets and then did my big waterfall bouquet. My fiance helped with the corsages and boutonnieres. The grand total for everything - welcome sign, flowers, centerpieces, all came in under $450 and I'm super proud of finishing it up. I'll try to detail what I can and post links to places where I got flowers if someone asks!

Bridal Bouquet

https://imgur.com/Oe1uzUJ

I cannot take any credit for this - one of my bridesmaids had the vision and rolled with it. We bought peonies ($36), eucalyptus ($40), calla lillies ($40), and roses ($60) on Amazon. The last little bit of wispy flower at the bottom was a last minute buy at Michael's using a 50% coupon for $2.50. The roses are incredibly realistic and the full stems helped fill out the holders.

A florist would have certainly charged more than $400 just for something this size with the peonies. Similarly sized arrangements on Etsy were about $300-$350. And the flowers I bought for this leftover made all of the bridesmaid bouquets and misc arrangements!

Bridesmaids Bouquets

Detail: https://imgur.com/W74qjS0

Pre-Wrap: https://imgur.com/ofnivV4

Same flowers as the bridal bouquet! We also used a lot of floral tape ($3, coupon), ribbon ($5, after Christmas sale), and floral wire from the stems of roses that I used on the centerpieces.

Corsages and Boutonnieres

https://imgur.com/15aTilR

These were so easy! I took leaves from the rose a peony bundles, then ordered some extra baby's breath ($13, Amazon). Wrapped with floral tape and some ribbon I got on a 50% sale at Hobby Lobby. My fiance did most of the boutonnieres and he was pretty proud of himself.

Welcome Sign

https://imgur.com/QF7I3lr

Got the mirror at a garage sale ($5, what a steal), had Mod Podge and glitter from the centerpieces. Exploring options of getting a friend with nice handwriting to write the welcome message, or buy a decal off of Etsy (<$25). My cat was needy today and wanted to be in every picture :)

Centerpieces

Top w/ Table Number: https://imgur.com/NpheC3j

Low Light: https://imgur.com/4MmfiIE

Detail: https://imgur.com/HygEhD7

This has a lot of details. I first bought the cheap 1-20 wood table numbers on Amazon ($20, I think), the Mod Podge ($8), Fine Glitter ($10, Michael's), and mod podged the crap out of the numbers and layered on the glitter. This took several hours between drying and doing.

We then stumbled upon a $40 deal on Facebook marketplace that included 20 8" vases, 200 Dinopure White Roses, 25 purple fairy lights, various glass stones and beads, and an LED candle set.

I built on this by buying 100 more roses ($40, Amazon), 24x 3" styrofoam balls ($30, Amazon), 2 packs water beads ($15, Amazon), and two colors of the vase mix of floating pearls (Etsy, $40).

I hot glues the roses to the styrofoam balls with enough room for it to still fit on top of the vase. I then wrapped the fairy lights around that, and hot glued the table number to the top.

The water beads and floating pearls are an easy set up. Let the beads swell for a couple hours, pour in the vase and in layers add the beads and stir. Topping off with water gives the floating effect.

This was all enough to make ~18 centerpieces, 1 bridal bouquet, 7 bridesmaids bouquets, 12 boutonnieres, 5 corsages, 1 welcome sign, and we're using leftover flowers, vases, plus running medals (my and my fiance's hobby) to round out the decorations. I already have frames ($35, Micheals on 75% off plus extra 20% off super sale) and shimmer paper that I will DIY print any other signs needed.

Ok, here's a tutorial of sorts. These were super easy to make, and I am not very crafty.

Materials:

7" vases - Dollar Tree

9" vases - Dollar Tree

10.5" vases - Amazon

Glass stones - Amazon

Submersible LED lights - Amazon

Calla lilies - Amazon
I ordered orange and navy. My wedding color blue is royal blue, not navy, but as you can see in the photos they are pretty light for navy, and are passable for royal blue.

The flowers come in a variety of colors, so if you're into calla lilies you can make these work. They have wires in the stems, so I just bent the stems up and played around with height and color combos until I had a set up I liked. Then I used those flowers as a template to cut the other flower stems to length with wire cutters.

The calla lilies float if they are not weighed down, so I hot glued the end of each stem to one of the glass stones and buried it under the rest of the stones. Worked perfectly, and you can't see it in the final set up.

The Dollar Tree vases are FANTASTIC, and I suggest looking there first no matter what type of vase you're looking for since they have a variety. They didn't have the taller vases I needed so I had to spend a bit more to get them from Amazon, but kept total costs to about $250 for 10-12 centerpieces. I don't think there's an appreciable difference between the Amazon vases and Dollar Tree vases, they go very well together.

My original plan was to use floating candles instead of LED lights, but I really liked how the shadows are cast with the uplighting from the submerged LEDs. It also makes a little bit of a blue glow through the stones. I am making another one-vase decoration (same thing, just the medium-sized vase instead of 3) with a floating candle next to a written memorial for my dad and my fiancé's and my grandparents who have passed. The point is floating candles definitely work for these if that's your thing.

Anyway, I'm happy to provide more info by request, though I think this pretty much covers it!

u/pinkmagedon · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Flower petals, fake may work better, but I think their pretty classy.

ice I know it may not last long, but you could make a bunch of these and stick them in a bowl for center peices, and possibly put some black glitter in the bottom of it. Extra points if you can somehow get some uhm...that weird ice stuff that makes things smokey. That'd be boss.

I'm trying to think of cheap Ideas, haha.

The only other idea I have, is to get skull shot glasses like this and fill them with purple dyed water/glitter ect. Very small, but still something. Could even get the petals to go around it.

orrr get something like this to go in a smaller sugar skull vase/cup.

These are neat! They look kind of purpley and small. You could get again, flower petals, or silk flowers to border them. That would be cute.

I found this on google. Could probably make it by hand but its a little out there.

Doily + candle., could even use the no flame ones I linked.

I hope your wedding is absolutely wonderful! I demand pictures, because that seriously seems like an awesome idea and I'm pretty jelly. I wanna see how it turns outttt!

u/Droidaphone · 10 pointsr/shrimptank

The two biggest challenges with all-in-one setups for shrimp is light (not enough) and waterflow (too much.) Shrimp really require live plants to thrive, and those plants need enough light to grow. It's hard to judge from pictures, but that tank's light seems like it MIGHT be adequate for low light plants. Shrimp also require very low waterflow. High waterflow will blow them around (they're tiny and light swimmers compared to fish) and they will easily get sucked onto the intakes of most filters. The tank you linked would need some modifications to be suitable for shrimp: at the very least it will need sponges or pantyhose covering the inlet and outlets, and the flow will need to be turned down to the lowest setting, probably.

So, it might work. But if you're interested in shrimp specifically, you might as well spend a small amount extra and build a custom setup that is tailored to them. You'd need:

  • a 10 gal tank (10 gal is cheaper to buy than 5, it's not any more work, and barely any more space.) Check thrift store for this if budget is a concern. You don't NEED a hood, unless you have kids or cats or something.

  • A sponge filter , aquarium tubing, and an air pump. This is the preferred filter type for shrimp. While we're discussing filters, make sure you understand the nitrogen cycle, and the basics of cycling a tank.

  • An aquarium heater and a thermometer. Don't stinge here. Maintaining a stable temperature is key.

  • A nice light. Doesn't have to pricey. A desk lamp and a daylight CFL bulb works great, but LEDs like thisare not much, either.

I think all of that will run you roughly $75, give or take. Obviously, more expensive than the all-in-one, but it would result in a tank that would be easier for a beginner to succeed with.

You'll also need to get some non-equipment essentials, like subtrate for planting in, a test-kit for monitoring your water, and obviously food, and a petri dish for feeding is highly recommended.

Then you can get into plants and stuff. Whew! Sounds like a lot, I guess. It is, but it's worth it, and shrimp are definitely a good place to jump into aquariums.

u/Nezsa · 1 pointr/Aquariums

Hmm, I don't think I've ever encountered a substrate guide like that, but based on the plants and fish you want to stock, you'll have success with either aquasoil, or sand+RootTabs.

If you weren't looking for a dark sand I would suggest going to your local hardware store and picking up Pool filter sand, but unfortunately it's usually white.

I've heard great things from Black Diamond blasting sand, but I'm not sure if it's available in Canada.

If you go to any of the pet stores near you, you'll probably be able to find "CaribSea Super Naturals" sand, which works well and it pretty commonly available.

For soil, I used Fluval Aquasoil for my first heavily planted tank, and it worked well. It's a bit expensive, but since you're setting up such a small tank I don't think it'll be too bad. I'm guessing a 4.4lb bag will be enough, but please double check!

u/PuppiesandProsecco · 7 pointsr/DesignMyRoom

First start with a clean slate. Declutter and remove all the posters from the wall. New bedding, headboard, and a bedside lamp would really help brighten up the space and help it feel more mature. I’d also replace the curtains with a lighter color that are floor length (short curtains are a dated look). I agree that some wall shelves (on the wall to the right above your bed) would be a great way to add visual interest with art and pictures while keeping the room clean. Add some fabric baskets on your existing black furniture to organize your stuff and add texture, and a floor plant next to the tv and there ya go; bedroom refresh under $500 for a 20 something.

u/Elhazar · 1 pointr/PlantedTank

Well, it does is a hard challenge for a beginner, but doing a properly carpeted nano-Aquascape (~20l <=> ~5g <=> ~2.0 × 10^-2 m^3) with DIY CO2 and a small sponge filter is doable in <150$

A quick, small suggestion:

Tank, ~13l <=> 3.4g, 40$

Soil, 20$

Light, 40$

stones, 25$

Filter, 10$,

1 pot Monte carlo or some other easy carpet plant at your lfs: 8€

We‘re left with 7$ for ~4 RCS, I guess.

I assumed you construct you DIY CO2 from an old bottle with sugar and yeast, so 0$ effetivly.

For cycling and food some free samples of fish food does the job. When food rots it emits ammonia, that could be used for cycling.

So here we go, every thing ready for a nice iwagumi-aquascape. If you do well, it might looks like this (That Tank has HC as carpet, but Monte carlo looks similar)!

Well, if you‘re willing to put up a dozens of hours on studying to to properly keep a planted tank.

edit: Wrong link for tank, this was the one I mistakenly linked to. Still a nice, small tank, tho. Also some additions for clearance.

Congrats! My brother and sister-in-law did a surprise lunch wedding similar to your idea, and it turned out great! They ended up ordering fabric and fake hanging vines from Amazon and it turned out really pretty. I believe they may have been similar to the ones below, but not sure of the exact item:

I’m a girl on a budget too, and just ordered my wedding dress from BHLDN for around $225. ☺️ You might also check out ASOS or Lulu’s for affordable dresses, or look at ivory/white dresses labeled for bridesmaids. For rings, Etsy has a ton of really pretty and affordable options. I’m a fan of the rings in the store below!

My amazon sword and anacharis loves it! Even my anubias attaches itself to the substrate even though it has a decor for itself. There's other substrate that has fertilizer for the plants but that's only an online purchase from Amazon.

I feel like it will help with keeping the tank healthy. When I changed out the substrate for another color I crashed my cycle. I asked Reddit and researched and finds out I killed a lot of good bacteria :/ But remember to get a siphon to clean it every week. I do about a 25% water change when I clean the substrate. For the plants, since I just have this substrate from petco, I add weekly or bi weekly leaf zone, also found at petco. It does what the fertilizer substrate would do.

This is the fertilizer substrate from Amazon:

What are the legal implications of selling a name brand product under your own label? For example, this seller (like this one) is selling IKEA curtain brackets for a markup. This seller is actually called "by IKEA" but is "Sold by Fit Your Style Online and Fulfilled by Amazon." Is this legitimate? Can they get shut down or sued? Just curious how it works. Thanks!

u/Carnby · 1 pointr/shrimptank

You could try some crystal red shrimp. Since your tap water is soft, you might be able to use some shrimp stratum that will help lower your pH to a more comfortable level for them. Bees also like cooler water, try to keep it around 70-73F for best results. Personally, I use [salty shrimp bee mineral] (http://www.saltyshrimp.de/english/beesalt_bee_shrimp_mineral_gh_plus.html) to remineralize the RO water my LFS sells.

Fluvial stratum for the substrate and black diamond blasting sand for the middle. Can’t say much about my substrate yet, but it hasn’t made the water murky or tannic. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00JMA9S52/ref=yo_ii_img?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Definitely look into floor-length tablecloths, and tall centerpieces.

She used 100 of these roses for them, and only half to a third really need that tall one.

You can also hang paper lanterns from the ceiling and again, lighting makes a difference.

something like this

The first layer is API Laterite and the top layer is Fluval Stratum

Picked up the driftwood + rocks at my local fish store!

In the meantime, something like this ought to do the trick to cover those pesky wires in the corner. :-)

Amazon, I found these and used plant weights and black thermoplastic I already had to make a base so they’d sink. I used half of one of the plants for each side of my aquarium. They came with the stems attached to a plastic coated wire so I just popped them off and pieced them out.

Hemianthus callitrichoides

Is not hard to grow, doesn't need that much light. It does prefer soft water with slightly acidic PH. I've found it grows quite easily with Fluval Shirmp Substrate which tends to lower PH.

I'm not using CO2 in any of my tanks

I'm starting a new shrimp tank and want it to be well planted. What suggestions to you have? I think I'll get a glass square cut and 3D print mounts and maybe buy a larger light. Any suggestions on plants? I don't want to pump in CO2.

Substrate: Fluval Plant and Shrimp Stratum, 4.4-Pound https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JGQIY48/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_apa_Ly8FzbWTZZ8CG

You mean this stuff, right?:

https://www.amazon.com/Fluval-Plant-Shrimp-Stratum-4-4-Pound/dp/B00JGQIY48

I was looking at that, but ultimately, potting soil has more nutrients in it (and it's what I'm used to using in all other aspects of my life), and I just prefer the idea of roots going into real soil.

So with that in mind, would you suggest the stratum as a cap? Or is that too light for a cap?

If you're still having trouble getting ahold of Aquasoil, Fluval Plant and Shrimp Stratum has some similarities to Aquasoil Amazonia (mineral-rich baked earth pellets that buffer at a slightly acidic pH).
