8. Mixing Mate 10-090 Gallon Size Paint Can Lid
- Mixing Mate Paint Lid: The mixing mate paint mixer lid makes mixing and pouring paints and finishes as easy and mess-free as pouring syrup from a restaurant-style dispenser.
- Stir, Pour, & Store: Just stir, pour, and store in an instant with one ingenious tool (gallon paint can pour spout)! Our pour and store gallon paint can lid fits any standard one-gallon can of paint, stain, or varnish.
- Forget The Lid Opener: With this paint can dispenser simply forget the lid opener, stir stick, punching holes in the rim with a nail and hammer, paint pouring down the side of the can, and trying to bang the lid back onto a gummed up rim without deforming it.
- Easy, Drip-Free Action: Whether you're pouring paint into a tray, or stain and varnish into your paint gun, you'll appreciate the easy, drip-free action. Simply crank the paint mixing machine handle, press the thumb lever, and pour.
- Auger-Style Mixing Paddle: The auger-style mixing paddle lifts pigments from the bottom of the gallon can paint, doing in seconds what would take minutes with a messy, wasteful stir stick. And when you're done, simply set the can back on the shelf for storage.

🎓 Reddit experts on automotive body paint
The comments and opinions expressed on this page are written exclusively by redditors. To provide you with the most relevant data, we sourced opinions from the most knowledgeable Reddit users based the total number of upvotes and downvotes received across comments on subreddits where automotive body paint are discussed. For your reference and for the sake of transparency, here are the specialists whose opinions mattered the most in our ranking.
It doesn't make you sound dumb, I'd rather see something unique and cool instead of the same mods that are done over and over again.
If you're looking into RallyX have you thought about swapping over to Forester suspension to raise it up a bit?
I'd go the Cobb AccessPort route instead of tactrix because of the simplicity and now that the V3 has come out, the V2 is around $100 cheaper I think. But if you're comfortable doing it that way do it.
I'm not sure if it's just the picture but the headlights look a bit foggy. I used this on my first car a few years ago and it worked great. Most of the other headlight restoration kits are bullshit. You could also bake them open and paint the plastic pieces black to spice things up.
If yellow foglights are your thing I used this on my Subaru and I love it. Just takes around 5 light coats on the outside of the fog lights and you're good to go. Much better than any of the tint overlays or light bulbs.
Here's some information on it. Daniel Stern is pretty well known as the lighting expert.
Another thing you could consider if you want to mix things up is plastidipping your car. DipYourCar has some wild colors, Sunset Orange and Tiffany Blue are my personal favorites. I'd stay away from the normal black though, it normally makes cars look pretty trashy.
Hopefully it doesn't sound like I'm telling you what to do with the car, just giving suggestions. Good luck!
Strip:
To strip paint for aluminum or steel you can use a paint stripper or wire brush. You can also do media blasting, but only if you plan to powdercoat afterwards, because it leaves small dings in the frame. To strip a carbon frame sand it by hand. For any frame type, you don't need to strip to the bare material, but can use the existing paint as a primer.
Prime:
I use Duplicolor Self Etching Primer, with good results. It was like $24 for a 6 pack when I got it, I don't know why it's so expensive now. You could try a different self etching primer, or look for Duplicolor for cheaper. Sand down after each coat, usually a grit of 400 - 600 is good or use a lower grit if it is not smooth.
To Paint:
For DIY paint jobs you can use rattle cans or an airbrush. Sand after each coat, again starting with around 400 - 600 grit. It's hard to give specific advice for paint because there are so many different ones, and all would probably do an okay job.
Clear:
It depends how much money you want to spend. Cheap rattle clears are not durable, but the more durable 2k spray clears are expensive and toxic. I've read that you can use an airbrush for 2 part clear, but have not tried it yet.
I just wanted to say, from one matte black 883N owner to another, your iron looks awesome. Its a great example of why I love this model, because while yours and mine are very different, they look like they should be riding together in a pack

Can't wait to see the finished product.
If you EVER need a perfect match for the harley black denim, its here:
http://www.amazon.com/ColorRite-HARLEY-DAVIDSON-BLACK-DENIM/dp/B00BTJN2ZQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1394838786&sr=8-1&keywords=colorrite+harley+black+denim
I did my mini fairing and a few other bits with that exact kit...they are a spot on match.
What is the other bike I see, is it yours?
I have an FZ6 also that is about to go street fighter and probably get dipped black.
The lamps were made by two different companies. Their R and D departments worked toward a similar goal in a different way.
Which one is better? Well, generally speaking, I would state that Hella has a better engineered product, whereas a company like PIAA or KC go straight for the "brute force" approach.
Will either work? Light them up, mock them up where you think you want them, and see.
As far as long range vision, light color does matter.
Given that you want to use them in less than ideal weather, I would recommend giving them a shot with a selective yellow tinted lens, using this paint ( https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000994BUW/?tag=2402507-20 ), or use a selective yellow bulb balloon ( http://store.candlepower.com/clyeba.html ).
Pretty much yes. I used this paint
I first just used my jack and did my right tire but if you can put your car on stands, it will save you lots of time! I first did my front right side. Lift the car, took the tire out, cleaned the caliper extra well with a rag and alcohol (to really get rid of any dirt and oils). Then started masking all round with newspaper and masking tape (including the ground.. I used paper and garbage bags). I Used an exacto blade to cut around the areas I didnt want to get paint on (really not as hard as it sounds just be careful). Then I primed it with regular primer spray paint. Waited for it to dry, and went at it with the yellow paint. Here is a link of a few pics i took between layers, imgur.com/a/h8kPg You wanna Do 2 or 3 layers which i highly recommend putting the car on stands. That way you can mask and paint and switch sides as you go instead of just using the jack for one caliper and having to wait 15-30min between layers. Hope that helps. Feel free to PM me if you still have some trouble
Edit: Sorry, the second link isnt showing up but just copy and paste and it should work
I kno you can use rusto ready to spray clear coat and there primer works pretty good on plastic an is decently priced just do a decent good cut an buff an I will look good

There are rust inhibitor paints that bond to the oxidation for the inside of the door unless you feel like tearing the interior panel out to get access that's about the best you're going to do.
Looks pretty good for a 32 year old car though!
I want to paint my wheels. Looking for a nice new color. What i want is something gold, silver or a copper color. Feel free to add your own idea to it.
Im thinking of this color: https://www.amazon.com/Performance-Corvettes-DipYourCar-Basecoat-Aerosol/dp/B079K4Y65H#
I would like to get a couple of pictures with different colors.
Thanks in advance, this is my first time posting here, so i dont really know how this works.
I know this sub loves the TCS Horse Stall Mats but I found these on Amazon.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074DSJLLY/?coliid=I1G9VYRCZACSZ7&colid=3LQJL0788BZYG&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it
They look like they're cheaper and easier to install and I can get them delivered right to my house without the famous smell I've heard so much about.
Is there any downside to these mats?
I'm also thinking of getting some wide vinyl tape to hold the seems together.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MU7N3RI/?coliid=IEC6NCYHRPM7U&colid=3LQJL0788BZYG&psc=1
Anyone know if this tape will hold on those mats?
And then using some sealer to smooth the edges of the tape.

The color is super easy to acquire: https://www.amazon.com/Dupli-Color-BSP203-2-PK-Performance-Finish/dp/B00B3UWORI/ref=sr_1_1?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1483499618&sr=1-1&keywords=dupli+color+performance+red
It looks like you may be getting a fisheye affect. This happens when finish is in the presence of wood impregnated with silicone based products like Pledge. There are a few different ways to wash the wood with solvents, but the easiest thing to do is add fisheye eliminator to your finish.

A magician never reveals his secrets.
...but I'm not a magician, so here goes:
There are actually two different paints behind this look. The first is a metallic coating (for this I used the Rustoleum Bright Reflective Finish), which gives the reflective property. The actual color comes from anodized automotive spray (Duplicolor's popular for this kind of stuff). Combine reflective finish with red anodized paint and boom: red chrome.
TL;DR: combine these for shiny:
https://www.rustoleum.com/product-catalog/consumer-brands/auto/specialty-paints/metallic/
https://www.amazon.com/Dupli-Color-EMC200007-Metal-Anodized-Color/dp/B000994BUM
feather edge better, those primer lines will show up... I learned the hard way. paintscratch offers a good color match spary. you can buy 2k clearcoat on there too. Heres instructions for a rusthole and a youtube VIDEO on how to color match spray.
You have to blend to match the edges. and scuff with scuff it
I've got a bunch of things that I rattle can painted and they quit smelling after a few days. There are definitely a bunch of down sides to spray painting your shoes though, like what if sweat releases the paint and you have half chrome feet for a month.
Fabric spray : Dupli-Color HVP106 Flat Black High Performance Vinyl and Fabric Spray - 11 oz. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00098PO3G/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_aBB7ybV3KD6QQ

I use Duplicolor spray-on truck bed liner. I've also experimented with Herculiner roll-on bed liner, and surprisingly the spray-on is more durable. Might have to give the Floor-tex a try too; looks interesting!
I actually just repaired and re-sprayed a few volumes last week and was planning on doing a post about repairing volumes once they've been on the wall for a cycle.
What do you think about this? I was thinking I could get away with 4 or 5 cans. Does chassis saver do something special besides make a rugged protective layer (like adhere better than a bed liner spray)? If you don't know I certainly welcome speculation.
Plastidip (I used anthracite gray though)
https://www.amazon.com/Bundle-Pieces-Plasti-Deluxe-Gunmetal/dp/B00TVVR60Q/ref=sr_1_fkmrnull_4?keywords=plasti+dip+kit+gray&qid=1558613463&s=gateway&sr=8-4-fkmrnull

Can be done in a couple hours, very easy.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AFYX_5cS1go
Yes I'm following ChrisFixs' video on his civic suspension rebuild and he recommends you rust proof it with this paint.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00H2VVQNU?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
I would go for the Dupli-Color Truck Bed Coating based on what I've read so far. What products have you used?
Any particular reason you say roll on? Thought on using a sprayer like I mentioned?
There are actually candy and candy like sprays that are primarily used for cars. Think that could work? Or would that kinda paint be to much for gunpla plastic?
examples: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000994BUM/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1411884379&sr=8-3&keywords=spray+paint+candy+red

No you use something like scuff-it, and a grey scotch brite to scuff the panel without going too deep. I wouldn't use a rattle can, paint guns are inexpensive especially for one time use. Any autobody supply store can mix a quart of single stage that will come out a lot better and last longer than rattle can
Thanks for the quick reply man, is this similar to what you used? https://www.amazon.com/POR-15-45404-Gloss-Black-Preventive/dp/B00H2VVQNU?ref_=bl_dp_s_web_2598761011#customerReviews
I would suggest sanding carefully with 600 grit and/or scuffing with gray scotchbrite in the tight areas, making sure there are no shiny spots. Then you can airbrush or spray an orange candy similar to House of Kolor or Kosmic candy and then re-clear with polyurethane clear. wet sand and buff in standard automotive refinishing fashion.
I have a mixing mate, in both the gallon and quart sizes:
http://www.amazon.com/Mixing-Mate-10-090-Gallon-Paint/dp/B00B2H7JM2
It's 1000% better than anything else out there. No stir sticks, no paint/finish on the lid or the sides, no junk getting in the paint, you can store it with this thing on, it gives you a much better handle then the metal ones that come on the can, affordable. As long as you wash right after taking it off the can and don't let anything dry on it it takes 5-10 minutes and some soapy water to get it completely clean. It's one of those gadget that once you have it you can't ever go back.
You can use an etching primer. Then go for the base color coat.
Just make sure you let them sit for at least 72 hours to let them outgas and cure. then you should be fine to screw them in. Just don't go too crazy with rough-housing them.
DupliColor Vinyl Dye is probably the least prep-intensive and best product for base coats. The downside is that it comes in limited colors and is a bit harder to get your hands on than conventional spray paint. Check your local automotive stores, or the auto section of your supermarket. Flat black is recommended.
https://www.amazon.ca/Mixing-Mate-10-090-Gallon-Paint/dp/B00B2H7JM2
I'm sure you could find cheaper ones, the ones I'm familiar with you can connect your drill to it to mix. The paint we use is fine for years in the can with that lid.
I could have sworn I've seen rattlecan versions. I'm sure it's not as durable, but for our application it may be fine.
http://www.amazon.com/Dupli-Color-BAA2010-Bed-Armor-Aerosol/dp/B004SJ16QG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1333480034&sr=8-1
Before any mentions it... yes that awful display surround has been changed... A little over a year and no issues with peeling or cracking in NC weather.
Just do a bunch of layers of adhesive spray, some paint and a couple of uv protective coats of flat clear. Set aside a whole day if you plan to rip everything out like I did.

At auto repair shops they have spray-on fabric dye that would work well. Be advised you need to vacuum a few times after and it will probably have a slight transfer to other materials for a little while until fully cured.

Dupli-Color HVP106 Flat Black High Performance Vinyl and Fabric Spray - 11 oz https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00098PO3G/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_1wqCDb1RZK11Q I would give that a try. Even if it doesn't look perfect it's cheap enough to be worth a try.

For the fog lamps I used Dupli-color Yellow Metal Cast, also from amazon not sure how I feel about the fog lamps though, the paint made it hazy...I'm going to test it out a bit tonight.
