Not sure if you were asking about for yourself or baby. I haven't figured out myself as I'm due March 1 but so far have a super small belly that I'm hoping I can fit into my oversize coat. For baby I feel the same way--I don't want to spend $50 on something he will probably only wear a handful of times. So I put this on our registry and someone already got it for us so I've seen it in person and it's freaking adorable. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074T1KJTF/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_5ZB1Bb50M4E7N

>how to get my toddler into her car seat with no coat

With this thing: http://www.amazon.com/Columbia-Baby-Girls-Snowtop-Bunting-Lumberjack/dp/B00HANHIQ4

I bought one for my toddler when she was a baby last winter, and now we've got another one that we use all the time. It's perfect and safe for riding in a car seat because it's not bulky at all, it's warm as hell, and it's also pretty cheap for what it is. We have a parka for my kid too? But honestly we only put that on her if we'll be walking outside for awhile, or if for some reason we have to park super far away from something and it's really cold and/or windy or I expect her to fall into the snow or something (i.e., don't go sledding in it).

Also a mom friend of mine has two kids, 2.5 and 5 months, and she seriously wears the baby on her front in the Moby Wrap and the toddler on her back in an Ergo. She's about 110lbs soaking wet and pulls this off like it's nothing. I am both awestruck by and terrified of her.

I don't know the brand, but there is a winter coat that opens up so you can put the car seat restraints underneath. It's awesome. I'll see if I can find a link.

Edit: here is an example of one from Amazon

This thing is my jam. It is a one piece and though I have to wrestle him into it I feel that he is safe and warm and easier than dealing with multiple hat/mittens, etc. On very cold days a blanket goes on top, but he seems to just throw it off.

It depends what your typical day is like. For us, LO never really spent more than 5 minutes outside (usually us carrying LO between the car and a building) - so we didn't do any crazy seat covers or hugely 'winter' items. We do get snow and temps are routinely in the mid 20s in the dead of winter.

  • Lo's usual outfit was pants, a long sleeve onesie, a vest or zip up hoodie, and socks. the zip up hoodie was effectively his 'winter coat' since it was columbia brand (https://www.amazon.com/Columbia-Benton-Springs-Fleece-Jacket/dp/B00D076U7W). Once inside, we'd take off the zip up since most places were warm enough!
  • we had a small fleece blanket that we would tuck around LO in the infant carseat (after LO was buckled in) if we had to carry it outside. We'd also put a hat on LO.
  • Footed PJs for bedtime.
  • We only did shoes if LO was going out in public.
  • We park in the garage, but would warm up the car (if possible) if we were in a parking lot.

London Fog Newborn Infant Baby Girl Boy Puffer Carbag Pram Bag Snowsuit Bunting - Grey (0/6 Months) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LYNFXGY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_W8jZDbK2AN9R9

Even if youre not interested in using amazon those are a few key words to look for and the ideal type you need for a baby so small. I know the only issue with this type of suit is depending on the type of harness for stroller it might not buckle well.

I got one of these covers. I prefer it to a blanket because of the arm holes.

HOWEVER, don’t make my mistake. I bought the large thinking “well it’ll just be a little big this year and we’ll get a few more years use out of it”. It’s so big that it’s just a lot of extra material to deal with on my 16 month old. Should’ve gone for small.

I have this car seat safe coat on my wish list for next year.

I’d be inclined to shop around for alternative brands to find competitive pricing. This particular brand runs large.
