Baby Teether Toys Buying Guide

Teething is among the many milestones in a baby’s life. However, it can also be a time of discomfort and pain for most babies making them more irritable and fussier than usual. Swollen, tender gums are in no way fun for adults and can be worse for toddlers.

Baby teether toys are one of the best ways to ease the pain of teething. In addition, teething toys can also improve sensory awareness, desensitizes gag reflexes, and helps babies to explore their growing world.

It is clear that randomly picking teether toys is not the best way to go. So here’s a baby teether toys buying guide.

Material

The best teether toys have food-grade silicone, rubber, and natural wood. These teething materials are usually non-toxic and BPA-free, which makes them safe for babies.

Teether toys in the above materials are easy on the gums, help to massage the gums and are durable. In addition, these materials also do not pose a choking hazard. You can also wash these teether toys without problems, so your baby stays healthy.

Design

The design of the teether toys is another important buying factor. Teethers with ring-shaped or circular designs make it easy for younger babies to hold, while straight or stick-shaped teether toys are ideal for toddlers and older babies.

Features

Teether toys appear simplistic and straightforward, but they have interesting features. Some teethers have gum-cleaning features, while others can provide complete sensory stimulation.

In addition, teethers with nipple-shaped designs help with gum development, while some teethers have cooling properties that act as pain relief.

Understandably, teethers with additional features will have a higher price point than that of a regular one. However, teether toys are available in all designs, features, and price points, so these buying tips should help you get the perfect teether for your baby.

Bibs! Those silicone ones are great, I also recommend having at least two sleeved bibs for really messy stainy food. If you go with fabric, you'll need A LOT. (My kid rejected the silicone bibs at a year, so we switched to fabric.)

Cups. It's good to start early with a cup so they are taking it well by a year. I recommend the Munchkin 360 cups. Granted my kid did not take a bottle, so I NEEDED her to take a cup by the time she started daycare (12 months) so it was a focus for me.

Portable high chair of some sort. Most restaurants have high chairs, but people's houses don't, and it's really nice to have one for travelling. I recommend one that attaches to a chair, not clip on to a table. I originally got one that clipped on to a table, but found it didn't work on nearly any of the tables we encountered. So I returned it, and bought one that attached to a chair, and have never had an issue with it. I have this one, which worked well until about 18 months or so, but if I was going to buy one again I'd get this one. A friend has it, and it looks awesome, and her two year old is still using it.

Sleep sacks. I love sleep sacks, and we are only now just starting to transition my kid to blankets at 19 months. On cold days we still sleep sack her, since she's not very good at staying under blankets just yet.

Silicone feeder. In the early feeding days these are great since they mash on them. We are still using them now though! I keep them in the freezer loaded with frozen fruit for teething (we are currently teething 4 teeth and it's miserable for everyone.) You can get mesh ones, but I've heard they are much harder to clean, so silicone is the way to go.

> If you would have read some of my other replies. I've stated that I've given him teethers.

Following up with this advice, I'd totally recommend this one:

It worked great with my son.

I'd also suggest trying to do as much self care as possible. Do you have someone who could come over and help you? If you had PPD, you might want to see your doctor as well and talk about some of these feelings.

I wish you the best.

Cute! We have an activity mat or that's exactly what I would have gotten! My mom picked out a crib piano so he will get that (and will love. He has been getting more into noises and loves to kick) and I picked out two crinkle animals that are also teethers.

My son loves this. ZoLi CHUBBY GUMMY gum massaging teethers, Green/Orange, Set of 2 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B013RUB70Q/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_X.35wbQPR8SE1 it's super ergonomic and he puts it straight in his mouth everytime. We started giving it to him right around 4 months and at almost 8 months he still loves it.

u/ValkoSipuliSuola · 1 pointr/beyondthebump

My little guy isn't quite old enough to fully appreciate his Sophie, but he LOVES to hear it squeak. His face lights up and he starts laughing. They also make a trio of mushroom shaped toys that he loves even more! They're a little bit softer than the Sophie. If you grab one by the body and shake it left to right really fast, the head bobbles and it squeaks like crazy and he goes NUTS!

u/LogicPuzzler · 3 pointsr/Invisalign

I use silicone teethers. They can be washed more easily than chewies (top rack of the dishwasher if you want to be thorough) and come in a variety of shapes.

My favorite is this gray whale from Bumkins although I also like these ZoLi bunny ears. The latter is great when you really need to seat those back molars.

At that age my son was a fan of the munch mitt.

Lots of people recommend the banana.

Also some kind of frozen teether might help.

We tried frozen washcloths but my son wasn't a fan. I don't remember when we started giving Infant Motrin but... my son got his first tooth at 9 months and it was around then.

In a few months, once baby is eating solids, you might try handing her a frozen waffle. I know it doesn't help for now but put the idea in your back pocket. Now that we're working on molars it's the only thing that reaches the back of my son's mouth. And he loves food so he's more inclined to actually use/eat it.

u/CluckMcDuck · 2 pointsr/beyondthebump

I don't know about organic, but my nerdy self LOVED the fabric choices by 'greenleafbaby' on Etsy. (I got LO a harry potter and a star wars one lol) They were really great quality, and the back is the 'minky' fuzzy fabric so it's comfy against LO's skin.

For teething: Motrin AND tylenol on hand. On bad nights you can alternate them to overlap doses just a little, since they're different active drugs. Motrin lasts longer overnight, too. LO used his bink mostly, and had 2 teethers, but didn't really care about them (room temp OR cold). this was one of them: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B077VLC1F9/

Try these out too. They are made with rice in Japan. Recommended by a friend and my baby loves them. Mochi Teething Plate by People. I got the trumpet too. Getting my little one ready to blow out the candles for his first birthday!

u/Draconismaximus · 1 pointr/littlespace

My two cents are just a supplement to the otherwise great advice already offered. Now I am a bit prone to anxiety myself so when I need to cope tactile stimulation helps bring me back. I mostly take to ringing the corner of my shirt my hand, taking in the texture of the fabric, buttons etc. Now in the spirit of littles though maybe something like this might appeal to you. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DMLAWAQ/ref=twister_B01DMKTBH2?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I don't know if you have an oral fixation, but I find that having something like this to mouth or chew on puts me more in the right mind set.

u/TheRubyRedPirate · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

A pirate skull pacifier because our baby is the cutest. Oh and for your RAoA anniversary!!! Yay!

u/sk613 · 1 pointr/beyondthebump

We've had success with Sofi the giraffe, razbaby razberry teether, the links made to connect toys to the baby gym or stroller, and Nearbyme Baby Teething Toys, FDA Approved BPA-Free Soft Silicone Fruit Teether Set with Pacifier Clip / Holder for Toddlers & Infants, 5 Pack https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07T9C7H4G/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_tcYYDbE7TVNTW

For pacifiers we like mam

u/skeietonTROVE · 1 pointr/loseit

Yes, the do! Technically speaking :)

I have a wicked oral fixation which usually = me eating things, so I went to the store and bought a soft baby chew toy. It's safe to chew on as long as you want, just keep it clean

I have this one, got it at walmart i think http://www.amazon.com/Bright-Starts-First-Teether-Elephant/dp/B00FNJ7C7C

u/deceasedhusband · 3 pointsr/beyondthebump

Baby Paper is a godsend. You can thank me later.

And another vote for a baby gym. We got the Skip Hop kind and the toys detach so she can play with them. Also those plastic links. I attach them to the gym so they dangle and she can grab them.

But seriously, baby paper.

u/samanthastevens · 3 pointsr/autism

Piggy backing on this because we have tried several necklaces and my daughter has found one she loves but now I can't figure out what strength it is. It is the orange twisty one. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07CMTLTRB/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1

Anyone know how to get more of just this one or to find others with similar strength/texture?

u/muffetskicky · 3 pointsr/beyondthebump

Nuby 2-Pack ZooLoops Teethers, Colors May Vary https://www.amazon.com/dp/B014VXO5P2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_DMdSBbQEHJQAG

This isn't the same shape as the kong toy, but it is the same type of plastic. My baby loves these. We got a set at walmart. If it's the texture that your baby likes, this might work.

Just a note: for a long time my dogs were my babies, they still are. They have a ton of toys I picked up at thrift stores that are actually baby toys. The dogs know which toys are theirs and which toys are not. I use the command "mine" if they so happen to go after my daughter's toys. They immediately drop it, or go find one that is actually theirs. Anyways, dog toys and baby toys are so similar, I don't see a problem giving them toys designed for the other. Maybe get your kiddo their own kong.

u/sewsnap · 19 pointsr/ThingsCutInHalfPorn

We had one shaped like a boob. My son liked the boob toy better then the giraffe. https://www.amazon.com/Vullie-Sophie-Giraffe-Chan-Blue/dp/B002VAHRNK

u/guinnessmom · 2 pointsr/Mommit

amen to the no amber necklace request! lol silly. We got our LO this vibrating teether and she seemed to really enjoy the vibration of it on her gums. Not sure of the age of your little one, but it took a little bit of practice for her to understand that she needed to apply pressure to get it to vibrate.
