Great, just running down your list here are my thoughts:

An SMD Lunar Solo would be 10oz lighter and $70 cheaper while still offering similar features and roominess. Granted you'd need a trekking pole. Mine weigh 5oz each and cost $60 for the pair, and they're nice to have for stream crossings and up and downhills.

The $40 Soto Amicus stove outperforms the $34 Pocket Rocket 2 in every metric and is pretty similar to the $70 PR Deluxe.

I'm not a fan of sporks, and much prefer a spoon, your milage may vary. This 75 cent spoon is similar to what I have and it's lasted me 25 years. Mine weighs .38oz

You don't need a canister stand

When I've camped in the Mojave I just slept with my food in an Opsack. In Yosemite you'll need a bear can but you can probably rent one or wait to purchase for when the time comes. If you're camping in an area where a bear hang is recommended then you can get a pre-made bear bag kit or just make one with a stuff sack and some good throwing line.

I have some merino shirts but only wear them in the colder shoulder seasons because they're too warm for me when hiking in summer. They're also really pricey. You could get a $10 quick drying t-shirt like this, or a synthetic long sleeve collared shirt from the thrift store or a Silver Ridge, to protect your arms and neck from the sun and bugs.

How modest do you want to be with shorts? Ranger panties are popular for being so light and have a great range of motion. Generic soccer shorts work well. Patagonia Baggies are popular.

For a rain jacket it's hard to beat the Frog Toggs UL2 for price and weight. I went to my local walmart and tried them on to find a good size. ~$18

For long pants I'd suggest Body Wrapper dance pants. Light, cheap, breathable, comfortable, windproof, keep the bugs away, surprisingly warm when sitting around camp.

I don't bring sleep clothes, just sleep in my hiking clothes.

Med kit suggestions- leukotape strips on a quick release sheet for blister prevention and bandages, a few sterile gauze pads to make bandages with the leukotape, ibuprofen for pain and swelling, anti-diarrheal pills, small dropper of dr bronners soap for cleaning wounds

Things you're missing:

  • Pack liner (garbage compactor bag or nylofume)

  • Tent stakes (I like mini groundhogs)

  • Dirty girl gaiters for keeping rocks out of your shoes

  • Sunglasses

  • Stocking cap/beanie (maybe your buff will work for that?)

  • Lighter, swiss army classic knife with scissors and toothpick, toothbrush and toothpaste, anti-chafe cream like trail toes or diaper cream, sunscreen, purell, lightload towel

  • poop kit with trowel, tp, zip locks for used tp, or go the bidet route and use water instead of tp

  • a couple smartwater bottles

  • you may or may not like having an umbrella to stay cool or hike with your hood down in the rain.

Edit: a tip for lighterpack- there is a field for price and it'll add up the prices per category for you, making a running tally a little easier. there's also a link field which could maybe help you keep track of links to things you might want to buy.

Once you've dialed in the list a little better, if you discover you're way under your budget then you could always consider upgrading something, like spending $100 more for a 10oz zpacks Hexamid Solo tent. Also, if you end up at a light enough weight, you could jump to a 14oz frameless pack which would be awesome.

Omg haha, I have had my eye on these for awhile but am finally ballsy enough to put it on my list for this contest lol...

soooo sorry, idk how to make the links like you did, where it just shows a word rather than the huge long link...but yeah, these 3 items I would DIE for to be able to surprise my guy with lol, it'd either be super sexy or super hilarious, either way it's a win win!!!! Lol!!!

So ok, I have to pick team sequins, because it's a timeless sparkle and screams cheap but fun! I think my guy would love what I picked here, but hate? I'd say probly anyone stuck seeing me wearing it would hang their head in shame lmao...

The most ridiculous thing I've worn would most definitely have to be the electrical tape "outfit" I wore once to a rave...back in my thinner, younger days, i went to this rave thing with my late 1st husband, and we legit used black electrical tape...to make this strappy looking ordeal over my body...it was ridiculous, sexy as hell at a glance, but in the light, knowing it was 2 rolls of tape and some rhinestone stick-on stuff, it was pretty hilarious!

Well, let's deconstruct the look a little bit. Here's my guess on how to approach the costume:

  • Bodysuit: You need a black form-fitting bodysuit that you can airbrush all the sinew-like ripples onto. Depending on your budget, you can look at buying a unitard like this or sew your own. If you don't have airbrushing tools or can't afford them, you could also carefully sponge grey/silver paint onto the bodysuit, but regardless of application you should make a duct tape dummy of yourself first in order to have some fuller form to paint on. You'll probably need separate black gloves, since most bodysuits don't have built-in gloves.

  • Sleeves: Make sleeves that go to just below your elbow that you can pull up over the body suit to cover your arms, to make that sort of flared look at the wrists. You'll either need to find fabric that blends that way, or find a dark red fabric that you can bleach to get that gradient. If you want to go the bleaching method, /r/bleachshirts can give you tips on technique and safety.

  • Chest: Painted with a brush and fabric or acrylic paint, or even mildly diluted acrylic ink, depending on what effect you're going for.

  • Head: Papier mâché onto a large blown up balloon. Cut out eyeholes and possibly a mouth hole when it dries. Paint the whole thing black, then additionally cover the mask with black fabric that you can see through. That way, the fabric won't show the colour of grey newspaper underneath – it'll all be dark, and with care in construction people might not be able to tell there are even eyeholes. To make the silver trim, I would suggest some decent quality silver cardstock after you've covered the mask in fabric – that way, the cardstock can cover raw edges, and you can easily cut it out after attaching it.

  • Belt+skirt: You can make your own belt out of felt, faux leather, whatever you like. Your best bet might just be to find a few red belts though, and buy 4 suspender buckles. The first red belt can go around your waist, the second you chop up to make the X in the front. Then when you make the skirt, you can permanently attach it to the red belt that goes around your waist. I see the skirt is blue and red, so you might want to make that two layers (blue skirt atop red larger skirt), or one layer (sew blue atop red, or connect them).

  • Boots: Find some cranberry coloured (rain?)boots. Paint the stripes onto the boots. Then carve some medium- or high-density foam with the gear-tooth-like incisions (you can use scissors, an x-acto knife, or best of all, electric carving knife!), cover it with grey fabric, and glue it securely around the base of the boot. If you've picked up rain boots, you can cut the top of them to look like the shape it should be, and then cover the raw edges with dark grey/black foam tube shielding, or just plain black fabric.

  • The weapon?!: Crap, that's hard. That's going to be a lot of patient work with some combination of any of foamboard, papier mâché, a wooden dowel (to go straight through the entire thing and give you max stability), some custom cut chains from the huge selection at Home Depot, and if you can find it, a nice blue baubly fake jewel thing OR the largest cat craft eye you can find, OR half a transparent sphere, opened snow globe, or something. You can even go up to one of those machines that takes 25 cents or a dollar and get a toy from it, toss the toy, keep the round translucent casing it came in. If you end up finding a large transparent half sphere of sorts, paint the black cat pupil FIRST, let it dry, then paint the blue iris overtop. The sphere will make the colours glorious, without having had to paint the round outer part of the sphere at all.

These are just suggestions! Use what's right for you. Epic costume endeavour, good luck on it!

Wow I... don't have anything under $1.21 including shipping :( Well, I do, but it was already bought for me! So.... I'm not going to add anything, that feels like cheating someone out of something. So, the only cheap thingie I have is an mp3. Harry Potter was my childhood. I grew up reading the books and watching the movies... growing up alongside the characters was a pretty magical experience. John Williams has written for many of my favorite films and he made Harry Potter that much more incredible.

I also would like a gift card, as I'm saving up for this! Don't laugh. Pole dancing is the only exercise other than yoga that I like and I love how I feel when I do it. It'd be awesome to not have to do it in front of others because that often keeps me from going... as does how pricey classes are. This pole costs the same as SIX classes. Seven with shipping. A little ridiculous, yeah? But yeah, I want the pole so I can do it at home and get even more fit and maybe boost my self-esteem and body image :)

A different perspective: if you like wearing shorts but you also need protection for your legs, there are good options for individual problems:

SUN:

If you are just worried about sun protection, get some cheep cotton pajamas, bar non the best, most comfortable sun protection. Just dont expect these to provide warmth or dry fast. Also slow drying cotton is great for getting wet at a water source to keep you cool for you next miles.

Sun Protection in the Desert: https://www.amazon.com/CYZ-Womens-Cotton-Pajama-Pants-VoileSilverStripe-L/dp/B076F8TMRD/ref=sr_1_15?dchild=1&keywords=pajama+bottoms+cotton&psc=1&qid=1571767226&sr=8-15 $12.00

WIND:

https://www.amazon.com/Body-Wrappers-Ripstop-Pants-Black/dp/B0002UR7SQ/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=dance+pants+nylon&psc=1&qid=1571767509&sr=8-1 $18.00

Enlightened Equipment and Montbell make good ones too.

COLD:

Leggings/tights/long underwear. Pretty self explanatory, many many brands available.

https://www.amazon.com/Cuddl-Duds-ClimateRight-Underwear-Leggings/dp/B077T671HN $25.00

If your worried about scratchies / are doing a decent amount of bushwacking then your going to want some hiking pants like the author listed.

I have a fitness and fertility wishlist. Any of those things would be life changing. I'm on and have been on a mission since last September to get fit. I'm positive it will solve my fertility problems. I'm down 15 pounds but want to keep going and lose about 20-30 more.

EDIT- or this stripper pole I'm in love the sport and I feel like this would be an activity that I would love and would help me get fit.

I just want to be healthy and be able to conceive so badly.

Titanium Pot - 28 oz savings ($35)

Drop The mug, just use your pot - 4 oz savings (free)

Trowel instead of shovel - 16 oz savings ($20)

Drop the solar panel (doesn't really work well on the move) - 10-ish savings (free)

Sawyer Squeeze instead of Katadyn - 8 oz savings ($30)

Dance Pants instead of packed pants - 14 oz saved ($18) although you probably dont need these since you're wearing zip off pants

I would add a puffy to your clothing, it will get pretty cold - 10 oz gained (can be found on sale for $40)

Leave the extra shirts at home - 12 oz saved (free)

Just bring one extra payer of underwear and socks - 6 oz saved (free)

Leave campshoes at home - 23 oz saved (free)

I really don't know what the survival kit contains, but it can probably be paired down or eliminated

Don't know what the carabiners are for if you're hanging stuff outside your pack you're bringing too much - 4 oz saved (free)

Don't know what the tarp is for the sierras, you already have a tent

125 oz saved or almost 8 pounds. Coming in at a cost around $150.

I would start here and then look at replacing your bigger items. The easiest one to save the most weight would be your pack.

Hope this helps!

I'm a female in the bay as well and about your size.

I love my REI Flash 45! I just got it about a month ago and have taken it on one trip but I'm in love. Definitely check it out in the store and throw some of their weights in it. The price is nice as well!

These TNF shorts rock. I can't say enough good things about them. I think my thighs/butt are standard/athletic and the medium size that I have is definitely too big. They go up to XXL and they have short/regular/long inseam choices.

I carry the amazon dance pants as an emergency layer for hiking and for layering with my base layers at camp if it's chilly. Medium fits with room to spare.

Camp sandals! I just bought some Xero Shoes DIY Sandals. You will measure your feet to order the right size. I'm a size 8 normally. I cut the soles to size since I have less wide feet. I did a slightly heftier lace pattern. Total weight ended up being 148g. I'm pretty pleased with that. I haven't put them to the test yet though.

I should clarify I ordered unitards, so like bodysuit w legs.A simple black one, and this Grey one want to try them out for running, but also as a fashion thing. We’ll see what they’re like when they arrive! They just seem SO COMFORTABLE. I love the idea of a unitard and then an elaborate jacket or accessories over it!

What do you have already and what do you plan on buying?

When do you plan on starting? High/Low temps do you expect?

Some of this is repetitive, sorry. Also just my opinions, so use what's helpful, leave what's not.

It's much easier to see your gear if you make a Lighter Pack

If you can/haven't already bought, I would suggest a lighter weight sleeping bag or quilt. You can get a used bag or quilt in the 100-200 range. Sometimes even less if someone is starting out with MYOG (make your own gear). r/ULgeartrade and r/GearTrade as well as facebook gear trade groups are good places to look.

A better/warmer sleeping bag can also help you avoid needing the liner (for warmth at least).

I would take the 2 smart waters and leave the bladder.

I prefer wind pants to rain pants, particularly these Dance Pants

Knife and scissors generally do the same job, scissors are easier to use and the blade can be used like a knife.

My daughter does the same thing and wears the same size. We buy Gerber 4T onesies and cheap overalls and we just bought a bunch of biketards. All of them can be bought on amazon (links below). This will make changing the diaper more difficult, but at least your kiddo won’t be able to get into the diaper. I also find that the biketard snugness helps my daughter behave better in general.

We also bought some therapy compression shorts and pants, but you should always be sure to check with an Occupational Therapist before using true compression or weighted gear for your child. We bought ours through Kozie: https://www.kozieclothes.com/unisex-compression-shorts

Good luck! Know that you aren’t alone!

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00IV4KYBC

Looks like the price has gone up a bit since then, but I’d still buy it for that price I think. It’s thicker than other ones I’ve tried, warm enough, and holds its shape well. Also I like that it actually has a hole for the wrap part to loop through. I’ve had it about 2 years 👌

u/chrisbenson · 3 pointsr/Ultralight

You're welcome! Yeah, the place I linked to for those bottles- they also sell a lot of other small bottles that are great for repackaging other stuff, as well as odds and ends that can save you weight in other places.

Yeah, those are the pants I was talking about. You can get them at Amazon too. I know the waist looks goofy in the pics but it's a normal waist you'd find on any other wind pants, it's just tailored to ride high so a lot of people double it over a few times so it's not around your belly button. It's lightweight material so I don't think it would be too bad with a waist belt but I'm beltless so I can't say for sure.

I use a small xlite too in addition to the thinlight. When the ground is pokey the thinlight can protect the xlite. When it's cold I put the thinlight on top and it helps boost the warmth of the xlite. Sometimes I use the thinlight under my feet.

Tent: Six Moon Designs Lunar Solo

You and I are the same build, this is a very inexpensive, light, one pole setup and roomy tent, you + gear no problem, if bought off of backcountry.com during their 20% off sale it’s like $170-180

Wind pants:

These!

$20, 3.5 oz, you’ll want the medium

Trekking Poles: Cascade Mountain Tech Carbon Cork, $45 shipped on amazon

Torso warmth: Walmart> Climate right Cuddlduds fleece set $20 plus a down jacket from Uniqlo.

Pack is super personal, but anything from a 2016 Osprey Exos/ Sierra Designs Flex Capacitor/ ULA pack to a fancier Superior Wilderness Designs Long Haul 40 (definitely recommend based off of reviews here) or HMG (heard mixed things) will do the job.

These are amazing budget options, if you want to upgrade from here feel free but this stuff will handle the JMT no problem.

im an engineer and as a kid i loved toys that allowed me to use my imagination and that i could use for a long time because they were changable. many of my friends who went on to do robotics etc started with legos and then lego mindstorms (or similar) -- it started as a game, freeform. so i recommend this for Adela.

for Isla, she sounds like she has a lot energy so i thought this dress-up outfit would work for her for actual lessons and just for fun.

Body Wrappers Ripstop Pants (Black, Medium) - 701 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0002UR7RC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_lJpMDbPDZ6J2B

I bought these to wear commuting to an early AM February fun run. Had to wait in the corral for an hour+. These were great. Zero cold breeze got into my personal space. Not that breathable. I took them off to put in my running pack. They weigh about 3 ounces.

Also wore these during a snowy winter road trip over long johns. They were comfy walking around outside at ferry terminal.

I don't know what high intensity activity would feel like in them. But great for getting to and from your desired route.

How tall do you need? I got them from here on Amazon and they're great.

I'm 5'9" and got S/M and they fit me fine. If you're taller than that, M/L would probably fit you unless you're like 6'5" (they're pretty stretchy.)

Hello! We just launched a new dance board (made in the USA!) that improves upon what the turnboard offers.

The Turning Pointe can be used on carpet but the most exciting feature is that there is a relevé platform! This board is for dancers of all levels and really aids in getting you all the way to your pirouette goals. Also unique to the Turning Pointe is that it has a borderless design so it won't dig into your feet and it is make of completely solid, eco-friendly material making it the most durable board on the market!

You can learn more here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B072KJLV6K

Amazon. This one: http://www.amazon.com/Portable-Fitness-Exercise-Stripper-Spinning/dp/B005IPK7AU

I mean I really deliberated on getting this because it's not XPole but all the positive reviews along with the price convinced me.

Keep in mind that this off brand one doesn't come with a bag and it's also not bottom loading. I had 8" popcorn ceilings in my old place and it wasn't a hassle necessarily, but you do need a ladder or step stool or something. You would need one anyway to find the joists in your ceiling. Other than that I really can't tell the deference between mine and the official XPole ones my studio has.

Though Amazon does sell official XPoles as well, which I think I will be upgrading to soon. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B003HA9N7Q/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1422003687&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX200_QL40&dpPl=1&dpID=41tPdqmi6FL&ref=plSrch

If you are looking for very light weight, people speak highly of the ripstop dance pants, but I don't know how breathable they are. Nylon can be hot and clammy.
https://www.amazon.com/Rip-Stop-Pant-701BLKL-Black-Large/dp/B00L8W76Q0

Aliexpress has even lighter ones, but they are nearly transparent in the white version. In black, they are tolerable -- but still made of nylon, and not very breathable.

For breathability, the Columbia Silver Ridge pants are supposed to be pretty good. They now come in a stretch version, which should make for better mobility. Weight, 14 oz.

I am very interested in hearing what people consider warmest/lightest leg insulator. I hike in shorts and then sleep/chill at camp in pants. Right now I wear lightweight under armor tights (5.8oz) and prana zion pants (14.4oz) and I'm generally not warm enough sleeping sub 40*. I wanna trade that out for a windpant/leg insulator combo that will increase comfort and decrease weight. obviously ill shed the wind pant when I go to bed. Fleece pants? Thermal weight baselayer? My girlfriend's generic everyday leggings seem thicker than any men's baselayer...borrow and tuck? I'm a little apprehensive about down pants cause I might wear this layer under the windpant in rain. Can someone recommend a specific product that's super warm?

Get these instead: https://www.amazon.com/Body-Wrappers-Ripstop-Pants-701/dp/B0002UR7SQ

Sizing chart here: https://www.discountdance.com/dancewear/style_701.html

~3 oz, <$20, relaxed fit to layer over tights, dries super quick.

Wind pants > rain pants for most 3-season conditions because the heat generated by your legs hiking needs to vent somewhere, otherwise you're going to sweat & wet out anyways. Plus getting wet on your legs doesn't matter as much as your body core for warmth.

I will probably get grief for this but when I started I got this one, since I couldnt afford an x pole:Pole

It worked perfectly for 2 years and I still have it I just upgraded to an xstage lite so I could go outside and bring it places. Ive known many who used the brand and its pretty close to an x pole in sturdiness from my experience.

u/Seltiks911 · 2 pointsr/Ultralight

I didn’t find them baggy. I think the sizing came out pretty good. I do have another layer underneath at times.

I would say shoot for the large (it’s sized in woman’s)

I actually ordered both and tried on the XL first and just sent back the large and got my money back. Free returns

There’s actually a fair amount of “backpacking” “wind pants” reviews on the item

This is what I bought. I'm definitely going to take this advice into consideration! The reviews on it were great and that's why I went that route instead of buying the xpole.

I'm a fan of the ripstop nylon pants that dancing supply stores sell, like the ones at the link below. They're $15-20 for ~3.5 oz pants without any bells or whistles. Pmags did a great write up here: http://www.pmags.com/gear-review-discount-dance-supply-rip-stop-pants.

Those are really popular. I use these as a more budget friendly option. They weigh in at 3.5 oz.

Size reference - I'm 5'9" 140lb (women's pant size 4), the small fits great and the x-small would have easily worked too

u/shootsfilmwithbullet · 1 pointr/Ultralight

I used the amazon pair so often discussed here. I'm 6'2" with a 33" and the M fits me well. My friend is about the exact same size as me and the XL fits him well too so I don't think there's too much sizing difference. I'd go with an L or XL if I were you.

Hopefully someone can chime in but there are a pair of dancing pants thats are highly rated for the price. I'll see if I can find them.

EDIT: Looks like they are body wrappers. Some reviews on BPL.

These are great for the price, they might be 3 oz. in small (my XL are 3.4 oz IIRC)

Ok, for some reason I thought you had the equivalent of stripper poles set up with wires going between them. I guess it was the camera perspective.

Now that I think of it, a pair of these would probably work pretty well and give you a wider range of possible movements. Though they wont move in response to your strikes.

One last question --I saw this on amazon: http://www.amazon.com/X-Dance-Portable-Fitness-Exercise-Spinning/dp/B005IPK7AU/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1427842164&sr=8-4&keywords=xpole
I actually think I've heard a little bit about x-dance and their pole quality, but I was wondering if this would be a good alternate considering that it's much cheaper than xpole.

Dance pants on Amazon

Cheap and light plus they work well. If you don't like em then you're only out $15-20 rather than $100 for a name brand with essentially no weight difference. I have em, used em, love em. They're in my pack year round.

u/dianeruth · -1 pointsr/poledancing

If they each donate 20$ you can set up two of those cheap made in china poles.

http://www.amazon.com/Portable-Fitness-Exercise-Stripper-Spinning/dp/B005IPK7AU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1382679888&sr=8-1&keywords=pole+dance+pole

I have one that I got for $95 on ebay, and yeah they aren't perfect, they aren't an x-pole(in fact mine was labeled as a d-pole), but a beginner probably wouldn't know the difference anyways. It would make a huge difference to have a ~4:1 ratio instead of 11:1 if you think that you could finagle the funds.

If you are wondering my only negatives are that chrome would not be my first choice for finish and the finish came somewhat scuffed, but otherwise it's functionally the same as any other pole.

u/BrainSurgeryEngineer · 5 pointsr/Ultralight

I am in the process of trying different combos out. I got hiking pants that i can wear as 'kakhis' at work so as dual purpose was worth the investment as lunch hikes are more enjoyable. but they weigh A POUND! would never bring on a long multi night hike, instead shorts, tights, and wind pants [and for winter/snow I add M65 pants and fleece pants]. here is a pair from sidebar for $20 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002UR7PY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1&psc=1

u/caminoodle · 3 pointsr/Ultralight

I was looking for some dance pants as a (cheaper) replacement for wind pants, but I can't really find any that are available in Europe. Does anyone know of any brands/websites etc. available outside the US?

For reference, I think these https://www.amazon.com/Body-Wrappers-701-Ripstop-Pants/dp/B004BFGEA0 have been recommended here.

u/Nomeii · 3 pointsr/Ultralight

People here often recommend these dance pants. But I have no personal experience with them.

Either the Diva Cup or the stripper pole.

I'm a weird lady.

u/AMisbegottenDog · 5 pointsr/Ultralight

these guys . They're wind pants, cut down on the cooling you get from wind, trap a little heat on your legs. Mildly water resistant.

Oh well, [I guess I fucked up then. ](http://www.MegaBrand.com/ Portable Fitness Exercise Stripper Spinning Dancing Pole, 9.3-Feet https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005IPK7AU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_4EJVCbWD8JEDP) I'm sure that part of it is bad installation, but I'm willing to risk my personal health and possibly an embarrassing trip to the ER for this.

That's interesting, I thought about going to a class but I'm fairly embarrassed and not sure if I would want to do a bunch of them.
