okay, here we go. i've had some time to come up what i would want if i were you based on our common preferences.

sofa:
https://www.article.com/product/1170/ceni-volcanic-gray-sofa

http://www.overstock.com/8789758/product.html?selectedOption=12449219&detailsMoreExpanded=true

http://www.wayfair.com/Mid-Century-Modern-Style-Sofa-Red-Grey-Yellow-Blue-CAP15-3S-MHUS1046.html

i chose not to include a sectional. primarily because i don't think any exist for around $1,000, let alone any worth having.
personally, I've never been a big fan of them anyway. i feel like we can do better with our space; i feel with its sheer size, a sectional compromises that.

for the sofa i wanted to go with a grey, or charcoal. it's a great color to use as a canvas for everything else, as it's pretty neutral and can compliment basically anything and everything.

with the style i chose (mid-century modern) in a gray/charcoal couch, i'm using that as a platform in deciding the look what i want for everything else: clean, modern and minimalistic lines. contemporary atmosphere with minimal distractions. masculine. not-distractingly minimalistic, but warm and practical. something i won't be intimidated by. approachable, even.

most of all, affordable.

moving on. the coffee table.

http://m.target.com/p/coffee-table-black/-/A-15024766?lnk=fiatsCookie

https://www.allmodern.com/Millenial-Coffee-Table-gw-t13-il-FOXH1806.html

https://www.allmodern.com/Industrial-Coffee-Table-ZIPC1901-ZIPC1901.html

i like the industrial-esque look a solid board of stained wood has on steel. i was at target one day and happened to see that first coffee table and kind of... loved it. it's so simple. but masculine, and modern.
so i of course bought it (waited about a year though). turns out the MDF doesn't look all that great. so I'm in the process of actually building one myself with real wood to achieve a similar look. gotta say, being able to tell guests that i built the coffee table they're resting their beer on is gonna be kinda cool.

I've got an entire folder full of bookmarked diy plans and tutorials for more modern coffee tables of anyone is interested in going that route.

accent table:

http://m.target.com/p/cubby-accent-table-white/-/A-24015009

the black and brown in this end table will really compliment the coffee table. because that's what I'm interested in. complementing, not necessarily matching.
(just like in r/mfa, amateurs match. pros complement).

the end table i linked is pretty affordable but one could also build one or two (easily) of their own for the ultimate bragging points.

accent chair:

http://store.hermanmiller.com/Products/Eames-Lounge-Chair-and-Ottoman

lol just kidding (i wish).

since we're not millionaires, here are some options would go with your sofa and overall theme:

http://www.overstock.com/10074188/product.html

https://www.allmodern.com/Savannah-Fabric-Barrel-Chair-ZIPC2013-ZIPC2013.html

https://www.allmodern.com/Minton-Lounge-Chair-MCRR1324-MCRR1324.html

https://www.allmodern.com/Swan-Arm-Chair-FMI1140-FLNE1116.html

i like these chairs because they "go" with our selections so far without feeling like i picked out a living room set from a value furniture store during a memorial day sale.

bar stools:

i like these in either black or white:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00DT2JOOO?vs=1

i'd probably go with black since that's a common color in our selection so far. can be found cheaper in other websites.

rugs/art

oh boy. okay so here are my thoughts on rugs. shopping for these bad boys is a lot like shopping for art. you're told you need something because a floor without a rug is kind of like a wall without some kind of art. which, okay, makes sense.

so in my living room, i would want my rug and art to compliment each other, or at the very least not clash. that way everything comes together and feels intentional.

in my living room, we're using my girlfriend's rug that she loves. it's a flowery-one (of course) but with a nice, deep navy as its background. so on amazon i bought these plain untextured blackout navy curtains so all kinda comes together. as a bonus, no glare when watching maury!
see? so i guess i would want to achieve something similar with the art.

speaking of which: http://us.loveisartkit.com
that is going to be the next piece of art going up in our home.

art is personal. when you see something, and you really really really like it, bring it into your home. or make something yourself!

as far as the "theme" is concerned, since we're going with a contemporary vibe, abstract is king. so either get creative yourself (very easy Bf cheap to do) or go to a few local art student events and support those poor suckers with your money if you discover something that tugs at your heart's strings.

you'll know you made the right decision because it's going to be a reflection of your personality. kind of like.... our selection of furniture. know what i mean? if you're playful, get something playful and full on contrast. if you're a pimp, get something that reflects that.

picking a rug is a similar process. it's a base, or a platform, for everything else to rest on.

i don't know what your vision is for what you want down there. but here are my pics:

http://www.overstock.com/8283067/product.html
http://www.rugsusa.com/rugsusa/rugs/rugs-usa-trellis/Charcoal/200HJHK02A-76096.html

http://www.rugsusa.com/rugsusa/rugs/colonial-mills-portico-braided/Nautical/108PO59-13013.html

http://www.rugsusa.com/rugsusa/rugs/loloi-ao-01/Denim/176AO01DE-36056.html

it can be trippy and fun, complicated geometrical patterns, simple, whatever. I'm kind of a minimalist so i like simply patterns and textures. just make sure that whatever you pick doesn't clash with everything else you have going on

bonus: lamps.

this is my absolute favorite lamp in the entire world:

http://www.worldmarket.com/product/mobile/loden-arc-floor-lamp-base.do

target also has some affordable arc-lamp options. i think arc lamps go brilliantly with a modern "vibe" and they're so cool!

another one:
http://www.wayfair.com/Sophia-81-Arch-Floor-Lamp-LGLY2360-LGLY2360.html

ikea has some pretty neat affordable options, both floor and for tables.

i could go on and on and on for all of the possibilities. let me know if any of this was helpful

Hey there! Some ideas to ponder:

  1. I love the idea of mixing in some warmth in the kitchen with the stools to help tie things together, but I also love the clean lines in there. So maybe something like this in clear so you have the warm wood but it's not too obtrusive to the eye lines or something more like these to keep the black tones while still preserving some of the view.

  2. I would definitely try a more substantial bookcase in that corner, something along the lines of this standalone unit or a wall-mounted unit like this , depending on what fits your dimensions & budget. And for the chair, I think you're right to think leather. There are some classic textures and lines here that really blend well with the modern, so something with this style , although if you wanted to play up the mid century vibes of your couch, this chair in the sienna color would be awesome.

  3. For throw pillows, I usually look to tie in wall art colors. Since you don't have much (but I do recommend integrating some!), I would go with something relatively inexpensive for now to try out how much color you want to integrate. If you want to dip your toes in, introduce some color with a little pattern like this or this with lots of pattern but relatively neutral colors. I definitely think of throw pillows as a way to infuse some personality into a room, so make sure they feel like a good fit for you! I like Society6 because they're relatively inexpensive and easy to switch out if I'm jus not feeling something, but just beware that they tend to start pilling a bit after a year or two. And a helpful tip: always check to see if they're shipping a pillow or just the cover. You might have to order some pillow inserts on Amazon.

  4. Fiddle-leaf figs are the go-to potted tree for a lot of people, but I find them to be a bit finicky. I'd recommend a rubber tree or even amother-in-law tongue (also known as a snake plant, I believe). There are things like this all over Pinterest if you need some ideas for what will work best for you.

As far as the any other reccs, I'd just stress adding some textiles. A throw blanket on the couch (or chair!) and maybe a runner in the entryway.

All that being said, your place looks absolutely awesome and the transformation is GOALS.

    I hope this helps!
u/OklaJosha · 2 pointsr/malelivingspace

cool place! that colored wall pleasantly surprised me as I was going through.

Few suggestions:

  • Barn light over the countertop/kitchen. You could maybe even put two there. A red one like this would tie into your accent wall.

  • bench for shoe storage by the door. just measure the space & make sure you find one to fit.

  • Get a throw pillow that has some red to match your accent wall. It can be a solid color or a design you like.

  • For the wall behind the couch, under the window, grab a skinny sofa table & put some plants on that. They should get plenty of light there!

  • the bar stools don't really match with the rest of your style. These metal industrial style ones are super popular. No-back or back

  • Wall sconce replacement by the front door. you could do two of these there.
u/PhysicallyTheGrapist · 2 pointsr/drums

Unless you can find a great sale (and I've seen some steals on new drum sets before, especially on Amazon), I think buying used is probably your best bet, especially with a $1000 budget. Also, you may want to spend a large portion of your budget to buy high quality cymbals from the start. Keep in mind that drums can always have their heads changed and also be tuned, whereas there is very little that can be done to change the sound of a cymbal. In my experience, the most common and affordable "pro" level cymbals are Zildjian A's if you are buying used.

Additionally, everyone here seems to recommend buying the best seat (which is referred to as a "throne" for some damn reason...) that you can afford. Popular choices are Pork Pie and Roc-N-Soc. Personally, I use something that isn't sold as a drum throne - this work stool.

Finally, are you a totally inexperienced drummer? I recommend just a practice pad and pair of sticks to start. It's certainly much cheaper, lol.

u/wunderk8 · 2 pointsr/InteriorDesign

Congrats on your new place! Sounds like you are going for a modern style. Maybe a small table and bar stools? I live in a bungalow home and use a little table like this and adjustable stools like this as a breakfast bar. You said your apt is modern so it might go nicely with your place & is a good price point if you don't want to invest in a big table.

In another comment you mentioned mounting your TV to a wall. Alternate suggestion is to get a projector screen and roll it up and down to make your space feel larger.

If you need more kitchen storage you could hang your pots on a rack or do a magnetic knife holder and spice jars.

Please update and show us how you arranged it!

u/RWTD_Burn · 1 pointr/Arcade1Up

Congrats on your first Cab. The Final fight cab is my family's favorite so far as there are games that each of us can enjoy. I definitely recommend a riser. With it my kids are at a great height for it (9 and 13) but for me at 6'1 it's still a bit short. I'm also looking for stools.

Personally for the style I like, they are actually similar in prcie to the arcade1up so I'm not sure which I'll get yet.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0035XUAKY/ref=sbl_dpx_B00DL3JIDS_

These are a cheaper option but to me they look it as well.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002QM93BC/ref=sbl_dpx_B00DL3JIDS_0?th=1

I really haven't found a cheap option that looks good. Perhaps others have.

u/theleverage · 3 pointsr/vancouver

People always say this but I've never seen them be price competitive on anything. I searched for "Bar stool" and clicked the "Sale Bar Stools!" section and found:

u/marvinthedog · 3 pointsr/oculus

If you put it on a motorized spinning platform you would be able to turn. It would probably be pretty slow turns and without strafing but still very immersive. It would be great for walking simulators like for instance The Solus Project or The Vanishing of Ethan Carter.

A cheaper option could be a spinning chair with pedals, something that looked similar to this: https://www.amazon.com/VINTAGELIVING-Industrial-Vintage-Footrest-Adjustable/dp/B07CQGSJGH

u/jenOHside · 2 pointsr/rheumatoid

that might work for her, but to me it doesn't really look like restful sitting. I like my sturdy stool because I can lean back and rest my full weight, or pull my legs up with me. I really need to rest my spine and core muscles, I feel like if I slumped back in that chair I'd fall backwards. I mean, the model doesn't even look comfortable in that picture.

I would go for something like this https://smile.amazon.com/Modern-Adjustable-Synthetic-Leather-Chairs-Sets/dp/B00GV28VBQ/ref=sr_1_6?s=furniture&ie=UTF8&qid=1481742167&sr=1-6&keywords=stool&th=1

u/the_chols · 1 pointr/DJs

I picked it up for free at a moving sale. Interestingly enough, one just like it was in a venue closet I did a bridal shower at. Came in handy since I happened to forget mine that day :)

Here is a close match I found on Amazon: Trademark Gameroom Black Cushioned Folding Stool, 24". $14 and it's Prime.

u/ASignalFlare · 1 pointr/malelivingspace

I just moved and the sofa I have needs to go. I don't have a place for the desk other than the living room so it can stay in its current spot or I can move it against the wall where the cabinets end. I've included some pictures and the floor plans.

If I keep the desk where it is, I was thinking about getting a small love seat. If I move the desk against the wall I would get a small sectional sofa.

I believe I need a area rug and a coffee table as well. Or will this crowd the room too much? If so can anyone recommend ones that will fit in with this room. The TV stand may also need an upgrade. It was just a cheap solution to get me by at my last apartment. I am just looking to setup a living room that is functional in the small space I have.

I am near an IKEA so I defiantly will give them preference for furniture. What I currently have is listed below:

  • Hendrix Desk New version linked, the one I have they are not selling. Referenced for its dimensions. I got this at a Crate & Barrell outlet store for next to nothing. Had to fix the tracks in the drawers.

  • 3x Twist End Table

  • Tustin Lounge Chair and Ottoman Set I have one of these, not sure if I can incorporate it into the room or not. (Not pictured).

  • Sofa Came with the wrong legs and bolts. Never would purchase anything from Coaster Fine Furniture again.
u/feltypenny · 1 pointr/HomeImprovement

She found the stools on a fb yard sale page but we’re pretty sure that these are the same ones . I think she found the pendants at Lowe’s or Home Depot but I can’t say for sure.

u/[deleted] · 2 pointsr/malelivingspace

My original thoughts are that black might make it too dark? Perhaps brown or grey would be a better fit? Strongly considering these types of barstools below

https://www.amazon.com/Leopard-Adjustable-Swivel-Stools-Hydraulic/dp/B01JYVJ2VI/ref=zg_bs_3733851_2?_encoding=UTF8&refRID=9M8WG8GEQVVA9MB2K1YQ

u/LateClaim · 2 pointsr/malelivingspace

Something like this, the brown leather would really pop against the white and grey.

I'm also a big fan of some like these.

u/2Fab4You · 12 pointsr/gatekeeping

Yep, I'm actually pretty certain the person bought these and painted the logo on them.

u/DJHX · 2 pointsr/cade

Thank you. I found them on Amazon. It wasn’t easy to find this specific style. Here’s a link to the blue version: Richardson Seating 0-1971BLU... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XWCY8BC?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

u/capnarrr · 2 pointsr/cade

Unless you have only one type of machine, get something you can raise and lower, like a cheap pneumatic one.

I got a few of these from target years ago when they went on sale. I like the solid base as well. It's really a personal preference more than anything, though.

u/BuckyDog · 1 pointr/hometheater

I am all for building speaker stands if you are handy. However, I have also used bar stools for years as speaker stands. As a matter of fact, I used to have the same exact system / speakers you have (Logitech Z5500) and used bar stools for the speaker stands around my computer.

I am using these now:

Bedroom Stereo, 24 Inch: http://amzn.com/B0094G373I

Media Room, Side Speakers, 29 Inch: http://amzn.com/B0094G36TS

They are very stable and you can use them with larger speakers later if needed - or as bar stools.

u/monkeyjay · 5 pointsr/pics

Spoiler in case anyone thinks it actually is a stripper pole: it's likely a stool.

Probably something like this
