Looks like the mattress we got has gotten cheaper, here's the frame and the mattress

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071JGCBH8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_Ee1QDbXME56RQ
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07QKJTQBQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_.f1QDbFZB95Y8

Being in your late 20s and living with 2 girls you might want to have the queen for when their friends come over 😉 plus the price is right around what you were thinking! With this frame you don't need a box spring.

Dishes suck for sure but I can tell you that 25-30 bucks at dollar tree (couple mugs, few glasses, few plates, few bowls, and a few sets of silverware) and a minute or two of your time to load your dishes as you use them will definitely be a better habit to get into. I tried the plastic everything once upon a time, and taking the trash out all the time is more annoying than doing the dishes in the long run. Plus it's a lot more attractive to potential mates to have real plates and no flies buzzin around cause paper plates got left in the trash too long haha.

Also, I would say you don't need to be extremely generous, but definitely contribute where you can and don't be stingy about helping out with the necessities!

It all depends one what you want in a place and what style you’re looking for.

Your biggest issue to simply put it, it looks like a room of a 14 year old. This is for a variety of reasons. What I’m going to say obviously will include my taste, which you may or may not like.

  • Those masks on the wall. Take them down and put them out of view from anyone. They are tacky.
  • The “Can’t Even” sign is tacky, take that down also.

-Your posters look awful to be frank. I think those are beyond framing even. You also have a bad number, it’s too much and not enough. Some people make a whole wall of posters which looks good, some people have just 2 in frames and that looks alright. You have a bad number and they look beaten up. What I would do instead is take them all out of view, get one really big painting or a really big poster that you like and frame it. A big canvas you like would be pretty nice as well. On the left wall. Maybe the right also. Can probably keep the clock but hang it better.

  • You need something to get your mattress off the floor. Shit even a couple of pallets under it or something. Pallets you can get cheap compared to a bed frame. Also your bedding/sheets/comforter look like a 14 year olds. Get a solid bold color for sheets, pillowcases, comforter. Don’t have mix matched stuff. Boom. Bed/Mattress situation fixed.

  • Notice the top of literally everything you could put something. It’s all cluttered. Every surface. My suggestion would be get a smaller dresser, and a small bookshelf for the stuff on all the surfaces. The dresser you have is missing a knob anyways. On your new dresser, the only thing that should be on the surface is accessories/cologne/a picture of family.

-I personally dislike that desk very much. Get a different one.

    -Cable management

-Get a cactus or some kind of easy managed small plant.

-Get you a new backpack that doesn’t look like a 14 year olds.

I know I mentioned get a few things, if money is an issue, look at Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist. If you’re in college I guarantee you there are plenty of new grads selling stuff on the cheap. Barely used and matching stuff.

My thing is your place doesn’t look masculine at all. It looks like a teenage boys room. And I know you’re in college, but that’s my opinion. Of course, this is my personal taste.

Edit: Absolutely get rid of that color disco ball. And I assume that is a speaker/sound system is what’s below it. It’s much too big for your space. Get a better, more compact one, and put it on aforementioned bookshelf.

    Edit:

here is a bed frame for cheap

here is a link to cheap twin sheet sets

Your budget is not bad, but, I would recommend you go down a size to full size in order to get something better.

To start out, you will need a foundation to place the mattress on.

This full size one is 85 dollars shipped: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ENRBD8O

On a 300 dollar budget, that's 215 left over for a good mattress that will last you 5-8 years.

For the mattress itself, at your price point, coils are always a better deal than foam. There might be places that will sell you memory foam or regular foam mattresses, but those will start wearing out much quicker than a coil mattress.

So for about 200 bucks, you can easily get a decent full size mattress.

Specs to look out for are as follows:

8" Thick Coils - Anything less than around 8" means that you're more likely to bottom out and wear out faster. Make sure to get Medium Firmness, Soft coils won't last long at this price point, Firm coils are actually about 100 bucks more. You can actually feel them through the side. Image: http://i.imgur.com/AKuEW1u.jpg

About 1/2" to 1" High Density Foam - Usually at about 2.0Lbs to 2.5" Lbs density rating. This is usually found on the mattress spec sheet, a lot of internet retailers lie about this, btw.

Done.

If you want to add additional padding, get a duvet cover.

u/partisan98 · 1 pointr/DIY

Strong storage beds that are strong are gonna be hella pricey. You need to reinforce from frame to floor not just frame or the bed will start to wobble and eventually fall. It is like standing on a cheap table the top will probably not break but the legs might snap.

Honestly i would recommend one of these frames. Its $60 and 14 inches off the ground so you can fit an entire laundry hamper under there.

I suggest buying this a $10 bed skirt and some large containers for organization. I have a queen size version of this that has a full sized laundry hamper and 3 large tupperware containers under it. They are holding my winter bedding and all my winter clothes like my jackets, gloves, boots ect.

u/morgf · 3 pointsr/Mattress

I'd say that qualifies more as a cot than a bed frame. It looks like it is made to support a cheap, thin padding layer, not a quality mattress. If you must use it, you should probably get a slab of plywood to put on it before putting a mattress on.

Ideally you should get either a slatted bed frame (where the spaces between the slats is less than 3-in) for example:

http://roomdoctor.com/shop/platform-beds/plateau-platform-bed/

or else you need both a steel support frame like this:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00EYN1NK0/

and on top of that a foundation like this:

https://usboxspring.com/product/natural-wood-foundation/

u/misslion · 2 pointsr/Mattress

I came across this one when I was doing my own search. I ended up opting for something else, but it should fit the requirements.

Unrelated, but most bed in a box companies are...not great. You want to find something with more quality materials if you're looking for something good.

u/MadtownMaven · 1 pointr/askwomenadvice

Do you have a box spring or is it on wood slats?

If you have a box spring with your mattress, this type of very basic frame works well They fold up really small for moving and are very easy to set up. It's the type I have on my bed and the type a friend had on her bed when I helped her move a couple weekends ago.

They also attach easily to most head boards. A metal headboard like this attaches with just a couple bolts and nuts I have a very similar one and it's very easy to move. You'll notice on the bottom of this upholstered headboard at the bottom of the posts there are two holes. Those holes will line up with the metal bed frame listed above and connected with bolts and nuts.

u/friendlycatkiller · 7 pointsr/financialindependence

But can you keep a boyfriend or girlfriend with that set up? You should definitely buy a $100 bed frame off amazon, I love mine. Check out the Zinus brand. I mean a decent bed seems like a very important piece of life..

So a few things to share from my own story that might help you.

We had our first three years ago and we jumped in with the convertible crib. It is the standard crib->toddler->full size config. We intended on using it as his forever bed... We didn't though for two reasons.

1: the cribs usually don't come with the rails you'll need for the final bed conversion. For my model (and most others from what I can tell) that rail system was $150. On top of needing a mattress, bedding, etc, the cost of the frame seemed a little steep.

2: I got pregnant with number two. Ended up needing a crib for her, and after finding a $30 full size frame at a nearby reclamation store the decision to reuse the crib was a no-brainer.

A few other things that helped us make that call and keep costs down:

We refinished both the crib and the bedframe for the cost of about a dozen cans of spray paint.
We found a cheap full matress and an equally cheap flat boxspring replacement style frame (to keep the bed low and 3yo accessible). Links to both for reference:

Linenspa 8 Inch Memory Foam and Innerspring Hybrid Matrress - Medium-Firm Feel - Full https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IU6RN9G/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_rvV4CbHJ4VDK1

Left me enough budget to splurge and get nicer sheets and duvet for my son's new bed. 😁

u/Integrals · 2 pointsr/explainlikeimfive

We ended up pulling the trigger on the Leesa sometime last night.

Glad a slatted base is OK, we just went the Amazon route of:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00M16A1M8?th=0

With the option to buy a backboard later.

Platform beds seemed awesome but super expensive and I don't know how I would get one up the stairs!

u/AlexTakeTwo · 2 pointsr/AskWomen

That's why I've been putting it off. My friend recommended this frame, which was really surprisingly not expensive. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00M2OYYJA/_encoding=UTF8?coliid=I15SG88E6CZFW0&colid=2T9UKCUJWOGT9 even in king size. And then the headboards I want are under $200, so that leaves the mattress as the most expensive part, and at least thanks to this frame I won't need box springs. :D Still definitely a post-summer expense, though.

u/carsncrypto · 2 pointsr/mazda

You've probably got 50% more usable room than I do then lengthwise. If it doesn't fit as is, I recommend making a platform and making it fit. It's pretty dirt simple. I used one of these, unbolted the two halves, ratchet strapped them back together with 1 section of overlap (to shorten the platform), and built some stands to keep it elevated over the chairs. There's plenty of storage space under the bed, too. The entire thing collapses for storage by just loosening the ratchet straps, which lets the contraption fold freely. It can also easily be broken down into halves by completely removing the straps. Either way takes <1 minute.

Let me know if it works out and I hope you have that awesome vacation :).

u/TheLawIsi · 2 pointsr/DaveRamsey

I recently bought a queen mattress 300$ in a box on amazon. When you can save for it, a very cheap permanent option.

Edit: found a cheaper option and throw it on the floor eventually you will upgrade to a box spring honestly most people give these away for free on FB marketplace) and eventually a 40-80$ metal frame off facebook marketplace

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IU6RQW0/ref=twister_B07RD872XN?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

When you have cash amazon for mattresses is AFFORDABLE. Plus you don't need a truck.

u/Viewsaurus · 1 pointr/sex

A twin bed is not embarrassing at all, since you are in college, and it can fit two people, but it's obviously not ideal. If you or the person you bring home are a bit larger, it's going to be a tight squeeze. I'm over 6 feet tall, so I don't fit in a twin bed with another person. When I started having girlfriends and hookups, the first thing I did was replace my twin bed with a full size. I would only advise keeping the twin bed if you have severely limited space or a lack of full/queen size beds available in your area.

You can probably get a cheap/free full or queen size bed on Craigslist. If you can only find the mattress/boxspring set, the actual bed frame you want is just a standard no-frills frame (no headboard or anything fancy), which will cost about $40 new at a department store or may be available free or super cheap on Craigslist. Here's one on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B015IHMK5C/ You don't need to go buy a new bed at a mattress store or anything. A lot of these things, as well as sheets and whatnot, are also available at thrift stores.

So yeah, it's okay to have a twin bed, but you can and probably should get a bigger bed with little or no financial investment.

u/Dehno34 · 1 pointr/personalfinance

My wife and I bought this mattress and this bedframe in January and we love it. You can be in a nice bed for a few hundred bucks.
You can't afford anything fancy that you think you need, and a bed is not an emergency.

u/val319 · 2 pointsr/Mattress

I would consider nicely laid out wall art, a different lamp, and camouflage for the garbage bin. I like your desk and your white shelves. Get some bedding that looks nice. Maybe once you've selected wall-art there will be a colour that pops, and you could get a throw pillow or two in that colour. Consider a cover for the box springs. I threw out my box springs a few months ago, and got one of these: https://www.amazon.com/Zinus-Platform-Support-Mattress-Foundation/dp/B071CLSZ9R/ref=sr_1_17?s=furniture&ie=UTF8&qid=1527258895&sr=1-17&keywords=zinus+bed+frame

u/WPeachtreeSt · 1 pointr/malelivingspace

First of all, you really don't want to spend a great deal on time on an air mattress. Here's the absolute cheapest, semi decent looking bedframe I could find: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071JGCBH8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_nwHQDbXYFMMMD. Here's a cheap matress with decent reviews: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005G5RZIY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_uAHQDbG5RQ2R3. Here's a cheap set of sheets/comforter: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Mainstays-Indigo-Plaid-8-Piece-Bed-in-a-Bag-Bedding-Comforter-Set-Full/49909351?selected=true

Nest, throw away the bottles/cans. Eventually, you'll want better quality stuff. But this should last until you're on your feet. If this is your first apartment, the next sets of items you'll need are cleaning supplies, plates and utensils, a plunger, towels, cooking supplies, a first aid kit, and a tool set. After, go to IKEA and pick out a plant and some cheap decorations, a bookshelf for your books, and a rug.

u/IrunI5 · 3 pointsr/BuyItForLife

Get this: https://www.amazon.com/Zinus-Platform-Mattress-Foundation-Assembly/dp/B01M1D27YO

It's a metal bed frame, wooden slats, very easy to assemble and remove. Zero squeeks, heavy duty.

It's sized such that those large tote bins fit easily under the bed.

u/Nuevex · 1 pointr/Vive

I bought this set here from Amazon. Set includes both manual and video step-by-step instructions.

My dad is a carpenter so I was able to get all the lumber and tools from him. There are probably cheaper sets but this one had the greatest reviews that vouched for its quality and reliability.

u/AdonisChrist · 1 pointr/rva

Amazon.

I've bought this sucker twice, the second time after a fire ruined the first.

If you've got Prime it's free two day shipping. Comes all compressed and rolled up in a ~18x18xlength of mattress box and you just let it out and it decompresses into a really nice mattress.

Just make sure you have a bed frame with wood slats or a metal one like this.

u/TheSoup05 · 1 pointr/Mattress

Looks like you could get this one and also not have to worry about a box spring. A friend of mine was looking at it, don’t think he bought it yet though.

u/AngryDemonoid · 2 pointsr/LifeProTips

We got a Linenspa. We have only had it a month or so, but so far it is really nice. I was a little worried about the thickness since I'm heavier (230lbs), but I haven't had any issues with it. It's definitely a step up from our 20 year old innerspring. I don't expect it to last all that long, but, for the price, I could buy one every year for the next 10 years for the price of some regular mattresses.

LinenSpa 8" Memory Foam and Innerspring Hybrid Mattress, Full https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IU6RN9G/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_EyDJAbD40F02B

u/swiftcock · 2 pointsr/vandwellers

Don't know what you call fiber board, but the one I know is heavier than plywood, not by much, but heavier. The problem with wood is not the weight but the volume. If i build a steel bed frame being conscious about the weight and compare it to a similar one (by weight) made of wood, the steel one would bend/flex more easily than the wood one, but it would take less space.

Take for example this bed frame, a similar one made out of wood would be bulkier, and maybe even stronger considering how your average vandweller(myself included) uses 2x4 for everything and cheaper.

For panelling I was considering using sheets of plastic instead of the usual 1/8" plywood but decided against because of the price and weight.

If you are smart about designing your wood interior you can make a pretty sturdy build without much added weight, but it takes time, and trial and error to get it right, while slapping some 2x4 together with some 2" wood screws is faster.

u/the_purple_piper · 2 pointsr/BuyItForLife

i bought this frame on amazon about a year ago for $50, & it's been great. i took the headboard from my old wood frame & attached it directly to the wall.

These things are the way to go! My house is tiny with a super narrow staircase so I couldn't even move in a full size box spring. Ended up messing around with pallets, etc., but the wood would splinter and pierce my mattress, or slide around and I'd wake up with my feet in the air and my head near the floor. Really the pallets got incredibly annoying.

Ended up buying something like the person above posted, except you can find ones where the "box spring" is included. That's not the exact one I own, but if you shop around, I used the keywords "collapsible bed frame box spring".

Also really convenient for moving since it comes in a giant box and just folds right up. Only took me 15 minutes to drunkenly set up.

Don't use a solid material as it will retain moisture and grow mold. Humans sweat a LOT.

Just install a regular slatted bed frame. It's lightweight and inexpensive.

Like /u/turbotaco22 I went with a Zinus 14" or 16" (preferred) metal frame off Amazon and hid everything underneath with a good bedskirt.

I bought this one and this headboard but unfortunately they don't connect very well. I had to use metal zip ties to attach the headboard to the frame.

Underneath I use these Ikea bins to store my stuff .
