I want to get a 24" BMX for cruisin' around, no tricks or anything. I'm currently cruising around on a standard 20", and I wanna upgrade. Like i said, I don't plan on doing anything extreme, just cruising. I was looking online, Amazon has a few listed under $300 like this one for example: https://www.amazon.com/Mongoose-Title-Boys-Freestyle-Bike/dp/B07G3RVN6V/ref=pd_ybh_a_3?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=N6HVYVBZZ5XYEQZ4J1QX but im not sure about it's quality. I know I don't need a top of the line bike, as I'm just a casual cruiser, but I want to know I'm getting something decent.
As far as price range, I'd like to keep it around $300ish or below, simply because I'm a pretty casual rider, and I'm not looking to sink a bunch of cash into something that I'm just gonna putt around on. That being said, I do like owning nice shit, and I can afford something in the $500-$600 range if i want, I just don't think that would be necessary for someone like me.
Also, what sprocket size do i want? I went to my local bike shop and was browsing and a some of them had a standard size BMX sprocket (at leas to my casual eye), while others had little bitty ones. What should I get? What price range should I be looking at? The one i like at my local shop is like $320 for a Haro 24" with standard sprocket and big fat street tires (which i like). Should i pull the trigger, or grab something online?
with that price range , i would look around for a used bike that is fully chromoly , any thing new in that price range will most likely be really shit and not last more then 2 months in my experience
the only bike brand new that i would even buy in that range would be
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GNDMK4W/ref=twister_B07KD87Z4F?_encoding=UTF8&th=1
yes it says boys bike but the stats don't lie
its 21 inch top tube , its full 4130 , its double wheeled rims , and as long as your just starting out it should hold you over

i been downvoted for posting a mongoose before but this is a crazy good entry bike
here is a good youtube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tzinE6PqKQk&feature=youtu.be

things that will wear fiirst
grips , tires , chain , pedals

everything else is really nice . its not a wethepeople or cult , but its a fucking great bike don't let tell you its nice

I'm very out of touch with how tall children are it seems.
At 4'11 you would want a 19.5 or 20" bike, but since it seems like she might not be done growing of course... Could just get a 20.25 or 20.5. Which works out for your wallet since these are on sale:

Another option to up the value per dollar is the Mongoose Legion series: https://www.amazon.com/Mongoose-Freestyle-Beginner-Featuring-Available/dp/B07GN67DVQ/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=mongoose%2Blegion&qid=1556675037&s=gateway&sr=8-4&th=1
The L60 is 20.5 and has cool colors with pink grips if that's her thing. And if you really want to future proof your purchase at the expense of correct sizing now you can go for the L80 which has the most chromoly of all these options so that's nice, but it's 20.75 frame so made for people between 5'5 and 5'9.
I think the Kinks on sale would be the best option, unless she visually prefers the colors of the Mongoose L60, which is 20.5 like the Eastern bike. The Kinks are 20 flat and 20.25
basic low end racing bike. Make sure you figure out the size you need. The 24" is cheaper but heavier. Might want to go to the track and see what size bikes girls around your age are ridding. Good luck. https://www.amazon.com/Mongoose-Title-Boys-Bicycle-Silver/dp/B074L7XBBC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1525998982&sr=8-1&keywords=mongoose+title
This is legit. The best bike for the price. https://www.amazon.com/Mongoose-Legion-Wheel-Freestyle-Black/dp/B01LW44X4K use every part they give you till it wears out then and only then upgrade it. My friend has this. First the go where the grips. Then the times and the chain everything else is lasting. When you buy new tires. Buy 100psi and run high 80s. And if you don't run brakes I'll buy your lever and brake arms /cable.
The mongoose L100 is this bike, i don't even think walmart sells it, but yes it would be a much better bike then the framed.
Mongoose legion l80 might be a good choice, unless shes a generally tall girl. https://www.amazon.com/Mongoose-Legion-Freestyle-Bike-Blue/dp/B074L2YCVH?th=1 This is under your budget, and objectively better than really anything else new in that price range. Shorter toptube than the l100 so if shes the average height for a girl, it'll fit her.
Ah, I see. So, a little smaller than a 1/4". Do you think a 20" BMX bike would have that type of hubs? Something like this:
https://www.amazon.com/Mongoose-Boys-Legion-Bicycle-Blue/dp/B074L3GXHJ/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1549476983&sr=8-5&keywords=20%22+bmx+bike
Granted I only did a cursory check of legit parts prices on amazon, but they seem to be the exact same prices that you’d find on BMX specific sites. And most of the time amazon is just a storefront for other smaller shops that can’t afford a distribution network.
For instance this bike is actually sold by this shop.
Full chromo frame, chromo fork and bars, and double wall rims

The 2019 is $279 the 2020 has upgraded wheels and cranks i think
Not under $400, but at least under $600:

the current year model is way more expensive. the one I posted is 2011
Any opinions on this bike then? Framed Attack LTD BMX Bike Mens Sz 20in/20.5in Top Tube https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IA4UE7G/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_ysauybA8V3SNS
After hours of researching this seems like a good bike. I may need new pesals on it cause some people had problems with them.
Ok downvote me but at least know what you are talking about first. Check this https://www.amazon.com/Mongoose-Freestyle-Featuring-Multiple-Available/dp/B07NQX45MT
See that ring between the handlebars and the frame? That lets the brakes function while you can spin the handlebars around as many times as you want with no problems.
