(Part 2) Reddit mentions: The best candles

Fun, thanks for hosting the scavenger hunt!

1. Something Blue: These journals are so beautiful, and I just thought I would start the scavenger hunt out with something simple and beautiful. Is that too corny of a reason to put them on here?
   
2. Summer: Summer reminds me that I will soon be in a place with sun constantly radiating down and burning my retinas. We're all gonna need some sunglasses.
   
3. Unusual Food-Related Item: Kawaii Squishies are super cute, smell like freshly baked bread (or cream soda), and are shaped like foods! I had a lot of wiggle room with this category, and while I have tons of things about food in my WLs, I just think these are great to pass out to stressed friends, as well.
   
4. Gift Someone Else: A Bidet for the Fiancé Kind of a silly one, but my fiancé loves bidets. I've always wanted to get him one, and so this is my ultimate "I love you" gift for him. I actually thought about getting it for him and calling it his engagement ring, in response to the one he just got me. Do you think it would make him laugh?
   
5. Book!: The book Lab Girl by Hope Jahren has gotten a lot of great press, and it seems very relevant to any woman in a demanding science-related field. I think it would be an interesting, and hopefully inspiring, read.
   
6. Less Than a 1$: Somehow this shampoo brush is only $.01? Is that real?
   
7. Related to Dogs: I haven't owned a dog since my family's golden retriever, Max. He was such a wonderful light in our house, and I think about him a lot. I know that GSD are really smart, so I figured I'd put something a smart-alecky GSD owner might have on here. ;)
   
8. Not Useful, But Awesome: I really love oracle cards. I find that they sort of get me past challenges that maybe I'm too stubborn to see for myself. I think they are a good psychological tool, but I also know most people would find them less than useful. Therefore, they are mostly just awesome, and I want them.
   
9. Great Movie: I get some flak for it, but my favorite movie of all time is Coraline. I think it is just so thought-provoking and the animation is beautiful. It really has a special place in my heart.
   
10. Zombies Attack!: Weirdly enough, I am in the process of creating an emergency plan and some bugout bags for my fiancé and I. It's more of a hobby than worry, but I always thought a couple of these matches would come in handy when the hammer drops.
    
11. Life Goals: This one might require a little explanation. So, I just quit my career as an archaeologist to become a creative writer, and my fiancé just quit his archaeology career to become an illustrator. Together we are writing some children's books, creating a comic book series, and hosting a podcast. It has come to our attention that these endeavors require social media presence (something neither of us are very good at). Through our bumbling around, we've found that our pictures are turning out less-than-great for social media, and the problem is lighting. I think this lightbox really neat for anyone who wants to make their pictures look professional on social media.
    
12. Add-Ons: Makeup Remover Cloths These are so useful, I thought about even adding them to the Zombie Apocalypse part of the Scavenger Hunt! I sometimes forget to take care of my skin. So I started leaving one of these by my nightstand just for those times when I'm too lazy (or drunk) to take my makeup off. They are lifesavers!
    
13. Fandom Related: Adventure Time, come on grab your friends.... No explanation needed really. AT is amazing, and I'm sad the series is ending, but we will always have the comics!
    
14. Ridiculously Priced: Okay, let's chat. This watch is over $200,000 and has 4 reveiws? 4 people bought this? Why?! If I was that rich, I'd hole up in my cool-ass movie theater and eat caviar all day. Who needs a watch for that?
    
15. Shark or Unicorn: This unicorn color-changing light is on my wishlist. I want it so badly, but have no idea where I would put it. The bathroom maybe? It has to be somewhere that won't get in the way of all my other unicorn stuff. I like when people just happily stop upon a unicorn in the apartment. When they're peeing is a good time, right?
    
16. Smells Great: These candles are the scents of a coffee shop and so I know everyone in my house would feel warm and welcome right when they walk in once they are lit. These are actually three of my favorite scents, so you can probably tell that I have a slight coffee-related addiction.
    
17. Toy: Dixit is an amazing game. Like...I don't know how to describe it. A bunch of cards with illustrations on them need to be described by the players, and then everyone votes on which description they like the best (blindly vote). It's just a wonderful game for inspiration, and you can make it as complicated or as simple as you'd like. I really enjoy playing it with both my friends and family.
    
18. Helpful for Writers: An Imaginative Workbook! I think one of the biggest things writers forget how to do is play! We spend so much time in our universe, trying to make it perfect, that sometimes we forget to just let go and have our imaginations run wild. I think workbooks like the one I just linked are perfect for when writer's block hits, or when we need a pick-me-up to remember why we started writing in the first place.
    
19. Current Obsession: My current obsession has become learning how to play the ukulele. I heard on a couple of podcasts that it really boosted some people's happiness, especially if they loved music, but didn't feel like they had the time to learn to play a new instrument. I have been borrowing my neighbor's, but since I am moving soon, I've decided to purchase one from Amazon. They have tons of ukuleles on there, weirdly.
    
20. Makes You Laugh: As a person who loves Wes Anderson films this coffee table book always makes me laugh.

5 book suggestion. So I don’t know what types of books you are into but this is a YA Fantasy. It follows three sisters who were each born with a power. Now that they are of age, they must use their powers to kill their other sisters and become queen! It’s pretty kick ass :)

6 under $1. Okay so I’m from Scotland and I don’t know if this actually works out to be less than $1 but it is less than £1 so I hope that counts!! And they are really cute :)

This is not abuse but he is a jerk. My mom is an occasional smoker and knows most people hate the smell, herself included. Here are the products she uses:

Sprays:
Fresh Wave Odor Removing Spray - works like Febreze, spray across the room, natural product, can get smoke smell out of clothes, couches, carpets, etc. really nice product, eliminates well.
Zep Smoke Odor Remover Aerosol Spray Commercial Smoke Odor Eliminator - more heavy duty spray, doesn’t have a strong smell but is a bit more chemical obviously. This is what we used first before we found the Fresh Wave natural products. Works well on clothing, carpets, couches, and also odors in plastic containers like garbage cans.

Gel/Candle:
Fresh Wave Odor Removing Gel - natural ingredients, lavender scent, good for small spaces like the bathroom or kitchen, perhaps the living room as a background odor eliminator. You may prefer a candle, but this doesn’t require you to remember to put it out and with a toddler I’m sure that’s helpful.
Just Makes Scents Smoke & Odor Eliminator Blended Soy Candle - there are tons of candles that work for smoke odor elimination. It’s just a matter of finding the one you like. My sister got my mom this one and its a nice smell without being overpowering. It’s also a soy wax candle and is more environmentally friendly than other brands.

Air Filter:
Pure Enrichment PureZone HEPA Air Purifier

• this is more of an investment but if you feel like your whole house smells smoky, this would be a good item to consider. Works really nicely in living room sized space but you could also move it to the bedroom or nursery.
  There are lots of other filters like this. I’m just choosing the one my mom has because I know it works.
  
  Charcoal Bags:
  California Home Goods Air Purifying Bags - these charcoal bags are awesome for stinky shoes but also work on coats and coat closets and small spaces like vehicles. My mom wears one coat and one pair of “garage shoes” to smoke in and those are left outside in the garage. We put these in her shoes and the coat’s pockets and it’s helped a lot.
  
  Another option:
  Ozium products are really good but the things linked above are generally more natural. Since you’re pregnant and have a little one, you could use Ozium in your husband’s vehicle or in the garage but I wouldn’t recommend them in the house right now.

1. When drinking delicious wine, there is always a good time when playing Mario Kart. You get a little tipsy and start screaming obscenities at a handheld gaming device when racing with your friends or just randoms online (who are totally cheating). The wine actually enhances your skills, so really, the two go hand-in-hand together. One is not the same without the other.
   
2. Brooms are good for cleaning (but who likes to do that), they're ideal for flying...but that's a skill we don't all acquire, sadly. I don't like sweeping at all, so this pet bed is ideal. All the dog and cat hair will be confined to this one space instead of all over the floors, rugs, couches and beds. Then you just need to wash one thing instead of everything. It's the perfect plan...
   
3. The thing about hats is, they're an accessory. They enhance your look but should not be the focal point when someone looks to your face. You need some nice, black eyeliner to create a nice, dramatic look for people to gaze at. They need to look into your eyes with that magnificent hat as just an enhancement in the background.
   
4. Books are magical, books are kind, books bring happiness all within a bind. And while books are awesome, it's really a sin to read anyone with a candle present. You need that scented candle to help transport you into another world. It helps to muddle your senses so that you feel like you are no longer at home, smelling what you always do, but far away in another land, smelling what the characters in your book smell instead. Living with them, walking beside them.
   
5. Trunks are wonderful places. They can hide things at the foot of your bed that you don't quite want people to look at, while still being accessible for you to enjoy. That's where this Ryan Gosling Pillow Case comes in handy. I want to gaze upon that beautiful face and rest next to him...but I don't want others to see that magnificence, so when I awaken, I will hide him in my trunk and when I go to sleep, I can fetch all his handsome glory and rest easy.
   
   Bonus: Capes are for superheros and they need them to fly. It is known. But what most people do not know is that while they need the cape to fly, they need sour candies to stay in the air. It's a real conundrum with the scientists over why. Why are sour candies the fuel that keep them afloat ? It just is. It is known.

I do modeling, and sometimes we are allowed to keep what we model, but not too often. I sent my boyfriend pictures of a really cute but really expensive outfit I modeled, and he apparently loved it, because on our first-meeting visit, he surprised me by buying it for me before he left! Best gift ever! He’s also gotten me really pretty shoes and jewelry. But nothing beats that first gift because it was an amazingly sweet gesture.

I have gotten him a nice watch and some cool sneakers, and a few other things here and there. He isn’t really into having a lot of stuff. Christmas is fast approaching though, and his birthday is pretty soon after that, so I’m thinking about a nice wallet, a FanChest for the Minnesota Vikings (his favorite team), and maybe another nice accessory. Time will tell what I settle on...

On the other hand, if you both live in the US and in different states, these candles seems like a really cute idea, I’ve been considering those!

Well, my initial idea was that you and your fiancée could find some way to make one of those wax hands (the kind that you can make at fairs and festivals by dipping your hand in wax) for each table with some white or off white wax, in this position. Then, nestle a tea light into the top of each one (maybe connect the tea light with some hot wax?), and surround it with some black rose petals and some purple and white calla lilies. You could also place the hands in these.


Another idea would be to get some of these face masks, cut off the little strings, cut each one a slightly bigger mouth hole, and paint them apricot. Then get some light bulbs, some super glue, and carefully glue a tea light to the top of each light bulb. Rim the inner edge of the mouth holes with super glue, then nestle a light bulb into each one. Place them face up on the tables, lit and surrounded by the aforementioned flower petals and some more tea lights! (you could also get these tea lights instead if you want to spend a little more to keep more with the purple theme)


I hope either of these ideas was at all helpful haha. I know they might be a pain in the butt to make, but I tried to keep with the theme.

(26 F) I am looking for a perfume or cologne similar to this Warm Tobacco Pipe candle I recently purchased. It's a soft, warm tobacco scent with a tiny bit of vanilla. I don't really know how to describe it, but I think it's such a perfect scent and would love to find something similar I can wear.

I hope you feel better, I've been there, frequently. It's hard when you don't know why and well-meaning people keep asking you why. I hope all the entries help to lift your spirits!

1. Pick a color or two that you like. This could be bold or subtle. Two different shades of the same color or contrasting colors. (for the sake of this discussion, lets go with blue as a starting point)
   
   
2. Put at least two colorful or patterned pillows on the couch. Examples: 1, 2
   
   
3. Get some plants. Maybe one for the dining table, one for the coffee table, one on the tv stand by the window, and one for the floor in one of the corners by the couch. Possibly use a modern looking plant stand, example: 1
   
   
4. Get some art on the walls. Simple geometric or organic looking prints or maybe a wall hanging. One above the dining table, one above the couch, maybe one on the wall next to the couch that is part of the kitchen. Some examples: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5
   
   
5. Optional, but a nicknack or two could be helpful to make the place look more personal and lived in (but some people like the more clean/minimalist look). Examples: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5
   
   You could also mess around with maybe a side table to the couch with a fancy lamp/fancy floor lamps. You could also exchange the blanket for a chunky knit or fur one for more texture.

Oh, #1, the tea-lights flowerpot thing again! This article claims that I can heat my home with 8 small candles under flower pots for 12 cents per day.

I'm going to be burning 8 tea light candles. Right here I can get 100 tea light candles for $9.25. That's 9.25¢ each. These candles features approximately two hours of burn time That means I'm going to go through 12 sets of 8 candles every 24 hours. That is $8.88 worth of candles every day. I also have to pay for matches and the flower pots.

That is literally 74 times more costly than the article states. It would cost $266 per month, which is more than I pay for my current home heating...in fact it is double.

Also, the radiant heat effect of the terra cotta pot might make this seem warmer than just simply burning the candles, but it is not. Leaving the top off and simply burning 8 candles will warm the room by the same amount in the same time.
