Maincoons LOVE to play and have that kitten play aspect to them for YEARS!!!Mine loved balls, and a good old laser pointer was the best thing ever. He would get running after that red dot, and couldn't stop well on our hardwood floors and would slide in walls....

Oh and a cat bed on top of the Fridge would be great for your girl. Tiki always slept on top of the fridge :)

Using something like a squirt bottle, all you are doing is training her not to scratch the carpet in your presence. Once you go to bed or leave the apartment, she'll be back at it. That's why I'd put something heavy (furniture, potted plant, heavy floor lamp, another scratching post) on top of the areas you don't want her to dig at any further so that they're inaccessible to her.

Does she actually use the other scratching posts? Cats can sometimes be picky
bout the position and material (mine ignores cardboard scratchers but loves this type) so there maybe something more satisfying to her about the carpet than the other scratching posts.

What kind of stuff is she putting in her food bowl? It's normal cat behavior for them to put toys in their food bowl or even "drown" their toys in their water bowl. It's a harmless quirk of cat nature.

Stay with the heavier food bowl and get a good heavy water bowl (like this) Get a silicone food mat with a high lip on it so even if she does spill food or water it's an easy clean up.

Hopefully that helps with your issues!

I bought a lot of it off zooplus but you can find pretty much all of it on Amazon! Here's the links:

Carrot treat holder/boredom breaker

Hanging boredom breaker

Boredom breaker net

Wooden stairs/platform - this one isnt exactly the same as the one I have but very close

Wooden bridge #1

Wooden bridge #2

Grass mat

Bird perches or lava ledges, whichever your prefer.

Wooden cabin #1

Wooden cabin #2

Wooden cabin #3

Hanging bridge/ladder

Boredom breaker garland

Silver and pink sputniks but they seem to be unavailable at the moment - keep checking back

Pink and purple sputniks on zooplus

The triple purple/pink hammock I made myself with some fleece and cotton. If you search "diy honeycomb hammock", you'll find lots of easy tutorials on how to make them! It's definitely a bit too small, it was my first attempt. Go bigger than you think you should is my advice lol

This is the fleece I use as bedding

And this

Anytime I get new fabrics, I wash them, dry them, then freeze them for 24-48 hours. I also freeze any new wooden toys, products etc. Prevents a mites problem!

Sputniks are a bit hard to find on amazon, they only come in the smaller sizes it seems like. Zooplus only ships across the EU but Im sending the link anyway in case youre in Europe!

Also it took me around 4 months to build up a collection of this stuff, dont feel pressured to make your cage look pretty or to have lots of stuff all at once! All that matters is your ratties have what they need, and then you can build up from there :)

My needs list: This schmansy thing for my knee which has been killing me since I started waitressing. I think it would help. I'm not really sure honestly haha.

My nail polish list: It's an unhealthy obsession. BUT LOOK AT HOW PRETTY IT IS!!!!!

Add-ons: Need I explain ?

Food stuff- These are wacko expensive but they look so YUMMY

For Albus- because I love my kitteh and these look so awesome

Movies- Because Wall-E is the cutest thing ever and well everyone needs it in their life.

Music and Books- because I love BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKIIIIIIINNNNGGG

Wants- I've never really had any sort of fancy camera. My last camera I had for 6 years before it broke. So I have this on my wl currently :)

last but not least my silly NSFW list has this awesome thing and I mean WHO DOESN'T WANT THAT IN THEIR LIFE????

This was fun, thanks!

u/OhGodAGirl · 1 pointr/guineapigs

Guinea pigs, much like humans, have food preferences! You want to stay away from the root vegetables - potatoes, spring onions and the like. Here is a food list of what is good, and what's not for pigs!

If they haven't been fed vegetables before in the pet store, start them off with a bit of grated or zested vegetables - paprika (capsicum in some countries), carrot, even some iceberg lettuce (iceberg lettuce is water disguised as a vegetable; great for treats, not great for nutrition!). Once they've gotten used to eating, you can start chopping up into pieces, then slices, and so on and so forth.

This was the hutch I got for my guinea pigs, but I hate it. The size is terrific, but the quality is terrible - cheap fiber board with shitty fittings. But that will give you an idea of the size you'd like. Ideally something with a 'double decker' is best - you can stow it in a corner without it taking up too much space.

My set up is currently this. Sorry for the shitty quality: only got an iPad to take pictures with. Here is the inside view of the top half complete with nesting box, and here is the bottom half, complete with fuzzy wombat.

So, the 'litter' I have up top is just some generic small mammal litter; I live in Sweden, so it's not a brand that most people would recommend. Any kind will do, or even kitty litter. I line the bottom of my trays with it, then put a piece of fleece (I use VetBed, which you can buy here from Amazon, and cut to size) over the top. What the fleece does is 'wick' the urine underneath, to be absorbed by the kitty litter/absorbing material, leaving the fleece dry and the poops on top. Then I just vacuum up the poops every day and ta-da! Cleaning is done.

Once a week I go through and check underneath the fleece for wet bedding. My pigs are toilet trained, so they do their business in a dedicated litter box, so generally there's not a lot of waste.

The fleece is also machine washable, and reusable, so it cuts down costs a lot. You don't have to use kitty litter - I tried towels before - but I find the litter a little easier to manage. With towels, you need to wash them every day or two, and they can get quite funky.

The hay gets...messy. I always find a strand here or there, even if the rest of the house is sparkling clean! But hay, it could be worse (oh-hoh-hoh...).

Guinea pigs love to hide. You want to buy them lots of hiding spots - ideally, your cage should have a nesting box (a sort of separate room), and then you'll want to pick up little wooden houses off Amazon or your local pet store for pigs. I use this kind, but really any one will do. It gives your pig a place to hide as well as something to gnaw on.

I have two cats. One is a six-year-old male who I got from the Humane Society about four years ago. The other, a twelve-year-old female who I also got from the Humane Society about 5 months ago. My six-year-old male is gentle and seems to be okay with other animals. Introduced them slowly. He was okay with her after just a few days, but she would hiss and swat at him. It's now been five months and she still doesn't like him, but they are now able to co-exist. He generally avoids her and while I wish they were buddies, it just isn't going to happen. If he happens to get too close, she might still swat/hiss, but it's nothing that will really hurt him. They often lay in the bed together, but at opposite sides of the bed. She wears a calming collar (this type) and it does seem to help her mood. She can be affectionate with humans, but she can get quite anxious sometimes. You can also get the calming stuff as a diffuser or spray. Using the calming stuff, she tends to be less territorial and lashes out at him much less. I'd recommend that.

Also make sure to give them their own places where they can hideaway from one another; for example, I have a cat tree in my living room, a cat bed under my bed, a little cat bed in one of the windows, and a little cube thing the cats can crawl into to rest/sleep. I also have two automatic feeders set up beside one another, and they both are always side-by-side when eating...but only b/c they have to be b/c it dispenses the food at the same time.

I wouldn't worry too much though. Worse comes to worse, the most common result is they might not like each other, but they will at least learn to co-exist. My six-year-old male cat still seems generally happy and although she can be mean at times, I think he's just fine. Just give it time, and I think it'll be fine. Good luck!

Here's a photo of them: https://photos.app.goo.gl/u9CYLstMMfD83mDo6 (six-year-old male bottom, female on chair).

I’ve been there! Here are my ideas:

Maybe a glowing led dog collar or a reflective dog vest for night walking? A dog raincoat is nice to have in the rainy months.

Pet beds always seem to need replacing.

I know you said she has a good vacuum, but one year I bought my parents a roomba for pet hair. I also bought them an eye vac because they sweep their kitchen so frequently and I thought it might save them from having to bend over so often.

You could buy ornaments with their names on them or pictures if she doesn’t already have them. You could also consider having pet portraits made by an Etsy artist or from r/artstore & r/hungryartists .

I’ve purchased catnip bubbles after seeing many internet cats enjoying them. However, my old tortie was NOT impressed. She prefers an actual plant that she can murder. You could grab a few plants. Heated cat houses are also a thing.

When all else fails, animal lovers generally seem to appreciate donations in their honor to animal welfare charities. Good luck!

  1. [This cat tree] (http://www.amazon.com/Replus-Cool-Hues-Cat-Tree/dp/B00470VM06/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=1O5947POAO60A&coliid=I2QDDO3ZBBFIV3)
  2. I am not a big fan of cat trees. I think they look kind of tacky but this one is beautiful and looks great. I also like that it is portable. Also, my cat [Piper] (http://imgur.com/7C5yOJb) deserves a great place to perch. I also think she is watching me sleep as seen in the late night picture I posted.

Ohh my gosh I love the iPhone 4/4s case, as well as the wallets! Beautiful. My current favorite thing on Amazon is this cat tower: http://amzn.com/B004BA6LSK because it is modern and so much more aesthetically pleasing than all of the other cat towers I've seen! However, it is also much more expensive, which is why I don't have it yet...

u/NotSuzyHomemaker · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

LOL aww how cute! I've heard from a lot of people that their cats like that toy! I have one of these cat condos and my box loving kitty thinks it's the most amazing thing ever.

u/awsaum · 1 pointr/cats

Here are some of my cats favorite toys and furniture. He also loves wiffle golf balls and laser pointers. His bed is actually an old Serta neck support pillow we don't use anymore. A good scratching post built into a tree is also a good choice for his room. Hope this helps!

If you would like him to be an outdoor cat, you'll want to make sure he has a good cat house. Maybe a heated one for cooler weather like this one

K&H Pet Products Outdoor Heated Kitty House, Olive, 20W https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004ZJOH06/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_YEG3Cb41B3XVZ

Or this one

K&H Pet Products Outdoor Kitty House Extra-Wide (unheated) Olive/Black 26.5" x 15.5" x 21.5" https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01ECC8CV0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_5GG3CbWTZWNQ8

There are a ton of different ones, so even if you don't need something heated you can find a good weather proof option. You also want to look for a way to keep food out for them, but not out for the entire neighborhood, so think about that as well. I'd also suggest a cat water fountain, so that they always have access to a fresh water source. Standing water inside can get gross, but even more so outside.

These things are a bit expensive to set up, but it'll mean your pets will be safe and comfortable while also saving your apartment.

u/bubonis · 0 pointsr/AnimalRescue

I am not shaming you or putting you down for your efforts so please don't take this as such.

A lot of what's on your list is superfluous and unnecessarily costly. You could service a lot more cats with a lot less money if you "aimed" better.

For example, those outdoor shelters. You have this one listed. That's a single shelter for $53. You can build at least two shelters of the same volume for the same money: A cardboard box ($2.50) wrapped in heavy-duty plastic (3 @ 59¢, $1.78), lined with sheet foam insulation ($14.98 per sheet = 8 2'x2' panels @ $1.87 each, 6 panels to insulate box = $11.24), with holes cut on either side, clear plastic ($9.98, cut into six roughly-2' squares, two squares per box = $3.33) over the openings, and a moving blanket ($4) for comfort. Add a can of spray foam insulation ($3.78) to "glue" the insulation together and seal the gaps. With that formula you can build a shelter of the same size for $26.63, and that assumes you don't have ANY of those materials on-hand already.

Feral cats also don't need sardines in water or a grooming cat toy, or for that matter pretty much any of the canned foods. They'd be better off with dry food; it lasts longer (less spoilage) and doesn't attract other animals as much. Forget about anything that requires power, like that "heated water bowl", unless you intend on luring the cats closer to your home in which case your neighbors might have something not-nice to say about that.

Cats are excellent survivors. Give them a place where they can be protected from the elements, harness their own body heat, and have a little nosh and they'll be fine.

u/memorialday2000 · 3 pointsr/ferrets

If you can get something like this it would make car travel a lot more pleasant for everyone. You can fit litter boxes, hammocks, beds, etc and they will have room to spread out. Even a portable dog crate (cloth) will give them a bit more room and you can mount some hammocks and put litter boxes in. I'd recommend getting some kind of clip to keep the zipper together as they will eventually learn how to open them. I have used ones like this for travel and they work really well.

My cat loves just sitting and looking out the window. I set up a 1-story cat condo on top of the dryer so she could see out the laundry room window. She loves it. Make sure there are places where she can lay in the sun, as well. Nothing makes a cat happier than a sunny window.

u/ziburinis · 88 pointsr/JUSTNOMIL

If you want to keep your cat inside for safety he'll get used to it again easy enough.

One thing you can do that is much safer for your cat and for the local birds is to built an outdoor cattery. You can buy a pricy one like this https://www.amazon.com/LAZYMOON-Outdoor-Wooden-Outside-Shelter/dp/B0719R118Z Or just buy the lumber and hardware cloth from Home Depot and slap it together.

I've built something like this using cheap PVC, plastic fencing and zip ties. https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSz_73-xC_W2pzSida3kowgLlLlPyAIyO5iSwpSntl7M2kYtiBe

She absolutely loves it, and it’s a great place to stay warm in the winter. Well worth it.

I should point out… she’s not a very large cat.

u/sciamatic · 7 pointsr/Atlanta

She should be fine until the 20th. Also, if she's just growling and hissing at your cats, then they'll probably adjust to each other in a couple of weeks.

But there are also heated cat houses on Amazon that're great for feral or stray cats. I have this one. It is NOT waterproof, so don't leave it uncovered, but it's great for outdoor kitties.

u/MustBeZipTied · 2 pointsr/battlestations

They are really great. We have 4 of the smaller ones that are pictures, and one of the larger ones. The cats love them.

Outside is so interesting with its smells and lack of boundaries. I'm not a fan of letting inside kitties roam outside unsupervised, but some people do have indoor/outdoor cats. Even suburbs have dangers like roads and dogs. Fleas, parasites, and feral cats, oh my.

I suggest leash training if you have the time. Install a simple child lock on the screen door. I had to have one on my screen door for my sneaky kitty before I even had kids. My cat got out to fight with the feral cat that roamed the neighborhood. I don't know your living situation but this cage can be hooked up to a window for kitties to go in and out in fair weather. Kinda pricey.

Other than outdoor stuff, play with your kitty. He wants stimulation. Good luck.

The cat sounds like it's bored and has pent up energy. Pets are like little toddlers: If you dont entertain them, they will do it themselves and it can be destructive at times. Here are some things you can help redirect and expand say energy:

If only they didn't look so ugly. This is the only one I've seen that I could stomach seeing every day, but that price is a bit over the top.

We got it on Amazon. It's called the Refined Feline Lotus cat tower https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004BA6LSK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fYRrzbC6FY2X3

This is approximately what you want, and about $400! I'd imagine a custom one-off would end up being more than that.
