tl;dr: It's great. There's no iTunes. It's huge. There's tons of customization, but only if you want. Gestures are super cool. Better speakers. LTE.

I just switched from an iPhone 4 to the OPO around New Years. I, too, had been an iOS user for many years and found my iPhone couldn't keep up with the world around it. You and I have had very similar experiences, so I hope this helps.

Incoming Wall of Text (I hope it's useful!):

First things first: If you use iMessage, you will have a problem with Apple hijacking your friends' text messages with iMessage. Before you turn off your iPhone, turn off the Use iMessage setting. Apple has released a tool that will deregister your phone number from iMessage, though it took several days for it to actually work for me. But it eventually did, and everything's fine now.

You'll have some other things to get used to, as well. For one, there's no more iTunes. That's been the biggest change for me. For better or worse, I'm pretty brainwashed when it comes to using iTunes. Now I add my music as I would to a folder, though there may be an iTunes-like alternative.

If you want to emulate your iOS experience, you can, but you'll need other apps and software. For instance, iMessage can be pretty well emulated with Airdroid. I didn't have Siri on my iPhone, but I think the 4s did. If you're used to Siri, you'll find that Google Now is similar, but not quite the same.

Next, the phone is huge. It dwarfs the iPhone 4. This was my biggest concern when I ordered the OPO and it took me several days to truly feel comfortable holding it with one hand. The phone itself is pretty friendly to hold. I got a case for mine which has added a bit of heft to it and takes away some of the phone's elegance.

If you haven't used Android before, it may take a little time to get used to. And if you get into custom ROMs it can be a bit overwhelming at first, depending on your level of computer knowledge. It's all very cool, though. If you're a tinkerer, like me, you'll have tons of things you can play with. If you're not, the stock setup is great, too.

Widgets are weird to get used to. They totally messed with what I was used to in the iOS world and they've altered the way I set up my screens. I use a different launcher, called Nova Launcher, that lets you resize the widgets a bit more than the default launcher. I'd recommend it to you if you want to keep your screen looking elegant.

As others have said, gestures are great. Double tap to turn the screen on, two finger swipe down to play or pause music, arrows left and right for previous and next song. You can draw a V on the screen to turn on the flashlight, but I turned it off because I found myself doing it by accident.

As for the phone itself, it's phenomenal. It's very snappy, it sports a 1080p screen, and has much better speakers. Finally, LTE is way better than 3G.

Overall, I'm very happy with the OPO.

> What is the durability of the back case? I saw a video of it cracking kind of easy.

It's glass, curved glass at that, so not very durable. It may take some small drops if you're lucky and it doesn't fall flat on the back, but other than that, don't expect much. Definitely buy a case if you're worried about it.

>Any recommendations on cases

I'm fond of my Spigen Liquid Air Armor (S8/S8+). It's slim, but still feels somewhat protective. It's not the most protective thing out there, but to me it provides a good balance of protection and grip while being slim (not a huge fan of cases). It's also cheap at only $10.

>I'm on a note 3 currently so a big upgrade overall. Anything crazy different ui wise or is still the sameish TouchWiz we've all come to love?

I haven't used the Note 3, but from what I've seen of it the UI is drastically different in a good way. They've majority toned down their modifications. It's still nowhere near Stock, and has a nice selection of features, but it's not as intrusive as before. It also looks nice IMO, they've gotten rid of the sickly green they used to use everywhere (although, they've replaced it with mostly white, which I'm fine with but some people aren't into). They also have themes and we have preliminary Substratum support, so it should also be fairly easy to customize to your liking.

>How was it getting used to the odd aspect ratio?

Not hard at all. I enabled full screen mode for most of my apps (the exception being games that don't stretch well), and for the most part they don't have any weird issues stretching to fill the screen. I thought it would be nice being able to see more vertically, but I honestly haven't noticed it much.

The times I do notice it is moving back. Using a 16:9 screen feels really weird, especially since most of the phones using it also have big bezels. Everything looks fat and stubby. It's weird, moving up I didn't notice it much, but moving back down it feels super weird.

I've been using the Diztronic flexible TPU case for a couple of months now and would probably give it a comfortable 4 out of 5 score. Generally it fits the phone well and does a great job of protecting it too. The buttons are covered and all of the ports etc have their own exclusive openings - not one opening for the fingerprint sensor & camera, which I'm a big fan of. The camera opening also rises up probably around .3mm or so for additional protection of the lens which is awesome.

On the other hand, the fit isn't that great: when I hold the phone to my ear and push it against my head I can generate a click between the case & phone. I rarely talk on the phone so it's not a big deal, but I've noticed it and can't stop noticing it anymore. I also have had it catch on my pocket while pulling it out and it can pop the case off of a corner or two of the phone. Again, not a huge issue, but definitely enough (IMO) to not give it 5 stars if this were an official review.

_____

As for screen protectors, I've been using the tempered glass screen protector from Pleson and it's been great. I used to use non-tempered screen protectors on my old Moto X and found that after around 3 months I wanted to replace them because they got gunked up with not exactly scratches, just a general blurriness in the high traffic areas of the screen like the keyboard. Mostly noticeable when the screen was off, but it wasn't ideal for looking at photos and it kind of just looked like crap.

The Pleson protector has been great for the three months I've had it. I can't see any blurriness building up and have noticed no decrease in the touch screen sensitivity. I did have a pretty good scare last week when my phone face planted onto a flat surface and I picked it up to discover a crack running vertically down the whole screen.... but thankfully it was only the protector. A bit bummed that the protector itself can crack, but pretty damn happy considering the potential alternative. That said, planning to order a replacement of the same within the week!

See update here which includes a Ringke case review:
https://www.reddit.com/r/GalaxyS8/comments/6a6syd/update_four_thin_cases_reviewed_1/

Original post:

Top to bottom:

  • elago (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XHFYJM7/)
  • Bear Motion (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XRVK3WS/)
  • Maxboost mSnap (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XS8R8TK/)
  • Spigen Thin Fit (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XP54BCW/)

I've been trying out these four thin cases. In the image you can see my S8 face down in each case, with a Verizon tempered glass screen protector on. You can see the edge of it, a white line which curves downward at each end.

I'm thinking of removing the screen protector, so I took these photos to see which case would provide the most protection when the S8 is face down without a screen protector. The Spigen has a raised lip at the top and bottom of the case that just barely keeps the screen protector off the surface below. The Maxboost lips are about even with the screen protector. The Bear Motion lips barely rise above the S8 screen, and there are no lips on the elago.

The Spigen is the most robust case and is the biggest weighing 18 grams, has a raised lip around the camera for extra protection (you can see it in the bottom picture), has space for a metal plate for a magnetic car mount (if you like that sort of thing), and is made of a grippy matte material. Definitely this feels like the case with the most protection. Very nice.

The Maxboost is slightly smaller than the Spigen and weighs 17 grams. It's matte material is a bit less grippy and the buttons aren't as easy to press because the openings aren't cut away like the Spigen. There is no raised lip for the camera. I like it though because it is slightly smaller than the Spigen.

The Bear Motion is made of a sandy feeling matte material that provides great grip. It is about the same size as the Maxboost but only weighs 13 grams and has cut-away button openings and a very small raised lip for the camera. I like it too!

The elago is extremely thin, weighing only 5 grams. It is barely bigger than the phone itself. It is so thin that mine got a small rip near the power button on the right when I was taking it on and off, and the left side is slightly loose, not as snug as the right. Buttons are easy to press as they actually protrude beyond the sides of the case! It is matte, grippy but not quite as grippy as the others. It also has a small raised lip for the camera. It feels great in the hand but doesn't give confidence as it has no protection to speak of except for scratches and fingerprints.

Although size-wise the Spigen is my least favorite, I may end up using it because it inspires the most confidence, seems like it might do better in a drop situation, while protecting the screen better when the phone is face down due to having the largest top and bottom lips, and also the biggest lip around the camera.

Like many others have said, get a launcher, LGs stock launcher is OK, but Nova is just simply better.

I have been using a [Spigen Rugged Armor case](Spigen Rugged Armor LG V20 Case with Resilient Shock Absorption and Carbon Fiber Design for LG V20 2016 - Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M0HW9P4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_Qe8zybKKK66H0) since I got this device and it is great. It doesn't take away from the feel of the device, but I am comfortable handing it to my two year old to watch videos or play around with the screen.

I'm not a huge audiophile but I would like to say that from my experience, the headphones from the promo are nothing special, I actually think the Samsung ones that came with my Note 7 sound just as good with the DAC. Hopefully someone can be of help to you here, I'm going to be keeping an eye on the thread for this part as well!

Welcome!

Edited to add link to case

Second one is way too thick on the edges. My wife has the first one on her iPhone 6S and it's a great case. Buttons are free floating and nice and clicky. Does scratch/scuff really easy though, just FYI. Might want to replace it every 6 months like she does because it just looks dirty and ruins the clarity after enough regular use. You'll see.

I've ordered 3 Spigen cases so far:

[Spigen Liquid Crystal Galaxy S8 Plus Case] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XP4QY2B/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apap_l1Esrmt4SeapO)

[Spigen Thin Fit Galaxy S8 Plus Case with SF Coated Non Slip Matte Surface - Black] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XP4LGHJ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apap_yqDyxiHODk9R9)

[Spigen Air Skin Galaxy S8 Plus Case - Black] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XP5JSRL/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_oky.ybYW997M0)

I've only had the chance to try the first two, and the Liquid Crystal case sucks. The buttons aren't separate from the rubberish case and they're mushy. I won't deal with mushy buttons.

Ordered the Thin Fit instead and it's better but the material is a cheap hard plastic that reminds me of lower quality android phones or the older S2/S3 models. There are also breaks in the corners so you can snap it in because the plastic is so hard, and it kinda ruins the rounded, flowing aesthetic. The hard plastic cutouts on the bottom for ports and such cut into my fingers when the phone rests on it and that sucks. The areas for buttons are cut out completely which is really nice, since I like direct access to buttons. Definitely better than the Crystal, still not great at all.

The third gets here tomorrow and I'll review it when it does. It still has cutouts for the buttons which I like but they are smaller, which means more protection which I also like. The material also has no corner breaks and it's very thin while also tinted black and partially transparent, so hopefully some of the shine and aesthetics come through. The best part about it for me that I think I'll like the most is that the entire bottom is cut out, so I can rest my phone more comfortably on my fingers. I know it's almost practically just a skin on the back since it's so thin, but it has adequate corner protection and I take good care of my phones. Main goal is to avoid scratches and the occasional light fall.

If the last one doesn't work out I'll just get a transparent Neo Hybrid (first one you linked, not OP's). I at least know the quality of that case. I just wanted something a bit thinner this time around. Oh well.

Samsung Internet is a great browser, it supports extensions so you can add an adblocker easily.

Disconnect Pro (~$25) & AdHell 2 (free) are highly recommended system wide adblockers, I use AdHell and am pretty happy with it overall.

I recommend Google Photos for a gallery for the cloud storage, but if you don't care about that the stock Gallery app is fine.

Any bloat on your phone you can "disable" which will stop it from updating and clear it from your app drawer, long press to do this.

Textra is a good texting app if you don't like the stock one, but the stock one works fine for my needs.

Check out Gboard and SwiftKey as alternatives to the Samsung Keyboard, I think they're both superior.

I use this case and am happy with it.

u/dlm4849 · 1 pointr/GooglePixel

I got the Bear Motion and Trianium cases on Amazon. The Trianium is a bit more protective, but a little slipperier than I like. It also seems to have a pretty tall, sharp lip on the front. The Bear Motion is very minimal, not protecting the top/bottom edge, but I love the sandstone, grippy feel.

Still wish there was a Pixel XL version of this case though. Loved it on my 6P.

u/xpen25x · 1 pointr/oneplus

i use a blitzwolf car charger. its not dash charge but it honestly charges the 3 up pretty quick. also has a usb port for a second cable.

i bought a cheap tpu case from amazon for the 3 it has worked great though since its clear it has discolored in the past 2 years as tpu will pull oils in from your hands. but for 8 bucks.

i bought a glass screen protector but since the case fit over the sides and the glass was a tad too wide it wouldnt allow the protector to fit flush as the case would put pressure on the protector and lift it. without a protector i have no visible scratches in 2 years

u/MishaKMusic · -1 pointsr/GalaxyS8

Well i am getting my S8 soon but for the S7E the thinnest case ive used and loved is the Spigen Thin Fit, its soft touch hard plastic, minimal protection but i never drop my phone all i need protection for the back of my phone from small falls and scratches. and it still has a tiny lip to protect the screen when you put it face down on a table so i will be getting it for the S8 as well. EDIT: Oh and it has exposed volume/power buttons which i love. so much nicer to press than through a thick case

u/romanpHS · 2 pointsr/GalaxyS8

this one , "Spigen Liquid Crystal"

VERY nice case, perfect mixture between drop safety and thinness

the only issue with it , like always with clear cases , is that its very prone to fingerprints.

by the way, is it just me or doesn't orchid grey look anywhere like on samsungs website ? its more like a dark grey, almost graphite like.

u/TomMelee · 2 pointsr/LGG3

I've got the Spigen AirCushion

FWIW, I think that as much as anything, the electrode placement on the sticker is the key here. A less good connection will work fine w/ no case, it has to be nearly perfect to work with a case. I do cellphone repair and so I have some weird tools, I actually didn't put the sticker on the way it's recommended.

I removed the back of the phone, placed 3m double sided 2mm tape on the battery, aligned the sticker perfectly, then replaced the cover and tested. When it worked, I removed the backing from the sticker itself and reattached the cover, pushed it down, then pulled it back off. The sticker coating is stronger than the 2mm tape, so it pulled it off, then I smooshed down the sticker for perfect adhesion and put it back on. Alignment is perfect, I couldn't make it work at ALL otherwise.

u/ZayaYoung · 1 pointr/MotoX

I wanted the exact same things as you. I loved the hula bumper except that it was so expensive and I wanted more protection out of a case, so after awhile online looking at cases I got the SUP CASE unicorn beetle series (black/clear version) :

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00N3VHD6C/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?qid=1418917369&sr=8-4&pi=AC_SX110_SY165_QL70

Now I can tell you after months of a use that this thing is seriously your best option. Ive dropped my phone 3 times and in pretty bad spots, yet I have no damage whatsoever to my Moto X. Its super slim, light and strong. It keeps the original look and feel of your X but keeps it safe. I would like to add that it keeps the Moto dimple uncovered so that you can use it. Overall I would say this case is one of your best options especially for the price.

u/_f0xx · 2 pointsr/iphone

Invest in a quality screen protector with a lifetime warranty. My personal preference is the ZAGG GLASS InvisibleShield.

Another good investment would be a good case, I like supporting Diztronic because they're an American company and very well known in the Android world. The owner is super in touch with his customers. Both the regular and "Voyeur" options are good. I own both. The "Voyeur" offers a little more drop protection.

As for apps. You'll find everything you used in Android you have on iOS. When it comes to Reddit apps. I prefer using AlienBlue.

u/stmims1124 · 1 pointr/GalaxyS9

My girl and I are huge fans of Spiggen's "liquid air" cases for both of our S9s, and our S8s last year. They're slim enough, there's enough space between the side bezels and case for a screen protector to NOT get f***ed up from rubbing against the case, they look fairly minimalist, and they're inexpensive to boot. Because the loop around the top and bottom bezel is raised, it's saved my ass as I've dropped both my S9 and S8 face first on multiple occasions without a scratch or crack... Like, pretty nasty drops.
In case you're interested, here's the link on Amazon:

I've heard good things about the Whitestones or whatever they're called, but that's a lot of money for something you may mess up installing (people get nervous, or don't do it on 100% flat space, or they rush it), so I I've been apprehensive about purchasing them, and instead just get flexible film screen protectors and swap them out every few months. This is worked well for us, though it does feel a little rubbery and you know obviously it's not 100% clear like the glass protectors are. Delta Sheild makes these (I'm sure they're just about the same as everybody else that sells the thin film protectors that "self-heal", but they have excellent customer service and lifetime warranty for literally anything. You screw up the installation, or just get scratched up over the course of months, whatever... No matter the reason, they replace it for free of charge with no questions asked, and they always send you 2 per pack.

+1 for Hula case. That's what I have on mine and it's great. It's just slightly thicker on the back than I would want but otherwise I like it.

I will also highly recommend the Unicorn Beetle Supcase (http://www.amazon.com/SUPCASE-Unicorn-Motorola-Release-Premium/dp/B00N3VHD6C) as I used it on my moto x 1st gen and it was good. I wish the back were a bit clearer on it tho.

I had this brand on my G5 forever and on my Note 3 before that. They make a nice case and slim also. They have a couple different options as well. They may also make screen protectors but I can't remember off the top of my head.

I highly recommend them. Good luck!

Have had this on my S7 edge for a year and it's honestly the best case I've ever owned. Perfectly raised over the edges, and super slim. Already ordered this case, just waiting on my s8 to arrive.

Don't think it would stop ribbons from coming loose, but I use these and they at least stop scuffs and scratches both on my walls and on the controllers as well. I'm sure they absorb a little bit of the impact in larger hits, but I doubt its anything substantial.

They are a great product though. I got them in white with for the HMD to match, and they both fit perfectly and look dope too.

u/MackinB · 1 pointr/GalaxyS8

Started with the Liquid Crystal case, and it's nice, but already starting to get that yellowish tint most clear cases get over time. Switched to Spigen Thin Fit yesterday, glad I did. Doesn't show the phone off but fits well and makes it easier to hold.

u/DeadPlasmaCell · 2 pointsr/Android

It's been a long time since I used a non tempered glass protector, I ended up buying the Skinomi ones and so far they've been fantastic. Really easy to install and all the bubbles were gone by the next day. I forgot one of the benefits of a wet application is that you slide it around and get it just right without having to pull it up and try and reset it. It sits over the sides perfectly and my case, a Spigen doesn't interfere with it. Worth a shot for 2 for $8.

u/mgrinko · 2 pointsr/pixel_phones

I have 3 of https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01CS0UVR6/ but they don't come with a power source, so I have 3 of https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01CZUV8AI/ to go with it. They work great and I am very happy with them.

I am using this spigen case on it and it fits on the charging dock fine with it: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M12Z4VQ/

I've had smart phones since before the first iPhone and I've never used cases. I got a few for the Pixel. I love thin and minimalist design so I tried to get the least intrusive cases possible. My favorite ended up being the Bear Motion case with sandstone texture. Here it is if you're interested:

I got 4 other slim cases, maybe I'll post my reviews on them sometime if people are interested.

u/Nitemare3219 · 1 pointr/GalaxyS8

That case is translucent? Looks like an opaque standard matte black case to me.

Cimo typically makes some quality translucent cases, with the option for opaque/matte black TPU as well.

I highly recommend this case though - it's honestly the best TPU case I've ever had (on my iPhone 7 Plus, just bought again for S8+)

That VAIO PRO 13 is a great machine! Wish Sony still made laptops, cause they were getting better and better until they stopped.

In regards to your deteriorating phone case, may I recommend this?

u/KurisuFuransu · 1 pointr/GalaxyS8

Looking at the Air Armor from Spigen after your suggestions. I really like the Orchid Gray, but none of the cases seem to look very good to my eyes when emulating it.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XP87DGC/ref=ox_sc_mini_detail?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A2SFKRF5TPZMT5

Seems even the heavier-duty ones have reviews where the case didn't protect the phone from cracking. I expect it will still help a bit and mitigate damage from smaller falls, as well as make it easier to hold.

I'm looking forward to how the next-gen S# Active looks as that may be the route I take next time.

u/Undergallows · 3 pointsr/Vive

There are covers you can get.

They'll protect against scuffs, but obviously if you smash the thing hard enough you might just snap the plastic. I find the best way to avoid this sort of stuff is to just not go completely wild with my movement. There's also an application called [OpenVR Advanced Settings] (https://github.com/matzman666/OpenVR-AdvancedSettings) that lets you customize chaperone boundaries. It lets you adjust chaperone height, which might be helpful in giving you an idea of how high the ceiling is. .

u/danaholic86 · 2 pointsr/lgv20

I have this case and love it. Not thick at all, and very comfortable. Spigen Rugged Armor

Also basically any USB C dock will work. Just pick one with great reviews and you shouldn't be disappointed.

u/tonyf007 · 2 pointsr/GalaxyS8

Can confirm this works. Just tried it and I was also pleasantly surprised. Definitely stronger hold with the metal plate or without a case. I use a very thin case and it holds, but I feel like it'll drop with a good bump on the road. Nice to know I have the option to go plateless tho.

u/nyc_traveler1 · 2 pointsr/Galaxy_S8

I really want a clear case, i just feel this phone is too beautiful to cover up, i also like to "showoff" my gadgets lol any recommendations?

I have my eye on these:

u/iconformed · 2 pointsr/GalaxyS8

Depends on preference, I don't like bulky cases since I'm pretty careful with my phones so the Spigen Liquid Armor is perfect IMO. Offers adequate protection with a sleek non-bulky design and great grip.

u/ogSPLICE · 1 pointr/GalaxyS8

I have one Neo Hybrid for when i need to be careful with my phone, and right now im trying to find 1 super thin, almost non existent case, for when im at an fancy event, or meeting, or elegant dinner party. This way i can still have the super thinness of the phone, but avoid scratching up the back.

Ive tried the Annceer case, which is very minimal, but just feels and looks dirty, by the design, so im sending this back.

I tried the Elago , this case is also thin, but just way to slippery, like a wet bar of soap. - going back

The Spigen thin air so far is my preferred super thin case of choice. Has enough grip on it too. I just wish the camera cut outs were the same as the Elago or Anncer.

and im currently waiting on the MNML case to ship so i can try that one out

u/Oh_helloooo · 1 pointr/Nexus6P

I've had this one on for a few months after having the same Spigen problem. The clear back has developed a few small scratches that you'll notice if you look close, though. If that bothers you, I think they have a version that's solid throughout. Buttons aren't cut out but never give me a problem. Great option for the price. Hopefully you can still find it elsewhere.

Edit: The solid option

Super thin?

This wins: https://www.amazon.com/elago-Galaxy-Plus-Origin-Black/dp/B06XXLQ4PG/ref=sr_1_1?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1492198545&sr=1-1&keywords=elago+s8+plus

Thing is like paper LOL i have it and its just a very thin piece of plastic only meant to protect from scratches. Waiting for the phone so I can slap it on but I imagine its going to look/fit like a skin.

EDIT: the first two look like the same case only different names as the one i posted... Why are these random companies the only ones to have precise cutouts for the camera, flash and fingerprint sensor whereas big names like Spigen got lazy and just cut out one big hole..

Both are pretty unobtrusive and offer mild to medium protection. For serious stuff I would get an otter box and if you want to destroy a small country I would get this

If anyone finds a good glass screen protector I would love to get one

It's not clear, but this Diztronic case is cheap and wonderful. My wife and I both have it and love it. She's dropped her phone in a parking lot and neither of us could even tell anything happened.

u/iamafriscogiant · 4 pointsr/iphone

I recommend this one because it extends a good amount past the screen preventing a screen shatter on a face down drop. It feels good in the hand, doesn't hold fingerprints, and doesn't add too much bulk. Not many color choices though. $10 Amazon Prime.

Screen protectors will most likely give good protection against scratches. However there is no actual proof anywhere on the internet that screen protectors would offer any meaningful protection against drops.

"I dropped my phone and only the screen protector cracked." People tend to use that as a proof that it works. But in reality they can't be sure if the screen would have cracked without the screen protector.

Screen protectors are more fragile than your screen. For example some people have received screen protectors that have already cracked in the mail. The Ozrly tempered glass screen protector that gets mentioned here a lot is only 0.24mm thick. Also it's highly unlikely that the phone is going to fall on the floor and land flat on its face. Screen protectors don't offer any protection to impacts on corners/sides of the phone.

A case like TUDIA Slim-Fit CYGEN Dual Layer Protective Case for OnePlus One will offer more protection against drops. The edges on it are raised above the screen little bit. So get a case to protect your phone against drops. But know that the phone will feel different on your hand due to the texture and increased thickness. Add screen protector for the extra protection against scratches.

Or use the phone naked, without a case or screen protector.

u/hherbzilla · 3 pointsr/LGG3

I'm currently sporting the Spigen ULTRA HYBRID Series [Gunmetal]. I've been a fan of Spigen cases from past phones, and am liking it for the LG G3. The only oddity is that it has the antenna cutout. Otherwise, looks good, feels good.

Looks like the Spigen version of the Supcase Unicorn Beetle.

ROM: (NOTE: I just checked and it was discontinued two weeks ago! Still usable of course.)

  • AlphaROM on xda. Comes with audio tools such as viper4android which let you toggle all sorts of improvements & effects for your headphones. LineageOS is also a decent universal option.

    Cable:

  • Anker Powerline+ Cable - Super durable usb cord with support for high transfer speed & charging speed (Quickcharge 3.0)

    Case:

  • Spigen Tough Armor or Rugged Armor Case - Simple solid cases with good protection and usability. (Not as beefy as an otterbox though)

Does anyone with the GelShell controller skins have a comment on whether they improve gameplay (i.e. feel better, controller easier to grip, etc)?

I don't care about looks and I'm not worried about my controllers getting scuffed, but I would consider buying if you think tactilely they feel better than original controller?

I have these three, and that cheap one from Tauri is probably the easiest to put on and off - although they all pop on and off real easy. My favorite and daily is that gray Ringke - it looks so good on the phone, nice and classy, but still a one piece with a great texture that won't slip out of your hands - and again, dead easy to pop the phone in and out.

TLDR: Minimal case made of quality TPU, multiple horrendous drops and still in pristine condition. Give it a go, if not you can always return it.

I've been using a Diztronic case, it's pretty minimal, photos don't do it justice. Been using the same case since I got the phone in Nov.2016. I've dropped the phone many times, haven't broken it yet. It also provides a lip if you will for the front so you can put your phone face down if you wanted. Also the buttons are covered but they are easy to push and not mushy at all, you still get good tactile feedback.

Also I'm not sure why but every other TPU case I've seen usually feels cheap and grainy or its smooth glossy plastic which makes it feel even cheaper. Diztronic does a good job of making dense matte TPU.

u/ffaorlandu · 2 pointsr/iphone

I personally prefer the flexible rubber NGP/TPU style cases. They are easy to get on and off when necessary, they protected from minor falls, and they don't add much bulk to the phone at all.

I got the Spigen Liquid Amor from Amazon for $12. I also like Incipio brand rubber cases.

u/TTwoTerror · 5 pointsr/GooglePixel

These cases actually have a sandstone feel to the back similar to the Oneplus One. I had one of these for one of my devices and absolutely loved it.

The point of these slim cases in my opinion is to protect from scratches from in your pocket or sliding across a table rather than dents and dings that you'd get if you dropped the device. I'd recommend this from personal use. It is slim, protective, and aesthetically pleasing.

Just wanted to share some photos of my 2 cases. I've been using the Supcase since shortly after getting the phone and have been very happy with it. Since I purchased the Diztronic first and have not been using it, I took advantage of the black friday sales on dbrand to try to dress it up a bit. I'll be giving the D&d combo a test drive for a few days to see how it compares.

u/SpiderDice · 3 pointsr/GalaxyS8

I just received the Liquid Air Armor from Spigen, and I really like the feel of it. It's like that harder rubber, and the back has a nice pattern to it that provides grip. I've tried many different Spigen cases, and for me, the Thin Fit over time developed scratches that wouldn't go away. So that's why I opt'd for the Liquid Air this time.

I like and recommend Spigen cases to everyone.

u/FuneralGoose37 · 1 pointr/iphone

My favorite case is the Diztronic Slim Fit TPU case. I don't like bulky cases so it suits my needs perfectly. I also use a tempered glass screen protector so I don't have to worry about using the slim case.

u/nautimike · 2 pointsr/Nexus6P

I'd recommend this diztronic case;

http://www.amazon.com/Nexus-Diztronic-Slim-Fit-Flexible-Huawei/dp/B017DU6GMK

It's very slim, fits perfect, and is pretty inexpensive.

u/Capt_Curry1 · 3 pointsr/MotoX

That's for the 2013 model bud. The pics and the pricing justify the model. Also under specs it mentions Moto X rather than Moto X 2nd Gen. Read this post for info on Moto X 2014 cases. If you want an Otterbox then check their site.

I myself own a SUPCASE Unicorn Beetle Series and its one solid case that offers maximum protection without any cost on size/sturdiness. If you want something similar to the Otterbox Defender try the SUPCASE Unicorn Heavy Duty Series. Either way you can't go wrong and I highly recommend that case. If you have any questions feel free to comment or pm me.

u/CheekyGoose · 2 pointsr/GalaxyS8

$42 seems a bit much for one screen protector, but from what I've seen, the Whitestone Dome is an excellent screen protector because the adhesive glues the entire panel, rather than just the sides.

Personally, I recommend any TPU screen protector. They tend to be a lot cheaper (like $3-8 on Amazon). A TPU protector is a rubbery layer that doesn't offer quite as much protection, but it gets the job done if you pair it with a case that has a lip.

I've been using this one from Amazon for about two and a half years which came in a two-pack, but I'm still on the first one: https://www.amazon.com/Protector-Friendly-Skinomi-Anti-Bubble-Application/dp/B071RFGSBF
and the case I use with it is the Spigen Tough Armor: https://www.amazon.com/Spigen-Tough-Armor-Designed-Galaxy/dp/B06XP4FP8N

u/Swarfega · 3 pointsr/Nexus6P

A fitBAG (pouch) as I dislike cases. I am careful with my device but managed to drop it in the bag the other day when carrying too much stuff and scuffed the top corner where the phone is exposed. Gutted :(

I also have a Diztronic for times where taking it in and out the pouch is a hinderance such as at the gym or when my clumsy wife wants my phoen to take photos. It's a pretty decent minimalistic thin(ish) case to be honest.

I also have two (they sent my order twice) Rhino Shield Crashguard bumper cases. I couldn't get on with it as the bumper just makes the phone bulky. If someone in the UK wants to buy this unopened white case and screen protector I will be happy to sell it.

u/starspec · 1 pointr/Android

u/darklord314159 · 3 pointsr/LGG3

In my opinion I wouldn't get this case. It's a bumper case, yet it doesn't even protect the top and bottom at all. It's basically made to just protect the back of the phone from scratches. If anything I'd recommend the spigen air cushion case.

http://www.amazon.com/Spigen-CUSHION-Gunmetal-Scratch-Resistant/dp/B00K33N3GC

I have this case on right now and it feels really sturdy and could protect it from minor drops. The only down side to this case is that it has a cutout on the top left for the Korean version TV antenna. As long as you can deal with that, this case is awesome, not too thick but semi protective as well.

I had the Neo Hybrid case for my S6, went through two back to beck in a short period of time. The concept is nice, but the quality wasn't there.

I moved on to the Spigen Thin Fit Galaxy S8 Case and also have one for my S9 now.

I have a silver XL with this case... https://www.amazon.com/Spigen-Hybrid-Cushion-Technology-Protection/dp/B01M12Z4VQ I'm very happy with it. More protection than the Google clear case and really shows off the phone

u/eziopcmr · 1 pointr/MotoX

I'm really in need of a good case that protects against drops. Just to make sure, is this the one you're referring to?

u/CZbwoi · 2 pointsr/MotoX

Buy one of these, Supcase.

All of them have a see-through back cover(except the pure black/black one) and they have good grip and fixes all your slipping problems, I just got mine yesterday.

Choose which one you want. Frost Clear/Black goes with anything, as does just regular old Frost Clear, but that one is too plain and...milky white for me. On the other hand you could just do Black/Black for blackness or choose one of those color options.

2 Moto X's I'm currently holding, the black one and one of the blue ones(Navy I think). While the black one has a softer fabric feel and the blue one is more plastic, they both slip sometimes. I'd say go with one of these cases.

  1. I have the Spigen Liquid Crystal Clear. https://www.amazon.com/Spigen-Crystal-Protection-Premium-Clarity/dp/B06XP4QY2B/ (make sure you get the S8 Plus version) It's not too thick and lets you show off the looks of the phone really well.

  2. Nova all the way.

The Spigen air cushion is a near perfect case. Its very slim with good drop protection and a clear back. The only issue is that there is an extra opening for the International version of the phone in the upper right corner. It might bother some people.

I love the quality and design of Spigen cases.

I'm looking at the Thin Fit, the Liquid Air Armor or the Ultra Hybrid for the normal Galaxy S8.

u/001100000 · 5 pointsr/oneplus

I'm using this one, after installing it you can see a bit of a matrix of dots, but only when off-angle and when the screen is off. Doesn't show in normal use with the screen on. Definitely worth the £9, knowing that OnePlus doesn't have the best customer service reputation. I'm using the OtterBox case that OnePlus has on their site, the screen protector works fine with it.

u/n81acc · 2 pointsr/nexus5x

I really like my Diztronic case. They advertise the "lay on the table" design because of its lip. It's protected my phone's screen many times after my toddler and I have dropped it.

This is a good alternative. But its does feel less ergonomic than the Liquid.

u/DynamicHawk · 2 pointsr/samsung

What i did, since they are basically the same, was look at the best cases for the S8 and S8+. Manufactorers are not going to reinvent the wheel when they only need to update the camera cutout.

I ended up going with this case if you need something to start with.

It was well rated for the S8. It was even higher rated for the iPhone versions.

u/VirtuousNerO · 2 pointsr/SamsungS8

I recommend that the spiggen tough armor series. I have been trusting spiggen for years and they are tried and true inexpensive, quality cases. Of course If you want a "pretty" you'll sacrifice protection and quality most of the time. I haven't found a good screen protector though. I have the Curved Ballistic glass from tech armor on my phone right now and I don't like it. The edges have line on them almost like the glass had t o be broke to bend down. That and they onlu have adhesive at the top and bottom of the screen. I dropped it earlier and the screen protector moved and I had to fix it.

Edit: If you do go spiggen don't buy from them directly. You can get the case half off their price from Amazon. Here's a link (I forget how to make a word a link, sorry: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B06XP4FP8N/ref=yo_ii_img?ie=UTF8&psc=1

u/TheUnchainedZebra · 1 pointr/GalaxyS9

Spigen Liquid Air or Thin Fit. I have both, among other cases, and use the liquid air as my daily-use case. The thin fit is hands down one of the thinnest/lowest-profile cases you can get for your S9/+ that's still high-quality, and will keep the screen from touching any flat surface it's on (granted, it's only about a milimetre or less above the surface, and the case doesn't protect the side buttons). I'd go for the liquid air personally - it's a bit thicker while still being lower profile than most other cases, and will give a fair degree more protection than the thin fit.

Best screen protector and warranty I have ever come across. Other companies I have experimented with don't even come close. I personally go with the matte screen because I like the anti-glare function

____
As for case, I like something minimal with full-body coverage. I personally use this one but my only gripe is that the raised edges on the front of the screen are a bit too raised for my taste and affect swiping functionality. For example, if you're using AlienBlue and want to swipe to return to a thread, sometimes it doesn't register cause the raised edges block the edge of the phone. I like the curved screen of the iPhone 6 and this kind of eliminates feeling the curviness.

I'm thinking about getting this one cause I saw it in person and it looked very nice, but that price tag :(

People buy floor mats so they can turn the Chaperone off. If you're okay with a grid popping up in front of you when you get too close to the boundaries of your play space, then you don't need a mat.

As for padding the walls, people buy those after they've destroyed their first controller from punching a wall. If you are able to turn off that animalistic part of your brain that convinces you what you're experiencing is real, then you don't have to worry about padding your walls. But almost nobody is able to do that right away -- especially when they're new to VR -- so I'd recommend buying some skins for your controllers (and possibly headset too).
