tl;dr: It's great. There's no iTunes. It's huge. There's tons of customization, but only if you want. Gestures are super cool. Better speakers. LTE.

I just switched from an iPhone 4 to the OPO around New Years. I, too, had been an iOS user for many years and found my iPhone couldn't keep up with the world around it. You and I have had very similar experiences, so I hope this helps.

Incoming Wall of Text (I hope it's useful!):

First things first: If you use iMessage, you will have a problem with Apple hijacking your friends' text messages with iMessage. Before you turn off your iPhone, turn off the Use iMessage setting. Apple has released a tool that will deregister your phone number from iMessage, though it took several days for it to actually work for me. But it eventually did, and everything's fine now.

You'll have some other things to get used to, as well. For one, there's no more iTunes. That's been the biggest change for me. For better or worse, I'm pretty brainwashed when it comes to using iTunes. Now I add my music as I would to a folder, though there may be an iTunes-like alternative.

If you want to emulate your iOS experience, you can, but you'll need other apps and software. For instance, iMessage can be pretty well emulated with Airdroid. I didn't have Siri on my iPhone, but I think the 4s did. If you're used to Siri, you'll find that Google Now is similar, but not quite the same.

Next, the phone is huge. It dwarfs the iPhone 4. This was my biggest concern when I ordered the OPO and it took me several days to truly feel comfortable holding it with one hand. The phone itself is pretty friendly to hold. I got a case for mine which has added a bit of heft to it and takes away some of the phone's elegance.

If you haven't used Android before, it may take a little time to get used to. And if you get into custom ROMs it can be a bit overwhelming at first, depending on your level of computer knowledge. It's all very cool, though. If you're a tinkerer, like me, you'll have tons of things you can play with. If you're not, the stock setup is great, too.

Widgets are weird to get used to. They totally messed with what I was used to in the iOS world and they've altered the way I set up my screens. I use a different launcher, called Nova Launcher, that lets you resize the widgets a bit more than the default launcher. I'd recommend it to you if you want to keep your screen looking elegant.

As others have said, gestures are great. Double tap to turn the screen on, two finger swipe down to play or pause music, arrows left and right for previous and next song. You can draw a V on the screen to turn on the flashlight, but I turned it off because I found myself doing it by accident.

As for the phone itself, it's phenomenal. It's very snappy, it sports a 1080p screen, and has much better speakers. Finally, LTE is way better than 3G.

Overall, I'm very happy with the OPO.

Ive had my X for about a month, switching over from the Galaxy S8 so heres my experience

> What kind of case should I get for the X

I have a tempered glass screen protector for the screen and a really chunky bumper case with a clear plastic back (https://www.amazon.co.uk/iPhone-Spigen%C2%AE-Cushion-Technology-Protection/dp/B074CMHQW5/ref=sr_1_6?s=telephone&ie=UTF8&qid=1524581014&sr=1-6&keywords=iphone+x+case) so you can still see the lovely apple logo. I use this as it is grippy, adds a bit of heft to the phone and also the camera cutout is protruded so the lens never touches the surface when i put the phone down. Also, a bit of a placebo but it does give me a bit of drop confidence as the rubber bumper is quite thick and reinforced. If you play alot of games the extra size makes it comfortable to hold for long periods although that same heft might be a downside for gym use. Its great for taking pics as the lens has a low chance of ever being damaged or scratched.

> Would I be a fool to start my iPhone X life with it being a blank slate instead of having the Apple techs clone my current phone setup onto it today?

Im a nerd and always start from scratch on all phones I get cos i enjoy the experience but if you 're in the Apple eco system I guess it would only benefit you by transferring your stuff across?

> do magnets do any damage to the IPhone X

I have a magnet mount in my car and have not had any issues as of yet

> Is there anything I can now do better or differently with my iMac by having the X

I dont have a Mac but I don think theres anything in addition to the X that can be done that other iPhones cant do. The extra spec bump in video recording is great, depends on how seriously you want to get into it if you want to consider getting better equipment.

> is my dumpy series 0 watch going to be a. Detriment to the glory that is the X

I dont have an Apple Watch but really want to get one so this would also be good for me to know lol

> And finally——— any X owners feel like suggesting a game or a two or an app that is just a beast on the X

I dont game much on the X as of yet but when I had an iPhone 6, I purchased Star Wars Knights of the Old republic and played it like ass.
I also bought the game again on the Galaxy S8 and although alot smoother, it still crashed alot. However, on the X it is just a dream. Plays beautifully!

Also, one thing I would recommend is getting a 12w iPad charger for the X, charges much faster compared to in the box charger and it does not require you to get an expensive USB C to lightning cable, you can just use the regular lightning cable.

I've been using the Diztronic flexible TPU case for a couple of months now and would probably give it a comfortable 4 out of 5 score. Generally it fits the phone well and does a great job of protecting it too. The buttons are covered and all of the ports etc have their own exclusive openings - not one opening for the fingerprint sensor & camera, which I'm a big fan of. The camera opening also rises up probably around .3mm or so for additional protection of the lens which is awesome.

On the other hand, the fit isn't that great: when I hold the phone to my ear and push it against my head I can generate a click between the case & phone. I rarely talk on the phone so it's not a big deal, but I've noticed it and can't stop noticing it anymore. I also have had it catch on my pocket while pulling it out and it can pop the case off of a corner or two of the phone. Again, not a huge issue, but definitely enough (IMO) to not give it 5 stars if this were an official review.

_____

As for screen protectors, I've been using the tempered glass screen protector from Pleson and it's been great. I used to use non-tempered screen protectors on my old Moto X and found that after around 3 months I wanted to replace them because they got gunked up with not exactly scratches, just a general blurriness in the high traffic areas of the screen like the keyboard. Mostly noticeable when the screen was off, but it wasn't ideal for looking at photos and it kind of just looked like crap.

The Pleson protector has been great for the three months I've had it. I can't see any blurriness building up and have noticed no decrease in the touch screen sensitivity. I did have a pretty good scare last week when my phone face planted onto a flat surface and I picked it up to discover a crack running vertically down the whole screen.... but thankfully it was only the protector. A bit bummed that the protector itself can crack, but pretty damn happy considering the potential alternative. That said, planning to order a replacement of the same within the week!

See update here which includes a Ringke case review:
https://www.reddit.com/r/GalaxyS8/comments/6a6syd/update_four_thin_cases_reviewed_1/

Original post:

Top to bottom:

  • elago (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XHFYJM7/)
  • Bear Motion (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XRVK3WS/)
  • Maxboost mSnap (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XS8R8TK/)
  • Spigen Thin Fit (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XP54BCW/)

I've been trying out these four thin cases. In the image you can see my S8 face down in each case, with a Verizon tempered glass screen protector on. You can see the edge of it, a white line which curves downward at each end.

I'm thinking of removing the screen protector, so I took these photos to see which case would provide the most protection when the S8 is face down without a screen protector. The Spigen has a raised lip at the top and bottom of the case that just barely keeps the screen protector off the surface below. The Maxboost lips are about even with the screen protector. The Bear Motion lips barely rise above the S8 screen, and there are no lips on the elago.

The Spigen is the most robust case and is the biggest weighing 18 grams, has a raised lip around the camera for extra protection (you can see it in the bottom picture), has space for a metal plate for a magnetic car mount (if you like that sort of thing), and is made of a grippy matte material. Definitely this feels like the case with the most protection. Very nice.

The Maxboost is slightly smaller than the Spigen and weighs 17 grams. It's matte material is a bit less grippy and the buttons aren't as easy to press because the openings aren't cut away like the Spigen. There is no raised lip for the camera. I like it though because it is slightly smaller than the Spigen.

The Bear Motion is made of a sandy feeling matte material that provides great grip. It is about the same size as the Maxboost but only weighs 13 grams and has cut-away button openings and a very small raised lip for the camera. I like it too!

The elago is extremely thin, weighing only 5 grams. It is barely bigger than the phone itself. It is so thin that mine got a small rip near the power button on the right when I was taking it on and off, and the left side is slightly loose, not as snug as the right. Buttons are easy to press as they actually protrude beyond the sides of the case! It is matte, grippy but not quite as grippy as the others. It also has a small raised lip for the camera. It feels great in the hand but doesn't give confidence as it has no protection to speak of except for scratches and fingerprints.

Although size-wise the Spigen is my least favorite, I may end up using it because it inspires the most confidence, seems like it might do better in a drop situation, while protecting the screen better when the phone is face down due to having the largest top and bottom lips, and also the biggest lip around the camera.

I have a Galaxy Note10+, with the "Encased" Belt Clip Case, and I bought the Nite Ize HipClip. The fit should be similar to most "Shell Holster Combo" type cases of similar design. This clip fits perfectly on the top section of the kick stand. It allows my phone to suspend in my pocket (keeping pocket lint from damaging the ports and speaker), while still maintaining a slim profile, and allowing my camera/flashlight to be exposed if I need to inconspicuously record a crazy ex while picking up the kids, or see in the dark while having two free hands.

The only undesirable part about the clip is that it could be thinner. The bump out pushes the limit of some thinner dash mounts. Doesn't affect me, but it looks close.

Word to the wise. Make sure you let the adhesive set for at least an hour to get 75% bond strength. The 3M VHB adhesive is a strong bond, but only if you clean the surface properly and leave it alone to adhere. This is clearly explained in the instructions, but it can easily be overlooked because of the detail they go into without pictures.

Overall, very pleased with the purchase. I am glad to get rid of the pocket bulk for better functionality.

Second one is way too thick on the edges. My wife has the first one on her iPhone 6S and it's a great case. Buttons are free floating and nice and clicky. Does scratch/scuff really easy though, just FYI. Might want to replace it every 6 months like she does because it just looks dirty and ruins the clarity after enough regular use. You'll see.

I've ordered 3 Spigen cases so far:

[Spigen Liquid Crystal Galaxy S8 Plus Case] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XP4QY2B/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apap_l1Esrmt4SeapO)

[Spigen Thin Fit Galaxy S8 Plus Case with SF Coated Non Slip Matte Surface - Black] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XP4LGHJ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apap_yqDyxiHODk9R9)

[Spigen Air Skin Galaxy S8 Plus Case - Black] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XP5JSRL/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_oky.ybYW997M0)

I've only had the chance to try the first two, and the Liquid Crystal case sucks. The buttons aren't separate from the rubberish case and they're mushy. I won't deal with mushy buttons.

Ordered the Thin Fit instead and it's better but the material is a cheap hard plastic that reminds me of lower quality android phones or the older S2/S3 models. There are also breaks in the corners so you can snap it in because the plastic is so hard, and it kinda ruins the rounded, flowing aesthetic. The hard plastic cutouts on the bottom for ports and such cut into my fingers when the phone rests on it and that sucks. The areas for buttons are cut out completely which is really nice, since I like direct access to buttons. Definitely better than the Crystal, still not great at all.

The third gets here tomorrow and I'll review it when it does. It still has cutouts for the buttons which I like but they are smaller, which means more protection which I also like. The material also has no corner breaks and it's very thin while also tinted black and partially transparent, so hopefully some of the shine and aesthetics come through. The best part about it for me that I think I'll like the most is that the entire bottom is cut out, so I can rest my phone more comfortably on my fingers. I know it's almost practically just a skin on the back since it's so thin, but it has adequate corner protection and I take good care of my phones. Main goal is to avoid scratches and the occasional light fall.

If the last one doesn't work out I'll just get a transparent Neo Hybrid (first one you linked, not OP's). I at least know the quality of that case. I just wanted something a bit thinner this time around. Oh well.

Samsung Internet is a great browser, it supports extensions so you can add an adblocker easily.

Disconnect Pro (~$25) & AdHell 2 (free) are highly recommended system wide adblockers, I use AdHell and am pretty happy with it overall.

I recommend Google Photos for a gallery for the cloud storage, but if you don't care about that the stock Gallery app is fine.

Any bloat on your phone you can "disable" which will stop it from updating and clear it from your app drawer, long press to do this.

Textra is a good texting app if you don't like the stock one, but the stock one works fine for my needs.

Check out Gboard and SwiftKey as alternatives to the Samsung Keyboard, I think they're both superior.

I use this case and am happy with it.

u/sugarwifey · 3 pointsr/diabetes_t1

Yes! Tandem is awesome. If your cost for G6 is low, switch over. It's awesome to have CGM data right on the pump. I have 3 suggestions for you.

  1. Take the clip it comes with out and stick this one on the case (not directly on the pump): Nite Ize HipClip - Attachable Pocket Clip For Smartphones https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007CBSBM4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_muRLDbE56430R

  2. Get long tubing. I used the shorter tubing for years before realizing how much easier long tubing is! I have more flexibility when I sleep, go to the bathroom, etc.

  3. Be careful with the touchscreen. After almost a year with this pump, I accidentally pressed the buttons just right when putting it in/taking it out of my pocket and accidentally stopped my sensor. That was super frustrating and highly unusual.

You will love it! Good luck!

Cable: CHOETECH 1.6ft (0.5m) USB-A to USB-C - I have the 1 meter cable as well, but realized I didn't need that much slack.

Charger: PowerGen 4.2Amps / 20W Dual USB Car charger I've had this for a while now - close to 3 years. (I seem to have an older version as my order history says 3.6Amps / 18W.) I bought it when I had my Google Play Edition Galaxy S4 and a company iPhone 4s. It shows as Charging when plugged in - not rapidly but not slowly either. I use DashClock still and it shows as "Charging (AC)" instead of USB, and it keeps up with running Google Music and Play music at the same time on long trips. I don't have the brightness jacked up, about half way, and it will charge will driving long distances.

Case:Spigen Thin Fit Nexus 5x Case I've liked Spigen and I wanted a thin case. I don't have the biggest hands in the world (reason I didn't get a 6p) so I didn't want a case that added a lot of bulk.

Screen Protector: ANSOTT LG Nexus 5X Tempered Glass Screen Protector I rolled the dice as there are a bunch out there and so far it has been fine. I see 2 chips in the protector from what I assume are drops I caused.

Car Mount: Ipow Long Arm Universal Windshield Dashboard Cell Phone Holder This is to replace this mount which I had for about 2 years. The design of this older one used some springs and plastic grooves that the 2 arms slid on and it eventually wore and cracked. The only problem with the new one is that due to the power and volume buttons on side, it has to be mounted in one spot to not hit any of the buttons. The grip is strong and the arm is nice as it's closer to me than the old one - I don't have to reach as far. This plus the new Android Auto update should make trips nicer.

I bought this Spigen case and I love it! Thin, light, and nice protection. I dropped my phone back flat on concrete and it made the loudest slap noise. Phone was fine! I was 100% sure the back glass cracked but it’s still good!

Edit* I also bought this case as well. I had this similar case for my iPhone 5s at the time. I loved that case which is why I want for it on my iPhone X as well!

I hope I'm doing this right...

1 = This shelter will protect me from naughty UV rays and subsequent burns while I'm studying transfiguration on the beach.

2 = This figurine. I need it with me at school so I can remember where I came from and who I'm becoming a totally awesome witch for. :)

3 = My babes will appreciate these blocks to keep them occupied building their own Toyland while I'm at class.

4 = I need to hurry up and read this before I hear spoilers, otherwise I may be forced to curse the spoiler-giver with boils. Whiiiich sounds like a good way to get expelled.

5 = I would love [this phone protector](http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AW2QT8I/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=14W2GPMO5NQZO&coliid=I69DBBI4I4X90&psc=1
) so I don't end up like my brother-in-law, who once forgot that his phone was in the pocket of his swimming trunks until he was in mid-air above the pool, about to cannonball. Who knows that kind of unexpected things could happen at school, what with nervous wand-wielders and magical creatures running about? I'd better protect my electronics from harm. Assuming, of course, that RAoAS3M is not like Hogwarts and that electricity will work?

Bonus = Here are some hooks I need for my dormitory at school. Gotta keep things tidy!

Thanks for the fun activity! Mischief Managed.

Well i am getting my S8 soon but for the S7E the thinnest case ive used and loved is the Spigen Thin Fit, its soft touch hard plastic, minimal protection but i never drop my phone all i need protection for the back of my phone from small falls and scratches. and it still has a tiny lip to protect the screen when you put it face down on a table so i will be getting it for the S8 as well. EDIT: Oh and it has exposed volume/power buttons which i love. so much nicer to press than through a thick case

https://www.amazon.com/Spigen-Surface-Excellent-Compatible-Samsung/dp/B06XP54BCW/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1505404112&sr=8-3&keywords=s8+thin+fit

I wanted the exact same things as you. I loved the hula bumper except that it was so expensive and I wanted more protection out of a case, so after awhile online looking at cases I got the SUP CASE unicorn beetle series (black/clear version) :

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00N3VHD6C/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?qid=1418917369&sr=8-4&pi=AC_SX110_SY165_QL70

Now I can tell you after months of a use that this thing is seriously your best option. Ive dropped my phone 3 times and in pretty bad spots, yet I have no damage whatsoever to my Moto X. Its super slim, light and strong. It keeps the original look and feel of your X but keeps it safe. I would like to add that it keeps the Moto dimple uncovered so that you can use it. Overall I would say this case is one of your best options especially for the price.

u/brickwallkeeper19 · 1 pointr/LifeProTips

I use one when I run, which is going to jostle the band more then working around the house generally would, and it works great. It doesn't itch at all and stays in place well, and allows me to stay hands-free. Obviously Amazon is your best friend here. They have a ton of options and it's nice to be able to read the reviews so you can decide which band will be right for you. Here's one for $10 with a 4-star rating on over 17k reviews. Should be a safe bet.

I have the spigen thin fit case for mine. It’s the same I had on my 6, and it saved its life numerous times. Super thin, good grip, and definitely protective.

I run with a Flipbelt around my waist, so I'm not sure if that'll work for you, but I find the design of it prevents bouncing and it generally stays in place around my hips without feeling tight at all. I use it to carry my phone, keys and sometimes fuel like gels/gummies/etc.

Additionally, I also carry and handheld Nathan water bottle that has a pouch that could fit a phone. This one is similar. Since I usually have my phone in my Flitbelt, I typically use the pouch for fuel, or cash/credit card/bus pass just in case.

The Oiselle Distance Shorts have a lot of pockets that could likely fit your phone, keys, snacks, and I have found that it'll even fit a small (8oz) water bottle.

You could also get an armband for your phone to free your hands for water.

I've also found that a 20oz or smaller water bottle will stay in place when tucked into the back of a racer-back (T-style) sports bra.

Invest in a quality screen protector with a lifetime warranty. My personal preference is the ZAGG GLASS InvisibleShield.

Another good investment would be a good case, I like supporting Diztronic because they're an American company and very well known in the Android world. The owner is super in touch with his customers. Both the regular and "Voyeur" options are good. I own both. The "Voyeur" offers a little more drop protection.

As for apps. You'll find everything you used in Android you have on iOS. When it comes to Reddit apps. I prefer using AlienBlue.

u/iMbalanceD1 · 4 pointsr/MotoX

+1 for Hula case. That's what I have on mine and it's great. It's just slightly thicker on the back than I would want but otherwise I like it.

I will also highly recommend the Unicorn Beetle Supcase (http://www.amazon.com/SUPCASE-Unicorn-Motorola-Release-Premium/dp/B00N3VHD6C) as I used it on my moto x 1st gen and it was good. I wish the back were a bit clearer on it tho.

and put a magnet in top right of phone next to camera so that I can use magnetic car mount & Wireless charging and works perfectly! Love it! Being that the case is thin, has a decent grip to it, I put Qmadix Liquid glass on front and back along with a tempered glass screen protector for added protection.

u/droidtookstuff · 3 pointsr/GalaxyS7

Best to leave it alone haha.

The phone is so beautiful and a joy to hold, but after this, I bought a case to cover up the nick/chip/scruff. It became a tank but I love it more. With this frame + my case, it's pretty much unbend-able!

My case is a Supcase Pro if you are wondering.

u/whats-upd0g · 1 pointr/running
  1. I find an armband like this one non intrusive and comfortable. Initially, I used to hold my phone in my palm while running (my phone is pretty small).
  2. I use this app for tracking. The free version gives distance, time, calories burnt and time splits. Obviously having an activity tracker like fitbit gives a lot more info like your heart rate over time but imo a tracker is not a necessity.
  3. Running on grass is generally more energy consuming than on a concrete pavement, but I would like someone else's opinion here

I had this brand on my G5 forever and on my Note 3 before that. They make a nice case and slim also. They have a couple different options as well. They may also make screen protectors but I can't remember off the top of my head.

I highly recommend them. Good luck!

u/Nayiko · 1 pointr/oneplus

The most common one I've seen people talk about is the Spigen one, but it's only up for preorder so no idea when it'll be actually released. There is one that comes up on a few sites by Ringke. ( https://www.amazon.com/Ringke-Fusion-X-Designed-Resistant-Protection/dp/B07Q6GZXZK/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=ringke+oneplus&qid=1558147520&s=wireless&sr=1-4 ) It looks pretty hideous though so I'd probably pass on it.

That Olixar one looks pretty good and the screen protector is a bonus. Case options actually had me second guessing my color choice for a bit - I'm waiting on my Nebula Blue but most cases are black which defeats the purpose of having a unique color, so I'll have to wait for some more options or get that hideous Ringke as a temporary measure.

Started with the Liquid Crystal case, and it's nice, but already starting to get that yellowish tint most clear cases get over time. Switched to Spigen Thin Fit yesterday, glad I did. Doesn't show the phone off but fits well and makes it easier to hold.

u/pudgewazowski · 3 pointsr/WaltDisneyWorld

I just got back from 10 days there (left 2 days after they reopened from the hurricane!) and in the days leading up, the forecast said it was going to rain every day. It rained one day for a couple hours and that's it!

I go every September, and I've noticed that most of the rain they get are short cloudbursts that don't last long and then it goes back to sunny and hot, so hauling around a rain jacket is unnecessary. Just get a cheap reusable poncho and take it around. Or, get one at the parks. They're $10, but I've used mine every year for the past 4 years! (I also take it on Kali River Rapids in Animal Kingdom)

If it looks like there's going to be a lot of rain, consider wearing some waterproof shoes or slides that dry quickly. If you're like me, there's nothing worse than wet socks and shoes!!!

ALSO, this 2-pack of phone protectors really came in handy for us this year! For $9 you can't beat it! You wear it around your neck in a lanyard and they really do keep water out.

Have tons of fun!

u/tonyf007 · 2 pointsr/GalaxyS8

Can confirm this works. Just tried it and I was also pleasantly surprised. Definitely stronger hold with the metal plate or without a case. I use a very thin case and it holds, but I feel like it'll drop with a good bump on the road. Nice to know I have the option to go plateless tho.

u/ogSPLICE · 1 pointr/GalaxyS8

I have one Neo Hybrid for when i need to be careful with my phone, and right now im trying to find 1 super thin, almost non existent case, for when im at an fancy event, or meeting, or elegant dinner party. This way i can still have the super thinness of the phone, but avoid scratching up the back.

Ive tried the Annceer case, which is very minimal, but just feels and looks dirty, by the design, so im sending this back.

I tried the Elago , this case is also thin, but just way to slippery, like a wet bar of soap. - going back

The Spigen thin air so far is my preferred super thin case of choice. Has enough grip on it too. I just wish the camera cut outs were the same as the Elago or Anncer.

and im currently waiting on the MNML case to ship so i can try that one out

u/Oh_helloooo · 1 pointr/Nexus6P

I've had this one on for a few months after having the same Spigen problem. The clear back has developed a few small scratches that you'll notice if you look close, though. If that bothers you, I think they have a version that's solid throughout. Buttons aren't cut out but never give me a problem. Great option for the price. Hopefully you can still find it elsewhere.

Edit: The solid option

Congrats!

Rainy days at Disneyland are a blast as long as you're prepared. You can look forward to lighter crowds than if it were dry, thanks to most AP's staying home. Bring:

  1. Waterproof ponchos

  2. Extra pairs of socks

  3. Something to keep your phone dry (we used these on our last trip and they worked a treat!)

  4. If you have space in your bag, a towel would be nice to have as well.

One more word of advice: many rides shut down if there's lightning, even the tram to get back to your car. The downtime usually isn't very long though.
u/Papander · 4 pointsr/oneplus

Screen protectors will most likely give good protection against scratches. However there is no actual proof anywhere on the internet that screen protectors would offer any meaningful protection against drops.

"I dropped my phone and only the screen protector cracked." People tend to use that as a proof that it works. But in reality they can't be sure if the screen would have cracked without the screen protector.

Screen protectors are more fragile than your screen. For example some people have received screen protectors that have already cracked in the mail. The Ozrly tempered glass screen protector that gets mentioned here a lot is only 0.24mm thick. Also it's highly unlikely that the phone is going to fall on the floor and land flat on its face. Screen protectors don't offer any protection to impacts on corners/sides of the phone.

A case like TUDIA Slim-Fit CYGEN Dual Layer Protective Case for OnePlus One will offer more protection against drops. The edges on it are raised above the screen little bit. So get a case to protect your phone against drops. But know that the phone will feel different on your hand due to the texture and increased thickness. Add screen protector for the extra protection against scratches.

Or use the phone naked, without a case or screen protector.

u/SmellsLikeNostrils · 2 pointsr/EDC

The two parts are held together with VHB tape. More than strong enough.

The clips is a Nite Ize universal smartphone clip which comes with a strip of VHB.

The rest is pretty obvious.

EDIT: I bought a clear VHB, for other uses. For this, I think a softer, foam core VHB might work better. The edges aren't flat, and don't rest flat against each other. It still works tho.

I was using a Frieq Sack ( http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00AW2QT8I?vs=1) It works, but after less than a year it became brittle and I think that was the reason for the hole I found in it after it fell in the hot tub. There are lots of other waterproof bags and I am definitely looking for something that doesn't get brittle so quickly.

Zip locks are good, but I prefer having something a bit more robust. I learned that constant inspection of the bag is necessary.

u/Dpat09 · 2 pointsr/Nexus6P

TLDR: Minimal case made of quality TPU, multiple horrendous drops and still in pristine condition. Give it a go, if not you can always return it.

I've been using a Diztronic case, it's pretty minimal, photos don't do it justice. Been using the same case since I got the phone in Nov.2016. I've dropped the phone many times, haven't broken it yet. It also provides a lip if you will for the front so you can put your phone face down if you wanted. Also the buttons are covered but they are easy to push and not mushy at all, you still get good tactile feedback.

Also I'm not sure why but every other TPU case I've seen usually feels cheap and grainy or its smooth glossy plastic which makes it feel even cheaper. Diztronic does a good job of making dense matte TPU.

I had a black leather on my 7+ for a year and with the X I went with a super thin Spigen. Honesty, I am a bit OCD so the nicks in the leather really started bothering me. At least with the Spigen it’s $10 so I can replace it cheaply. With it being thinner it add 0 bulk or extra weight which I’m loving.

I love the look of this thing, but even though I've never dropped a phone, this thing is large enough that I was scared. So I am sacrificing beauty (and in my case, thinness) for safety. I'm using this case. Quite large and bulky, but I don't have to worry about breaking the phone anymore.

Since I purchased the Diztronic first and have not been using it, I took advantage of the black friday sales on dbrand to try to dress it up a bit. I'll be giving the D&d combo a test drive for a few days to see how it compares.

I just received the Liquid Air Armor from Spigen, and I really like the feel of it. It's like that harder rubber, and the back has a nice pattern to it that provides grip. I've tried many different Spigen cases, and for me, the Thin Fit over time developed scratches that wouldn't go away. So that's why I opt'd for the Liquid Air this time.

I like and recommend Spigen cases to everyone.

$42 seems a bit much for one screen protector, but from what I've seen, the Whitestone Dome is an excellent screen protector because the adhesive glues the entire panel, rather than just the sides.

Personally, I recommend any TPU screen protector. They tend to be a lot cheaper (like $3-8 on Amazon). A TPU protector is a rubbery layer that doesn't offer quite as much protection, but it gets the job done if you pair it with a case that has a lip.

I've been using this one from Amazon for about two and a half years which came in a two-pack, but I'm still on the first one: https://www.amazon.com/Protector-Friendly-Skinomi-Anti-Bubble-Application/dp/B071RFGSBF

A fitBAG (pouch) as I dislike cases. I am careful with my device but managed to drop it in the bag the other day when carrying too much stuff and scuffed the top corner where the phone is exposed. Gutted :(

I also have a Diztronic for times where taking it in and out the pouch is a hinderance such as at the gym or when my clumsy wife wants my phoen to take photos. It's a pretty decent minimalistic thin(ish) case to be honest.

I also have two (they sent my order twice) Rhino Shield Crashguard bumper cases. I couldn't get on with it as the bumper just makes the phone bulky. If someone in the UK wants to buy this unopened white case and screen protector I will be happy to sell it.

u/Bi11 · 5 pointsr/nexus5x

I use the Spigen thin fit case. It looks good, isn't bulky, and has a lip on the front. Only small drawback is the headphone hole is sized for most consumer headphones and since I wanted to use studio headphones (ATH M50), I had to take a drill and carve out a bit at the bottom. It works great now though.

The problem with that is you're not going to find what you want.

Any sealed item in a pocket, no matter the job, will inevitably wear down and lose whatever seal it has. The only solution is to get something you will actually enjoy and put it in a case or container that will hold it.

Pelican makes a wallet with a rubber gasket, and a good seal, but something like a phone waterproof bag would be something you could consider. You find them being sold at places like water parks and the like so people can post pics of their 3 year olds looking depressed in a pool. I've seen them work fine in those situations. They're on amazon for around $8 shipped.

I use the Spigen Tough Armor case and love it. I've been using it since April of 2017 for the S8+ but they do make it for the S8 as well. Never had any issues with it. I've dropped my phone a lot and its been fine. I use fingerprint scan to unlock my phone and the case helps line up my finger to do it. It doesn't cover up the bottom so it won't help you there.

u/davs34 · 5 pointsr/Nexus

I have the Diztronic and love it. Had it for my Nexus 5 as well. I really like that there it is just entirely matt black with very, very little branding.

u/jsamhead · 2 pointsr/EDC

Wiha Tools makes the best micro screwdriver bits around, and some of their products are available on Amazon. If I were in your shoes I'd buy this

My personal solution is to keep a Leatherman Wave with a Leatherman pocket clip in my EDC backpack along with a Leatherman Bit Kit that I've modified with a Nite Ize pocket clip and some gorilla tape. Anytime I need to do some screw driving I just clip the wave and bits onto my pocket and they're incredibly accessible.

u/dumezil · 1 pointr/diabetes

here's what it looks like

I called Tandem today and asked the nice lady I spoke with if they would send me a new one but she said they don't sell the clips separately and that they wouldn't send me a one for free. She did say several times that she was documenting this and would send the report to the QA team. Lastly she said that she could send me an Amazon link to replacement clip that cost about $6 that other t:case users have said works well. I've ordered that but it'll take a week to get here...

Hey you can try this case by Spigen:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B06XP4FP8N/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1527600582&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=s8%2Bplus%2Bspigen%2Bcase&dpPl=1&dpID=41ySH5WLRrL&ref=plSrch&th=1&psc=1

I've been using it for the last year, dropped it multiple times with no impact noticeable on the phone. Pretty great case and easy to take on and off.

This is the case I have on my really blue XL and its perfect in every way except sometimes little particles will get in from the finger sensor area other then that its great.

I bought something like this: amazon and it was awesome as I recorded in Mexico while snorkeling and on Cayman Islands as well.

Clear and slim. Not bulky and has good drop protection. And it has a cool little kickstand.

u/RBS95 · 4 pointsr/shield

This is the one. It's a really nice case, won't protect against drops much but for scratches and keeping the phone slim it's great https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B06XXLQ4PG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_5EOtzb32A9TC4

I had the Neo Hybrid case for my S6, went through two back to beck in a short period of time. The concept is nice, but the quality wasn't there.

I moved on to the Spigen Thin Fit Galaxy S8 Case and also have one for my S9 now.

All that being said, in my experience Spigen is very responsive and will work with you to solve the problem. They replaced my first thin fit case on my S8 when the rubberized coating started peeling off at no cost.

u/MStock_t1 · 1 pointr/diabetes

I found the Tandem case and clip to be too bulky. I ordered this clip from Amazon that securely adhered to the back of my pump. It’s worked great for the last 6 months.

The second one looks a lot like the Spigen case you can get on Amazon for half the price. Very happy with mine.

u/JoeyCoffeeCakes · 1 pointr/MotoX

This is what I would get. It provides good protection, you can still see your custom design, and it's half the cost of an otter box. I love mine, it adds hardly any bulk to the phone.

u/identikitten · 1 pointr/GooglePixel

Spigen Ultra Hybrid clear case. I love it so far! Shows off the phone and offers decent protection.

u/susieeQT · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I have a Spigen Thin Fit black case ready to pop on my S8 as soon as I get it and have pre-ordered a Spigen AirSkin case in black. The thinner the better for me - I use a case to prevent minor scratches rather than as drop-protection.

In preparation for my 5x's arrival, I've ordered the following:

u/grifta67 · 1 pointr/Nexus6P

I got one from Diztronic. It's more of a rubber than a hard plastic, but I like it much better. No problems at all with the headphone port or the bottom edge. A couple small drops since then and its protected it so far.

Nexus 6P Case, Diztronic Full Matte Slim-Fit Flexible TPU Case for Huawei Nexus 6P (2015) - Black - (N6P-FM-BLK) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B017DU6GMK/ref=cm_sw_r_other_awd_oUZLwbF3XW7CE

u/pc0n · 1 pointr/nexus5x

I went with this http://www.amazon.com/Protector-PLESON%C2%AE-Tempered-Clarity-Hardness/dp/B016CUS84Q and am pretty happy. No complaints.

Also, went with this Diztronic case that is pretty minimal feeling http://www.amazon.com/Nexus-5X-Case-Diztronic-N5X-FM-BLK-R/dp/B0176S4DMY . I had a similar Diztronic for my Nexus 5 and it seemed to hold up for the few low impact drops my dumbself made happen.

Both the screen protector and the case work well together fwiw.

u/Absinthian · 7 pointsr/MotoX

The case I have is the Moto X Case, SUPCASE [Unicorn Beetle Series]

I have a silver XL with this case... https://www.amazon.com/Spigen-Hybrid-Cushion-Technology-Protection/dp/B01M12Z4VQ I'm very happy with it. More protection than the Google clear case and really shows off the phone

u/teraquendya · 1 pointr/oneplus

$10 on amazon, and the window is the perfect size for the screen. Pictures look decent through the back as well.

u/eziopcmr · 1 pointr/MotoX

I'm really in need of a good case that protects against drops. Just to make sure, is this the one you're referring to?

u/CZbwoi · 2 pointsr/MotoX

Buy one of these, Supcase.

All of them have a see-through back cover(except the pure black/black one) and they have good grip and fixes all your slipping problems, I just got mine yesterday.

Choose which one you want. Frost Clear/Black goes with anything, as does just regular old Frost Clear, but that one is too plain and...milky white for me. On the other hand you could just do Black/Black for blackness or choose one of those color options.

2 Moto X's I'm currently holding, the black one and one of the blue ones(Navy I think). While the black one has a softer fabric feel and the blue one is more plastic, they both slip sometimes. I'd say go with one of these cases.

u/ayzgerta · 4 pointsr/running

I have tiny arms and have had luck with this armband. It is velcro but has two different slots to thread the band through for different arm sizes and it fits me perfectly with no sliding!

u/clumsyotter · 1 pointr/MotoX

Supcase makes a nice one. It's out of stock on Amazon right now though. The back is frosted clear so you can sort of see the color of the back of your phone. http://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00N3VHD6C

Though I don't have that one, I have two Spigens for my Pixel XL, the Rugged Armor, which is good, and this one, which is probably the best case I've ever owned: [Spigen Ultra Hybrid Google Pixel XL Case with Air Cushion Technology and Hybrid Drop Protection for Google Pixel XL 2016 - Crystal Clear] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M12Z4VQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_GZZNAbRMQSDVF)

u/octobereighth · 1 pointr/nexus5x

Spigen tempered glass screen protector and a Diztronic case. I'm glad I decided not to go naked because my protector has a huge scratch on it right now, and that scratch would have been on the screen otherwise!

u/yugi_motou · 2 pointsr/iphone

Take a look at totallee on Amazon. Seems to be very thin and pricing is competitive. Comes with prime shipping as well. It will not protect from hard falls but it will prevent scuffing from minor falls. The scuffs will go on the case rather than your steel band. Spigen actually also has a super thin series that might offer some protection in a thin form factor, it’s grippy so you might actually drop your phone less

u/Bill_Hsomething · 2 pointsr/Nexus6P

I have one of these. I bought it for another phone, but it fits The 6P like a glove as long as you don't have a case on your phone. The fingerprint scanner does not work, but you can type in your password. I have been swimming with it, it works. I can post underwater pix, I'm just waiting for the manatees to come in for the winter.
Make sure you order the one that reads "Universal size fits all Large Smartphones up to 6"," not the 5.3" one.

Update, pictures.

Float strap not included, but recommended.

u/ScottyNuttz · 3 pointsr/GalaxyS8

I love the quality and design of Spigen cases.

I'm looking at the Thin Fit, the Liquid Air Armor or the Ultra Hybrid for the normal Galaxy S8.

Best case I've ever had, dropped it plenty of times with no issue. I don't know if this matters to you or not but it also gives the S7 Edge the same thickness as the Note 7 so it feels like you're using one again, minus the S Pen.

I really like my Diztronic case. They advertise the "lay on the table" design because of its lip. It's protected my phone's screen many times after my toddler and I have dropped it.

My wife has a Nexus 6P and the Speck case for it is very similar. Here it is for the Nexus 5X.

I run in the rain, unless it’s heavy downpour that would create dangerous conditions or poor visibility. Caution and keeping my eyes on what’s in front of me is how I prevent slipping. I generally slow down a tad bit too. Having good shoes with tread that’s not worn too thin is also helpful.

Ziplock bags, the water proof phone cases they sell for vacations on amazon, or the arm bands that the phone goes inside are good waterproof options

I recommend that the spiggen tough armor series. I have been trusting spiggen for years and they are tried and true inexpensive, quality cases. Of course If you want a "pretty" you'll sacrifice protection and quality most of the time. I haven't found a good screen protector though. I have the Curved Ballistic glass from tech armor on my phone right now and I don't like it. The edges have line on them almost like the glass had t o be broke to bend down. That and they onlu have adhesive at the top and bottom of the screen. I dropped it earlier and the screen protector moved and I had to fix it.

Edit: If you do go spiggen don't buy from them directly. You can get the case half off their price from Amazon. Here's a link (I forget how to make a word a link, sorry: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B06XP4FP8N/ref=yo_ii_img?ie=UTF8&psc=1

If you just want a case, I suggest this. I buy this case for every phone I can, it's slim and very comfortable to hold.

If you want more pronounced buttons, Spigen has a near identical model.
