I found Essential Depot on Amazon, free shipping with Prime makes it seem more reasonable. Silly question, but with Palm Oil I was told it had to be warmed up in the original container... How can you tell if the container can benuked in a microwave? It doesn't say microwave safe on the Amazon site. (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001EDBEZM/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=3V9M1NOX9PQ89&coliid=I1XGC0BKGY2U8V)

I noticed the molds around between $50-100, is that normal? Seems rather extravagant to me.

The local chemical factory is a great idea! I have no idea if there is one near me, but still.. Major kudos on creativity.

u/freenarative · 8 pointsr/pics

Hypothetically? It would be easy.

  • pop the body in the bath. N.B. Enamel ONLY! Plastic or metal will erode during the following steps. Pop in a plug. You will need to cover the drain hole with something glass. I suggest an up side down shot glass. Don't worry, Air pressure will hold it in place.
  • place the naked body in the bath (whole)

By choice burn, or at minimum bury VERY VERY DEEPLY in a far far away plot of land, any extraneous items such as clothes or pointy "implements"

  • Cover in high percentage acid. This is EASILY bought on amazon. I suggest [one shot] (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Shot-Liquid-Drain-Cleaner-Litre/dp/B002OB4CTS) drain cleaner. It is 91% pure sulphuric acid. It has been [in the news] (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2176839/One-Shot-Instant-Drain-Cleaner-Boyd-James-scarred-life-acid-leaked-bedroom-ceiling-slept.html) after it ate through the bottle, a cupboard, a wooden floor and was still strong enough to melt a kids face off.

Buy no more than 5 bottles in one place at one time and it doesn't flag as a suspicious buy. You'll need 30 -50 bottles, AT LEAST, depending on the body size.

  • After the subject has been in the bath for an hour or so, pull the plug and wash off the bones. All the soft stuff will have disolved into a soup. The shower or taps are fine for this washing. N.B. wait till the "soup" is fully drained then IMMEDIATELY turn on the taps for at least 10 minutes to dilute the acid and stop the drains from wearing through and leaving trace.
  • pop the bones in fresh acid and leave. The acid will dissolve the bones in
    24-48 hours

The problems with this method is the smell. It is... memorable.. and unpleasant.

The plus points? No DNA or trace.

pro tip if you know for a fact that you have somewhere that won't be disturbed for at least 2 days then there is an easier (ish) way to do all this. Say you had a lock-up or a safe house??? Get an oil drum, pop the subject inside it and cover fully in acid. Pop on a lid and (IMPORTANTLY) place an active carbon filter over it to catch that odour I mentioned before.

NOTE all this information is provided for entertainment only. I do not suggest you read up about [john george haigh] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_George_Haigh) and how he used this method to dispose of at least NINE bodies. And, needless to say, all this is... Hypothetically speaking.
u/gibberingfool · 21 pointsr/philadelphia

So I took the recipe a mixture from here (for core recipe) and here (for some advice on technique).

The recipe I used was this:

  • 3 cups of bread flour
  • 1 cup of tap water
  • 1 tablespoon of unsalted butter (slightly melted)
  • 1/2 tablespoon of dark brown sugar
  • 1.75 tablespoons of kosher salt
  • 1/2 tablespoon of instant active yeast
  • 1/8 cup of food grade lye (I used this) + 2 cups of water

    Some thoughts about the process:

  • I don't have a food processor/mixer, so I had to knead the dough by hand. As a result, the dough was not very stretchy, which made it pretty hard to achieve ideal Philly soft pretzel shape.
  • With regards to the shape, I really need to work on my technique. I feel like defaulting to normal pretzel shape comes more naturally. Any tips here?
  • Very happy with how the taste turned out. The dough was really good, and the lye provided the perfect golden brownness.
  • Handling lye sounds scary but it's really not that bad. I used a plastic bowl in an empty sink. And I made sure to carefully use gloves the entire time. Still, if you decide to use lye, proceed with caution. I don't really plan to use baking soda, since no legit bakery I know uses this method.
  • I accidentally forgot to set a timer when I put the pretzels in the oven, so half of them came out a little dark. Actually kind of glad this happened, because they didn't burn but achieved more of a dark pretzel-type flavor.

Try something like this for hair type clogs

Green Gobbler 31 oz. Dissolve Hair and Grease Clog Remover
https://www.homedepot.com/p/Green-Gobbler-31-oz-Dissolve-Hair-and-Grease-Clog-Remover-GGDIS2CH32/206864994

Sometimes chemicals don't work, and depending on the nature if the issue, pushing something through so that it gets into a larger portion of the drain system is effective- I've had good success with something like this

Toilet Plunger, Air Drain Blaster, Pressure Pump Cleaner, High Pressure Plunger Opener Cleaner Pump for Bath Toilets, Bathroom, Shower, Sink, Bathtub, Kitchen Clogged Pipe https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07BQRVYQR/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_9gZ1Db5RKSZAN

u/captain_craptain · 1 pointr/drunk

Oh don't worry about it. Run some Draino down there, the foaming kind, let it do its thing for like 15 minutes and then you flush it with warm water. No risk at all really.

I'd be surprised to hear that pet safe drain cleaner even exists. And if it does it is probably overpriced and ineffective.

Good luck with your drain!

Edit: I'll be darned, it does exist. The reviews don't sound very promising though.

Alright, I wasn't sure if septic safe cleaners were actually septic safe I'll be ordering this soon.

Thanks!

u/hate_picking_names · 1 pointr/oddlysatisfying

It can, but the one I've used works pretty well and it tells you to fill the sink with water above the top of the foam end. I'm assuming that is to prevent spray.

u/Tetragonos · -1 pointsr/castiron

You want something that has only lye in it.

personally I just stick my cast iron in the oven for a self cleaning cycle (none of it is collectable just like yours). Trick is this has a higher chance of warping the cast iron if anything goes wrong. Course for me if anything goes wrong I stroll over to the 3 second hand stores near me and get another one for $5 so it is all about costs.

u/sasukechaos · 1 pointr/Breadit

Lye is definitely the way to go. Especially for flavor. It's really not that expensive. please please please use gloves and be careful handling it. Read up on it first.

u/mcgroo · 3 pointsr/food

I've had really good experiences using (food grade!) lye instead of baking soda. It sounds weird, but if you're getting into pretzels, give this recipe a try sometime. These are delicious.

Strange ingredients you need:

u/AndyAndyAndyMan · 5 pointsr/DIY

Get a belt sander and some low grit for the flat surfaces. Have one of these for the detail work: Triangle Scraper

And sometimes good old fashioned NaOH for the older paints AKA Lye worked the best on our base layers of paint, which we thought might be milk paint.

God speed.

u/pring_ing · 3 pointsr/Edinburgh

They’re a bit of a faff but if you’re fairly handy it should be ok. If the blockage is high off the ground it may be a pain to do though as it requires so many rods and you have to screw them all together.

The rods are what a plumber would probably use, if you call a drainage guy then he’d probably use a high pressure hose to work it’s way up the pipe and dislodge. May be worth calling someone like that instead, can often be cheaper. I used https://www.drainpoint.co.uk/ when I had a blocked pipe. Think it was £80 or so, can’t quite remember, but might be worth it split between all the flats.

Other alternative since it’s sunny now and assuming the water has cleared down is to pour a drain unblocker like https://www.amazon.co.uk/HG-Liquid-Drain-Unblocker-1L/dp/B000IU3VS0 down the bath of the topmost flat.

You can use this lye to make soap (or clean your drains). After you make soap, keep part of it for yourself and give the rest away as gifts to make others happy!

u/KenNotKent · 1 pointr/food

Got mine here. Shipping adds a bit to the price, but I still have a bunch and I've made many dozens of pretzels.

Just read up on using the stuff before hand. It is very caustic. I know from experiance that a small amount of solution splashed on your skin can go unnoticed for several minutes and result in a nasty "burn" and a permanent scar.

As an alternative you can bake regular baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) to form sodium carbonate using the method outlined here. Not nearly as dangerous but still stronger than simple baking soda.

u/ionic_gold · 7 pointsr/chemistry

$200 for 50g of copper sulfate... am I reading that correctly? That must be some pretty damn research grade pure copper sulfate for them to charge that much. For just crystal growing, as OP seemed to want to use it for, you can easily get away with using something like this off amazon, which is 16 bucks for 2 pounds of the stuff.

u/chefdequeeresine · 2 pointsr/bartenders

At my place we use BioMop. For nooks and crannies we put it into a spray bottle and dilute it 50:50 with water. Spray it on and just leave it, it's an enzyme that will eat organic material. It will take a few applications if there's a lot of buildup but it does work quite well in my experience. Also great for drains if you're having fruit fly problems.

u/profnick · 18 pointsr/chemistry

Rooto isn't sulfuric acid, it's lye (sodium hydroxide).

Putting baking soda or other alkaline solutions on your clothes and in your closet isn't going to help, as NaOH is already extremely basic. Your best bet to neutralize the residue is a weak acid like white vinegar (acetic acid) or a citric acid-based detergent/cleaner (most coffee pot cleaning solutions are either citric acid or silicic acid), after which you should wash out the acid and salt with normal soap & water.

You should avoid touching any of the residue before you neutralize it because NaOH is extremely hygroscopic (it will absorb moisture from the atmosphere) and an aqueous NaOH solution can give you severe chemical burns. I'd recommend wearing heavy kitchen gloves and possibly goggles if there's a possibility of splashing.

u/ThaScoopALoop · 4 pointsr/IAmA

Similarly, there are products out there that are caustic soda and lye crystals. As long as your drain is slowly draining, you can use these to clear a hair clog. It is basically industrial strength baking soda. https://www.amazon.com/Oatey-20410-Glug-Drain-Opener/dp/B004EVJ2M8

You can try to find an extra long flexible retrival tool like this. Based on the pic you posted on the original thread it looks like you might be able to use it to get a grip on the edge of the phone case.

u/edman007-work · 22 pointsr/AskEngineers

Huh, still working on this, my inputs with the effort you've gone through.

  1. What are the walls made of, is destroying a wall and repairing it an option? If this is a sheetrock wall, at this point I'd just go to the other side, cut through it, grab the phone and repair the wall.

  2. Do you have something that can be stuffed between the wall to pull it up, I'm thinking something like a rubber ball on a coat hanger, force it between the phone and wall and then pull it up. An inflatable ball would be ideal

  3. Don't use a coat hanger, use a fish tape, do you have one? can you get one? You would need to make it so it has a right angled bend on it so it can go under the phone and then pulled up. Maybe a U shape.

  4. I would see if you can use a vacuum cleaner and get enough suction on it.

  5. And the easiest thing (but last I thought of), buy this, now you're done.

https://www.amazon.com/Drain-Sucker-condensate-repair-treatment/dp/B008PCK80M/ is the one I have. I'm not affiliated with it in any way other than being a satisfied customer. I'd say that $60 is too expensive for what it is, but it's saved me a lot more money than that, so I'm good.

Get you some of this. Use hot water, let it sit for a bit and it'll clean the hair out, and break down the rest. It will be little micro beads/pellets. So if you can get as much of that part in the drain then flush it. It may take it about 5-10 minutes to work it way through, especially if there is a good wad.

u/zombeye · 2 pointsr/AskReddit

I keep a jar of lye around and sprinkle a tsp or so in drains when they start to drain slowly. Let it sit for 30 mins or so, rinse with cold water, good to go for another six months.

Seriously caustic though so handle with extreme care. Also I find it gets caked up from the tiny amount of moisture that gets in the jar when opened. So after a few years I have to buy another jar.

A flexible grabber tool might do the trick. This one is 60 inches long, hopefully that would be long enough. You might be able to buy a similar or longer one at a hardware store.

If you're confident in yourself, use lye. You can see there difference in post from a while back.

u/SilenceSeven · 1 pointr/castiron

Home Depot, at least in California doesn't sell 100% lye. Lowe's and Ace Hardware do though. Better to get it online, much cheaper.

u/istrebitjel · 2 pointsr/foodhacks

Or, you know, don't be a chicken and use lye, because it tastes much better.

I recommend this.

Yup, same as your second link. Pure Lye.

u/tuckerthrowaway · 1 pointr/DMT

I think the 5% might mean percentage of total solution?? I used this, which is 99% pure and works just fine (it's also what most ppl use as a base): http://www.amazon.com/Sodium-Hydroxide-Grade-Devil-Caustic/dp/B0039CPO34/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1412634843&sr=8-1&keywords=red+devil+lye

Did not dilute the lye. Added it just like the tek says (sort of, I wasn't using 1kg of bark).

I think you're confused about the precipitation part. After you add the lye, you shake and let it set for a minute (the jar will get really hot because of the exothermal reaction, so I unscrew the lid a bit to release any pressure during this phase). While the "soup" is still warm, you add the naptha. Shake for about 20 seconds every couple of minutes.

You should start to see your mix seperate into 3 layers. Bottom layer will be base and plant matter, middle layer should be thin and is only emulsion, the tope layer will be naptha with your DMT suspended in it.

The precipitation part happens once you extract the naptha (top layer) and cool it down to allow the DMT to crystallize.

The step you're thinking about (cooling off in the fridge) happens after the acid boil, and before you add any lye.

Its actually not that hard to purchase, my dad recently opened a Bavarian bakery. After moving to the States from Germany and being depressed for not being able to get good bread, and Pretzels of course. So now he just makes them and sells them.

Why do you need lye?

If you want it for pretzels, you have to use "food grade" lye, you don't use laboratory sodium hydroxide.

One day the customs investigators came to my office because my coworker ordered lye for making pretzels. Apparently you also use it to manufacture roofies. The packaging doesn't help.

u/M8asonmiller · 1 pointr/soapmaking

You know now that you mention it I don't even know how pure it is. Here's its listing on Amazon, where I bought it from. I was under the impression that food grade means it's very pure, but now I'm not so sure. That's weird.

Definitely makes a big difference using lye vs baking soda. It's really not that big a deal to work with, just use common sense. If you do get a little bit on you, put some vinegar on it right away to neutralize it.

I've been adding 2tbsp lye to 32 ounces of water (never water to lye!), then dropping pretzels into boiling water for a few seconds. Sorry for crappy pic: https://i.imgur.com/8SBXWIa.jpg

DON'T DO THIS

^but If you're dumb enough to do this, do it outside and wear eye and ear protection

Get some lye and some magnesium shavings, a large wax candle or wax block, and a granite crucible. Mix the lye and magnesium together at about a 1:1 ratio in the crucible, and melt the wax in a separate container. Light the magnesium and let it burn for a while, and then put it out after the blinding light and sparks stop by pouring the wax over it. There will be chunks of metal left over, these are elemental sodium. Just the tinyest bit in water will create a similar reaction.

u/jrblast · 2 pointsr/Cooking

>introduce me to no more toxic metals than eating fresh fish or drinking tap water

The toxic metals aren't the problem. It the random other crap that could be in there. I don't know what's in there, but is it really worth the risk?

I mean, you're probably right and all [Edit: After reading remidiality's reply, I'm not as sure about this], but even if there's a 1% chance that you're wrong, is that worth it? 1% is still a pretty high chance. Then you might also run into issues like the Zicam thing where they put Zinc in their 'homeopathic' nasal spray, which caused people to lose their sense of smell.

I'm assuming you live in the US, in which case I'll point you to this which was the first thing I found. That's a crap ton of lye for <$20. Seriously, how much could you possibly save by going for the lab stuff? Is $20 really that much that you would risk serious illness or worse?

Edit: By the way, if my tone seems a bit harsh or critical, I'm sorry, but I don't want you to accidentally kill yourself.
