I recommend reading the book "Redeeming Love" by Francine Rivers.
Sex is beautiful gift from God to us to enjoy with the love of our spouse/future spouse. Like you say, it is also a wonderful gift from us to our spouse/future spouse. However, sex might be important for a healthy marriage but know that it isn't everything. There is a lot more to a marriage than intercourse, intimacy; sex. If you marry this man, then know that he will make mistakes because he is not perfect -- when that happens, will you be there to pick him up and encourage him or will you tare him down? Will you forgive him? A healthy, strong and loving marriage revolves around God and forgiving your spouse is one of the greatest 'actions' we can do for our brethren... just as God does daily for us. To me, and in my marriage, sacrificial love appears to be one of the biggest keys to our healthy marriage alongside communication and loving forgiveness. Like I said, sex is a beautiful gift from God that we share with our love, but it isn't everything in a marriage. I pray and encourage you to forgive this man because in God's eyes he is pure... Show the world that a God-loving, a God-fearing couple can overcome the desires of our hearts to condemn one another by the simple act of forgiveness and compassion. It isn't easy and neither is a life of marriage.

Well, let's see. For the childhood classic favorites I think of when I think of AoGG, there's Little Women, and its two sequels Little Men and Jo's Boys; The Secret Garden; I also really remember enjoying Christy, but I really haven't read that in years, so I don't know how well it's held up.

When I got a little older, it was time for The Chronicles of Narnia and the Lord of the Rings...both of which I think I read yearly at least until college.

As for what I read now, I'm a big SF/F nerd. My favorite author, easily, is Sharon Shinn, who writes fantasy with strong romantic elements--not "romance" novels, per se, but her stories, at the core, are usually love stories for at least one of the characters, with excellent dialogue and set in pretty interesting, well-developed worlds.

Other authors I like in a similar fantasy/romance vein are Jacqueline Carey
and Juliet Marillier. I haven't read everything they've written like I have with Sharon Shinn (or close enough to it, basically) so if you're interested in either one of them I'd be happy to give you more specific recommendations based on which books of theirs I've read myself.

Nothing gives the ladies of Paradise greater pleasure than attempting to marry off their newest teacher.
Jack Adams swallows his dread when he sees Maria and Anne trotting his way, each herding an eligible, unattached young lady. He came to Victorious Christian Academy to teach. Unfortunately, the matchmakers in the church have much bigger plans for him.

Running seems the best option, but he can’t hide in the church kitchen, or the school library, for the rest of his life – even if librarian Melissa Barnes would let him.

Now Jack finds himself the gold medal prize in a matchmaking competition worthy of the Olympics.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Melissa Barnes can’t say no to a person in need, and that includes helping Anne and Maria set up the new guy with their choices for his one true love.
Why they think she can help when she can’t even make a match for herself, she still hasn’t figured out, and it’s not like Jack Adams would ever take an interest in her, so what’s the worst that could happen?
There's no question, there will be a winner in the matchmaking event of the century. Only question is, will the best girl win?
This is a Christian novella, at about 27,000 words.
My favorite is a bit odd. I love the story of Hosea.
You have to read between the lines quite a bit, but God calls Hosea, a holy prophet, to marry a prostitute. He's thinking, OK, God, but I'm gonna have to make sure it's you first...lol.
So he marries Gomer, and they have a couple of kids. The way the Hebrew reads, the first is probably his, but the second, there is no mention of his being involved.
Then they split up. She could not remain faithful to him. Time goes by. Eventually he's going to the market, and there he sees her: on the auction block being sold as a slave.
God tells him to "buy back" his wife, and command her to live with him and him only from that point on.
The whole scenario is an analogy of Israel's relationship with God, and deeper than that, our relationship with God. We are, and have been unfaithful to God, repeatedly, and sold into slavery to sin. But God, through Jesus, bought us back to be faithful to Him.
It's a wonderful love story, and a great Biblical lesson. I love it.
There is a fictional re-telling of it by Francine Rivers, called "Redeeming Love" available at Amazon. I have not been paid for this endorsement...:)
My suggestions don't really explain the Bible, but they are thought-provoking and fascinating if you like science.
Creation and Time
Beyond the Cosmos (I found this book really interesting.)
The Creator and the Cosmos
The Fingerprint of God
These are all by the same guy, and I really enjoyed them a great deal, so I fully recommend them to you.
I also enjoy Christian fantasy books, for example:
The Dragon King Trilogy: In the Hall of the Dragon King
The Warlords of Nin
The Sword and the Flame
The Pendragon Cycle: Taliesin
Merlin
Arthur
Pendragon
Grail
To be honest, I haven't read the last two, they weren't out yet when I read these books.
I also recommend some classics like Lilith by George MacDonald.
The Case for Christ
Anyway, that's all I can think of at this time. If I think of anything else, I'll update this list.
Second Chance Ranch - A Sweet Billionaire Romance .
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07RLVSVT4
In this book, I've put a unique twist on a typical love story where two orphans meet and start to fall in love. But the secrets in their past might be enough to keep them together in spite of the attraction they feel for one another.
I've also included a link to the Audiobook version of this INSIDE of the ebook as well in case you're busy and would like to listen to it. I hope you enjoy it!
/u/HamsterFarm - Merry Christmas!
I have this on my Digital list that I'd love to read. It's a holiday story :)
Firefighter Micah Freeman is the pillar of faith at fire station #9. He's the one everyone turns to in their hour of need. A man of steel in every regard, but even steel has a breaking point.
When a tragedy strikes close to home, Micah's faith is challenged far beyond anything he has ever encountered. Truly relying on God for strength, Micah must find a way to put the pieces back together and find the peace he once had.
"After the Fire by T. K. Chapin end this series with a breathing taking read."
"A real illustration of Romans 8:28 “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”"
"...even though Micah is a man of faith and has helped others, he is hit with something that shocks him and shakes his solid foundation."
This is part of a series and it kind of broke my heart - but they're all good:
https://www.amazon.com/When-Parents-Forgot-Friends-About/dp/0764131729/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1543117725&sr=8-13&keywords=books+about+divorce+for+young+children
Maybe a bit too young for a 10 yo, esp if your child is a girl.
This is great but only for a good 10 yo reader... just deals with grief and tragedy in childhood well:
https://www.amazon.com/Thing-About-Jellyfish-Ali-Benjamin/dp/0316380849/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1543117858&sr=8-10&keywords=books+about+divorce+for+young+children
This too. I tried to read it but it broke my heart but it helped my son:
https://www.amazon.com/Things-We-Knew-Catherine-West/dp/0718078101/ref=sr_1_14?ie=UTF8&qid=1543118051&sr=8-14&keywords=books+about+divorce+for+young+children
Edit: Mostly kids feel suddenly like things aren't as they should be and the fictionalized version of this in Young Adult (which is where 10 yos often are now, sadly) has a deep and awesome history going back to Judy Bloom.
I'm finding them pretty easily for Kindle. Are you accessing Amazon from a different country's domain? That might be the issue. Here's a link to the Kindle version of Vol. 30.
Like /u/PhilosofizeThis said, the stories lean heavily on the genre side, with most being Sci-Fi and Fantasy. Honestly, though, the quality isn't much different than what you'd see in the big SFF magazines such as Lightspeed, Clarkesworld, Analog, Asimov's, etc.
The one difference from the above-mentioned magazines is the length of the stories, though not all of them go up to 17k words. I'd say most are in the 8k-10k range.
Definitely worth reading, especially if you're a short story writer looking to improve.
u/sparklingwaterll · 1 pointr/kindle
I would say it could be 2 things. You either didn't install the DRM removal plugin correctly. Or you purchased the book directly on a kindle or purchased it for your kindle. First see if you can remove DRM on other AZW3 books. Try this free one to test it. Make sure you always purchase books from a computer and for that computer first. It is still added to your cloud and can be added to kindle devices. Otherwise when purchased on/for a kindle it can add an extra individual encryption to that specific kindle. How-to-geek explains how to add your kindle serial number so that it can decrypt even books purchased on/for a kindle.
Edit: O is it one of those connect by usb to download the book? if what I explained doesn't work. I'd complain to amazon chat support either way and they will probably send you a working version. More then happy to help if you have more questions.
This book rules
https://www.amazon.com/Curiosity-Joan-Thomas/dp/0771084188/184-7944515-2601433?ie=UTF8&*Version*=1&*entries*=0
It's subtitled "a love story", which is hella bleak because Mary just loved her fossils, and all those dudes just loved ripping her off.
u/fexam · 1 pointr/Christianity
So, I found this book a few years ago.
It is a different kind of thing, but very interesting. It is a fictional story of a man going through some spiritual searching. It makes you think through parables. I loved it; actually should go and buy a copy sometime.
Yeah, it's too wacky for analogies.
I haven't read it, but I hear that https://www.amazon.com/Redeeming-Love-Francine-Rivers/dp/1590525132 is a pretty interesting "modern" retelling of the book of Hosea.
I know my mom likes All is Calm, All is Bright. Romance plus mystery.
In addition to these five, he wrote a number of other short pieces set in the holiday season. These were mostly published in the periodicals of the day. Amazon has a collection for free, here.
