I AM IN YOUR SITUATION! Just got on this board three days ago. Spent $200 over the past three days and I've drastically improved my wardrobe.

1. Go through the right hand guides of knowing what fits you and what not. If you're an athletic type, go to /r/malefashionadvice there is a post on athletic builds if you fit that description. The most important thing is understanding what fits. I bought a medium out of shame of rather not buying a small convincing myself that the somewhat baggy look was better. I went back to smalls and I realized how much better I looked.

2. Shoes! Get yourself a pair of from what a newbie understands as "classy" shoes. You're in college so you're surrounded by meat heads, swag vags, and sweatpants wearing ants, and the occassional look at me I wear crazy shit. Most of the time, they're wearing Nikes, Addidas, Underarmor, and other shit that you probably have. You'll get the occassional mocassin and boots, but what'll make you really stand out in terms of fashion is your shoes. This is good. MFA is (in my opinion off a brief 3 day lurking): classy, mature, timeless, and just overall attractive male attire.

So! The investment I made were Brown Suede Clarks for $70 @ Journeys in NYC Best investment so far. I've never owned anything so nice yet casual as these shoes. They're extremely comfortable.

For $21 you can get Seude Oxfords at JC Penny. Another cheap and truly great shoe. Just looks plain good with anything. I got mine for $15 because I was very patient and nice to the saleswoman (mid 50s); she gave me a wink and said I'll take some off for ya.

3. Pants I would go again with the suggestion of jeans. 511 - Skinny, 514 - Slim Straight. These are Levi's obviously. I've owned Arizona, Lee, and Wrangler; Levi's are just unbeatable. For $40 and sometimes $30 you can get a pair. I would get one pair of Levi's. Make sure it's a pair you definitely would love.

One pair of Khakis. If you're in New York City, get over to Uniqlo and get yourself a pair of $30 really good quality chinos (khakis). They can be tailored in the store so don't be afraid if you see 33x36 pants or 30x34 pants. They can be cut for free. Otherwise stop by Amazon to get D1 Slims or Alphas.

GAP has a sale going on for 40% off or 30% without a coupon. They have a limited selection of pretty good quality khakis that are fitting and are decent when it comes to price ($40-$50).

4. Tops Old Navy. It was up there that their premium t-shirts are on sale for Buy One Get One Free. They're pretty good quality for $6 bucks a pop ($12 for one, so you get 2 for essentailly $6). I grabbed some myself. Theres a coupon for 10% online somewhere. I used it. However, Old Navy fits may not be so kind on you as they are with me. As their sizes scale, it scales wider; it does not scale with benevolence longer.

Graphic Tees are alright in college. Again plain simple colors/patterns will distinguish you from the highschool attire that even these 2nd semester freshies will be wearing.

For your budget, I would take your time shopping the clearance racks of most department stores. I went to JCPenny the other day and found a slim fitting GREAT purple J. Ferrar shirt for $7. For the way it fits and the decent quality, this button down shirt was an absolute steal. I also bought 2 $12 dollar button downs from Macys that happened to fit me perfectly. Again it's on where you're looking.

Polos Polos are easy to come by. Old Navy has em as do most stores. Whether you like them with a logo or plain, even Ralph Lauren Polos can be spotted on the cheap. Do you barging.

5. Outerwear Cardingans are on clearance in the Old Navy rack for $6-12. I picked up one. I picked up a great fitting hoodie from there as well for $7. Fits me perfect and shows off my muscles /flex.

If you've heard of a store called Against All Odds, they have a good selection of outwear (more swagster area and ghetto-fab), but it's better especially for the athletic fit. They have some sales and the quality isn't atrocious. You can check that out.

Thrifting Theres a thread on the side; hopefully you don't need a link.

Lets Review

  • Take your time, browse accordingly. There is no need to rush.
  • Look everywhere and always check the clearance.
  • Make sure the clothes fit, if you like the style but are a little iffy on the fit do not buy it unless you think it'll shrink on to you.

What I did in the past 3 days:

  • $80 Clarks
  • $22 Bass @ J C Penny's + J. Ferrar Slim Shirt
  • $12 2 Old Navy Premium V-Neck Shirts
  • $8 Cardingan at Old Navy
  • $7 Hoodie at Old Navy
  • $40 Levi 514 Jeans
  • $30 Chinos @ Uniqlo (add 5-10 dollars for Dockers)

    Total: $193

Hopefully that'll set you up. If you're not iffy on spending that much on Clarks, then there is more in your budget for other things like pants or underwear.

Anyways, go here if you want $100 starter kits.

Good Luck and let me know of your great finds.

Pants stick out the most to me.

IMO black jeans are some of the most versatile pants you can get.

I'd get a pair of those. I personally love these, but if that's too skinny/too much, I've heard great things about Levi's 511.

Next, like a lot of other people have said, a minimal white sneaker is king. For your price point, look in to Van's Sk8 Hi for a really casual/skater look, Stan Smith's in White/Blue for a more simple look (reading back over this, I realized you were in Italy - Stan Smiths are so fucking popular it's ridiculous. As are the Adidas Gazelles. Not bad options if you want to fit in, but keep in mind you'll be wearing what everyone else is wearing). Honorable mentions are the Converse Chuck Taylor II Highs and Lows. These might be hard to find on amazon.it but make sure you're getting the Converse Chuck Taylor II - they updated the sole and it's one of the most comfortable sneakers you can get. Durable and iconic as well.

You said you're in Italy, so I reckon you're not -too- worried about heavy outerwear.

Honestly, I'd skimp on the watch if I were you - it's an accessory and IMO not nearly as important as the other staples. If you do get a watch, Timex watches are fairly popular among MFA users and pretty cheap on amazon.

Polo 3 isn't actually that large. Nor is 5. Orange is a hard color to pull off though, so I'd personally avoid wearing that.

Lots of Americans dislike polos but I spent this summer in Italy and polos were super popular so just keep doing that I guess.

I will say, all of your shirts are wrinkled. Like straight up all of them. After taking your clothes out of the dryer, hang them up. Maybe buy some hangers if you don't currently own any. Hanging them up cuts the wrinkles down so much.

If the product is available in Italy, these Gildan shirts are great quality for the money. They're not amazing but you get a lot of options. There are several options there for different packages, but I'd stick to toned down options. When most people start caring about how they dress, they don't really know how to incorporate/coordinate color properly. Low-saturation is easy to coordinate. Black/blue/greys/whites/earthtones. For example, there's a deal going on for people in the U.S. right now to mix and match tops. You can see it here. I think these outfits are done really well overall, but as you can see the colors are really muted.

A large part of looking good is in the hair - your hair in the last 2 pictures looks super good. If you need product to do that, I'd use part of the $500 to get that. Keep that shit up.

Also look into cologne - Amazon is a pretty decent place to get them. I personally love Bvlgari Man Extreme and I get it through Amazon. Consider stopping by a Sephora or something and testing out colognes to find one you like - you can typically find it on Amazon for about $60 for 3 Oz.

I'd also stay away from V-necks as much as possible. Might just be me, but I really hate them.

I'd also consider no-show socks. I realize you're in Milan, so if you want to go all in on the Milan look, I'd suggest the following:

Simple, well-fitting shirts.
Black skinny jeans, pinrolled.
White sneakers - Stan Smiths and Superstars are ubiquitous in Milan.
No-show socks.

Your one suit is great. Make sure you have a dress belt that matches the shoes you wear with your suit. A suit without a belt is hard to pull off.

When shopping on amazon - be sure to avoid shit like this. Cheap, chinese made, won't look anything like the product pictures. This sums it up pretty well. Buy stuff from brands you've heard of - you've heard of them for a reason. That being said, only buy shoes from shoe companies and clothes from clothes companies. Tommy Hillfiger and Calvin Klein and the like make decent clothes but terrible, terrible shoes.

I looked through jackets on amazon.it and this was the best I could come up with - not cheap by any means, but it'll be good quality and bombers are super ubiquitous, esp in Milan. Unfortunately, it's still about $90 but jackets get expensive quickly. It would be smart to get a simple sweatshirt or hoodie. This can be layered under the bomber for a cold night. I'd stray away from a zip up hoodie, as your bomber already has the edit zipper***.

I also just remembered that Cheap Monday is super popular in Europe - This is a great option. Low vans are also good shoes to consider.

That's uhhh... all that comes to mind. It's super disorganized and I threw a lot at ya so have fun with that. Super jealous that you get to go to school in Milan. Have tons of fun dude.

I've been trying all types of micromodal underwear. I bought all citizens, me undies, and some cheap ones from Amazon Lapasa Men's 4-Pack Boxer Briefs Micro Modal ULTRA SOFT Low Rise No-Fly Trunk M02 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01FEWD9RO/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apap_MJJL2tNnFhsKq

In terms of comfort all citizens - me undies - cheap Amazon one from best to worst. I really like the elastic around the thighs so they don't round up. The medium in all citizens is a little bigger than me undies but fits well. I'm a size 31 waist. The meundies medium are tighter fitting but still a medium. Cheap Amazon ones the medium is like a small and rides up.

In terms of style meundies- all citizens, cheap Amazon one. I got the cheetah print ones and am in love with the style. They are bright and loud but are sexy and fun. The all citizens feels more like workout gear while meundies feels more sexy and playful. Yes I described these as sexy but don't we all went to look good in underwear.

I would say all citizens are good weekday underwear where meundies is good if you are going to get someone that will see you in undies.

I'm close to your size. 5'11" and 150lbs. New to MFA and trying to look nicer. My office is casual dress, so I'm not wearing ties or anything, but here's what I've recently done.

I used to buy large size shirts/polos from express. Unfortunately, all of them are way too big after learning the way on MFA. So I've recently started updating my dress with some of the following things.

Red Wing Heritage Beckmans
These ran me just under $300 from a red wing store (they have a $20 off coupon on their website here )
I'm still breaking these in and having a rough time of it. One of the boots fits great, the other is horribly uncomfortable. I'm going to take them in to see if something is wrong with them, but if they don't get better they have a 30 day unconditional return policy.

Allen Edmond Sedona Penny Loafer I really wanted these to work. I like the look, and figured I could wear them with jeans at work or with shorts after leaving. 12B's were too loose, 11.5B's were too tight. The salesman said these particular penny loafers just don't work well with my narrow feet. I'm now trying the Made To Fit program at Rancourt. Hopefully they fit better.

J.Crew Factory Oxford The weekend I went I must have gotten lucky because it was 50% off everything in store. I don't think that's too common, though they did just have a 40% off sale. J.Crew Factory is their outlet store. Haven't shopped at the regular one. I bought several of these shirts. The smalls fit me best, but the sleeves were uncomfortably short. I know I could just roll them but I got the mediums since they didn't look bad either and could be worn with sleeves rolled or not. I always tuck in the oxford shirts, they don't look bad un-tucked (they do have tails but not horrible long ones) but you'll look more put together if they're tucked in.

Banana Republic Dress Shirts I think mine are the tailored fit, but honestly didn't check in store. I just tried some on and got what fit. The small size here fit me very nice. Sleeves are perfect length but I am a little worried they'll shrink. I was told in store they were pre-washed. They also had a 50% off sale at the Factory outlet store, thought I think this is pretty common at BR. 30 day price match policy for future sales. Just keep the receipt.

Mossimo V-Neck Tee I wear these as undershirts at work and by themselves with shorts after work. Some people say not to wear undershirts, but I like to just because it keeps me from having to wash my buttom ups as often. These are pretty tight to the neck v-neck's, so they are visible under the button ups. Size small fit me nice and snug. They were on sale for $8 last week. Target has a 14 day price match policy if they lower the price after you purchase them. You need your receipt.

Levi 514 Slim Straight Jeans I was used to wearing express jeans, but lately the crotch area didn't fit right and they usually had pretty crazy washes. Everyone here will recommend more of a taper in the Levi 513 but I didn't feel comfortable with those yet. Maybe in 6 months or so I'll try again. I just got them from Macy's. Can't remember the sale. Got 32x32's. Tried 31x32's but they were VERY tight in the crotch. IMPO quality and consistency in sizing varies quite a bit. Try on every pair. I got a pair of 32x32's that were 1.5 inches shorter than the others. Ridiculous, though they are cheap jeans to get started with.

I try not to wear polo's anymore. After starting to pay more attention to my appearance and watching other people, I realize that almost nobody looks flattering in a polo. Just my opinion though.

This might be more casual than what you were looking for, but hopefully it helps someone!

u/CARTERsauce · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

The only link you provided that I approve of are the Sperry Top-Siders. I found the Ice to be very versatile and the solid black have recieved compliments as they aren't very common. Both versatile. Good with shorts and could even be formal enough for a summer wedding. Oatmeal, Sahara/Brown Buc Brown for a basic, well, brown.

For a watch I'll make a few personal suggestions. Of course, the Timex Easy Reader, Brown & Black. Bonus: Black face. This Seiko for a silver watch and I like this black Citizen Eco Drive as well.

Get some basic chino's in a good slim fit like the Dockers Alpha Khaki and some basic flat front shorts from Patagonia.

American Apparel for some staples. Cut down on your graphic tee's and get some plain stuff! I really like the Tri-Blend 50/25/25 Track Shirt for tee's, so comfortable. The black is actually a really dark grey, because of the nature of 'the blend', I really like it and it matches these dark grey twill plimsolls I have perfectly. They have great thin sweaters and cardigans too, browse what's available on Amazon, go on their website to see better images and what else they offer.

I don't mean to totally disregard your choices, I'm just showing you some items that I like, some good basics, and that's all I can muster before I head to bed.

Also, are you sure you're really a 32 inch waist at 6ft 150lbs?

u/obamaisabuddhist · 3 pointsr/frugalmalefashion

We are almost exactly the same size -- I am 5'7" and a shade under 160. 30" inseam is also too long for me, and I prefer absolutely no break.

I really love the Dockers Alpha Khaki in Slim Tapered, and the great thing is that you can get them with a 29" inseam, which is perfect for me.

You'll see they're normally $50 on Amazon. I know that seems like a lot, but consider the fact that you're getting a well-fitting pair of pants that will be fairly durable and meet multiple needs.

You can also set up a price alert on a site like camelcamelcamel.com and wait for your preferred colors and sizes to go on sale. Starting with tan and grey is a great idea, as those colors will go with most anything.

For jeans, I'd start with Levis 511s, again with a 29" inseam. The Rinsed Playa is a popular and versatile color. After that you can go for black or grey.

As for shoes, I would keep an eye out for inexpensive ones in the B/S/T thread. I'm assuming you're on your feet most of the time at your retail gig, and most cheap shoes are not going to be comfortable for that. Better to find something used and higher-quality that won't kill your feet. I think best of all would be to assemble a set of shoes, three or so pairs.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

u/Fivelon · 30 pointsr/BuyItForLife

Links:

The Flint and Tinder Ten-Year Hoodie. This was a recent purchase for me. It's as durable as they say, and I mean, come on, you're gonna want a hoodie. It gets chilly sometimes.

True Fabrications True-Tap Wine Key. I'm a bartener, and this is the best cork and cap opener out there, hands down.

My favorite hat ever. I owned one of these for ten years. It can fold up around the brim and stow in your pocket or bag very easily. Keeps the sun off your face, keeps your head warm(ish), and can be pulled down over your eyes for a nap. Only reason I don't own one of these now is it was stolen.

Xiaomi Piston earbuds. Excellent earbuds for the price. There are absolutely better ones out there, but if you're travelling you should plan on losing them at some point. Good enough to be worth having, cheap enough that you won't cry when they get lost.

The indispensible Bic Lighter. It's a Bic lighter. There's just not a better lighter. Don't say Zippo; they're garbage. There are fancier lighters out there, but there are not better lighters than a Bic.

The Fenix E25 Flashlight. Uses AAs, very bright, big enough to be comfortable to use while small enough to travel with. Fits nicely into universal bicycle handlebar clamps.

Classic Swiss Army Knife. On Swiss Army knives, you'll find the scissors to be worthless but the knife, file, and screwdrivers can be indispensible.

On that note, the Gerber Multitool. Leatherman notwithstanding, the Gerber multitool is fantastic. Potayto, potahto.

Ahh, the Fisher Space Pen. I much prefer the "bullet" model. This thing is great. Tiny when it's closed up, but when you put the cap on the back it's a full-sized pen that writes phenomenally. It's hard to break, and the cartridges have ordering information printed right on 'em for when you run it dry. If you're not into calligraphy and just need something to write with, this is a great pen.

Rotring 600 mechanical pencil You're gonna need a pencil to go with that pen. Try this one.

The best "living out of a bag" bag I've ever had. This thing will hold all your shit plus some of your buddy's. Rainproof (trust me on this), huge, comfortable, indestructible. This was my everyday carry bag for a decade before it was stolen out of my car, along with several of my other long-lasting things. I collect BIFL shit. I've switched apartments a hundred times, lived in a car, lived in friends' garages, and basically spent the years from age 16-24 lugging around this backpack from place to place with most of my belongings in it. It's an incredible bag.

Shoes are a different story. You'll want something comfy but durable--check out r/goodyearwelt. Those guys know their shoes.

Pants are good too! Levi 501s are notoriously decent, and I'm partial to Dickies 874 work pants. The Dickies work pants are a little bit lighter and more breathable, but the pockets and belt loops are a little restrictive. Very durable, though, and comfy!

  • J.Crew Montague Leather Weekender

I looked through previous MFA posts for weekend bags/duffels but loved the Montague as soon as I saw it..

  • Dockers Alpha Chinos - Khaki

Picked these up for casual weekend wear. They fit pretty slim on the thighs but they feel alright! I usually wear J.Crew's urban slim fit which fits me perfectly but I wanted to branch out and try the Alphas from MFA advice.

  • Brooks Brothers Milano Fit Plain-Front Non-Iron Advantage Chinos: Khaki & Tan

These feel even slimmer than the Dockers Alpha Chinos. I'm using these for more casual work days at the office during the summer months. Kinda hoping for something a tad roomier but don't want to wear parachute pants either.

    *****

What's Next? Saving up for some OSB Navy Suede Red Brick Trail Oxfords, looking around for some lightweight slim-fit (not as slim as the BB's Milano-Fit or Dockers Alpha fit) wool trousers for the office (ePaulet?), etc. I've looked around MFA but was wondering if ePaulet is where I should look?
u/diamond29 · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

I'm 6 foot and 165ish pounds, but I'm also 22. Here are some quick staples of my wardrobe that I'd recommend that are safe enough that you won't be made fun of and that you can still find cheaply.

LEC button ups - I sized small but you may be able to get away with mediums since you're a bit bigger than I am. These are cheap as hell on sale so they're great to get a lot of, in case you're worried about wearing the same shirt too often.

Levi's 508 - I have an above average thigh/ass to waist proportion, so these achieve a skinnier look while not strangling my dick. My pair is rigid envy and I use a cuff. Stock photos are bad btw.

Dockers Alpha Khakis - Same deal as the jeans. These might be a little more tight in the thigh/dick region, but I still like mine a lot.

Sperries / Keds - Boat shoes are great for casual wear, although obviously a ton of people are going to be wearing them. A cheap pair of keds (plimsolls) are also good, and fewer people tend to wear them.

[American Optical Aviators] (http://www.pilotshop.nl/contents/media/helmet.jpg) - These bad boys used to be standard issue for pilots and I'm pretty sure that they were worn by astronauts during the apollo missions, so you know they're a good value at only $40.

Belt - I got a custom belt made at Narangasset Leathers that's pretty decent for $45, if I remember correctly. Any belt will do, but don't lay down money on a cheap one if you can get some decent leather. You'll end up throwing it out after a year or two of frequent use, and that's just a waste of money.

Harrington jacket - I really like this style of jacket and I have a wool version of the one pictured here, although mine is a much slimmer fit (I just couldn't find a good photo in under a minute). It's very simple and functional. If you can snag a cheap baracuta on ebay (usually around 100-150), you'll be getting a nice made-in-england jacket that comes with two zippers, meaning you can slightly unzip the bottom one while sitting, which gets rid of that weird poof that you get from being in that position.

I find that all of these go well together and I'm sure MFA agrees too. Keep in mind that these won't guarantee your drowning in pussy, but if you make sure to get clothes like these that are properly fitted, you might just find yourself waist deep.

u/dabezian · -4 pointsr/malefashionadvice

It may be a bit unorthodox, but my "suit" is comprised of Dockers D1s (matching the color of your coat, of course) and any well fitting suit coat. You can get the pants for ~$45, coat for ~$150-200. You could shell out more to get that coat well tailored. It looks much better than what any of my friends are wearing.

Yes, I know that the pants are technically khakis and not suit pants. They're all dress pants. No one will notice unless they grab your pants and feel them. You will look fashionable for a fraction of the price. Trust me on this. I've gotten a lot of compliments on my "suit." It is MUCH harder (and expensive) to find slim fit pants in a matching suit set. Just make sure that the inseam is the right length and you're fine.

Edit: These are Dockers D1's.. I'd go with the gray (fog) pair and find a matching coat. Get it tailored to look slim cut. You seem to have a very similar build to me so it should look good. Gray also might not look best with your shoes, so you could spend the ~$250 you have left on a new pair of shoes.

I'm gonna spam my own fashion sense, I hope you like some of what I like ;p

If you want dresses, I would recommend one size fits all dresses off Amazon. Then you don't have to worry about cups that are not filled by breasts. I really love Sakkas brand, which you can find on Amazon. I have this, for example, and the top part is stretchy so it's basically one size fits all: https://www.amazon.com/Sakkas-103141-Adara-Batik-Dress/dp/B00K1ML5JW/ref=sr_1_33?ie=UTF8&qid=1482827864&sr=8-33&keywords=sakkas+dress

Or any cheap $10-$15 dress from a place like Forever 21 is so poorly designed that it is effectively one size fits all.

Here are some cute colorful socks:

https://www.amazon.com/HSELL-Colorful-Rainbow-Argyle-Multicolors/dp/B01DSKGV92/ref=sr_1_33?ie=UTF8&qid=1482827534&sr=8-33&keywords=one+size+fits+all+dress

I know a lot of people here also love those cat thigh high socks, like these:

https://www.amazon.com/Kawaii-Cartoon-Animal-Tattoo-Stockings/dp/B0163422D4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1482827633&sr=8-1&keywords=cat+thigh+high

I bought this in the past and I think it's kinda androgynous

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JKF0BNC/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Cape coats are technically women's fashion but they're so obscure that I think a lot of people don't know how to gender them

https://www.amazon.com/Artka-Womens-Embroidery-Turn-down-Collar/dp/B00F8A0C5U/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1482827761&sr=8-1&keywords=cape+coats

I also really love Mordenmiss jackets (also off Amazon). They're really loose and kinda art smock-y.

I bought this pair of boots a while back and they're really, really nice!

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KAI4GL6/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I've also bought these and I get tons of compliments on them

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00OMUIWD6/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I also have this Forever 21 dino sweatshirt and I can't walk 5 minutes without getting a compliment on it. Unfortunately it isn't sold in stores anymore, but this might help give more ideas of femme clothing.

https://cdnd.lystit.com/photos/2013/10/28/forever-21-blackgold-quirky-dinosaur-sweatshirt-product-1-14521999-527549268.jpeg

I think anything that is a "Women's [traditionally male clothing]" is bound to look fairly androgynous. Like women's button downs, women's sweatshirts and sweatpants, women's leather jackets, etc.

u/dignatius · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

How long does it take for bulking gainz to require replacing clothing?

Not sure if I should take advantage of this deal and get another pair of 511 or if I should start getting 508s etc. Also the recently arrived penfield gibson fits shoulders in S but body would fit perfectly in the XS, wait that out?

Fwiw I'm 5'8.5" 150lbs, this is my 5th week lifting, and I'm squatting 205 right now. I don't plan on getting huge legs, just want something somewhat proportional; I lift more for the mood/physical benefits and confidence than pride in stats.

u/chrisrico · 2 pointsr/sex

Man here, but I want to chime in and say that while expensive, these are the most fantastically comfortable underwear my junk has ever had the pleasure of hanging out in. They also look awesome, and my girlfriend loves them.

u/spewbert · 65 pointsr/malefashionadvice

I'm known for wearing bright, colorful socks to my office job each day. If you're spending every day dealing with stuffy, judgmental folks who might hamper your career progress, then you can always second-guess your sock choice, but I know plenty of successful folks who see their socks as the last bastion for playfulness in an otherwise prim-and-proper wardrobe.

Lots of the socks from Soxy and Happy Socks can be found on Amazon, since lots of those brands are filling out their selection with a bunch of generics made in china. Specifically look for HSELL and Deer Mum.

I really like these, and also these. They're the same exact product as many of the big sock retailers are selling, but for a fraction of the price.

u/verticalgradient · 2 pointsr/AskMen
u/US_Hiker · 2 pointsr/frugalmalefashion

It's not quite the same, but for rugged jackets, I'd look at a real M-65 field jacket, and get the button-in thinsulate liner. Mine is an actual issued item, and the quality is top notch. The fabric is extremely abrasion resistant, and they are in style now. It should last for a great many years.

You can't get issue ones outside of camo, which I'm sure you don't want (if they issue them still), but Alpha makes a very good product from my experience with other items. Here's their field jacket - ignore the main photo's goofy sleeves. They have a fold-down flap to keep the wind off your hands, and the model has this down, and the arms out to the largest setting, so it looks very goofy. Propper is another good brand, often US made.

Like a regular Carhartt or other chore coat, this also will be a bit bulkier than most fashion-conscious people will want, so I'd look at hitting a tailor after a while of wearing it. Taking out the hood will allow the collar to slim down a bit, pockets can be sewn down, etc, to streamline the look.

u/3hybrid · 1 pointr/tall

I really like the Levi 501 Timberwolf link which is their khaki color. Quality isn't extraordinary but I would say it's really good for the price. I don't know how you're built but I wear 34x36(37) and I found that the thighs on these jeans were too tight for my thighs(kind of big from working out) and the legs and bottoms were too flared out. Like I do with all my pants I took them to my tailor and had the thighs and crotch let out and the bottoms taken in and they now fit perfectly.

u/Ariisk · 1 pointr/FireflyFestival

There are cocktails and I think I remember there being marg/daquiri-type drinks available but I'm not 100% sure on it. I usually stick to the red bull buckets ($12, I think). A beer is like $6-7 for a bud light/corona, $9-10 for fancier stuff. Mixed drinks run $8-10ish.

If you want to save some money and have a bit more flexibility with drinks, invest in some collapsible flasks and stash briefs. You'll be a hero to everyone in your group.

My suggestions from time spent on here:

  1. Get him some Levi's 514 jeans. These are the best fitting jeans for non-super skinny people and they look awesome.

  2. Buy him some shirts at Zara. The pants are too skinny for my legs but the shirts are a nice cut and run ~$60.

  3. Finally, though they are simple, I love my Clark's Desert Boots. I bought them recently and couldn't be happier with my purchase.

These three things all work as birthday gifts, they're all returnable, and they all look good on most guys. Check them out and let me know if you decide to go with any of them.

These really work wonders, in fact they work TOO well that my underarms become overly dry, so I started using a goldbond lubricating antiperspirant in combination and now its perfect. I can even play ping pong in the resident lounge before rounds and i won't sweat through my dress shirt. Best of luck.

Rain pants are OK, but for many days where it's not very cold but quite wet, one can get really uncomfortable and sweaty underneath them. They also get stuck in my chain sometimes, and are baggy and annoying to take on and off.

I've switched away from rain pants and wear some cheap long johns [https://www.amazon.com/Duofold-Weight-Wicking-Thermal-Medium/dp/B006SRTGC2/ref=sr_1_1?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1487982787&sr=1-1&nodeID=1040658] under some loose but stretchy synthetic shorts. I pack my pants in my bag and change when I get there. I also leave a pair of nicer shoes at work and usually wear my cycling cleats. I leave everything sitting out (not just wadded up in a bag) all day and they are typically completely dry by the time I head home. I've found this arrangement to be much more comfortable than rain pants.

When the weather's nicer I just ride in on my jeans I wear at work. When it's dry and cold I wear the long johns under whatever pants I wear in. As far as my upper body goes, I've found that an undershirt and multiple layers really help keep me warm when it's very cold out.

Gloves are also important. I wear a pair of glove liners under cotton gloves. They both dry out pretty quickly at work.

u/caudric · 3 pointsr/malefashionadvice

AIRism underwear is honestly not that great in my experiece, it's OK as long as you can get it super cheap. If you have access to underwear that is micro modal like these or these by ExOfficio, they are much more comfortable. AIRism boxer briefs are mostly polyester which doesn't breathe as well imo.

pack layers and you can shed as needed: heres my layout

Base Layer:

I try to avoid cotton stuff cause of chafing, highly recommend exofficio if thats an issue.

runner leggings/thermal leggings

long sleeve work out material shirt/ thermal shirt

smartwool socks! smartwool is the best. I use it for backpacking too.

Second Layer:

arctix snow bibs from amazon : 40 (You want snow pants/bibs. getting snow all down your pants/up your back is awful.)

A flannel or other heavy shirt type

Third:

I have wantando jacket (70 from amazon) reeeealy warm. Hardly have worn it out and its been like 10-15 on the mountain. Id imagine I could wear it down to zero.

A lighter waterproof jacket incase the heavy jacket is too much.

Gloves: Get some nice waterproof insulated gloves and glove liners.

I'm confused. You say here that you are a size 30 waist but you said in your OP that size 30 doesn't fit you. So either you are not a size 30 or maybe you are saying that different brands of men's pants fit you different? That has never really been my experience with men's pants. The waist size is usually pretty consistent. If size 30 is too big for you (even after shrinking in the wash, I presume) I would look online because in my experience it's rare for most clothing stores to stock anything below size 30. You must be quite thin. If you don't already you should look into wearing a belt.

Looks like Amazon stocks Levis as small as size 28x32.

https://www.amazon.com/Levis-Mens-Original-Stonewash-34x32/dp/B0018OOVPC/ref=sr_1_1?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1468276389&sr=1-1&nodeID=7141123011&keywords=levi%27s

I personally love the J Crew Summerweight slims that I got at the outlet (they're pretty true to size, and I'm a 32x30 in chinos), as well as Docker's Alpha Slims -- I've got 2 pairs of these. If you want to up the ante a tad, Bonobos might be the way to go, and you kind find some decent ones on sale. Also check Grailed to see if you can cop some unwanted chinos on the cheap side -- I just scored some Apolis Chinos for around $20.

2015 and 2016 were rough for me during winter since I hadn't been diagnosed yet. I spend a considerable amount of time outside at work. And I didn't want to crank the heat in my home and toast friends/family so here's what I used to cope:

I got a nice warm down comforter for my bed.

A heated throw blanket to use around the house.

Zippo hand warmer for times outside.

And thermal under garments. Top. Bottom.

I've also had a Presto heat dish for a number of years. I think I paid $60 at Costco but the going rate seems to be double that now. It's nice because it directs the heat at you rather than warming an entire room.

Has Carhartts quality kinda suffered recently? My old jacket was only in its second year when the seam where the pocket was ripped open. I had one of these and the pocket ripped open on the front and just held by a flap. Try the docker's alpha khaki, they're pretty cheap and come in a pretty wide array of colors and sizes on amazon.

Also on the black, the docker's logo is also black, unlike in the picture. The other colors it does appear to be orange though.

There is only one field jacket and its his name is M65. Alpha industries makes a very nice replica and they fit tall folk. Get one size smaller than you wear. As an example of what they look like http://www.amazon.com/Alpha-Industries-Mens-M-65-Field/dp/B002VWK5UK/ref=pd_sim_sbs_a_3?ie=UTF8&refRID=1A5SWG0P8GJT1CGQSEZW.

I'm in Idaho and think it would pair nicely with a trucker jacket or a hoodie for some layer action. Do shirt jackets fit loose enough for that sort of thing?

Sorry just to clarify, when I saw raw denim, I mean denim that’s not predistressed or prefaded - raw denim and predistressed denim are mutually exclusive. I think you’re talking about selvedge denim which is another topic altogether. I think I get your point though and I agree, Levi’s carries sub $50 raw denim if you wanted to dabble in the hobby: https://www.amazon.com/Levis-Mens-Original-Stonewash-34x32/dp/B0018OOVPC/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1526737129&sr=8-5&keywords=Levi’s+501&dpID=41T%252BHZfQPsL&preST=_SX342_QL70_&dpSrc=srch

Here's hoping that they're worth the money, but not so much so that I frown on my current 3/$10 set-up.

u/thetuque · 2 pointsr/design_critiques

The images are generic clip art, there really isn't a common theme, some are stretched and it gets worse as I scale my browser.

I'm not sure if your a web design company, hosting company or something else.

The lightbox for content doesn't work well, as I scroll the close button goes over the text.

The copy writing doesn't really instill any confidence in the products or services (I think it's IT support that your selling) by referring to yourself as a wolf pack. I half except the technician to be wearing this [Wolf Shirt] (http://www.amazon.com/The-Mountain-Three-Short-Sleeve/dp/B007I4HI1K/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1413338821&sr=8-2&keywords=Howling+Wolf+Shirt) as he is fixing my stuff.

I commend you on actually trying but I think the site needs a lot of work.

personally I like calvin klein boxer briefs. But if you're on a budget just get hanes. Also be mindful of the length. If you wear fitted pants the boxer briefs with roll up. That was the problem with boxers for me, all the bunched up fabric whenever i pulled my pants up.

I like this one

I own a pair of 510s and three pair of 511s, both in 30x32. I haven't found them in a 30 waist with anything longer then a 32 leg. Kirkland doesn't make their jeans in a 30x34 size either. Every time I stop by a clothes store I always check, but I've never seen any 30x34s

u/NowAfterMe · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

I live in MN as well. For something different than you've been looking at, give this a look. It's what I want to buy next.

As others have said, you'll want real winter boots, gloves, scarf, and hat. Stock up on wool sweaters, chunky sweaters, thick button downs, and wool socks.

The coat is the centerpiece, but if you don't have the right accessories, you're still going to feel cold.

u/stonebock · 1 pointr/frugalmalefashion

Frugal =/= cheap.

It's a quality piece of versatile outerwear at an almost unheard of price. This is going for maybe $50 more than the oft recommended Alpha Industries and is arguably a higher quality piece.

This sub is all about getting deals on clothes, whether dirt cheap or a $700 field jacket. Deals may fall outside the budget of some users, but that doesn't mean they aren't frugal.
