A lot of this would depend on the situation, but assuming that this bucket would be all that I'd have to live on for 72 hours...

  • Line the bottom with 1 liter bottles of water. I'd want minimum 6, preferably 9. Ideally I'd also like a Sawyer Mini Water Filtration System. That's a chunk of the budget right there, but it allows for refilling of water bottles from a lot of sources which could be valuable depending on the situation.

  • 3 Mainstay 2400 Bars. Walmart sells them for less than $5.00 each. I'd add in a couple of gallon sized ziploc baggies to boot because they aren't individually sealed. Probably wouldn't be super pleasant to eat only these for 3 days, but there's zero prep involved and they get the job done. Maybe get an extra one to try out ahead of time to make sure they don't do anything funny to your stomach.

  • Probably some mylar sleeping bags and several blankets. Then add in 100' of paracord. The blankets and paracord would allow you to provide shade or insulation as needed.

  • Two lighters (one for backup) and a standard pill bottle filled with cotton balls smothered in vaseline (tinder for fire, cheap and efficient).

  • Hand sanitizer (also works as a fire starter), sun glasses, chapstick, and a neck cooler (also sold for <$5.00 at walmart). Add in a handkerchief that you can soak and cover your head with. You can probably find more clothes to put on if it's cold, but it's hard to deal with heat, so that's important to take into account. Add in a small roll of duct tape as well.

  • A mini-med kit. To keep it within budget I'd mostly use what I have at home. Add bandaids, gauze, lots of ibuprofen, lots of multivitamins, sinus meds, pepto tablets, sunscreen, and allergy meds. Splurge and pick up a decent sized tube of antibiotic cream. It's not comprehensive, but this is a 72 hour kit. Hopefully that would mean more being concerned with comfort than full on survival.

  • A locking folding knife of some sort. Make sure it's sharp as a razor before putting it into the bucket. Doesn't have to be top notch or expensive here, but does need to be sharp. If room permits and you have one already, also toss something Ka-Bar like in. Something that has a little weight to take a branch off, but also is sturdy enough to assist in minor digging.

  • If you have them, toss a pair of wool socks in. No matter the weather those are always good to have. Otherwise, just get an extra pair in there. If the weather is cold you can double up. If it's hot you can change them out to keep your feet fresh. That's important.

  • A spare phone charger. Chances are there will be electricity somewhere, and phones are absolutely important. Worst case, get a $10 cheapy, test it, then toss it in.

That's the necessary stuff for a 72 hour kit imo. It covers shelter, food, water, warmth (and cooling), and as much security as you can get within budget. It should keep you comfortable for a few days if you have to grab it and move toward a place where you cannot be assured of any necessary resources being present. You can fill gaps with things like gum, hard candy, a good book you don't mind re-reading, as well as anything else you might need to keep yourself occupied.

Whoops totally forgot.

Here's the gaff I liked the most out of the two from Amazon I tried

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000KIJANK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_f4jRzb6D0J8EV

Also, this is my favorite bikini fit underwear, it holds tucks surprisingly well

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0038A7Q4M/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_65jRzbB38P6M0

I tried this gaff but didn't like it as much

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B006VYPGQ2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_x7jRzbC1HWGK0

But yeah, I rarely wear gaffs anymore (although I have 6 pairs of the first one). I just don't find that the extra security of the tuck makes that big of a difference. Regular bikini fit underwear is good enough for day-to-day

I kinda recommend getting 2/3 pairs, wearing underwear you like over them and handwashing them throughout the week. I went overboard with 6 lol

The hat is made locally in my home town, they're called Notch hats. You can buy their gear and more here https://www.notchgear.com

Also, I live in southern Arizona so it gets pretty damn hot during the day. I wear shemaghs to help keep the sun off my neck and face. You can find them pretty cheap on Amazon. YouTube has some pretty good tutorials if you're looking for different ways of wearing your shemagh. I usually just fold it into a big triangle and tie two ends together over my chest and I wear loose around my neck, and if it's too sunny I can just drop it over my head like a hood. They're very lightweight and breathable, perfect for long days in the sun, and they're great for pretty much any outdoor activity.

If you don't mind spending some money, try ordering some underwear from LeoLines. It's specially designed for trans girls, with a thick layer in front to help keep things smooth without tucking. I have multiple pairs and I'm really happy with how comfortable they are and how well they keep everything contained.

If you want to try tucking again though, this gaff works VERY well and is the best I've found so far. (Forgive the "crossdresser" marketing.) It's surprisingly comfortable and keeps me super flat.

Since you want to spend $50, why not gift someone a very good book which one can cherish and value for a long time.

Amazon recently opened its stores (online) in India. You can check my wishlist as my flair on this subreddit. (Prices on Indian site are cheaper in case of books).

Anyway, here are some of my suggestions (you can also gift used products available on Amazon to save some money):

Paraphernalia from a favorite show or game is always good. =)
If not, maybe go for something he can value as he leaves for college and beyond. Something that will last.

One of my favorites for something like this is a nice Zippo (even for non-smokers) or a good hunting knife or something.

u/adyst_ · 2 pointsr/backpacking

I don't know about what exactly you're looking for in a pack, but I recently ordered a HikPRO packable backpack off of Amazon, and I love it! I like that it's water resistant (oh god, rainy European winters), lightweight, and roomy.

For me, space is such a precious commodity when backpacking. I like having the option to literally compress my daypack down into nothing when necessary - and this pack weighs 8oz and expands into a 25L pack for only $20!

The only downside is that since it's so lightweight and packable, it doesn't hold shape and doesn't have a lot of "backpack hardware." Personally I don't mind, but I know some people might.

If you're set on the two you have listed, I would go with the flash 18 if you don't care are waterproofing.

u/[deleted] · 2 pointsr/Cringetopia

Yeah, I was thinking about the mattress covering sheets, but as far as the actual sheet that goes between you and the comforter (which is an American thing apparently) you could always use shirt stays passed under the mattress if the tuck doesn’t work for you.

Also, I encourage all people wearing tucked in shirts without a jacket use these. Wrap them around your legs in the direction you want them to pull and attach the bottom clip to your sock. Be patient until you figure it out and get used to them. They make you look soooo much better in dress attire.

I bought these and they are incredible. They do an amazing job tucking everything into place and holding it there. And if you get your testes nestled into the right spot, they're extremely comfortable. They allow me to wear tight leggings out in public and have everything look completely flat and feminine in front. As soon as I have the extra cash, I'm going to buy several more pairs.

Edit: I'm 5'7", 135 lbs, and I bought an X-small. Perfect fit.

HEY OH! Well with guys set in their fashion, it can be difficult to shift them one way or another. One possibility is to purchase some pjs that you think would look good and are comfortable. Like these for instance. In some seriousness, some comfortable sweat pants and t-shirt would be the perfect mix of bedtime and company-"appropriate".

You could even make them pretty easily yourself. You could get some regular flag pants and convert them pretty easily.

u/erst77 · 23 pointsr/HomeImprovement

Charcoal filters.

You can get them for your air vents (especially over intake vents), and also for your roommate's butt.

Dishes of coffee beans or fresh-ground coffee work to absorb odor and release faint but pleasant scent (assuming you like the smell of coffee beans). You can make an attractive dish of coffee beans with an unscented tea light in the middle for your bathroom (and the candle doesn't even have to be lit for it to work, but it can help!), and put a dish of fresh-ground coffee beans behind the toilet. Put the coffee-bean candle things everywhere in your apartment. Change the beans every month or so.

Get some leafy plants throughout your space. They can help too.

I noticed that there are two for sale, and they are quite similar, but the one she was actually wearing in the show says "blue" in the description and is about a dollar more on amazon. It is also only available on amazon in 2x right now, just when I was ready to buy it. I would be swimming in it and I want to wear it out to promote the show. Totally bummed about it.

Thanks. I'm considering getting the pair of boots you linked (your previous review as my first, but I was wondering if the sizes of these vary to regular training shoes or anything. I see people buying relatively small numbers (6.5EE and 7D). Any chance you'd explain to me what those letters mean and what size I should probably get? I'm a pretty big guy being 6'3" I usually wear size 12.5-13 training/running shoes. I checked the amazon page but they don't seem to have any sizes from 11 to 13. Any idea where I could possible get them in another size?

u/TLinchen · 38 pointsr/femalefashionadvice

Actual military member here. We use shirt stays (I think normal people call them garters). Uncomfortable, but you'll look crisp as can be. I recommend the stirrup style rather than the clip/clasp style to prevent being snapped if they come undone. I've known Marines to wear 8 shirt stays at once to look sharp for special events, but one pair should work well for a regular civilian wearing pants.

was amazed at how much some places wanted for these tiny fucking socks when I was looking around, it was stupid...

u/Vijchti · 7 pointsr/malefashionadvice

Option B: just adjust the grip strength of the shirt stay clasp.

It takes about 5 seconds to complete. Inspect the metal clasp that attaches to your shirt or your sock. You should see that one of the pieces is bent into a kind of L shape. To increase the grip strength, bend that inside piece so that it's more perpendicular.

This can be done by opening the clasp, inserting a thin piece of hard material (like a small metal nail file) through the back of the clasp, and then closing the clasp slightly. Small changes can have very large effects; don't overdo it.

Note that I'm talking specifically about this style of shirt stay. They only cost about $10 and they last for years with everyday use. You just need to tighten them from time to time as the elastic gradually stretches.

u/cakeerdeath · -2 pointsr/frugalmalefashion

I have three brand new pairs of Golden Fox Boots

  • Size 10

  • Size 10

  • Size 9.5

They will go for $40 plus shipping. They will be shipped in their original packaging and boxes. PM with questions or for more details.

    Sizing info (YMMV):

I wear these in 9.5 with thick wool socks, so they run large. I wear CDBs in 9 with thin socks and 9.5 with normal/ slightly thicker socks. I wear 9.5 in Cole Haan boots with dress socks and they are the best fitting boots I have ever worn. 9.5 in Vans with regular socks if that helps.

A few months back there was some talk about the Golden Fox moc toe boots, you can find them on Amazon. I never really felt comfortable with the range of reviews or the quality of the leather so I decided to wait.

Fast forward to late October, I happened across a pair of Eastland moc toe boots at Nordstrom Rack for only $70. You can buy them new from their site here for $125 with a 15% off coupon if you sign up for their mailing list. I love them - been keeping my feet dry and warm through the Chicago winter thus far. Surprised nobody's mentioned shirt stays. They might be annoying to put on if you need to wear dress shirts every day but the fact that they keep your shirt tucked in at all times means the amount of 'bagginess' you experience will almost always be nonexistent when you wear these. These are the ones I got years ago and they still work like a charm. I say try these before you go even go to a tailor

I just returned stateside from a 17 day trip through Thailand with an Osprey Porter 46. I also brought a packable 25L daypack, which I ended up filling with souvenirs.

I overpacked a bit (brought extra jeans and a sweater) but if you are experienced at traveling or will have access to laundry often you could get by with less. Personally I think the 46L was the perfect amount.

It's not an easy find. I've been through more than I care to admit. I think the best pair I've ever had were from a small independent men's store. Check those in your area. I've also found okay ones at Army/Navy stores (they had them behind the counter). I've got these off Amazon, and they're shit. The foot loop ones always slide off my foot, so I don't use those. These are the type that I always use.

With winter approaching and being a student on a budget, I'm in desperate need of boots that aren't a high price, even though I'll be giving up some quality for it. Right now I'm stuck in between two boots, the Golden Fox 6" Moc Toe Boots and Crevo Moc Toe Boots. Not sure as to which to get. Any suggestions on either, or experience? And if you know a better boot that is preferrably under $100, please share.

u/HotSAuceMagik · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

I should have been more specific - Something like This

Or if you prefer a less chunky or more slender boot, something like This

u/daniinad · 3 pointsr/toronto

It's already been invented and sold on Amazon.

The product is called Shreddies ... LOL

Buy these: T-Shirt Carryout Bags- Thank You/Gracias - 1000 ct. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0025W9ALG/

They are pretty tough and last forever.

Just saying, I'm in awe that the US First Amendment protects free speech up to the point (according to Scalia) of burning your country's flag as a statement.

In the Philippines, our flag and heraldic code is so uptight that you can't really put it on clothing in the same manner as, say, Star-Spangled Banner pants, without running into legal trouble.

Speaking of which, the law declares that our national anthem must be sung in its original form at all times, so we can't do those public performances similar to American artists singing their own rendition of Star Spangled Banner.

One singer tried that and wound up in court.

Here's a cool fat guy hack for you in tackling the "shirt won't stay tucked in thing" in the future if you ever do need to keep it tucked in: shirt stays. I went many years without learning about those and wish I'd known about them much, much earlier. This thing might work too (never used one though).

I bought one for my husband a few years ago. It's very nice in person, especially at that price. The crystal popped out of the first one on a plane though, from pressure changes, lol!

u/cahutchins · 3 pointsr/Montana

North-east Montana ain't so bad weather-wise, it gets hot — 90 or 100 degree days are common, 110 isn't unheard of — but it's not near as hot as a southwestern state, and not as humid as a southeastern state.

If you're working outside a lot, a neck cooler and a neck shade can be a big help.

If you have testicles, Gold Bond Medicated Powder is a summer life saver.

u/Harmonic_Content · 1 pointr/Sacramento

My math is not awesome, but this seems like a better deal! (by $.002 a bag?)

Shirt stays like these ones work well enough

u/allforthekarma · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

Well to be fair the suit pictures were taken right after putting everything on. Kinda rushed to get some of them as you can see untied shoes in the tailored fit pictures.

For all day well tucked shirt my go to are these bad boys- http://www.amazon.com/Standard-Shirt-Stays-Locking-Clamps/dp/B00AERKG94

Ooh should add that I do get my shirts taken in to slim them down and have darts put in the back. This album shows that kinda. Especially the gap part-http://m.imgur.com/a/heKEB

Thanks for the contest!

Shirt stays kept our uniforms looking puff free while I was in the service.

Find a place to buy retail merchandise bags. Supermarkets get them for like one cent each.

edit: you can buy 1000 on amazon for $15

u/actionjackson07 · 1 pointr/frugalmalefashion

Shoes (100$ Budget) - Golden Fox boots would be a good choice if you want to spend $100 total on shoes and boots.

Chinos (60$ Budget) - You can get Elston 528s for around $30 a pair.

u/frownyface · 3 pointsr/sanfrancisco

You could save yourself ~$75 after 20 years if you buy this: http://www.amazon.com/T-Shirt-Carryout-Bags-1000-ct/dp/B0025W9ALG

u/SkinnyHusky · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

There's no easy fix. Either keep re-tucking over the course of the day, or invest in something like shirt stays.

u/WTFICantFapToThis · 8 pointsr/bodybuilding

There better be a damn good reason you aren't wearing these.

u/harbichidian · 7 pointsr/SomebodyMakeThis

The stirrup versions are infinitely better.

PRO TIPS: If the O-ring slips sideways, you have them too tight. The adjuster will tear out your leg hairs throughout the day unless you wrap it in a bit of tape. Use electrical tape because it's smoother and the adhesive wears off quicker from any hanging edges.

u/zxj4k3xz · 2 pointsr/airsoft

These turned out nice. For about $60 though, you could have gotten a new pair of these to break in.

Way easier to just get the SO charcoal filtered underwear. Apparently they actually work.

Huh. Never knew they were called that. Interesting. Here is a link for anyone else interested.

u/cosmicsans · 1 pointr/everymanshouldknow

You might just be looking for some Shirt Stays. They're a must-have in the Military, but they work wonders for keeping your shirt tucked in in the civilian world as well.

You attach one clip to the front, one clip to the back, and repeat for the other side. Then, when you put the shirt on you just slide the stirrup through your foot, and then put your pants on.

u/SystemFolder · 1 pointr/UpliftingNews

Some places already have, which is why some people have turned to buying grocery bags from online retailers, like Amazon.

u/Canada4 · 1 pointr/pics

I was expecting suits, get jogging suits that look like regular suits like the suit pyjamas but for jogging

u/ArgonGryphon · 0 pointsr/ShingekiNoKyojin

Here's one I got on amazon, correct shape. I actually gave it away, but I still have the Elucidator I got that looked very similar and the chain hasn't broken on it at all.

u/sMACk313 · 1 pointr/ShingekiNoKyojin

I got this because its super cheap and I just needed SOMETHING, haha... Unfortunately it takes about a month in transit, but at least I can focus my AoT withdrawal on it for now.

uh, yep...here they are.

Also get good at finding rooms with above average sonic dampening, open spaces, cloth walls/tapestries etc...

Not quite the Moc style as the Sperry's but somewhat of a moc toe look. Check these Golden Fox Boots out.

You either produce an incredible amount of trash, or buy so few groceries you would never need more than 3 or 4 reusable bags.

And anyway, you can buy the same bags they give away at walmart and Chinese take out places. Here's a lifetime supply for $20.

u/DrGross · 1 pointr/AskReddit

The obvious answer is Suit Pajamas

u/Mable-Syrup · 3 pointsr/intj

I’d say embrace the uptightness to Ludacris levels. Start slow, baby steps, until the silliness is at max factor. Soon you will be wearing Legendary SuitJamas like a boss.

(Note: There is no right or wrong way to “let loose.” Find the best way to express your inner animal and don’t worry if you are doing it correctly.)

u/SheeEttin · 24 pointsr/malefashionadvice

The stirrup kinds less so. They also won't snap off and hit you in the nuts.

u/Egxflash · 1 pointr/USMC

Or you could just get bed sheet straps....same shit

Edit: Jesus H Christ, Marine. do you not know how to use google or know about Amazon? Found this after doing a simple search.

I use shirt garters. I hated them when I did honor guard in the military but when I started dressing up for work I realized I hated tucking in my shirt more. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00AERKG94/ref=mp_s_a_1_9?qid=1427503954&sr=8-9&pi=AC_SX110_SY165_QL70&keywords=shirt+garters+for+men
