Oh these are neat! I've been using a weird bee wax product to seal the sore. Can't remember name, but found it on Amazon. These look much more user friendly. The ones I use can stain your teeth, albeit easy to remove with your dental cleanings. Did I mention how easily the stuff I use stains? Yeah, keep it away from your granite counters.

edit: found it http://www.amazon.com/Canker-Rid%C2%AE-Immediate-Restore-Quality-GUARANTEED/dp/B003AS74JO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1451944231&sr=8-1&keywords=oral+medic

  1. Buy SLS free (Sodium Lauryl Sulfate)toothpaste like from Tom's or Rembrandt. SLS has been shown in several studies to increase the frequency of canker sores.

  2. Make sure you are getting enough B12, Folate, and Iron. Given your age and sex, you are recommended to be on a folate supplement anyhow.

  3. Avoid acidic foods/drink like OJ.

  4. And people tend to be impressed with this product: http://www.amazon.com/Canker-Rid%C2%AE-Immediate-Restore-Quality-GUARANTEED/dp/B003AS74JO/ref=lp_8921452011_1_1_a_it?srs=8921452011&ie=UTF8&qid=1464283024&sr=8-1

If you're able to suffer through 10 minutes of intense pain, I've had luck with these: Dentek Canker Covers

They're like little pills that you have to hold firmly in place against a dry ulcer for like 10-15 minutes until it adheres to it. (The instructions say 20 seconds - it's a lie) Make sure it doesn't get stuck to your finger or Qtip or whatever you're using to hold it in place. Make sure it doesn't slide around on the ulcer. It will eventually stick in place and you can let go. Saliva will then continue to help it adhere and it will begin to swell up into this nasty blob of protective goo that will keep your teeth from rubbing on it and allow at least a moderate amount of mouth-use without pain.

It also seems to speed up the healing process by quite a bit. I used two over two days on a massive one I had a while ago and will definitely use them again at the first sight of my next one. They're a little awkward, but the only thing I've found worth sharing with others. Sick of all the bullshit about anbesol and allum powder or w/e. I feel like people who get ulcers your size just roll their eyes tearfully at such suggestions.

I also bought this for the same ulcer that my first suggestion helped heal: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0015X5ZW4/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Glad the cheaper option seems to work well enough.

Sorry to hear you had to go through all that. I rarely go to the doctor myself because of the cost. I lived with a double hernia for 5 years before I finally got enough money for the scan and the co-pay for the operation. The only time I've been to the ER was when I got hit by a car on my bike as a kid. A couple of years ago I had food poisoning really badly and was considering going, but it cleared up by the next day and although I felt weak, I was able to rest and take the day off work.

I get those cold sores also. Here are some things that have helped me.

"Canker Cover" patches. They absorb moisture and turn into a gelatin-like bubble to protect the sore. It helps a ton because the sores then don't get irritated by teeth touching them and such. If they're inside near your lips, they can be a little cumbersome because they'll be bumping your teeth as you try to talk, but still manageable. Oil-pulling: Take a tablespoon of coconut oil and slowly swish it around your mouth for about 20 minutes. You don't have to gargle, just gently move it around. It will absorb impurities and help your mouth get healthier. I did it every day for a couple of weeks and then went to once every 2 weeks, although I've neglected that for a few months now. I need to get back to it. Spit the oil out after 20 minutes, preferably in the trash with some paper towels. It solidifies at room temperature and may clog pipes.

Hydrogen peroxide rinse: Make a 50/50 mix of hydrogen peroxide and water and swish it around for about a minute.

I can understand how you feel for having gone and not getting any help from the doctor. I get frustrated about that stuff too. I use Insight Timer app to do guided meditation to help me relax. I also take Magnesium and Theanine supplements that help with mood. If you get Insight Timer, let me know and I'll send you a couple of good meditations that I've found.

Also I highly recommend my daily regimen at keeping breakouts away: daily CBD oil caps (15mg, Charlotte's Web); daily 1000mg Lysine; Urban ReLeaf Lemon balm for breakouts. I have tried oregano oil but found that it is way too potent for my sensitive bits. Urban ReLeaf Lemon Balm is awesome.

The Amazon reviews on Kanka are hilarious.

"...However when you apply it on the dried sore (which is what it instructs you to do) be prepared for Satan to take a quick jaunt from his summer home and enter your mouth."

"Works really well. Numbs your mouth like cocaine in the 1980's."

"It's worth every penny and screaming neuron."

I am amused.

u/jamesgott · 6 pointsr/running

I've got the same problem - any time I run > 5 miles my nips bleed. I'm a ginger dude if that makes any difference. I think maybe ginger nipples are more sensitive..? I don't know.

Anyways, here's what I use: Living Jin pasties.
I keep my chest hair pretty short these days so that they will stick to my skin and not my hair. Also, if I'm running a longer distance and I want to ensure they'll definitely stay, I suggest some tincture of benzoin to sanitize dem tiddies and make them stickier so the pasties will stay.

I am not using referral codes on those links - that is legit what I use.

Used to get these when I had braces. This product was a lifesaver: DenTek Canker Cover Patch https://www.amazon.com/dp/B017GQYYXO/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_6nvhDbKTP2RNK

(I’m not affiliated or rewarded in any way for this plug, just a grateful consumer.)

i used to get those all the time regardless of vaping. If you need someting to make them heal fast, get this from amazon. Its a bit expensive but i swear its a god send. Gets rid of sores in like 2 days max

It will burn at first then turn into a giant gel blob.

Plus try this, Durham's Bee Farm, Inc.
Canker-Rid® - Get Immediate Relief and Heal Canker Sores

u/azowney · 2 pointsr/CankerSores

There is no research behind swallowable capsules. The research only looks at the ingredient administered in a lozenge form or in an oral rinse. I have not found any oral rinses, but I found one lozenge here - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07HKLFMFC.

Hope this helps!

I used to get caker sores a lot. This is the only remedy that works for me. It won’t heal it right away, but will allow me to eat a meal without too much pain.

Canker-Rid

u/slushpuppy123 · 1 pointr/Dentistry

Yes they can be on your gums.

I'm a dental student and always keep my ears open for any cures or treatments for canker sores because I also suffer from them. As far as I know there aren't any treatments that will make them go away besides keeping them clean and giving them 5-7 days to heal.

"Canker-X" is a live saver or I've heard "Kanka" works even better. I find that the pain flares up every couple hours and I just put this on and it makes it bearable.

u/Stover · 1 pointr/IAmA

Have you ever used numbing agents? I occasionally get large canker sores, and I use Kanka on them. The stuff is basically the topical numbing agent that dentists use.

It doesn't actually make the sores go away faster, but they don't hurt nearly as much for a few hours. As in, I can actually eat and not worry about it.

It takes a bit of practice to get the stuff in the right place only and not numb your entire mouth though.

u/Biskies_and_the_Bean · 3 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

Docoshield work great. 10% docosanol just like abreva but it's chapstick! It can even be used in place of regular chapstick. I use it right after my am/pm routine and it has seriously decreased my breakouts.

I use this for my boyfriend. He actually got one today and I had to apply for him :O he says it really works and this small bottle has lasted like two years http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B003AS74JO/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1404733515&sr=8-1

u/supersupernormal · 1 pointr/AskDocs

I've also found this stuff to be invaluable. It stings when you put it on but speeds healing dramatically. Be careful, it stains fabric.

https://www.amazon.com/Canker-Rid%C2%AE-Immediate-Restore-Quality-GUARANTEED/dp/B003AS74JO

u/AperionProject · 2 pointsr/trumpet

This stuff was recommended to me by this guy when I took lessons from him for precisely this problem. Only stuff I ever found that works.

u/crankypants15 · 1 pointr/AskDocs

Kanka is a liquid that dries to a cover that protects the sore and lets it heal. It protects the sore from irritation from acids like orange juice. It works better than anything else I've tried. The gels and other things just wash away.

u/owwmyass · 1 pointr/LifeProTips

Also, buy this from any bee keeper that makes it. Its a natural product that bees make to seal up hive holes, and it'll seal up your canker sore as well. I have used Durham Farm's for years seriously could not live without it. It works for "dry socket" as well. Pain gone for either ailment in 30 seconds and is a natural antibiotic. Read the reviews.

u/HojoExperiment · 2 pointsr/AskDocs

Herpes labialis (Cold sore). The first outbreak can last up to 2 weeks and subsequent outbreaks typically last 1 week. You can try over-the-counter medication But at this point it will likely not do much.

Food allergies can also appear this way. If you develop an itch inside your mouth or on the anus, then this diagnosis is more likely.

u/Shigofumi · 2 pointsr/LifeProTips

Buy and apply mouth pain liquid like Kanka.

u/Rey_Kenobi_ · 2 pointsr/LifeProTips

Canker-Rid!!!

http://www.amazon.com/Canker-Rid%C2%AE-Immediate-Restore-Quality-GUARANTEED/dp/B003AS74JO

I cant recommend this enough! I get them whenever I have citrus and this stuff works wonders. It taste like total shit but it works amazingly.

u/NauticalBustard · 2 pointsr/tifu

Try Kanka by Blistex. Contains a 20% benzocaine solution, and it will form a little film over the ulcer, protecting it from irritation for a couple of hours.

The downside is that during application, it will feel as if an ice pick is piercing your cheek.

u/nrfx · 1 pointr/CankerSores

I've only been on it two months, but I swear by this supplement (basically a combo of everything thats ever been recommended for canker sores)

Monoplex Canker Sore Relief

and this ointment / biofilm stuff:

Zilactin-B Long Lasting Mouth Sore Gel

The supplelment seems make them less frequent for me, and the few I've had since taking it have been much smaller and heal in a few days instead of weeks.

The gel (And that specific one, there are a few varieties) is AMAZING. You have to dry the sore, which sucks, and when you apply it its going to burn for about a minute while it dries which is awkward, but then it numbs it, and leaves a film that lasts for 4 up to 8 hours. As long as its intact you can barely tell you have a sore!

Seems some of us are just super susceptible. Not sure how to prevent them, I've cut out so many favorite foods... didn't really seem to help except for chips. I'll never eat potato chip again, or anything that sharp. Too risky.

u/TheSmilingGirl · 0 pointsr/Dentistry

I started using Canker Rid last month after I had two big cankers that last a week and half. I ordered it at the last stage of the healing because I was sick and tired of them getting painful and lasting so long. Luckily a few days later I felt the beginning of another canker! I followed the directions of drying then applying the stuff on my canker and it went away after two days. It didn't even get to the painful stage or get any bigger then the first day I found it! I highly recommend this stuff.

u/glyph02 · 3 pointsr/LifeProTips

My girlfriend gets them from time to time and Canker-Rid is the only thing that has consistently worked.

I don't get them, but bit the hell out of my cheek one day, and that stuff worked super well on that too. Only thing - it hurts like hell when you put it on, and you've got to leave it on until it stops stinging (about a minute).

u/acallan1 · 3 pointsr/autoimmunity

I occasionally had them as a kid while growing up but now notice I tend to only get a small canker sore or two right after having a lot of sinus drainage from my bad allergies+sinusitis. I found the small tubes of painkilling gels helpful when they got really bothersome as a kid but I’ve since discovered Orajel has a mouthwash now that seems to really help prevent the pain from getting too bad in the 1st place while helping heal up a little faster (& maybe prevent them with more regular use, I only need it for a day or 2 when I have a sore now).

Maybe worth a shot if you haven’t tried it: https://www.amazon.com/Orajel-Antiseptic-Mouth-Sore-Rinse/dp/B00I5MOVQO

Hey, if your SO is still suffering from canker sores you should try to get him some Canker-Rid

I have had canker sores for years and I tried EVERYTHING. This is the only thing I use nowadays. It gets rid of the pain, creates a protective layer, and heals them. It smells a bit funky and it can be tricky to apply, but this stuff is magic. I've never had a canker sore last more than 48 hours after putting this on, and mine used to last over a week. The little bottle is expensive, but mine has lasted me about two years and I'm nowhere near needing a replacement.

The trick to applying it is to dry the area thoroughly and hold a q-tip or something else absorbent right under the sore, and then let a drop fall into the area. The runoff will be absorbed by the q-tip. It's very runny and it dries fast, so it's easy to accidentally get it stuck on your fingers or face. Also, do two layers!
