🎓 Reddit experts on comic strip books
The comments and opinions expressed on this page are written exclusively by redditors. To provide you with the most relevant data, we sourced opinions from the most knowledgeable Reddit users based the total number of upvotes and downvotes received across comments on subreddits where comic strip books are discussed. For your reference and for the sake of transparency, here are the specialists whose opinions mattered the most in our ranking.
1.) Something that is grey: Sculpy! From my cosplay wishlist! :D
2.) Something reminiscent of rain: This hair accessory from my Silly Fun list! I don't know if they're meant to, but the blue bits remind me of raindrops. <3
3.) Something food related that is unusual: Food picks from my Silly Fun list! Maybe not super unusual in Japan, but here in America I doubt you'd see them often.
4.) Something on your list that is for someone other than yourself: This book off my Books wishlist of course! It's for my husband, who's a huge fan of the Elder Scrolls games. I like them, too, but I doubt I'd ever read this.
5.) A book I should read: The Invisible Gorilla, again, off my Books list. I read almost a third of this book while hidden in a book store one day. It's an absolutely fascinating study (or rather, collection of studies) about how much trust we place in our own faulty intuitions.
6.) An item that is less than a dollar, including shipping... that is not jewelry, nail polish, and or hair related: Barely, but this nautical star decal! Unfortunately, it's not on any of my lists.
7.) Something related to cats: Another from my Books wishlist! I'm pretty sure I already know my cat wants to kill me, but this book looks funny anyway.
8.) Something that is not useful, but so beautiful you must have it: Stationary, from my Silly Fun list. I have no one to write to, but I have an obsession with pretty stationary and cards and things. I'm usually too afraid to write on it, even, because nothing ever seems worthy of the pretty paper...
9.) A movie everyone should watch at least once in their life: From my Movies/TV list: Braveheart! Because FREEEDOOOOOOM!!!!!
10.) Something that would be useful when the zombies attack. Explain: Survival knife from my Adventure wishlist! Secluded, unpopulated areas are best for hiding from zombies, and this thing even comes with a firestarter! HOW CAN YOU SAY NO?
11.) Something that would have a profound impact on your life and help you to achieve your current goals: This book which is, strangely, on my Semi-Practical list. I'm a Math/Physics major, but I haven't been in school in quite a while. I'm about to go back very soon, and I'm a little petrified of failing out.
12.) One of those pesky Add-On items: Red Heart yarn from my Crochet wishlist!
13.) The most expensive thing on your list. Your dream item: The PS4 from my Video Games list. I'm an avid gamer. Video games are how I relax. It's one of the few things that, no matter how crappy my day was, always manages to raise my spirits and help me forget about it all.
14.) Something bigger than a bread box: Apparently bread boxes are way bigger than I thought, so I'll go with this desk off my Semi-Practical wishlist. Surely that's big enough! XD
15.) Something smaller than a golf ball: Turtle earrings off my Silly Fun list! THEY'RE SO CUTE!
16.) Something that smells wonderful: Teavana's Blueberry Bliss tea off my Silly Fun list (yet again). If you've never been in a Teavana store, go this second and just...inhale. <3
17.) A (SFW) toy: Frog mitt from my Practical list. I'm fairly certain this isn't supposed to be a toy, but I get the feeling I'm going to spend more time using it as a puppet than as an oven mitt.
18.) Something that would be helpful for going back to school: This backpack from my Semi-Practical list! I want it so badly!! IT'S STUDIO GHIBLI HOW AWESOME IS THAT?
19.) Something related to your current obsession, whatever that may be: 12 Hole Ocarina from my Ocarina wishlist. It's so beautiful and it comes with a Lord of the Rings songbook and I just LOVE IT SO MUCH.
20.) Something that is just so amazing and awe-inspiring that I simply must see it. Explain why it is so grand: Shark sleeping bag from my Silly Fun wishlist! You need me to explain it's awesome?? REALLY? IT'S A SHARK SLEEPING BAG. It looks like the shark is eating you!! Plus it's called the "Chumbuddy" and that just makes me laugh way harder than it should.
Fear cuts deeper than swords!
/u/MeishkaD said that my entry disappeared, so here it is again. I've deleted my previous entry now (after you said it disappeared), just to make sure it doesn't show up twice.

1.) Something that is grey. [Not on wishlist]
2.) Something reminiscent of rain. [Not on wishlist]
3.) Something food related that is unusual.
4.) Something on your list that is for someone other than yourself. Tell me who it's for and why. (Yes, pets count!)
This is for my classroom mostly. One of the projects the student's like to do is making board games. They like using various types of die, but when we made cardboard ones, they fall apart.
5.) A book I should read! I am an avid reader, so take your best shot and tell me why I need to read it!
I can't give too great a reference. This book is on my wishlist, as I've not read it, after all. It's supposed to be really funny though, with an interesting story. The downside is that getting the whole series is too expensive.
6.) An item that is less than a dollar, including shipping... that is not jewelry, nail polish, and or hair related! [Not on wishlist]
7.) Something related to cats. I love cats! (keep this SFW, you know who you are...)
These are pretty awesome.
8.) Something that is not useful, but so beautiful you must have it. [Not on wishlist]
I've wanted one of these for ages, but they're not useful enough to justify.
9.) A movie everyone should watch at least once in their life. Why? [Not on wishlist - I own it]
It's incredibly funny and almost everyone has seen the film it's based on. A lot of people have never even seen a parody movie, so it's a new genre to a lot of people and thus a new experience.
10.) Something that would be useful when the zombies attack. Explain.
A bit of a different item than normal. When the zombies attack, we're going to need to be well rested. Baseball bats and the like are common enough, but a good pillow is hard to find.
11.) Something that would have a profound impact on your life and help you to achieve your current goals. [Not on wishlist, as Amazon.co.uk item]
A book about learning to become a Primary School teacher. After my current teaching job, I want to go back and train as one in my home country.
12.) One of those pesky Add-On items. [Not on wishlist - the base game is on wishlist].
13.) The most expensive thing on your list. Your dream item. Why?
Playstation 4. It's not on my wishlist as I think anyone would ever buy it, but more to remind myself that it's region-free and only $400 in the US if I can get enough giftcards someday. In my home country it's about $550. The why is mostly Kingdom Hearts 3 and Final Fantasy XV - both series which I've gained a lot of enjoyment from. There's also that some of my favorite series such as Disgaea are Playstation-exclusive.
14.) Something bigger than a bread box.
15.) Something smaller than a golf ball.
16.) Something that smells wonderful.
17.) A (SFW) toy.
18.) Something that would be helpful for going back to school.
(For reading digital textbooks on)
19.) Something related to your current obsession, whatever that may be.
Disgaea D2. My current obsession has been trying to convert my old Disgaea 3 save, which has 120 hours and my Disgaea 4 save which has 95 hours, so that I can use it on another PS3.
20.) Something that is just so amazing and awe-inspiring that I simply must see it. Explain why it is so grand. [Not on wishlist.. but it should be]
The toilet throne. It's amazing that someone has thought of it, if nothing else. Now you can feel like a Queen or King, while going to the restroom.

Bonus: Made in Oregon
Raffle: fear cuts deeper than swords
I appreciate the non-spoilers, because I've only read the first volume of the Boom series.

But man, if you want "everything," you have got quite the journey ahead of you. I've got a little free time on my hand, so here's an extremely abridged list of absolutely everything.
Some gift ideas that have gone over well in the past:
Also, here's my link to a review on here of Etsy/ArtfullyWalls/Society6 artists in case you want to shop for yourself/others with the upcoming sales.
I'm not a historian, but I used to be a history teacher and I think I got a few things right in terms of keeping people interested. A few books I used that are fun and relatively easy:
Some of these aren't on Amazon, but all of them outside of amazon are on my wishlist, is that okay?
1.) Something that is grey.
[This compilation of xkcd comics!] (http://www.amazon.com/xkcd-0-Randall-Munroe/dp/0615314465/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pd_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=1KXQQYMQ3MHEJ&coliid=I12D1D7CV12AVC) Though there aren't any formerly-unseen comics included, this is perfect for the lover of the famous (and always relevant) Xkcd webcomics.
2.) Something reminiscent of rain.
[This t-shirt for fans of Incubus that is apparently out of stock now, but I'm keeping it on my wishlist to gaze wistfully at.] (http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/315rOsJeWzL._SL135_.jpg)
Incubus has always been one of my favorite bands, and all art that the lead singer (Brandon Boyd) produces is amazing, so I had high faith in this shirt being wonderful if I had the money to buy it.
3.) Something food related that is unusual.
[So I typed in "candy" and this popped up..] (http://www.amazon.com/LOCOMO-Rainbow-Hedgehog-Plastic-Baseball/dp/B00BRWH99K/ref=sr_sp-atf_title_2_49?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1376327288&sr=1-49&keywords=candy)
I'm not sure what I was expecting.
4.) Something on your list that is for someone other than yourself. Tell me who it's for and why.
[My mom has always wanted to learn calligraphy and someone recommended this book to me] (http://www.amazon.com/Learn-Calligraphy-Complete-Lettering-Design/dp/0767907329/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=1KXQQYMQ3MHEJ&coliid=I35YCU37X7E6Y2)
She paints signs for people, usually featuring newborn babies or pets, and she always has to print out a guide and trace it if her customers request a font for their name.
5.) A book I should read! I am an avid reader, so take your best shot and tell me why I need to read it!
[This compilation of postsecrets-- artistic postcards with secrets written on them-- that are all touching in their own way.] (http://www.amazon.com/PostSecret-Extraordinary-Confessions-Ordinary-Lives/dp/0060899190/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pd_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=1KXQQYMQ3MHEJ&coliid=I22JZDFLS686V8)
If you haven't heard of Postsecret yet, you should check it out [here] (http://www.postsecret.com/)
6.) An item that is less than a dollar, including shipping... that is not jewelry, nail polish, and or hair related!
I dunno!
7.) Something related to cats. I love cats! (keep this SFW, you know who you are...)
I have two cats, but I got nothing for this one.
8.) Something that is not useful, but so beautiful you must have it.
[This key from KeypersCove] (http://www.amazon.com/Handmade-Winter-Rose-Key-Necklace/dp/B00D3S4GVU/ref=sr_sp-atf_title_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1376329005&sr=8-1&keywords=keypers+cove)
I had a similar one on my wishlist but it's out of stock now.
9.) A movie everyone should watch at least once in their life. Why?
[Cloud Atlas!] (http://www.amazon.com/Cloud-Atlas/dp/B00CRWJ5GO/ref=sr_sp-btf_title_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1376329072&sr=8-4&keywords=clouds+atlas)
Terribly confusing unless you see the [trailer] (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hWnAqFyaQ5s) first, it's surprisingly appropriate for this sub.
10.) Something that would be useful when the zombies attack. Explain.
[This climbing pick] (http://www.amazon.com/Omega-Pacific-Mountain-Axe-80cm/dp/B002J91R1G/ref=sr_sp-atf_title_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1376330277&sr=8-2&keywords=climbing+pick)
Ever played Telltale's The Walking Dead? Well, one character had a climbing pick that they used pretty frequently to scale buildings and kill zombies..it opened my eyes to the possibilities and dual uses of items.
11.) Something that would have a profound impact on your life and help you to achieve your current goals.
[This book] (http://www.amazon.com/The-Emotion-Thesaurus-Character-Expression/dp/1475004958/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top) for my writing skills, I always have trouble finding just the right way to convey the proper emotion, plus I have severe social anxiety so it would help me figure out how to act in real life as well.
[Or this book by the famous Virginia Woolf] (http://www.amazon.com/The-Waves-Harvest-Book-ebook/dp/B004R1Q41C/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=1KXQQYMQ3MHEJ&coliid=IHP0D0N718720) just the type of writing style I'm aiming for.
[Or this book that I'm sure would help me with my technique.] (http://www.amazon.com/Writing-Tools-Essential-Strategies-Writer/dp/0316014990/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top)
12.) One of those pesky Add-On items.
Hm?
13.) The most expensive thing on your list. Your dream item. Why?
I used to have this on my list, but a [Geiger counter] (http://www.amazon.com/Radex-RD1503-RADEX-Radiation-Detector/dp/B00051E906/ref=sr_sp-atf_title_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1376331004&sr=8-1&keywords=geiger+counter) because I'm paranoid about radiation and etc. Deleted it off my list because it's not useful for everyday life.
14.) Something bigger than a bread box. EDIT A bread box is typically similar in size to a microwave.
I got nothing on my list.
15.) Something smaller than a golf ball.
[These socks] (http://www.amazon.com/Portal-Chells-Aperture-Science-Socks/dp/B008JGPSJU/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=1KXQQYMQ3MHEJ&coliid=I2KUOG9B813AXT) because they're ultra thin and I'm sure they could be crumpled up that small.
16.) Something that smells wonderful.
I'd put something here, but there's nothing I'm sure of. [This book] (http://www.amazon.com/White-Fluffy-Clouds-Inspiration-Forward/dp/0974512001/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=1KXQQYMQ3MHEJ&coliid=I16LKBYPI8BE5U) because it could smell like Brandon Boyd?
17.) A (SFW) toy.
I've got nothing!
18.) Something that would be helpful for going back to school.
[This shirt] (http://www.designbyhumans.com/shop/rising-t-shirt/13087/) because I find it amazing, oh my god oh my god.
19.) Something related to your current obsession, whatever that may be.
[I've been trying to learn Irish for quite awhile now..] (http://www.amazon.com/Learning-Irish-Michael-OSiadhail/dp/0300121776/ref=sr_sp-atf_title_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1376331377&sr=8-1&keywords=learn+irish)
20.) Something that is just so amazing and awe-inspiring that I simply must see it. Explain why it is so grand.
[This poster, this poster!] (http://smbc.myshopify.com/products/dear-human-19x27-poster) To see what it's based on, the original comic is [here] (http://www.smbc-comics.com/?id=2223)
I wish I had more time right now - maybe I'll fill one of those out later and send it to you.
I have to say, though, that I don't like the layout - turning much more of the text into dialogue would be much easier to read. Now it's like a book with pictures, like A Cartoon History of the Universe, which, as we all know, sucked ass and just sat on my shelf until I got to high school and just burned it in my backyard. Not that yours is bad (it's good, I like it a lot), but it shares the problematic "is it a book or a comic?" layout.
Another point of unsolicited advice - your illustrations show that you have lots of potential as an artist - I'd encourage you to dive into upping your illustrative abilities and learning all you can about comics. Truth is, comics are all about the illustrations, and if you really want to do this, it'll be in your interest to figure out the visual part of it, and how better to incorporate your admittedly great message into comic form. And you can do it, as evidenced by your solid foundation.
As is, as an artist and writer I'd be hesitant to join forces because I'd be doing a vast majority of the grunt work and I'd want to reformat and maybe rewrite all the text blocks completely to fit my illustrations. This seems kind of like the "design the new Facebook for me for $50 and no credit, and it has to be pink" trope for web developers. The Cyanide & Happiness model of several artists making their own full comics with the same theme seems to me like it would work way better than separating out the writing and illustrating. Again, just my personal response as an illustrator/writer.
Anyway, I'm shitty at giving opinions that aren't so sharp that they make people want to avoid them just to spite them, so sorry, and I hope you find an awesome illustrator here - but if you don't, there are other great options.
Thanks for the contest, Happy Happy Cake Day! :D
(is this the reddit raffle phrase? "Happy happy cake day If I have enough money I may do a 3rd prize for $5.00 and if I do, I will use the raffle to pick a winner") lol
My dream is The Complete Calvin and Hobbes Box Set (I'd say a new bed, but that wouldn't be very reasonable heh). I grew up adoring C&H, had my own Transmogrifier and played Calvin Ball with my friends. I had most of the books when I was a kid, but my mom got rid of them when I left for college. I've always wanted to get this set so I could enjoy that moment of my childhood once again!
For my C'mon...gimme $20 or under I'll present Smash Up Awesome Level 9000 Expansion Kids really want to be able to play as the Plants combined with the Zombies!
Love your contests, you are some great people who look very very nice today!
> just curious, as a book nerd.
I would love to be a book nerd, but I just don't have it in me. So, sadly, I haven't read Murakami's book. Yet. I've DEFINITELY read The Oatmeal, and HIS book on running.
> Why do you run Raisin? What do you like about it?
> So, what kind of stretches do you recommend before running? And after?
Here's where my practice and the consensus among the Running Community(tm) differ.
I haven't stretched in over 20 years, and only have two injuries to show for it, both of which were likely the result of wearing the wrong sort of shoes. There is a solid body of evidence that suggests that stretching is at best ineffective and at worst may contribute to injury.
That said, since your body is asking you for help, here are some solid quad stretches you can try. Except that last one - unless you're an experienced Yogi with zero back problems, fuuuuck that. You can also try a longer warm up walk and/or "butt kicks": going at a slow jog, but literally trying to bring your heel up to your ass with each stride. I especially like the butt kick idea in cooler climates, where you'll freeze your parts off if you're on the ground stretching.
I know you said modern and American history but I have a fun, quick way for you to pick up some world history which believe it or not, you need a good deal of to understand US history. The US was not created in a void and before the revolution it was European colony of England, Holland, France and Spain at variant times. Not to mention the founders were all shaped by ideas from the Roman Republic and its collapse etc.
That said, I am a huge fan of accurate graphic novels to introduce people to history, I own the following one so will vouch for its accuracy and fun.
A Cartoon History of the Universe II - This book is cheap and outstanding, I started you at II as the first one goes back to the big bang and stops in the 4th century B.C.E. Likely further back then you'd want.
In looking this up for you, I also found Gonick wrote one about the modern world, no idea how good it is, but if his accuracy and fun holds up from his other works, it will be good. Cartoon History of the Modern World
I offer these as starting points. You get a full overview with awesome illustrations that might spark your interest the way some boring high school history teacher who was going through the motions didn't. If you like this, I hope you will keep asking questions and we can point you toward more books of interest.
Hello! How you doing?
This cool graphic novel would be awesome.
Thanks for such an awesome contest!
Hey, hello, great to see you again! I -- I see that you lost my handout from the interview about required dress for this position, but that's okay, it's okay, you aren't going on your first house call until tomorrow. I'll have Janice, uh, print a copy of those dress requirements and photo copy it so you can have a copy. Just -- ah, this is so awkward with new guys, I should have called to make sure you understood. You'll have to loose all that skin and muscle, okay? I don't make the rules, it's an OSHA thing. My hands are tied, really, nothing I can do.
Whoa, whoa, where are you going? Buddy, c'mon, please, we went over the job requirements, and you can't back down now. You signed a contract, and the other guy quit already. You -- you did read the supplemental materials, when you were applying? You didn't read the supplemental material because you 'were too busy for dinosaur books'?
What could be more important than a dinosaur book? Did you ever have a childhood? What the fuck is wrong with you? ...No, don't cry, you're right, that was unprofessional. We're stuck with each other, kid, so why don't you fill that coffee cup back up and I'll go clear the conference room.
Alright, okay. Your job. You're Death, now, and you have to help ease the passing of people who have run out of time. No, not like the voice that tells you to insert more coins into the payphone. How old are you? Jesus. They haven't run out of time on a phone. They've run out of time on everything.
No, not like when you have to return something to the video store because it's almost been 30 days and you don't want to be charged the full price of the -- Ugh. Didn't Blockbuster go out of business? A store closing is kind of like dying, though, that's a good metaphor. Cashflow is bad, the employees have checked out, so it's just not worth it to even pay the lighting bill anymore, you know? And your job is to make sure that, uh... that everyone gets out of the building in a timely manner, yeah! And to make sure the water is shut off and the utilities all know there isn't anyone there to pay them anymore.
You get that, right? No?
^I'm ^not ^paid ^enough ^for ^this.
Nothing, nothing. Did you have a dog growing up? What happened when your dog got too old? Yeah, see, man... the thing is, there's no farm upstate. I know your parents promised, but they lied. They did! Parents lie, you know, to be nice. Like about Santa Claus. Are you crying? Don't cry, oh my god, it's okay.
You can read, right? Great. I know you did a couple years in a call center, so this will be really familiar, you just have to stick to the script.
The customer will be like, "W-w-where am I? Am... a-am I dead?"
And you say, "Yes, I'm so sorry, but you'll have to move along to the next stage now."
Then they'll say something like, "WHY? WHY, GOD, WHY?" or "NO, NO, THIS CAN'T BE HAPPENING." Sometimes, if you're really lucky, you'll get, "DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM?" but try not to laugh. Yes, I promise it's funny.
After that, you just have to tell them, "Oh, my supervisor would love to talk to you about it, please follow me," and then lead them to the sorting area. Am I really going to talk to them? Wow, kid, you're a riot. Hell no, I'm too busy for that. I'm too busy for this, too. Can you follow the script? Great! Go talk to Janet about your paperwork and if you have any questions ask Beelzebub, he's got the cubicle right by the fire exit and he'd love to explain everything to you in more detail.
(Edited because... I found a typo. :c )
So I'm going to plug for some books that I loved when I was a kid.
The Cartoon History of the Universe / Cartoon History of the Modern World, by Larry Gonick. I'd caution that it isn't for very young children, as they decidedly don't censor the sex and violence, but I probably started reading them around age ten, and the tattered copy of volume one I still have - and occasionally peruse - attests to just how much I read and reread them. The books are thoroughly enjoyable, and just the kind of thing to get a kid to really enjoy reading history. The only real word of caution Ii would offer is that yes, they are at the core pop history, and especially the earlier volumes - the first one was published in 1990 I believe - can reflect some outdated scholarship - but especially for young, budding historians, I don't feel this is all that much of a drawback. The goal at this point in time is to make history fun and exciting, and these books absolutely do that - and they prime the pump for enjoying dry academic tomes ten years later to get the necessary corrections!
On the topic of cartoons, I'll also plug Asterix and Obelix, which we'll be charitable and call 'historical fiction'. You shouldn't be taking anything from these to be accurate and teaching tools, but looking back, they are another set of works that I was reading as a kid that decidedly made me enjoy reading about the past.
"Shadow Puppets" is pretty cool, but it's also included in the IDW Spike Omnibus which, unless you're hellbent on getting a hardcover, gives you a lot more (mostly great) content for your money. In particular, it has Spike: Asylum, which I highly recommend.
I've read that "re-adaptation" (they used it as filler in one of the Angel Omnibuses), and it's just a shortened version of the episode with not-that-great unmoving pictures instead of live actors. So that's worth exactly nothing.
I can't say anything about "Mystery Date" except that it seems to be extracted from the Masks anthology. Maybe consider getting that one instead?
I don't know what exactly you're looking for or what you've read already, but the After the Fall series is actually pretty good. Or, if you're a Buffy fan too, the Tales or Fray are really awesome. They also lead up to (or, in the case of some of the Tales titles, are set during) Buffy season eight. Which, granted, isn't very good. But I hear it gets better in season nine.
My goal is to come out of my shell, and become better at communicating with people!
I've improved so much since I started college. I used to be terrified of interacting with people, but now I'm a class officer, president of the biggest student organization on campus, and a Resident Assistant!
I still have a long way to go - I need to learn the balance between being personable enough and being too personable. I'm hoping that my time as an RA will help me fine tune my communication/social skills that I fought so hard to gain. :)
942!
You should be able to get both the first and the second Scott Pilgrim books for under $10 (used) with shipping! But I'd gladly settle for just the first. ;)
Thank you for the contest. :)
There's a great book you might find helpful or at least amusing: NYC Basic Tips and Etiquette
It's by a local NYC artist and offers some funny and helpful tips on moving to New York... also could make a fun gift for your fiancée when she joins you. Good luck!
Edit: updated to fiancée, not girlfriend
>On the one hand, I confess to finding it quite flattering that some of my fans have created web sites displaying and / or distributing my work on the Internet. And, on the other, I'm struggling to find the words that convincingly but sensitively persuade these Far Side enthusiasts to "cease and desist" before they have to read these words from some lawyer.
>What impact this unauthorized use has had (and is having) in tangible terms is, naturally, of great concern to my publishers and therefore to me -- but it's not the focus of this letter. My effort here is to try and speak to the intangible impact, the emotional cost to me, personally, of seeing my work collected, digitized, and offered up in cyberspace beyond my control.
I've always read this as a letter written about "web sites displaying and / or distributing my work on the Internet" i.e. back-in-the-day sites where you'd find websites that were just pages and pages of a particular artist's cartoons.
That's not what's being done here, and I don't think that Larson ever intended that his works never be displayed individually on the internet.
That letter has been out on the internet for a long time. It's never been, as far as I know, authenticated, revised or qualified.
I'd like to think that Mr Larson does not intend that the entirety of his work be kept forever behind the barrier of a publishing paywall, and that sharing the humour of individual comics is more-or-less what writing comics in the first place was all about.
That said, I have one of these so fuck y'all, 'cause I have all of it anyway :D
I just started the keto diet yesterday!
ok so this is just a shot in the dark but when ever I see people talk about Graphic Novels THIS always comes to mind! I love Jhonen Vasquez's work (come on Invader ZIM?) well Johnny The Homicidal Maniac is much darker than zim but super good! and there are 2 spinoffs that I know about [I feel sick] (http://www.amazon.com/Feel-Sick-Book-About-Girl/dp/B001VD1FZY/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1396454824&sr=8-2&keywords=I+feel+sick) there is only 2 comics for that one and there is Squee's Wonderful Big Giant Book of Unspeakable Horrors and that in a way is a sequel to JTHM.
And in case you're wondering, that referral code is mine for breadpig. Used it here, for instance.
UPDATE
Wow! You've skyrocketed the book up 442 spots to the #212th bestselling book on Amazon. Thanks for spreading the word, everyone.
Christina & I also visited Laos to see the first xkcd school we built with breadpig's profits.

Here are some books, but nothing specific to injuries.
If she likes the Oatmeal, this is a must-have.
The Terrible and Wonderful Reasons Why I Run Long Distances
The classic. It's a good read. Take the science with a grain of salt.
Born to Run
Bill Rodgers auto-biography. An entertaining read, but not greatly-written.
Marathon Man
If she's science-oriented, this is a great book. I love this thing:
What Comes First, Cardio or Weights?
You neeeed this! I will tell you why, every time I go to Target with my best friend he reads me this books and I laugh ever time! It will for sure pick you up! :3
I would love this! :3
I'm 26, and love it. My parents and my great-aunt loved it, so I was raised kind of surrounded by it. We had several of the books* scattered around the house, and I loved flipping through them.
*ETA: Far Side Gallery, FSG 2, PreHistory of the Far Side which is probably my favorite, Weiner Dog Art (we had miniature dachshunds, so of course we had to have it), and The Chickens Are Restless - I grew up in a rural area and my family have always kept livestock, done 4-H, competed in rodeos, etc., so the large number of 'rural life'-based jokes in The Far Side was probably a large part of the appeal.
Happy Birthday! I hope you enjoy your day! I suggest you read Cyanide and Happiness. It is always a good laugh on those rough days.
As for the bucket list, I would recommend white water rafting. It is something that is on my list.
Okay, so these might not be 100% cyberpunk, but here's some I love anyways:
SAGA
Sky Doll
Nonplayer - This one is only one issue. The guy got a movie deal right after publication and hasn't come out with more since. :( Best to find it online vs getting a hold of a physical copy.
Squee - this was is kinda random haha, but it popped in my head. It's not all cyberpunk but it's weird, and it's Vasquez, and it might be a fun read.
I really really want it!
Science/Gardens: Because bugs
Writing: Because they are food like and cute
Movie: Its a classic
Book: Cuz its John Green
Spirituality: It smells nice
Art Supplies: I love deco paint pens
Math: Because they talk about science and math stuffs
Travel: Because you always need one
Food: You need to live out your childhood dreams sometimes
Nature/outdoors: Because Nature can be scary and filled with "Nope"
Fun stuff:
The complete Calvin and Hobbes, hardcover, box-set.
Or how about a big print to hang up? The demotivational posters at ThinkGeek are all pretty great. Or for something a little deeper, I've always liked this one, given how totally human it is (plus the artwork she does is amazing).
P.S. You sound like an awesome gf for doing this kind of research.
Love Actually because I really like all the different aspects of love that it shows.
less than $5
less than $20
I think you should give 4 $5 gifts and spread the love!
Memorieeeeeeeeees. I bought the C & H Complete Collection as soon as it came out and recently crocheted a stuffed Hobbes (as he appears to everyone buy Calvin) for my friend. I love that it's still awesome and on different levels than when I read it as a kid...when it was also awesome!
https://www.amazon.com/Cartoon-History-Universe-Volumes-1-7/dp/0385265204
I loved these books so much as a teen. They did such a wonderful job of taking dry history and making them come alive in the imagination. Having gained this perspective from Larry Gonick's books made it SO much easier to read about history in general afterwards.
Calvin and Hobbes... Every child should have this!
Nice work /u/Ravens23.
An old friend of mine recently had a heart attack and was off work hospitalized for a couple of months. He shares my love so i got him this:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Complete-Calvin-Hobbes-v/dp/0740748475/ref=tmm_hrd_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=&sr=
Needless to say, he loved it at 55 just as much as he did a 7!
It's so much fun to read books that you love with your baby! We have Introductory Calculus For Infants and my 1.5 year old LOVES it. Someone has to teach your child to be awesome. Might as well be you.
My first time finishing, and it’s these cute Pusheens! Finishing sucks, and my fabric was too thick to fit in the frame, so I had to cut the back, fit the fabric in, and then tape the back on. The backs to these are atrocious, but I’m pretty happy with the fronts. Let me know any tips or tricks to make it easier in the future!
I got the patterns from the pusheen cross stitch kit. You can find it on amazon
While I wouldn't get it initially, the 10th anniversary edition has Bill Watterson commentary throughout the book. It's a fascinating ride where he talks about his personal life, the comic's inspiration, explanations of his running gags and motifs, and other fun and interesting tidbits about the comic. I would highly recommend it once you have some of the other books.
Welcome! I don't know the specifics of your stay, so I'll keep it generic'ish
That's all I can think of off the top of my head. I'm over a decade older than you, so I think showing you around would just cramp your style. I'll see if any Filipinas I know around your age might be interested
> They just have a possibly deserved reputation for rudeness.
So have you ever been driving and got stuck behind someone who was going WAY too slow? Then you finally find a way to pass them and glance over to see they are doing something insane like texting or putting on eye make-up? How angry were you? How absolutely FURIOUS were you that they were just not paying attention?
That is what it feels like to us New Yorkers when we are walking behind (or other wise inconvenienced) by a tourist. That's where the rude reputation comes from. It's real easy to get in the way of someone who is just trying to get to work or grab lunch. If your wondering around NYC talking your sweet time eventually you'll be the 1,000th person to piss someone off an they'll just snap. Is this a good reason to snap? Nope, but it'll still happen.
All that said, if you ask for help you'll get it in spades. Knowledge of NYC is a something we pride our selves on. If we have the time we'll tell you everything you need to know and more.
NYC Basic Tips and Etiquette is a great book on this stuff if anyone is interested. It's got some awesome stuff
Oh my god I did it. I'm so proud of myself! Some friends of mine picked up cross stitch, and I was all 'yeah this sounds like something I hate myself just enough to do', so I bought the Pusheen cross stitch kit off Amazon and got to stitching. The bottom's a little off but I didn't notice it until I was completely finished, so... hopefully the recipient just doesn't look too hard. I absolutely love cross stitch as a craft and I'm so excited to start my next project!
"In bulk" is kind of a funny criterion. Do you ever hear someone asking for a really long book? I think you'll find that the GNs on the sidebar are all amazing, even though they don't come in a large collection.
That being said, I think the complete Bone collection is decently priced ($22 !!). The paperback version of the complete Calvin & Hobbes looks to be priced insanely cheaply ($62) for the quality. It also looks like you can get the entire Y: The Last Man collection for $100.
I've built my collection (relatively) cheaply as follows:
edit: formatting
Having these on my bookshelf (Xmas gift a few years back) next to my warfield and machen collections keeps me warm and filled.
My kids are avid readers as well, finding what they want to read and plugging them in with that, is key, indeed.
Grace and peace.
If you're looking for something that covers everything in a pretty entertaining format, I would suggest the Cartoon History of the Universe. It's a thoroughly cited series of comic books that inject a good deal of humor and narrative into history. The format leads it a little too heavily into great man history at times, but overall it's fantastic, and features a lot of Chinese and other Asian history that I don't see a lot of in Western books for a general audience.
I'm partial to A Cartoon History of the Universe for several reasons:
I see that you like cross stitch ! I have always admired how cute they can be and the work put into them.
There is a kit i think is really cute ! Pusheen: A Cross-Stitch Kit
> I think Michael Bay was quoted somewhere saying he made movies more geared to teenage boys.
First off, let me state that I really don't care what people watch. I look at Michael Bay films as safely constructed roller coasters. As seen here the man has learned what bumps, twists, and turns he can use to engage an audience without challenging it. He reuses scenes and ideas in a way that no one ever notices and I think is a brilliant(if nihilistic) way to see guaranteed money.
Now, let me explain why I hate the, "I make movies for teenage boys" defense. It is completely dismissive of all the great art that has been made for adolescents. Seriously, most people don't stop and think about this, but there is some pretty incredible stuff out there. Here is a small list of some of the amazing work made for children and teens:
The Red Balloon
The Works of Winsor Mccay
Calvin and Hobbes
Looney Tunes
Princess Mononoke
Star Wars
The Horror Films Starring Vincent Price
Scott Pilgrim
Fullmetal Alchemist
People use the quote you supplied as a get out of jail free card for valid criticism and it drives me nuts. Like what ever you feel like, but don't be dismissive of discussion because of a pointless quote.
Awesome! I would suggest buying one of the collection books to see if it sparks her interest. The Tenth Anniversary Book is very affordable and is a great collection.
Wow, I think I was in the 7th grade the first time I read Squee (so about 6 or 7 years ago). Wish I still had my copy. Thanks for reminding me of one of my favorite books of all time.
I love these guys
My favorite food is Thai food, yummy!!
Love it. Ordered one. CHILDREN NEED MORE SCIENCE!
One of my son's favorites is the story about the X. He loves Introductory Calculus for Infants.
Thank you x 1 MILLION. Honestly, I owe Reddit so much. The printed book - is already in its third printing, people are loving it (advance copy readers http://www.amazon.com/Basic-Tips-Etiquette-Nathan-Pyle/dp/0062303112
AND the animated version of the book is also going to do really well, I think/hope https://itunes.apple.com/us/book/nyc-basic-tips-and-etiquette/id838645454?mt=11
The Complete Far Side 1980-1994 Every Far Side comic in glorious color. 2 Huge fucking books in a fabric wrapped case. One of the best Xmas gifts I ever got.
Rocky Horror Picture Show...
This is an amazing cult classic film that my Aunt got me turned onto when I was young. I have seen this movie quite a few times as well as been to the theater (if you have seen the movie and know anything about it you will know seeing it in the theater means the theater gets trashed with water guns, toilet paper, bread, and people dressed up) to see it as well. It is just a crazy fun movie to watch and participate in if you get a chance. I have a lot of great memories associated with this movie.

I didn't link out of respect to Gary.
I don't know what that blog is, but it basically paraphrases his notes in A Prehistory of the Far Side. As (somewhat rabid) Larson fan, I thank you for attempting to shed light on an amazing comic, but also ask you to remove the link.
If anyone missed Cow Tools or any of the Far Side cartoons, I suggest heading to the nearest seller of books.
Happy new years you nerd!
Pretty much all my days off/holidays involve hanging out with my family, or playing videogames, or both. I got some cool pony toys and such, and the best book ever. Calvin & Hobbes is my favorite comic of all time. I feel I kind of suck at giving, I'm not overly creative and I was quite limited this year. Mainly because of the amount of money I spent on the wife already earlier in the year.
Paperback's $59.55 (List price $100). Hardcover's out of stock but it's usually around $99. I'd suggest paperback cos it's easier to open and read. I collected the collections - There's something absolutely gorgeous about Bill Watterson's watercolor covers.
Do you like hip hop? Its not new but I've been listening to a lot of The cool kids and I'd love This book.
The Terrible and Wonderful Reasons Why I Run Long Distances is one that I love. Easy to read and he feels very much like an everyman.
They aren't cheap, but they're worth it
I'd recommend the (slightly) cheaper paperback versions if they are for kids since kids are good at destroying good things you love.
May I suggest "The Cartoon History of the Universe". AWESOME book(s). My 7 year old thinks it is one of the greatest books ever.

*hides your birthday present*
You were inspired to copy the picture from the cover of the 10th Anniversary Book? It's a nice copy, but I hope you're not trying to pass it off as original work.
The complete Calvin and Hobbes is always good for the aspiring genius. The hardcover edition is honestly beautiful.
You could take a page from Twain and tell them it's a lot like the billions of years before they were born, only longer. You could also get a copy of the wonderful All My Friends Are Dead and read it together. It's a hoot!
I have that big orange four-volume hardcover Calvin and Hobbes omnibus, and it's amazing, with annotations and all sorts of extra material. I'm pretty sure it's the only birthday or Christmas present that I've actually asked for in my adult life.
If I cut my hair, Hawaii will sink.
[I'd love this copy of one of my fav. comics] (http://www.amazon.com/Cyanide-and-Happiness-ebook/dp/B003V1WT9A/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=1OUQ8B0KGTG86&coliid=IJRLB7L7BRU2F) it's one of the 161 monthly deals.
Thanks so much!
This book is indispensable to transplants, giving some awesome information and details that will help them get going in the city.

Buy the glorious, hardbound, two-volume Complete Collection.

Watterston wrote all the text and provides a fascinating account of the struggles he endured on his way to creating Calvin and Hobbes and his unwavering, Herculean commitment to keep the strip pure despite an appalling alliance of greedy corporate cocksuckers who wanted to Brock Turner one of the greatest comics in modern history.
I bought this set a few months ago, sat down one morning on my couch is a soft, warm terrycloth robe and just cried while I turned the pages.
This appears in The PreHistory of the Far Side: A Tenth Anniversary Exhibit. Really worth the money if you are a Far Side fan. Includes the story of how it came to be, other mistakes that were made (both by him and his publishers), hate mail and the comics that inspired them (hilarious), drawings from his sketchbook (weird and cool), a collection of his all-time favourite Far Side strips, and a chapter called "Subtle Things". That chapter is my favourite part of the book. He talks about how small things can greater enhance or diminish humour, it's really interesting.
I loved the tenth anniversary edition, it has a lot of great strips and comments/reflection from Watterson himself.

Nothing is perfect or without issues, but Cartoon History of the Universe is as good a place to start as any.
If anything particularly piques your interest, then start going down that road to learn more.
While not that in depth, the China focused section of the Cartoon History of the Universe pt 2 gives a humorous overview to the Romance of the 3 Kingdoms era.
I work at a big chain bookstore and we carry them! They’re tiny little boxes and at my store they’re kept on an acrylic spinner with other small boxes, mostly collectible things. Also I did a quick search and found this on amazon and I’m pretty sure it’s the same thing :)
I love Christmas in April !
Thanks for the contest!

I wish they could have gotten an interview with Watterson. I know he's famously private, but getting his views would have been great...sigh...well I guess there's always the tenth anniversary book. I really loved reading his commentary.
That's cool :) Buffy season 8 has 8 volumes to be collected and are all pretty easy to get on amazon, Season 9 and A+F are still being released so final numbers arnt known yet, but up to volume 3 have been released. I also suggest getting Fray
Its a Buffy spin-off set in the far future which plays a big role in season 8, and its also my favourite comic ever :D
Mug Club!
I love C&H :)
Great comic strip... he's not doing them anymore, The Perry Bible Fellowship Almanack is well worth getting.

Own it, Love it. Read it every year and still enjoy it as much as when i got it. (Was a Christmas present from my wife a while back.)
I don’t know, his “All My Friends Are Dead” book sold pretty well.
If I were a book, I hope that I'd be a great one.

Hah, and here's me thinking I was going to have to explain a pop culture reference to reddit.
The hubris. The sheer hubris.
Also! Some rich benefactor needs to pay Bryan O'Malley to draw a story arc with pony characters.
Dat humor. Dat characterization.
Also #2, support O'Malley and buy the comics OR if you are poor/a dirty pirate who lives with the shame/some other reason, reply/PM me and I'll give you the comics in digital form because they are that good.
Tracer Bullet ftw. Love this set...I got this for Xmas last year and I got this the year before...great coffee table stuff
All my friends are Dead is another great one.
These Far Side books and these Calvin and Hobbes books are clearly showpiece.
They are also awesome.
The best gift my wife ever got me was "The Complete Far Side"
I got this last christmas. Just get it. It's awesome :)
[This] (http://www.amazon.com/How-Tell-Your-Plotting-Kill/dp/1449410243) may help you my friend!
Or [here] (http://theoatmeal.com/comics/cat_kill) to go straight to the signs.
the set on Amazon
My cousin got the paperback ones for his birthday a few years back. A family friend has the hardcovers and loves them.
I have The Complete Far Side 1980-1994 (2 vol set)
The thing weighs a TON, but I love it. I grew up reading them.
>did u make that comic? its pretty funny!
Enjoy.
This reminds me of a series I read many times throughout my teens:
Cartoon History of the Universe 1 Vol. 1-7: From the Big Bang to Alexander the Great, by Larry Gonick
See also, other volumes in the set:
The Cartoon History of the Universe II, Volumes 8-13: From the Springtime of China to the Fall of Rome (Pt.2)
The Cartoon History of the Universe III: From the Rise of Arabia to the Renaissance
NOTE: All contain somewhat mature language and illustrations, hence probably ~PG-13ish.
EDIT: I was misremembering the source.
I love the Far Side; best comic ever in my opinion.
This complete 2-volume set is a must-buy for any Far Side lover
http://www.amazon.com/The-Complete-Far-Side-1980-1994/dp/0740721135/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1330897260&sr=8-1
A little pricey at $95, but very high quality set...
Yay! First contest is always a blast. I just had mine a couple of days ago on my Bday!
My actual cheapest item is an Add-On item. So if we're counting that then here it is
Cheapest item would be The Last Samurai
Something else that I want would be Assassin's Creed IV
or
Calvin and Hobbes!
If you ever want a good summary of world history check out The Cartoon History of the Universe. It's well-researched and fun to read.
He's pretty darn young. Still, calculus is incredibly broad, and can be taught at different levels. If there's middle school calculus, high school calculus and college calculus (or many different levels), why not also elementary school calculus? Perhaps with interactive learning resources, it could even be quite fun and intuitive (though unfortunately they don't seem to be reaching this kid).
Heck, there's even introductory calculus for infants!
From the book: The PreHistory of The Far Side: A 10th Anniversary Exhibit
It's a great book, and a must have for any Far Side fan.
Edit: To clarify, the text under the caption is Larson's take on the comic.
I'm guessing Dragon's Blood cause it sounds awesome.
This please if I win
Welcome, mate! Glad to have you. This will help.
If you want to learn a ton while being entertained the entire time I can't suggest anything better than the Cartoon History of the Universe. This book is pure win.
Aw you poor thing, that must be so hard! Happy birthday to your beautiful baby though! Atleast you'll get to give her lots of snugs when you finish work :)
Noodles!
I'd love anything from my wishlist but especially this!
We're both engineers, so we're thinking of a picture of two of our textbooks with something silly like Introductory Calculus for Infants between them.
It's a little silly, but more cute than just posting an ultrasound picture to facebook.
Good guy /u/nathanwpyle never plugs his book when he posts on reddit, so I will because it's very good:
NYC Basic Tips and Etiquette

Hmm, confused. I'm sure I have this at home, but I thought I only had Squee's Wonderful Big Giant Book of Unspeakable Horrors. Going to have to check after work now.

I LOVE THIS BOOK
You actually bring up a very interesting point and it's something most people don't realize about the law.
In court, you're technically bound by whatever law you swear on. Since our legal system's based on English common law, which is roughly Judeo-Christian, the Bible's the default.
But that actually becomes part of the problem with Gitmo. All the terrorists there want to swear on the Koran, binding them with Sharia law. And under that law, killing infidels is nbd, so they'd be free to go. To counter that we're playing the waiting game, not giving them trials until they fold and agree to swear on something else. We're hoping to haggle them down to at least the Talmud, maybe the Vedas.
Now you're suggesting swearing on Wonder Woman's lasso of truth, in comic form. Let me tell you, that's a losing strategy. Not only does that require you to tell the truth, but if things go wrong you could end up in some kinky bondage situation.
Here's what I recommend instead: swear on a copy of Calvin and Hobbes. Congratulations, now you are bound by the laws of Calvinball.
And in Calvinball, you make the rules.
Check this out it has some pretty interesting stuff in it if you're willing to read it.

All My Friends Are Dead
It might not take you very long to read, but it is enjoyable dinosaur fiction.
Watterson delves extensively into your second, third, seventh and last questions in The Calvin and Hobbes Tenth Anniversary Book. The whole book was written by him and is a fascinating journey through the time he spent with Calvin and Hobbes. A must read for any fan of the series.
Added 5 new Therapist quests
why not spend $100 and show the author your appreciation by buying the complete set if you like it so much?
Pretty sure it's this one! https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/1409175847/ref=dbs_a_w_dp_1409175847
I have always thought that this book was cool! Thanks for the contest!
I don't know why copyright infringement is called in times like this, which basically serves as a free advertisement. Buy the complete works, people. There are many more like this!
OMG thank you so much random reddit friend. Do you have the link?
Edit nvm scrolled down and found it
Thanks for the order but where do these fit in.
Frey
Spike: The Complete Series
Or is the Spike one not canon?
Just a warning, season 8 feels pretty different than the show. Joss realised this and made season 9 have more of a grounded show-feel. You should also check out the graphic novel Fray, which is set in the distant future but ties in a bunch with season 8. You might even want to get it first as it sets up some plot points in S8 really well because it was published years earlier.
One of my favorites. He actually expanded this into a full-length book of comics and stories related to running. It comes out the end of the month, and I definitely already have my copy pre-ordered.
Perhaps one of the best Christmas gifts I've received!
It's a graphic novel by Brian Lee O'Malley. This is the first one.
Check it out, they're all very good.
Firstly, before I start:
I LOVE YOUR TASTE! Your Doctor Who list kept me busy for quite a while! Followed, of course, by the NSFW list. Price limit kept me out of these lists though. But, I decided something you would need would be....
This book. You obviously have a cat, and you need to be prepared for the worst. I know there are cats out there that don't have world domination on their mind, but what if your cat was one of the ones that does want to dominate the world!? How would you know?! You need to study this book! FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY! This should probably be in your "I need this" list. In fact, you should already have gotten this!
If your cat is trying to take over the world, then it will have to start with killing you. This book will keep you alive! BUY IT!
Is this a page from All My Friends are Dead? I'm sure I recognise it.
Yes, yes I believe you are. Purchase immediately.
I wish I had those, I have the super-fancy archival quality three volume set here but I'm always afraid to open them. I wish I still had my oversized paperback books with the creased covers and occasional half-colored comic.
I've never seen Yukon Ho!... I must have it, Although I do have this, there's something awesome about having the originals.
A great source for a teen is Larry Gonick's The Cartoon History of the Universe (specifically, volume 2: https://www.amazon.com/Cartoon-History-Universe-Volumes-8-13/dp/0385420935).
It's accessible and funny, but it's also carefully done.
I have it and the complete far side. Love them both
I can't express to you how much I love The Far Side. I mean, I have calendars, random books and, of course, The Complete Far Side.
Currently available on Amazon.co.uk if you don't mind paying the shipping. Gave it as a gift last Christmas but read it myself first, would recommend.
SO bought me the Complete Calvin and Hobbes collection. Love that boy.
Also, I still watch Arthur on TV whenever I catch it.
I recommend the 10th Anniversary Book, because it has author commentary beneath most of the comics that really adds to the experience of reading it now that we're old enough to appreciate getting a real glimpse into the mind of Bill Watterson.
The Complete Calvin and Hobbes
My wife got it for my 28th birthday and it was one of the greatest gifts i've ever gotten.
At least one of them is a best seller.
https://www.amazon.com/All-My-Friends-Are-Dead/dp/0811874559
Hands down the best purchase I've ever made.
This one because I just love their comics.
pineapple
When it was supposed to be renewed it was bought by someone else before it could be renewed by Nick probably.
You can still get his book and enjoy the [PBF collection](http://www.amazon.com/Perry-Bible-Fellowship-Almanack/dp/1593079885/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1269510447&sr=8-1 "Bookbookbookbookbookbook") in [book form](http://www.amazon.com/Perry-Bible-Fellowship-Almanack/dp/1593079885/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1269510447&sr=8-1 "Is this a book?"), as though it were a [book of some sort](http://www.amazon.com/Perry-Bible-Fellowship-Almanack/dp/1593079885/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1269510447&sr=8-1 "The book type of sort").
Here ya go. I have it and its awesome.
The Cartoon History of the Universe is surprisingly good in this regard.
http://www.amazon.com/Cartoon-History-Universe-Vol-Pt-1/dp/0385265204
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/0836204387/ref=redir_mdp_mobile/191-1258099-3497248
Here you go, own it myself. Great read.
Gotta get the Tenth Anniversary Book. Great commentary by Mr. Watterson.
The box set plus these: http://www.amazon.ca/Calvin-Hobbes-Tenth-Anniversary-Book/dp/0836204387 http://www.amazon.ca/Calvin-Hobbes-Sunday-Pages-1985-1995/dp/0740721356 make for a great collection.
Well, it's the title of the first collection, but I'm guessing people mostly meant the strip in general. There is a complete collection of Calvin and Hobbes strips that you can get for just under $100 if you're interested.
Wow that’s a real book!
Introductory Calculus For Infants https://www.amazon.com/dp/0987823914/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_-RHbBbT6AHTYN

How to Tell If Your Cat Is Plotting to Kill You
But I think in this case it's pretty obvious. Good bye Op, may you rest in peace.
The Story of Life https://www.amazon.com/dp/1409175847?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
I pre-ordered it, came in a couple weeks ago, it's fantastic!
Well, if you like invader zim, you should really try Johnny the Homicidal Maniac and Squee!. Two comics from the 90s, drawn and written by the same guy. Disturbingly funny.
Its not a shirt but this might also be a good present... Basically a comic book about running by the oatmeal.

Read the comic series it came from... trust me, you won't regret ithttps://www.amazon.com/Scott-Pilgrim-Vol-Pilgrims-Precious/dp/1932664084
Not sure. Found this pic today after the new Jojo's episode and thought, "hmm...."
After Google image search, apparently the book is by Chris (Simpsons Artist). The artist has a book called The Story of Life available for pre-order on Amazon. Still not 100% sure, but I think it's safe to assume that this page in is that book (if not, another book of theirs). Every other page I've seen has been similarly bonkers.
Someone below me replied with the link, not sure if you get notified by it or not. It’s https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1409175847/ref=nodl_?pf_rd_p=2d1ab404-3b11-4c97-b3db-48081e145e35&pf_rd_r=T319EPXE8HZ75ZGFZC9H&utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app
And congratulations to your niece!
I suggest a cartoon history of the Universe. It's brilliant.

You should check it out - the collection is Squee's Wonderful Big Giant Book of Unspeakable Horrors.
84's about when it stopped being funny.
Interesting, too, because if you compare it to Calvin and Hobbes you see who the real artist was. One sold out and plastered the image of his cartoon on everything. The other simply retired and let his work speak for itself.
http://www.amazon.com/Calvin-Hobbes-Tenth-Anniversary-Book/dp/0836204387/ref=sr_11_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1221103096&sr=11-1
Bill Watterson has done commentary in this book, including on some of the strips in the link. It was wonderful to read his thoughts about the strip.
If you're willing to put in a decent chunk of cash, I'd suggest getting The Complete Calvin and Hobbes Collection. Otherwise, I'd suggest going with "The Essential Calvin and Hobbes." I seem to remember that one being my favorite book growing up.
You might enjoy the depiction of Socrates in The Cartoon History of the Universe. It doesn't contain any great revelation about his philosophy, but it does convey what you've described quite well.
This is one of my most prized possessions.
These are among the few things both interesting and light enough reading that 1 minute intervals work:
Cartoon History of the Universe I - from the Big Bang to Alexander the Great
Cartoon History of the Universe II - from the springtime of China to the fall of Rome
Cartoon History of the Universe III - from the rise of Arabia to the Renaissance
Cartoon History of the Modern World I - from Columbus to the U.S. Constitution
Cartoon History of the Modern World II - from the Bastille to Baghdad
How to Tell If Your Cat Is Plotting to Kill You may be the perfect gift for your SO :)
May I ask how much the hospital is charging you?
I'm interested because as a european I have no clue about the us health system and all I saw in the last weeks was Trump in the news, saying Obamacare is bullshit.
Get well soon
All My Friends Are Dead by Jory John and Avery Monsen
Most non readers dont want to invest time into something long. So get him this. It is entertaining and should get a point across, if you choose to bring it up :)
I implore you all to check out a copy of The Calvin and Hobbes Tenth Anniversary Book, wherein Bill Watterson talks about Calvin and Hobbes (and its evolution) in depth. It's fantastic.
Depending on her sense of humor, I'd recommend the Oatmeal comic book on running - http://www.amazon.com/Terrible-Wonderful-Reasons-Long-Distances/dp/1449459951
This one?
I hope he comes out with a new book!
