So first thing's first, Windows: ~$130 for Home Edition.

Okay, so things to keep in mind:

  1. If you go Intel, overclocking isn't too great on 9th gen intel, especially if you don't have a beefy aftermarket cpu cooler. So if you don't plan on doing that at some point then you don't need a K series CPU and an overclocking motherboard. So your motherboard should primarily focus on giving you decent I/O options.

  2. You also probably want to aim for 1080p or 1440p tops, given your price range.

  3. Related to #1: If you don't plan on overclocking then a basic-ish mobo will do fine, and you mainly want to focus on I/O and other features. If you are getting Intel doubly so, as, as I mentioned before, intel 9th gen doesn't overclock well due to relatively low headroom to begin with. For intel overclocking boards are "Z" while non-overclocking boards are "B". For AMD they are "X" and "B" respectively.

The GPU you should be seeking to use is the 1660 Ti, which is basically a slightly gimped RTX 2060 but without the raytracing stuff. If you are willing to spend a bit more then you could get an RX 5700 instead, which is nearly ~30% faster on average.

That'll put you at $270 - $360 depending on the model you pick. Yes, it's a third of your budget, but the GPU is the single most important part of your build.

Secondly you'll want a decent CPU to go with that.

The Ryzen 5 3600 looks like a pretty good CPU, its a bit under $200, its fairly beefy and extendable so it's somewhat "future-proof" - in that it shouldn't cause much bottlenecking and you could upgrade your GPU past a 2080 Ti before needing to change the processor.

This MSI Tomohawk Mobo looks good for the 3600.

So we're at ~$320 for that, or about $640 total. Plus windows that is ~$730.

The RAM Inty recommended before should be fine. You only really need 16 GB. This will set you back ~$80. If you find yourself wanting more RAM later down the line you can always add another pair of sticks later and double up your RAM.

That puts us at around ~$800.

$80 for a 750W Fully Modular Corsair PSU is basically a steal. It's refurbished though, although that shouldn't be a problem - especially with a PSU.

    We're at ~$880.

Some good thermal paste for your CPU.

    We're now at ~$890.

Storage depends on what you want to do. Do you install a lot of stuff and files at once? In which case you might want to get a nice sized SSD plus a big HDD.

For your system drive. Plenty of space, good price, AND its an nvme SSD.

    That makes for ~$990.

If you need lots of extra space

If you need extreme extra space

Keyboard and case are up to you, decide as you please. For the case just make sure that it can support an ATX mobo, as the mobo listed here is full ATX. Mechanical keyboards are crack, but they tend to be more expensive so they're probably out of range. This will be another $100 to $150 depending on what you pick.

Something to keep in mind though: Your case and your monitors are basically "future proof". In other words, they won't really get "worse" with time or cause future performance issues. So monitors and case are things where you want to consider what you'll eventually want and buy ahead, even if you have to stretch a bit.

This just leaves your monitor. I would NOT recommend a 1080p monitor above 24 in. Honestly, if you can go for a 1440p monitor then do it. I'm a bit of a resolution whore tho, so if 1080p works for you then that's fine. I would also avoid TN panels - they tend to look more washed out, tinny, and have worse viewing angles . . . although they also tend to be a fair bit cheaper than the good panels (namely IPS panels).

I used to own one of these . . . it was vvy vvy gud. This is a relatively artsy monitor, so if color gamut correctness or whatever is important for you for photo or video editing or whatever, then this is a good pick. It's a bit expensive, yeah, but also super gorgeous. It also goes up to 75 Hz. Conversely, get a freesync monitor, and this one is probably good - haven't done much research on it, but Dells are generally pretty good in my experience (my current 4K monitor is a Dell too). Freesync will allow you to basically eliminate screen tearing and will provide a smoother feeling experience because it will even out frame rates better.

One last thing to keep in mind: Shopping around on ebay and other sites can save you a fair bit. My rule of thumb is to never, ever buy sensitive parts like hard-drives, cpus, or motherboards second hand or refurbished. But everything else is fair game. So refurbished GPUs, Monitors, PSUs, Cases, etc. should be fine. Pre-owned? Ehhh . . . that I'm much, much more sketchy on - personally I wouldn't, but that's just me.

So in total it'd be somewhere in the range of $1500 including monitor, OS, case, and keyboard. The system itself is around $1000. But you can perhaps knock off a hundred bucks or two by shopping around and looking for where you can buy these parts cheaper than Amazon.

But again: investing in a good monitor and case can be worth it. It means you won't have to replace it if/when you do upgrade. And worst case scenario you can offload your monitor as a side/secondary monitor when you upgrade your monitor to a new one.
u/Zerim · 1 pointr/Bravenewbies

I've been helping people pick computer parts a lot lately, and here's my go-to current build (as in, where I feel price/performance is optimized)--it's usually around $1000, NOT including monitors. I built two for my company (minus the video card), and they are wonderful. If you want to compare: CPUs, GPUs.

>Cases cheaper than this price point will become flimsy, break, literally cut you, and otherwise fall apart over time. I like the way the 200R is, too--no LEDs, no weird shapes, and 2.5" drive slots.

This is at $1015 + tax--still over budget, but going much cheaper really starts to bite into your experiences (and if anyone here can recommend anything to save money, I welcome it).

As for monitors, if you're playing EVE, honestly I'd recommend a 2560x1440 monitor because spreadsheets. However, since those start around $300, my go-to cheaper monitors are the not-bad 22" 1080p ones that can be had for around $140.

Source: I've done IT for the past few years, and done dozens of computer purchases/builds.

Notes: I don't buy AMD or ATI unless it's an extreme budget build. I don't buy off-brand because I've had parts break and then not have an RMA available; I've had good experience and RMA support with Corsair and EVGA. You don't really need a CD/DVD drive; you can install Windows from a USB key, but if you're unsure, CD/DVD drives are like $15. If you go with Intel/nVidia Maxwell, you won't really need a >500W PSU.

I don't like to skimp on computers much because, economically, if you're spending even 5-10% of your time waiting for your computer and you earn $10-25/hr, $1000 is paid for in somewhere between 2000-250 hours of use, yet the computer will last at least 3-5 years.

I just spent a full hour writing about this but it got deleted by my mistake :-:
I recommend these parts

The CPU is good enough for the game you will be playing, the motherboard is good enough and more expensive ones sell you feature you don't need. The RAM will do you fine and is enough for any game you want and the GPU will be perfect for 1080p with 3GB of VRAM. For storage, go with a cheap 500GB HDD but I would certainly recommend an SSD for the future. The power supply will do you fine no matter what anyone else says, trust me (powers my R9 280X which is a LOT more power hungry).
I would recommend looking round Ebay, Facebook selling sites etc etc for any used components or 'starting points' with Ebay being the best bet in my opinion due to the massive amounts of sellers. If you see a 6600 or a 6600k for the same or less than on Amazon, snag it up and make sure to have a CPU cooler with it (stock will do you again, I have experience with 6600/6500 running on stock coolers and it's perfectly fine)

Sorry if the response looks rushed, I had a better one but I clicked something and it deleted :'(
Would love to hear about how the build goes, may your frames be high and temperatures at a low enough level!

EDIT BEFORE POSTING : 'Bomba' recommended an 8GB RX 470 - that's pointless for 1080p in my opinion and having a Pentium Dual core isn't something anyone would crave. I also have bad experience with Corsair PSUs but I haven't tried the 450W.

u/71aaf6bfe05f94b6c449 · 1 pointr/buildapc

go with 2700x instead of the 1900x. if you have a use case for high core count then i recommend the 2950x. but you probably don't need it because the 2700x is awesome. 2700x also has 8 cores like the 1900x but you can go am4 rather than tr4 and save money on your motherboard. you'll also have a lesser power draw and a more compact case. 850W seems more than enough i think you can downsize to 650W. i like to spend a little more on the power supply. by going 2700x i would spend some of the money saved on a higher rated power supply. also if you switch to 2700x the stock cooler is pretty based so you can save money by using it. for memory i suggest using samsung b-die it had better success with 1st gen ryzen.

here's a parts list for a decent 2700x build:

https://www.amazon.com/MSI-Crossfire-Motherboard-B450-Tomahawk/dp/B07F7W5KJS

https://www.amazon.com/AMD-Ryzen-Processor-Wraith-Cooler/dp/B07B428M7F

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA68V7V28503

that prices out around $1050. it does not price in a graphics card, for which the Sapphire Vega 56 card you listed is already a great pick. i think those go for around $300 today. if you can re-use your current case and already have thermal paste you can decrease the price by about $150. assuming you can get a Sapphire Vega 56 for around $300 this build prices out $1200 total.

u/Efriim · 2 pointsr/RetroPie

I haven't used any handheld pi. I guess there are some good alternatives though.

NDS with charger. $25 - $40 (I would get the DSi) (DSlite bumpers and things tend to wearout)

A flash cart for NDS. $15 - $20 (DSTT I hear is best) (Acekard2i is great) (R4 is hard to tell the model) (DSTWO flashcart drains battery life, is overpriced, but has built in cpu and emulators for gba snes and genesis) All are compatible with 3ds, NDS, DSi.

MicroSD. $10. Samsung EVO 32gb on amazon is a good deal

The DS has a lot of great games, snes and genesis emulators work okay but not the best. GBA emulation only works with dstwo or ez-flash.

Total $50 - $70.

PSVITA w/ charger $110 - $150. Never used one, cfw is available for firmware up to 3.68. The firmware 3.69 is not hackable.

Vita Memory Card + microsd $20. Since the proprietary memory card are so expensive.

PSVITA & TV are cfw compatible up to 3.67 - 3.68, however there may be some homebrew incompatibility on these firmwares. 3.69 is not compatible yet. CFW can load PSP homebrew as well as play PS1.

Total $130 - $170

Wii U complete console $140. Used - Very good

SD card. $15 Sandisk 64gb Extreme SDXC

DS Virtual Console Game $10 From E-shop, needed to play DS on Console/Gamepad screens.

Emulates Nintendo up to DS, has an abandoned PSX emulator from the wii. Portable and Console for TV.

Total $165

The consoles and handhelds fluctuate in price. PSvita TV was low as $40 at one time, they are a bit inflated right now but collectors items will hold value. Finding one second hand or used for half-price is probable a used PSP is easy to find for $40 but not online.

RPI $25 - $40 RPI3b+ is what I have connected to my TV. The RPI2 is similar to RPI0 and emulates PSX but not all, as per the RPI3B+. There are many SBCs, I think the OdroidC2 and Tinkerboard and NanoPI M4 are all interesting but I have not used them.

Case + Heatsink and fan $25 - $30 There are other cases Argon One, SuperPI Retroflag, many others, some bundles heatsink and fan are necessary for the rpi3b+. The retroflag controllers are not preferred.

Power Supply $15 or official raspberry pi power supply.

MicroSD $10

Controllers $15 - $35 There are a lot of options here, recycle your PS3 or XBOX360 controller, Buy a corded Ibuffalo Snes, 8bitdo SF30, logitech, retro-bit/retrolink n64. I think only the RPI3B+ and RPI Zero W have bluetooth, else an adapter is needed.

Total $75 - $130

&&&

$50 (zero W + microsd + psu) + all the parts for building a gameboy zero

battery ~15

powerblock ~20

usb teensy ~15

controllermodule ~10

lcd and shield ~30

case ~20?

main buttons ~10?

audio amp and speaker ~10?

extra buttons and switches, wheels ~15?

Total ~$195

Hopefully I can answer a couple questions for you;

Price really depends on brand and what you want out of it, personally I have the ASUS Z97-A which is a board I love which I got at what I believe to be a fair price ($150) As you can see it has three PCIe x16 lanes, which may be a little overkill but if I ever wanted to use SLI I could easily fit three full video cards happily in there. Ports and specifics are not what you should be too focused on. Obviously you need USB and SATA ports and stuff like that, but all of that stuff is fairly standard across all motherboards. Most commonly you'll have more ports than what you need. The CPU socket needs to match the CPU size, most commonly you'll see an LGA 1150 for intel, and for AMD they have the AM2, AM3 etc. If you are using a Skylake Intel Chip, than you need a board with the newer LGA 1151 board. It is very important that the CPU you order fits in the motherboards socket, or else when you put the two together it wont boot up and you'll be dead in the water.

You should use https://pcpartpicker.com/ to map out a build. Its a great tool that will let you know if you have any incompatibilities in your rig before you spend a dime.

Good luck with your build, feel free to PM me with any other questions, I'm on mobile all the time so I should get back to you pretty quickly.

Notes:

GPU - I was also considering the 5700XT which gets pretty cheap at Micro Center. I feel like the 2070 Super is worth the upgrade, but I'd like some input here.

Mobo - I was also looking at the Asrock B450 which is $65 cheaper at Micro Center when combined with the CPU. I was reading that you need a 2nd Gen Ryzen to flash the BIOS though? Also that it's not as good for overclocking.

Windows - Is this guide for free windows legit? https://www.windowscentral.com/you-do-not-need-activate-windows-10

Cooling - Are there any cooling concerns with this build? Aftermarket coolers I should buy or fans I should add to the case?

General advice - I've built a PC in the past but just kind of plugging everything in and hoping it worked. Any guides that you could give me would be appreciated. Voltages to check, how to overclock the CPU, overclocking the RAM, any fine tuning for the GPU, testing to make sure the IPS monitor doesn't have backlight bleeding, I've never used a modular power supply before, etc.

CPU: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07STGGQ18/ref=ox_sc_act_image_8?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1

The Ryzen 5 3600 is the best CPU for the buck at this time. It is built on the new 7nm Zen 2 node and is unlocked for overclocking. It also well excel at moderate workstation.

GPU: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07WRYC3MT/ref=ox_sc_act_image_2?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1

This 5700XT model is one of the best in terms of value for performance. It has a great design as well as good thermals. The 5700XT will completely shred any game right now at 1080p and will run AAA titles at 1440p60FPS with minimum problems.

RAM: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07TS98LM6/ref=ox_sc_act_image_6?smid=A26PVB3960EU85&psc=1

The Viper 4 series is great in terms of value. Patriot makes some good product, and this is one of them. DDR4 3200 is natively supported by Zen 2, and there’s no XMP profile required. 16GB is enough for virtually any game out there.

SSD: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07H5355JF/ref=ox_sc_act_image_5?smid=A2UXO5LPTDY3LN&psc=1

Adata is on of my favorite memory brands out there. The SX6000 is a strong value contender on the market. You’ll see good improvement in read and write speeds over SATA-based SSDs and Hard Drives. 512GB of solid NVMe storage at only $59.99 is a great deal.

Motherboard: https://www.amazon.com/MSI-Crossfire-Motherboard-B450-Tomahawk/dp/B07WF6ZQST/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?keywords=msi+b450+tomahawk+max&qid=1573476715&sprefix=msi+b450+tomahawk+&sr=8-1

This motherboard has everything on B450 boards, as well as native Zen 2 support. The Tomahawk also supports overclocking, which you stated as something that you planned to do. Overall, just a great B450 board. Make sure you pick up a MAX version.

PSU: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00BK7BEPC/ref=ox_sc_act_image_4?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1

This a good power supply in terms of value. It is certified 80+ Bronze and is also semi-modular. This power supply also comes with a decent 3 year warranty. 650W is enough to power the system, even if overclocked. It also has some wiggle room for future system upgrades.

AIO Cooler: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07QPNP4VP/ref=ox_sc_act_image_3?smid=A1TG24VCRPTZ06&psc=1

Since you will be overclocking and want RGB, I decided to add an AIO to the budget. This allows more OC space and better thermals during overclocking. The DeepCool captain is a good budget AIO. Mount this on the top of the case.

Case: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07KGSJRC3/ref=ox_sc_act_image_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1

Solid case overall. This case comes with Corsair RGB fans that you can sync with Mystic Light software from the motherboard. This case has RGB and also a tempered glass design for less than $80. It also has decent airflow.

This system is about $1K, but with an employee discount, you are looking at a little bit over $900.

The CanaKit ones are usually good as a starting point (unless you don't want to buy the components individually, though as another person said, the power supplies that ship with them aren't the greatest.

If you DO want to buy the components individually, however, you only need to get the board itself, an optional case, and the power supply. Here's what I've seen most people use.

  • Raspberry Pi 3 B+ (around $35 USD. It's the most powerful iteration of the Raspberry Pi. It might fit your needs, as it can play PS1 games pretty well.
  • Official Raspberry Pi Power Supply (5V/2.5A)

You could also invest in heatsinks or fans if you want to keep the Pi a bit cooler in temperature. Or, you could also buy a Flirc case, which is around $15 USD, which acts as a giant heatsink. It's one of the more popular cases around here, and for good reason. It's very reasonably priced in my opinion, and it does a good job at keeping the Pi nice and cool, so you don't need a fan.

Speaking of cases, if you want that retro console look, there are some pretty good options, with one of the most well known case makers being Retroflag. They don't come with any form of cooling like heatsinks and fans, so you'll have to provide those separately.

If you are asking about controllers, you can use both wired USB or wireless Bluetooth controllers as well (though you'll need to have at least a USB controller or a keyboard connected to the Pi for the first part of setting it up which will ask you to configure your controls which work across the RetroPie environment (that includes EmulationStation which is used to launch your games, and RetroArch which powers most of the emulators included with the default RetroPie install).

You can read the RetroPie documentation for more information on RetroPie itself too.

How soon do you plan on building this? If you can wait a couple months the NVIDIA GTX 880 will be out soon, and it's supposed to be around the price of the 770 when it came out (about $400, US). This is probably the worst time of the year to build a computer. Devil's Canyon and Z97 did just come out, but Intel is still do for X99 and Haswell-E, NVIDIA is releasing Maxwell, and AMD probably has some stuff being announced soon.

Otherwise it looks good, the only things I would change would be the power supply (for an EVGA SuperNOVA), the motherboard (to something from ASUS), I would maybe get a cheaper SSD as the 850 Pro series don't really offer much more for the premium. An 840 EVO or a Crucial MX100 of the same price would be the optimal as far as price/performance. I would also recommend against getting a 7.1 headset, I've tried them and they're terrible, as an alternative I'd get a cheap pair of studio headphones like the Audio-Technica ATH-M50 and a desktop microphone.

Edit 1: I would recommend getting a case with better airflow as well. Something like the Phanteks Enthoo Pro is a good value case with much better airflow, and has a nice aesthetic.

Thank you for your build. I do have a couple questions:

CPU: Looks great

Motherboard: Pc PartPicker warning: Some AMD B450 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Matisse CPUs. Upgrading the BIOS may require a different CPU that is supported by older BIOS revisions.
Also, I see there is an MSI B450 Tomahawk MAX on amazon for $10 more than the Gaming Plus MAX. It seems to be very similar, the main difference to me is the color scheme. Are these actually similarly performing motherboards, and would I create issues by using the Tomahawk for the preferred color scheme? Link: https://www.amazon.com/MSI-Crossfire-Motherboard-B450-Tomahawk/dp/B07WF6ZQST/ref=sr_1_2?crid=3L1UL77PVON4S&keywords=b450+tomahawk+max&qid=1570719603&s=electronics&sprefix=b450+toma%2Celectronics%2C184&sr=1-2

Memory: Looks great

Storage: Looks great

Video Card: Looks great. Only question is PowerColor vs XFX. The XFX seems to be $20 cheaper. Not sure why. Link: https://www.amazon.com/XFX-Radeon-GDDR6-Graphics-RX-57XL8MFG6/dp/B07T81CGFY

Power supply: On board with this. That said, I've never had an issue with the power supply. Is this more of a "Fix it before it inevitably breaks" or some other reason?

Case: I'm pretty sure I shouldn't have space issues with my case. There's enough room to almost fit a second motherboard of the size I have. That said, after your recommendations I still have between $60-100 I could spend on a case. The current one I have is just solid black metal. Pretty old and outdated. Would you happen to have a recommendation on a case that maybe has some windows or isn't just a blob?

Again, thank you for your input.

u/SammyStoner117 · 1 pointr/pcgamingtechsupport

The stuttering, not sure if it's fixed or not. Blacklight retribution stuttered like crazy, dx11 fixed stutter but broke the game(google search confirmed dx11 is broke for that game), jumped in planetside 2 later and seemed to not stutter and looked smoother, but could just be random luck and will be back next time I play :/ As far as Ryzen, was looking at it but kinda questioning it though. The leaked benchmarks look to be between the i7 6800k and i7 6900k, but for gaming looked to fall between the i5 6500 and the i5 6600(the difference was only a couple percent between both the i5's and the Ryzen). Also seems all the Ryzen versions are overclockable, as long as you have one of the boards they allow you to overclock on(which was like 3).The price is unknown at this point, so who knows if the Ryzen or an i5 would be better for the price, and for all we know the benchmarks might look good but then the Ryzen could just fall on it's face when thrown in with different systems once released.

> Alternatively you could pick up a new mobo and an Intel i3

I'm thinking of just doing this after what you said, getting a new motherboard and an i3, though not sure which version to get. Looked around and kinda settled on the i3 6100 for $117 on amazon, take it this would be okay? As far as motherboards, looks like im probably going to need to buy new ram which is another $50-60 as looks like the i3 only supports DDR4(though I found DDR3 mobo that supports the 1151 socket). Looking at this Gigabyte board and this DDR4 ram which are hopefully okay.

> As a side-note, additional RAM wont make your system faster unless you're constantly running out of RAM either by browsing the net with a ridiculous number of tabs open, or audio/video editing

Yeah kinda figured, just was thinking of upgrading the ram because in planetside 2 my ram usage goes up to 88%(that's without ultra textures, that says uses more ram. Got similar usage when on all low even). Guess im basically running out of ram though. Game itself is eating up almost 6gb of ram(as my system idles around 1.80-2.30gb, not sure why it jumps around so much from start up to start up though)

Also thank you for your help so far, think this is probably the most help i've gotten so far

u/WirelessZombie · 2 pointsr/bapcsalescanada

Appreciate it, I'll just keep replying here if that's cool. Don't mind either way about PM but I do find lurkers might appreciate some of the advice. I'm set on the 2600, and its now 185 on Amazon so that helps. I'm pretty set on the tomahawk Mobo too which I think is lowest if you have prime.

I would like to see pics of the case, I hate the one I have its so dull and bulky but not also huge fan of the "I'M A GAMER" cases, which seem overpriced regardless. One you have is nice.

I might upgrade to a 1070 in a year+, from what I can tell that still pairs nicely with a 2600 but wanted to check. and lastly I do have 16 Gb of Ram but would consider getting some that works best with the Mobo and amd, did you already have Ram or did you buy to compliment the board.

edit: also would love a quite setup, my computer makes a decent amount of noise and I use it as part of the entertainment system.

> competitive fps's and MMORPG's.

Go Intel over AMD based on current generation hardware. Competitive FPS generally means high framerates. That means single-core performance is the big difference here. MMOs are highly single-thread dependent. In both cases, Intel wins with current hardware.

Refer to my other reply (which you may have already seen at this point) for further explanation on why I believe Intel is better for your needs. However, I'd advise waiting to see what the Ryzen 3000 series offers if you have the luxury of waiting. If even conservative speculation comes to pass, it may finally match Intel in single-threaded performance while maintaining the multi-threaded advantage. Best of both worlds, if it comes to pass.

> From what i read the 16 threads are what make the ryzen a good choice, but looking at the benchmarks the 9600k looks so much better.

Cores/threads are only useful if the software is using it. The majority of today's games don't benefit from more than 4 cores, even accounting for OS/system/background tasks. We are starting to see a push for games using 6-8 threads, thankfully, but even then, the 6 faster cores of the 9600k outperform the 8 slower cores of the 2700X.

> My point is from what i saw on videos more threads might be better for playing MMORPG's.

MMOs don't really benefit from more threads. They benefit from faster single-core performance. Using World of Warcraft as an example, they added in DX 12 support with patch 8.0, and added basic multi-threading (draw calls split across cores/threads) in 8.1. It still favors faster single core performance, [AS SEEN HERE] (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c5fHtDZehmw).

> btw whats a good MB for either case?

I'm actually waiting for the Ryzen 3000 series myself, but I have an Intel backup plan in place should it disappoint. If going Intel, I recommend [THIS BOARD] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07HM753YR). If the high-end Wifi doesn't matter, save a bit and step down to THIS for some cost savings. These boards are otherwise offer a similar experience.

If going with current gen AMD Ryzen, I prefer [THIS BOARD] (https://www.amazon.com/MSI-Performance-Motherboard-B450-PRO/dp/B07F85YKLJ). Not an MSI fanboy, just really fond of their current generation hardware, and I prefer boards with competent Wifi.

You can get a B150 for $42 on Newegg at the moment delivery included in the price, which is a slightly better mobo than a H110 - it's apparently an $85 value (Amazon also charge $85 for it)... $25 off if you buy before Friday, plus a $20 mail in rebate. That's a really good deal.
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/8RkwrH/msi-motherboard-b150mbazooka

H110/B150s are about $10 less than 250s, but are also on sale like this more frequently. You can also find some second hand for about $30-35

https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B0165YUDTM/ref=sr_1_1_olp?ie=UTF8&qid=1493242822&sr=8-1&keywords=h110

http://www.ebay.com/sch/Motherboards/1244/i.html?_from=R40&_mPrRngCbx=1&_udlo=&_udhi=45&_nkw=h110&rt=nc&LH_BIN=1

Basically as best I know with these, they do not work with a G4560 off the bat, but if you put the 6500 in it when you first run the system you can do a quick bios update that enables Kaby Lake support, then take out the 6500 and replace it with the 4560 which will work perfectly fine.

As is there is $25 left in the budget, so if you get one of these for $40 that's $45 left in the budget. If he thinks he can sell the 750 TI let's say for $85 then he has $130, so getting the RAM for $30-35 should mean the 470 wouldn't cost a cent. It's a little bit of work granted, but would be a hell of an upgrade to get essentially for free.

Having just an ssd isnt a problem if you have an external hdd. If all your playing is LOL trust me your build will get the results you want. You just need to change your mobo to something basic since you wont be overclocking. something like the Gigabyte GA-H110M-A Micro ATX LGA1151 Motherboard works fine and should shave a few bucks off your build. You would be better off getting 2x4gb ram instead of 1x8gb. gives a bit of a preformance boost but then again ram is cheap so you could always buy another 8gb stick later (you wont need 16gb of ram for LOL but maybe if you decided to play something else in the future it could be nice). No real need for an optical drive these days but by all means buy it if you feel you need it.

Heres a link to amazon but feel free to shop around

ohh and here is some gameplay of league at max settings 1080p with your cpu gpu combo. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jNnv3aNHqkM
you can even play at 4k but then again those arent cheap.

and enjoy 200fps at max if your monitor can handle it.

Fairly good build. Here are some changes I'd make though:

  • Faster memory for 1p more: Crucial 8GB Kit. Also it has low profile heat spreaders unlike Corsair's Vengeance series (which is great cause it doesn't matter what CPU cooler you end up using).

  • Since you're slightly over-budget check out the 7870 XT. It's basically a gimped 7950 (a 7940 if you would) which performs less than 5% or so slower. You can find one here for £185 or so. It's a pretty fantastic bargain and definitely one of the best value graphics cards on the market.

  • Is there any reason you haven't gone for one of the ~£100 motherboards like the ASRock Extreme4 or the Gigabyte D3H. Are there features on the Asus that you particularly want?

    Otherwise nice build!

I got the code from here: https://github.com/HackerShackOfficial/Smart-Mirror

Total: ~250$

Rough build guide:
Pull the code onto the pi with git.
Follow the instructions in the README to get everything working.
Disassemble the monitor. Be mindful of ESD and don't destroy the display panel. Set aside all the electronics; you'll need them, duh. Once it is free test it. BE SURE to test the panel at most steps to make sure it's not dead or damaged.
Make the frame to the spec of the mirror. Add in support to make sure the panel will lie where you want it to in the mirror.
Do a dry fit to place and route all the electronics.
I used hot glue and masking tape to secure everything down and block out light leak.
Lastly, go into a dark room and test it out. It'll show you where most of your light leak is.

I hope this is helpful for everyone. Sorry if it isn't comprehensive enough.

completely agree with this. a 6700k for gaming / VR will do nothing but eat $100 of your budget. get a 1070 instead for a huge preformance boost and ability to better render future VR titles at a comfortable 90fps.

another great motherboard alternative is the ASUS Z170A

u/CustardFilled · 4 pointsr/buildapc

If you can spare the extra tenner or so, maybe change the CPU to the newer Ivy Bridge 3570k. It's pretty similar, but in with the new and all that.

Equally for £3 more you might as well go with the newer ASRock Z77.

RAM-wise you'd probably be better off going for 1600 MHz - you wouldn't really see that much performance boost for the money with anything higher than 1600MHz.

Unless you're a real audiophile the Sound Card is unnecessary - the onboard sound from the motherboard is usually good enough for most gaming builds.

750W might be slightly overkill for a 680, but if you don't mind spending the money and you want a lot of headroom for upgrades then go for it.

Just a few thoughts - good luck!

Thanks for the reply, I have a pretty large case with loads of room, so size shouldn’t be an issue, and yes I will need DDR4 ram. RAM is super expensive! And I’ve got a GTX 1060 6gb so I’m good there. It looks like I’ll be going for the B450 then awesome. Thank you very much again for the help. Would this work? If you're on a budget check out /r/buildapcsales and /r/gamedeals. I've seen some great deals in both subs.

More specifically, I use the AMD fx-6300 CPU with an ASUS M5A97 R2.0 motherboard. With a good GPU this hardware will serve you well. I've got everything on max settings and I rarely get below 100 fps.

Make sure any case you get has good airflow (check reviews) otherwise shoot for something cheap. Go for an 80+ bronze PSU or better. Nothing sucks more than when your power supply fries and that will happen if it's under powered or cheaply made.

People in this sub may try to convince you otherwise, but I feel that keyboard/mouse and monitor details are not nearly as important as the quality of your PC build. Sacrifice special mice and other peripherals to put more into your PC if possible. I made it to DMG with a $10 keyboard and a Logitech wireless mouse before I got what I have now.

Here's an amazon link for the motherboard I mentioned with a nice cpu/hdd bundle near the bottom.
Good luck!

edit: fx-6300 not 6400

That’s what we bought and he had a case already and I believe a 520Watt PSU

I also gave him my Asus RTX-2060 6gb. Any case or 2060 card will do the trick tho, that stuff is all about the same performance wise.

Works freaking great. I was very impressed with the performance. It ran almost as good as my 2060 did in my i5 9600k in games. I upgraded to a 2080 Super which is the only reason I gave up the 2060. And if I hadn’t got a 49 super ultra wide monitor I could have stuck with the 2060.

On a single screen it worked great

u/letsgoiowa · 3 pointsr/buildapc

At this price you really shouldn't be spending that much on a motherboard. It doesn't impact performance. You could get this and it'd be functionally the same. Well-threaded programs mean they're spread out efficiently over many threads and get along well with stuff like hyperthreading seen in i7s and i3s. The FX 8350, if all 8 threads are properly utilized, can surpass Sandy Bridge i7s and most certainly any i5. It also OCs really well, or so I've heard. If you want sheer performance, you do not need an expensive motherboard at all.
Here's a motherboard for the FX 8350.

That'll save you about $60 and will be much better for your music creation program. Also, the 8350 tends to be a little better at multitasking in my experience. It's also a fantastic gaming CPU.

At this price point, going with micro-ATX is a waste. It's only really for tiny builds and extreme budget builds because that expandability later on is absolutely essential. My micro-ATX board has 2 SATA ports covered by the graphics card, meaning I can't add another hard drive right now.

u/notsaeegavas · 1 pointr/buildapcforme
First off, if you have the funds for a 980ti, do it. If you do go that way, you may be pushing yourself over budget by quite a bit.

As for the motherboard, reviews are always weird... I love this motherboard and once I upgrade to Skylake, I'll be getting one for myself. My friend has one himself and has no problems with it and loves the BIOS and the over all functionality of the entire board. The M.2 port is a plus for it, but that probably wouldn't mean much for you. I've been able to play with my friend's system outside of his chassis and I've loved this motherboard. I'd recommend it.

EDIT: Here is a great option for that 980ti.

Just remember, this will push you over budget.

If you plan on doing any overclocking, there is a good motherboard tier list based on VRM's.

Also if you don't have an older generation Ryzen chip... You will want to check the list of motherboards that supports USB BIOS Flashback. This feature will allow you to flash the bios to the newer Zen 2 supporting bios without needing an older gen Ryzen chip. You may want to cross reference both of the lists.

The B450 Tomahawk is pretty reliable for the price and was just on sale (currently $100 on Amazon). It has decent VRM's, and it also supports the USB BIOS Flashback feature mentioned earlier. I personally just picked one up a few days ago on the last sale and plan to use that for my upcoming Zen 2 PC.

Wishing you luck on your future build!

PS: If you don't have a power supply yet, there is also a good PSU Tier list.

Gonna be honest I haven't used any of these boards, I just looked at boards that fit your build and found some cheap(ish) ones. I ordered the ATX version of the 3rd one recently but I can't vouch for it yet though. Imo you should be good with whatever as long as it fits, but I can't reccomend ASRock boards(personally I'm not a fan), although they might work for you if you want something super basic though.

You also might be able to find better prices on Newegg, idk though.

u/AdversarialPossum42 · 7 pointsr/HomeNetworking

I use the free Veeam Agent for Windows as well and it's awesome. Good pick! 👍

You have a few options here. Depends on how adventurous you're willing to get.

  • Share a drive from one of your PCs. You'll need to keep that PC on during the time the other PCs to do their backup so they can access the drive.
  • If your home router has a USB port then it probably supports sharing an external drive on the network. Check the router's manual for how to set this up.
  • Buy a dedicated a NAS (Network Attached Storage) device, like Synology or QNAP.
  • Build your own NAS using Raspberry Pi or ODROID HC2.

Hey, I'm not the OP, but just wanted to say I went with your build, got everything together this past Friday and am very, very happy. The motherboard was backordered on Amazon so instead I went with: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07FWVJSHC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The only hiccup was the fan on the case panel with the window bumped right into the video card, so I yanked it and relocated to the front of the case.

I haven't built a pc from scratch in 12+ years (been living the MacBook life in grad school), so this was very helpful.

Cheers!

Yo what is this article, it's made a list of the top 5 pre-built gaming PC's and they are all by the same brand, are they just the only competitive pre-built manufacturer?

Anyway, quick amazon US search (amazon isn't even the cheapest place for a lot of these parts) shows that all those parts are worth maybe 460 dollars (plus a case and windows which you can get for free) they also don't list any of the models/brands so I assume that means they are terrible, on the amazon search I get legit brands like EVGA for the PSU. You said you don't have a lot of money so I would definitely just build your own, other people have linked to subreddits that can tell you what components are best for the money for what you're going to be using it for, wouldn't be surprised if you could be playing CS:GO at 300 fps on a 450 dollar computer. When you buy a pre-built you are basically paying the manufacturer an extra 30% for them to build it for you, which is like 150 dollars in this case, for what would take you a couple of hours, idk anyone who's time is worth that much, you also lose the ability to save money by cutting costs in certain areas, you don't need a sick GPU to play CS:GO afaik for example.

u/toxicity959 · 1 pointr/buildapc

Probably the best you can do for gaming at $400:

  • Ryzen 2600X - the best budget gaming CPU on the market right now

  • MSI B450I - a micro ITX board, but has one of the best VRMs of any B450 chipset. (Alternatively: MSI B450 Tomahawk - slightly worse VRMs, but you probably won't notice any difference on a 2600X, and this is a full size ATX board.)

  • 16GB Corsair Vengeance LPX - DDR4 3000MHz, C15. Highly rated, and some of the cheapest RAM around. Not much to look at, but performance wise, the best you'll get for this price.
u/shadfalilacivory · 2 pointsr/buildapc

Well for cpu the ryzen 2600 is the best value cpu out there and gives great 1080p performance.
There are good b450 board like the Tomohawk b450 board which will fit right in that case I believe: https://www.amazon.com/MSI-Crossfire-Motherboard-B450-Tomahawk/dp/B07F7W5KJS

u/akiyoshi · 3 pointsr/buildapc

It would be good to get an AMD FX-6300 and an am3+ board at this price point. This motherboard is too expensive for your build. This board should serve you well for the AMD FX 6300.

Corsair CX500m is still a quality PSU for a little bit cheaper.

Take the savings and put it toward a better graphics card. If you can afford it, a GTX660ti or a 7870ghz would give you very substantial increase in performance over the 650ti. I can´t really speak to prices in Australia, so you´ll have to hunt for it.

Otherwise, good build! Good luck.

GPU - Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1660 Ti 6 GB WINDFORCE OC for $279.99 on Amazon

Total = $758.22

Those things are what I would recommend whole-heartedly, but the Storage and MoBo depends on you:

Storage:

- HP EX900 500 GB for $52.99 on Amazon - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07B2ZVJ5F/?tag=pcpapi-20

- Intel 660p Series 1.02 TB for $94.99 on Amazon - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GCL6BR4/?tag=pcpapi-20

Motherboard

- If no overclock - ASRock B450M/AC (It has WiFi) for $74.99 on Amazon - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07SY8CMTX/?tag=pcpapi-20

- If yes overclock - Asus ROG STRIX B450-F GAMING for $119.99 on Amazon - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FKTZC4M/?tag=pcpapi-20

Cheapest build I'd recommend is $758.22 + $52.99 + $74.99 = $886.20 but you have the option for a bit of extra storage and/or performance if you'd like.

im not in the US nor am i too familiar with z97 boards sorry, maybe just flick through some of the builds on here at a similar price point and see what other people are recommending. the ga-z97-d3h (very similar name) would be a better option if the price is similar. there is no real performance difference between boards but i always like to spend a little more on it to make sure i dont regret not having a certain feature or extra overclock headroom in future

this might be a good choice - not too expensive, great UEFI, better heatsinks, asus' intel boards are generally well regarded. plus that gold circle thing looks cool

u/DeadUncle · 3 pointsr/Gamingcirclejerk

TL;DR: Currently have i3-6100. Looking at i5-6500 and i5-7500. Would like an upgrade recommendation so I can run games like Tarkov and PubG.

I'm very sad to say, I built this rig in late 2016, and I still feel like I don't know what the hell I'm doing. I got by with a lot of help from redditors and Youtube videos so I have no idea what's good and what isn't.

Currently, I have an i3-6100. I skimped on some parts due to being on a budget. In addition to upgrading my RAM by 8GB (Currently have 8GB) I'm hoping to upgrade my CPU. I also have an EVGA GTX 950 in there.

If it matters This is my motherboard

So what I'm looking for is an LGA 1151 slot, right?

Here is the first option

Here is the second option

What confuses me, is the second one is one generation newer than the first one, right? Why are they the same price? I'm also told if I go above a certain gen I'd have to upgrade my BIOS? I'd like to avoid that if possible. I've also read that in reality, an i5 is plenty sufficient for games, and i7 isn't worth the extra money unless you're video editing/rendering, etc. Lastly, the stock cooler that comes with the cpu should suffice, yes? I don't care about overclocking.

I'm looking to smoothly run Tarkov, Hunt Showdown, PubG, things like that. I don't care about 4k or 1440p or anything really. Ideally I'd like to at least keep it to 60fps though. Smooth gameplay is primarily what I'm after.

I'm also open to AMD and such if there's a comparable option that's more cost-effective, the intel i-series was just a bit easier for me to tell the difference between the different tiers (3, 5, 7)

I know it's a bit verbose, so thank you for reading.

u/i_dont_seed · 1 pointr/buildapc

Get Windows 8. It's way faster and the learning curve is not too bad at all.

Intel 4690 i5 + Asus H97 if you're not gonna overclock.

Intel 4690k i5 + Asus z97-A if you're gonna overclock.

Of course, the mobo's are entirely up to you, depending on what features you want, but those are pretty popular ones.

As for the HDD, I'd really recommend taking advantage of the low SSD prices and getting a cheap 120 GB Samsung 840 EVO and pairing that with the existing hard drive you have. Installing Windows 8 on this SSD should give you a noticeable performance boost. Then again, the SSD is up to you.

Wow...thanks no words I can think of so instead I'll throw in some advice from your thread about your SLI issues a few days back.

I'm gonna assume you got two HD 7950's since you don't specify in your thread. As you can see if you follow the link each card pushes as much pixels as a GTX 660ti which is 27% more powerful than the [GTX 750ti] (http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu.php?gpu=GeForce+GTX+750+Ti).

As such your going to get much more bang for your dollar buying a new Motherboard over GPU's and as such I agree with the guy who commented on your post. His choice of motherboard was also outstanding, Asus are quickly becoming my new favorites for motherboards and the model he choose has fantastic value/feature ratio for the Asus Z97-A.

For 140 dollars it will give you much more performance and upgrade room that buying a single GPU powerful enough to compete with SLI.

u/Something_Berserker · 1 pointr/buildapc

Why does ChooseMyPC from the sidebar recommend the Gigabyte GA-H110M-A Micro ATX LGA1151 MOBO all the way up to a $2,100 build? Is the mother board really so irrelevant that its worth it to put a $50 MOBO in a $1000+ computer?

I am trying to figure out my first build for a photo/video editing powerful enough for some casual gaming as well. I just want to make sure I have enough space to plug in extra stuff like an internal card reader, plenty of USBs etc.

Thanks!

Edit: my budget is about $1000

Popular? Has anyone ever heard of them? For reference: they say they are used in 20K households in 89 countries (that is about 225 households per country). Good luck finding someone using this device even on a forum to ask for help or able to professionally set it up or service it.

When I search on Amazon I see a bunch of over-priced low-power controllers, IP cams and etc. in cheap-looking cases. Literally you can get a Raspberry Pi 3 or 4 with a decent case (or a kit) for a fraction of the price. What's the point of buying this over a Raspberry Pi?

u/david_hofland · 0 pointsr/buildapcsales

Ryzen 5 3600 + Asrock b450 steel legend is a good combo. It also has a micro atx version if you’d like smaller form factor.
You can save a bit extra by going with asrock b450m pro4 although there is a chance that it won’t be compatible with 3rd gen ryzen out of the box (look for the sticker). In that case you can email amd and they’ll lend you an upgrade kit for free.
If you can spare an extra $10-20 MSI b450 tomahawk max is a very good board and well worth it IMO. No smaller form factor tho.

It doesn’t quite take up all of your budget but if you want something a bit better you can toss in a 2060 to that build.

u/shaggysweater · 1 pointr/gpumining

I mean you have to shop around and see what kind of deal you can get on the different parts. Newegg has deals all the time, amazon may have a cheaper price as well. For instance this board was on sale for $35 a few weeks ago and can support 3 gpus. You would need gpu risers if you have more than one gpu on the board.

Google search around for hashrates of the differ gpus. I know the gtx 1070 are currently one of the best to mine with. The radeon rx 580 are also good as well. The gtx 1060, 1070 and 1080 or the amd rx 470, rx 480, rx 570 or rx 580 are good to mine with. The hardest part is finding them in stock.

u/Eternal_Ohm · 4 pointsr/buildapc

Depends what you need. Just need something reliable with good cooling for the VRM's? Then the B450 Tomahawk MAX is a pretty good option. However if you need Wi-Fi the B450 Gaming Pro Carbon AC is pretty good as well especially since it's on sale right now because of Flack Friday again it depends on what you need from the motherboard.

Sometimes you can get a non standard board in an SFF, other times you can get a nice gem in the rough. The Dell Inspiron 660s comes to mind as an SFF type computer with lots of potential. I've done swaps on HP Media Center PC's as well. Gimme a better idea of what you have and let's weigh some options. If you'd like suggestions for a completely new system that won't break the bank, here's this one:

Raspberry Pi is a small computer on a single board. It’s small and therefore useful for creating monitoring systems, etc.

Element14 Raspberry Pi 3 B+ Motherboard https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07BDR5PDW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_4wMzCb4JP39VZ

I’d actually recommend getting one of the kitd though that includes power adaptor, protective case, etc. It’s very easy to put together.

Tilt then has an image which you can download and burn to a SanDisk memory card. Plug that into the SD card slot in the Pi, power it on, and you’re ready to go.

The Pi acts like a little web server which you can access with your browser. A dashboard will load up, and any nearby Tilt Hydrometers will be listed.

You can also set it up to sync readings with sites like brewersfriend.com

SolidWorks, correct me if I'm wrong, is fairly CPU heavy I believe, so you'll want a powerful CPU -- the i7-6700K is the best in the enthusiast grade stuff. [This build combines it with an R9 380 graphics card, and a high-quality PSU] (https://www.theaipc.com/result/c1468166669266). I'd modify the build slightly -- swap out the ASUS motherboard for the cheaper Micro ATX gigabyte board https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0165YUDTM, which will fit with the case.

Then, if you want more disk space, that gives you room to upgrade to the 480GB SSD if you wish. Windows is $85 on Amazon currently, so this build would put you around $1025. A solid build that will edit very well and handle most games on medium to high at 1080p. If you want more gaming pop, consider the RX 480 when it's back in stock.

You can build a pretty decent rig with $1200... But it depends on what type of work you'd need to be doing on your laptop.

If you just need something for word processing, get the Asus X205TA or HP Stream 11, and then build a rig with:

I am currently picking parts for my new Build....and this monitor for the price looks like a good deal..any other feedback for anyone that has bought it out there...

I was wondering is this monitors have some sort of firmware update or if that is even a thing for monitors (sorry i have been using gaming laptops for the last 7 years).

I am looking to pair it with this:

I would say that your best bet would be to take the gamble on the MSI B450 Tomahawk -- or, if you can wait until it is released, the MSI B450 Tomahawk MAX. The reason I am suggesting this board in particular is that it has good VRM, which will be good for overclocking, though at the 3600-tier, it probably won't matter, but most importantly, it features BIOS flashback, which means you will not need a Ryzen 1000 or 2000-series CPU to update the BIOS to accept a Ryzen 3000-series.

Yes, that means you will lose out on the pretty GUI BIOS, but in the end, it should just work. That's what is important, right?

Honestly? Save your money.

A basic board by a good manufacturer will run these sub-100w TDP chips just fine, even mildly overclocked.
The B450-DS3H is $70, and is warrantied just as long as those more expensive boards.
https://www.amazon.com/GIGABYTE-B450M-DS3H-Ryzen-Motherboard/dp/B07FWVJSHC/ref=sr_1_6?crid=2R7ZVZ5P5F0B5&keywords=b450+motherboard&qid=1566689550&s=electronics&sprefix=b450+%2Celectronics%2C137&sr=1-6

Those higher end boards show their merit mainly in power delivery/stability in extreme overclocking the thirstiest chips like the 3950X.

I do have a few notes -

CPU Cooler - If you are going to overclock the 6700k you might want a better cooling method This is a pretty popular one- https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835181103&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-PCPartPicker,%20LLC-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=

Motherboard - Expensive motherboards simply aren't worth it for non-enthusiast level CPUs, This should cut off about 50 dollars without making too large of an impact - https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-Z170-A-ATX-DDR4-Motherboards/dp/B012NH05UW/ref=sr_1_2?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1485398779&sr=1-2&keywords=z170+motherboard

Storage - At just under 2k, no SSD feels like a wrongdoing to this system. At least get a cheaper smaller one to boot up on and use a HDD for simple storage.

Power Supply - I'd go more, this is double the price, BUT, a good PSU can last you a while. I'd go for more voltage regardless for overclocking - https://pcpartpicker.com/product/g63RsY/evga-power-supply-120g10650xr

Any revisions on my revision would be great.

That's actually amazing. I assume AM4 motherboards will support the upcoming new Ryzen CPUs too right? I didn't want want Ryzen initially because of single core performance but it looks like multi core wise it's as good as it's gonna get. I think I can even shave off a few dollars with the motherboard, this one for example, only $80 and I have Prime so I get free shipping.

If you're a student in high school or college, see if your school or college department has a Microsoft Imagine subscription, which could get you your windows license for free. That'll save a lot.

The K55 isn't mechanical, just a heads up. It's not half bad as a membrane keyboard though If you want mechanical with white backlighting, the Logitech G610 has sold on amazon for $60 a few times and uses Cherry MX Reds. There's also the Gigabyte Force K83, which lacks dedicated media and volume keys and backlighting, but is a steal at $40 (an LED desk lamp can kinda solve the lack of a backlight. I use the Logitech in my home office and the Gigabyte Force at work.

Gigabyte Force K83: https://www.amazon.com/Gigabyte-Mechanical-GK-FORCE-K83-RED/dp/B01BMJ0Y4O/

You can get the SuperNOVA 650 G3 for $10 less:
https://www.amazon.com/EVGA-SuperNOVA-Modular-Warranty-220-G3-0650-Y1/dp/B01LYGFRL6/

Otherwise, the only other thing I could think of is getting a Micro ATX board (shorter and usually 3-4 PCIe slots as opposed to ~7, most people don't use more than 3) to get the price to around $90. The ASRock AB350 Pro4 is around $90, despite being an ATX board:

https://www.amazon.com/ASRock-AB350-PRO4-ATX-Motherboard/dp/B06WWF165R/

NewEgg has it in stock at the same price with a guarantee that it's Ryzen 2000 ready.

Whatever you choose, I hope you enjoy it.

For Mobo, I love the gaming pro carbon, very very nice especially if you want WiFi capability (it's pretty fast for a stock card), otherwise, I'd check out a b450 tomahawk:

Youre going to have a hard time getting 144 fps at 1080p with a 1070, I'd go with at least an rtx 2060 or GTX 1070ti for those extra frames...

Understandable. Right now AMD has a much better line of cpus in terms of price to performance. Which is why he asked. I would go with a Ryzen platform over Intel atm. You'll save a lot of money, and you'll get much more for it at the mid range and high end skus. You can't go wrong with a ryzen 5 2600 or 3600. Some good boards to look at would be the Asrock B450m Pro4, the MSI B450 Tamahawk, or the Gigabyte B450 Aorus. Any of those are good choices and have plenty of features you'd probably want.

u/RedStonedPanda · 2 pointsr/buildmeapc

Amd Ryzens are pretty nice at the moment and cheap. Ryzen 1600 is a good choice. I recommend a SSD disk and a second one HDD so you have a faster system and also an storage disk. Graphic card will be the hardest. Maybe a cheap 1050 2 gb will do.

The total is around 700. You may need to add some more things put this is enough for full functionallity. Also, I wouldnt buy the parts on amazon, but this way you can search them in a good electronics shop from your country which adds the assembly. Standards can be changed easily, that depends on what you preffer.

I was doing pretty good until I got to the damn WD hard drives. I suspect I paid way too much for how good they are. Probably could have saved some money by making an enclosure and using real hard drives or something

u/BandidTwitch · 1 pointr/buildapc

If you want the current hardware you've selected now, what I would do if i wanted to save some money is get a msi b450 tomohawk it doesn't have Asus aura but does have msi mystic light for rgb control. You could also go with an air cooler like Noctua NH-D15 and a cheaper case like the Nzxt H500 but other then that I don't seem much else to save you money on.

u/RC-32012 · 1 pointr/buildmeapc

Thank you for your list, I will definitely be getting a better video card. One other question, would you recommend this (https://www.amazon.com/MSI-Crossfire-Motherboard-B450-Tomahawk/dp/B07F7W5KJS/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1549515648&sr=8-3&keywords=ASRock+-+B450+Pro4+ATX+AM4+Motherboard) motherboard instead of the ASRock B450? It seems to have better reviews on Amazon.

u/A_Str8 · 1 pointr/virtualreality

I think the cooler is overkill unless you plan to get into serious overclocking. The 2700x comes with a decent cooler.

You can get a good x470 motherboard for half of what you're planning to pay. I'm very happy with this one: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07CF31C1Q/ If you do go with the more expensive one, just make sure whatever extra features it has are worth the cost

I'm running a Ryzen 2700x with an RTX2070, and I'm finding it to be a great combo for VR and flat games

> What should someone on a budget buy: a weak CPU with a board twice the price, or a good CPU on a cheap board?

"Board twice the price" of what? The CPU? The cheapest B450 board on Amazon right now costs $70 while the cheapest B350 board costs just $50 (which BTW is the same as the cheapest A320 board). None of these boards are anywhere close to costing a $110. If the 200GE was unlocked and someone wanted to build a super budget PC and overclock it they would more than likely go for the cheapest B-series board.

> I am very familiar with buying hardware on a short budget, since i have been building my own computers since i was 15, with money i could make doing freelance programming. Being able to have good hardware is a nice change.

I can relate to that. It's so liberating to not be so constrained by the limitations of the hardware inside a PC.

u/labatomi · 1 pointr/Amd

Yea my score seems about right compared to yours, I did try it when overclocked this is the results I got so definitely seems about right.

I rather keep the settings in the benchmark on max since that's what most people use to run it and it's easier to compare, specially for situations like this.

I never thought of turning it off since I've never gotten any errors or anything. But I'll do and try again, I'm pretty savvy so I know how to do it. My board is an AZROCK Z77 I got it so that I can OC my CPU but I haven't even gotten around to that yet since I haven't bothered to buy a closed loop cooler.

But thanks a lot for the info and the help man!

u/almarcTheSun · 1 pointr/buildapcsales

I'm looking for a good ATX motherboard deal. Stopped at this one for now. There's a catch though - I'm using a forwarding service to deliver it basically to the opposite point of the globe, so I want to know that the QA is decent and I won't get it dead on arrival, or otherwise I'd go with Asrock. Are there any better ones in a similar price range/good deals on semi-decent boards?

Edit: For anyone curious, this one appears to be far superior as for a similar price it supports Ryzen 3rd gen (3600 for instance) out of the box.

u/OneViolentFemme · 2 pointsr/buildapc

Super excited for my first build but I think I made a mistake. I recently purchased this ram (G.SKill TridentZ non AMD) for my Ryzen 2700x build with this motherboard (MSI X470 Gaming Plus). I didn't realize the RAM was optimized for Intel until just now (Darn holiday sales). Should I return the RAM and purchase the one optimized for AMD or will this be alright?

u/yee245 · 2 pointsr/buildapc

I would say it depends on what your budget is.

If you want to jump platforms, you might be looking at replacing the RAM in addition to getting a new CPU and motherboard. Ryzen favors faster RAM, so your 2400MHz RAM won't be giving your as much performance as you might otherwise get with faster RAM.

The motherboard you have linked there only has an A320 chipset, so you won't be able to overclock a Ryzen chip to maximize your performance. If you're set on that particular look, I would look at this one instead. That said, I would also look at other alternatives, since both of those boards only have 2 RAM slots, so if you ever want to upgrade beyond 8GB, you're going to have to replace the RAM, and if you're going to get into video editing, you'll likely want to upgrade to 16GB (or more) eventually (though I guess it's an "issue" you have with your current board as well). In any case, if going with Ryzen, I would look for a board with a B350 chipset.

The simplest upgrade solution would be for you to just stick with the system you have and upgrade the processor to either a Skylake or Kaby Lake i5 or i7, depending on your budget. It would just be a matter of swapping the CPU and possibly getting a better heatsink for it, depending on the model. If it helps, you should probably be able to sell your old G4560 for as much as you paid, offsetting some of the cost of upgrading. With the upcoming announcement of Intel's new Coffee Lake processors, you might see some slightly cheaper used i7s come up in the used market (if you're willing to buy used), potentially for relatively cheap. While you won't be able to overclock any of the unlocked Intel chips with your current board, they should still perform fairly well stock.

In either case, I would recommend waiting until next week to see what Intel is going to announce and go from there.

u/Will0saurus · 1 pointr/buildapc

Best GPU in that price range is probably the rx 460. It'll run all those games easily at med/high settings 60 fps. However you should really get a new motherboard and CPU because I imagine a 10 year old CPU will bottleneck any current card hard, even a low end one.

It would cost about $160 but a core i3 and motherboard like this would run great.

u/puckbeaverton · 3 pointsr/AskMen

lol @ XBone. Sounds like the name of a villain in a 90s action movie.

Here's the deal. You can go the console route, and that's fine. But you're going to spend a lot more money in the long run.

You buy a PS4, an xbox one, a switch, whatever. Call it $400. OK. Cool. You buy games for it. $40, $30, $50. Sweet. Controllers. $50 $50 $50... Shit it's getting expensive. New games come out. Why the fuck are they $60 a piece? Holy shit. You wait a while. Jesus they only went down to $55? FFFFFFUUUUUU I wanna playyyyyyy.... Why aren't there more games and cheaper games? Granted, you do have the nice option to buy classic games on PSN and for Switch. Ugh.....fine, I'll shell out for Overwatch. Fine. I'll shell out for Destiny 2. Fuuuuck that was like $120. What....what the fuck is this? PS5? Nintendo Switch2?

ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?

BUT. Let me play out that scenario for you on a PC.

Total cost: $570 US, or roughly what you'd spend on your console and a few controllers.

BUT, now you have the entire library of all the computer games ever made at your disposal. Not to mention that, but you've got emulators to play all those classics that you could have bought on the PSN/Switch.

And instead of paying $60 every time a new game comes out, you look at what came out about 6 months ago. You put it on your steam wishlist. You get an email someday soon that says "an item on your wishlist is on sale."

Oh holy shit. Doom is $16. Holy fuck, it's the steam summer sale. Games are 75% off, 80% off....they're basically giving them away.

Then you sign up for Humble Bundle.

Holy shit. You can get Alien Isolation for $5.

These are 5 star games we're talking here. Not to mention you get like 10 no names to go with it. Hell, you're probably going to spend hours playing some of those.

Pretty soon you've got 100+ games that you may have spent a few hundred dollars on. Things are great, but you decide hey, I would LIKE to have a little more FPS on these. So you order yourself a new GT 1080, and sell your 1050 on ebay making back about $50. Later on down the line you decide to upgrade the processory, maybe add a stick of ram later. Now you got a stew goin. But you don't have to, that rig will play almost anything (though possibly on lower visual settings)

PC is just more budget friendly in my opinion. You never have to just throw the whole thing away and get a new one. You can always replace components and upgrade things individually. There's never new platforms to learn, get used to. You can always use your same old controller, and you can always play your old games. In my view, buying consoles is basically throwing away money because you have to buy so much hardware EVERY TIME they decide to release a new console.

There's give and take to it. I just like the stability and deep discounts I get from Steam, GOG, and Humble Bundle. I wouldn't even game if it wasn't this cheap.

The 3400G has no point in favour(except the useless in that case integrated gpu)compared to the old 2600/2600X and costs very little less.

Get a windows 10 pro OEM key and use the money saved to get a better hardware.

For the ram go with the 3200Mhz, the price is not so different from the 3000mhz and in the ryzen 2xxx the frequency of the ram is never enough. This one go without any problem at 3200mhz in all the 4 dimm slot(in many MB it slow down when you use all of them).

So what I have right now is :

i5-3470, 16gb ddr3, h67 board, and I am looking to upgrade, up to lets say 450-500$, CPU+MB+RAM.

PSU is Seasonic M12II 620W Bronze +80.

has to be Amazon/Newegg or something that ships outside of US.

Thought about Ryzen 3600 (3600X if the 200$ Amazon deal comes back)

3000/3200Mhz RAM - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0134EW7G8/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_2?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1

or: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07MNJP6RW/ref=ox_sc_act_title_6?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1

and MB:

B450 Tomahawk MAX - 115$ https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07WF6ZQST/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1

Now 2 questions:

  1. Which RAM is worth it more?
  2. Is the motherboard a good choice, or is 'too much', and if so, would a mATX be also good and what will be the difference?
  3. Also, is the difference between the 3600 and 3600X noticable, and is the difference in the cooler (Stealth vs Spire) significant?

    Thank you guys!

It's overclockable and also come with a better cooler than intel (Although probably not good enough for overclocking but atleast you've got that option)
It's also a better upgrade path than the intel 1151 , AMD has said that they're using the AM4 platform until atleast 2020 meanwhile intel is coming with a new platform pretty soon

It's a little more powerful than you might need, but I have an i7-6700 (non-"k") Skylake processor for $240 shipped to you.

You could pair it with a Gigabye H110M for ~$60. I'm sure you can get this or a B150M used for cheaper via this subreddit.

Mobo found here: https://www.amazon.com/ROG-B350-F-GAMING-DisplayPort-Motherboard/dp/B071SGQP1Q

Let's talk about the tweaks:

R5 1600 is the best bang-for-buck CPU for gaming right, and at 4K you probably wouldn't notice the difference between it and an old i5 to be honest. Your GPU is getting punched a ton harder in that workload.

CAS 14 RAM has a much better chance of hitting 3200MHz than the CAS16 stuff and worth the price bump.

You don't need a NVME SSD for gaming. Swapped to a SATA M.2 SSD and put the savings towards some mass storage.

Don't skimp on the PSU. CXM is a stellar budget option, but if you're willing to spend a bit more a EVGA G2 or Corsair TXM/RMx will last a decade.

Suggestion: Reach for the 1080Ti - 4K is hella demanding and without a GSync panel you'll want to hit your panel's refresh rate as much as possible to avoid tearing. Alternatively, look into a 4K Gsync panel (which would be a good investment).

http://www.amazon.com/Gigabyte-DDR3-Micro-Motherboard-GA-78LMT-USB3/dp/B009FC3YJ8

$50 instead of 56. I have it in one of my machines and it's ridiculously durable, still works after I managed to flex the actual board about 3/4ths of an inch while trying to remove it from the case.

The only thing is lacks however is SATA 3, but seeing as you don't have an SSD in the plans that won't be a problem. Even if you do decide to upgrade to an SSD later, SATA 2 is still just fine for an SSD.

Don't let anyone deter you from getting the FX6300, an i5 is going to be at least 75% more expensive just for differences that you won't even notice in real world gaming. It's definitely good enough for high-ultra settings for any games in the next couple of years.

Yeah, we only have the microATX mid-tower case. Think we're going to go with this board, it's got pretty good reviews: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B009FC3YJ8/?tag=pcpapi-20

Thanks for all your help. If switching out this mobo doesn't work, do you think that means the CPU is faulty? I can't say I've ever heard of a DOA CPU.

Edit: Also, wanted to say that the 750m has a downward facing fan, so we should be good on that front..

yes, micro atx will fit in atx. microatx is just a bit smaller, so some people prefer that more. also, don't you have to buy the whole combo if you want the discounted price?

anyway, moving onto the cpu. http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i3-6100-vs-AMD-FX-6300/3511vs1555 shows that the i3 6100 performs better. i'm not really sure which site to trust, though. that's up to you to decide.

Regarding RAM, amd is a little more sensitive to speed. You can read all about it, but basically you should buy some ram that's advertised as 3200MHz and easily OCs to 3600MHz since that's the sweet spot for total system performance leverage. Let me just say that League is a really easy game to run at max settings.

You should be able to achieve this with an AMD processor and appropriate mobo.

Finish this with an R9 270X and you're saving a handful of cash.

Maybe the parts are slightly dated but it is something to consider if you want to save a bit.

This should do it for League at 1920 x 1080 resolution and 60fps.

If you would like to stick to what you already have, maybe start with only one stick of ram (8GB should be plenty) and get a similar tier GPU as mentioned above.

u/davemerlinthefrick · 1 pointr/PCBuilds

I'd recommend maybe a gtx 1060 if you're sticking to 1080x1920 monitors, and spend maybe a little more on a better motherboard, for better cooling and overclocking performance, and also better esthetics, maybe this:

This is what I'm looking at. https://www.amazon.com/ASRock-MicroATX-Motherboard-B450M-PRO4/dp/B07FVYKFXF

The Asrock has questions and reviews that say they needed to update. Newer reviews indicate that they didn't need to update. And the box in the photo says 3000 series ready. I'm assuming that they initially weren't but that they've since made sure that they are updated. Otherwise is this a decent board? I know nothing about mobos. I have an Asrock mobo now and it's been great for my needs

u/Cr4bmann · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

I have not heard of Asrock before so I was unsure of its quality and there is only one review on Newegg saying that the customer couldn't load their OS and without any other reviews it makes me question the reliability of Asrock. I'll probably search for another motherboard just in case I find something cheaper with reviews.

About the SSD, I got a response on a post I made of my build and a guy was talking about how having your OS on your SSD will greatly improve your experience and I realize that my laptop boots windows from the SSD and I still think that it's slow, I am a very impatient person when it comes to computer loading. So I am willing to put a bit more money in for an SSD.

Once again, thanks a ton for all of your help. I hope you had a good sleep.

edit: Can that motherboard hold two sticks of RAM? I think it can but I'm not sure.

I don't think there is going to be much around that price point, but if your able to spend around 20$ more, I would recommend the B450M-DS3H board from Gigabyte. It has good ram expansion (4 slots, 64 GB max), an M.2 slot, and 8 USB slots for the IO. Given it's price, it's worth looking into.

Are these worth the money? I have a Samsung 850 EVO right now but saw that these 960 EVOs fit into the DDR slots on your motherboard and read 4-5x faster. Are they worth the upgrade? Do I need a mount or are they plug and play? Will they work with my ASUS Z170-A?

So I just bought a new motherboard, the Gigabyte AM3+ A-78LMT-USB3, and was curious of the higher end processors and video cards I could add and have it be compatible. Or just recommendations of nice ones that are cheap ish. Any help is appreciated.

u/introllz · 2 pointsr/buildapc

The Extreme4 is around 20£ cheaper than the Asus Z68 mobo! If it's possible for you to cancel the order on the Z68 and get the Extreme4, it would be great and you'll be in line with the latest gen of tech.

I am not sure about Amazon's credit card charging policies mate. Sorry! It might be possible to check your available credit amount through your bank. Login to their website and you should see an option to check your credit!

So updating the BIOS isn't complicated, but it can be risky, particularly if your system is randomly shutting down. If it shuts down during the update procedure, it can brick the board. I don't see that motherboard having any kind of backup or dualBIOS setup so the only way to fix would be purchasing separate equipment to re-flash.

If you do decide to update the BIOS, I'd let it sit in the BIOS first for about 30 minutes to see if it shuts down randomly during that time or not. If not, I'd shut the system down for about an hour, boot it up, enter the BIOS and immediately flash. Just in case it is an issue with something else, heatwise, that should be quick enough to not cause any blips while updating.

Picture of the mosfets is correct. Again, I don't know if thats the issue for sure or not, just that it is something cheap to try and see.

As far as new motherboards, I haven't been keeping up with AM3/3+ stuff at all since I updated my system last year. Without knowing an exact budget, something similar to this would be good: https://www.amazon.com/Gigabyte-DDR3-Micro-Motherboard-GA-78LMT-USB3/dp/B009FC3YJ8/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1519771141&sr=1-1&keywords=am3%2B+motherboard+matx

Doesn't have to be that board but I see people OCing FX8350s on the and they don't say anything about random crashing.

And just something else to check too: that the fan on the power supply is functioning correctly. Power supplies can overheat as well but there's no monitoring for it so it is just something you have to manually inspect. Firstly that the fan works when the system is on. Otherwise, while the system is off and unplugged, you can usually get a tiny screwdriver or such and try to manually spin the fan. It should spin freely with no resistance. We've had a few of our office systems with bad heatsink fans over the past few years causing crashes and random shutdowns.

This would probably fit your build pretty well. You could find cheaper but this gives you a great set of features for the price

Alright so the B450 Gaming Pro is what I need, but I just saw the price and it is too much. https://www.amazon.ae/gp/product/B07F85YKLJ/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?smid=A2QUTRSO1ZHRN9&th=1

It is 350 USD. While the B450 tomahawk is half of that.

Yeah I already changed it to the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO.

So the motherboard can only handle 4 case fan connectors. So if I want more, I need to get a splitter? I don't understand. So I should only get the maximum 4 fans total for the whole case?

I also want to add that I want to OC my GPU and CPU later on.

That's a pretty nice build, but you could go for an RX 480 or a GTX 1060 when the price drops a bit.

You could save a bit of cash by going with this motherboard instead.

Other than that, really solid build!

Ah I thought it took up a PCI-e slot so I was also looking into this card since it has 2. Didn't realize M2 had their own slot. The MSI Tomahawk does have better reviews overall though so maybe I should stick with that one?

My last card was a sapphire and I've been pretty happy with it, so I might go with your suggestion for the GPU.

I’d save a bit of money and go with a b450 board unless you absolutely need the pcie 4.0. this MSI tomahawk is good or this Gaming pro Carbon if you want wifi built in. The other things I’d swap is your ssd for an intel 660p. It’s cheaper and faster.

As for a cooler, with the black theme you’ve got going a dark rock pro 4 would look pretty sweet in there, just check compatibility with your memory for clearance.

You forgot to include a case unless you already have one.

I personally prefer regular ATX sized motherboards if my budget allows and for $5 more it seems better as well

Also, Ryzen is HEAVILLY in favor of higher speed RAM. Go for 3000MHz if you can.

I also recommend an SSD but if you want to prioritize space first then go for it :)

So that is the high end Ryzen CPU. With that Mobo you can over clock and the liquid CPU cooler will keep it all cool. The ram is high clock so you get the best out of Ryzen.

Storage will work fine, but id get an addition edit drive fo rcurrent projects. Editing off a ssd is better than a hdd. You can always add this later.

Case is fine.

Yes, it has been a great help. After looking around this motherboard seems to tick the most boxes with PCIE 4.0 for my SSDs and an upgraded ethernet port. The only downside from this and the next closest x570 that I can find (which is the ASUS Prime posted below) is a reduced number of gen-2 UBS ports. But, the ASUS board has a reported problem with the placement of a cooling fan that makes you unable to place larger graphics cards in the reinforced PCI slot. I think I will look for some cheaper ram, though. Any DDR-3600 should work, right?

What would be the main downside to going to something like an MSI Tomahawk B450? It seems to list almost all of the same features as these x570 boards.

You could get a raspberry pi 3+ and a 1 - 2TB 2.5 inch hard drive with a hard drive dock that powers via USB.

If the devices in the household will direct play the files, then the raspberry pi will simply serve as a basic NAS and the 1-2TB hard drive should spin up powered from the dock.

For instance:

Raspberry Pi 3+: £32.47 / $42.46

Memory Card for RPi3: £5.84 / $7.64

USB Enclosure for HDD: £7.65 / $10.00

2TB Toshiba 2.5" Drive: £48.19 / $63.03

You'd be looking at £94.15 / $123.11 (i know it will cost different in USA but simply using exchange rate conversion).

It would also take up less space than a single DVD and would possibly hold 71 REMUX 1080p movies. However, you could go for lower quality "1080p" versions and get alot more on there.

I have some spare RPi3's and the above to test this on your behalf :)

Edit: However if you arnt too bothered about size, then buying a second hand PC would be significantly better but the above purely factors in the smallest possible form factor!

You can refer to this list in regards to motherboard cooling (of the VRM components). The 2700x boosts by default to a point that OC is not necessary, and OC can be detrimental to performance on the X tier CPUs. However, it can increase performance when done correctly. If that's your goal, then the Tomahawk is a good option. Either way, depending on the case, airflow, and dust cleaning schedule, it will help with the extra heat.

In case you TL;DR:

AMD is better bang for your buck. Intel is better for cutting-edge. Cutting edge is only relevant to $1500 procs, therefore anything Intel makes that's below AMDs top processor at the time, is basically overpriced.

Basically, the main differences between AMD and Intel are as follows:

AMD:

Cheaper than Intel in basically every facet
Uses 1 physical core per thread (irrelevant unless you're getting a very expensive CPU)

Intel:

Hey. I recommend going on a third party website to buy Windows 10. As for the video card, you can either cheap out and go for a lower graphics card like the RX 580 8GB or RX VEGA 64. As for the motherboard, I recommend picking up this motherboard: https://www.amazon.com/MSI-Gaming-B350-Motherboard-TOMAHAWK/dp/B06WVFFXXL/ref=sr_1_11?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1550390379&sr=1-11&keywords=am4+motherboard (If you don't mind the red LEDs)

Otherwise, you could buy https://www.amazon.com/Ryzen-Gaming-Motherboard-Prime-B450-Plus/dp/B07FKT5CTH/ref=sr_1_2?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1550390368&sr=1-2&keywords=b450+motherboard this one for a tad more expensive.

You can also replace the SSD with a 120GB SSD and buying a 1TB HDD. It might be more expensive, but it will be more reliable.

Ultimately, I highly recommend you go for a cheaper GPU.

Alright, so I ordered more or less along the lines of what you picked out, but made a couple changes.

As I said before, I got the video card from eBay and it should arrive tomorrow. The rest I ordered from Amazon today. I got an ASUS Z97-A since the H97 chipset apparently doesn't allow overclocking, and that CPU was born to be overclocked. I also got an 8GB kit of Crucial Ballistix RAM instead of the Ripjaws. And finally, I ordered an EVGA 500W Power Supply instead of the Corsair because the Corsair would take a few weeks shipping from Amazon.

It did bump up my expenses a bit, but I figure that I compensated by getting the video card pretty cheap.

A plastic case, fan, power supply and other stuff ... $17.

(I'm not advocating that you shop at Amazon, just some pretty pictures to show. Everyone has Raspberry Pis for sale ... shop around.)

A computer like this would replace any computer you're misapplying as a media server at the moment, and it has an HMDI plug that (unlike many such things) actually works, delivering 1920x1080 picture and sound.

For me this whole Raspberry Pi thing is completely astonishing. My first computer was an Apple II and it did almost nothing, slowly. A modern pencil sharpener has more raw processing power than my first computer. It was $1600 in 1977 dollars, much more in modern currency. And a computer like the Pi for $40 ... I'm astonished.

The AMD FX6300 is a pretty strong processor for the price it's sold at. If you're looking for a decent priced mother board then I've seen recommendations for the ASUS M5A97 http://www.amazon.com/ASUS-M5A97-R2-0-SATA-Motherboard/dp/B008V9959O

When buying the motherboard, look out for what socket type it has and make sure it's the same as the AMD FX's required socket. (if you do decide to buy that processor).

I would suggest either the Asus Prime x470 Pro or the Asus ROG Strix B450-f. If you want to stretch a tad more then go for the Asus ROG Strix X470-f. As you can tell I like Asus. In my opinion they have better bios options and OC support.

Thank you so much for all of your help! I think I will go with the 2600X. I do have one more question and it is about the motherboard you suggested. Is this one any better compared to that one also will it even work with the 2600X: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07CF31C1Q/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_3?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&th=1

I never used one before the past few weeks either, and I'm never looking back. The buttons feel great, the Pi responds immediately...my only complaint is that the 1 and 2 shoulder buttons on both sides are a little too close, but that's negligible, you get used to it quick.

Here are my RetroPie details:

Amazon Warehouse Deal with 20% off makes this around $53 I think. Not sure how well it would do for an overclocked 2600, but it's not garbo tier in VRM's according to the image below

But you can probably find a better used one like an asrock b450m pro4 from someone else if they're selling one. Just wanted to give you options!

Hows this moba? It would save me some cash to allocate elsewhere if it's decent enough? Idk if a moba is something to skimp on? I appreciate your help. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0165YUDTM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_XZUpzbCZC2BX0

Depends. How much are you looking to spend on one? if you are looking for something under $120 I can say this is pretty good. [I have heard many good things and have seen it used a lot.] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07F7W5KJS/) Has good overclocking capabilities and still has the m.2 slot.

CPU: Ryzen 5 3600

u/TJ-Wizard · 2 pointsr/buildapc

Price seems high for cpu / motherboard.

I’m from the U.K. but just quickly scanning amazon.com you could get a 2600 and b450 motherboard for around the same price. With this board you can OC and the 2600 is far far better than the 1200.

Lastly what psu are you using, like what brand is it?

I imagine you’re talking about this? tomahawk

Is it necessary? I do like how it looks compared to the more expensive version I have picked out. Not to mention saves $10 but it is much more expensive than the first one I have picked. Is it necessary and worth the original purchase or is it something I could wait on and maybe upgrade later

Edit: it’s only $25 more so that’s not bad but then another $50 for the 1tb so it’s a $75 upgrade

Also, I'm not sure if you prefer MSI or not. But Gigabyte has a 450M board for around $70. Figured you can use that to save money or get something better. Maybe get a better GPU or a 3600x.

MSI Pro Carbon Out of stock right now on Amazon but pretty sure other places will have it

This Asus Z170-A Motherboard is good for overclocking. I bought it at 140$, but due to a recent hike in demand, the price has gone up. At the moment it is still under 160$ while providing SLI support and would provide you a good overclock.

I've been looking to upgrade my motherboard and these are the three I have been looking at.

ROG Strix B450-F Gaming Motherboard

TUF B450-Plus Gaming Motherboard

B450 Tomahawk

Was hoping to get some advice on which motherboard would be best.

Thanks, but new-egg does not ship to South Africa. I found the stuff you mentioned on amazon ( which is just much easier for us saffers) Just want to double check with you, kind stranger:

if buying new, buy a ryzen 3 2200g and a gtx 1050 (you want to check if the ti version of this card is in your budget) any 8 gb stick of ddr4 ram, a matx motherboard (something like this one https://www.amazon.com/Ryzen-Gaming-Motherboard-B450M-CSM/dp/B07FKV5HWJ/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1542351129&sr=8-5&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=b450&dpPl=1&dpID=51xLs42VqaL&ref=plSrch), you need to buy an ssd 128 gb and 1 tb or 500 gb hard drive if you are playing osu! only. buy a 400w psu since the gtx 1050 is not a power hungry card and you will not need anything more than that (just make sure that it's from a reputable brand (energon is shit). this is around 450 dollars.

if buying used i would go for gtx 970 for around 100 dollars (this would be a very good deal, if you can't get this get a used gtx 960 for around the same price, it won't matter if you're only playing osu!, then buy a used prebuild dekstop with a i7 3770 or i5 4460 or something of those generations, check if the pc supports graphic cards (if it has pcie slot then it does), if you can get a used prebuild system with ryzen for cheap then that is even better, but i would spend around 200 dollars on a prebuild dektop with that processor. you will probably need to buy a power supply for that graphic card and do not cheap out here and just go for 50 dollars (new do not buy used psus) 500w psu. this should put you around 350 dollars, and if the prebuild system didn't have an ssd then buy it for around 30 dollars.

Pretty sure this is the same one. You should post the build in pounds (change region on PCPartPicker at the top right) if your in England, it'll help people help you.
