Yes! You can read the whole series for free as well! Playing with Power - Book 1

I know it's a shameless plug, but I'm so excited and proud of it. I've always hated those billionaire books where the weak woman is saved by some rich guy. I love the idea of people falling into a fantasy where the protagonist is strong, flawed, but trying.

Lauren is a clever programmer in New York City. She has an asshole boss, a great but less-than-understanding boyfriend, and dreams of creating something better for herself. Whatever happens in her life, she's making it happen.

> Prologue

> It’s difficult to pinpoint the best moments in life until after they’re gone. The fondest memories aren’t always announced. They don’t come with balloons and feasts and circled dates on the calendar. Instead, they’re a collection of everyday things we only miss when they’re gone or have irrevocably changed. Unaware how special each minute can be, people rush through their lives confident that the best is yet to come. Lauren was no exception. Not knowing it then, as their car sped down the highway, she was leaving the last vestiges of her adolescence behind. Years later, Lauren would look back to that trip with Nick and feel a bittersweet twinge of regret. She’d think, If only I’d known then how quickly things would change, I would’ve held on tighter, remembered more.
>
> The roar of the open windows reduced the music to a loud, wordless melody. Lauren leaned against the head rest, her dark hair whipping in the wind, and closed her eyes. It was a day that felt somewhere between spring and summer, a clear blue sky with a warm sun. The traffic on the highway was light, a pleasant surprise as they drove into the city on a Sunday afternoon. Nick grabbed her hand and kissed her fingers, pulling his eyes from the road for a second to grin at her.
>
> “You can’t fall asleep now, we’re almost at your favorite spot,” he said, his blue eyes sparkling.
>
> “You can’t blame me. You barely let me sleep this entire weekend.”
>
> “It’s not my fault I can’t keep my hands off of you! Stop being so sexy.”
>
> Lauren reached her arms above her head and stretched. Two hours in their cramped rental car and she just wanted to be done. “It was really nice to get away just for a couple days. I never noticed how quiet the country is until we moved—or how dark.”
>
> “You know, we could have that all the time,” he said coyly, tiptoeing around a topic he knew was volatile.
>
> She sighed. “We spent all weekend talking about this. I’d really rather not rehash it. We made a decision together, remember?”
>
> “I know, I was just thinking aloud, didn’t mean anything by it.” He slipped his sunglasses down and scowled. Lauren rolled her eyes and stared out the front, hating that he made her feel like a mother putting her foot down. Her bad mood didn’t last long because just over the next hill was something she’d been waiting to see for hours.
>
> The New York City skyline slipped into view. Even if it meant going out of the way to get there, Lauren always made sure to enter the city from the same direction for just a glimpse. The whole of Manhattan stretched along the horizon. From the Freedom Tower on the right to the cluster of soaring, iconic buildings in midtown, to the void where she knew Central Park rested. The awesome sight made her feel significant and insignificant all at once. To be one of millions living in one of the greatest cities on Earth, struggling to make it, to succeed—the skyline embodied all that and more.
>
> “There it is,” Nick said casually, as if she liked it for the same reasons everyone else did. Lauren knew he’d never understand. To her, that urban landscape was like an affirmation. It was where all her hopes and dreams would come true.
>
> The road dipped and curved, the brief view now obscured. She didn’t know it but that would be the last time she’d look on that skyline with the hopeful optimism of youth. The next time her eyes fell on that outline, her life would be one big adult mess.

I love this idea! This is really difficult to do, though.

I looked through my lists of books and didn't find any that started with these words, but I combed through Amazon and found some. Mind you, I haven't read these, so I can't recommend them or not.

Also, for "marry", it is really hard to find books that start with that word spelled like that unless they're called something like "Marry me" which might kind of give it away. Maybe go with "Mary" or "Merry" for the spelling? Just a thought.

Anyway, books! I selected a bunch, some might have funny titles. I didn't know what kind of a vibe you were going for, so I figured I'd throw out what I found, silly or not.

Will

Will the Real Martian Please Stand Up?

Will You Still Love Me in the Morning?

Will and Me: How Shakespeare Took Over My Life

Will You Marry Me? For obvious reasons, if you use this one, I'd recommend giving the books in reverse order (Me, Marry, You,Will)-- or if you want to sound like Yoda.

You

You Suck: A Love Story This one is by Christopher Moore, a hilarious author.

You Only Live Twice This is a James Bond novel

You Can't Go Home Again This is a classic, and is supposed to be amazing. I've never read it though. :/

You Shall Know Them This looks really philosophical and strange.

You Never Know With Women Harlequin cheap novel. Didn't know the sense of humor, could be funny. Har har.

You Get So Alone at Times That It Just Makes Sense Bukowski.

Mary

Mary Shelley's Frankenstein Warning! Linked book is abridged. Booo.
Mary Barton Never heard of it, but Amazon calls it a classic.
Mary This one is by Nabokov.

Merry

The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood

The Merry Wives of Windsor Shakespeare.

Marry

Marry Your Baby Daddy Tee hee.

Marry Anerley This is large print and has no reviews. :/

Marry Me This one is by John Updike. I've never read anything by him, but he is supposed to be pretty good.

Me

Me Talk Pretty One Day Someone else suggested this and I second it. If you haven't read it, it is a book of short bits by the author about struggling with his speech in Paris. It is really good.

Me Tanner, You Jane Suspense thriller? Never heard of it.

Me Again People with amnesia. This book has really good reviews.

Me and Emma This one also has really good reviews.

Me! Okay, this one is a kids' book, but depending on personalities, it could work, so I threw it in here.

I hope this helps and that someone has read some of these books and can tell you if they are any good. Either way, let us know what you end up doing!!

My latest book, an age play romance novel centring on the story of a girl who auctions herself at a BDSM slave auction comes out Friday, you can pre-order your copy here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07D21JG5Y/

With everything to gain, Lucy seeks out the underground world of BDSM slave auctions. Without a moments hesitation, Lucy puts herself up for sale. Consenting to being someone’s slave is the hottest thing she can imagine. Hot nights as someones pleasure slave, not having any adult responsibilities beyond pleasing someone and making them happy, what could be sweeter?

Lucy is sold to a passionate and sexy man for a cool million dollars. Zac is a billionaire and after she signs his slave contract where she agrees, among other things, to call him 'Daddy', he shows her a world she could never have dreamed of. But, for Lucy, it comes at a price. She signed a contract giving herself to him, as well as everything she owned. Not that he needs her possessions with his billions, but this man does hold all the chips.

When Lucy realizes that she is in love with this man who keeps her as a highly valued baby girl slave, she begs her Daddy to burn the contract and take her as his equal partner, but he won’t budge. In desperation, Lucy runs away and he quickly finds her.

What will happen next? Will they find a way to make it work because he loves her just as much as she loves him? Or, will they burn the contract they signed and go their separate ways despite their sizzling connection?

A hot BDSM love story with a strong daddy dominant and sweet baby girl slave, this book has steamy scenes between our protagonists and a guaranteed happily ever after (HEA). A book so hot, it’ll melt your kindle.

The ebook is 2.99 and will be for a while. I move ebooks up to 3.99 when I release them in paperback (paperbacks are 9.99).

Hope ya'll like it! :)

Hey guys, here's my book, The Mess We're In. It's a Southern romance (though more love story than Harlequin) with hints of dramatic suspense. Here's the blurb:

After the shocking death of her sister, Lily’s life is shattered as she returns to her family’s small hometown of Dacre, Georgia, to raise her socially awkward nephew Finn. But then a television show comes to town. When the lead actor Dutch Sturgess takes an interest in Finn’s acting ability, then Lily herself, many around town are not happy. Especially Eli Bradley.

Things quickly turn sour when the paparazzi uncover the secret Lily buried with her sister becomes front page news and unknowingly exposes the painfully abusive childhood Dutch tried to leave behind. The only comfort they have is with each other, but their bond will be tested when Eli and his brothers decide to make trouble for them. Lily and Dutch will take on a centuries-old moonshining feud with the Bradley boys, unsure if the town—and their love—can survive.

It's also available in paperback. Kindle is $2.99 or free with unlimited, Paperback is $16.99.

Here's the opening:

We walked the mile from our house down to the City Hall in the gold light of morning, but Finn didn’t notice. He didn’t notice how lovely Dacre, Georgia, was first thing, as the roosters crowed in the distance and the dew glistened on the grass beside us. Not that many eight-year-olds pay attention to those details. No, he just noticed the crumpled pages in his hands, as he mumbled the words on the sheets over and over. Auditions apparently started at 10 a.m. sharp, so when we arrived, there was a line outside the City Hall doors, a range of different ages, all practicing and prancing. Almost every kid in town was here. In a town of just over 800 people, it was easy to recognize them all.

Finn was the only one in costume—my old, stained overalls which I stitched up to fit him—so everyone glared, the pinpoint of their eyes burned with envy. Every muscle within him tensed, as he leaned into me, heavy and thick.

“Pay no attention. They’re just mad they didn’t think of it,” I whispered to him. He swallowed hard, then held his head up. But those hands. They balled up and slipped down into his pockets without hesitation.

“But what if…what if it’s like—”

“—It won’t be like that,” I snapped.

Stupid Christmas pageant.

“It won’t be like that,” I repeated, squatting down next to him.

His lips pinched into a thin line. I sipped my coffee, trying not to recall that first audition. It was just for a local Christmas pageant and it ended with Finn having a panic attack, curled up in the back seat of my Jeep, whiter than fresh cotton after a wash. Behind us, the theater dissolved into a plume of yellow and orange as the fire department fighting to save the building.

“I just want to try. I just want to be better. Like other kids. You know, ornamentary,” he managed to push through the fleshy pink strips of his mouth. A dark cloud hung over him, as he played with the pages of lines in his hand, slowly folding into an origami version of his feelings, rolled and twisted at my words.

“Ornamentary? You mean ordinary? No, you don’t want to be ordinary. Or ornamentary. You want to be Finn Reynolds, awesome kid.” Finn smiled as his head bowed slightly, hiding the pink on his cheeks. My finger found his chin and pulled his face to me.

“Alright, let’s do it. If you want to try, then we’ll try. There’s no harm in trying,” I stated, pushing back the brown strands of hair from his eyes. His body slowly released, one muscle at a time, as I nodded to him. “We’ll do this. We can do this. Come on. It’ll be fine. You’re the best runner in all of Dacre, after all.”

He smiled, his brown eyes twinkling with a mixture of excitement and fear. I knew that twinkle. His mother had the same twinkle in her eye too many times. A shiver raced through me, as my hands ran down his tiny arms.

He’s not like his mother, I reminded myself.

I stood, only to find Harvey Daniels standing in front of me, a shit-eating grin on his paunchy face. His thick hand reached up to the few hairs on his head and slicked them down, though it did precious little to hide the white glow on his head.

Just what I need right now.

“Oh, I see you got an audition, Finn, but it looks like the entire town did. Guess they’ll look at anyone, eh?”

Finn hemmed, shoving his fists deeper into his pockets. “I don’t see you auditioning, so I guess they do have some standards,” I growled. Harvey stared. A small curve to his upper lip appeared just before he spoke. Finn pressed deeper into my leg, his breath hot against my skin, as he fought the panic rising in him.

“It's always a pleasure to see you, Lily.” Harvey joined us with a bright smile and a red bowtie, which was slightly askew. I thought of straightening it, but I just returned his smile and left it at that. Harvey slumped behind his niece, forcing a smile, while the sun blasting down on the small bald spot on his head. The gray streaks were beginning to show around his temples, which dulled his blonde hair. He wasn’t a bad looking man at one time, then Dacre happened. It has a way of getting to people.

Of course! Thank you for your interest! I will post a link to the Amazon page below with a better summary, but in a nutshell:

Lynn is an extremely smart and successful (and nerdy) writer who hooks up with Nick, the guy she fantasized about in high school. Nick is a smoking hot ex-Olympian turned developer. Both are driven, motivated characters who are almost as passionate about weed as they are about each other.

I wanted to write a story that explored weed as so many of us use it, not as a crutch or a limiting aspect of an individual, but as a modality that helps drive greater success and enjoyment of life.

You can get Break Free on Amazon! Here is the link, which has a more comprehensive summary and purchasing options. Please let me know what you think!

While You Were Sleeping used to be my fav movie, but as i age, it kinda sets me off more. But the dude stuck in the closet trying on her shoes still makes me laugh my ass off.

This week was mostly M/M, so if it ain't your thing, skip a few!

I've read Winter Spirit, which was kind of adorable. M/M novella set in Michigan with a paranormal element. Not normally a ghost story person, but this might've gotten me hooked. 4/5

Love Roan Parrish but Natural Enemies was a little meh. M/M short with a strong botanical theme, which i luurrvve, but the characters didn't feel like they had real chemistry. 3/5

Alexis Hall is my new best friend. His writing is just... ugh. Like a cup of hot cider on a cold day. Listened to the audio of both Glitterland and Waiting for the Flood. Beautiful books, fantastic narration. Darian's accent and slang cracked me up, but he was such a marshmallow i want to be his friend. Glitterland is: bipolar misanthropic educated asshole falls for a tanned, goofy model who is shallow on the outside but is genuine lovely human. Waiting for the Flood is a quiet short story with two shy lovely men in middle England finding love during a weather disaster.

Currently reading A Change in Tide cause i'm 41 and kinda needed something in my age range. M/F set in Canada, heroine is dealing with PTSD and became a hermit, hero is retired hockey star with the tired 'former player' trope. So far the writing is ok, sexual tension is high, but i feel there's too much introspection and not enough action. Not sure if will finish.

I tried it, you guys. I genuinely tried a shapeshifter novel. Nalini Singh's psy-changeling series. DNF. I know it's a popular series but it feels too misogynistic for me, anyone else?

Tried Politically Incorrect also, DNF cause it felt like too much wish fulfillment. Also wound up reading the Goodreads reviews partway thru (does anyone else do that? sort of a "should i bother with this?" last ditch effort) and some freaking illiterate review that was NOT marked as a spoiler gave away a MAJOR spoiler which happens to be a hated trope, so i abandoned it. Boo, cause it seemed so promising.

I have not read Just Juliet, but from your description it sounds like The Gravity Between Us by Kristen Zimmer might be something you would enjoy. I absolutely loved the book! I only wish it had been like 500 pages instead of just 300 haha.

From Amazon:

At just 19, Kendall Bettencourt is Hollywood’s hottest young starlet, with the world at her feet – but behind the glamour and designer dresses is a girl who longs for normal.

Payton Taylor is Kendall’s best friend since childhood, and the one person who reminds her of who she really is – her refuge from the craziness of celebrity life.

With her career taking off, Kendall moves Payton to LA to help keep her sane. But Payton is hiding a secret that could make everything ten times worse. Because to her, Kendall is more than a best friend – she is the only girl that she has ever loved.

Also check out the book thread that is stickied here on AL, I am currently reading my way through it.

I adore Loren D. Estleman's earliest Sherlock Holmes works, outre as they are, because even though they feature Holmes up against Dracula (Sherlock Holmes vs. Dracula: The Adventure of the Sanguinary Count) and Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde (Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Holmes) the two novels are wholly at peace with the canon and written in a remarkable approximation of Doyle's style. Estleman's later efforts are not very good and best avoided.

Ten Years Beyond Baker Street is a remarkable book, and quite possibly the most enjoyable Holmes pastiche I've ever read. Holmes is grumpy, Holmes is retired, and worst of all for him, he's pulled out of his snug home on a icy winter's night to find a missing secret agent. Yes, this involves the infamous Dr. Fu Manchu, but that doesn't reduce the enjoyment of this wonderful novel a single bit. It's massively enjoyable. Take note that Watson only plays a minor role in the story. Instead, the story is told in a nearly perfect approximation of Sax Rohmer's style.

If you wish a novel that sticks much closer to the canon, I highly recommend The West End Horror. I didn't care for Meyer's first novel, which meandered and had a hugely disappointing climax. Nor could I ever make it through his third novel. But The West End Horror is monumentally fun, even with a unlikely, bizarre ending.

When it comes to newer authors, I enjoy Eva Morgan's Locked (even though it couldn't be less canonical if it tried), Nicholas Briggs (from the absolutely fantastic Big Finish audio drama series), and James Bojaciuk (responsible for "Imprisoned, Half-Dead: a Syllogism" and the kinda-sorta-vaguely-Holmesian "Cemetery Games" ).

I also greatly enjoyed A Night in the Lonesome October, All-Consuming Fire (though the last third is awful), and Kim Newman's magnificent novel Professor Moriarty: The Hound of the D'Urbervilles.

A copy/paste of one of my posts from January:

There are several books about BDSM and its culture. Also female sexuality is often shunted for male, and both genders get a ton of misinformation in the judgmental world. The clit is a lot more than a nub and the proper term is vulva. I’ll post a few links of my favorite reading material and a bit about why I enjoyed them. The New Topping a New Bottoming Books a good overview of how to set up, the different types, and responsibilities of each person in a scene and explores the emotional side of it. https://www.amazon.com/New-Topping-Book-Dossie-Easton/dp/B001TJV5DW

Playing Well With Others. Examines the entire kink culture and how and why people can safely get involved. All the different symbols, types of D/s way more definitions then I could say here, the difference between a kink club, sex club, fetish night, leather bar etc. is all here. The back has a great long overview of many possible kinks and a chart for you to map out your experience and limit levels with each one. Also has a glossary of more books.

Also I’m new to relationships in general but to really learn how to make a woman feel good you might want to look into She Comes First. As you'll see from reviews even couples who've been together a long time really got 'energized' by the book. Also good at dispelling many myths around female sexuality that both men and women might think. It’s written by a guy but very focused on female-centric pleasure, right up a subby guy’s alley. It’s really helped me and I’m only halfway through since I got it 2 days ago!
https://www.amazon.com/She-Comes-First-Thinking-Pleasuring/dp/0060538260/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1483221177&sr=1-1&keywords=she+comes+first

Darling Discovered. A submissive woman’s journey from a vanilla relationship transitioned to D/s. I really identified with her for much of the book. The other recommendations are mostly objective but you really go into Mrs. Darling’s heart, it’s a true story so none of the trite clichés made by authors who know nothing of the culture. It may also give insight to those already in relationships considering BDSM, something I don’t have experience in. Her prologue that you can view with Look Inside certainly grabs the attention of the reader! https://www.amazon.com/Darling-Discovered-True-Story-Submission/dp/0997421916

I have a few newer reviews if you want?

If you want an example of what kinds of books could fall into contemporary romance, check out "Colters' Woman" by Maya Banks.

I don't consider it a particularly shining example of a good story, but it's by a bestselling NY author who's been around a while and is most certainly categorized as mainstream. But it was published in 2006, well before the FSoG craze and was accepted in the mainstream category even then.

While it's light on character development, it's definitely heavy on sex (it's a four-way menage - one woman, with three brothers and they are constantly fucking) and has a romantic arc. This one is actually fairly tame compared to a lot of the newer indie published books available. There's TONS more great sexy romance out there now that indies are taking over so there's no shortage of great romance to read besides this one.

This is me.

There's a lot to me, a lot of good and a lot of bad. I come from a bad past but I've turned my lemons into lemonade and I've made the best from it. :) I love to laugh, have a good time, love the beach, traveling, and helping others. I'm crazy about my friends, my boyfriend, books, tattoos, and makeup. I'm a makeup artist and I loveeee doing all kinds of makeup. :D

u/TheLonelySamurai · 1 pointr/asktransgender

Absolutely! It's part of a series but to be honest I read it without reading the rest of the series and it's pretty easy to just jump into.

It's called The Burnt Toast B&B and it is exactly as cheesy as it sounds, but as a trans guy it definitely hit home on a few things. The author got instant respect from me for making the cis guy gay and not bisexual. Not that bisexual men can't have legitimate attraction to trans men as men, but I've noticed a sort of creepy insistence from some authors that seem to imply you have to be bisexual to be attracted to a non-op trans person of either gender, which is something the trans community has obviously been trying to refute.

Edit: I do want to give a short trigger warning for anybody thinking to pick it up. The gay guy does fuck up at one point by using the trans guy's trans status against him in a fight, but to be honest I think it's handled extremely realistically even if the romance itself is set in a cheesy over-the-top setting (a Supernatural like show is being shot in a little town, and the trans guy works as a stunt double for one of the main actors). The gay guy knows he fucked up too, and he's not instantly forgiven for the mistake by the trans man at all. The trans guy's self worth is honestly really refreshing after dealing with your usual self-loathing trans narratives.

Hey! Welcome! There's a great journal out there called Where I Am Led that helps guide submissives on their path.

I've also written a book about my transition from a vanilla, egalitarian marriage to one of kink and power exchange. You can check the reviews on Amazon and if you/she would like a free author's ebook copy I'm happy as always to send one. Paperback is available there too if she'd prefer. I'd say get in at least a few young adult fiction, as they're full of saccharine and angst ridden metaphor:

The Perks Of Being A Wallflower

Looking For Alaska

A few historical fictions:

Wolf Hall

Memoirs Of A Geisha

Comedy:

The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy

Good Omens

Stephen king (just because he's a favorite)

11/22/63

IT

And finally, some objectively "bad" books, to learn what not to do.

Wild Animus: A Novel

The Da Vinci Code

Moon People

All of these books are personal favorites for one reason or another, and some may fit into multiple categories (see: looking for Alaska under YA fiction and "bad,").

That said, this should at least keep you busy for a bit.

Happy reading, and good luck on your novel!

u/sylphofspace · 2 pointsr/reactiongifs

Just want to put this out there because I've studied young adult lit and I'll never grow too old to love it: YA is an incredibly fascinating genre. It's an absolute goldmine if you're looking for character development. Even the books with horrible photoshop-vomit covers often have merit if you give them a chance, and the fact that something appeals to teenage girls does not invalidate its quality.

If anyone is interested in reading good young adult fiction, I'd recommend the following:

Here are a couple of things I really, really want:

Looking for Alaska is a fantastic book, and an entertaining and pretty easy read.

u/ExclusiveARC · 5 pointsr/eroticauthors

For what it's worth, read the first line of the second review of the #2 romance book on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Bossman-Vi-Keeland-ebook/dp/B01IMFDR9A/ref=zg_bs_158566011_2

And then this one, which is #3: https://www.amazon.com/Prince-Benefits-Billionaire-Royal-Romance-ebook/dp/B01HVG9M3Q/ref=zg_bs_158566011_3

And then the 4th review of this, which is the #6 bestseller: https://www.amazon.com/Perfect-Stroke-Romantic-Comedy-Brothers-ebook/dp/B01I91G7S0/ref=zg_bs_158566011_6

ARCs are the industry norm, they're used by all the top-selling authors, and Amazon accepts them as long as they're honest.

u/His_Bunny · 2 pointsr/BDSMcommunity

This book is awesome and really helped my boyfriend understand the D/s mindset and helped us move forward in our journey. The couple starts off vanilla so it should be relatable to you. The author posts here on the BDSM subs too.

Note: it's geared towards those interested in a 24/7 lifestyle but does contain some general useful "scene" info as well.

Here are some suggestions, but don't know how you'd find out if she's read them or not!

[Son of the Morning] (http://www.amazon.com/Son-of-the-Morning-ebook/dp/B002XQAAZO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1369866702&sr=8-1&keywords=son+of+the+morning) by Linda Howard

A Knight in Shining Armor by Jude Devereaux

Any of the Highlander books by Karen Marie Moning

What a nice gift!

I'm soooo drunk

When I'm drunk anything horrible or unhealthy for you is usually the first thing I go for. Pizza is always a good one. Usually anything salty though like bagel chips or popcorn.

I would love Looking for Alaska from my $5-10 WL if I win! Thanks for the contest! :)

Well, I got this

I can't even. What? I don't even own a Kindle for starters. And I don't know what part of me reading mystery & history screams "loves steamy romance novels!"

u/frcepeda · 1 pointr/AskReddit

Have you ever read Looking for Alaska? Well, it's pretty much about this. I suggest you have him read it. It's a really nice book.

u/SlothMold · 2 pointsr/suggestmeabook

11-14

  • Hatchet, about a boy stranded in the Canadian wilderness.
  • Holes, about a boy cursed with bad luck who ends up in a prison camp
  • Leviathan trilogy, a retelling of WWI where the Austro-Hungarians have mechas and the British have genetically-engineered whale blimps. This is evenly split between a male and female perspective (and a huge hit in a relative's special ed class for the same age group).
  • The Ranger's Apprentice, introductory medieval fantasy about a boy training to be a ranger.
  • Incarceron, about a steampunk labyrinth prison and the fake medieval world outside.
  • The Ear, the Eye, and the Arm, about mutant detectives in future Zimbabwe.

    15-18

  • World War Z, about a zombie apocalypse and how different countries and people deal with it. Has a lot to say about geopolitics. (Not necessarily YA, but popular in that age group)
  • Feed, where everyone has the internet in their heads from birth. While partying on the moon, boy meets girl who didn't get the feed until age 6.
  • John Green's other books, like Looking for Alaska, etc all have male protagonists.
  • Little Brother, about a teenage hacker swept up by the Department of Homeland Security after a terrorist attack on California.
  • Legend trilogy, about a dystopian United States and a police prodigy trying to track down another 15-year old rebel. This is another one split between a male and female perspective.
  • Kurt Vonnegut and Tim O'Brien are technically adult authors, but very accessible and popular in that age group.

Would also second Artemis Fowl, Percy Jackson, Ender's Game, and The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy that other commentators mentioned.

The part about winning favor by giving the lady (I don't think it was a queen, but I can't recall) of the manor an antihistamine definitely happens in A Knight in Shining Armor.

I never claimed to be offended. Not everyone is offended because you disagree.... but it's telling about your psychological makeup. You are the one that decided to claim that.

You don't have family? That's a personal problem. Thanks for confirming my assumption. The rest of your reply? I'm sorry.. you're a dreamer and reality just hit you on the internet.

You climb mountains because you don't know what else to do. I am sure.

I'm not disagreeing with you. You are lost and want to do this because 1) you think it's OK to do it unprepared and 2) you think it's important.

Good luck to you. Realize that the redditors you have been replying to tonight to are both the same person. You said thank you when I told you hat you wanted to hear.

Drop the attitude. You are not prepared. Study up and don't start this on a whim. You'll die.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christopher_McCandless Thought he "knew better" and would "learn as I go" and killed himself by being an uneducated dumbass. You are starting off on the same trail.

Enjoy your adventure. Leave your immediate family a power of attorney and a will. You are not ready for this.

Just off the top of my head these are three amazing YA books (all realistic fiction):

Looking for Alaska - John Green

Tales of the Madmen Underground - John Barnes

Revolution - Jennifer Donnelly

I would love a kindle because I used to have a Kindle Touch but then it broke from overuse. I have so many ebooks but I can only read them on my laptop. I would appreciate Looking for Alaska. I've read The Fault in our stars and I would love to read some of his other books.

u/judogirl · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Here is a kindle book I would like to read that is less than ten dollars.

Thank you for the contest!

u/destinyisntfree · 2 pointsr/RandomActsofeBooks

I would love to get a copy of Looking for Alaska which is only 2.50 right now. Of course, if the price goes up on it I will edit this.

u/choosetolose · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I'm just a sweet transvestite from Transsexual Transylvania! A mental mind fuck can be nice.

Aha I love the Rocky Horror Picture Show! I've always wanted to go to a live screening, but I've never had the chance :(

Anywho, sweet find! I'm really excited to finally read this book.

u/KariQuiteContrary · 4 pointsr/books

I second The Hunger Games and Percy Jackson series as recommendations.

Looking for Alaska is really popular among my high school students, both girls and boys.

Maybe Ender's Game?

The Seven Realms series is another one several of my kids have been raving about to me. I haven't gotten around to reading them myself, but it might be worth checking out. Starts with The Demon King.

u/ladyllana · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I've already read it, but if you liked it I suggest Looking for Alaska, also by John Green. It's also one you shouldn't read on an airplane.

u/AristaAchaion · 8 pointsr/RomanceBooks

I devoured all four books in Elle Kennedy’s Off-Campus series in the past 4 days. The first is currently free on Amazon! It’s a series about 4 different couples that all center around a hockey team at a fictional Northeast US college. Every book gets steamy and has several scenes throughout.

u/InevBetrayal · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I read these three recently, and i can safely recommend them:

The Fault in Our Stars by John Green (gonna have a movie made soon)

Looking for Alaska also by John Green

Warm Bodies by Isaac Marion (much grittier than the movie)

u/Zoobles88 · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Eleanor & Park, Looking for Alaska, and Fangirl could hit many of those relationship notes (no easy answers, not sure what you want, things are not all sunshine and roses) and they're quick reads.

u/all_my_fish · 2 pointsr/ftm

I don't know if romance novels are your jam. If not, maybe you could give these a chance anyway?

Coffee Boy is short and sweet, about an out trans guy interning on political campaign. The author, Austin Chant (who is a trans man), also has a trans retelling of Peter Pan called Peter Darling which I haven't read yet but plan to since I liked Coffee Boy so much.

If you can get past the super cheesy cover, The Burnt Toast B&B is a lot of fun. It's about this trans guy who is a stuntman but gets hurt so he has to take time off to recuperate. He needs a place to stay and is on a budget, so he goes to stay at a crappy bed and breakfast that is on the verge of closing down. Talks a lot about toxic masculinity. (It's part of a series, but no knowledge of the other books is necessary.)

Another one I haven't read yet, but am planning to because I like the author: Finding Your Feet. Trans guy is a dancer who just came out a bad relationship and ends up partnering with a newbie for a dance competition he doesn't want to do.
