Yeah my yard is too large for anything to really be effective, eventually I just kept the dogs outside longer which scares the cat away. Still an issue with the front yard which I've mostly given up on. Just sprinkle whatever the cat dislikes on your flowers or whatever you have in front.

Putting foil on the top of your fence might help, as cats tend to hate it. But it's not gonna look that nice.

The cat also scaled a brick wall like it was nothing (to get at a birds nest I had been nurturing, which pissed me off more than the cat poo)

I just don't have the time to really fight the cat to keep it out of my yard, but there's plenty of tip online that might help you :)

In the end I settled on Cat spikes on the brick to keep the cat away (not those specifically). Guess I'll just have to live the shit :(

I was thinking OP could buy something like this privacy fence

Black Fence Privacy Screen, 6x50 Feet Windscreen Fence Cover, 180 GSM Heavy Duty Fabric Mesh Fence for Outdoor Yard Farm https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07QQYNP1P/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_aJkCDbZ23A37E

And 4x4s cement, buckets, etc as you’ve previously stated and make a fence just by wrapping the posts. When they move it can move with them.

Something like this https://i.imgur.com/B868vVR.jpg

I’d think you’d like to add cross bars of some sort for support depending on the size of the patio
(Ninja edit) or maybe something like this in the corners https://i.imgur.com/ujfsoOv.jpg
Then it’s like a sun shade privacy fence. Little ghetto but it could easily be dressed up with better thought and planning.

What I ended up doing because they really liked it out there was getting some reed siding, something like this, and using that to line the inside of the balcony railing so that they couldn't jump off. It looked nice enough, and they were able to be out on the balcony safely.

You've got a few options. You can do chicken wire or similar, zip tie or staple it to your fence, and then bend it so that it lays along the ground, and stake it with landscape stakes. So it kinda looks like this

There are also dig defense commercially available, but they're super pricey.

We just have a few areas where the fence was a bit too high and we used this type of garden edging fencing (we just bought some at home depot)

If you have a chainlink that's just getting pushed up, maybe get some landscape staples and use that to secure the bottom of the fence down.

u/Kangaroo_Tactics · 8 pointsr/DIY

Great work! That chicken coup will be there for the long haul.

I'd suggest checking out a privacy fence screen, especially if there are dogs or predators in the area or at the neighbors. It's cheap, spruces up a chain link fence a bunch, and reduces potentially stressful attention the chickens might get.

Something like this

Again, Great work on the coup!

u/gravylookout · 2 pointsr/lawncare

You might not be able to build a fence but I'm sure there's no code about garden or landscape fencing like this. They're made in tons of styles and most people will take the hint. Plus, it's easy to remove once the trees fill in.

I put this stuff up and it works pretty well to keep my dogs from barking at my elderly neighbors:

https://www.amazon.com/Fence4ever-Privacy-Windscreen-Aluminum-Grommets/dp/B00H4PFKTK/ref=sr_1_17?ie=UTF8&qid=1525718300&sr=8-17&keywords=chainlink+privacy+screen

of course, I had to erect the 300 feet of chainlink fence to hold the privacy screen, so I'm not really interested in talking about it any further :)

u/redditia · 2 pointsr/homedefense

I've been looking at the available choices for concealment outdoors. What I've found is that some of these faux plants (ivy or philodendron, not actual flowers) are very hard to distinguish from real at any distance, and could easily hide a camera. The Arlo now has some camouflage skins, which would help: http://www.amazon.com/Windscreen4less-Expandable-Artificial-Privacy-Windscreen/dp/B00L4HQ6QK/ref=sr_1_1/178-9460381-7505245?ie=UTF8&qid=1453403289&sr=8-1&keywords=artificial+ivy+fence
Cameras pointed out windows typically perform fairly well during the daytime, but at night, there's the reflection issue which can't really be successfully resolved. The Ring doorbell has added a camera option which can be put just about anywhere, starting in February: https://ring.com/stickupcam If you just can't put a small camera where it can be removed, you might consider Safety Technologies Inc.'s camera cages, but you need to get in and change batteries on some cameras, so you'd need a cage you could padlock. May have to modify them somewhat: http://www.sti-usa.com/products_wire.asp

u/wedgered2 · 2 pointsr/reactivedogs

faux greenery for privacy is available for pretty much every budget. It can be tacky, but if you go for a garden vibe on the balcony it can work (adding some real plants would help).

Before you spend any money double check your lease/hoa... my friend changed out the blinds inside his apartment and the manager made him put them back up because it disrupted the uniformity of the building. Or something.

u/dirtydesign · 1 pointr/reactivedogs

I got this for my fence. They have different sizes and even tiles. It doesn’t necessarily look awesome, but you can’t really see through. It’s not too expensive, so it’s what I can do for now. It’s helping!

u/piepiepiebacon · 20 pointsr/legaladvice

The best advice I can offer is get some Fence Weave or Chain Link Fence Slats. When we bought our house it came with them and they are the best thing since sliced bread. My dogs don't bark as much now (because everything that passes by is barkable, I guess) and I get plenty of privacy from nosey eyes. We have white, but this is basicly it. Can be picked up at any hardware store.

u/AbsolutelyPink · 2 pointsr/HomeImprovement

You can attach shade cloth to them, use chain link privacy slats. They come in colors and are vinyl now. They make fake foliage to attach to them https://www.amazon.com/Synturfmats-Artificial-Fencing-Outdoor-Privacy/dp/B01HD7CYT2 or slide in the slats http://www.yourfencestore.com/chain-link-fence-slats.htm

They even have screens that look like flowers https://www.lowes.com/pd/FenceScreen-Purple-Morning-Glory-Purple-Morning-Glory-Graphic-Chain-Link-Fence-Privacy-Screen-Fits-Common-Fence-Height-6-Ft-Actual-25-ft-x-5-667-Feet/999977370

They're great options while you grow your own vine on the fence or not (less maintenance).

Any of these options could work. You can also use the chain link posts to attach wood fencing.

Search 'chain link fence privacy' and you'll get a host of options.

u/Ambrulynn · 2 pointsr/dogs

I'm pretty sure there are still "temporary" sections of vinyl that can be attached to the fence with zip ties. This way you can easily remove them for the landlord when you move. It should drastically help the chaos that ensues when the neighbor dog sees your dog in the yard. Might still bark, but should avoid the snapping and snarling.

Maybe something like this:

> But dogs bark. Are you asking for a law so that dogs can't bark at all?

I think that everyone should be able to buy a decibel meter, and if the meter measures so high, that it's loud enough to cause someone to crash, then the dog owner should do something about it.

Why not selectively breed dogs that are super ultra loud? Why not buy the loudest dog in existence? The laws are indiscriminate to this sort of thing. They will treat the loudest dog in existence the same way they would a chiwawa. I think you should be able to measure the loudness from four feet away, and if it's over 90, something has to be done for the well being of the people in the public road.

>According to Google

Well technically it's not google, that's just a search result it picked for you. And by that logic it's a 100 db bark that was lowered down to 95 because of the four feet. A 100 db bark is 2 times louder than a 90 db bark. And dogs can bark up to 110 db. So that

>According to Google

Is supposedly an average dog, of probably an average size. Not a large dog, that is extra loud. I'm not sure how 110 falls over 4 feet, but the 110db dog bark is 3 times louder. '

>It's pretty loud and random. Should we get upset about that too?

Well you can't do anything about thunder. Or at least we can. Don't cycle when it's storming, and roll up your windows when you are in a car. But the dog, you can do stuff about it. Like teather it so it's further away from property edges. Put a fragrance spraying collar on it so it doesn't bark.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00TKP9GLK/ref=asc_df_B00TKP9GLK5425474/?tag=hyprod-20&creative=395009&creativeASIN=B00TKP9GLK&linkCode=df0&hvadid=198098777641&hvpos=1o1&hvnetw=g&hvrand=8202926976776671682&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1015582&hvtargid=pla-332287219148

You can put a screen over the fence so the dog doesn't have view of people to bark at. This was completely preventable. And an extra loud dog with adhd and alzheimer's might kill somebody.

u/B-More_Orange · 11 pointsr/baltimore

You don't want a box around it. Boxes can do more harm then good because they keep water from flowing into the tree pit. You can pick up a decorative fence and put it up yourself. The ones by my house hold in the mulch just fine.

Build an inexpensive frame with wood and cover with ivy screen like this https://www.amazon.com/Double-Sided-Leaves-Privacy-Screen/dp/B007MN7P92

u/rextinaa · 3 pointsr/weddingplanning

A friend of mine had something like this at her wedding and it was DIY. She said the quotes she was getting from the decor rental companies were outrageous. So the groom's dad made it for them. I don't know what his process was or how much it cost but the frame was made of wood, so some carpentry skills would be involved. It was covered in faux boxwood greenery, so something like this.

If I were planning this, I might try to get some wood pallets for free/cheap. Attach them together to make a wall. Then make some sort of base so it can stand on its own. Then attach the faux greenery and decorate it!

They sell cat repellers for fences (you could also just use a plastic office chair mat upside down); that's what we used to do for our cat who liked to get on the roof. We kept her on a leash because she liked to walk in front of cars to stop them for pets and we lived on a busy road, and when she got bored she'd hop.the fence and onto the roof. We nailed it upside down on the fence never had a problem again. It doesn't hurt them but it's uncomfortable to the paws and they don't like it (neither do smaller dogs) it's a humane way to deter that's not too expensive. Maybe the neighbor would.be willing to work with you or reimburse you for something like this. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003ZYYV26/ref=asc_df_B003ZYYV265405453/?tag=hyprod-20&creative=395033&creativeASIN=B003ZYYV26&linkCode=df0&hvadid=222262841422&hvpos=1o2&hvnetw=g&hvrand=15142874249999668752&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9016822&hvtargid=aud-417278613774:pla-393557994465

You may check out these. Works for some cats - others it doesn't stop them.

u/BorsalinoGentlesir · 10 pointsr/gaming

It's cat, not a pidgeon! You gotta get cat spikes.

u/Hq3473 · 1 pointr/changemyview

Cat will roam.

If you don't like it, put up a fence with ant-cat spikes.
