It takes a lot of time. You need the right tools. Id' have an exacto knife, some clippers, some files, a good glue, and probably some gap filler. Oh, and a cutting board to work off of.

I linked some examples to give you an idea, you can feel free to find a particular product that works for you, although I do really like the Tamiya glue. There are a lot of little pieces so some people might like some tweezers as well. I use cupcake wrappers to help keep the pieces in one place as I'm assembling and keep them from getting lost. I'd recommend not working over carpet as a dropped piece might get lost forever in there.

As others have said, Vibrant Lantern has some great build guides, which are probably required for more complex models like the Phoenix.

Otherwise, don't let the amount of sprues overwhelm you. Pick a miniature to assemble and finish it before moving on to the next one. Most of them are fairly straightforward. I would really recommend you take your time in assembly, as getting the edges filed and gaps filled will pay off in the long run - nothing worse than a well painted model with gaps and mold lines showing. There are plenty of videos out there on how to do this if you aren't sure or just want some additional instruction.

Start with the White Lion and starting survivors. The Screaming Antelope and Butcher will be the next ones to tackle. All of these are fairly easy to assemble.

The mouse is Logitech MX Master 2s, the keyboard is space gray Magic Keyboard that comes with the iMac Pro, a new simpler and good looking monitor arm (Ergotron HX Desk Mount) and a new desk mat (Satechi mat & mate) The cup is from a japanese brand called Zero Japan. I've bought it from Japan, but you can get it from Amazon.com as well. It's a standing desk. A monitor arm makes it both clean, gives me more space and also makes it easy to lower/raise the iMac.

All the links for the gear:

Nice username - of course an outlaw would ask about the firearm haha.

Holster is a Bianchi OWB. It has "Model 56" stamped into the leather.

This is the desk pad. It's not actually a desk, too. I took a 60"x24" stainless steel workbench top and mounted it on a husky frame from Home Depot. I'm 5'8", and it's the perfect height for a standing desk.

Alright, so the going strategy in these cases is to put a normal sized hard pad ON TOP of your existing cloth pad like this (that black part is my glorious xxl pad, and the shiny part is my hard pad). So maybe consider that since it's kind of hard to find a hard mousepad, sold as a mousepad, in that size.

And if you go that route, just any 'ol hard pad from a popular manufacturer will do. Logitech, corsair, ... lots of companies make them.

But if you insist on an ultra-wide hard pad, you might use one of these options below (or something similar) as your mousepad and either deal with the length not being exactly as you wanted (36x11) or by getting one of the HDPE pads and cutting it down to the size you want:

  • pvc mat
  • leather pad
  • HDPE sheet (smooth)
  • HDPE sheet (textured)

Note: a lot of times the edges on the HDPE sheets are sharp enough to annoy if you lay your arm on it for a long time so you'll have to sand those down or whatever if you care about that. I can use my HDPE pad without issue though, the edges don't bother me enough to fix them lol.

Queen of office pranks right here!

Pink is the new black!

  • Make a canopy of Pink Tulle strips hanging from the ceiling of his des, so he has to sit under a waterfall of rose.

  • This pink mouse is really cheap!

  • Make him don this pink tutu when he walks near his desk.

  • Slip this old lady looking pink cardigan over the back of his chair, or pick one up at goodwill.

  • Add this pink heart-shaped post-it holder for style.

  • Organize all his pens/pencils/papers with tis pink paper stacker and these pink baskets

  • Add this ddesk mat, or just use a nice piece of thick pink cardboard, under his keyboard/wrist area.

  • This pink desk chair is only $40 bucks, prime eligible, so if you were going to get one big-ticket item, this should be it!

  • Here's an $11.40 pink heyboard

I could do this all day. PLEASE post photos when you're done with this prank!
u/bvdzag · 1 pointr/malelivingspace

Thanks! I got it as a combo mouse pad and wrist guard. It's softer to rest in than the wood. It should protect the finish of a desk like the Galant though, especially if you're using a mouse directly on it.

Although there's all kinds of branded equipment (from pin vises to knives to files) specifically for minis, you usually don't need to get the "official" stuff. Cheap pin vises (for drilling and pinning) can be found at any hobby shop, and my $5 set of files works splendidly.

That said, I did get the official wet pallette simply because it was much smaller than any non-branded ones and takes up less bench space. And, admittedly, I'm ok with paying for the convenience of pre-measured pallette sheets. If you wanted to try out painting with a wet palette (and you should!), you can make your own pretty easily.

You might also consider putting something over the table/desk/whatever you work on. So you don't get paint on it or accidentally cut into it with exacto knives. I just use a desk pad that I found at staples. That way I can also write notes to myself on it.

I use a xtrac carbonic desk mat and its pretty nice. I don't know how it stacks up to other pads though.

Would getting something like this to have under my PC be a good idea since it's going to be on carpet? I head that having some kind of stand helps with airflow, and I was wondering if this would do the job for that. http://www.amazon.ca/Startech-Com-24X26-Inch-Desktop-Anti-Static-M3013/dp/B00009XT3H/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1449298535&sr=8-1&keywords=anti+static+mat

Invest in a static pad for your build space and connect it to a ground. Better safe than sorry.

I like your idea of a monitor to watch movies. I put speakers near mine to listen to music while I work.

Well. I make speakers so what can you do...

u/uint128_t · 1 pointr/electronics

I'd get a couple multimeters, definitely flux, solder pumps, breadboards, maybe a vise, some perfboard, and a bunch of resistors/capacitors/common ICs/LEDs/logic chips/header pins/etc.

The components, perfboard, and breadboards you can get from China (via eBay or Tayda) for cheap.

Pliers, wirestrippers, dikes, tweezers, a few helping hands, screwdriver sets, etc are pretty much necessary. Since you're on a budget, you can get a bunch of this stuff from Harbor Freight, it's crappy quality but it'll do the job.

For the mats, you can get antistatic mats on Amazon (I have this on my desk right now, it's fine).

Consider a bench supply, it's not crucial if you're mostly working with Arduinos/Raspis, but could come in handy.

u/f1shb0nez · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

Haha it's actually a desk mat: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00D3RDWBQ?sa-no-redirect=1&pldnSite=1

The material is a little different compared to the standard rubbery mouse pads so it's a simple wipe-to-clean!

u/Robot_xj9 · 34 pointsr/buildapc

Man I know this isn't your question but I can't remember the last time I used a wrist band, hell, I don't think I've seen a professional use a wristband in the past 10 years.

Personally, with components being more much resistant to static discharge, I don't think it's necessary, I handle bare components all the time and have never had an issue.

but if you're intent on being extra careful, or you're working with sensitive components you can clip it to your case, the hard drive rack, the metal frame, just about anywhere that's metal, it needn't be bare metal either, the painted metal will do just fine, all the electricity is looking for is a place to run to, and trust me, the painted metal in your case is plenty conductive enough for that.

Some people will buy anti-static mats that have a little metal clip for your wristband, like this:

http://smile.amazon.com/StarTech-com-24x27-5-Inch-Desktop-Anti-Static-M3013/dp/B00009XT3H?sa-no-redirect=1

If you want to be extra-paranoid-super-careful, I'd do that.

u/GoD_IAmBeastMode · 3 pointsr/DIY

On amazon they have leather desk toppers for like 15 bucks. They cover approx a 2x3 foot area if I remember correctly. Actually as someone else already stated it’s a blotter

u/unevengerm2204 · 11 pointsr/Paladins

> I just turned on " Mouse Smoothing " or somethin

Thats a setting you never turn on if u ever want to get better with aiming.

It runins muscle memory and very negatively impacts your aim.

My 3 suggestions are

u/MyNameIsRay · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

The surface makes no appreciable difference, especially on modern sensors.

I use the 3M stick on:
http://www.amazon.com/3M-Precise-Non-Skid-Design-Bitmap-MP114-BSD1/dp/B00L2AN9PK/ref=sr_1_12/184-1441842-3092966?ie=UTF8&qid=1406907443&sr=8-12&keywords=mousepad+3m

It works, and never moves, which I love. I play on a slide out drawer with a kb and mouse on it, so it's not like I could fit one of those big gaming mats. This thing is thin enough that it's no biggie if you go off the edge, so it's never been an issue.

At work? I have a 3ftx2ft mat. No joke. (not the same brand, but same idea) http://www.amazon.com/Rhinolin-Desk-Pad-Microban-Black/dp/B00B5KGRIS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1406907582&sr=8-1&keywords=36x24+mouse+pad .

No complaints, I love it. Wish I had room at home. It's plastic (PVC) topped with a mousepad foam/rubber style back. 5 years and I smoothed out the section where I usually mouse, but that's it.

u/grahad · 3 pointsr/DIY

I am not sure when the attitude to anti-static precautions shifted; I don't use straps any more, but I do use mats that are clipped onto the device etc. I am not sure if you would even feel it if you produced a static discharge large enough to impact your work? (I honestly don't know) I guess it is not a big deal if a phone board or a MB is unknowingly sacrificed, but it would suck if someone was working on hard to replace board (old manufacturing controllers etc).

I really like your setup, and I didn't even know those blue mats existed!

It's a makeshift desk mat from a graphic design kit. You can get all kinds of different shapes and sizes but it's essentially a giant mouse pad.

Static electricity. There are however antistatic mats that you can buy such as: http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-24x27-5-Inch-Desktop-Anti-Static-M3013/dp/B00009XT3H

u/PrisonerV · 1 pointr/buildapc

Get a small anti static mat maybe?

I'd have her try grounding some other way first just to make sure that is it. I would think touching the computer shell would do it.

u/Dartmuthia · 1 pointr/buildapc

Get one of these and one of these and you'll be golden.

u/brotacochip · 13 pointsr/whatisthisthing

Looks like a cable that goes on an anti static mat to ground yourself. So you don’t shock an electrical component like a circuit board on a computer.

try that for grounding your desktop i have never grounded a desktop before i would look for a mat for your keyboard

as for the ping issue im not sure other than your connection to the router and internet

u/akelis · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

Ohhhhh, that'll kill a keyboard in a hurry. Try getting ahold of an antistatic mat -- here's one on Amazon -- put that under your keyboard, and always touch that when you sit down at the keyboard before touching the keyboard.

u/Shellac242 · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-24x27-5-Inch-Desktop-Anti-Static-M3013/dp/B00009XT3H

$20 bucks is worth it considering most stores will not take back parts damaged by you. Obviously everyone will lie and say "It never worked out of the box" but set their parts on a towel/carpet during the build. You caused the problem and now you have to ship stuff back or spend time going back to the store to replace parts. Spent more time and money then $20 bucks for an anti static mat.

u/4LTRU15T1CD3M1G0D · 2 pointsr/tf2

No problem!

I'm in the same boat man. I've been fucked by the DMV for 2 years now so I still don't have a license, and I'm 20. I'm pretty jealous of people that have the coordination to play instruments!

I understand the money struggle as well. I live on a dead-end island where all jobs are seasonal, so during winter jobs are scarce.

If you are scared about frying parts, you may want to look into getting an ESD mat, an ESD wrist strap, and a proper PC repair toolkit. Just some things every PC builder/user should have in their arsenal. Just follow proper procedure and ground/discharge yourself before working on parts and you'll be fine.
