Hey, congrats on your trip! Whatever you do, don't mount the cam directly to your motorbike. The image stabilization feature does more harm than good in this instance. Put it on your helmet or shoulder or some place. If you want to mount a cam to your bike, then I would recommend the X1000 as well since that doesn't come with the same image stabilization feature.

The X3000 comes with it's own waterproof case and works really well. Sony makes a decent monopod that I have used in the ocean. But any monopod will work as long as it has the correct connector. If you get the version that comes with a a remote, well it connects about 60% of the time. I find it very frustrating to use because of this. And the remote doesn't work under water at all. It is best to simply use your phone and download the play memories app from itunes or the google play store. Also, get a few extra batteries as the video on this only lasts about 25 minutes or so in 4K recording.

Edit: If you use the waterproof housing, the camera can get pretty hot. So I would use it only when going under water some place. I would also recommend the lens protctor which is only compatible with the X3000 and the AS300. There is a different lens cover for the X1000 if you go that route.

Second edit: You might also want to get some sort of material to act as a wind cover for the mic as well since all you will be recording while motorcycling is the wind overpowering the mic. And when you are handling the camera, make sure to use slow, steady movements if you are walking around. Sudden motions using the camera could make a viewer want to throw up, lol.

My Friday plans are to finish working, then go home and continue to arrange my apartment fully. I've lived there since November and little things I've been wanting to do just keep getting pushed back and back and so I've been making tons of lists and crossing them all off! I'm really excited for the final work to be done! :D TGIF!

If I'm lucky enough to win, this would be my item of choice! Thanks for the contest! :D

I was going to say make sure you update the firmware, but I don't think you can do that without an SD card. You have some patience though, I would have run to the closest store and grabbed the first SD card I could find.

i have been looking into sony ebook readers as well and in researching, i ran into a comment from someone about this model (the black case) and he/she found a solution. there are anti-glare screen protectors for this device.

http://www.amazon.com/Lexerd-PRS-600-TrueVue-Anti-glare-Protector/dp/B002L9YJJ6/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1279555623&sr=8-2

good luck with your searching! i think i might wait until black friday or xmas to buy one, so i can get some good savings.

PS: i also learned about calibre and i will definitely be using it to load up my device (when i eventually decide and buy one) with downloads and torrents. because of this software, i might even get a non-sony brand, since it gets rid of all the issues with file types (except those with DRM).

any redditors out there have the Sony 300 series? i want to compare both of these devices before i make a final decision.

I have a hero 5 and a session, I use [this cover](Screen Protector for GoPro Hero 5 Black Sport Camera (Screen and Lens), AFUNTA 2 Pack (4 Pcs) Anti-scratch Hero5 Tempered Glass Film Accessory https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M3V7K7I/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_sucyyb59CFX9Y) and it's worked great on both. I'm pretty sure my 5 has taken hits with this on and it's held up fine. GoPro also makes a super-case for the 5 but it's pretty expensive.

ya here you go
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B019OG6WMA/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

works fine for me, they fit well, a small bit of bubbling on the edges even though I applied it perfectly from what I remember, but it's on there and not going anywhere. i'd say it's a 4/5. if you really want to get the best one, why not get the official?

u/efects · 2 pointsr/SonyAlpha

i dont know why anyone would buy the sony plastic protector or the thin, plastic ones. tempered glass is what you should be buying:

www.amazon.com/Optical-Tempered-Protector-anti-scratches-Fingerprint/dp/B00R4IN4F4/

scratch resistant, optically clear glass that protects from just about everything and is super easy to apply. peel one edge off, stick it down, align the other 4 corners, then pull the rest off

I do photography, been doing it for about a year and a half but still don't feel comfortable enough to try and go the next step (buying a somewhat more serious equipment and start charging for photoshoots), my photos are not yet at an acceptable level!

Link to a public facebook album of photos I took while studying abroad in south america (has one or two NSFW photos of bodypainting)

Link to items:

Wireless remote shutter So i can take some nice selfies (not really!)

Eye cup because I lost mine while hiking in chile

Some extra protection never hurt anybody

Basically everything else I'd want camera related is above 150 dollars each :P so I chose inexpensive accesories to show things related to my hobby/passion :)

EDIT : An album with some select pictures

I use a thin screen protector that is slightly matte, which gives just a little texture to the surface. The current one I'm using is this one.

Just remember if you're going to apply a screen protector:

  • Apply the screen protector in a humid room, like a bathroom with the door closed after taking a shower. This helps more than any other technique I've found to cut down on dust getting behind the protector.

  • Clean the screen really well with a dry microfiber cloth beforehand

  • Whether you can see any dust or not, use tape (usually comes with the screen protector) to pull up any dust from the screen.

  • Take your time applying the screen protector.

Realize that if you haven't done this before you might mess it up the first time. Some of the screen protectors come in packs of 2 or 3, so you get more than one chance to get it right.

Those fit almost perfectly. Just need to round off one of the corners.

I always put a glass screen protectors on my cameras right when I get them. Unless you let a bubble in while applying it, they don't degrade the LCD image at all. They definitely provide a lot of protection from zippers, lenses, and other loose stuff in camera bags.

I buy mine on Amazon for around $13, the brand is called Expert Shield.

I take decent care of my gear, but I don't baby it, because I bought it to use. For example, I don't use UV filters on my lenses, just hoods and lens caps. But the LCD screens are pretty exposed when the camera is in a bag/backpack, so it's been a no-brainer for me.

I've had this one on since February and it's been great.

You made the right decision on this camera. The biggest thing is make sure the lens is ok. I went and bought this:

It protects the lens

u/voiceofid · 2 pointsr/photography

5R here,

I had the D40 and do not know what the difference is between it and the D80, so I cannot comment what you would miss

I do miss having a viewfinder sometimes, especially under bright light conditions

A couple accessories I would recommend

official screen protector, it dulls the sensitivity of the screen a bit, but I don't use the touch screen other than to lock focus, I do everything else with the dials, just like I did with the D40

Wasabi battery kit comes in handy when you are out all day long shooting

I use the Lowepro Exchange Messenger which can hold my camera, 4 lenses my flash, my phone and the 2 wasabi batteries without an issue

Enjoy the new camera!

Buying a Cintiq 13HD. Want advice on whether or not I should buy the accessories which I am. Here is what I'm getting:

  1. I am buying this protective case to prevent scratches on my screen and buildup of dirt or dust. Is this a good case? Is there a significantly better/mainstream one that I should use instead?
  2. I am buying this screen protector to further prevent scratches. Is using a screen protector a good idea? Is this screen protector of high quality?
u/alch3m1stz · 1 pointr/retroflag_gpi

this one actually fits better after you trim one of the corners:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01AW6QUQ4/

it's almost full coverage, maybe a 1mm on each side gap still.

u/mosskau · 1 pointr/SonyAlpha

I found mine on Amazon. Check the model number carefully. They are sold on the Sony website as well.

u/us_dev · 1 pointr/canon

I bought this one off of Amazon. Has worked well for me: Camera Screen Protector for Canon EOS 5D Mark III MK IV 5DS 5DSR 5DIII 5DIV, AFUNTA 2 Pack Anti-scratch Tempered Glass for DSLR Camera https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01L17BYZA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_ERs4ybKYJTSH7

Over here they seem to think that the MXH screen protector feels more paper like. I can't attest to that one way or another, though.

u/T3hDon · 4 pointsr/Multicopter

Luckily the lens is fine, it was just a cheap lens protector that shattered.

u/Leiryn · 2 pointsr/Multicopter

Yeah that's nearly identical

For your lens get these covers, they shatter and take the impact, leaving your GoPro intact. I've gone nose first into dirt/gravel after a failed dive and it looked like the gopro was trashed but just the cover was.

Amazon! http://www.amazon.com/GGS-Screen-Protector-optical-glass/dp/B008BYO1E8

As far as getting your 17-40 fixed, basically send it to canon via CPS (canon professional services) for repair. It's gonna cost you a LOT, just be warned.

EDIT: I'm a fuck who read an amazon page for 3 seconds.
