YAY!
I have a pattern for unusual music choices, but I find they are some times the best treasures.
I'm sure I can dig up more, but that should be a good start. :)
Cool!
I hope you don't mind me giving you some feedback. It's always hard to give feedback over the internet because you can never tell if you're too harsh.
Your uke playing is really good! I love the percussion you add, and I think it's really cool you take Pachelbel's Canon and turn it into a jam tune. That's fucking awesome.
I will say that there are a few areas of improvement I'd like to suggest, if you're willing to hear it (I know some people are disheartened by feedback, and that is NOT my intent, I just want you playing to your best ability).
The first thing is tuning.
Your uke is very out of tune. Always make sure your uke is in tune before you play. They will go out of tune every day, and even every few hours. You might have even tuned inside, because slight change in weather conditions can make instruments go out of tune quick. Always use a tuner, and if you don't have one, invest in a good one (the ones that latch onto your uke, for example), or get an app. It's hard for people to enjoy what you have to offer if they are distracted by bad tuning the whole song.
Tips for tuning: My guess is you probably can't hear it that well because you might not have the same training I do. So, train your ear! It's not that hard to do, just take a few minutes to tune your uke by ear before double checking it with a tuner. I use The Tuning CD which my professor suggested to all his students. Each note has a 3m drone of a root fifth and octave, which really gets things in tune. (For years now I prefer the tuning CD over a tuner, because I can get my instruments in tune faster and more reliably than a tuner can.)
I've found one of the tracks on youtube if you don't want to buy the album:
Drone on C:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FIq_uGKD7Aw
You can use that for C & G strings at least. Don't tune the E string to it, because of crazy physics stuff. Only tune "perfect intervals," like unisons (obvi), 4ths, 5ths, and 8ves.
But even if you tune the C & G by ear each day using this CD, its great ear training.
The second is tempo.
You are gradually speeding up the whole song until the end. I can't tell if it's an intentional, gradual speed up, or if you are just rushing. Regardless, IMO a consistent tempo is better because your interpretation is like a jam tune, and it'll groove so much better if it sits on one tempo at a time. That said, you could still make an intentional tempo increase, perhaps using two bars to lead in to it, but then stick to that new tempo without rushing. The music at 1:20 is one good spot to do this.
Also, your rhythm is sloppy. I didn't notice it at first, but once things picked up in the middle it was another distraction from your music.
Tips for tempo: How can you make your playing consistent in tempo, and precise in rhythm? Practice with a metronome! I prefer a dedicated metronome device over an app, because I think its more physical and cuts through the air better. The basic idea is to practice so slow there is no way you miss a beat, and then once you are grooving at 100% at that tempo, increase it 5 bpm. Repeat. It takes a lot of patience, but think of the long game instead of the short.
So, take a few measures, especially when you are grooving, and repeat them over and over. Whatever tempo you are playing it at, divide by two. As said before, do not increase tempo until it is perfect rhythm every time
That's all I got, tuning and rhythm
You have some great skill, so don't let these things distract from your playing. Honestly, I wouldn't bother with typing all this shit up so thoroughly if I wasn't impressed by your uke skills, no joke. Your interpretation is awesome, and also attaching the camera to your uke is really cool too. Kinda trippy, I like it. Is that a gopro?
Down by the Water by PJ Harvey (only a live lyric video, I'm sorry!). Basically pop but not really and it is really moody. If you like that, you'd probably dig Limp by Fiona Apple.
I'm going off your love for Britney and Katy here (two rad girls). Maybe try out some Bjork? Big Time Sensuality is one of my favorites from her. Fri-End? by Kate Nash (my girl crush since forever) is a great tune to dance to and she's a wonderful performer.
As for Daft Punk, try out something with the same kind of attitude but with a bit less electronic elements that can get kinda tiring (couldn't listen to all of RAM in one sitting). I always got a similar energy from the lovely men in Franz Ferdinand.
I see you dig Rush (a band that took me forever to appreciate). Try Styx. Their song Renegade has always been a favorite of mine, and I'm not ashamed to own most of their discography on vinyl.
Amazon links to each song:
Down by the Water
Big Time Sensuality
Fri-end?
Take Me Out
Renegade
And also, shameless plug for my boyfriend's band The Informal Gentlemen who make some pretty rad music you may enjoy. Their first album, Orange Lights (found on the side of the screen when you scroll down), is something you may enjoy. A bit more on the poppy side (lots of Fall Out Boy comparisons apparently).
Hope you dig!
Beach Brat - Beachview Avenue EP
Breezy island beach party simulacrum.
Hans Reichel - Yuxo
Kind of like Pink Floyd's Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together in a Cave and Grooving with a Pict but on different drugs and played almost entirely with contact-miked bowed wood.
"Why is Hans Reichel a genius? Because he invented the daxophone, one of the strangest, most fascinating instruments of the 20th century, but also because he has been able to use its full potential in pieces that bridge avant-garde composition and family entertainment. Released in 2002, Yuxo picks up where Shanghaied on Tor Road had left ten years before. Subtitled 'A New Daxophone Operetta,' it is performed solely on Reichel's wailing microtonal instruments -- actually, an array of these in different shapes and sizes, multi-tracked to create a virtual orchestra of daxophones. The term operetta has not been chosen innocently. Reichel keeps from the classical genre its song format (albeit instrumental here) and lightness. The melodies are playful, the arrangements deceptively simple. At the core of it all resides the sound of the instrument, throaty but clear, an impossible cross between the violin and the human voice." – François Couture
Beauty Pill - Describe Things As They Are
Kind of all over the place but coherent, Thor Harris of the SWANS made probably the most insightful comment about it: "This is not a record made by kids. No offense, kids."
Ambitious Lovers - Greed
Arto Lindsay (DNA, Lounge Lizards, etc.) had this band in the 80s. They put out 3 albums. No compelling reason they shouldn't have been huge, but they weren't.
DOPETHRONE - Dark Foil
Not one of my main genres, but this EP is 100% premium grinding stoner sludge that scratches the itch when nothing else will.
Alice Coltrane & Pharoah Sanders - Ptah, the el Daoud
No idea how obscure this is or isn't. I have a friend who's a walking jazz encyclopedia. Tells me about stuff to check out and I do. That's all I know about jazz: I know what he tells me and I know what of that I like. AFAIK Alice Coltrane (John's wife) isn't on most non-aficionados' radar, but apologies if this one's common knowledge. Anyway, this album (and a lot of her other stuff) is fantastic if you like that spiritual, kind of outish but still coherent stuff.
Bodenständig 2000 - Maxi German Rave Blast Hits 3
(Obscurity: questionable? Popular in a small circle?) Took me a few listens through but after that I think this might be the best electronic record since Kraftwerk. It presents as a kind of goofy chiptune thing, which is it, but that's definitely not all it is.
Toby Twining Music - Shaman
Seriously crazy-ass wordless a capella like I've never heard it before or since. Particularly partial to the title track.
For scales I prefer playing with a drone over moving by notes.
In school I used The Tuning CD (https://www.amazon.com/Tuning-C-D-440-Richard-Schwartz/dp/B002COP51Q)
The tuning app Tonal Energy can play back notes and stack chords. It has an analysis tool that graphs your pitch too.
When preparing for recitals I like to follow this http://www.violinmasterclass.com/en/practice-schedules
I would create a chart with each piece divided into sets, technical set( shifts intonation awkward passages bowing) metronome set (starting slow working up passages) then full speed
Also practicing backwards helps me too. Starting with the last measure or phrase and systematically moving backwards a section at a time until you're playing all of the piece.
The ABRSM repertoire is under a graded system too. This syllabus has recommended pieces from beginner to advanced. Along with scale expectations http://us.abrsm.org/fileadmin/user_upload/syllabuses/violinComplete16.pdf

RAoA tip: Making friends is crucial here, not so they'll gift you stuff, but because the people on RAoA are the most human people I've met on the Internet. You can talk to them about anything, and they'll listen and be true. Make friends.
When everything seems to be crashing down all around me, I just say the Blue Lantern's oath (I'm a lvl 100 nerd) or watch one of my favorite movies.
This gif never fails to make me laugh.
A professional wrestler once stole a car with a water gun.
Under $3
Ella is getting a big girl crib! Woot, if you want see some adults being responsible about childcare, give me a hell yea!!!
Needing/Getting - OK Go, It's Time - Imagine Dragons, Mountain Sound - Of Monsters and Men, You, Me and The Bourgeoisie - The Submarines, I Love It - Icona Pop (feat. Charlie XCX)
I've tried to pick songs with a really strong beat behind them, which is what I prefer to run to. Good luck in the half-marathon, you're probably going to have quite a few BLISTERS by the end :D
It really depends on the type of job you have:
Apparently this song is pretty popular so maybe you have it too, haha.
Thanks for the contest!
“Rochard” was a lot of fun, though not without a bit of controversy. I'm watching the price of the DLC intently. It's a 2D puzzle platformer, similar in some ways to “Portal: The Flash Version”, but bigger, shinier, with an original plot and quality voice-acting.
“AaaaaAAaaaAAAaaAAAAaAAAAA!!! for the Awesome” is a heart-pounding thrill ride. Literally. Well, minus the ride part I suppose—you're just falling.
“Just Cause 2”, currently a daily deal for 80% off, is a sandbox action game—there is a plot, and I actually wanted more of it, but it's decidedly optional. You have a wide variety of guns and vehicles to use against your enemies, and infinite parachutes and grappling hooks by which to navigate. And the soundtrack is called “Music to Blow Shit Up By”. 'Nuff said. (Fair warning: I have the PS3 version. But I've heard good things about it on Windows, usually including a mention of the multiplayer mod.)
“Darwinia” is an RTS with an AI theme. You're rescuing a virtual world of AI people from an infection of computer viruses.
“Beat Hazard” is a 2D space shmup, similar to “Asteroids”, with the twist that the pace of gameplay is determined by your music. When the music gets soft and/or slow, the game slows down. It comes with a selection of electronica tracks to start with, but part of the fun is experimenting with different music—“Mars: Bringer of War” works well, as does most of Zircon's album “Antigravity”.
Thank you for the contest.

|name|Adham Shaikh|
|about artist|Adham Shaikh is a composer, record producer and sound designer. His present 15-year history with music began by exploring synthesizers in the early 1980s, which ushered in a whole new frontier of musical experiments and explorations. In the early 1990s, Shaikh found the electronic music scene full of innovative and explorative sounds. This environment created an opportunity for him to present his compositions to an audience already embracing electronic music. ([more on last.fm](http://www.last.fm/music/Adham Shaikh))|

Definitely thinking myself the hands in this video is Throttle's. Would be an amazing comeback for him, and I am sitting here with my jaw dropped - I have missed him so much and now maybe he is back!
EDIT: okay, so apparently it isn't Throttle because of this, but oh well - Didrick is cool to have too!
This MP3, which on the face of it, an MP3 might not seem so cool, but the music video is seriously amazing and honestly, the song lyrics seem entirely appropriate to the sad news received today about our co-worker, who always seemed very outgoing and never upset.
So that's my entry and I'm sticking to it.
Neotokyo has an amazing soundtrack. I love zoning out to it.
This song is fun, and I'd love to put it on my workout playlist. Dancing Lobsters!
In case you need the song it's Ty Parr - National Aerobic Championship Theme and it's available on iTunes, Amazon, and Spotify
EDIT: What? Reddit Gold?! Thanks! WATCH ME GLIMMER!
I CAN'T EVEN! 'What's Up' by 4 Non Blondes. It came out when I was in High School and besides being played non stop, it was popular with all of the cool kids(which I was not). I swear I grind my teeth when it comes on. Much to my chagrin it made a HUGE comeback with this gem. I am now in love with this.
This is so silly, but my husband and I have been listening to it via YouTube for a bit now. Be great to jam to it in the car!
This isn't a soundtrack to an actual game, but rather a sound track of gaming as a whole. At least, that's my take on it. If you like video game music, I highly recommend this album by Zircon.
This is the song from the 1987 and 1988 Crystal Light National Aerobic Championships.
Video of the 1988 championship.
It's also on Amazon, Google Play, and Spotify. If you have questions or want it released on other platforms, I suggest you contact the Association of National Aerobic Championships. I contacted them a few days before they released it on iTunes, and they sent me an email shortly after it was released, so I think they are the ones who released it.
This because I love Lana and this is a good remix.
Or This which is a little cheaper :)
Chuckle Fucks.
I recommend the whole Today is a Beautiful Day album. Both Nagi and Supercell show a lot of range.
I can never list one, forgive me based god.

Such a great album. It's almost a dollar cheaper on amazon: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008L2M5GQ/
If I remember it right when the comedy video Aerobics Meltdown was posted on reddit, someone find and link the original 1988 Crystal Light National Aerobic Championship THEN someone else actually hunted down one of the member of the production team to ask if they can put the full version of the song on the internet and about two days later it actually appear on Amazon.
Edit: It appear that the song was released on amazon (November 7, 2014) and iTunes before the Key & Peele video (November 20, 2014). Can't find the original thread.
I was wondering if they just straight-up stole the title and picture from him Neotokyo was released in 2009 after all, but it sounds like it was done with permission, maybe?
If you're like me and want to buy the song, I found it on Amazon: Water Prayer Rasta mix (Matt the Alien Remix) by Adham Shaikh

I'm not sure exactly what would classify as "melancholy whisper music", but Purity Ring comes to mind specifically their album Shrines
