Top Reddit comments about Dog Fish Oil Supplements:

For food - I use victor. It’s pricey but I’ve found best results with it. Mine has allergies so he’s strictly salmon and sweet potatoes, but I’ve heard good things about all of their products. Taste of the Wild and Merrick are great brands too.

For supplements, my blue is 92ish lbs and outside some allergies due to a compromised immune system as a baby, he’s overall very healthy. I give him omega-3 supplements for his coat and salmon oil (I’ve given him different ones, the most cost effective option I found to be salmon oil capsules from the vitamin aisle at target but you can buy the pump dispensers at pet stores or even online).

For a collar, to be totally honest - DONT spend good money on a good quality collar until he’s done growing. They grow so fast and so much and they play so rough as puppies you’ll be spending money hand over fist. However, I’d invest in a good harness and teach him not to pull from a young age. I’ve tried a ton of them and somehow the brick head managed to slip out or break out of most of them but this one which you can also buy at Petsmart.

Good luck and post pics of your new baby!

I would recommend the following (and you clearly already know about them):

Nutramax Cosequin DS

Phycox

Dermaquin

You can actually get the Cosequin and the Dermaquin is free

I'd also recommend a high quality senior food like Wellness Just for Seniors

Wellness uses all human grade food.

It can be spendy taking care of an older dog but it's well worth it.

Amazon is a good source for the stuff I linked above but I'm not sure that store I linked to has the best prices (I have ordered from them and others) so shop around for better prices.

Always a diva.

Someone else in the thread suggested carrots, I’ve used that at times. Just make sure they are in bite-sized pieces and softened in water. Or just used canned carrots.

Canned pumpkin is a other good option. Just be sure it is pure 100% pumpkin with no other ingredient and not pumpkin pie filling or other pumpkin product, the labeling is less than clear. With pumpkin just be careful because it is high in sugar.

Technically both those are orange.

Blueberries can work well and are also not green.

You can try mixing the fruits and vegetables with salmon oil. It’s a supplement for skin and coat health, but some dogs really love it and it also had a strong smell.

I just see this being your hippo. .

Some vets will, some vets won't. It is usually more expensive to have a vet make a house call. I prefer to do it at home though, and the extra cost is worth it to me.

I obviously don't know your dog, but I have a golden retriever old man who is going to be 13 next month. His hips are also not too good and I sympathize with you. We have been bringing him to the vet a lot lately about that (on top of many other things), and asking for help making him more comfortable. Our vet recommended giving him fish oil on his kibbles. I kind of rolled my eyes because I was expecting to get him some pain medication, but she was wary of that because of his history with seizures and the meds he's currently on. I just thought I would mention this because after about 5 days of using the oil, he had perked up a lot for an old man and seemed to want to play more and trot around, as opposed to bark at you and look at you with sad eyes asking you to help him around. Even if it is nearing the end of the road for your dog, maybe that is something to look into to help ease his pain even a little bit.

We have the orange furminator for long hair. It does ok, but it pulls at the hair.

This is cheaper and does an amazingly better job raking the undercoat: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01EZ7UOCM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_O-YbBb6MTAZ3G

Also, I promise I'm not a paid spokesman, you can check my history. These supplements have really helped the softness of our girls fur, and shes starting to itch less on her paws/wrist area: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06ZXX93TG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_NbZbBbHV898X5

I'm on mobile. If these are the wrong Amazon links, let me know and I'll change them when I get to my computer. I dont need referral links, just trying to help other wiggle owners.

If anyone has any better experience with supplements (fish oil/omega3/whatever) let me know. I'm open to try new stuff!

I buy it from Amazon. A bottle lasts almost a year. I only give it for breakfast not dinner. Half pump for pups full pump for adults

Pure Wild Alaskan Salmon Oil for Dogs & Cats - Supports Joint Function, Immune & Heart Health - Omega 3 Liquid Food Supplement for Pets - All Natural EPA + DHA Fatty Acids for Skin & Coat - 32 FL OZ https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00WZZQ46C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_g8.OAb3HV1PNG

Fish Oil and Glucosamine/Chondroitin are good joint health supplements. My girl has very mild arthritis in her elbow and that's what her orthopedist recommends. I use Iceland Pure fish oil (sardines and anchovies) and Cosequin DS.

In the mornings, let him really wake up/loosen up from any stiffness before doing any strenuous activity. Massages are good, so give a little extra tactile love.

So, one of the benefits of salmon oil is that it helps older dogs joint pain from arthritis, the oil may very well help your dog feel less pain when they walk.

Putting 1 - 3 pumps depending on your dog's size in his dry food each morning should show a positive impact on his joint health within a month to a month and a half, so you'll know whether it's helping his condition or not after giving it a shot for that long.

Also, another benefit for older dogs is that salmon oil is nothing but fats, so if you add a little bit extra it's good for plumpening up a dog that has become a bit emaciated as they have aged.

You can check out our salmon oil product here and here and here

u/afty · 2 pointsr/chowchow

This is the exact food I feed my chow. He likes it. Once we tried to switch to the 'beef and sweet potato' version just for some variety and he did not care for it so we went back to the Salmon version.

Side note: No matter what you feed them I highly recommend buying some pet salmon oil and putting a squirt or two into their food everyday. It's really good for their coat and joints!

u/Greydmiyu · 1 pointr/ferrets

My advice, don't buy salmon oil from Amazon. We ordered this brand all the time from Amazon. The kidlets liked it.

However starting a few shipments ago every box came covered in salmon oil. They wised up and started shipping it in a bag since it leaked so much. But even then we were left with a bag slimed full of salmon oil and the container itself covered in it. We'd have to open the bag in the sink, wash the container before being able to handle it without dropping it. I suspect it has more to do with the knocks and bumps that happen with that kind of container than with the particular pump on that brand.

Since then we've gone back to purchasing whatever brand is available from the local pet store. Better than having who knows how much covering the packaging.

Sorry, I guess I should have been more clear lol . It is a food supplement . You follow the instructions on the bottle and squirt it in the food .

Ultra Oil Skin & Coat Supplement with Hempseed Oil (32 fl. oz.) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0048Z93NS?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf

My dog is a bit of a picky eater and getting her to eat enough food every day has been really difficult. With a few squirts of oil she is much more drawn to her dry food and generally will chow down happily (instead of leaving the food until she's desperately hungry).

u/fuchsialt · 2 pointsr/dogs

found this: http://www.amazon.com/Virbac-Rebound-Liquid-Diet-Dogs/dp/B004ZMTQTK

Don't know anything about it though. Maybe you can cut her dry food and soak it in something like this this instead of water for added flavor? Or low sodium chicken broth mixed with water and her dry food?

u/Zunger · 3 pointsr/dogs

This Cosequin is what I get my GSD and GSD mix. My GSD will eat them no problem my my mix doesn't so we have to hide them or trick her. We also give them this Salmon Oil that they both like.
