Try putting baking soda followed by vinegar down the drain. Let it work for 10-15 minutes, then run hot water for several minutes. If that doesn’t work, I’ve had good luck using these to really get out the gunk

and then doing the baking soda, vinegar, hot water thing.

u/rootmarshfield · 3 pointsr/funny

You might consider using these . Works like a charm.

This one is pricier compared to the other tool listed. I have it and it works great.

Instead of bleach, I've heard to pour peroxide down it regularly. Can't speak to it, just what I've heard

I agree, we need a better picture but it kinda looks like a automatic plumbing snake without the actual snake attached. Not exactly like this one but a basic idea

if it's crusty and gunky then, yes it goes in a lye tub... I think I only have about 5 gallons in a plastic container... so little more than skillet depth... some of these, like the wagner block logo dutch oven I just washed and then stuck in the electrolysis tank... the wagner #10 heat ring skillet and the lodge lid went into the lye... they'll be ready tomorrow.

I think I just went to the local ace hardware... they carry some of the more old school products... and I think I bought the roebic brand drain cleaner... it is listed as 100% sodium hydroxide... nothing else...

We took the toilet out and flipped it over and used the toilet snake (a fancy toilet auger, actually. The ridiculously large things that look like this. Didn't budge at all. We didn't even try to push it down further into the toilet at all, the pipes are just too narrow to push it down. Up and out would be the only way. It is just so damn stuck!

Edited for clarity.

u/jimpen · 1 pointr/AskReddit

Kinda late to the party here, but one thing that always pays for itself after the first use is a quality toilet snake. Aside from saving a minimum $80 call to the plumber, there's no feeling like seeing a backed-up commode and saying to yourself - "it's cool...I've got this."

u/Mr_Slippery · 2 pointsr/science

One of these. Alternatively, your local hardware store probably stocks compressed-air cans good for two or three usages for $10. I have a wife and daughter with long hair who use goopy body wash, so it's pretty much a monthly maintenance task for me by now.

u/podrick_pleasure · 3 pointsr/oddlysatisfying

If it's just the shower clogging up these things work really well.

u/iovulca · 1 pointr/personalfinance

Is it just the line that needs to be cleared out? If so just buy one of these

u/InfernalWedgie · 2 pointsr/NoStupidQuestions

Buy THESE hair catching things. I have used them. They are brilliant. But the stuff they pull up nasty, so wear gloves.

u/SirAdrian0000 · 1 pointr/Plumbing

You need one of these.

But hair alone is usually not enough to clog a drain, there is probably something stuck in there that catches the hair. Get it snaked really good and then try to minimize the amount of hair going down the drain.

u/Forgetful_Jones · 1 pointr/fixit

Harbor freight does sell snakes but dont buy them. You will break your toilet if you try to run a power snake through it. You can try a toilet auger but the ones sold at hardware stores are realy flimsy, profesionals use this: https://www.amazon.com/RIDGID-Toilet-Clogged-Toilets-Renewed/dp/B07QM2WX4W/ref=mp_s_a_1_6?adgrpid=55686021323&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIp4fCkdXo5QIVFv_jBx12HwxVEAAYASAAEgL2jvD_BwE&hvadid=274718721998&hvdev=m&hvlocphy=9032375&hvnetw=g&hvpos=1t1&hvqmt=e&hvrand=3078267056132094940&hvtargid=kwd-301741407530&hydadcr=25034_9903507&keywords=ridgid+toilet+auger&qid=1573698905&sr=8-6 but it requires a bit of technique. Youre goung to have to get toilet bolts and a new wax ring, pull the toilet and remove object from back.

u/TheElSoze · 13 pointsr/HomeImprovement

Most of the time the clog is up close and you can settle for the disposable plastic ones

u/robocopkerr · 1 pointr/subway

I use a drain snake. We bought one for basically all the pipes and toilets at the store and the one we bought fits in the pipes. Cobra Plumbing 20500 3/8-Inch by 50-Feet Drain Auger https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000H5RQCI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_hvoaBb011A24V

I personally just use my air compressor and preemptively blow it out once a year, otherwise I find I get a clog.

u/WeedStocksAccount · 2 pointsr/Plumbing

It's clogged.

Look for one that's 6ft. If that doesn't work you'll have to call a plumber with a big snake.

u/VanGoFuckYourself · 153 pointsr/interestingasfuck

Nah, they actually flush pretty well. The water level goes up quite a bit but the pressure pushes them through. Suppose if you had a preexisting issue with your plumbing, the story might go differently.

Edit: I should note that worst case, these things mash up easily. So if you did have an issue flushing them you could easily use a snake to clear up the problem. Or your hands if you aren't a sissy.

u/Can_not_Be_Repaired · 2 pointsr/HVAC

this It uses co2 cartridges to blow out the drain. No, you don't need to take it apart.

u/coletain · 4 pointsr/HomeImprovement

You unscrewed the drain and allowed water to just go into your floor under the tub instead of through the plumbing. You have water damage now, it will be expensive to fix and you obviously do not have the skill to do the work yourself so you'd best get a pro in ASAP, the longer you wait the more expensive it will be to fix. Bare minimum you're probably gonna have to pull the tub and rip out/replace the damaged dry wall, hardieboard etc, get everything dried out and do mold prevention, paint and put the tub back in. Best guess, maybe a thousand bucks but it'll depend what the damage is like when you get in there, could be more.

What you should have done was just used a cheap drain cleaner to unclog the hair.

u/TILtonarwhal · 2 pointsr/Tinder

I like to shave in the shower without the water one and while I’m dry. Then, just turn the water on and wash it all off. Also, buy one of these bad boys for the drain. I’ve never had a hair clog I couldn’t get with one of these alone.

u/Blox05 · 1 pointr/BuyItForLife

Honestly I would skip the plunger and get this instead.

RIDGID 59787 K-3 Toilet Auger, 3-Foot Toilet Auger Snake with Bulb Head to Clear Clogged Toilets https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000H5XSS4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_UcRGyb8EQ3TX6

I have used all sorts of plunger and they never seem to work well. Handles are short, you have your face and hands near a situation you would rather not be near and you are sloshing crap around making a huge mess.

That auger has worked every time I have ever used it, and in about 30 seconds. No huge crap mess and no close up and personal with the toilet.

Toilet clogs that home owners can clear are generally just the P trap getting clogged and this snakes them and you are done in no time.
