I agree that the Fifth Avenue is a classic design that will likely never go out of style and Allen Edmonds are good quality at the under-$500 price point.

Some cautionary notes. First, no shoe is ever BIFL, the most that you can hope for if you wear them regularly is that you will get a few years of wear, then a resole, then a couple more years of wear, then a resole. After that, the uppers are likely going to be shot and it will be time to get a new pair. Still, that's going to be a pretty good return on your initial investment.

Second, AE's quality has fallen off considerably over the last few years and your odds of receiving a new pair from the factory with some quality control issues are not small. Examine the shoes closely under good light for defects when you receive them, paying particular attention to the stitching, the inner and outer leather and the consistency of the color. AE is good about replacement with free shipping both ways, but it sure is a pain to ship shoes back and forth to Port Washington, Wisconsin.

Three, the Fifth Avenues are made on AE's 65 last (the last is the wooden form the shoe is shaped and constructed on), which is a very traditional American style silhouette. They're going to look bulbous and round if you're used to sleeker Italian looking shoes. There's also the possibility that the last will not be a good match for your foot and you will have to look at some other model or manufacturer. Johnston & Murphy Aldrich II Cap Toes will be slightly less expensive though most agree the quality is below AE. Twice a year, Brooks Brothers runs a 30% off sale applicable to shoes and you can sometimes pick up their Peal & Co. Medallion Captoes for a little over $450. Those shoes, made by Crockett & Jones in the UK are on an entirely different level of quality and style.

Fourth, the longevity of any pair of shoes is going to be exponentially improved with at least a moderate level of care. That means cedar shoe trees in the shoes when your feet are not in them. You will also need to do applications of a decent leather conditioner every few months, and yes, polishing every now and then with a cream polish. It would be ideal to follow with a wax polish to provide a protective layer but it is not mandatory. Always use a shoe horn to put the shoes on to avoid breaking the backs (called the "counter") of the shoes.

Fifth, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but all men's dress shoes are meant to be alternated with at least one other pair and worn at most every other day. The day of rest allows the moisture inside the shoe to evaporate and to give the leather a rest to maintain its shape. If you wear your shoes every day, you will be lucky to get a year's worth of wear out of them even if you do everything else right.

Last, I can't stress enough the importance of getting a good fit in the shoes you end up buying. Even the best shoes will wear quickly if your foot isn't meeting the shoe's designed stress points and pressure isn't being applied at the right place. Make sure you buy your first pair from a retailer that will take returns and wear them on carpet until you are sure you've got a good fit. Remember that good leather shoes like the Fifth Avenue will take some time to break in so slight tightness in the vamp (top of toe box) and and some slight slippage at the heel will probably go away once the sole develops some flex.

TL;DR: AE Fifth Avenues are respectable, good quality shoes but no shoes are BIFL; make sure the pair you receive is free of defects; be aware that they look conservative and alternatives are available; make sure you take care of them and make sure they fit right.

I have always used either Chelsea Leather Food or Lexol Leather Conditioner for my leather goods.

The Chelsea is really popular among soccer players for use on their cleats so it can be found in a reasonable number of sports stores that sell them for around 10 bucks. Make sure you get the clear stuff though.

The Lexol looks like a car care product but it was recommended to me for use on my riding boots and is extensively to keep horse tack from drying out and wearing down. Amazon is selling a liter of the stuff for 12 bucks. Because it is meant to soak in to the leather a bit, it may darken the JCP boots up some, so go with a few even, light coats first rather than just pouring the stuff on.

The Kiwi polish that you can find in drugstores everywhere is plenty good and is pretty cheap at around 3 bucks a tin. I am currently using some Brooks Brothers Shoe Cream which I got as a gift a bit ago and i love the stuff. It is a bit on the 'pricey' side at 9 bucks a jar so it is up to you.

As a last note, I would recommend getting some Saddle Soap for use after youve gone slogging through some less than clean streets and perhaps forgotten to clean your shoes for a bit. It is a great 'once and a while' product to get your shoes clean again and helps to make sure you arent polishing any dirt or grime into the shoe the next time you give them a shine.

For pants that don't work with belts, or aren't loose enough yet for a belt, I like these boot clips. They're actually meant to be used on the legs "stirrup" style but you can clip them to the back or sides of your waistband. They can also be used to cinch the back of sweaters / blazers / heavy tops (although there are also decorative versions available for that). (I'm having a hard time finding a picture as an example, here's the best I could come up with.) Likewise, a wide decorative elastic belt can get you more mileage out of too-large dresses and button-down shirts.

Quality clothing that's in good shape can be worth getting tailored, and it's usually no problem having something taken in. That goes for stuff you have now, of course, but it's also good to keep in mind if you see something you want to splurge on and are worried about it being too big as you lose more weight.

For a transitional wardrobe you might want to stick to cheap versatile stuff for your staples / basics. I'm not a fan of fast fashion but I've definitely hit up places like Forever 21 for things like skinny jeans, knowing they'll last a couple seasons and by the time they're done I should be done with them too. Also try to look for pieces that will "work" even after you've dropped a size or two.

Absolutely get your second-hand game on. Thrift stores, consignment shops (will be more curated and have nicer stuff, a little more expensive than thrift stores, but still cheaper than new), ebay, etc. And pay it forward, donate your "too big, never going back" stuff. H&M has a fabric recycling program for stuff that's in bad shape (torn, stained, etc) (it gets reused in insulation, so rad!).

OMG, yes. I have one pair of pants that's in striped muted greens that would go with so many of my current outfits but it's flared legs and... no. Nope. I'm actually going to take that to the tailors and see what it would cost to make it straight or tapered.

Multiple braids helps. I've found that twin French braids is fairly good for hold. It's what I use when we are headed to the pool. One day she was wearing six braids, three on each side of her head (nor French though, in not that good!). She asked for really wavy hair so I did it while wet and then she liked having them in, and I didn't take them out for two days. Yeah it looked a little silly, but she loved it, and that's what's important.

I like rope, but it can be a bit tricky to get into. It's better than cuffs or restraint because I find the act of tying to be very meditative and sensual. It's slower and more difficult than other restraining methods but to me it's more rewarding.

For just starting out I recommend going to the hardware store and picking up some cheap rope in a 40ft length. Also, safety first! Pick up a pair of EMT shears from your local drug store. They are scissors designed to slip under rope/clothing/etc without being stabbed into skin so if everything goes terribly wrong you can cut him the fuck out quickly. You'll want to switch to hemp or jute rope later on but it's harder to find and not as cheap. Looking up some how to videos on youtube using kewords of: two knotty boys, shibari, chest harness.

Take time to watch these together, look your boyfriend in the eyes and tell him forcefully, "This is practice time, not play time. Almost everything I use now is cheap and over the counter. I totally feel you on this. As much as I'd love to, I simply can't shell out an arm and a leg for a product hoping it will solve my problems. I think Amazon has a great selection of sex & BDSM stuff, but the website makes it hard to find the good stuff. I'm convinced it's designed to lure buyers to buy specific products from certain vendors, so window shopping might be difficult and lead the buyer to cheaper products.

okay first of all, are you sure you mean giardia? giardia is a parasite and is easily transmissable to other pets. there is no 'vaccine' for it. so please be sure you understand what you're dealing with.

that said, if it is giardia, what are the pills? are they Flagyl (metronizadole)? if so you may have better luck with Panacur (fenbendazole) in liquid form. it doesn't taste as bad and if your cat is a good eater you may be able to hide it in canned food.

i've bought Safeguard and used it on cats, it's the same active ingredient as Panacur.

of course administering it directly is the safest bet. when i have an unruly cats who need meds i wrap them securely in a heavy towel or blanket so they can't scratch me. then it's just a matter of getting the syringe in their mouth.

If you're comfortable figuring out doses yourself, sure. Heartguard Plus is just ivermectin (the actual heartworm killer) and pyrantel pamoate (the "plus"), both of which are readily available non-script for livestock.

(Of course, the obvious downside to going totally off-label like this is that if you kill your dog, suing the manufacturer will not get very far.)

Just get a livestock dose and subdivide it. If you go the injectable route, 0.5 and 0.3 ml insulin syringes are available at any pharmacy. (I generally use the 1/2" needles rather than the super-thin 1/3", as they're less prone to bending.)

While, in obscure cases, the nature of the carrier matters, normally it's just active ingredients. In some cases, route of administration makes a difference; typically an oral dose might be larger than injectable due to incomplete absorption.

This is some of the cheapest bulk I can find (8 fl. oz at 0.08% is 0.19g of ivermectin), and judging by the product comments and the common sale combined with 1 ml measuring syringes, it's very popularly used by dog owners.

Note that I have not done the math myself and do not vouch for the dosage table in the Amazon comments. It's probably right, but you can check it as easily as I can.

Ivermectin 1% injectable 50 ml for $28.95 is about as cheap as it gets. This much will last even a busy shelter for a very very long time.

(One I put my vet on to was using Baytril 100 orally. Enrofloxacin is very well absorbed orally, so no dose adjustment is required, and 100 ml times 100 mg/ml for $102.95 is = $10.295/g of enrofloxacin. Compare with 100 tablets times 22.7 mg/tablet for $91.95 is $40.5066/g. Or $28.375/g for the largest (136 mg) pills. And it's easier to subdivide doses, too!)

Edit: Here's some dosage advice from a reputable source: 5 mcg/kg PO monthly. They mix ivomec injectable 1% with 99 parts propylene glycol to make a 0.01% stock solution and administer that. (Propylene glycol is safe; the toxic antifreeze you're thinking of is ethylene glycol.) Here's another source.

Pyrantel pamoate is also very easy to come by if you want. It's even available OTC in human drugstores for pinworms.

for difficult tangles I use cowboy magic.

For just normal brushing when theyre a LIL tangly, but nothing serious I mostly use this one. It smells like those strawberry candies old people sometimes have. It's the go to when theyve come in from rain or snow, or when theyve had an excessive amount of fun at the dog park.

and this one is what I generally use to brush em out after a bath/towel dry cause it makes them super soft.

Biggest thing in the winter is to make sure you keep their paw pads trimmed, and any extra side fluff trimmed down to foot size. The fluffy feet are like mud sponges.

I have an older pug that slides on tile or hardwood. We have put down long runners of carpet in our house to accommodate him but when we go anywhere with these surfaces, I bring some vet wrap and use it to make little socks. I find they stay on really well as they are self sticking, and also super grippy on the floor. Just another option for your very well cared for pup : )

According to this page, rabbits should be dosed 20 mg of Fenbendazole per KG of weight. My little guy weighs about 3 pounds so I was giving close to 30 mg daily.

In order to dose the goat dewormer correctly (100 mg/ml), I needed to give him 0.3 ml of medicine daily. If you have any questions with dosing, PM me.

I noticed HUGE improvements right away. He’s relapsed a couple times into the rolling state but a day or two on the medicine helps immediately for me.

He turned 8 this month, having lived with head tilt for 5 years now.

This stuff is high-protein or something like that, and does an impressive job on skin repair, without too much softening of your callouses.

Basically, wash/dry hands well after a session, use this stuff, and you'll build up the pads and strength of the skin, quick.

This was where I got my first crop. I love it! It's held up really well to use and it freaking hurts when swung right. Or you can just lightly hit with the tip for some nice light sensations. I believe its from a legit riding/tack company. Added bonus, if you have a cat it also makes a really awesome cat toy, mine likes to drag the crop around the house.

A little late to the party but I'll throw my opinion in. Grew up on the farm and through years of using this with the dairy cows to heal chapped skin, we figured why not try it. It works awesome. Sounds weird, but trust me, the stuff works wonders on chapped, cracked or dry skin. Try it out.

It's definitely a combination of age, coat type, whether or not the dog is altered, and the lines the dog came from. My dog has a working style coat and his type is a little different than most of the Sammies I see where I live and I really like his uniqueness, texture, and the quality of his coat (some people and breeders don't, they think it's too harsh, and it's a personal preference). Butt and tail, especially the base, is really tough, tougher for me because my dog's coat is just naturally drier. I like spot conditioning those areas between baths. For really tough tangles and areas, one of my mentors recommends Cowboy Magic for use as a detangler. I have it and it's awesome. I've line combed my dog a lot recently so I've barely used it, but it basically got me through his adolescence without him squealing and chomping my arm off. A dime-sized drop goes a long way when you're trying to work out a tough spot especially in the pants and you normally do this before you wash the dog.

Many people like to use a piece of 4" pvc pipe instead of a foam roller. Wrapping it in a product like vet wrap can give it the friction needed to roll nicely.

Fenbendazole for sheep and goats is already in suspension and can be easily diluted for proper dosing since it's mostly water. You will want a feline catheter, a syringe which fits it (ask your vet, they might just throw you these for free) and a lubricant to coat the catheter before sliding it down the snake's throat, vasoline is perfect.

Be careful when doing dilution, use that old chemistry knowledge of stochiometry to do the math right. Dosages can usually be found on the internet.

I ask because I did take the Amazon Ivermectin orally once to kill the demodex internally as well. Its 100% OK for human consumption. A lot of users have reported doing this for either demodex or scabies. I was desperate and I did it. Im 100% OK and it worked in conjunction with topical application of the same product.

I wear underarmour leggings if it's going to get really cold. I'd also invest in some good, thicker jeans. You don't need to look fabulous, some durable Levi's would be great. Thermal underwear is also a godsend.

I'd also try thigh high socks. I always wear at least knee high, but in winter I have some fabulously soft thigh high ones I wear, kind of like these.

I'd also have a moisturizing body wash, and then use some lotion after showering and after riding to keep your skin from drying out. To help the rawness now, use corona. We probably use it more in our house than we do for our horses. My dad used to get rubbed bad if we rode more than 20 miles a day, and this would heal his skin overnight.

He has mange. But it can be easily treated! You can get a product on Amazon and I think Chewy and Tractor Supply called oral Ivermectin paste. I get the type made for horses.

You can google the best way to administer it but I use meatballs and inject about a little more than a pea-sized amount into each ball and leave them in a few places the fox has been seen. He only needs to find one and it will not hurt other wildlife.

Worth pointing out that if heartgard, etc. are too expensive for you, purchase some sheep drench ivermectin and dose appropriately with an oral syringe.

It will go bad before you use the entire bottle assuming a non-hoarding number of dogs. Also ivermectin has a pretty large safety window so you can dose a little on the high side with no worries. The heartworm prevention dosage is about 1/100 of what is used to treat mange.

I use Meltonian cleaner/conditioner and either Angellus or Lincoln for my wax. These aren't high end products, but they get the job done for my purposes. If you're looking for higher-end, I've read good things about Saphir and their line of products.

I too have always used baby shampoo.. for the ferrets, the dog, and the cat. For conditioner I use this stuff which is freakin' amazing.

They are great! I've been sick recently and working a lot so it's perfect for getting some energy out without a lot of work on my part. Mine is just a lunge whip with a toy tied to the end. If you have a tack shop in your area you can get one there.

I have a Sunny belt style bike, I replaced the seat, added a cadence sensor, and bought a heart rate monitor. I am looking to replace my petals with clip in ones soon but have not done it yet. In total it all has cost me about $400 (minus the future petals and shoes). I have my bike situated facing a wall with peg board and I rest my ipad on the peg board while I ride. The only down side to my set up is I have to guess on my resistance as my bike does not have a digital resistance readout.

I did recently see that Bowflex came out with a bike it costs about twice what my set up is ($899 - so still half of what a Peloton is), and it will work out of the box with Peloton with no additions needed and a few extra bonuses my bike does not have like two water bottle holders and weight racks. Hard to justify the cost when I already have a functioning set up, but if I was starting from scratch that is what I would do.

Dauber is definitely a preference. I prefer it for use in the brogueing. What you call shoe cream I call cleaner & conditioner.

As an old shoe dog I'd suggest a leather conditioner/cleaner as you would for a pair of leather shoes. This should help you a bunch

Overall, it worked relatively well and apparently has less side effects than "the other stuff." In addition to all that though, you typically want to freeze whatever you can (linen etc) for at least 24 hours, try to give the rats a bath after their meds (we couldn't do this -- they'd eat us alive), and wipe down their cage with apple cider vinegar + water -- let it soak in for a bit.

In our case, we suspected we were getting the mites from lab blocks at the pet store.
