EDIT: I'm not trying to be a salesman. I spent enough money on bands to know what works best for me. Just sharing my experience so others don't have to buy mediocre bands they end up giving away or let slowly rot in a closet.

Bodylastics stopped selling their older lines on Amazon and now only sell their military themed "warrior edition" resistance band sets there. I find that interesting, seems like once they came out with the "warrior edition" everyone just stopped buying the plain ones.
Link: https://www.amazon.com/Bodylastics-Strong-Man-Warrior-System/dp/B006O0GDMO/

EDIT 2: Those bands I linked above went out of stock, a new batch came in, and I made another order on July 5th and there were 17 left. Now it's out of stock a few days later and this time a notice saying they don't know when they will be in stock again. Here is link to Bodylastics own website where they still have them in stock for the same price:
http://www.bodylastics.com/collections/tube-resistance-bands/products/bodylastics-warrior-resistance-bands-kit

Supposedly based on feedback by military and security personnel these new sets have natural 'camo-based colors' based on dark greens and various shades of brown/tan for the bands, the handles are black and OD green instead of blue and black, the carabiners and other metal hardware are coated black instead of being shiny raw stainless. Even comes in a camo bag. It seems to be mostly advertising but the colors do look much better to my eye than the older neon band color theme, the new bag is better than the old ones I have by a long shot and the new handles are textured whereas my old ones were a soft foam around an ABS cylinder.

You can save money and get the Black Mountain resistance bands, they are not as well made on the accessories and the bands don't have the good anti-snap Bodylastics copyrighted. Very few people have BM bands snap as long as you are sensible with them anyway and BM has much heavier 45-50lb bands available. After handling them both I'd say the Bodylastics is more for your money, the better handles, anchors, and the band barrier make it way better bang for your buck. If money is tight the BM bands will do in a pinch and are functional, I'd suggest anyone to spend $12 on a set of Bodylastics handles to use with your BM bands if you go that route.

For you working out on a ship you should be fine. Fits in a fairly small bag, not heavy, and you can get a good workout as long as you can get something like a ~5ftx5ft space near an anchor point. I've been in cramped conditions before. Actually can make it easier, lots of places to anchor the bands. The ankle straps I end up using as anchors occasionally, just wrap them around a solid leg of say a bunk bed or part of a metal storage rack. The larger Bodylastics set has a band barrier with it, those are $12 or so alone and that thing does it's job well. It allows you to wrap bands around rough stuff like timber posts or stand on them for curls and overhead presses without damaging the bands.

Medicine balls: I used two med balls when I did P90X2 -- one for each hand. Both are the 8-pound versions of these. You could use up to 4 but that was way more money than I wanted to spend. When you use them, you're usually balancing on them anyway so the weight of the ball isn't much of an issue. I don't recall whether there were any exercises done with using them as actual weights...

Foam roller: I bought this one in 36" full round. Worked just fine.

I used X2 as a way to just become more fit in general. I lost about 15 pounds and gained some muscle for sure, but I didn't get massive -- I got bigger but it was more in a slim and fit-looking way if you know what I mean. I looked at the Body Beast stuff but couldn't stand the bro vibe.

P90X3 requires less equipment than X2 (no med balls, no foam roller), but does require a good range of dumbbells and I can recommend that program as well for all-around improvement. I am 2 days away from starting the third block of X3. It's challenging but fun. Shorter workouts does NOT mean easier in this case. Very few breaks and they are miniscule. A friend of mine did P90X and is now in love with X3 because of the massive time savings it provided.

Good luck!

Here's the details on the stuff:

Power Rack. Had this about 6 weeks and I'm extremely happy with it. Looks fine, feels very sturdy, no feeling of tipping or instability even when I hang from the bar at front. Paint scratches when you move and insert the spotter bars but what do you want for $350 shipped. It's held 215 on multiple occasions with no issues. If you lift significantly heavier than this (300+) you may want to read reviews first, or invest in a less-starter rack, but for many/most people this will be fine forever. It's dead easy to assemble if you have a socket set and if you don't, great opportunity to get one, they're cheap! Assembly can be done mostly solo but the final bits really need a second person to hold stuff in place while bolts are inserted. Rack comes shipped in 2 or 3 (can't remember) boxes which are pretty unwieldy and heavy.

I went with this CAP barbell. This suits my needs very well with great knurling and came without bend, and I'm unlikely to put a bend in it with my sub-300 deadlifts. The barbell ships in a fun 7 foot cylindrical tube which caused the dude at the mail place to nearly topple over because he expected it to be light for some reason.

I also got this plate tree which holds 2x 45# bumpers, 2x 45# plates, and 2x 25#, 2x 10#, 4x 5#, and 2x 2.5#. Does the trick but paint scratches off the pegs like crazy but is easily cleaned up. Single box, about 30 pounds.

The bench is this one by Marcy. I wanted a simple bench and that's what I got. Great bench for the price and I haven't had any instability problems. Had this for a year and used up to 70# dumbbells and 215# barbell with it (I'm 215). Most weight total that's been on it was a 270# friend benching 185# for sets and he found it fine.

Assorted stuff: got these puzzle mats which do the trick for the right price and are stowable unlike a permanent mat. As I mentioned elsewhere the 45# bumpers are meant to mitigate any floor impact, and I'm not terribly concerned with keeping this floor perfect anyway (it's 10 year old laminate on top of concrete, and the "path" is linoleum). The plates were from a sale at the local FitnessDerp store (not its real name) and were 85 cents a pound -- I never saw any on Craigslist for less than that in the month I looked. Finally just some collars.

The cat in the picture highly recommends this crinkle tunnel.

The rest is just using assistive technology to limit physical computer use.

E.g. speech recognition, contact-less controls, eye tracking.

Speech recognition

I use Dragon NaturallySpeaking.

Free speech recognition is also coming to Google Docs.

For dictation, I see Google dictation recognition recognize some of the most obscure terms that I try to throw at it.

I suppose that free speech recognition on the leading search engine, and without needing a powerful local processor = more users to submit their voice samples, and correction data.

Contact-less controls:

Touch+ (formerly known as the Haptix KickStarter) just started shipping, and you can turn any surface, including your keyboard, into a 3-D, virtual, multitouch surface.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v_bo1m7kXgQ

Touch (on a virtual element, or the keyboard) can be faster than the mouse - Jump VNC Android app

Any time that you can use touch (on a virtual element, or the keyboard) instead of the mouse, you can work faster.

I sometimes use the Jump VNC Android app to make my Nexus 10 as the keyboard, and remote into my desktop computer.

Therefore, I have a tiny bit of experience with interacting with my desktop from a touch interface because of using a VNC program.

As you can imagine, interacting can be more difficult because the Nexus 10 screen size is relatively small, and I’m using touch to indirectly touch a desktop that has a non-touch UI.

However, when you are able to touch, it’s faster than using a mouse.

Eye tracking:

https://theeyetribe.com/

An external Eye Tribe eye-tracker costs $99, but smartphones, tablets, notebooks, and laptops already have built-in cameras.

If manufacturers make some small modifications, such as adding an upgraded sensor, enabling eye-tracking is supposed to only add $5 to the manufacturing costs.

E.g. Eye-tracking (for initial warping/teleporting of cursor, and large cursor movements) + game controller (for precise cursor movements, finishing with an accurate placement, and clicking

In the eye-tracking subreddit (http://www.reddit.com/r/EyeTracking), there’s a video of a redditor controlling the desktop, and surfing Reddit with an eye tracker and a game controller (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2IjTZcbXYQY).

Eye gaze is for initial, instant, and possibly large cursor movements, and then the joystick of the controller overrides the gaze-control to offer an accurate selection of the target.

The controller buttons are for clicking.

---
E.g. Eye-tracking pointer motion teleport + mouse: eye-tracking for initial warping/teleporting of cursor, then use precision of mouse to finish selection – research paper on benefits of initially warping cursor

Similar to the game controller example, eye tracking can be used to initially teleport a mouse-controlled cursor near an intended target.

Once there, the mouse can override eye-control when precision is needed.

A paper called “Mouse and Keyboard Cursor Warping to Accelerate and Reduce the Effort of Routine HCI Input Tasks” evaluates how initially teleporting the cursor with eye tracking in other common human computer interaction can affect the interaction.

The authors have a video demonstration.

A segment of the video has a task that requires the user to click “click-me” buttons that are generated in random locations as fast as possible.

A competition pits a mouse vs. an eye tracker + mouse.

You can see the performance of the eye-tracking warping + mouse at 2:41 of the video: http://youtu.be/7BhqRsIlROA?t=2m41s.

“Mouse control + eye-tracking teleport” ends up being the clear winner.

---

It’s not “mouse + keyboard” vs. “eye tracker + keyboard”– it’s “mouse + eye-tracking teleport + keyboard” or “eye tracker + keyboard” – that is, eye-tracking is always there

Eye-tracking +keyboard: Eye-Tracking doesn’t have the precision of a mouse, but if an interface element and hit state is large enough, a “click-where-I’m-looking at” keyboard button will work.

Eye tracking two-step-selection process + keyboard : there are eye tracking features that allow an eye controlled cursor to snap, zoom, etc. to a smaller target element, or make smaller elements project into large elements.

Sometimes it’s a two-step process, so even if you have the ability to instantly teleport the cursor, “both-hands-on-keyboard + eye-tracking two-step process” may not be suitable in certain situations.

Eye tracking teleport + mouse and keyboard: However, whenever you need the mouse, eye-tracking will still be there to provide an initial cursor teleport.

Without eye-tracking: If you have both hands on the keyboard, you lose time switching one hand to the mouse, and bringing the hand back to the keyboard.

You’re usually choosing between both hands on the keyboard, or one hand on the mouse.

With eye-tracking: With eye tracking, it can be used either with both hands on the keyboard (click-what-I’m-looking-at keyboard button), or one on the mouse (initial cursor teleport, then use the mouse).

You never have to forgo something to use eye-tracking; it’s always ready to make normal computer interaction faster.

Playing Hearthstone with an eye tracker

All that he’s using is his eyes and 1 button.

Autologous Tenocyte Injection - take tendon cells from healthy area, grow the tendon cells, and inject them into injured area

> A paper on using autologous tenocyte injection for the treatment of severe, chronic resistant lateral epicondylitis was published in the American Journal of Sports Medicine on September 2013.
>
> A patellar tendon needle biopsy was performed under local anesthetic, and tendon cells were expanded by in vitro culture.

Tenocytes used for the injection were characterized by flow cytometry (sort and purify) and real-time polymerase chain reaction (amplify).

> Autologous tenocytes were injected into the site of tendinopathy identified at the origin of the extensor carpi radialis brevis tendon under ultrasound guidance on a single occasion.
>
> In this study, patients with chronic LE who had previously undergone an unsuccessful full course of nonoperative treatment showed significantly improved clinical function and structural repair at the origin of the common extensor tendon after ATI. (2)

Pau Gasol of the Los Angeles Lakers has tendinosis (chronic tendinitis) in knees - receives stem cell injections

Pau Gasol did a stem cell treatment for his patellar tendinosis.

>Los Angeles Lakers forward Pau Gasol underwent a procedure Thursday to address the tendinosis in both of his knees.

>The procedure, known as the FAST (Focused Aspiration of Scar Tissue) technique, involves a probe being inserted into the knee that "directs ultrasonic energy to eliminate scar tissue without damaging healthy tissue," according to a team release.

>“Gasol also will receive stem cell injections next week and is expected to make a full recovery, the Lakers said.”.

>
>"It's more than tendinitis, it's tendinosis," Gasol said. "There's a degeneration of the tissue, and it's something that I've dealt with all year. So I'll have to do something to regenerate the tissue so I don't have to play with this pain.".

Allogenic adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (ALLO-ASC) - stem cells from fat

> As of November 2013, researchers at the Seoul National University Hospital will be looking to recruit participants into a clinical trial to evaluate the efficacy of allogenic adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (ALLO-ASC) in treatment of a tendon injury (symptom duration is over six months).

> ALLO-ASC will be administrated to the patients with lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow) by ultrasonographic guided injection. (1)

As I understand, this involves adult stem cells from fat.

Race horses, and iPSCs for horse tendon injuries

I think that they are experimenting, and have experimented with induced pluripotent stem cells with race horses. (3)

They get something called “bowed tendon”, which is their name for tendinosis.

I hate my local gym(s). So. Damn. Much. I know it's just me. I'm impatient, intolerant, and generally just can't stand the douchers everywhere. So, I finally finished up my garage gym. It's not pretty, but it works. I just need a few more plates, and a really good deal on a row machine (and to clean up the other half of the garage).

Contouring can definitely make for a more masculine face, but if people can tell that you're wearing makeup, you're not going to pass. Period. Now, passing isn't the be-all, end-all for most genderfluid or genderqueer individuals and if it's not for you, then that's great, go for it! You'll look androgynous and awesome. But people will read you as female. If you want to pass, people need to not be able to tell you're wearing makeup. For binding, if you don't have the money/ aren't fully committed to binding yet, I have had great success binding with [this] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005VRLT6Q/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1).

u/Monkey_Fists · 1 pointr/P90X

I can't speak to having a knee injury, but I can recommend med balls. I got a set of these at Dick's Sporting Goods. They are often Buy One Get 2nd for 50% off, but 25% each is comparable. The grips on them are excellent. I got 4 thru 12lbs, but they don't make the 4lb ones anymore. They smelled at first, but were fine after wiping down with soapy water.

If from Amazon, these are the ones Tony Horton has in his own home gym. I'd say that's a pretty good endorsement.

u/T-Flexercise · 1 pointr/xxfitness

You should definitely see a doctor or a physical therapist, because they might be more help for your specific grip issue. But in the meantime, buy some straps!

Youtube videos will probably be better than a description, but you basically just wear the straps around your wrist at one end, and then loop them around the weight a few times before you grab it. That way, the weight is basically hanging off the wrist, and requires only a very little strength to keep the strap from unravelling. They take grip strength almost entirely out of the equation.

I'd recommend against using them for everything all the time because it will cause you to stop working on your grip strength, but a great way to do it is to lift with normal grip until your grip starts to fail (or you start to feel numbness or pain), then put on the straps and lift more weight without working your grip! It can keep you making progress in the gym without feeling like your grip is holding you back.

u/NowKissPlease · 1 pointr/bodyweightfitness

Amazing! Thank you so much for commenting this is really, really helpful. I was actually looking at wrist braces last night and saw these ones recommended by some trainers!
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B010116LPU/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?smid=A16NBD6W1KJM1H&psc=1

I will definitely do those soft stretches after cardio. What a good idea.

Thanks again!!

u/Belqin · 2 pointsr/papercraft

Yes they are usually coated in resin, usually with fibreglass strips on the inside for strength, they can then be painted and everything. I am in various stages of completion currently in making 4 skyrim helmets, skyrim steel sword and gun from halo. With props like weapons/guns/swords, you can resin the outside with a couple coats, then injection foam the inside and they actually turn out very durable and I'm really happy with my success doing that.

For more information on these and other processes, I can't recommend the 405th boards enough, they have more information than you could ever want on everything involved with pepakura costume making and beyond.

A popular choice alternative for halo armour (and mass effect etc) is to use EVA foam mats (they're flat on one side, 'diamond plate' on the other, and way cheaper than this (~$12) for 4 2'x2' mats). You cut out the patterns from them and glue them together very similarly to the way you do with paper in papercraft, except the 'paper' you're using is more 3 dimensional and there's no tabs to glue, just edges that you've cut accordingly. Some people then rubber coat them with plastidip although the EVA foam itself lends great durability to the builds.

I should mention that I also do scapula push-ups. In fact, I pretty much follow the Diesel Crew Shoulder Rehab Protocol. I do one of the 'circuits' after each workout. Band work is done every day since it's easy to just get up from the desk and do some pull-a-parts and dislocates. Face pulls require a door hook or something which isn't always on-hand.

Shoulder Rehab: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A0ONHZmsFec

Band Face Pulls with External Rotation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5edR9tvkctE

Edit: And here's an unsolicited product recommendation. I've found the bands from 'Draper's Strength' to be of great quality and far cheaper than the 'big name' bands from Rogue, Elite FTS, etc. I would not recommend a band with handles, the big loop band is for more versatile and easier to use. Generally you have to search for 'pull up assist band' to find the big loop bands instead of the dual-handle resistance bands.

Example Band: http://www.amazon.com/Drapers-Strength-Red-41/dp/B00C35A9LU/ref=sr_1_30?ie=UTF8&qid=1411774524&sr=8-30

I've been working out at home since 2013, and have collected most of what I need to workout. The only thing I'm missing is a rack, due to space concerns. Everything I have fits in my closet space. I have the following equipment:

  • Powerblock Travel Bench - legs fold and lock on pins, it slides under my bed or in the closet
  • Ab Roller - any cheap ab roller will do.
  • Folding yoga mat - I pull this out for deadlifting and when ab rolling to give my knees a break from wood flooring and carpet. Again, any mat will do
  • Standard barbell - mine holds... 250 lbs I think? Not a ton, but it works, and deadlift is probably the only lift I can even approach that kind of weight. More would be nice, but for that I'll need to start over with olympic gear.
  • Dumbbells
  • Around 200 lbs of standard plates in 25, 10, 5, and 2.5 lbs increments
  • Foam Roller (18 inch model will do, I have 18" and 36" black), lacrosse balls, and Body Back Buddy - for trigger point therapy.
  • Lifeline Power up Chin-up straps - I don't have any door frames that will support a pull up bar, and live in an apartment so don't want to damage the frames by mounting a permanent bar. These flip over a door and will support pullups, chin-ups, leg lifts, etc, and will work on any three-hinge door.

Granted, you can't get all of these things on your budget, but I'd recommend a pull up bar (or the straps if your doorframe won't support it), some dumbbells (you can buy a 40 lbs set for around $40 in most stores), an 18" foam roller and lacrosse ball, and get some extra plates over time with the excess to get you started (only buy the extra plates when you cap out the 40 lbs, and only if you're going to continue exercising).

Yeah I play most games seated these days. But when I do plan to stand for an extended period I use a anti-fatigue floor mat to let me know where I am (I usually turn Guardian off) and to keep my feet comfy.

Something like this:

Good god that's a long link... Anyway not that particular one, that's just an example, I shopped around for a set that was 1" thick instead of 1/2" like most of them listed on amazon. I have some 1/2 laying around that I already had and its ok but really thicker is more comfortable. Only problem is I get so worked up playing beat saber that sometime I start pulling the puzzle pieces apart, so maybe something that is one solid piece would really be better.

Some of the best value wrist wraps I’ve used so far:

Stiff, thick, hold their shape well, very supportive, and pretty cheap compared to the FitSpo-branded alternatives. The 18-inch version is all you really need, even though you can get double-length to create a soft cast for your wrist if necessary.

I know some gyms, like Chikara Crossfit, who use padded mats since they can't drop the weights. Don't quote me, but it's something to do with being in a basement or having windows for walls. I do not remember what I heard.

Anyways, doing a easy google search for the keywords "padded mats" gave me this first link to amazon for a 24"x24"x5" for $29.

I love this contest idea! I need to get my butt in shape. Help me get to a healthier me!

I've been eyeing these resistance bands. I took a pilates class in college and it was great. I've been crazy lazy since. Exercise wise. Life post college is hard. But I know these really increase the work you do with pilates, and would double as stress relief. Think of the butt pics I could take if I had a butt!

The best compact piece of equipment I've ever used would have to be the Total Gym. I LOVE that thing. There's almost nothing you can't do with it. Lightweight, portable, and doesn't take up much room at all. It uses your own body weight for everything, is easily adjustable, and has the option to add extra weight once body weight alone isn't enough.

Total Gym + Resistance Bands + Yoga Ball + Suspension Trainers = Budget-friendly, compact, highly effective home gym.

I was a former College Strength and Conditioning Coach and we really wanted to ensure we bought high quality bands that would last with heavy daily usage from our athletes. For the big movements like chest pressing, rowing or rotational work we opted for these- http://www.performbetter.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product2_10151_10751_1004162_-1_1000352_1000281_1000281_ProductDisplayErrorView

I started with resistance tubes and bands from amazon, and noticed a massive difference in a year’s time. Make sure your tubes come with a door attachment since that makes it easier to mimic certain cable-machine moves. Also, I already had a pair of 10lb dumbbells and a 20lb kettlebell and used those for variety. Something you might consider.

Tube set: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01GCA4BJC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_Q-oJDb75SZE1Q

Something that I did when my strength was progressing was double up on tubes for certain exercises.

Food for thought - if you want to get “toned”, even at 5’2”, 1,200 calories and less is usually not enough.

My bike and fluid trainer sit ontop of a fold-up exercise mat. It's the perfect size, and it has handles which makes it easy for me to slide it over to wherever i want (i.e., in front of the TV).

http://imgur.com/a/guLlW

I've used that set up in the winters and then mostly year round (moved to an area I'm not comfortable riding in) for a few years. Used it on wood floors and carpet, and it's been perfect on both. And during the time that I had it in my living room, it made it very easy to move it out of sight for a bit if necessary without taking the bike off of the trainer and what not.

Something like this, except I paid less than $30 for it I think:

Yeah, the volume seems pretty high. Three days of that should help a lot with making gains. Otherwise, maybe squeeze in a couple of quick workouts at home?

You should also check into buying some cheap gear, like bands or a weight vest to supplement your workout. I wrote this up for someone a while back:

Here’s what I would recommend for starting home training balancing cost and utility. Obviously, if you afford all of it and have the space, just do that.

1-pullup bar or rings

2-resistance bands

3-dumbbells (shop for used, if possible, if space is tight try these)

4-adjustable bench (same, used benches go for as low as $30)

5-barbell set (time to start deadlifting)

6-power rack (don’t go cheap here)

u/chrisimplicity · 1 pointr/bicycling

What do you plan to use for viewing? I use a laptop with a USB ANT+ sensor to a TV via HDMI and it’s pretty awesome. Only other things would be a mat (I use this cheap one) and a towel. Pretty sure your trainer will do anything else.

u/PensandPlants · 1 pointr/knitting

There are a lot of options on Amazon, ranging from children's playmats (which many people review as blocking mats!) to exercise mats. I bought this set because the Add-On price was great. So far, they have been performing great! For what it's worth, I don't even use a towel, and I have had no dyes transferring.

If you want to look at something else, many exercise foam mats pieces are all black like this. But many of these are textured.

Overall, I would say just find some foam puzzle play mats you're happy with! I thought about getting actually branded blocking mats but find nothing lacking with the foam puzzle play mats! Unless, of course, you really like the grid on mats specifically made for blocking.

u/ladafi · 1 pointr/bodyweightfitness

They are fantastic. You can get sets with different weight amounts. I'm an aerial dancer, so we use them a lot to build up our different muscle groups and warm up before throwing our entire body weight up and around a pole.

These are pretty good if you want to shell out the $20 for a whole set--and they come with door anchors and handles (instead of just tying knots in them, etc): https://www.amazon.com/Tribe-Premium-Resistance-Bands-Workout/dp/B01IL6A0I6/ref=sr_1_6?s=exercise-and-fitness&ie=UTF8&qid=1540519076&sr=1-6&keywords=resistance+bands

Cheapest solution is usually going to be rings.

That makes Rows easy to handle, however ring dips are kinda hard, because they add the need for core stability on the rings.

Well, the simplest solution for that is one of these., either the purple or the green one. With those rubber bands you can do this: http://www.kingofthegym.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/band-assisted-dips.jpg (Only with rings) To make the dips assisted in the beginning.

Generally I would aim for 15 assissted dips, before you should comfortably be able to do 3 or more without the band.

u/DevilBomb76 · 1 pointr/homegym

The red band is good for pull aparts, I'd think the rest would be too heavy.

Here's the set I have: LINK
It has the smaller yellow band that's perfect for lighter rehab/prehab stuff.
It comes with handles but I wouldn't recommend using them. Too much risk of cutting the bands with the caribiner.
Still going strong after a year+ of use.

Also, I'd recommend getting the set. For under $40 you get 5 bands and I guarantee you'll find uses for the other sizes

u/ongew · 2 pointsr/overcominggravity

Yeah, ok, Tacfit sounds good since your goals are: 1) to move better, 2) to support your parkour practice.

You're probably already past this point, but I'd like to mention that CC is not good for building strength. The progression requirements (e.g. 2x20 uneven pushups) are unnecessarily high. I would work with lower reps (5x5, and if possible, microload), which is probably my only regret doing CC.

Regarding how to combine it all, well, the bodyweight Tacfit programs involve a LOT of pushing. You might want to get 'Tacfit ROPE' and combine that with /u/Antranik's [bedsheet method] (https://www.reddit.com/r/bodyweightfitness/comments/5nd91p/rows_are_an_excellent_exercise_for_improving_your/) or the semi-portable jungle gym. When I did a modified version of Tacfit Warrior, I always substituted in Double Rows (Tabletop rows) for shoulder balance.

I think the best way to integrate it is to decide two things:

  1. 4 day wave or 7 day wave? 4 Day wave would be: No - Low - Med (OG) - High (Tacfit)

  2. If 7 Day wave, is Tacfit or gymnastic strength more important?

    If gymnastic strength, probably:
No - Low - Med (OG) - No - Low - Med (OG) - High (Tacfit)

    If Tacfit, probably:
No - Low - Med (Tacfit) - No - Low - Med (OG) - High (Tacfit)

As you should expect, cocktailing the training programs will lead to slower progression in both.

Why I changed over to purely OG was because strength takes a lot of time to develop (6-24 months?). Muscular endurance and cardio take less time (I think 2-4 months), so I decided to make space in my schedule for OG and if I ever need to build back my cardio again, I'll swap in a training cycle of Tacfit.

I'm wondering if bands like this: http://www.amazon.com/Aylio-Fitness-Exercise-Anchor-Medium/dp/B0026PMD70/ would fit the bill? Or is the quality/type of bands from Rogue worth paying more?

u/SaveFerris211 · 3 pointsr/xxfitness

Well, pull ups are a great way to build upper body strength! My favorite yoga instructor has mentioned in the past that it doesn't matter if you can lift a weight bigger than your face, if you can barely lift your legs off the ground :)
Here is a link to the set I bought: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0026PMD70/ref=cm_sw_r_udp_awd_9m7gtb1J8YBKY (sorry for the ugly link, I'm on mobile) these are actually just bands, not loops, because I messed up when I ordered. Oops. But I just tied the ends together and it works fine. And they do stretch A LOT.
If you need additional help at first, loop two of the bands over the bar and hook one leg into each. A little cumbersome, but it works. (Easier to get into if you have a spotter / workout buddy, though.)
Of my $20 set, I did break one band (that was a day for Fail Friday indeed. It was embarrassing.) but they hold up surprisingly well with constant use. I used it for a long time before it broke.
Hope this helps!

(I had found a shorter one- the longer size was for being able to have some mat between two adjacent desks.)
It had a couple spots of damage upon arrival, but for the price, and the spots where they are, I think I'll tolerate it/not do the return.
Anyway, it's working like a charm, no more unintentional rolling! I can't just push easily and roll, of course, I have to get up a little bit and push to move away, but it's very worth it so far.

I should note that I only use them when on the road as I have weights at home. They are strong substitute for pull ups as far as bands go, because you can combine several bands to really increase tension. However, they are a pain in the butt to use as weight substitutes because there is only one pair of handles that must be disconnected and connected every time you want to change the resistance band. I'd recommend spending more on a set that has permanent handles on every band. It will save you time and hassle.

you are young enough to where that skin could stretch down potentially. You lost alot of weight pretty quickly, and you can try this cheap workaround to the loose skin. If after about 3- 6 months theres no improvement, along with your bulk, then adding muscle may be your only option next to surgery. Rub alot of cocoa butter on the skin as well and keep it moistorized along with drinking alot of water to help the elasticity.

People who have experience with using bands as accommodating resistance:

  • How much resistance do bands contribute at the lighter end of the exercise? For example, if a band is rated for 5-35 lbs of resistance, is the band stretched further than the 5 lb minimum at the lightest part of the lift? I imagine that this varies depending on setup and specific exercise, but what are your experiences?

  • Could bands be used for accommodating resistance during weighted pullups (in a band-assisted manner)? If so, would this be a good way to overload the upper portion of a pullup?

  • Do these look like good bands? Is there something that I should be looking for when picking them out?

I like these resistance bands. I'll take them to work, the park or wherever. You can double them up for more resistance or you can also use them in conjunction with a weight bar. I like these suspension/body weight bands too. There is a pull up bar at the park that I can hook them to. I've never used them at the house though.

My box also sells these rogue ropes for $10/each:

both ropes worked really well, so in terms of bang for buck, @$10/each I think that's a pretty good bang/buck. I now currently use an RPM speed rope 3.0 it's a great rope but I wouldn't say has as much bang/buck as the lower price ones.

If you want your feet to firmly touch the ground, bench height will matter. Many adjustable benches are taller than standard. 17" to top of pad seems to be the standard, so look for something that height or lower. This one is recommended a lot and is 17.5" but out of stock:

I've used bands for one purpose or another ever since 1996 and not only have I never had this happen to me, I've never heard of it. I'm sure that if you look hard enough, you'll find someone it's happened to, but the instances are few and far between - particularly if you use bands from a reputable company.

For the record, these days I like these. To my knowledge, you can't beat the price/quality ratio.

u/mr-underhill · 12 pointsr/Fitness

If you are able to purchase them, I'd recommend resistance bands. They're not too expensive (Set on Amazon), and can simulate certain weight lift exercises. And since its bands you're not lugging heavy (and loud)

u/phatphoeater · 1 pointr/bodyweightfitness

I'm using a red looped band that I use for scap mobility/prehab. I just bend it in half over and over again until it's about 6 inches end to end and about as thick as that bar. It's not as pretty but I get the burn. When that gets too easy, I can purchase the next higher resistance band.

When I ordered it a week ago it was Prime eligible. Looks like it's not anymore... right now anyway.

I got a 300 lb olympic weight set from Dick's for $209.99 (local store). The stand is also from Dick's. Bought a few random weights (5-10 lbs, small ones) from Dick's while I was there.

The mats are these:http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0041FQZMW/

EZ curl bar: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004X168VW/ref=oh_details_o01_s02_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Generic rubber handled spring barbell clips have an Amazon ship weight of 1.1 lbs. You could just use two sets of clips on each side, which would be 2.2 lbs. If you have to work 16 hours a day, then there is probably nothing you can do. But if you have a normal 8/9 hour workday most of the time, then you can do it!

Personally, I need to exercise first thing in the morning. Too many variables exist in the evening that prevents working out consistently.

I bought a basic stationary bike. Cheaper than an annual gym membership. It doesn't take up much space (I had mine in a 550 sq/ft apartment) and reduces the 10+ minutes it takes to go to a gym (one less barrier to exercising). You have no excuse not to find 30 minutes in your day for moderately intense biking. I watch my T.V. on the bike (efficient!).

If you want to add some basic resistance training, I do resistance bands. The same thing as the bike, you can do it at home and it takes up no space and costs way less than the gym.

Making the habit is key. Being able to work out at home and doing so first thing in the morning were the two changes I made that let me work out regularly with a 50 hour a week schedule while maintaining a balanced quality of life.

Here's an easy one for you.

I was a gymnast so i have plenty of them lying around.. but if you can find a pair of old Velcro grips for High Bar or rings. Simply cut off the part that goes over your hand/palm so all that's left is the wrist part. Just keep those tight around your wrists when you're doing handstands etc. I have terrible wrists from years of pommels and pbars.. this is pretty much the only way I can get a full workout in, otherwise my wrists kill me within 10 minutes of starting a workout.

If you can't get any of those, just buy a pair of these.. http://www.amazon.com/Grizzly-Fitness-Power-Training-Wrist/dp/B0030FY0GM/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1405536776&sr=8-7&keywords=wrist+support or something similar.
