Your skin is very sensitive and you should never use scrubs or vinegar, they only act as irritants will make your skin irritated and flare up with more acne.

With combination skin this means you are both dry and dehydrated. Basically this means that you need to moisturize the fuck out of your skin.

Don't go anywhere near anything with alcohol in it as that is going to act as an irritant as well. Rehabilitating your skin needs to be handled gently and will take a bit of time but trust me, the patience is worth it.

You want to start out with a gentle cleanser and a gentle, hydrating moisturizer. Cetaphil products have alcohol in them and will only harm your skin.

Try the CeraVe Hydrating Facial Cleanser, or Cosrx Low PH Good Morning Gel Cleanser (you can use it any time). My preference is for the Cosrx as it has some tea tree in it that is super soothing for the skin. Both can be found on Amazon and depending where you are, you may be able to find CeraVe in a drug or grocery store.

For a moisturizer I would definitely check out the Cosrx Oil Free Ultra Moisturizing Lotion with Birch Sap for the mornings and the Hada Labo Gokujyun Super Hyaluronic Acid Hydrating Lotion for night. The Cosrx is going to keep you hydrated during the day without feeling heavy on the skin which is perfect if you're using makeup. The Hado Labo is basically the best thing on the planet for anyone. It's great for all skin types and the addition of the hyaluronic acid is great for trapping moisture in your skin overnight and it helps with anti-aging. Both can be found on Amazon.

If you're wearing makeup you need to find a good cleanser that isn't going to strip you of the natural oils you need or be too rough on your skin. Oil cleansing with Jojoba oil is good, but I really think you should look into using Rice Water. It's super gentle and takes the makeup off without stripping your skin and won't leave you feeling dry and tight. Some people like to cleanse with the oil and just wipe everything off, but I like to gently cleanse to make sure I'm getting all the oils, make up, and general dirt that accumulates on your skin throughout the day.

There are other steps and products you can add that will help but this is a good starting point.

Please check out Renee a.k.a. Gothamista on Youtube. She discusses products that are best in each category, and most importantly what's best for each skin type. My skin has been absolutely perfect ever since finding her:

  • Oil Cleanser (Nighttime Only): Innisfree Apple Juicy Cleansing Oil $17.99; oil cleanser helps to melt off makeup and sunscreen and emulsifies with water for a clean finish. Note: You don't have to use a special oil cleanser, you can also use grapeseed oil, additive-free mineral oil, jojoba oil, or olive oil, just be aware you will typically require a second cleanse to completely remove the oil from your face. I personally use neem oil which is antimicrobial and antifungal because of adult acne, but it is a drying face oil.

  • Cleanser: CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser $11-17; has ceramides, glycerin, and hyaluronic acid. Has the appropriate 4.5 pH necessary for cleansers.

  • Serum: OST Pure Vitamin C Serum $18.49; will help with evening and brightening skin tone, complexion clarity, and anti-aging -- requires long-term consistent use to see max benefit.

  • Hydrating Toner: Rohto Hadalabo Gokujyn Hyaluronic Acid Lotion (Moist) $17.54; contains hyaluronic acid and other hyaluronates, helps to lock liquid in skin, try to apply to slightly damp skin to max benefit. The HA needs moisture to grab onto and some people experience drying if they apply a product with high HA on dry skin.

  • Hydrating Serum: Benton Snail Bee High Content Essence $17; contains snail secretion filtrate, aloe, glycerin, arbutin, naturally derived salicylic acid, and azelaic acid (review here for more info on ingredients}, helps with wound healing, redness, lightning PIH, and soothing inflammation.

  • Face Oil: Pura d'or 100% Pure & USDA Organic Argan Oil $19.99; high in fatty acids which helps moisturize and soothe irritated and dry skin, optional vendor: Garden of Wisdom. Note: A good face oil is a trial and error thing, you may prefer: avocado oil, passionfruit seed oil, rosehip seed oil, etc. Certain oils are more drying, others are richer and more moisturizing. You may have to engage in some research and experimentation to find which is right for you and most can be found for under $20 if you look.

  • Emulsion/Milk (Daytime Only): Hada-Labo Shirojyun Arbutin Milk $16.35; High hyaluronic acid and glycerin content, is slightly richer than the toner previously listed and can be used as a daytime moisturizer underneath your sunscreen. Arbutin is a skin-lightening ingredient that evens skin tone and fades PIH, but you can get Rohto Hada-Labo Gokujun Hyaluronic Acid Milk $15.86; which is the same thing but without the arbutin.

  • Sunscreen (Daytime Only): Up to you, one of the trickier products out there and I assume you have something you like already. Asian sunscreens tend to have a better cosmetic finish but rely on chemical sunscreen ingredients. I personally use EltaMD UV Lotion Broad-Spectrum SPF 30+ which is marketed for body but has the same ingredients as EltaMD's facial sunscreen.

  • Moisturizing Cream (Nighttime Only): Benton Snail Bee High Content Steam Cream $17.00; Contains snail secretion filtrate, peptides, fatty acid rich oils, and niacinamide to help moisturize, prevent water loss, and encourage wound-healing. One of the richest face creams I've personally tried with good ingredients for the price. For details on the ingredients, see here. Remember if your T-zone is oily, you don't have to apply it there!

Option 2: EltaMD PM Therapy Moisturizer $22.13; high in niacinamide and linoleic acid to help restore skin's moisture. May need the aid of an occlusive like Vaseline or a sleeping pack (see below).

  • Special - Sleeping Pack: Option 1 Mizon Multi Function Formula Snail Wrinkle Care Sleeping Pack $14.98; Option 2 Etude House Moistfull Collagen Sleeping Pack $15.96; Option 3 Laneige Water Sleeping Pack EX $33.99; Sleeping packs are extra rich creams which go on top of all your other skin care at night to give you an extra boost in moisture. Similar to people putting a thin layer of Vaseline on at night, you put a thin layer of the sleeping pack on and sleep with it over night 2-3 times a week as needed. They're more of an extra thing, not an every day thing, much like a face mask.

That is an example of a moisturizing and non-irritating East Asian skincare routine using products that are all $20 or under each (barring a couple options), each with good hydrating and anti-inflammatory actives. Almost all are available through Amazon or through a singular vendor like W2Beauty which usually has coupon codes and can combine shipping. Target will carry the Laneige line in stores, but it is more a mid-price range. I can't personally guarantee they'll work for you, but the starting points are all there for you to do the research yourself if need be.

I'm glad i was able to inspire you!

My go to products:

Cleansers/removers:
I have weird cimbo skin too if i treat my acne i get red and weird. If i moisturize i get acne.
I have found that alternating between st. Ives blemish control apricot scrub and garnier's moisture rescue cleansing foam keeps my skin from getting oily or acne ridden.

Makeup remover:
I love love love almay's oil free makeup remover pads.

Moisturizer: garnier moisture rescue for normal to combo. It is super moisurizing, smells nice and is cheap. Its also a dupe for clinique's moisture surge moisturizer.

Lip balm:
I love nivea's lip balm tubes specifically their kiss of vitamin swirl. It keeps my lips moisturized and applied over lip products it gives a glossy sheen that is long lasting, not drying and not sticky!

I also use soft lips- any of the clear ones as a sort of primer for preventing lip products from drying out.

Brushes: i don't know if you have a Meijer by you, but i have the Studio M brush line set and it is similar to EcoTools in quality but much cheaper. I love them! As far as i know they are only available at Meijer though.

Primers:
For eyeshadow i like to use elf's studio primer, but if you can afford it, go with urban decay's. And for my face i use loreal's magic perfecting base. I find that it fills my pores and keeps me from getting oily throughout the day.

Face:
I love loreal's true match collection! I have a really hard time finding face makeup as well and discovering this line was revolutionary. I use their concealer and liquid foundation currently.

I also love rimmel's match perfection 2 in 1 concealer and highlighter for my under eye circles, as well as their stay matte powder for all over face application.

Lips: I love lip crayons! When i use tube lipstick i sometimes get outside the lines, and the kid in me gravitated to crayons. I am lusting after nyx's collection, but i am currently using Ulta's collection. They are usually more expensive than Nyx's but are currently on sale in stores and online for $2! I have found that rumors is a good neutral shade, daredevil is a bold red, and fashionista is a nice bold pink.

Eyebrows:
I currently am using rimmel's professional eyebrow pencil and love it.

Shadow:
I am currently using sephora's brown eyes pro lesson pallette and it changed my life-really.

Liner:
I use ulta's precision liquid eye liner (the marker) to get the shape i want (and for everyday) and sometimes top with nyx's studio liquid liner for it's long lasting power.

For kohl/colored liners i love the sephora collection line, especially the nanos.

Mascara:
For everyday use i use maybeline falsies. I also sometimes layer with rimmel's lycra lash extender.

I hope this all helps! Added Links!

I don't currently use the regimen, but I did in the past.

I did have luck with it. My face got clear and looked great. I used the cleanser, the BP but, I found I did not like the moisturizer.

I also used the Jojoba Oil, which made my skin glow! It doesn't break you out, well it didn't break me out, but others have said it didn't break them out either.

You don't have to use the Jojoba Oil. You can just use moisturizer. It's completely up to you. I recommend reading the reviews. I will link you to the sites that are most helpful for skin care product reviews.

You can definitely use alternatives, but honestly Acne.org's BP is amazing and way better than store brand like Neutrogena's BP.

I currently don't use any face wash. I only scrub my face with sugar like 2x a week. It's helped a lot. My complexion is still somewhat spotty, but for the most part it's not too bad.

Now, for the alternatives for the regimen. I can't seem to find the page with alternative products, but I do remember them.

Alternative to Acne.org Cleanser:

Basis Sensitive Skin bar

Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser

Alternatives to BP :

Neutrogena BP (This is the only I can recall)

http://www.amazon.com/Neutrogena--Spot-Treatment-Vanishing-Formula/dp/B000052YJX/ref=sr_1_2?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1369712316&sr=1-2&keywords=neutrogena+benzoyl+peroxide

Alternative to Acne.org Moisturizer:

I pulled this off of a forum post:

"Cetaphil or CeraVe are as close to Dan's moisturizer you are going to get in the store brand market... Anything else is either overly irritating or don't offer enough moisture for your skin on the regimen..."

Link: http://www.acne.org/messageboard/topic/327654-best-moisturizer-alternative/

Neutrogena is also a great brand for moisturizer.

When I was on the regimen I used Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer SPF15. My skin looked great on that. I don't use it anymore, but it does work nice. It didn't break me out.

http://www.amazon.com/Aveeno-Positively-Radiant-Daily-Moisturizer/dp/B001IM5VT4/ref=sr_1_1?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1369712484&sr=1-1&keywords=aveeno+positively+radiant+daily+moisturizer+spf+15

Hi! Due to the recent drama around here, a lot of the sidebar links take us to nowhere right now. The sidebar is usually a lot more welcoming! I think the mods are working on finding alternative sources of info, but in the meantime, here's a really good breakdown of how to evaluate your current routine to see how you might want to go about changing it, and here's sort of a crowd-sourced list of things the members here recommend, separated by skin type.

Until the beginner guides routines get retooled and put up, the search function might be a good place to start looking for recommendations, as well as sister subs like /r/AsianBeauty, /r/skincareaddicts, and /r/skincareaddictionuk, and outside sites like MakeupAlley and Beautypedia (although be aware of the bias towards Paula's Choice products here).

Now, as for your specific routine, you have a few options: you could look for a new cleanser and/or moisturizer, or you could add a few steps to your routine to level up on moisturizing. Which of these you choose to do and why is completely up to you, but here are a few common considerations among those whose skin feels dry or irritated.

  • 1: your cleanser might be drying you out. Generally, the closer your cleanser is to skin's natural pH (around 5.5), the less it will disrupt your skin's barrier function, which helps protect your skin from bacteria, irritation, etc. I'm not familiar with your cleanser, but if it's above 5.5, this might be what's happening. Off the top of my head, commonly recommended cleansers at pH ~5.5 include: CeraVe foaming cleanser (found in most drug stores), CeraVe hydrating cleanser (ditto), Hada Labo Foaming. You can find more if you search this sub and places like /r/AsianBeauty (who have a spreadsheet color-coded by pH) and other subs linked here on the sidebar.
  • 2: you want a heavier-duty moisturizer. This is pretty self explanatory. You might need something with more emollients and occlusives in it; emollients make your skin softer, while occlusives form a barrier over your skin to prevent water loss. Look for things with mineral oil or petroleum jelly (occlusives) and things like fatty alcohols (cetyl, stearyl, cetearyl) and oils for emollients. A lot of people on the sub like to recommend CeraVe in the tub or CeraVe PM as a starting point, but be aware that some people have negative reactions to fatty alcohols. EltaMD's Melting moisturizer is usually a safe bet, since it includes so few ingredients, and my all-time favorite is DML Daily Facial Moisturizer. Again, these are the things I can think of off the top of my head since I've used them, but the sub search will bring up plenty more.
  • 3: you might want to keep your current products and consider adding in more steps to your routine. Like they say, if it ain't broke, don't fix it, right? If you know your current products aren't breaking you out and feel like your skin just needs a little push over the edge to get to Happy Moisture Land, you could just add in a step or two to your existing routine. One of the easiest changes would be to slap on a thin coat of Vaseline or Aquaphor at night after cleansing and moisturizing; these both act as occlusives to prevent moisture loss overnight. If that's not enough, you could also add in a humectant between cleansing and moisturizing. Humectants help to retain moisture, and they pull up water from the dermis to the epidermis. Common humectants include glycerin and hyaluronic acid, so ideally look for products with those in the ingredient list--you often find them in things categorized as toners (although, as a side note, beware of any toners that contain alcohol, which can be drying). Some people have bought vegetable glycerin from the store and love it, while others prefer light serums with hyaluronic acid, such as this (also available at Ulta with different packaging), this, or this. Finally, you could also include a separate emollient step, like incorporating a facial oil before your moisturizer. You can get a great sample pack of oils from Garden of Wisdom, or you can pick up something from a Whole Foods, a vitamin store, or any kind of natural foods store. Popular oils include jojoba, sunflower, safflower, coconut (this breaks some people out in a major way, though), rosehip, and meadowfoam.

Anyway, this has turned into a comment of gargantuan proportions, but I hope this helps you in some way, shape, or form. In general, I really recommend using the search function, as there are droves of information on products, on pH-related stuff, on emollients/occlusives/humectants and what products contain which, etc. Don't forget to patch test any new products before putting them on your entire face, just to make sure they play nicely with your skin. I'd also be remiss if I didn't suggest adding in a sunscreen, but that's a topic for a whole different novel-sized comment.

The Korean brand COSRX makes some great, sensitive products with AHA and BHA. Using products with tea tree oil might help, but be wary of anything that could potentially alter your hormone profile. The basics of Korean skin care are consistent, everyday use of a clear step-by-step process. I suggest this site for how-to.

You don't need every step necessarily, but I would start slowly with 3-4 and build up slowly as to not agitate your skin. The important ones for you are going to be the two part cleansing, toning, essence, spot treatments and ampules, and light moisturizer-- so about six of the steps or so.

Here are some things that I find help, and seem to be very popular for acne prone skin. I have used all these, as well as my sensitive, acne prone DH and had success:

  1. Acne Patches

  2. A good toner with BHA & AHA

  3. A good essence/light moisturizer

  4. Good oil free moisturizer

  5. Good water-base face wash 1, and good face wash set with oil cleanser and water based cleanser, good oil based with added makeup removing

  6. Good spot treatment

  7. Some fun and cheap masks that sooth and treat your skin. I recommend one a week. Either Sephora or Tonymoly make some good ones.

Finally, be very careful ordering similar "discount" products off amazon because it is rife with counterfeits from China. This can be dangerous as the contents of the product/ingredients are not necessarily listed correctly, which is a problem. Buying reputable brands from verified sellers or soko glam or Sephora is absolutely recommended. I get a lot of Amazon, but I always use Fakespot.com and also check the seller out carefully. If the well-known brand manufacturer is selling it direct to Amazon, that is a pretty safe bet.

All of these thing start with the skin down, but also consider the bottom up. Look at your diet, look at your activity level, how often you clean your sheets, how stressed you are, and your general health. Have you been evaluated for gynecological or endocrine issues? It's a good idea to know that before you jump to conclusion. Make sure to consult a doctor, because sometimes our skin is a good indication of something off inside.

Good luck and I am sorry you are suffering!

I am very certain that you have dehydrated skin. Not the same as dry skin, though you may have that, too. Tight feeling skin, getting very oily very quickly, redness. Oily and dry at the same time. Your moisture barrier has been compromised. This will take time and patience to repair, but believe me, it is worth it. I once had very similar skin.

Fair warning, I myself use a mostly AB routine, and my product suggestions will reflect that.

Find a simple low pH cleanser. I like this one because it's cheap, easy to find, and lasts forever. Cleanse twice daily, with tepid water.

(I am a fan of the double cleansing method when wearing foundation and/or sunscreen. You can learn more about that here.)

Then I would work on finding light hydration that doesn't break you out. I have found that my skin absolutely loves multiple layers of light hydration. And that was key to restoring my barrier. Just putting one thick heavy layer didn't work because my skin couldn't/wouldn't do anything with it. But multiple light layers was something my skin could work with.

This, this, this, this, and this are all super suggestions. Pretty simple, basic, and gentle choices. No, you don't need to go buy all of them. Try one. See how your skin likes it after several weeks. Maybe add another. Or, some people like adding multiple layers of the same product.

Then find a humectant to layer on top, to seal moisture in. This is a very popular one. This, this, this, and this are all good choices.

Once you find a routine that your skin seems to like, stick with it for a few months. Like...3 to 6 months. It won't be an immediate fix. But over time you'll start to notice less of the tight feeling, less of the dry thin skin with an oil slick on top, less redness. Only then will you be able to see what your real skin type is. Maybe you start to see more dryness or flakiness, and the oil slick goes away. Then maybe you have drier skin. Or maybe the tight and dry feeling goes away but the oiliness stays. Then maybe you have oily skin. But until you heal your moisture barrier, nothing you throw at your skin will do any good.

  1. How many times should one cleanse each day? twice

  2. After washing your face and putting on moisturizer, is it normal for your skin to still feel slightly tight and dry? no

  3. When moisturizing my face, if I use something more watery it just feels like it dries up and takes all the moisture from my skin leaving it dry. Is this supposed to be normal? no

  4. If I put on more moisturizer afterwards, the oiliness gets too much and my face turns red. When that happens should I cleanse again and put more moisturizer on? Or should I use a cloth or something similar to wipe my face instead? keep blotting sheets on hand and blot at the oiliness (no rubbing)

  5. What should I be doing if my skin turns red and irritated? this is a sign that your skin is damaged - find gentle products that restore balance

  6. If I put on sunscreen my face gets oilier but still remains dry. What should I do during times like that? again, this should get better as your skin gets stronger

  7. How many times should one be using 8~10% AHA per week? if I were you, I would stop using this, at least for several months

  8. Would you agree that dry skin is generally darker and tougher and oily skin is reddish and blotchy? no, I think those are unrelated
u/shortmk · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

Looking at your above comments- I agree with the other poster, patch test a little area on your cheek or something with the squalane but honestly you should be fine. It's a great oil, I haven't met a face that doesn't like it! Fun (well sorta fun I guess) fact- the Squalane Oil from TO was the founder who recently passed away, Brandon Truaxe's favorite product. The company gave it away for free with purchases made in stores after he died because he was so passionate about the product.

Ahh hydrating toner recommendations-

Dear Klairs

Corsx essence

Missha essence

Those are the three I see recommend on here the most, like all the time. I use the STUPIDLY expensive SK-II would never recommend this it does nothing that every other hydrating toner/essence does- I have one or two more applications left in the bottle then it's going in the trash. I also use and love the Son & Park Beauty Water it's a huge bottle and it just feels wonderful on the skin!!

You'll know things are working trust me. Your skin will look and feel better, glowing and happier!! And yes in a month (??) once your face is plump and happily hydrated the routine you came up with looks good!

Ohhh yes! Thank you for posting this thread bc I just found my love for gel creams as well. I have combination oily skin so it works so much better for me, especially if it is oil free. Sadly, I have not tried that many yet but I just ordered the Mizon Snail Recovery Gel :)

I talked about this quite a lot already, but I had a sample of the Amore Pacific Hydra-gel and liked it a lot. It was a tad bit too fragrant, but fragrances don't really bother me that much. I loved the way that it was so easy to spread and that it sunk into my skin pretty quickly! Not sticky at all and it goes under suncreen and foundation really well for me. But sigh it is in the three digit price tag so I will just be living vicariously off it in samples..

I'm super interested in trying the Nature Republic Super Aqua Max Combination Watery Cream. I don't see it mentioned at all on this sub but I see a lot of instagrammers raving about this line of products! They apparently have a version for oily, combination, and dry skins so I think that is pretty awesome. If anyone has tried it, please let me know how you liked it! The price is definitely really attractive so even if there are a few negative reviews, I think I would want to try it out anyway :p

First of all, I am an employee at a major western beauty retailer in none other than the field of skin care. I am very familiar with ingredients and quite savvy at building skin care routines to fit my clients' needs... and I'm proud of it. That being said, I've found that many of the products my employer offers are too harsh or contain ingredients I don't agree with; in addition, we don't sell a huge variety of AB, at least not enough to satisfy my liking.

SOOOO, this is kind of new territory for me. I know one thing for a fact: I LOVE love LOVE snail. Below, I have a tentative list of AB products I have researched and have added to my Amazon.com cart and would love to hear from this community about my choices. I would love to hear recommendations as well. Below, I'll list the products by AM or PM routine (as I've planned).

A little background:

u/pleasekisumi · 7 pointsr/AsianBeauty

Hi and welcome to AB!

  • The basics of any AB routine are oil cleanser, foam cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen. You're currently missing an oil cleanser and a moisturizer. Unless you'll be keeping the CeraVe and Neutrogena, but even then you still need an oil cleanser.

  • The Cosrx BHA is a good substitute for the Stridex.

  • The Cosrx Galactomyces is a first essence, so it's not like other essences. It's applied immediately after foam cleansing and before a toner. This doesn't replace anything from your original routine, but it is a good product for evening skin tone.

  • The Hada Labo Lotion is a hydrating toner, despite it's name. It should be applied after the Cosrx first essence. If you're looking for the actual moisturizer version of this product, look for the "milk" instead of "lotion".

  • The Biore sunscreen is a fine choice.

  • The Benton Snail Bee Essence is another great choice. Some people find success with this product in multiple departments because it has lots of good ingredients in it.

  • So for an oil cleanser, you have lots of options. For a cheap option, go for the Kose Softymo Deep Oil Cleanser. For a slightly more expensive option, go with the Banila Co. Clean it Zero. You can find either of these on Amazon if that's what you prefer. You need to oil cleanse when you wear sunscreen and/or makeup. This clears out all the gunk from your skin.

  • For a foam cleanser, look for something low pH. Good examples would be the Cosrx Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser and the Hada Labo Gokujyun Hyaluronic Acid Cleansing Foam. (also can be found on Amazon)

  • For a moisturizer, you can keep using the CeraVe if it works for you. If you want an AB option. Check out the Holy Grail Megathread on the sidebar for good suggestions.

That's all i've got. Feel free to ask questions. :)

I'm not familiar with the cleansers, but a few lovely moisturizers I like for dryer skin are:

Shara Shara Water Girls Ice Cream Especially lovely for warmer months. It's cooling and absorbs nicely!

Miss Flower & Mr. Honey A bit of a commitment but I recommend getting a decant sometime! It's so lovely!!

Etude House Moistfull Collagen Cream It's really more gel-like in consistency and I was very impressed by this product, especially considering the low price point! This is a perfect example of luxurious doesn't necessarily equal expensive!

...hope this helps! I'm sure the others have great suggestions too!

u/anoukaimee · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

No; I looked on the website and it doesn't look like CeraVe has an eye cream with an AHA/BHA in it (which is maybe par for the course, given the sensitivity in the area). But I'm sure if CeraVe makes it, it's good!

I was looking at something in this line--you can look at all the CeraVe products there.

Again, I don't think you really need a separate eye cream. I think that's all marketing (so long as you pick the correct product--not sensitizing, etc.--unless you have really sensitive skin or are prone to milia). This one gets mediocre reviews on Amazon, but they don't have the best reviewers there, for many reasons. It's a great line overall, and has AHAs.

So I guess I'd say yes: use oils and a humectant layer at night, and then a non-allergenic moisturizer in the undereye area. Or, if you want a day eye cream, here are some options I'd consider, just looking at Amazon now (not based on anything other than the product line, the reviews there, and fact that they're focusing on moisturizing--I don't know much about eye creams because I don't use them!):

I'm a guy, but I've had to use facial moisturizers ever since I went on Accutane when I was younger, so I have experience in this area.

For starters, you want a facial moisturizer that is both noncomedogenic (won't block pores) and hypo-allergenic. It will say this on the back. Also, if you are sensitive to the sun, try to get one that has SPF 15 in it.

Funny that the Positively Radiant one made you break out. That's been my go-to for years as it moisturizes very well and even contains 0.5% salicylic acid to help curb breakouts. The small amount of salicylic acid doesn't make me feel any drier and is great at regulating breakouts without needing to use benzoyl peroxide before moisturizing. But then again there's two different Positively Radiant products out on the market. I've no experience with the "Active Naturals" version of it, but maybe that's the one you're getting and it's not working out?

Someone else recommended the Neutrogena Oil-Free Moisturizer for Sensitive Skin and I used that for a bit and it worked out great. There's also a variant of that with Alpha-Hydroxy acid in it which also seemed to help even out my skin tone (always have had a pretty uneven skin tone on my face due to my previous teenage-year bouts with acne). However, you might not want to dive in to it since there's a possibility it will just make you feel drier.

Cetaphil is a brand marketed towards people with acne who want a moisturizer that won't clog pores. I love the stuff for my body as it moisturizes probably better than any other product I've used, but when it's on my face it has an odd texture that makes you feel like its clumped up (it's not) and it's very greasy so I don't use that.

The other one that worked very well for me (but still not to the degree that the Aveeno one has, which is why I continue to use it) is the CeraVe Facial Moisturizing Lotion.

As for chapped lips (if this is an issue) go with Carmex, hands down. It works way better than any other lip moisturizer and doesn't need to be reapplied obsessively like Chapstick or Burt's Bees.

Other tips:

-Use an exfoliant once per week. Don't go overboard and use one every single day, as that will just further irritate your already-irritated skin. There's no question that St. Ives Apricot Scrub is your best choice here. Exfoliated skin can retain moisturizing lotions better than flaking skin. Just use it sparingly. Experiment with it.

-Try finding a shampoo without SLS in the ingredients (it's tough since almost every shampoo you'll see has it in it, but there are plenty without) to both avoid hair damage as well as having the shampoo run down your face and further irritate your skin.

-Shower in warm water rather than hot water. Hot water irritates skin and dries it out.

-Try adding Fish Oil into your diet, as it's known to have palliative effects on dry skin.

-Put a humidifier in your bedroom.

What Stegateratops said.

THAT SAID, if you wanted to gradually start a new routine, here's what I'd go for:

AM:

  • Hadalabo Cleansing Foam. pH neutral, affordable, incredibly gentle.

  • OPTIONAL: Hadalabo Light Lotion. It's a little bit lighter than the usual Hadalabo lotion, but BE SURE TO PATCH TEST. I find this invaluable for giving combination skin a very light, comfortable dose of moisture.

  • Biore UV Aqua Rich Sunscreen. Yes, you need sunscreen, even in the UK.

    PM:

  • Any cleansing oil. I like the L'oreal one that you can get from Boots. Apply to dry skin, wait a minute, massage, rinse. You might feel little 'grits' pop out while you're massaging.

  • Follow with your foaming cleanser from AM.

  • Paula's Choice BHA Liquid. Pat on after you've cleansed. I like to let it sit for 10 minutes before proceeding, but La Paula says you don't have to.

  • OPTIONAL - your Hadalabo lotion if you choose to get it.

  • Loads of moisturiser options. I like Neutrogena Moisture Boost at the moment, but some people find it a little drying.

But, again: see a GP about your acne, there may be some other treatments that can help. Add new products very gradually. PATCH TEST. For acne, I choose a spot beside my nose and dab that new product on every day for about 10 days. I've discovered that quite a few products break me out when I do that, it's very much worth trying. And WEAR SUNSCREEN. It's not optional. Sun damage causes large pores to look much much worse.

    Good luck.

AM

  • CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser
  • Paula’s Choice Vitamin C15 Super Booster (I’ve used products that go up to 20% but I haven’t noticed a difference in anything but shelf life so I stick with this one).
  • Paula’s Choice Retinol 1% (every third day right now, it’s my newest addition)
  • Benton Snail Bee high content essence
  • CeraVe AM Moisturizer
  • Nivea Sun Protect Super Water Gel SPF 50/PA+++ (but waiting on Skin Aqua Super Moisture Gel SPF50 + PA ++++ to arrive)
  • Makeup (on work days)

    PM

  • Jojoba oil
  • CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser
  • Paula’s Choice 10% AHA (recently increased from the 8% to the 10%, I feel like the 8% wasn’t doing enough for me)
  • Benton Snail Bee high content essence
  • CeraVe PM Moisturizer

I am preemptively concerned about dryness since adding PC's Retinol 1%. I really want the benefits of the retinol but know it can be drying so I want to be proactive about boosting hydration.

Which of these hydrating toners and/or essences would you recommend and why?

  • Kikumasamune Sake Skin Lotion High Moisture
  • Hadalabo JAPAN Skin Institute Gokujun premium hyaluronic solution
  • MUJI Sensitive Skin Moisturizing Toning Water/Toner, Light
  • NOONI Deep Water Therapy Dual Moisturizing Toner
  • MISSHA Time Revolution The First Intensive Moist Treatment Essence

Skin type: normal, can be a bit red or sensitive at times, a little oily / clogged corners of nose and chin at times. My main concerns are texture, brightness, anti-aging.

Hello! Longtime lurker, first time poster (female, 27 years old). Since my early 20s, my routine has consisted of using sunscreen in the morning and washing it off with water at night, and overall I am happy with my skin. However, for the last couple years I've been wanting to add in some products for exfoliation and to fade some spots; in order to add an AHA/BHA/vitamin C/other similar products, I figured I needed to get a good skincare routine with a cleanser and moisturizer in place first before incorporating actives. After reading Skincare Addiction and Asian Beauty posts for years I finally started building a skincare routine a few months ago, but I am confused and I need some help!

Pics of skin: https://imgur.com/a/BIDre I think the lighting is more flattering in the first picture, but my skin was also in a better place. The redness and bumpiness in the second picture started a few days ago, and I stopped using the moisturizer that was causing it so hopefully it will get better soon.

Issues: old scar on my cheek (from a weird patch of dry skin that lingered for months), sunspots/freckles on cheeks, PIH, a few CCs, dry skin flakes (especially in winter), one stubborn milia on my cheek (a milium?), occasional acne around that time of the month

Skin type: dry, sensitive (reacts to many products, but overall fairly resilient as long as I stop using all products for a few days after a reaction)

Current routine:

Morning:

  • splash with water

  • Bobbi Brown SPF 50 Protective Face Base: link (no makeup after, even though I think this sunscreen is for use under foundation)

    Evening:

  • rinse with room temperature or lukewarm water

  • use La Roche-Posay Lipikar Balm AP+ moisturizing cream; previously Nivea Creme

How long/anything new: I just switched to the La Roche-Posay Lipikar Balm last night. For 2-3 weeks I was using Nivea Crème every night, but I noticed new whiteheads, redness, and bumps around my mouth recently. I have been trying out new skincare products for around 2-3 months.

Goals for skincare routine over next 3 months: find a moisturizer that I can use morning and night, ideally one that also heals skin; add a cleanser for nighttime

Goals for skincare routine over next year: add an AHA for exfoliation and fading scar on cheek, sun damage, and PIH; possibly add a vitamin C or other product to fade spots more; possibly switch out expensive Bobbi Brown sunscreen for one of the AB sunscreens I have (the Bobbi Brown sunscreen sort of doubles as a moisturizer for me, and my skin felt dry when using the AB ones since I didn't have a real moisturizer underneath. Once I find a good moisturizer, I'm planning to try the AB ones again)

    My location: USA

    Need recommendations for:

  1. Do I in fact need a cleanser and moisturizer before adding an AHA or vitamin C if I already have a sunscreen?

  2. The order in which I should build my skincare routine. The newbie recommendation says to focus on finding a cleanser (Step 1) and a moisturizer (Step 4), but it doesn't say which to incorporate first. I have sensitive skin and have reacted badly to skincare products in the past, so I can only introduce one product at a time and I need to do a lot of patch testing. I have a sunscreen in my routine already. I tried adding a cleanser first (La Roche-Posay Toleriane Hydrating Gentle Cleanser for Normal to Dry Skin, most gentle cleanser I have ever tried), but after a week my skin got somewhat dry and I developed some little red patches that went away when I stopped using the cleanser, which suggests that my skin needed a moisturizer after cleansing. I am currently trying different moisturizers (Cerave PM, Nivea Crème in blue tub, now La Roche-Posay Lipikar Balm AP+), but after a few weeks of each one I notice new whiteheads trapped under my skin on my cheeks, and now after the Nivea Crème I have some redness and bumpiness around my mouth (see pics above). When I got whiteheads after using the Cerave PM I thought I was reacting badly to fatty alcohols, but now I'm thinking it just means I need a cleanser because Nivea Crème doesn't have fatty alcohols. Do I continue my quest for a moisturizer first and then add a cleanser next? Arrrgh! I'm so confused and frustrated because I feel like my skin looked better when I was only using sunscreen. I also feel like my confidence has taken a hit because I obsess over little spots that I'm sure no one else notices.

  3. Product haul from Amazon. I got $50 in giftcards for my birthday (woo!) and I am interested in buying hydrocolloid bandages and some moisturizers and/or essences to try out over the next few months, especially ones that are not available at CVS/Target/etc. Eventually I want to get actives, but I think I should wait until I have the basics under control. I have narrowed it down to the following options after reading HG recommendations here and on the AB subreddit for dry/sensitive skin, but I would appreciate any suggestions if I have gone wrong somewhere and guidance in narrowing the list to total around $50, or additional recommendations if I missed a good HG product:

    Hydrocolloid bandages:

COSRX Acne Pimple Master Patch, 24 Patches ($5) link

    Moisturizer:

COSRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence ($20) link

COSRX Honey Ceramide Full Moisture Cream ($20) link

Benton Snail Bee High Content Steam Cream ($15) link

Mizon Snail Recovery Gel Cream ($9) link

Sorry for the giant post! If I should ask this somewhere else in Skincare Addiction or post this in Asian Beauty instead, please let me know.

(edited for formatting and clarity. new to reddit formatting)

I'm still a skincare newbie but I'm into:

  • Paula's Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid (daily is my goal)
  • Baebody Beauty Retinol Anti-Aging Moisturizer which I just found on Amazon recently and my face has never felt so hydrated in my entire life.

I like to keep a pretty minimal skin care/makeup routine. I also have a handful of face masks, none that I'm over the moon about.

I received these in a beauty box a while back and I wish I had more but I'm loving this new moisturizer so much I might not even need these eye pads! :)

I waited 2 months for my Hada Labo Gokujyun Lotion to come, & it never arrived (I am getting a refund). But my dry skin can't wait another month for a hydrating Hyaluronic Acid product, so I am considering some locally available options for immediate use. I wonder if you guys could take a look at these HA serums & help me pick which one might be best (or recommend an alternative available in Canada)?

Now Foods - Hyaluronic Acid Serum $20 / 30 mL (concern: HA is far down the ingredients list)

Derma E: Hydrating Serum with Hyaluronic Acid $32 / 60 mL (concern: many ingredients, incl. dimethicone)

Pure Creations: Hyaluronic Serum $33 / 30 mL (concern: flower/fruit extracts could be irritating)

*other product suggestions welcome

Also, I am going to order the Hada Labo Lotion Light ($19/170mL) this time, because I am afraid of butylene glycol sensitivity; that or this Garden of Wisdom HA Serum ($17/60mL) - has anybody tried it?

Follow up: has anyone tried Neutrogena
Hydro Boost Gel Cream Extra-Dry Skin
($25/47mL)? It supposedly has HA.

Thank you!

I have combo skin (generally oily but as I've gotten older more dry, especially if I'm using actives and especially ESPECIALLY in winter) that's acne prone.

As far as cleansing, I've been trying to not use any soap in the mornings (except for micellar water) because I think over soaping makes my skin break out. To take off makeup, I've been using Garnier Skinactive Micellar Water ($6.59) and then second cleansing with Bliss Rosegold Gentle Foaming Cleanser ($10.99) or Pacifica Cosmic Hemp balancing face wash ($10).

I've been using Derma E Vitamin C Concentrated Serum w/ Hyaluronic Acid ($19.99 on Ulta, $18 at Walmart) and Clinique Hydrating Jelly ($28 for 4 oz) after in the mornings and the Ordinary Natural Hydrating Factors ($7.70) OR Etude House Moistfull Collagen Cream ($14.90 on Amazon) before bed. The Ordinary & the Etude House creams are nice but too thick for me to use in the mornings because I don't have time to let them sink in completely before I have to put on make up, the Clinique dries much faster. I think I prefer the Etude House more than the Ordinary (makes my skin feel smoother) but the Ordinary is so cheap that I always buy it.

For exfoliants, in the mornings I don't wash my face with soap, I just rinse with water and follow with Pacifica's Kale Water Micellar Cleansing Tonic with glycolic acid ($12). At night I switch between Pixi Overnight Retinol Oil ($24), Differin ($12.89) and a benzoyl peroxide gel (right now Neutrogena On the Spot - $9). Once a week I'll use a Pixi Glow Glycolic Peel pad ($22).

I also have been using Lancome Skin Feels Good Hydrating Tint ($35) because it has hyaluronic acid and SPF 23 (when I use this I powder with BareMinerals Original Foundation because it has an SPF of 15 so I'm covered as far as skin protection). On days where I don't feel like wearing make up I'll use Neutrogena Hydro Boost Sunscreen w/ SPF 50 ($16.49). I get greasy with this by the end of the day, but I'm not worried about it. Powdering helps.

TBH the only thing that really helps my acne are prescriptions to Epiduo Forte + Acanya, but because I'm "too old to have acne" (HAHA OKAY) my insurance doesn't cover that so I've been using Differin and Neutrogena :( It works but not as well as the RX stuff.

My skin is a mess right now. I am not particularly acne-prone the majority of the year, but at the beginning of summer every year I get deep cystic acne. Like, one at a time. And I am waking up with little whiteheads almost every morning. I consider my skin to be combination as the upper part of my T zone and my forehead are like a desert, but the rest of my face is oily. With work, and going through a bout of depression, I can hardly invest a heavy amount of time, money, and energy into my skincare routine, but I do care about it. I was wondering if anyone would be willing to give suggestions and chat away here on what I could do.

Right now my skincare basics consist of:

In terms of cleansers, Hada Labo certainly has some good ones. This one has been a hit with my sister, who deals with both acne and sensitivity. I love the toner that /r/sca recommended, but you may want to try it in person. Hada Labo offers different kinds of hyaluronic acid toners, with this "Moist" one being the heaviest/thickest one. They also have a lighter version that you may prefer (I know my sister thinks the Moist version is too heavy).

I hope you enjoy Taiwan! Taipei is a wonderful city, lots of good food and fun.

I agree that there should be a list of recommended sunscreen products. I like EltaMD sunscreens but you have to order online. You can get them on Amazon for ~$20 which is neither cheap nor expensive. They are gentle and have no fragrance.

Other than that, I would just go with something like this Neutrogena one which you can find at any drugstore. For some reason, a lot of people here like Coppertone Water Babies sunscreen too. Paula's Choice are generally good too, but a little more expensive and you have to order online (you can get free shipping by signing up for their emails and $10 off from the PC referral thread).

Find a good sunscreen is hard for everyone. You just have to try and see what you like.

u/GetOffMyLawn_ · 2 pointsr/Rosacea

Cortisone is contra-indicated in rosacea, it can make it worse.

OK, you need a gentle skin care routine and a topical and maybe some oral stuff too.

  1. Wash with something mild like Cetaphil lotion, CeraVe moisturizing cleanser, or Eucerin anti-redness cleanser. There are others that are similar. But you want mild. Pat your face dry. Do not use soap!

  2. Apply your topical med. That could be Metrogel but there are others for rosacea.

  3. Apply moisturizer if necessary. Again, something mild, one of the 3 brands above has something rosacea friendly. CeraVe makes a PM moisturizer with niacinamide. Niacinamide can have an anti-inflammatory effect on the skin. A moisturizer with MSM or sulfur can also help your skin. I've been using this with good results. But read the reviews, it doesn't work for everyone.

  4. Sunscreen, preferably a mineral block like zinc oxide or titanium dioxide. Often baby's sunscreen or kid's sunscreen is mineral based. (I use Banana Boat Babies). Or look in the natural aisle. Unfortunately it can make you look white and pasty.

  5. Oral meds: Either prescription antibiotics (ugh, too many side effects) or prescription vitamins (Nicomide) or high dose niacinamide vitamins. Or, MSM pills.

  6. Wear a hat with a brim and stay out of the sun.

acne.org has a good article on how to wash your face gently and apply meds and lotions. http://www.acne.org/regimen.html

Also, regarding the barrier thing: Some folks here have use Aquaphor on their face and things have healed up nicely. It's mostly petroleum jelly so it creates a protective layer on your face. https://www.aquaphorus.com/healing-ointment/?gclid=COWtpL2etMsCFZQjgQodMwcEkA#1_75oz-tube
u/Garchompgirl · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

I was using the First Aid Beauty Ultra-firm Night Cream, which has niacinamide in it. Unfortunately it gave me a lot of redness, but if you can get a sample I would try that out. A lot of CeraVe moisturizers have Niacinamide, and the Skin Renewing Night Cream has Niacinamide, Ceramides (including Ceramide 3 which, to my understanding, is the most beneficial) and Hyaluronic acid. I haven't used this, but a lot of people really love CeraVe products.

I am more familiar with these ingredients in asian skincare. If you are in the US, the Benton Steam Cream has both niacinamide and hyaluronic acid in it and dries to a matte finish, so you can wear it throughout the day and it's under $12 on Amazon. It also contains snail mucin which helps promote healing, and honey which helps fight acne and moisturizes. It works well as an occlusive layer for the daytime. For night, Vaseline or Aquaphor work really well.

I work in a lab, too, so I know how hard it can be on the skin. I like to bring a facial mist with me (any that you like is fine) to keep my hydration up during the day. I also use a hyaluronic acid serum. The one I use is asian (Mizon Hyaluronic Acid Ampoule) but there are tons of Hyaluronic products available. Let me know if you have more questions!

This is the most important part.

>Organic Aloe Barbadensis Gel

Humectant thumbs up

>Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Butter

Emollients

>Leptospermum Scoparium (Manuka Honey) Mel

Humectant

>Butyrospermum Parki (Shea) Butter

Emollient

>Centipeda Cunninghamii (Cehami)

Plant extract, potential irritant

>Glycerine (vegetable derived)

Humectant

>Emulsifying Wax

Occlusive. Could be either plant-based or petroleum-based but I'd put money on it being plant-based.

>Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride

Emollient

>Spirucosm (Blue Algae)

Extract

>Organic Cannabis Sativa (Hemp Seed) Oil, Organic Olea Europaea (Olive) Oil

Emollients

>Methyl Sufonyl Methane (MSM)

Allegedly good for rosacea. It's just sulfur.

>Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Panthenol (Vitamin B5)

Vitamins

>Retinyl Palmitate (Vitamin A), Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate (Vitamin C)

This cream is in a tub. These ingredients are going to oxidise pretty much straight away and have no effect. When Vitamin C oxidises it is actually harmful (it's an oxidant, as opposed to antioxidant), but at this concentration probably not.

>Oat Amino Protein

Extract known to be anti-inflammatory

>Frangipani Extract

Potential irritant

>Saccharomyces/Copper Ferment, Saccharomyces/Magnesium Ferment Hydrolysate, Saccharomyces/Potassium Ferment Hydrolysate, Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP)

These are really good ingredients. thumbs up

>Riboflavin (Vitamin B2)

/shrug, probably colourant at this concentration

>Tapioca Starch, Polysorbate 80, Sodium Hydroxide

Thickener, emulsifier, pH adjuster

>Titanium Dioxide, Carbomer

Whitening agent, emulsifier

>Glucose, Xanthan Gum, Chondrus Crispus (Carrageenan)

Thickeners

>Sodium Hyaluronate

I really would have wanted to see this amazing humectant much further up this list.

>Geogard Ultra (Gluconolactone and Sodium Benzoate), Phenoxyethanol

Preservatives

Realistically, this cream is going to be very sticky and will likely dry out due to the only real occlusive in it being "emulsifying wax". I would have liked to see dimethicone (silicone) in it, or at the very least some petroleum jelly. It gets points for the inclusion of saccharomyces ferments and adenosine. It also contains a huge amount of potentially comedogenic oils which may break you out, but YMMV.

I'd try it out, but I would apply it just after dinner after I've showered and let it soak in until just before bed, when I would apply a very thin layer of petroleum jelly over the top. I'd also have patch tested the shit out of it due to the extracts, behind my ears daily for two weeks.

EDIT: Doesn't contain niacinamide! :\

u/theeternalnoob · 1 pointr/AsianBeauty

Shoot! I just double checked the ingredients on it and it actually contains niacinamide. Sorry! I love niacinamide so I'm usually very aware of which of my products have it, but I forgot about this one.

I haven't used CosRX "Oil Free" Ultra Moisturizing Lotion with Birch Sap personally (YET), but it's widely acclaimed as a great lightweight moisturizer by people with wildly different skin types. And I double checked the ingredients--no niacinamide or snail.

Earth's Recipe Energy Boosting Toner has also gotten a lot of good press for its hydrating capabilities. Ingredients do not include snail or niacinamide, and while it's billed as a toner, it's really thick. It's been characterized as giving a sheet mask-y glow without the sheet mask, again by people with wildly different skin types.

Hello! I just got all my products in the mail but I want to be clear about the order I will use them in at night. Any suggestions are welcome.

For a cheaper option that I personally like the texture of a little more, you can try Etude House's Mint Choux Base :) I LOVE what it does for my skin.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00DQGUTE2/ref=redir_mdp_mobile/184-0605396-5677252
(Multiple sellers, of course-- that's the general product though.)
imo it's a little lighter green than the Smashbox primer, so you gotta see what works best for your complexion :)

Whatever you use though, green primer is definitely a great idea for red skin!! I started using some back in May and now it's a permanent part of my daily routine.

u/buyingaddict · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

Have you tried gel-based moistuirizers? I hate how heavy cream feels on my face cause I have oily skin so I only ever wear gel moisturizers. Garnier's Moisture for normal/combo skin was pretty good for me, but I've started using more AB products now, such as Mizon Snail Recovery Gel. Check out oily skin moisturizer recommendations over at /r/AsianBeauty. Also, YMMV but alcohol is actually my friend. Alcohol in my moisturizers help control oil productions. What works for me may not work for you though! Remember to patch test whenever you're trying something new.

Maybe your cleanser is too stripping and your skin is overcompensating by producing excess oil. Do you double cleanse? What cleanser do you use? I use a mild cleanser in the morning and double cleanse only in the evening.

Innisfree no sebum mineral powder is a really good oil-control powder btw! I love that stuff. My face feels so smooth after.

Hope this helps!

u/n3rdfish · 23 pointsr/SkincareAddictionUK

I have oily skin, but the oiliness decreased DRAMATICALLY once I (a) stopped using strong, stripping cleansers and (b) addressed some underlying dehydration issues.

First, paradoxically, you've got to stop drying your face out. The second ingredient in that toning lotion is alcohol - as a start, I'd stop using that. The second ingredient in that cleanser is sodium laureth sulphate - I'd also replace that with something much gentler, like Cerave Hydrating Cleanser, or my favourite, Hada-Labo Cleansing Foam.

You've got to get some hyaluronic acid and ceramides into your skin to help repair your moisture barrier. For me, the key to repairing my oily/dehydrated skin has been using multiple light watery hydrating layers - this is where Asian products really are better. For hyaluronic acid, you could try Hadalabo Light Lotion. This is basically an extremely light hyaluronic acid serum that almost looks like water, that you pat into your face after cleansing. You could also try layering that with Cerave Lotion at night to get some ceramides into your poor skin.

For me, the best mattifying primer is my sunscreen, Biore Perfect Milk, but this does leave a slight white cast so is not suitable for deeper skin tones.

So, TL:DR, your drying cleanser and toner are doing you no favours. Invest in light, watery hydrating layers to repair your moisture barrier. And pls use sunscreen!

So I wanted to create my first SCA routine and I chose CosRx as my brand because: a) I've heard Korean cosmetics are great; b) they're the only cruelty-free brand from the FAQ; c) convenience of buying from one shop. I'm looking for very basic beginner routine consisting of cleanser and moisturizer. After a few weeks or so I want to add sunscreen on top of that but for now I will stick to bare bones routine.

So there's only one CosRx cleanser in the FAQ which I will order. There are two moisturizer creams and I'm not sure which one to choose. Does it make sense to order both and use one at night and the other one in the morning? Or is it better to concentrate on just one for now and see how it goes? These creams are as follows: Advanced Snail Cream and Honey Ceramide Moisture.

If it's good to use both then do you have any idea on which one should go at night and which in the morning? Judging by reviews Honey Ceramide Moisture seems to be used by people at night more although I don't know how reliable source it is. I'm not very well versed in various ingredients and their properties so I decided to ask here.

Finally - would their gel cleanser + one or two of these creams be a good beginner routine? For example something like this:

AM:

- wash face with water

- put Advanced Snail Cream

PM:

- wash face with Low PH Good Morning gel cleanser

- put Honey Ceramide Moisture cream

Or am I missing something? Thank you in advance!

u/wutwutchickenbuttwut · 3 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

Ah I made a post but perhaps it is better to just comment here instead

I'm a guy in his mid 20s and my current routine is REALLY simple but has some problems and I would also like to expand it a bit...

Current routine:

AM - Wash face, Apply lotion, Put on tinted sunblock (need it cus of darker skin)

PM - Same as AM sans the sunblock and using St Ives exfloiating pad (AHA) before applying lotion.

So off the bat there are two problems with my routine. First is that there are days when I go to the gym mid-day which requires a shower. Problem with this is that I must wash my face 3 times on certain days (how else would I remove the sunblock?). Second is that I shave using a double-edge razor which actually serves to exfoliate the parts of my face that I shave so what ends up happening is that my entire face is not being exfoliated equally (my cheek look so much better than my forehead), I have no idea how I would go about solving this... It should be noted that I do not use the St Ives pads on night when I shave (I shave every other day).

I want to change my routine to account for these two issues while also expanding it a bit to lessen stuff like wrinkles and dark spots (my complexion sucks, esp my forehead).

I was looking at some products and found some that looks promising? interesting? but honestly, I'm not too experienced in this area...

For the eyes

For the wrinkles

Possible regular moisturizers: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5

You can see that I prefer gel moisturizers because I don't like that feeling of putting on lotion and my face being sticky even after like an hour (Aveeno does this).

Face wash - my current face wash isn't sustainable (kinda niche) and it doesn't wash away my sunblock all that well either... I had the same problem with SCA's favorite Cerave hydrating cleanser.

I can't say I've noticed real improvement from using St Ives's pads? Not sure if I want to try anything stronger though because I am bad with sunblock reapplication.

Even the sunblock is not the best because it has such a strong flowery smell. But I need a lightly tinted one to not look like a ghost... Hmm maybe this one?

u/nugjones · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

I'm not who you replied to but I'm currently using Avene recovery cream. I found it really hard to find a fatty alcohol free moisturizer that was actually moisturizing and this is the best for me yet. I really need a lot of moisture though so I still use some sort of face mist along with it. The price sucks, though.

Sebamed clear face gel is also really good but it isn't as moisturizing. It's literally all 0s on cosdna though so if you don't need as much moisture it's a safe bet acne wise.

u/Breyber12 · 2 pointsr/AsianBeauty

About the Cosrx toner, it works great as a prep for chemical exfoliation and does have some low concentrations of both AHA and BHA. If you like the idea of using a low concentration more frequently this can be used up to twice a day and it works best when sprayed onto a cotton square. It can also be used as a prep for your usual strength AHA/BHA which you would use as your skin normally tolerates. Gothamista talks about this product in a fair amount of detail in one of her videos, I’ll see if I can find it and link it for you. You do have to be careful with where you purchase this as other ABers have had issues with counterfeit products. Cosrx’s Instagram named Mr.RX as a trusted seller if you are looking to use Amazon. I also understand that most K beauty routines would place chemical exfoliation right after cleansing in the evening (or after a pH adjusted toner after cleansing). If you check out the “About this Item” description, Cosrx has a little routine guide.

As for a lip mask, Nooni Apple Butter Lip Mask is absolutely heavenly, but a bit pricey. I was able to get it at Ulta for ~$19, but there is a lot of product and a little goes a long way.

Edit: found the video! Her description starts at 4:55 and goes till about 5:55. The whole video is worth watching if you’re interested in good products for oily/acne prone skin though.

u/aquajack6 · 6 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

What moisturizers have you tried? Which one is working out for you right now (only making it red for 30 mins?). It can be helpful to compare ingredient lists of products that work/don't work

The adapting to products that irritate you really only works with actives like ahas, bhas, retinoids. If you're getting irritation from ingredients that give you contact dermatitis, you shouldn't be using those ingredients/products at all. Any ingredient can give you an allergic reaction, the more you use that ingredient, the more likely you are to get a reaction (this is especially true with fragrance, but can happen with lots of other ingredients).

Vanicream is a good brand for sensitive skin, the lite Lotion and moisturizing cream for sensitive skin have very bland formulas. Avene has a line of products for sensitive skin that is good too. You don't have to use a cleanser if you find it irritates your skin, just rinsing with water is fine. Using just Vaseline afterwards can work well. I recently purchased this moisturizer from Elta MD. The ingredients are simply petrolatum and paraffin. It's basically just their own version of Vaseline, but I kind of like it better. It melts into my skin and is less sticky.

If you want to experiment with using the moisturizer you're using now in the PM, then I suppose it wouldn't hurt to try it. Honestly though, normal moisturizers shouldn't cause any redness & it would be preferable for you to find a moisturizer that just simply calms & moisturizes your skin without causing any reaction.

Honeyskin is wonderful! It's engineered for rosacea and is super well-reviewed. I just started using it and instantly after putting it on my skin feels calmer. It creates a really nice mattifying effect that I find helps soothe the inflammation of my raised skin or active bumps. It contains manuka honey which is very well-known for it's antibacterial and healing properties. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00QUKS6NW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

::Deep breath::

AM & PM:

  • Slap some o' this stuff all over my face: Hada Labo Hyaluronic Acid. This shit is the shit. It makes everything else absorb better. Less slug life, more actual benefits.

  • Snail Goo! Bee Goo! This is very calming, and helps with redness and itchiness from the tret irritation.
  • Sometimes an ampoule but I haven't found an exceptional one yet.
  • More magic: This Donkey-flavored cream. Sometimes, my face is so unhappy that even Cerave stings. This always helps. Plus, the name makes me giggle every time I open it. Don't buy it at this price, though. Memebox runs lots of sales, and I can stock up for more like $25. I'd like to find a cheaper dupe.
  • Draw a goatee on myself with a thick cream (where my peeling and redness are worst). I don't think this is particularly special, any heavy cream does the same thing. I carry it around all day, though, and reapply said goatee. Makes my skin feel less tight, helps with the red some more, and hides the edges of the peeling for a while.
u/PinkFurLookinLikeCam · 13 pointsr/tretinoin

I realized a while ago that I have to apply my moisture in layers. So yes I do use a ton of moisture products, but my skin has proper hydration and a consistent moisture barrier that no active has ever been able to penetrate.

OP I would stop washing your face unless maybe once at night, and only oil cleansing. Oil cleanses oil. Your face doesn’t need extreme cleansing or other cleansing products.

I would spray with a moisturizing toner (there are a million, choose one that you like) then layer 1-2 layers of a hyaluronic Acid over your face when it’s wet with Toner. I like Korean brands, like this one and this one. Then layer that with a snail mucus which sounds awful but it’s crazy hydrating, like this one. Layer that with a gel, like this. Then a cream like this one and finally a sleeping mask like this one. Bonus points for applying a wet sheet mask over it for 30 minutes.

It seems absolutely extra and I personally wish I could slap on a moisturizer and call it a night but it’s the only way to truly hydrate and nourish the moisture barrier.

I have type 2, I've heard that is the main kind that Ivermectin is good for, and I don't really have flushing and I don't think this works for that. Both the Ivermectin and Cliradex (tea tree oil extract apparently?) are meant to treat demodex mites, which is obviously just a theory. I'm not a doctor and I know that these things aren't for everyone. There's a good Facebook group called ROSACEA RESCUE that has a lot of people with varying degrees of success.

(the big breakout on my forehead happened between the time I ordered the horse paste and started using it, so that flared before I started using it. It's honestly better than it was at one point)

AM:

Wash with CeraVe Moisturizing Cleanser

Sparingly apply Durvet Ivermectin Apple Flavored Gel (called horse paste, but not paste, and it's a bit stick for daytime, so I only put a small amount)

CeraVe Lotion

Honeyskin Face & Body Cream

(Here's where I'd put on SPF, but I'm kind of having a hard time with that one right now. Lately my EltaMD UV Clear 46 has been burning a little, going to wait a bit to add it back in to see if it causes a reaction after I'm feeling solid about my routine)

PM

Wash with CeraVe

Apply Cliradex Foam to my eye area

Use the horse gel all over my face

I've only done this 4 nights/days now, and already my face is much smoother and the inflammation is down quite a bit. It for sure is not painful anymore. I'm cautiously optimistic.

sounds like you just have a dry skintype with an oily T-zone, which is really common. i’d recommend getting a simple cleanser (I always recommend neutrogena and think this might be a good fit: https://www.amazon.in/Neutrogena-Free-Acne-Face-175ml/dp/B006LXDMCS) and an SPF 15 lotion (just remember to buy from the skincare aisle! not all sunscreen is best for face application) to apply after washing in the morning. At night you can apply a layer of moisturizer (i think gel moisturizers are worth more than light lotions and this is a pretty good one that won’t break the bank: https://www.amazon.in/Garnier-Moisture-Refreshing-Gel-Cream-1-70-Fluid/dp/B003RF82UK)

Use your mother's words against her. If she wants to say those things, then here mom, I need these products.
Elf products are cheap, that blemish roller is 2 or 3$. They also have other great face products, not just makeup, at amazing prices. You can check them out online https://www.elfcosmetics.com/ . Witch hazel is about the same as the roller.
You can go to the dollar store and get the face wash. The moisturizer, I used to use clean and clear acne/blemish control, whatever it was called, moisturizer. It is a grey bottle with a purple top and purple lettering.
On the slightly more expensive side, yet lasts long as a moisturizer, Garnier gel moisturizer. 24hrs. Yes. Kept you moisturized for 24hrs.

Ok, the price for that is for 3. The regular price, Walmart, runs about the same as the gel.

Don't use soap, unless that's a first step to get extra crap off your face.

Have it and love it! Would recommend getting Benton Snail Bee Steam Cream if you like that kind of product (snail extract). It's calming & gets rid of redness/CCs like the Mizon Recovery Cream Gel. I use them both and my skin is extra happy this winter.

u/jixie007 · 3 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

IDK if you'll ever find exactly what you're looking for, because the "grippy" feeling is probably your skin stripped of natural oils, which is what the lotion is replacing. That said, here are my two suggestions:

  1. Look for moisturizing gels instead of lotions.

  • My holy grail hand "lotion" is Neutrogena Norwegian Formula Hand Cream which is more like a gel. It's non-greasy but may still have a "powdery" finish, I don't remember.

  • Clean & Clear Morning Burst Hydrating Gel Moisturizer feels like nothing's there. It's technically a face moisturizer but no reason you couldn't use on your hands. It's very light, personally not moisturizing enough for me, but might work for you.

  • Or try an aloe vera gel (like what you get for sun burns). Aloe tends to dry "tacky" and might be close to what you're looking for.

  1. The skin on the back of your hand is thin, but your palms are the second thickest skin on your body (heel is thickest). It's fine to just apply lotion to the back your hand and avoid the palm. I would still apply lotion all over (including palms) before bed, when it doesn't matter if they're greasy.
u/katnip86 · 1 pointr/tretinoin

The only issue with using the retinoid + benzoyl combo is dryness. I think there is some research showing that benzoyl peroxide reduces the effectiveness of retinoids but that is only if they are applied at the same time. So by using the wash off version of benzoyl peroxide you eliminate the possibility of them coming into contact with each other, does that make sense? I think using the retinoid 3x a week is enough.

Using these two products has caused some dryness issues for me but I much prefer that to acne. I have a pretty intense moisturizing routine that I built thanks to r/asianbeauty but the two things that I absolutely can't do without are Benton Steam Cream and Aquaphor. I apply the Benton lotion morning and night and add the Aquaphor only at night.

ETA yes you can absolutely try this out for a month or two and then reassess your progress. Getting my acne under control has been about a two year process but it has been so worth it!

Since you are a fan is Cosrx, have you looked into [Cosrx] Oil-Free Ultra-Moisturizing Lotion . I don't have the same skin type and it wasn't enough for me, but friends with oily skin have reported success. Light texture would be great for daily use but not sure how it would hold up with the tret, etc.

u/miscakes · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

I would really recommend getting better face wash, especially since you're buying Paula's Choice which isn't cheap. Cheap face soap options:

  • CosRX low pH

  • Equate or Neutrogena Oil Free Acne Wash

  • Cetaphil

  1. Super Booster would go after face wash and before toner
  2. Yes, I would suggest using the AHA at night, but since you're using a sunscreen it's not as big of a deal. If not, it would go after the Super Booster and before the toner.
  3. These are great for acne that has it's head (i.e. extractable). They suck out most of the goo, no extraction required, overnight (but I extract first because I'm bad too!). Otherwise, you could reapply a little of the AHA as a spot treatment, or get a salicylic acid spot treatment.
  4. I would recommend repurchasing if it works for you until your skin is used to the new products. However, it looks like a relatively simple ingredients formula. I'm on the snail train with /r/AsianBeauty, you could look there for possible new moisturizers. I recently bought cosRX's Oil-Free Ultra-Moisturizing Lotion with Birch Sap which is a light moisturizer. You may want to look towards moisturizers with more humectant ingredients (more moisturizing) if your skin feels tight or dry.

After researching a bit online I decided to start using a retinol cream. I'm 25, so I don't have any wrinkles yet, but I still get some acne and I have heard retinol creams can be good for that.

I use a plain untreated konjac sponge with a foaming cleanser from Beyond (a Korean brand) and an oil cleanser (also from Beyond) to wash my face twice a day. During the day I use Beyond Aqua BB Cream with SPF 30 (this is one of the only Korean brands that I have found to be cruelty free, so I use a lot of their stuff, haha.) Most of my other makeup is Kat Von D and Physicians Formula from the US if that makes a difference. I use mud masks and sheet masks off and on.

I have been using this retinol cream from Lilyana Naturals on my face and it tingled the first few times I used it, but I haven't encountered any peeling issues and after using it for 9 weeks, and my face looks really nice. Some of my acne seems to be clearing up and when I wake up my skin is firm and smooth, not oily. Since I have had such good luck with the first cream, I decided that maybe I needed a dedicated eye cream, so I randomly picked this one up at a department store. The first time I used it IT BURNED. It wasn't just a tingle, it really felt unpleasant. I washed it off and put a cloth under eye treatment on that I had lying around to soothe my skin.

Now, you guys might think this is stupid, but about a week later I decided to try using it a few more times since I have heard retinol creams can burn and I don't really like throwing away products. In the morning after using it, the circles under my eyes are nice, not red, very smooth. It still hurts when I apply it, so I'm wondering if this is supposed to happen. I have used the other cream in the same under eye area without any burning. It seems obvious that I should stop using the under eye cream and just use the original Lilyana Retinol cream that I purchased from Amazon all over my face, but I still want to know if the burning is normal. It doesn't seem like I am allergic since I haven't encountered any redness or bumps from the cream. I just don't know if it's one of those magical things like glycolic masks or garlic masks that are kind of supposed to sting, or if something very bad is happening that warrants throwing the bottle out.

Anyway, I hope this question isn't too stupid. Thank you in advance to anyone who can answer, and I hope I gave enough information.

Hi, I'm new to all of this. I'm going to purchase these items - probably tomorrow. I'm aware that I have to start with baby steps. I've read that I should start using only the moisturizer then slowly add the others so I see which product responds well with my skin and to make sure to patch test.

I'm just not sure how to put these in a AM and PM format, mind helping me out so when it's time to use all of this in a routine, I'm more confident in what I'm doing, please?

Top Skin Concern: My skin isn't really smooth or clear. I have blackheads and maybe tiny whiteheads, but there around my whole face like super tiny pimple rocks. It doesn't like bad, only when I'm close up the mirror. I also break out around my check and mouth area.

Doc here. You should use an SPF 100 sunscreen every day. Even incidental exposure to UV radiation (sun) can damage the skin and cause it to age prematurely. Most sunscreens have a moisturizer component. The roughness you describe is probably from dry skin, so a moisturizer is definitely a must. Most higher-end moisturizers aren't greasy. You may also benefit from a retinol cream (at least for the face), which stimulates the production of new skin cells. As a general rule, you should always apply any moisturizer immediately after showering and drying. It will help it absorb better.

I use Neutrogena SPF 100+ every day on my face and body after my morning shower. And I add on a retinol cream for my face after both my morning shower and after my evening shower. The results have been pretty good.

I am just now starting out with AB (I have a proper cleansing oil and a moisturizer in transit), and while my skin is okay and I even sometimes get compliments on it, I'd love to figure out what these tiny bumps are and how to get my skin to be much much smoother. I have no known allergies. I also have large pores that I'd love to shrink down. Any ideas??

I use the [Etude House Sweet Recipe Baby Choux Base in Mint Choux] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DQGUTE2/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1) as a base and LOVE it for reducing redness all over when I have too many spots to feel like covering each individually with concealer. But it definitely gives you white cast/makes you look like a zombie, so it can't be used on its own, needs a cushion or something over it.

u/R2-B2 · 3 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

Your face sounds like mine, and I had been messing with my moisture barrier for too long. These two moisturizers have been a godsend for me:

(1) Rohto Hadalabo Gokujun Hyaluronic Lotion This isn't really a "moisturizer" per se, but it helps bring and keep moisture to the surface of the skin.

(2) Rohto Hada-Labo Shirojyun Arbutin Milk This is an emulsifier, technically, but on top of the hyaluronic lotion, it works as an amazing moisturizer.

u/lharvey95 · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

DONT go on Differin. I have dry/sensitive skin that breaks out and Differin was just way too much for me. Was on it for 90 days and my skin has legitimately never been worse. I kept thinking ok this is just an adjustment period like everyone talks about but truly the week I quit using it I could go back to not wearing makeup and feeling horrible about my face.

That being said, have you ever tried Avene? This moisturizer has been a godsend to me in terms of staying hydrated all day and all night. It really sinks in and actually heals my skin. I'm obsessed. Eau Thermale Avene Skin Recovery Cream, Sterile Face Moisturizer for Sensitive Skin, Fragrance, Paraben, Oil, Soy, Gluten Free, 1.6 oz.

Also, try getting rid of the Mario Badescu spray! It has a lot of crappy ingredients. There are other, more natural rose water sprays that might help

In this description it talks about how Illiyoon uses the Amorepacific ceramide technology so I don't think it's the same, but maybe similar.

https://incidecoder.com/products/illiyoon-ceramide-ato-concentrate-cream

The ingredient in the Illiyoon is called Hydroxypropyl Bispalmitamide MEA.

I have not tried the Eucerin cream, only because I would have to get it with international shipping from Europe and I struggle with things like that. I'm a big instant gratification person 😬 which is why I buy most of my skincare from Amazon Prime.

I think I'm going to order this: https://www.atopalm.com/Best_Moisturizer_Dry_Skin_p/75701.htm?CartID=1

They are having a 20% off Black Friday sale. I would love to get the Zeroid but it's a bit costly per oz for me. The MLE Intensive Moisturizing Cream looks good, and it's got the ceramide complex/MLE fourth on the ingredients list.

Found it on Amazon Prime too: Atopalm Intensive Moisturizing Cream, 3.4 fl. Ounce https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00110OK54/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_z8O4Db6PN68AC

My skin tends to burn whenever I apply most sunscreen. Especially chemical but also zinc/titanium blend physical ones too.

I like Josie Moran Argan Daily Moisturizer SPF 47. Very gentle and creamy, more lotion than sunscreen vibe, making it comfortable on my face. It got reformulated a while ago, which made it a bit too thick for my personal preference, so I moved on, but it’s still a solid spf.

Currently I use [Elta MD Daily SPF 40](EltaMD UV Daily Facial Sunscreen Broad-Spectrum SPF 40, 1. 7 oz https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00464EC1E/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_BcHKBb9M446KX), and it never irritates my face. A little shiny but no white cast. It’s not especially moisturizing on its own though.

u/AKmomof4 · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

I think I'm going to go with the Sebamed Fragrance Free Gentle Face and Body Hydrating Cleanser from the rec sheet and a konjac sponge. This came up in my recommendations:
Retinol Cream Moisturizer
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01ES349CY/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3AIHG9BVO4YOP

If I decide to step up to that, is a combo cream like this a good idea? They seem to have a vitamin C version too lots of reviewers use along with it. Basically I'm trying to find ways to combine steps so I'm not using a gajillion products lol

u/bbynug · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

If the retinol isn't irritating the skin around your eyes then it's probably fine for the rest of your face. The eye area has the thinnest and most sensitive skin on the face. But, as always, pay attention to what your skin is doing. If it's irritated by the retinol, discontinue. Good luck with everything!

Edit: Just went through my cabinet and wanted to recommend CeraVe Skin Renewing Serum. It's 1% retinol and I've found it to be very gentle. It's really more of a creamy serum than a watery serum if consistency is a concern of yours. It has the ceramides and other goodies that CeraVe is known for. It's also an inexpensive drugstore product! Might be a good place to start.

  • Usually I pull my hair back in a loose ponytail or messy bun, but if I need it to look professional and I don't have a lot of time, especially if it's wet, I put it up in an octopus clip.

  • Multivitamin! My cuticles thank me for this.

  • This moisturizer works really well for me. It's one of the only ones I've found that doesn't feel heavy and leave an oily residue, even among so called "light" moisturizers. It absorbs quickly, smells good, and feels really soothing.

  • Keeping your eyebrows groomed really helps to look put together.

  • If you get really dry skin in a certain spot (my elbows get really bad sometimes) put chapstick on it.

Oil cleanser --> Foaming cleanser --> hydrating toner in the moist or light version --> emulsion --> cream

The Gokujyun range gets translated in all sorts of weird and wonderful ways, so it can get a little confusing. The name 'Gokujyun' simply means 'super hydrating', all of the products contain hyaluronic acid, and the range consists of the clear, hydrating 'lotion' (what is known in Western countries as a 'toner'), an emulsion/milk, which looks and feels like a thin Western moisturizer (it's white, and comes in a smaller bottle than the lotion) and then the gel-cream hybrid 'cream'.

Edited to add: you don't have to use every step from the range. You can use them in conjunction with products from other brands/ranges.

u/missprecocious · 2 pointsr/TrollXOver30

I've recently switched to all natural skin care. I've used La Mer at $250 per pot and I find the stuff I use now to be just as good and with fewer breakouts and irritation. Here's the moisturizer and retinol I use it that doesn't break the bank and is cruelty-free:

Retinol | Moisturizer.

Here's photo of my skin after using it for a couple weeks

Good luck!

u/cleverpseudoname · 2 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

Green makeup bases can help a lot if you have large red areas. Here's a nice one from Etude House, and here's even a newer travel-friendly product of the same idea. I would focus on red-cancelling primers and bases before I turned to concealer or eyeshadow, especially for your cheeks.

These are just the products I have experience with, but I know for a fact there are quite a few products out there that could help you out. I hope you find one that works for you!

u/savage_in_a_sundress · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

The only one I've personally used is the Hada Labo. And my pores usually clear after a few days to a week of my normal cleansing routine; adding a BHA product can help clear clogged pores faster.

Aside: Super helpful list of water soluble + insoluble silicones. I try to avoid pretty much all of the insoluble ones except in sunscreen where they're usually necessary for water resistance.

u/fatmama923 · 2 pointsr/makeupexchange

This is it. I got it at walmart, but i'm pretty sure you could get it just about anywhere that carries stuff like this

u/Nekkosan · 1 pointr/AsianBeauty

Yes, it's just translation. It's the same. There are different versions. The light version has more greet here. Not to mention an anti aging (red) and brightening (blue) and a new Premium (gold) which is super moist.

u/fabulosity · 2 pointsr/TwoXChromosomes

[this] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00110OK54) stuff is awesome! I too have had KP forever. This winter I noticed my arms had both KP and eczema (super attractive, ugh!)- BUT the awesome part is that the lotion that clears up the dry scaly patches, also cleared up my KP! It comes back if I slack off too much with the lotion, but let me tell you, I haven't had clear arms like this ever. It's kinda pricey but a little goes a long way. I put it on right after the shower (and before bed in the winter).

u/ghostkatie · 1 pointr/AsianBeauty

At what step do I use this lotion in my skincare routine?

I usually follow a pretty lengthy process including:
Oil cleanser
Second cleanser
Toner/toner lotion
Actives
Face oil
Moisturizer
Heavier sleeping mask/pack if skin is feeling super dry

u/LWASucy · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

Yeah I do wish mine came in a larger pack. I would say make the switch because of "cruelty free" but I actually learned Simple brand is not, which was a surprise to me! No, I already ordered Nature Republic Super Aqua Max Combination Watery Cream since they had Amazon Prime shipping, and besies their good reviews, I was just wondering if anyone on AB had a good experiences with them.

u/LilyeaneBlack · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

ya PC does not like it - it took a lot for me to break down and buy this stuff especially since i didn't have access to a tester and with my skin being so sensitive ...the fear...

PC didn't like it bc of the added fragrance - but it has not bothered me. "allegedly" their fragrance is supposed to be no-irritating (it hasn't irritated me yet..yet)

You can also try their gentle milk cleanser - also a bit pricey - but worked well. I use this 2xs a week - the other days i OCM with mineral oil.

I tested both of the products at the same time and they are now a staple of my routine.

They do have this Skin recovery cream that i also like - no fragrance - this the the product that made me try their other stuff.

u/mixtapelovesongs · 6 pointsr/30PlusSkinCare

I would recommend exfoliating first. Maybe try a scrub with an oil base that will also moisturize. Look for lotions with ceramides and hyaluronic acid. I think Cerave makes a super heavy duty cream that you can use for your body.

You could also check in with r/AsianBeauty folks.

I would suggest something like this for your face:

u/fancyfrog · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

I had eczema on my face last year and had a lot of symptoms similar to yours!

I think /u/Quolli is correct in saying that you need to repair your moisture barrier. If this is the case, try unscented pure mineral oil! It is made of the same ingredient as Vaseline (as Quolli suggested) and was the only thing that gave me relief for a while! I got my skin under control using mainly mineral oil, Vaseline, and Avene Thermal Water.

For a moisturizer I alternated between Eucerine, Gold Bold, and ended up really liking Avene's Skin Recovery Cream for dry skin. It's what I'm using now and is intended for skin that has become irritated. I use it every day and love it!

My skin problems are basically non-existent now, apart from the odd time that something irritates it (chemicals, dust, etc). Just make sure that you keep everything clean and try not to rub/physically exfoliate/pull on your skin until it heals!

Edit: Check out some of the reviews for Avene Skin Recovery Cream on Amazon! I really think it could do wonders for you!

So many suggestions to make!

Vanicream is less irritating than CeraVe in the tub.

At night I layer Rohto Hadalabo Shirojyun Albutin Milk underneath Sebamed Clear Face Gel. If you're still not getting enough moisture, put a little Vaseline on top to seal everything in while you sleep.

Good luck!

u/onemantwohands · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

I used to be like this, but I slather Cerave on at night before bed so I just assumed it was a combo of super oily skin, and lotion. I started to use Retinol Cream and the very next day I woke up, and my skin was not oily, but seemed normal!

u/eperdu · 1 pointr/AsianBeauty

I've been using a lactic acid serum (8.5% lactic acid and 1.5% salicylic acid at pH 3.6) for exfoliating, predominantly, and I use it daily. I've been happy with it overall. But I've switched the rest of my skincare over to AB products and would like to switch this out as I'm nearing the end of the bottle.

I like daily exfoliating otherwise my skin is just flaky and rough. I have some hyperpigmentation going on as well so my main skin concerns are keeping the flakies away, smoothing the skin, and keeping the darkened skin at bay. I am not looking for miracles and am not looking to add multiple products.

I was eyeing the CosRX Whitehead as a replacement but am not sure that's exactly right.

Current routine (inasmuch as I have a routine):

Banila Clean It Zero Sherbet (3-5 times a week)
CeraVe cleanser (either gentle or foaming, depending on how dry I feel)
LacSal Serum -or-
CeraVe Serum

[Mizon Snail Recovery Gel Cream] (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BQM3S3C)
Mizon Black Snail All In One Cream

I will typically do this every other day (the full thing) or I splash with water and use of the serums and moisture on the off days. I am really bad with routines and dislike using a lot of product so this is where I've settled and I love how my skin looks, overall, I just need a replacement for the serum. I'm using up the CeraVe products and will switch those out when empty.

The Nature Republic Aqua Watery Creams are a good example: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008191D30/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_1avGzbJ0SSZMQ

In western skincare, Lancome makes this one:

And of course Biore Watery Essence sunscreen: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MTDFFQ5/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_VgvGzbYYJJ0FY

All of them seem to be some variant on water + cream/moisturizer/essence to describe the texture, I was just wondering whether there was a term I could punch into Google/Amazon to look for this specific texture, because it seems to be the best way to deliver hydration to my skin.

This makes me wish the La Roche Posay Iso Urea I tried a few years ago didn't have such a strong fragrance. It is literally the only LRP product I've tried with any fragrance. Anyone out there who has used La Roche Posay Iso Urea in the past few months -- does it still have a strong fragrance? During the day I use Instanatural's hyaluronic acid gel cream. Light moisturizers with a gel texture have been the best daytime options for my combination skin.

Finding a night moisturizer that didn't exacerbate my acne was more of a lengthy trial-and error period for me. I've been using Baebody's retinol moisturizer and it hasn't increased my breakouts at all. I think there are quite a few near-identical retinol products on the market as well.

If you're only having to deal with acne and dryness, and your skin is otherwise holding up well, you're probably fine just using a gel moisturizer morning and night.

Clean & Clear makes a gel moisturizer that is really affordable. I have used it and I found it to be more moisturizing than other gels without being too heavy or breaking me out. Before I got started on tretinoin most moisturizers clogged my pores. Here it is on amazon. http://www.amazon.com/Clean-Clear-Morning-Hydrating-Moisturizer/dp/B00EQWWYQ6

If you search retinol moisturizer on amazon you will literally find this exact same product and bottle being sold under different brands.

I’m pretty sure it’s one of those scenarios where companies pay the same “supplier” for the right to slap their name on the same generic product. I have no idea how effective it is, but I would be careful with retinols.

My skin has been ok for me so far. I have had bad skin and suffered from acne for over 17 years. I think I finally found what works for me and I have already checked with my Dr. to make sure I can continue my normal skin care routine. I do have some chest acne but it's not too bad.

I did notice that many of the ladies on here have commented about dry skin. I had dry skin too for a looong time (pre-pregnancy of course). I tried so many moisturizers. Drugstore to high end and nothing worked. Then, some one on makeup alley suggested this!

It is a game changer! Very few ingredients, lasts forever as you only need a pea size amount and very affordable!

I also use a clarisonic every other night and it helps a lot. I know that is a pricy item and I probably would not buy one just for pregnancy but it works for me so I wanted to throw that out there.

Issue: I need a good sunscreen, preferably one that dries matte (or as close as I can reasonably get).

Yup it's the gold bottle. Here are some links for your reference.

This is the Premium one in a gold bottle with the much thicker consistency.

This is the Hada Labo Moist which is less thicker than the Premium

I'll also include the Hada Labo Light since people often get confused between this and the moist. As its name implies, this toner/lotion is just like water, light enough to easily ne absorbed by the skin.

Dry-skinned people would tend to go for the moist while oily-skinned people could benefit more from the light. I could also see myself using the light one during humid summer days.

Mine is the same way in the morning, wish it was like that all the time! Skin repairs itself while we sleep at night, and throughout the day a lot of stressors on the skin cause it to look crappier. The weather, air conditioning or heating, our emotional state, water intake, stress, and sun exposure all can contribute to redness and general crappiness.

So that might be why when you feel tired it looks worse, but I'm not aware of a direct affect.

If it isn't rosacea, you might just have sensitive skin and "thin skin" which is common in very pale people showcases blood vessels because they are sitting closer to the skin's surface.

Also, I don't think I could find the post now that /u/ieatbugs has been permabanned, but she made one a few months ago showing her skin over the past 5 years or so. Starting out really persistently red, and then improving vastly since she started wearing a sunscreen every morning. It turned out the sun exposure was just irritating her skin and leading to the redness. Not a sunburn mind you, just the heat/exposure to the rays itself was bothering her skin. So that might be something to try.

These two sunscreens are the bomb for sensitive skin if you want to try one. They may take a few minutes to soak in so don't apply RIGHT before you need to be somewhere, but they will look nice and not greasy. They're very light.

I'm sure it's been discussed here before, but why is the pricing for Missha's FTE so drastically different?

It's less than $25 on Amazon and Target

I like this product. It's a gel and very lightweight--feels like I am applying slightly sticky water, and then once it is dry I don't notice it anymore.

For the etude house collagen sleeping pack you recommend, do you use this one or this one ? I'd like to try it

Foaming cleansers are second cleansers. You can use it in the shower if you want when you wash your face probably won't make much difference plus it is less messy and saves water.

I'm in the same boat, oily T-zone and dry cheeks. I put the moisturizer all over everywhere because it seems to not cause my skin to get even more oily, plus my face is super soft.

Not as far as I know.

The tube is only $10 off Amazon and lasts quite some time because you don't need much. It's got a melty texture, like warms up really fast like coconut oil, but it's not liquidy if that makes sense?

Ms JessicaDiamonds,

I am in this thread here:https://www.reddit.com/r/Rosacea/comments/an7pk9/last_monday_vs_this_monday_only_4_days_on/

All I saw is you are using Ivermectin. From what I have learned in Reddit's 'UX' from this thread I didn't figure out what medium you are using Ivermectin with? It could be horse paste or it could be Soolantra. I have 'bothered' to try to figure this out and spent time going through the above thread and couldn't find what Ivermectin treatment you are using. If you look at this thread DABReddit says, "I have type two and use Soolantra and Finacia each once per day" who also mentions Soolantra as I did. Can you see, since I am new to Reddit, and I couldn't find what 'Ivermectin' treatment and concluded it was Soolantra that I am simply trying to help and I am not chastising you, that I am volunteering with links to demodectic rosacea treatments which includes ivermectin and other possible treatments? I am so glad you are having success with your ivermectin treatment. I finally discovered in your first post you are using "Durvet Ivermectin Apple Flavored Gel (called horse paste, but not paste, and it's a bit stick for daytime, so I only put a small amount) and CeraVe Lotion Honeyskin Face & Body Cream." I apologize for missing this earlier. Please indulge me with forgiveness for missing this. I have learned now that you have to carefully look at the poster's name, the date the post is published, and how the replies are also dated differently, and how the 'UX' works. Different from the forum style posting I am familiar with, you know what I mean, the 'UX'. Still haven't figured out what the red and gray arrows do.

I would personally recommend Benton's Snail Bee High content Steam Cream. There's no fragrance, it's very moisturizing but non-greasy and more importantly it sinks in/absorbs quickly and isn't heavy feeling. It's also only $12.50 on amazon right now!

Should I continue to use the Cetaphil cleanser in my PM routine?

I'm a little unsure about the sunscreen I picked out; I spend most of my day indoors at work. I'm currently living in the bay area in California and will be heading back down to the central coast for school. The FAQ mentions that I should reapply the sunscreen every 1-2 hours. Is this necessary even if I'm almost always staying indoors (aside from a 30 minutes commute to and back from work)?

Also, I had difficulty finding any information regarding acne topicals in the sidebar. I ended up picking this one.

My new schedule looks like this:

AM:

  • Splash with water/rinse
  • Moisturize with CeraVe
  • Apply sunscreen

    PM:

  • Rinse
  • Apply Cetaphil cleanser
  • Use Acne Topical
  • Moisturize

I intend to introduce each product in the following order: moisturizer, sunscreen, and finally acne topical. Please let me know if there's a more optimal order.

EDIT: I also shave on a daily basis which I intend to do before my PM routine. I'm also unsure about the amount I'm supposed to use for the moisturizer and sunscreen.

I'm losing hope. I'm 32 years old and I've had acne my whole life, but this is much different than normal acne.

I've had two dermatologists wave my concerns away. Both only suggested hair removal, but that's very expensive. My skin is very sensitive and oily. I also have very thick curly hair. This hair also happens to bless my face and certain spots get horrible ingrown hairs. I know it's not really have acne, as each eruption won't heal until the offending hair is completely removed. There's usually lymph fluids as well as solid white materials when purged. As soon as the dark hair is removed, the eruption heals up. The skin around my mouth and chin is mostly effected, but my checks also get infected ingrown hairs.

I shave my face every day (I'm a woman and the hairs are very visible on my pale skin) with a sharp executive dollarshaveclub.com razor that sit in barbacide when not in use and a shaving oil designed to guard against ingrown hairs. I dip the razor into hot water in between strokes. I can't really shave with or against the grain as the hair grows in crazy directions. I change the razor blade weekly.

I tried using Head and Shoulders, thinking maybe it was a fungal thing, but that didn't really helped. These ingrown infections come on with no rhthym or reason, so I don't think it's hormonally related, also I have had several scans and tests that cleared me of PCOS. I've also used physical exfoliation, no luck. These ingrown hairs make me look terrible and have already seriously damaged my skin. After being turned away by the doctors, I found this sub and I'm hoping you guys can help. I've followed the basic skincare list and nothing works. I'm getting married in a few months and I really don't want to look like a pizza face. Please help!

Here's a list of everything I've tried recently:Kerah Lane Razor Bump & Ingrown Hair Formula

The Ordinary Peeling Solution 30ml AHA 30% + BHA 2% (this helped briefly, but the eruptions came roaring back after a week of clear skin and it hasn't helped since)

Glycolic Facial Cleanser

Retinol Serum 2.5% with Hyaluronic Acid

LilyAna Naturals Retinol Cream Moisturizer 1

Right now I'm just washing with Bronner's soap, using Thayer's Rose Witch Hazel and finishing with a Cevera lotion. It's also not helping, but I don't know if anything ever will.

u/MKibby · 2 pointsr/popping

Aww I'm sorry! Wait, are they like under your lower eyelid? I think I have those too! I've tried to pop them but they're really hard to do, which I'm weirdly okay with because if they were easy and satisfying I'd probably mitilate myself. I'm working on not taking popping too far. :/

Oh but also, when I used this moisturizer before bed, they started to smooth out and almost go away. I got lazy and stopped using it, but maybe it could help you. LilyAna Naturals Retinol Cream Moisturizer 1.7 Oz https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01ES349CY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_BfFCCbYNMAY6G

You're looking in the wrong section. They're not called moisturizers over here, they're usually called "lotions" or something similar. You can check /r/AsianBeauty and Google for the different names- I just woke up with a nice headache so I'm only willing to do so much.

Personally this is what I use. It doesn't irritate my skin and is quite a popular item, iirc. It's watery, not like Western moisturier, but a little bit will go a long way.

It's been 4 months and I've spent so much money too.. I also went to 4 derms, but all of them didn't help. I just commented this on your post, but the only product that doesn't hurt me right now is the Avene skin recovery cream. I hasn't helped rebuild my moisture barrier, but at least it doesn't hurt me as much as all the other products do. I didn't have acne for the past year, but my face is breaking out like crazy now :( It really sucks.. I think it's cause of the broken moisture barrier which made my skin really dehydrated and oily. Also the micro scars made my skin texture really bumpy and weird.. I'm really out of things to try now so I've kind of given up.

u/LaurelsMeanGlory · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddicts

You're welcome!! I'm so glad I could help :)

I very much feel your pain. Haha I came out of haunting reddit to be all 'corporeal form activate!!1' ;D

The trick seems to be going in gently with the actual cleansers--to not piss off the dry/sensitivity, which takes everything the wrong way and sits around literally waiting for a fight--and then bringing one big extremely straightforward KAPOW punch each time to take care of the breakouts/skin not turning over. (SUPER focused punch, unable to be misinterpreted, i.e. Retin-A/salicylic acid/Salux cloth)

Everything will stop freaking out and going into both extremes, and that turnover punch will SEVERELY cut down the breakouts. I still get them, because of course I do. But it isn't even 10% of what I used to fight with. It isn't even really a fight anymore.

Also, for trail and error experimenting to add on to your routine and find different ways to make the hateful anger stfu --> /r/AsianBeauty/ is always my first route. The technology and advancement is kind of mind-blowing.

My newest discovery. A keeper. I'm keeping it in the arsenal.
