Top Reddit comments about Facial Night Creams:

  • Oil Cleanser (Nighttime Only): Innisfree Apple Juicy Cleansing Oil $17.99; oil cleanser helps to melt off makeup and sunscreen and emulsifies with water for a clean finish. Note: You don't have to use a special oil cleanser, you can also use grapeseed oil, additive-free mineral oil, jojoba oil, or olive oil, just be aware you will typically require a second cleanse to completely remove the oil from your face. I personally use neem oil which is antimicrobial and antifungal because of adult acne, but it is a drying face oil.

  • Cleanser: CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser $11-17; has ceramides, glycerin, and hyaluronic acid. Has the appropriate 4.5 pH necessary for cleansers.

  • Serum: OST Pure Vitamin C Serum $18.49; will help with evening and brightening skin tone, complexion clarity, and anti-aging -- requires long-term consistent use to see max benefit.

  • Hydrating Toner: Rohto Hadalabo Gokujyn Hyaluronic Acid Lotion (Moist) $17.54; contains hyaluronic acid and other hyaluronates, helps to lock liquid in skin, try to apply to slightly damp skin to max benefit. The HA needs moisture to grab onto and some people experience drying if they apply a product with high HA on dry skin.

  • Hydrating Serum: Benton Snail Bee High Content Essence $17; contains snail secretion filtrate, aloe, glycerin, arbutin, naturally derived salicylic acid, and azelaic acid (review here for more info on ingredients}, helps with wound healing, redness, lightning PIH, and soothing inflammation.

  • Face Oil: Pura d'or 100% Pure & USDA Organic Argan Oil $19.99; high in fatty acids which helps moisturize and soothe irritated and dry skin, optional vendor: Garden of Wisdom. Note: A good face oil is a trial and error thing, you may prefer: avocado oil, passionfruit seed oil, rosehip seed oil, etc. Certain oils are more drying, others are richer and more moisturizing. You may have to engage in some research and experimentation to find which is right for you and most can be found for under $20 if you look.

  • Emulsion/Milk (Daytime Only): Hada-Labo Shirojyun Arbutin Milk $16.35; High hyaluronic acid and glycerin content, is slightly richer than the toner previously listed and can be used as a daytime moisturizer underneath your sunscreen. Arbutin is a skin-lightening ingredient that evens skin tone and fades PIH, but you can get Rohto Hada-Labo Gokujun Hyaluronic Acid Milk $15.86; which is the same thing but without the arbutin.

  • Sunscreen (Daytime Only): Up to you, one of the trickier products out there and I assume you have something you like already. Asian sunscreens tend to have a better cosmetic finish but rely on chemical sunscreen ingredients. I personally use EltaMD UV Lotion Broad-Spectrum SPF 30+ which is marketed for body but has the same ingredients as EltaMD's facial sunscreen.

  • Moisturizing Cream (Nighttime Only): Benton Snail Bee High Content Steam Cream $17.00; Contains snail secretion filtrate, peptides, fatty acid rich oils, and niacinamide to help moisturize, prevent water loss, and encourage wound-healing. One of the richest face creams I've personally tried with good ingredients for the price. For details on the ingredients, see here. Remember if your T-zone is oily, you don't have to apply it there!

Option 2: EltaMD PM Therapy Moisturizer $22.13; high in niacinamide and linoleic acid to help restore skin's moisture. May need the aid of an occlusive like Vaseline or a sleeping pack (see below).

  • Special - Sleeping Pack: Option 1 Mizon Multi Function Formula Snail Wrinkle Care Sleeping Pack $14.98; Option 2 Etude House Moistfull Collagen Sleeping Pack $15.96; Option 3 Laneige Water Sleeping Pack EX $33.99; Sleeping packs are extra rich creams which go on top of all your other skin care at night to give you an extra boost in moisture. Similar to people putting a thin layer of Vaseline on at night, you put a thin layer of the sleeping pack on and sleep with it over night 2-3 times a week as needed. They're more of an extra thing, not an every day thing, much like a face mask.

That is an example of a moisturizing and non-irritating East Asian skincare routine using products that are all $20 or under each (barring a couple options), each with good hydrating and anti-inflammatory actives. Almost all are available through Amazon or through a singular vendor like W2Beauty which usually has coupon codes and can combine shipping. Target will carry the Laneige line in stores, but it is more a mid-price range. I can't personally guarantee they'll work for you, but the starting points are all there for you to do the research yourself if need be.

Awww, I know that feel completely.

I've never tried any Tatcha products, however... I have been in the market for an enzyme cleanser lately, and the one I'm looking at is often cited as a great dupe of the Tatcha Rice Enzyme Cleanser in the Amazon reviews- the SRB Stabilized Rice Bran Enzyme Cleanser, $25 on Amazon or Peach & Lily. I first saw this in a Liah Yoo video and I guess due to the kinda bland packaging it's not very popular, but the reviews on Amazon and Amabie are excellent. Apparently the product is extremely gentle and the ingredients list is pretty short, so it might be ideal for you. :)

https://www.amazon.com/Rice-Bran-Cleanses-Brightens-Exfoliates/dp/B01DZDIJSS

Honestly, I'm kind of an AB noob myself, because although I research many products, I don't really have that much $$ to spend on products and try them. Since you have sensitive skin, maybe try a balm cleanser? They're apparently very nourishing and the Banila Co Clean It Zero Sensitive formula has great reviews. Renee from Gothamista has also recommended the Heimish Cleansing Balm (it has donkey milk and she's butter, oh my gosh) and I believe her skin type is also dry-sensitive.

Looking at the ingredients in the serum and cream, they seem somewhat similar to the Nature Republic Royal Ginseng line, all the way from the rice, royal jelly, ginseng, sodium hyaluronate, and silk extracts to the 24k gold. This line is very expensive as well, but may be less problematic to you.

The top, likely active, ingredients in the Serum are Algae Extract and Rice Extract and in the cream the Saccharomyces Ferment Filtrate is the number 1 ingredient, so I think you should start looking for serums and creams high in those actives, as those are the highest concentrated ingredients in the Tatcha moisturizing products.

I couldn't find much with Algae Extract that was a moisturizer, except one Nature Republic Eye Cream, the Collagen dream eye cream.

https://www.amazon.com/NATUREREPUBLIC-Collagen-Dream-Cream-Korean/dp/B00H4HD25W

The second ingredient, the Saccharomyces Ferment Filtrate, is very interesting because it actually used to be the active ingredient of the famous SK-II Essence, before it was replaced by the very similar Galactomyces Ferment Filtrate. This Ingredient is likely going to be much easier to find in an essence rather than a moisturizing cream. I know that the Missha First Treatment Essence has Saccharomyces but I'm also including a link/list of SK-II dupes that contain either Galactomyces or Saccharomyces as they are very similar, and because many of the other SK-II dupes are actually cheaper (the Missha is around $50), including the CosRx Galactomyces which is only $15.

http://musicalhouses.blogspot.com/2016/01/sk-ii-facial-treatment-essence-dupe.html?m=1

https://sokoglam.com/products/time-revolution-first-treatment-essence

https://www.amazon.com/Cosrx-Galactomyces-Whitening-Power-Essence/dp/B00OZE57XW

The last ingredient, Rice Extract, is present in an insane 65% potency in the CosRx Ultimate Nourishing Rice Mask, which is also a cult favorite on Reddit. And, it's less than $15.

https://www.amazon.com/Cosrx-Ultimate-Nourishing-Rice-Overnight/dp/B01518D84U

Lastly, I saw sodium hyaluronate, or hyaluronic acid, in both the serum and cream, so if I were you, I'd invest in the cult favorite, Hada Labo Gokujyun Lotion. I have the Premium version, and it really is wonderful and leaves your skin firm and hydrated, and is a great way to get in extra moisture before your cream.
Hada Labo Rohto Hadalabo Gokujun Hyaluronic Lotion Moist, 5.7 fl. oz. (170ml) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BSNBO9O/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_EZa8ybAC6S473

A final note: since your skin is sensitive, I would stay away from any artificial fragrance or irritants in any products. Hada Labo and Cosrx are both fragrance free companies that only use what they need to make the product effective. Again, check your ingredients at CosDna as well as reviews. Also many of these products are available cheaper on some other websites, I just chose who came up first. Generally, SokoGlam is a safer bet than Amazon because you won't get a fake product, but it's also slightly more expensive.

I know this is a long post but I also know how daunting the search for good, affordable skincare can be. Also, don't forget to wear sunscreen. There's no point in getting so many products just to negate their effects with UVA damage.

Best of Luck! <3

First off, that baking soda/lemon juice mask sounds so, so painful. Stop that. Read the beginner's guide on the sidebar!! It'll be so helpful. I feel the need to chime in here because I worked at a Chick-fil-a for a few years in undergrad and it was such a dark time for me and my skin. That's actually when I started to take my skincare seriously and, consequently, that's when I discovered this sub. Though I no longer work there, I remember that time clearly. What I REALLY wanted to tell you was to get away from the cotton undershirts. Food service is a very oily, sweaty environment (like I said, been there, done that), and that makes for a bad time on your skin. Here's what I recommend:

  • It's a pricey investment, but consider some of the under-armor stuff for your shirts. They'll wick off all that moisture, and they'll also last longer than those bulk cotton tees that everyone gets at Wal-Mart or whatever. Yes, you can wear it under your uniform (I did it all the time in marching band and at work, no one ever noticed). see edit 1 below
  • You didn't ask about feet/socks, but while I'm on that no-cotton train, get away from cotton socks. Your feet will thank me. I buy AND1 polyester blend socks that are like $6 for 3 pairs at Wal-Mart. More expensive, but I magically no longer had blisters on my feet from long work hours/running.
  • If you work long shifts (and they end up giving you your mandatory 15 or 30 minute break), bring travel tubes of face wash to work with you. Travel tubes are like $1 at Wal-Mart, probably the same or cheaper in other places like Target. Go to the bathroom during your breaks and rinse off your face and neck, pat dry off with a clean wash cloth from your house (not those scratchy paper towels in the bathroom). Bring a clean towel with you every day and keep it in a backpack or purse or whatever you take with you to work.
  • When you come home after work, take a shower. Wash your hair first, then your face (your hair will keep so much oil in it that it's not even funny, and when you wash your hair, it'll get on your face). Head over to /r/haircarescience if you want help there, by the way!! (I'm assuming you don't have ethnic hair - ignore me if you do, I only speak to my thick, Hispanic/white person hair habits and I don't really know how often you wash ethnic hair).
  • DON'T TOUCH YOUR FACE/ANYTHING. It's hard, but it really helps. Don't touch it, don't pick at it, just don't unless your hands are literally just-washed clean and you're admiring its softness. If you work in the kitchen, it's obvious why you shouldn't (get food or glove powder all over your face, bad) - but if you're a cashier, it's worse. None of your customers wash your hands, all of them pick their nose and lick their fingers and scratch their asses and all you do all day is take their dirty money. Think about that every time you look at your hands, be germophobic. Then stop touching your face!
  • P.S. my managers used to let me wear gloves at the register. Yes, I was that crazy. Yes, I kept a box of gloves under the register and wore them for my entire shift.
  • Drink lots of water. Don't drink the free sodas they give you (if they do), just drink water and stay hydrated. I don't know if it really makes a difference for your skin, but I like to think that it does (since it'll help you everywhere else).

As far as my skincare routine, before I started, I had really oily, acne-prone everything. Not the worst acne ever and definitely not as bad as some folks here have posted, but still pretty bad around my mouth/cheeks, and on my upper chest, between my boobs (wtf?), and on my back. The lifestyle stuff above really helped for my body acne. I'm gonna tell you what my routine is just because I know you might ask, but if you look at the sidebar for the basic stuff, it'll really help you. Turns out my skin was oily because it was dehydrated and felt the need to overcompensate. Moisturizing sounds counter-intuitive when you feel so greasy, but wash your face and do it anyway.

Morning: Wash with CeraVe hydrating facial cleanser, use one Stridex wipe on my face (in the red box), wait until it dries, use a pinky-tip sized amount of CeraVe moisturizing cream in a big round tub (16oz) for my face. If I have any pimples forming or red bumps or whatever, I use a generic brand 2.5% benzoyl peroxide cream on that part of my face. If I'm gonna leave the house, I use Neutrogena's breakout free sunscreen. These days, I'm in my grad office or I'm otherwise indoors 9 times out of 10.

Evening: Wash with CeraVe hydrating facial cleanser, then I use two pumps of this Olay stuff on my face. If you use that at night, please, please, please don't forget to use sunscreen the next day.

Every other week or whenever I feel like I'm getting cystic-style acne, I use Queen Helene's Mint Julep face masque (just put it on for like 10-15 minutes and wash it off, moisturize).

    --

ANYWAY. I hope that helps. I feel you and your food-service woes. Let me know if you have any questions.

edit 1: I just wanted to add this: Under armor makes shirts for the winter and shirts for the summer. You need to shop around, read the Amazon comments, and figure out which shirts are better for which temperatures, maybe get like, one or two at a time, set aside a bit of your budget every month to build up a collection (if you exercise/plan on sticking around in food service for a while, it'll be sooooooo worth it, trust me).
u/marley0609 · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddicts

I am very certain that you have dehydrated skin. Not the same as dry skin, though you may have that, too. Tight feeling skin, getting very oily very quickly, redness. Oily and dry at the same time. Your moisture barrier has been compromised. This will take time and patience to repair, but believe me, it is worth it. I once had very similar skin.

Fair warning, I myself use a mostly AB routine, and my product suggestions will reflect that.

Find a simple low pH cleanser. I like this one because it's cheap, easy to find, and lasts forever. Cleanse twice daily, with tepid water.

(I am a fan of the double cleansing method when wearing foundation and/or sunscreen. You can learn more about that here.)

Then I would work on finding light hydration that doesn't break you out. I have found that my skin absolutely loves multiple layers of light hydration. And that was key to restoring my barrier. Just putting one thick heavy layer didn't work because my skin couldn't/wouldn't do anything with it. But multiple light layers was something my skin could work with.

This, this, this, this, and this are all super suggestions. Pretty simple, basic, and gentle choices. No, you don't need to go buy all of them. Try one. See how your skin likes it after several weeks. Maybe add another. Or, some people like adding multiple layers of the same product.

Then find a humectant to layer on top, to seal moisture in. This is a very popular one. This, this, this, and this are all good choices.

Once you find a routine that your skin seems to like, stick with it for a few months. Like...3 to 6 months. It won't be an immediate fix. But over time you'll start to notice less of the tight feeling, less of the dry thin skin with an oil slick on top, less redness. Only then will you be able to see what your real skin type is. Maybe you start to see more dryness or flakiness, and the oil slick goes away. Then maybe you have drier skin. Or maybe the tight and dry feeling goes away but the oiliness stays. Then maybe you have oily skin. But until you heal your moisture barrier, nothing you throw at your skin will do any good.

  1. How many times should one cleanse each day? twice

  2. After washing your face and putting on moisturizer, is it normal for your skin to still feel slightly tight and dry? no

  3. When moisturizing my face, if I use something more watery it just feels like it dries up and takes all the moisture from my skin leaving it dry. Is this supposed to be normal? no

  4. If I put on more moisturizer afterwards, the oiliness gets too much and my face turns red. When that happens should I cleanse again and put more moisturizer on? Or should I use a cloth or something similar to wipe my face instead? keep blotting sheets on hand and blot at the oiliness (no rubbing)

  5. What should I be doing if my skin turns red and irritated? this is a sign that your skin is damaged - find gentle products that restore balance

  6. If I put on sunscreen my face gets oilier but still remains dry. What should I do during times like that? again, this should get better as your skin gets stronger

  7. How many times should one be using 8~10% AHA per week? if I were you, I would stop using this, at least for several months

  8. Would you agree that dry skin is generally darker and tougher and oily skin is reddish and blotchy? no, I think those are unrelated

Hey... never let fragile masculinity norms keep you from taking care of your skin....
My dad made fun of my mom for skincare their whole marriage, now that they're in their 50s guess which one is a prune and which one still gets mistaken for 35-40s lol.

This is my super easy super cheap quick routine and is a good starter for you. it's my bare minimum when I'm too exhausted to do the fancy stuff lmao

Morning:
- wash face (micellar water is a nice intro, it basically just feels like water but the micelles move dirt etc off skin)
- moisturizer with SPF. (Cetaphil daily facial moisturizer is unscented and super unoffensive to the manly men among us)
- sunscreen!!! make sure to get your neck too so you don't have a nice face and wrinkly neck in 30 years lmao
- vaseline on lips

Night time
- wash face again (micellar water is still the bare minimum, but I really like innisfree "pure cleansing foam" on amazon, your face will feel literally squeaky clean)
- night cream (thicker than daily moisturizer to heal and rehydrate overnight) everyone has their favorite, you can google "best night creams on a budget" etc and try around what you want, i've settled on this beauty it lasts forever and is thick as hell lol
- again it's good to put some lotion on neck , you see so many aged people whose necks are 10 years older bc they never moisturized it, i use GNC's aloe cream bc it's very plain and non irritating
- vaseline on lips

If you want to get fancier, when I have energy is when I'll try to leave a sheet mask on for 15 minutes a few times a week (again I like the innisfree ones, can get a bulk pack on amazon) especially in winter they're basically a power punch of hydration to the face.

Beyond that it's a lot of reading articles / watching youtube gurus, trying out products and seeing what works best for you. I get a lot fancier if I have energy but especially after shifts I do the bare minimum above and get compliments on my skin as very clear, clean and soft. Can't tell long term effects yet but I'm definitely doing more than my mom did and like I said, gets mistaken for 10-15 years younger all the time at work, parties, everywhere.

I would definitely take the advice of the person before me, and consider using Stridex (which is a BHA). My boyfriend had similar issues and this is what he does...

Mineral cleanse with baby oil. You can find more information about mineral oil cleansing on the sidebar, but basically you'll just rub it all over your face in circles, and within a few uses you'll begin to either feel "grit" in your fingers, or you'll notice a change in your skin.

Next, he washes his face with First Aid Beauty cleanser or a Mario Badescu cleanser. You can find all of his cleansers with descriptions here, or at Ulta.

Next, he uses a konjac sponge, which gently exfoliates your face. The addition of a konjac sponge has completely changed both his and my skin! You can find them cheaper on amazon and elsewhere, but the one I linked is the most well-known brand, but not the one I have. I have a red one. Red ones are meant for people without any skin issues, and just looking for a gentle exfoliant. You can find more information about which sponge you should use here.

Next, he exfoliates. Currently he uses Biore pore unclogging scrub and he seems to like it. I personally use LUSH Angels on Bare Skin which is really amazing and he loves to steal it whenever he can.. hahah

After the shower, he uses Stridex pads which are SO CHEAP and work great. So many people on this thread swear by them. Him and I use the blue box, because our skin is sensitive. But if yours isn't then red box will be fine.

Finally, we both use a moisturizer. Currently we use this one which is amazing, but it depends on your skin type.

Also, I recommend you use a redness night mask cream for the redness. Eucerin's anti-redness night cream is easily the best product on the market for redness issues.

Good luck! Let me know if you have any questions. :)

For sure. I've been trying different products for about 6 months now using the SCA routine guidelines. It's a great sub & I've learned a lot about skincare from it. Apologies for my formatting, on mobile. Keep in mind that skincare is not one size fits all. Always patch test, go slow & only change one product at a time so you know which product is causing a particular effect. I also wish I had taken a proper before picture to help measure my results.

My current routine:
Am - rinse with lukewarm water, dry & apply micellar water using a cotton round https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00D10IR1K/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_W6JLAbQNQFP3F) wait 5 minutes for it to absorb then apply moisturizer. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N35TNYX/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_k.JLAb07QYVMK Apply sunscreen, CeraVe makes a lotion with sunscreen too

PM - Wash with a gentle cleanser. At first I used Cetaphil because it is super gentle but I've now stepped up to CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N1LL62W/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_rcKLAbZWS17QV Next I use the red box Stridex wipes to exfoliate https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JF2VZG2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_vfKLAbSP9XSG7 I let that soak into my face for 20-30 minutes. The I use a benzoyl peroxide as a spot treatment to help dry up postules https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001E96LXQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_QjKLAbYZXTGX5 Note that as low as 3% is as effective as 10% and doesn't dry out your skin as much. I already had the persa gel when I found out & it doesn't dry my skin too much so I'm using it all up before trying something else. After the benzoyl peroxide has set for a few minutes I moisturize using CeraVe PM Lotion https://www.amazon.com/dp/B010PJX8UE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_jnKLAbJ21PV7H Both the CeraVe face wash & PM lotion have niancinamide which seems to be working well with my face. Overall I have been satisfied with CeraVe products. I've used some of The Ordinary line & loved them but it seems they are always out of stock so I gave up. Their azaliac acid & glycol toner worked great for me.

I'm far from an expert but feel free to pm me if you have any questions. I know all to well how much acne can really weigh someone down & I'm happy to help. Good luck!

Wall of text incoming, along with the products that work for me. YMMV with individual products, of course!

All of these are just what I use, and all have alternatives that may work better for you and/or be cheaper. This has evolved over the past two years, I didn't just pick all this up at once and start throwing it on my skin - start slow, and see how your skin adjusts to each step for a week or so before moving onto another product.

I do my "skin routine" morning and evening, with some variations depending on how much time I have and what time of day it is.

First, hydration. Looks like you've taken care of that one! Water, water, and more water is what helped the most. I go through roughly 3L of water at work if not more, plus more once I get home.

Second, I never use foaming cleansers. I cut out anything with foams, and went with a two step cleansing process: first, oil cleansing (I use Banila Clean It Zero) to get rid of the bulk of my makeup. Then I follow with a cream cleanser (Guerlain Lait de Beauty, but there are MANY more affordable options out there).

Then I use a toner. But not the stripping, Sea Breeze type toner, a moisturizing one. Currently using HadaLabo Hyaluronic Lotion. Don't let the "acid" fool you - hyaluronic acid is extremely moisturizing.

Every 3-4 days in the evenings, I use a chemical exfoliator (NEVER physical, my skin can't take it) in the form of a BHA and AHA. BHAs remove gunk from pores, AHAs strip dead skin. Both mine are from cosrx:

https://sokoglam.com/products/cosrx-bha-blackhead-power-liquid

https://sokoglam.com/products/cosrx-aha-7-whitehead-power-liquid

Some people leave them for 20 minutes, I don't have the patience, I just go right into the next step and add a sheet mask. If you're new to actives, this will be too often - do them once a week, max.

Then the fun part - sheet masks. I looove sheet masks. LOVE LOVE LOVE. Anything with Hyaluronic acid is my go to. My Beauty Diary Hyaluronic Acid is a staple. I let that sink in while doing whatever around the house. I do one of these a few times a week, every night if I can.

Then I go onto moisturizing. I have a variety of serums, essences, and oils that I use depending on how dry my skin feels, but my basic routine goes:

If my skin is extra dry, I add in an extra moisturizing step here. I use Miss Flower and Mr Honey in summer, Scinic All in One honey ampoule in winter. Or sometimes I use Guerlain Face Treatment Oil.

If my skin is red, I add in CosRX Snail 96 to help control it.

Separate eye cream, ALWAYS. Right now I'm loving Clarins Super Restorative eye cream.

Then the big moisturizers:

History of Whoo Jinyul Essence

History of Whoo Jinyul Cream

Final step for day, sunscreen - Biore Watery Essence SPF50 for daytime. Skipped at night for obvious reasons.

For the night routine, before bed I apply one of these masks:

CosRX Honey Mask

CosRX Rice Mask

Guerlain Abeille Royale Honey Mask

These give extra moisture at night while you're sleeping.

Again, this is not something that happened overnight - I can almost guarantee if someone takes this list and throws it all at their face at once, they'll end up a mess. I added things slowly.

If I was going to recommend an order, I'd go with this:

  • If you're using a foaming cleanser, replace it with a cream cleanser the next time it runs out. No need to waste things.

    Wait a week.

  • Add a GENTLE AHA. This will help remove dead skin and reduce dryness. Just once a week, no more.
  • Add a Hyaluronic acid sheet mask, like the MBD one. It's affordable, and relaxing.

You could swap the above two if you have a lot of cleanser left.

    Wait a week.

Once you're used to those, add an essence. Something very moisturizing and rich.

    Wait a week.

Look at adding in a sleeping pack.

From there, pick what you'd like to address and add them in.

I know it's a lot to take in, so if you have specific questions about any of this, just ask.

BACKGROUND: I'm new to the world of skin care. I've never had a serious skin care routine before other than applying some acne creams a few years back when my acne was pretty bad. Now my skin is not terrible, but at age 20 I've had it with any sort of acne and want clear skin.

My skin is oily. I don't know if its very oily or fairly oily because I don't know what really oily skin is like or what a fairly oily skin is like. If I had to make a guess I'd say fairly or decently oily...sorry if that's vague.

This is what my skin looks like on an average day.

[This] (http://imgur.com/a/fGqbn) is what my skin looks like when it breaks out just a bit.

I'm showing you these because I read the FAQ and Wiki and I've narrowed my choices for cleansers, exfoliants, and moisturizers but I'm not sure which one to buy. For each category, this is what I've narrowed it down to.

CLEANSERS

Hi all,

My scalp/face feels like it's on fire and this is so overwhelming I'd really appreciate anyone to take the time to read below and help out!

Let me start by saying I've read all the top posts in this subreddit as well as the simpleskincarescience knowledgbase on malassezia.

Background:
Have had dandruff my whole life which I've kept at bay with 2-3 sessions / week of selsun blue max strength. Have dry/flaky facial skin (in theory) but I have had absolutely perfect skin (that used to get complimented) by using a cream after showers that I'm now told is quite terrible and the ingredients recently changed so no longer works: https://www.amazon.com/Olay-Regenerist-Night-Recovery-Moisturizer/dp/B01M4R7CC5/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1504856200&sr=8-1&keywords=olay+night+regenerist+night+recovery+cream

On to my questions:

  1. I have dry/sensitive facial skin, and red/flaky around the nose and in eyebrows. 31y/o, very active and healthy - saw a dermatologist yesterday and he said I have seb derm and gave me:
Nizoral shampoo daily to scalp and face
Nizoral cream at night to face
Hydrocortisone 2.5% lotion in morning to face

After reading the simpleskincarescience knowledge-base I couldn't find anything on Hydrocortisone so how do you guys feel about using that in the AM temporary until this clears?

I will use the nizoral cream daily at night after showering, and use the shampoo twice per week. Not sure how long to keep this up for but was thinking 3-4 weeks and then storing all the products away and using the GoW products below item #4. Also not sure if I can incorporate any of the GOW products into the dermatologist's products.

  2. So current morning routine would be washing with cold water -> hydro cream

  3. Night R: nizoral shampoo > nizoral cream > sometimes aquaphor on just the super red areas
Quick Q: what shampoo/condtioner do you recommend for the other 5days/week for someone concerned with balding/thinning?

Before going to the derm, I rush ordered/paid for fastest shipping on some GoW products which I read about on Reddit and then consulted GoW about, I ended up with the below products and am not sure how you all would recommend implementing them into my routine/system as this is what my main question is about!

For face, in order of GoW's recommended routine:

    1. GoW .. New!! Soothing Gel Cleanser (4 oz White Bottle W/Flip Top)

    2. GoW Yarrow Blossom Healing and Hydrating Mist (4 oz PET W/Spritzer)

    3. GoW Banana Healing Serum (1 oz Black PET w/Black Pump)

    4. Hemp Seed Oil (1 ounce Glass Bottle w/Dropper) -> as my moisturizer

      For scalp:

    5. GoW Locks of Lovely Shampoo (8 oz HDPE White Bottle w/Flip Top)

    6. GoW Soothe Your Scalp Serum (1 ounce White (round) Bottle w/Yorker Spout Cap)

      Thank you all!

New Purchases:

  • Timeless Hyaluronic + Vitamin C Serum - this has hyaluronic acid, glycerin, MAP, and peptides. Tried this yesterday and this morning, hope it works out.
  • Finishing Touch Flawless Hair Remover - This is a little rotary razor thing for getting rid of facial hair. I have really reactive and sensitive skin, and haven't gotten irritation from this since I used it yesterday. I'll have to see how the regrowth is. I have very fine, light facial hair, and I did have to go over spots multiple times but it was effective.
  • Dr. Dennis Gross Sheer Mineral Sun Spray SPF 50 - I ordered this with my 15% coupon from Sephora, haven't received it yet.

Repurchases (with my Ulta platinum coupon):

  • Clinique City Block Sheer SPF 25 Sunscreen - I love this for everyday, functions as a primer almost, has a tint that will work on lighter skin tones.
  • Clinique All About Eyes Eye Cream - I love this shit.
  • Clinique Take the Day Off Eye Makeup Remover - The best.

    Rave:

  • I ordered the Eucerin Redness Relief Soothing Night Cream and it's amazing. The texture is a gel-cream, has glycerin, squalane, and one of my favorite ingredients, licorice root extract. I've been using this for a few weeks without breakouts, is very hydrating, I love it.

*Me looking at the third photo*: "Huh, that looks like a tretinoin glow."

*Looks at routine in comments*: "Yep." 😂

All jokes aside, you look amazing! So glad you've found a routine that works.

If you're looking to try a different moisturizer, I recommend CeraVe Skin Renewing Night Cream. Like the First Aid Beauty one, it has dimethicone, shea butter and ceramides, but unlike that one, it has niacinamide (which is an anti-inflammatory that can help with redness), and hyaluronic acid which is great for hydration/plumping. BUT, it does not have the colloidal oatmeal which you might be enjoying. Just something to think about to try. I'm on tret cream and have been putting it on at night to a wet face and it does wonders for hydration.

Zinc can also help with redness, so maybe look for a sunscreen with this.

Here is a Dr. Dray video she just came out with about redness skin care, maybe check that out for some more info. 😊

You're pretty harsh looking. Tyra Banks would call you high fashion.

To combat this, just be a chill, lighthearted person. If your personality is approachable, the initial threatening nature of your facial features will be less of a hindrance. Your first picture totally looks like boyfriend material. Seriously. Approachable, not desperate, easy going. It's perfect. But you look like you're with family/close friends, so try to have that ease with all the people you meet.

Since you have such pale skin, avoid harsh black shirts. Especially shirts that look like they came from Hot Topic. If you're going to wear black jeans, wear a more fashion forward shirt with it (plaid/a pattern/ a lighter colored shirt.) Otherwise, blue jeans look more casual. You can't go wrong as long as they fit well and aren't super lightwashed.

If the dark circles bother you, get a good eye cream. Don't think you can't cause you're a guy, either! Ain't no shame. (I recommend this one: http://www.amazon.com/RoC-Retinol-Correxion-Wrinkle-1-Ounce/dp/B00027DMI8 Creams are pretty hit or miss because it all depends on your skin, but I know quite a few people who like this one! It's easy, put a little on your finger and massage into your eye area, then sleep. It doesn't have a big smell either, if you're worried about being girly or whatever.) Also, make sure you're drinking water.

I'd be really, really interested to see what you'd look like with a haircut. And if you're the guy with the dyed black hair in the group pic, don't do that anymore, it's too dark for your skin tone and makes you look threatening.

Smile however you want to in pictures, don't be so overwhelmed with how you should be posing that you come off as self-conscious, because that's the worst, in my opinion. Have fun, look like you're having fun, and be a happy person. People will be drawn to you naturally.

Sorry about the friend-zoning. Wrong people, wrong time, but be patient. In the mean time, be happy that you seem to have good friends, stories to tell, and a decent personality.

tl;dr: not ugly.

Good luck!

Morning Routine:

Take shower. Use conditioner [1] on beard as well as hair. Shampoo/condition early in shower, allow conditioner to soak in while washing body. Rinse conditioner out of hair as the LAST THING you do.

Apply day cream [2] to non-shaved areas of my face before shaving to lock in shower moisture. Use liberally, allow to soak into skin over shave.

Head straight to sink, apply MR GLO [3] to wet face by rubbing the bar on my whiskers, massage in with fingers (no washrag) for ~30 sec with hot water. Rinse 70% of it off, leaving no lather but keeping the slickness.

Normal lather/shave [4].

Rinse, pat dry, apply Witch Hazel [5] with Cotton Rounds. Let sit while I clean up the sink.

Rub in mostly dried off WH, apply Nivea Sensitive Post-Shave Balm [6].

Evening Routine:

Take shower.

While conditioning hair, use gentle exfoliant [7] on face (daily).

Leave shower, pat face dry, apply extra hydrating night cream [8] to face.

Add extra body lotion [9] to behind ears, back of neck, and other dry areas like elbows, knees, shoulders. Dry neck and behind the ears is not to be neglected.

Use Retinol anti-aging night cream [10] on areas to prevent wrinkles, such as smile lines, crow's feet, under eyes, and forehead. A little goes a long way.

Sleep, repeat.

Note: I'm only 27, but you can never start anti-aging skincare too young. I wish I would've started it sooner. If I would have started this regimen at 18, I might not have the hint of crow's feet that I do. Remember that, you young'ins. It's expensive, but your face will thank you later.

Products Used:

  1. Organix Argan Oil of Morocco shampoo/conditioner
  2. Neutrogena Deep Moisture Day Cream SPF 20
  3. MR GLO Orange Amber
  4. Stirling Coniferous (if this counts)
  5. Thayer's Unscented Witch Hazel
  6. Nivea Sensitive Post-Shave Balm
  7. Yes To Carrots Nourishing Exfoliating Cleanser
  8. Yes To Carrots Nourishing Repairing Night Cream
  9. Cetaphil Moisturizing Lotion
  10. Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair Moisturizer - Night

edit: it should be noted that I shave daily. Even sundays, haha. I avoid trouble spots ATG, where I'm prone to sensitivity, mostly the bottom half of my neck, where I only ATG one small patch by my Adam's apple. The skin is tougher there.

double edit: Don't worry about being Bateman. You almost never find someone who has a beautiful face that doesn't put in that much effort. A few of my friends (San Francisco, mind you) use concealer and a light facial powder to get rid of some shine and even out color, myself included on occasion. You can hardly tell if you use Physician's Formula mineral powder as a very light coat. Nobody will ever know, and you'll be WAY more attractive. Not kidding you, the stuff is invisible, but does its job.

I guarantee you, especially famous people wear makeup all the time so they can be photo-ready. Normal plebians like you and I are no exception.

I have not experienced what you’re going through I’m sorry :( I don’t know if it is available where you are but I use Simple Water Boost Micellar Facial Gel Wash and that is FA safe and it does not dry out my skin. Also if you ever wonder what products you’re using that are FA safe all you have to do is look them up or paste the ingredients in this website and it can tell you all about your ingredients will flag anything not good.

I also use the Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay as a spot treatment when I get any cystic acne (usually just hormonal) and I’ve found that works beautifully but you have to moisturize after because it is drying and you don’t want to mess up your moisture barrier.

Also as other people have said you might have ruined your moisture barrier. There are moisturizers that are FA safe that you should be using after washing your face. So yes the acne sucks and you really want to get rid of it but when doing so please don’t forget to moisturize. If you don’t moisturize it’s not going to get much better. I wish you the best of luck and hope your skin heals up soon. It can be emotionally taxing to have this happen to your skin so if you need to talk just PM me :)

u/sensualsanta · 3 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

Mine was like this too so I started putting on a Eucerin night cream before bed. It's super thick but it actually feels really great on my skin, and not greasy. Cetaphil and Cerave just didn't work for me. In the morning my face is well moisturized and my makeup looks a lot better (I use powder).

The key to great moisturizing I've found was to apply moisturizer right after patting my face dry after cleaning it, while my face is still somewhat moist. This allows the cream to lock in moisture and really helps hydrate my parched skin.

I'm actually using the redness relief products but I'm sure it will be fine for you too. I have eczema (flaky, flaky skin) and rosacea and so far I've been fine, no breakouts.

Here is what I use: http://www.amazon.com/Eucerin-Redness-Relief-Soothing-Night/dp/B0013L3XMM

There's nothing gross about what we refine in our appearances! But that is exactly where I started when I had my "enough is enough" moment. This blog post really helped me get a rein on it, and 6 months later my skin is virtually flawless so it works!

As for products, since there are a lot and it seems like a bit much upfront. I recommend

Cleanser 2-Step (Oil to lift makeup and debris, foam to completely clean face)

  1. The Face Shop Rice Water Bright Cleansing Foam (150 mL/5.0 Oz) & Light Cleansing Oil (150 mL /5 Oz) Set https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00SUZWGHM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_RcMVBbZWGQB0R

  2. Microdermabrasion Exfoliator (remove debris clogging pores)
DRMTLGY Microdermabrasion Facial Scrub and Face Mask. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B076KYPY23/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_udMVBbRKR035V

If you would like, a toner can be added in place of the exfoliator on days that you do not exfoliate.

  3. BHA (Reduce pore oil production)
COSRX Natural BHA Skin Returning A-Sol, 100ml https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00V4JPXO4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_1eMVBb36B2C7R

(Optional: if you look around, you can find products called "serums" and "essences" to Target specific problem areas. They are typically pretty expensive as they are highly concentrated)

  4. Mask (lock-in moisture and allow serums/essence to penetrate)
Dermal Korea Collagen Essence Full Face Facial Mask Sheet, 16 Combo Pack https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BAM7F8C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_aiMVBbV8HNZTF

  5. Sleeping Packs! (Thick overnight mask for ultimate hydration)
Elizavecca Milky Piggy Wrinkle care Revitalize EGF Retinol Cream for Anti Aging Pore Minimizing https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MTF6Y6B/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_SlMVBb24VC3B5

And that's about it. You also generally want to do them in that order. It sounds like a lot, but all that will run you perhaps $50 for a 2 month or so supply, depending on your use.

I can certainly attest to how powerful a combination they are though, I almost shudder to think of wearing makeup most days now. My skin feels so clear for the first time in my life that I realize it's unnecessary, and anyone can have that with a little effort!

    Good luck 😘😘

**Skin type and skin concerns:**

Main concerns: Dryness, acne (cystic and general acne all over chin and cheeks), and splotchy discoloration all over my face (my dermatologist said it was melasma). My skin is consistently congested and breaking out, yet my entire face is sensitive, dull, itchy and flakey. After years of reading tips here, I've finally gotten to the point where redness and the majority of flaking is gone and products don't burn when they touch me, but my skin remains dull and feels tight.

While the products I've selected are relatively affordable, they add up. Plus I'm worried I'm doing more damage than good by overwhelming my skin with all these product. Mostly though, I'm so jealous of all your minimalist routines I see on here, and I want to create one that would work for me. I don't know where to start. What are your thoughts?

  25. Once a week, spot treat acne problem areas with Proactiv Skin Purifying Mask

    **Daily behaviors possibly impacting skin:**

My diet is crap. While I don't eat a lot of processed food, I eat too much sugar, too much oily and fatty foods, too much red meat and not enough vegetables. Because of my family, it's going to be difficult to make adjustments, and honestly I'm not sure where to start. Caffeine consumption is pretty high, while I only have the occasional coffee, I drink a TON of green tea and oolong tea. Water intake is fair, and I usually refill my 32oz water bottle 2 times a day (yes, I have to run to the bathroom at least every 30 minutes). I pretty much stopped wearing makeup a little over a year ago, now I only wear for special occasions and the occasional eye liner.
u/meriendaselgato · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

I start with Hada Labo Hydrating Serum with hyaluronic acid– the American one you can get at Walgreens/Ulta.

I layer St. Ives Timeless Skin, which claims to be anti-aging but is really just a nice lightweight moisturizer (does have fragrance), with Cerave PM, underneath Elta MD UV Clear sunscreen. I used to use the St. Ives alone under sunscreen, but Retin-A means my skin is drier than usual.

The Cerave PM is not heavy at all, and almost feels like a primer. None of these products break me out, which is RARE for me. I have used the St. Ives for about 3-4 years now, and it's my HG. The UV Clear is the only sunscreen that doesn't piss of my face, too, which is a huge feat. No raves yet for the Cerave PM, since it's not that moisturizing IMO, but it's definitely a staple as of yet.

It's a lot of steps but I find that layering several products that don't bother my skin is way better for me than using one heavy moisturizer that may clog me. I would recommend layering any products you already have that work, but maybe aren't hydrating enough alone. If you don't have anything now, try one new product at a time to see what your skin likes.

I'm a gender-queer guy and I've been trying to make my overall appearance more feminine for the past several months. In general, I'm aiming more for androgynous than blatantly feminine (think women's sneakers and jeans more than heels and dresses), and along those same lines, I'm not really interested in makeup (I don't think) but would like to find a skincare routine that makes my face look as feminine and femininely-pretty as possible.

I have normal skin, maybe slightly oily but I almost never get zits anymore (I'm 31),

My routine right now:

  • Aveeno Positively Radiant cleanser and face scrub, every morning and night
  • this retinol moisturizer and this eye cream, every morning and night
  • this mud mask I use once a week or so
  • an assortment of these sheet masks, I use one of them most nights before bed (this doubles as a relaxation thing...)

Overall, I've surprisingly been pretty happy with this routine so far, but this has been one of those processes where the more I've learned the more I've realized I don't know, which is what brought me here.

I (thankfully) don't have any notable problems I need to address (dryness, oiliness, etc), but I feel like my skin is a little dull and I want to make it more glowy/luminous/radiant, and basically make it "pop" and say "feminine" a little louder.

What additions or changes to my routine might take me the farthest in that direction? In particular, I'm almost out of moisturizer and want to try a different one (the one I have makes my face a tad oily), and I think I want to add a serum and/or night creme - but I'll be (very, very) receptive to whatever suggestions SCA might have for me.

Just started Accutane (Claravis), 60mg/day yesterday, and have changed up my routine recently based on lurking around this sub and r/Accutane. Any general comments/feedback would be much appreciated!

Skin type: Oily for sure, but I am positive it's about to become dry with the Accutane. In changing up my routine a few weeks ago, I tried to pick products that seemed to work for people with both skin types generally (maybe just with different frequencies of use) so I could use them before and after I finish the course.

Current routine:

AM

Cosrx Low Ph Good Morning Gel Cleanser to cleanse

Klaris Supple Preparation Facial Toner for toner

Cicaplast Baume B5 Soothing Multi-Purpose Balm Cream for moisturizer

Sun Bum SPF 30 fPVNM Sunscreen, Original Face Stick -- I know it's not the best, but I live in Portland/Seattle so the need is not as dire as in other places

PM

Lush Ultrabland to remove makeup
Remove makeup

Cosrx Low Ph Good Morning Gel Cleanser to cleanse

Usually after cleansing I use a mask -- I had been using more acne-targeting masks, but since I am switching to sheet masks, which I used to only use occasionally. Right now, I have Benton Snail Bee High content Sheet Mask Pack and Dermal Korea Collagen Essence Full Face Facial Mask Sheet, but I also really like Origins Drink Up-Intensive and Cosrx Ultimate Nourishing Rice Overnight Mask. When I need spot treatment, I am obsessed with Cosrx Acne Pimple Master Patch

Then I go back and do -- Klaris Supple Preparation Facial Toner for toner

Cicaplast Baume B5 Soothing Multi-Purpose Balm Cream for moisturizer

Edit: I used to use (and still have left some) of Lush's Herbalism. I am not sure I should keep using it on Accutane, since it exfoliates, but any commentary on that would be appreciated!

u/ver0nikaa · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

I have used Dr Jart+ Cicapair Serum and Cream as well as a brightening cream from Kielh’s and it has cleared and evened my skin from dark spots a lot! (To be clear it was not acne, I don’t suffer from acne, but I did have a lot of redness and dark spots around my face which were cleared by those products).

For face cleanser I super recommend Simple Miscelar Water Gel Cleanser.. it is very gentle on the skin, yet very effective and hydrating. Around $7 on Amazon or you can find at almost any pharmacy or grocery store.

For toner I recommend a rosewater and glycerin spray. Around $8 on Amazon

And then the serum and cream I mentioned at the beginning.

I would like to add Vitamin C to my current routine and wondering if/ when I should add it.

Type: Oily/ mixed. It used to be super oily but not so much anymore

Routine: AM: wash with luke warm water/ use Clean &Clear Morning Burst Cleanser- use Neutrogena SPF 45

PM: wash with luke warm water and use Neutrogena Retinol Moisturizer

Once a week, I also use MUAC's 40% Mandelic acid and 24 hours before and after I do't use anything but water and sunscreen.

I've been using this for a while and it seems to work, I don't get any breakout anymore and my skin has gotten a lot better compared to last year but I want it to look better. Therefore, I want to try Vitamin C, especially since my wedding is coming up and would like some input on when, if to use it.

Thanks.

P.S. I'm a brown male, if ot matters.

Hi all.

Friend introduced me to this site and I'd love to see if the "magic" she works on her skin can work for me too. I'd love it if folk could review my shopping list below and give me feedback. My skin is oily and blemish prone and I have a number of large clogged pores - oh, and I"m in my 30s.

Hello! After lurking for many months, this is my first post on this sub, but I have to share with you. I hope to find someone else who has used this, or perhaps I can convince a few of you to try it. c: I'm 23, have normal-to-dry, acne-prone skin. I'm also very pale, if that matters.

I was in search of a multi-purpose moisturizer. I was previously using the CeraVe PM lotion, but it pilled up too much on my skin with my nightly masks, serums, and a sleeping pack on top. It was effective regardless of the pilling, but it was annoying and felt gross. No thanks. So, on a whim, I purchased the Elizavecca Milky Piggy Wrinkle Care Revitalize EGF Retinol Cream from Amazon. I'm attracted to anti-aging products by default--hence the nightly sheet masks-- and the positive reviews, decent ingredient list, and packaging drew me in. Plus, this is a retinol + moisturizer in one product... which meant that I could go without my retinol serum.

I've been applying this mask as the last step of my skincare routine for the past month, and guys, wow. My smile lines have faded, and my skin feels soft and supple. It has also reduced the severity and number of (admittedly small) pimples I get during the week of my period. A little goes a very long way. The product is affordable, smells incredible, and is a HG for me.

TL;DR: buy this product because it kicks ass. ;u;

I have both aging concerns (I'm 39) and breakout prone skin and early this year I started implementing a skincare routine with mostly Korean products and it has helped tremendously (thanks r/asianbeauty!) Prior to this the ONLY moisturizer I'd ever found that did not break me out in cystic spots was the Clinique DDM gel moisturizer which isn't really very moisturizing.

With the k-beauty stuff I added BHA and AHA which helps with both acne and aging.

Another important thing to consider is PH. High PH cleansers like your Neutrogena scrub or Cetaphil are really not good for your skin. Some great low PH cleansers are Cerave foaming cleanser (not Korean/Asian), Su:m 37 Miracle Rose Cleansing Stick ( https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00EIMU3NU/ref=sxts2_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1482935590&sr=2 ) and Hado Labo Gokujyn Cleansing Foam ( https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0036MDUEM/ref=sxts1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1482935590&sr=1 )

Your makeup is gorgeous!

Unsolicited skincare advice: I have mild rosacea and ruddy cheeks; products with licorice root extract really help. Paula’s Choice Calm Redness Relief Serum, Eucerin Redness Relief Night Cream, and Acwell Licorice Toner are all products I use or used and work really well. They brighten my skin and reduce the redness; I don’t use any green color correcting makeup and feel comfortable packing blush on my skin, finally.

Hi Everybody,

Hope all is well. Thank you for taking the time out to read this and give me feedback.

My dermatologist has me on this routine:

---

Day

  1. Wash face with Sulfa Wash (Sodium Sulfacetamide 8% , Sulfur 4%)
  2. Topical Dapsone 7.5% cream
  3. Elta MD UV Clear Broad Spectrum SPF 46 Sunscreen

    ---

    Night

  4. Wash face with Sulfa Wash (Sodium Sulfacetamide 8% , Sulfur 4%)
  5. ALTERNATE EVERY OTHER DAY BETWEEN

    A) Acne Combo Gel - Forte (Benzoyl Peroxide 5%, Clindamycin Phosphate 1%, Niacinamide 2%, Trentinoin 0.05%)

    B) Tazarotene 0.05% Cream (Niacinamide 4%, Tazarotene 0.05%)

  6. Cerave PM Facial moisturizing Lotion

    ---

I recently spoke w my dermatologist and purchased over-the-counter Amara Organics Retinol Cream 2.5% w Hyaluronic Acid, Vitamins E & B5. I'm wondering where I use this in my night routine? Would it be after my prescribed topical gel but before my moisturizer or after everything? Or would it even be in substitution of the topical gels? Also, since it's such a strong cream, this should be something I do every other day starting out. Would it be better to pair it with the Combo Gel or the Tazarotene?

    ---

Additional Question: After I shave, should I first apply after shave (which closes the pores) then apply my acne products or apply my acne products first? In general is it better to apply products when the pores are open or closed?

p.s. my dermatologist is out of the country and I also just wanted to hear this communities feedback :)

Thanks so much for the help and I await your responses!

Sure, I responded to another poster, but I'll paste it here too!

For the face, I don't spend much more than 10-15 minutes a day on it, but I stick to this regimen daily for the most part. Here's what I do (YMMV):

Morning:

  • Wake up, put rose hip seed oil on my face, walk my dog.

  • take a shower, proceed with a vitamin C serum, or Vitamin C with CoQ10 cream (just depends what I bought that time, I switch back and forth). Finish getting ready

  • Apply SPF, usually SPF 30 (I also have a CC cream with SPF20 if I feel like doing makeup)

  • Head out!

    Night (5 minutes):

  • Wipe makeup off with a Burt's Bees Wipe, wash with CoQ10 cleanser

  • Apply retinol every other night, coconut oil otherwise.

Here are some of my favorite products:

  • BWC Vitamin C + CoQ10

  • ROC Retinol Cream

  • CoQ10 Cleanser

Oh, I also use a Vitamin E oil I get from Trader Joe's, and I mostly use it on my chest and neck to keep that skin looking moisturized. I don't do it religiously, but I keep some in my bathroom.

Six month empties check in! The link to my spreadsheet where I maintain my collection is above. The first three sections are empty/ gone from the collection, and are labeled as such. Below the "COLLECTION" banner, is my entire makeup collection, including the products that have been emptied or destashed.

Some things to note before we dive in:

I failed to keep some items, so there are a couple of gaps from the spreadsheet to the photos. Specifically, the Smashbox eye primer, I failed to keep, so for the purpose of the photos, used my full bottle.
A couple of dates might look odd-- specifically, finishing two highlighters within a day of each other. I was using them both simultaneously, topping Opal with Pearl. If any other dates look odd, this is usually the case. I’ve only recently begun trying to use a product from start to finish, compared to flitting between products as I felt like doing so.

More of an r/skincareaddiction question but here I go....that all depends on your skin type. I've used the 50 step Korean beauty routine for a while and didn't notice much of anything.

I use a foaming cleanser/makeup remover, vitamin c serum, 15 minutes later I use this serum and another 15 minutes later, a night time moisturizer. I don't have any issues with my skin. I could probably do without the second serum but I got a good deal on it \^_\^

A good cleanser, vitamin c serum, and night cream are generally everyone's friends.

Hi! Thanks to this sub I started a daily routine about 8 months ago and it has calmed random breakouts and things down a LOT. <3.

The stats:

  • 30s F in southwest US (super dry, super sunny)
  • Rosacea/oily skin
  • lots of SF/closed comedones (but super not even ready to deal with that yet)
  • Routine:
    • AM: splash with water, moisturize with Neutrogena Oil-Free and then Elta Sunscreen
    • post-workout (at least once, sometimes twice/day): wash withCeraVe Foaming Facial Wash and moisturize again with Neutrogena
    • PM: CeraVe night cream

      The first problem:

      - I'm noticing that my skin, especially around my cheekbones is really dry and so a lot of fine lines have appeared over the summer. I'm guessing I need to add way more moisturizer at various spots. I work out a LOT, and there's a LOT of sweat and other people dirt (rolling in jiu jitsu) and so don't really feel like I can wash my face less. But I'm not sure what to do. I have a few big forehead wrinkles too, so if I could address both in one pass, that would be delightful.

Thanks again, y'all. This sub is the best.

Issue: Getting on the wagon, need help and recommendations/etc.

Skin Type: Oily, Blemish-Prone (Not completely sure, pics attached below can give more info/etc. I sweat like a pedo in daycare and shine^bright^like^a^diamond, so there's that.)

Previous Routine/Experience?: Only skin routine or care I do is washing my face with water couple times throughout the day. I used this cleanser/whatev they gave us at school for 4 or so months (PM only) half a year ago (Was quite harsh, but kinda adjusted to it. I think?), and that's about it.

About: Young lad, live in [very] hot environment (Soon to move out, <1year) and lead an active lifestyle. Crazy beakouts couple years ago coupled with cocaine hands got my face fucked up for life.

Location: UAE, will be buying my shit from Amazon US and shipping it here. Don't worry too much about this unless you know some local stuff that's of appropriate price.

Other/Pictures: http://imgur.com/a/C0YLw

///Routine

Cleanser:
Went with the recommendations and chose Cerave Foaming Facial Cleanser, 12oz. Best price, ships here, generally well received. Not much.

Moisturizer:
Went with CeraVe Moisturizing Cream w/ Pump, 16z. Good price, ships, got a pump (Hey!), well received. Same old.

Sunscreen:
Sweat a lot and lead an active lifestyle, so need a waterproof sunscreen for the morning-noon/school period. Considered a lot of options, but I constricted it to these as they are the only ones that are waterproof, ship here and are priced reasonably (Not so).
However, I will surely not get anything with Octinoxate due to it's link with Endocrine disturbances (Something which I need very less of, especially currently) and all. Will also not get the All-Chemical Paula's Choice because it's just fucked.
That leaves the EltaMD and the CeraVe. The CeraVe has a greasy texture that doesn't go away (Or so they say) and leaves a very pronounced white tint, and the EltaMD has better UVA protection and is tinted to somewhat my skin tone, so I decided to get it. If you have any suggestions/recommendations/etc., please do drop them below.

Exfoliant:
Went with a BHA cause it's simpler and is recommended for oily skin. Problem is I'm afraid Stridex Maximum Strength Pads will be too harsh and unusable (Big no-no, can't return it and shipping rates are crazy).
Neutrogena Rapid Clear Acne Defense Face Lotion, 1.7oz and Olay Age Defying Classic Night Cream, 2oz ship here too but I don't know man.

OCM:
To remove waterproof sunscreen not else. Found this quite cheap baby oil called Corine De Farme Baby Massage Body Oil (Ingredients: Paraffinum Liquidum, Parfum, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis Oil), but I honestly don't know anything about this so I just want some input.

I love my Biore Aqua Watery Essence sunscreen. I've tried so many sunscreens, and this one is truly the best (no white cast, spreads so smoothly, dries matte). I also love Mizon AHA & BHA toner... it doesn't irritate my skin at all. Finally, my favorite moisturizer is Cosrx rice overnight mask because it doesn't break me out.

u/gabe_miller83 · 2 pointsr/Accutane

AM - Use any gentle face wash, however I recommend this Neutrogena one, works like a charm. Then I use my AM CeraVe Moisturizer and that’s it.

And in the PM - Use any gentle face wash, however I recommend this Neutrogena one, then I use my PM Moisturizer and a layer of Vaseline as an occlusive on top of that. I don’t recommend using Vaseline during your am routine unless you wanna be shiny all day.

My skin stays moist and never peels during the day, I recommend this routine.

Just realized this wasn’t a product recommendation thread..

Here's two good drugstore options:

u/DrizzlyShrimp36 · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

I have relatively nice skin, although it is a little bit oily when its very humid outside. A couple months back I started applying Cetaphil cleanser daily as well as some random Nivea moisturizing cream. My skin looks better and healthier but I still get bumps on my forehead and sometimes pimples on the side of my face.

Today I went out and bought some moisturizing cream with 15 SPF and a BHA exfoliant (at least I think so...)

Here's my concern: I wanted to buy the Olay Age Defying Classic Nightcream but couldn't find it, and so I bought the closest thing I could find: this

It says beta hydroxy complex on it and so I assume it is a BHA. It seems to be the same thing as what I found in the sidebar except that it is not a night cream. Is that okay?

My routine would look something like this.

AM:

  • Cetaphil daily cleanser
  • Lubriderm moisturizer 15 SPF

    PM:

  • Cetaphil daily cleaner
  • Olay Age defying daily renewal cream (BHA)
  • Nivea facial moisturizer

How does that look? Thanks :)

Guys, I'm so lost. I KNOW the answers I need are somewhere in this sub, but I've spent over an hour looking now and am feeling frustrated and overwhelmed.

I just turned 30, and feel like I need to step up my skincare game. My current routine is:

  • Every other evening, I wash my face with foaming Cerave, apply Neutrogena Anti-Wrinkle night formula cream, and dab some Burt's Bee's Repair Serum around my eyes, forehead and smile lines.
  • In the morning I apply Biore Face Milk SPF50 before I go to work.

My skin is normal and not prone to breakouts. But I feel like I need to get real about caring for my skin now that I'm 30. Can someone please give me some pointers, some steps, or some product advice? So overwhelmed by all the options - Vitamin C, etc. I don't know what to do!
u/jeeed · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

Does anyone have any advice for repairing my moisture barrier? I went several years washing my face with a soap bar once a day and doing nothing else. My routine right now is AM: cetaphil gentle skin cleanser, PC 2% BHA liquid, cetaphil daily facial moisturizer with spf 15
PM: cetaphil gentle skin cleanser, radha beauty retinol moisturizer http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015ORL3B8?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00
I usually have to use 2-3 pumps of the cetaphil for my face to feel moisturized throughout the day. I try to be conservative and use only one pump, but my skin feels tight within a few hours. The issue is that using enough for my face to feel moisturized means using enough for my face to feel oily and sticky. The texture of my skin is nice after only one pump but it still feels tight if I move my cheek muscles; in order for it not to feel tight I end up making it sticky. If I let my skin dry completely after cleansing and look at it 10-15 minutes later, it's tight and mildly flaky (more powdery than flaky). It's also flaky when I wake up in the morning, especially on my cheeks. I'd say I have combination skin, but it's more like normal/dry instead of oily/normal.

Basically, I'm just really tired of feeling like i have to drown my face for it to feel hydrated. At the very least, can anyone recommend me a moisturizer that's more humectant and maybe mildy emollient than anything so that my face feels moisturized without feeling sticky? I'm just super tired feeling like I know so much about skin/skincare but not being able to translate it into good skin for myself. :( I even use PC's moisturizing MASK as an overnight treatment sometimes and still wake up with dry skin on my cheeks, it's just ridiculous to me you know?

note: i've gone periods of several days without doing anything to my face and it's still pretty dry and flaky in the aforementioned areas after not washing or anything for days

retinol is some damn good stuff, dunno why people are pretending sunscreen is the only thing to use ever...

here are two ultra gentle products i'd try to introduce:

if you have an interest in using a cleanser again, i recommend this one

&

this anti-aging cream for at night which doubles as a moisturizer. use on face (including under eye), top of hands, neck etc.

i've had such good luck with these two products, yet everything from cerave to cetaphil breaks me out. they're both extremely gentle, i can't recommend them enough for your situation!

Instead of using petroleum on your face, these two items are the best for dryness. Mix a little oil with the cream. Instead of creating an occlusion on your skin, they help to heal the skin.

You should definitely look at /r/SkincareAddiction. That said, I also have oily, breakout-prone, very sensitive skin, and these products keep me clear 99% of the time. It's not the cheapest routine though, so be warned.

For cleansing, I only use water to wash my face. I have never been able to find a cleanser that doesn't dry me out and cause breakouts. Not even non-foaming cream cleansers work on me. In the past I've used the oil cleansing method, which didn't cause problems, but also didn't provide much benefit. Plus it was kind of messy, so I stopped.

At night before bed I rinse my face with water, and then apply Paula's Choice RESIST Daily Pore-Refining Treatment With 2% BHA. Once a week, instead of that product, I mix together RESIST Daily Smoothing Treatment With 5% AHA and RESIST Weekly Resurfacing Treatment With 10% AHA and apply that before bed.

In the morning I rinse with water. Then I mix together 15% azelaic acid (I use Finacea) and Eucerin Replenishing Skin Relief Face Cream (with 5% Urea) and apply. These two products make a ton of difference for me. Azelaic acid is OTC in many countries, but if you're in the US it's prescription only, which makes it more expensive. Also the Eucerin lotion with urea is great but not available in the US which is why I order it from overseas via Amazon. My skin is very oily, but also dehydrated. The Eucerin stuff is very moisturizing, not pore-clogging, and even though it's pricey, a little goes a long way, so the small bottle lasts a surprisingly long time.

In the morning, after the Finacea and Eucerin, I put on Paula's Choice Shine Stopper. Honestly, this might be my favorite product. Before I started using it, my skin would get shiny and wet looking within an hour or two of taking a shower. This stuff makes me look normal all day. It can't take care of all the oil, but at the end of the day I'll look "dewy" rather than looking like I just went to the gym. I don't know what I'll do if they ever stop making it.

Anyway, you said you were looking for low-cost, and my skin is particularly finicky and sensitive in addition to being oily, so everything I just suggested is probably overkill for you. If I were you, I would start with either no cleanser, or CeraVe Foaming Cleanser (Amazon link, but you can find that stuff at most drug/grocery stores in the US), a 2% BHA from Paula's Choice, and a non-pore-clogging moisturizer (CeraVe also makes good moisturizers that you can find in stores). And if you want to control the look of oily skin, I really can't recommend the PC Shine Stopper highly enough. I know it's a more expensive item, but in my opinion it's worth it.

u/laurentaylor102 · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

Personally, I use Tretinoin--but that is prescription only. There are some less powerful ones called Retinols. I know Paula's Choice has a great 1% Retinol product.

I'd also suggest getting an AHA which is a chemical exfoliant. It exfoliates the top layer of skin which helps with fine lines. You should also look into getting a Vitamin C serum with smooths and brightens the skin.

Here are my recommendations:

AHA:

This is the vitamin C serum I bought https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00SFNCSWC/ref=yo_ii_img?ie=UTF8&psc=1 but I may switch to this one https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01GUCJBAQ/_encoding=UTF8?coliid=I23J4SXPPN4TW3&colid=3LKTHCTKV5JJX because I read that the ones with L ascorbic acid is better.

For the retinol creme I just use this https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B015ORL3B8/ref=yo_ii_img?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I did research and basically you just need Vitamin C serum, retinol/retina, a moisturizer and sunblock for skin care as they're the only one's that have been scientifically proven while everything else might as well be snake oil.

You can also go to your doctor and tell them about the black head problem you have and ask to be prescribed Retina which is stronger than Retinol. Just say how you used to use it for your acne back in highschool and that's the only thing that got rid of your blackheads but stopped doing it after getting put on Accutane for your cystic acne but now need it again. I did that two weeks ago and they gave it without making me see a dermatologist, just have to make it sound like you know what you're doing.

I'm only using the Retina three times a week though at night as it can dry out your skin a lot. Everything else I use in the morning.

u/boomerangarrow · 1 pointr/muacjdiscussion

I have the world's worst skincare routine because I don't keep up on it half as well as I should. For reference, I have relatively normal skin with a little oiliness in the T-zone but nothing too crazy. The gist of my "routine" is:

  • wash face with Clean n Clear sensitive skin face wash in shower
  • moisturize after I get out of the shower (while skin is still damp) with Trader Joe's Enrich moisturizer
  • when I remember, slather on either Pond's anti-wrinkle cream (lactic acid) or this Olay night cream (salicylic acid) at night a few times a week
  • ordered a Makeup Eraser thanks to their promo but until that gets here I'm using Huggies extra-gentle baby wipes to take off my makeup, also

My skin is decent with minimal acne and feels pretty moisturized? I dunno, I'm so bad at routines because I have the attention span of a squirrel. I'm getting better at being a little more consistent, but anything past the face wash and moisturizer (since I do in/after the shower) is kinda hazy.
u/dsm-lxix · 2 pointsr/AsianBeauty

I think if you want to treat both dehydration and skin tone most effectively, you're better off going with 2 products rather than 1. The best ingredients for fading hyperpigmentation (actives like retinoids and chemical exfoliators or serums) do nothing for hydration and can't be formulated with moisturizers.

My favorite heavy-duty moisturizer is the Cosrx Rice Mask. It keeps me extra hydrated, but it still applies super light. Because it's so good, I rarely apply it more than 2 days in a row.

I think with more info I could give a more specific recommendation. Do you have ingredients you'd like to avoid or include, your current routine, etc.?

u/imjustdrawnthatway · 1 pointr/AsianBeauty

Hi All,

I have tons of products but I'm not sure if I'm using them correctly, in the right order, or using too many at one time. Also, some are not AB. Just waiting for them to run out. Also, I have the Mizon 8% AHA and Paula's Choice BHA. When should I be using these in my routine? How often? Please give me your opinions! I have dehydrated skin.

One product I don't see getting much love is Eucirin redness relief

I have redness across my cheeks and nose and this has been helpful. Not to mention it's very hydrating :)

I wash my face with a Clarisonic skin brush every time I shower; I have the Mia 1 but I know they also have a brush for men. I use this with just a general face wash that I buy at the grocery store.

In the morning, I use a cotton ball with witch hazel to tone my face and then I put on Tarte Drink of H2O Hydrating Boost before my makeup; it feels nice and light and doesn't make my skin feel greasy.

At night I rotate through three different products - Elizavecca Milky Piggy Water Coating Aqua Brightening Mask, Elizavecca Milky Piggy Wrinkle care Revitalize EGF Retinol Cream, and Elizavecca Green Piggy Collagen Jella Pack.

I'm in my early 30s and don't have any wrinkles yet, but I also try to avoid too much time in the sun because I'm relatively fair and I burn easy.

u/BitsofGeek · 2 pointsr/Rosacea

Sooooo... wow, I can't believe it's been like a month since I started this stuff. I patch tested on my neck for two weeks, and have been applying to my face for two weeks.

Overall, the MIZON Snail Recovery Gel Cream is... just okay. It doesn't feel very moisturizing (and I would call my skin normal/oily), and a few times it's felt itchy and like it made my skin tight - uncomfortably tight. Like when I smiled, it looked like I had extra tiny wrinkles on the plump sections of my cheeks that definitely shouldn't be wrinkling. Kind of like the tightness/dryness you might get after using Stridex (red box) pads.

And it seems I'm getting a couple tiny pimples here and there from it, no crazy breakouts, but still something more than before.

So, overall I'm not impressed. Sad, because I wanted this to work!

I'm not really willing to go the asianbeauty route of having 4-5 essence/serums/moisturizers to have enough on my face to moisturize it thoroughly, especially since trying out only one product takes so long. I'm already applying my Rx Finacea and waiting for 20-30 minutes, and then applying the MIZON. I don't have enough time for additional products in my regimen right now.

I'll probably go another 4 weeks just to make sure. I'm on 1 of 2 - 1.5 oz tubes I got from Amazon, so gotta figure out what to do with it after!

Edit: Okay, after a little poking around (after I remembered hearing about a DIFFERENT AB product that was supposedly moisturizing), I am tempted to continue to try the Snail Gel in the am, with my Cerave PM in the evening, and possibly try out this Cosrx Ultimate Nourishing Rice Overnight Mask since it was recommended so highly on this blog post as a day/night moisturizer.

I really like this Neutrogena retinol moisturizer: http://www.amazon.com/Neutrogena-Ageless-Intensives-Wrinkle-Moisture/dp/B001OMI9AQ/ref=sr_1_3?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1452197532&sr=1-3&keywords=neutrogena+night+retinol+moisturizer although I've been using retinol serums I discovered on Amazon as well. Another poster mentioned the Instanatural brand and I've been experiementing with that and like it. Roc makes a good one, too: http://www.amazon.com/RoC-Retinol-Correxion-Wrinkle-Night/dp/B00027DMI8/ref=sr_1_sc_1?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1452197584&sr=1-1-spell&keywords=rocnight+retinol+moisturizer

Also vitamin C serums are great. Instead of Vaseline on your face maybe consider Coconut oil. That stuff is da bomb.

Olay Renewal Cleanser.

What would you recommend for gentle cleanser and moisturizer? Is this something I should experiment with? Can you help me decide which of the following products I should use? If not I can just try all of them. I think it's worth it to throw away some money for experimentation.

Possible moisturizers I might buy:

  1. https://www.amazon.com/Radha-Beauty-Retinol-Moisturizer-Cream/dp/B015ORL3B8/ref=sr_1_11_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1494139128&sr=8-11&keywords=moisturizer
  2. https://www.amazon.com/CeraVe-Moisturizers-Moisturizing-Cream-Ounce/dp/B001V9SXXU/ref=sr_1_4_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1494139128&sr=8-4&keywords=moisturizer

    Possible cleansers:

  6. https://www.amazon.com/Cetaphil-Gentle-Cleanser-16-Ounce-Bottles/dp/B001ET76EY/ref=sr_1_12_s_it?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1494139574&sr=1-12&keywords=facial%2Bcleanser&th=1

A quick search for chemical exfoliation shows me this. Should I try this later on?

Edit: I noticed some of these products have acids in them. I guess I can use regular hand soap for a couple days until my skin recovers. Then I can start using these products.

I think you could use the blending cream as a night mask! I've used night creams as a mask before too, although I will say it's not as effective as an actual sleeping mask.

I recommend the Cosrx Ultimate Nourishing Rice Overnight Mask. It's super hydrating and brightening (although you have to use it quite a bit to see results!) I really like it!

Eucerin Redness Relief Night Cream. I love this stuff. I have redness in my t-zone and I think this helps it.

Edit: if your rosacea is very severe, however, I'm not sure how much this will help. There are some encouraging before and after pictures online, but ymmv. Good luck!

Skin type: combination, acne-prone, sensitive, eczema-prone on the eyelids

Olay Regenerist Night Recovery Cream, Fragrance Free

Ingredients: Water, Dimethicone, Glycerin, Niacinamide, Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Polymethylsilsesquioxane, Polyacrylamide, Polyethylene, Panthenol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Palmitoyl Pentapeptide-4, Allantoin, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Sodium Peg-7 Olive Oil Carboxylate, C13-14 Isoparaffin, Titanium Dioxide, Dmdm Hydantoin, Laureth-4, Dimethiconol, Laureth-7, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Aminomethyl Propanol, Disodium Edta, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate

This moisturizer was a welcome surprise! It's velvety and creamy; I daydream and look forward to smoothing it over my face like a protective blanket at night. It helps prevent the peeling that comes with Tretinoin (I currently use Curology). I really like that it does not have fatty alcohols like cetyl or cetearyl alcohol because those tend to give me closed comedones and sting my skin. It also does not contain mineral oil or petrolatum, which tend to give me milia. However, my picky skin does not seem to mind silicones, which this moisturizer includes in its ingredients. For others, this may be a problem. I generally do not purchase jar moisturizers because I prefer pumps. I like the portion control with pumps. However, I am willing to break my own rules every once in a while. If anyone has recommendations on how to portion out moisturizer in a jar, I would love to know.

It lasted me the entire month of January and have repurchased. It's a little on the expensive side for me, but coupons help.

Otherwise I use HydroPeptide Purifying Cleanser, Anti wrinkle + clarify link here as my my go to cleanser. It's spendy but it goes a long way and really does do what it claims. I've been on the same bottle for last nine months and probably have another three months in it.

If you are still worried about wrinkles you can try a retinol like Radha Beauty Retinol Moisturizer Cream for Face and Eye Area 1.7 Oz - With Retinol, Hyaluronic Acid, vitamin e and Green Tea. Night and Day Moisturizing Cream link here

This will help reduce the appearance of wrinkles.

So I've been on spironolactone for about a month, and birth control for the last four. I don't get the acne I once did (mostly cystic) but the hormonal stuff around my jaw still hasn't completely gone away.

More pics

Here's my routine, folks:

------------------------------

Morning:

Cerave hydrating micellar water

Rinse

LaCura hydrating facial cleanser

Rinse and pat dry

Ponds correcting cream (just started this)

Cerave daily moisturizing lotion

Biore UV Perfect Face Milk SPF50+, PA++++ (but since I now know this has alcohol in it, I will be switching to La Roche-Posay's ultra-light fluid SPF 60 when it gets in)

------------------------------

Night:

Same as morning minus sunscreen

Baebody eye gel

Cerave skin renewing night cream

------------------------------

For the last couple months I have been using TO's AHA 30% + BHA 2% peeling solution once a month for roughly ten minutes. Then I follow with my night routine minus the micellar water.

Do I need more exfoliation? Is there a serum I am missing? I drink water all day long! PLEASE HALP. Nothing seems to make my skin more even.

Thanks, those look like good Retinol moisturizers, though ideally there would be no fragrance. Even more ideally, there would be a disclosure of how much Retinol is in them. Also, what’s the difference (most concerned with Retinol efficacy) between that Neutrogena option and this one: Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair Night Moisturize

u/lilbrackyrack · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

the Laneige mask works wonders for me! i just put it on at night after using my moisturizer (right now i have the Glossier priming moisturizer RICH) before i sleep and my face is super soft in the morning. Sometimes if my face really needs more moisture, I use the Bioderma serum . I also really like the kiehl's daily ultra moisturizer for everyday, but i think serums are the best for really getting that moisture

u/aelfaerie · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

It sounds like you use the Sleeping Facial at night as a moisturizer? If you want something similar, the Laneige Sleeping Pack (sold on Amazon and at Target) is pretty famous and well recommended.

If your skintype is combination/oily due to dehydration, I'd recommend OCM at night followed by a hyaluronic serum/lotion to balance out and moisturize your skin.

u/aquajack6 · 3 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

I've used Neutrogena's retinol before and liked it (found it gentle). They don't reveal how much retinol is in their product but everyone assumes it's a small amount (it's definitely less than 1%). Here's the amazon link

There are more recs here: https://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/wiki/retinoids

I would go for the small percentages of retinol and stay away from the 1% retinols

This Skinacea link has recs as well. It's helpful because it organizes the types of retinoids from weaker to stronger: http://www.skinacea.com/retinoids/types-of-retinoids.html#.XN20hshKiaH

u/CantFindMyChandelier · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

Would someone have a recommendation for a night cream that isn't insanely expensive? I'm looking at Neutrogena's Hydro Boost Gel since I know I can get it locally.

I also found this one on Amazon when shopping for a night cream: Elizavecca Milky Piggy Retinol Night Cream. IA lot of Elizavecca products I'm seeing look quite interesting, such as their hyaluronic acid and their eye cream. Is it a brand worth trying?

I was going to get the Eucerin Replenishing Facial Cream with Urea after someone suggested it to me, but apparently I can't get it because of shipping restrictions? So I have to consider other options now. If neither the Neutrogena products nor the Elizavecca products are worth it, could someone recommend something else? I'm not a total noob when it comes to skincare, but there are so many things to choose from that I still don't know where to even begin.

u/Elise_93 · 4 pointsr/transtimelines

Unless you're experiencing unwanted side effects I'd stick with blockers. It's pretty expensive to suppress T with just E. And high E-doses in the early stages may impede breast growth (I cannot recall the reference right now though).

I've been using different retinol creams. Started off with weak ones such as Neostrata and Neutrogena, followed by stronger ones like Regenacalm. Will probably move on to prescription tretinoins which are even more effective (got some old deep acne scars that I hope they will fix).

> Yeah, being around the 9 months mark and not seeing much changes is a little demoralising but like people here have been saying on here, the effects of HRT can be seen, even into beyond 1 year HRT mark.

Exactly!

u/siegoboy · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

There are not a lot of Retinal options available where I live but I managed to get the Ageless Intensives® Anti-Wrinkle Deep Wrinkle which I am yet to try. According to reviews on Amazon it is amazing, I am excited to incorporate it into my routine.

I've recently been getting comments on my glowing skin. Folks assume it's because I'm pregnant, but I suspect it's really the skincare routine. I attribute the glowing to:

Missha Signature Real Complete BB Cream - I apply this with my fingers, then dab and blend with a damp Real Techniques beauty sponge. It has really light coverage that makes my skin look naturally spot-free and a little dewy.

Cosrx Ultimate Nourishing Rice Overnight Mask - I just introduced this to my routine last week, and I'm hooked. I apply it at as a final step (over Benton Snailbee Essence and CeraVe PM Cream). It cools my skin and smells pleasant, and in the morning my face is so soft I can't stop touching it.

u/mmcremebrulee · 2 pointsr/FeminineNotFeminist

I love using a cream and then layering on a sleeping pack! I have had good experiences with Laniege Water Sleeping Pack, Innisfree Wine Jelly Sleeping Pack, and I'm currently working through my second jar of Holika Holika Honey Blueberry Sleeping Pack because it smells that good... :D

Hi everyone,

Dry/acne-prone skin here. I live in San Francisco, California. Trying to start a new routine to prevent and wipe out redness/CC's.

I was wondering if I could get some feedback on this routine/products. I've left a few questions/things I'm wondering about below. I also included links below to Amazon pages (this was part of my criteria for choosing products, haha).

Questions

u/FutileFertility · 3 pointsr/tretinoin

I've been using it since the beginning of october. I started w/ once every three days. After three weeks, I added back in my vit C, then had to switch up my cleanser, so I only just went up to once every two days.

Skin-type: Sensitive. What sensitive means for me: sometimes my face will just burn and sting even with the same routine i've had for months. I can get really dry on my cheeks no matter how much I moisturize.

AM:

  1. Wash: Simple Water Boost Micellar Facial Gel Wash I prefer this to Cerave Hydrating cleanser because I felt like Cerave just wasn't washing my face. I could wash my face three times with Cerave and still have makeup come off on my towel. Simple doesn't do that. It also doesn't dry out my cheeks like other cleansers have.

  2. Clindamycin topical on affected areas (prescription)

  3. Vitamin C I like this one because it's made fresh when you buy it (they even write the date on the label). I keep it in my fridge. It was made on Aug 31 and it has yet to oxidize.

  4. Cerave Moisturizer

  5. Silky and Light Sun Milk sunscreen So far the only Asian sunscreen that hasn't broken me out. It's a bit shiny, has a fragrance, but is really easy to apply and makes my skin feel soft. No white cast.

Morning Routine usually takes about ten/fifteen minutes

    PM:

  6. Wash

  7. Tretinoin on a tret day (buffer w/ moisturizer on cheeks only right after wash, then wait 15 min prior to applying)

  8. Moisturize

  9. Petroleum jelly (thin layer) on tret day

Night routine takes less than five minutes on a regular day, +15 min on a tret day

u/aktuarie · 3 pointsr/femalefashionadvice

Just chiming in to say I've been using an OTC moisturizer with retinol (Neutrogena Anti-Wrinkle Night Cream) as an experiment for my minor hormone-related blemishes and it has really been effective. I know the strength isn't nearly the same as Retin-A but retinol is my new favorite thing.

What's your routine OP?

As suggested by other already, check out r/AsianBeauty.

One thing that helps me is layering moisturizers. I use the Hada Labo lotion mentioned already first. Then a moisturizing serum, a heavy cream mixed with some facial oil (currently using tarte's maracuja oil), and then I seal it all in with an occlusive. I also use hydrating facial sheets masks weekly.

Look into [Laneige Water Sleeping Mask]([Laneige] 2015 Renewal - Water Sleeping Mask https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004KPYWM8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_wlWHybFT0KJ69) which is also sold at some Targets and Sephora. You can get a sample at Sephora too to try out first. This is super hydrating and one of the heavy hitters for hydration for me. I use it as my last step in my routine when my face needs super heavy hydration.

When I was suffering from dry patches the facial oil did the trick for me although I know you said you tried those already.

For all the stress though, I've still being doing what needs to be done, and something good happening would be a refreshing change of pace for me. I've been eyeing this face wash, moisturizer, or work out set because I want to feel better about myself.

I started the minipill, progesterone-only, in February 2016. My doctor didn't say anything about skin side effects, and I'd struggled with mild acne my whole life, so when my skin started developing deep, painful minivolcanos, I thought I just hadn't been washing my face enough or something.

Not the case. I didn't figure out it was the pill's fault until April. I quit it, and saw a dermatologist after the first May picture. She prescribed me differin. You can see the godawful purge in July - which she did not warn me about, and it lasted 3-5 weeks.

Differin and moisturizer became my routine for months. I thought my hyperpigmentation would fade by this point, but it hasn't, so in early March I jumped onto the serious SCA routine ball.

-------------------------------------------

So far I've been using:

[Glycolic Acid Peel once every 1-3 weeks] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LYMJG72/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1) depending on how my skin handles it and how long I left it on

And my daily routine, typically done at night:

A few drops of Vitamin C serum

And then some of that trusty Differin right on the scarring

And then Retinol Moisturizer Cream.

I also use sunscreen regularly when I go outside. I work from home and live in a dark basement so I don't use it indoors.

-----------------------

Thankfully I have minimal (though still some) textural scarring; my main problem is the discoloration.

I would love any suggestions about my routine or additional things I can do to help heal up those annoying spots. All I want is to get to a point where I can stop using foundation without people wondering if I have a skin condition.

And also - will the hyperpigmentation ever eventually fade on its own? How long do I have to wait? Or will this be with me for the rest of my life?

u/bluesky557 · 1 pointr/AsianBeauty

If you search retinol moisturizer on amazon you will literally find this exact same product and bottle being sold under different brands.

I’m pretty sure it’s one of those scenarios where companies pay the same “supplier” for the right to slap their name on the same generic product. I have no idea how effective it is, but I would be careful with retinols.

I think exfoliation (BHAs like SA at 10-15% strength minimum) can also achieve the same wrinkle repair that retinol does, alongside dermarolling (CROSS method accdg. to pubmed) then hyaluronic acid - what is your opinion on this

u/screambledeggs · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

I don't have any suggestions for your eye bags, but I believe The Ordinary makes a retinol/retinoid products: Advanced Retinoid 2% and Retinol 1%. Neutrogena uses retinol on their Rapid Wrinkle Repair line and ROC has Retinol Correxion.

Then again, tret is way more effective than any OTC product. What you get is up to you.

You might also try Missha Time Revolution. It has the bifida ferment lysate, but unlike the Loreal product, it also contains other fermented ingredients (like yeast ferment), as well as oils and other moisturizing extracts like the Genifique contains, but doesn't contain the alcohol denat. It's actually considered a dupe for Estee Lauder's Advanced Night Repair. Also available on Amazon.

You actually have neither cerave in the tub, nor CeraVe PM in your cart. You have the skin renewing night cream and skin renewing serum.

This is CeraVe PM. That's what I recommend. The reason is because of the light texture, especially if you have oily skin. The others (Cerave cream (in the tub) or skin renewing) are heavier.

I know it's confusing because they have a ton of products. Check the cerave website to see the different products they sell, it might help.

When I was researching this serum (which I have a sample of) I heard people recommend Missha Time Revolution Night Repair as a dupe. A lot of people said they had the same results for a much lesser price.

I've never tried it though, so I can't speak for its efficacy.

Oh man I got it for £11.99 a few weeks ago but the seller has put the price up to £17.96 now, must have been a fluke: http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B003U7OYK2/ref=ox_ya_os_product_refresh_T1

It's cheaper on other sites but I haven't ordered from them.

The ingredients in that one was: Zinc Pyrithione 0.25%, Clindamycin 1%, Niacinamide 4%;
So Im planning on getting this since its got 5% Niacinamide:

Missha has a dupe of this one if i recall correctly. It is called Time Revolution Night Repair, the ampoule. You can find it on amazon http://www.amazon.com/Missha-Revolution-Science-Activator-Ampoule/dp/B00ATLVNIS)

I have heard that the Missha is a little more sticky but i think that tends to be a ymmv issue.

I've used all of the recent sales as an excuse to finally put together a basic routine after lurking here for a while. I think I've bought everything I need to start, but I had a question about this retinol moisturizer I found on sale yesterday: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015ORL3B8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Would this qualify as the moisturizer in my routine, or does it function differently than a standard moisturizer? I've seen retinol mentioned on here but don't really know what would distinguish it from a normal moisturizer.

Possibly a dumb question, but is it possible to avoid a purge when one begins using a retinol? A year or so ago, I began using a retinoid cream I got on Amazon. I had no idea what I was doing and slapped it on twice a day, and then had a ton of tiny whiteheads around crop up. I stopped using the cream and the whiteheads went away.

After some more research, I've started using TO's Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion once a week, hoping to ease my skin into retinol and avoid a purge.

But am I only fooling myself?

I have googled and searched this and related subs, but can't seem to find an answer.
