This is an easy fix that should run you about 7 bucks. The led strips in my 1080 strix card stopped working completely. It turns out that the lighting underneath the card as well as on the "republic of gamers" logo on the side are lit using 4mm diameter side glow fiber optic cables. What happens in the strix cards is exposure to heat over time causes the fiber optic cables to discolor and eventually turn cloudy to the point where no light will pass through. This is what is happening with your card.

You need to remove the plastic fan shroud by removing 3 small screws by the fans (one by each fan) and 3 small screws on the pcie connector side of the plastic shroud. Remove the plastic shroud and disconnect the lighting cable that's connected to the pcb. The underside of the shroud will have two long fiber optic cables running the length of the card secured with plastic clips. Carefully remove the existing cables and install the new ones. Make sure the cables are in contact with the leds in the little led slot (you'll see what I'm talking about). Then reassemble and enjoy! Honestly, this only took about 5 or so minutes and is a much better alternative than an RMA.

Here is an Amazon link to suitable replacements. You can cut them to length using a good wire cutter, sharp scissors, or cat nail clippers.

Good luck!

Looks like stars when you look at the strands head on, and they feel super soft.

Astrojax
Fun toy that most people don't seem to remember. Something a little different from the typical poi, orbits and hoops. Also more fun for yourself than other lightshow toys.

Movies and music that you aren't planning on streaming. Sometimes internet goes down or gets slow and that is a never ending stream of frustration and confusing when you're tripping and trying to watch a movie.

Cool moving projectors like this this or this

simply put, no. it will not only cost a BUNCH of money, but it will very likely break. if you want a bit of ambient light, maybe look into getting low powered star light head liner kit

super cool to have in your car and not obnoxiously expensive. plus they are relatively easy to install or have installed.

u/BaronRaymondoEVIL · 3 pointsr/cars

Full disclosure: I haven’t installed a starlight interior before. But since no one is answering I’ll tell you where I would begin.

No matter what, you’ve got to take down the headliner. So I’d do that first.

The quick and dirty lighting method would be to use LED Christmas lights — LED because these things are going in the headliner and I wouldn’t love having of a lot of hot things up there. Poke the lights through randomly located holes in the headliner (or organize them into constellations if you want to geek out), probably stringing the lights back and forth across the roof. Reinstall and headliner and — ta-da — stars! It would be best to find some 12V lights so you could power them with the car’s electrical system. Super-dirty method would be to use battery powered lights and just replace the batteries when you need to.

A prettier method would be to replace the Christmas lights with fiber optic lights — something like this. You’ll get tiny, beautiful little points of light and it’ll look a lot more professional. You can even change the colors. Right now I have no idea how I’d connect these things to the car’s power. You’d have to figure all that out.

But yeah, if I were doing it, that’s where I’d begin.

EDIT: Oh, the previous commenter already suggested 12V fiber optic lights. That’s a badass option.

These might look good, one on each side of your screen?

And definitely. Doesn't have to be canvas. Being as you have a white wall, you might wanna stick with the blue/black theme.

And depending on how that looks you could even hang a little knick knack between the two pictures like a galvanized letter or sheet metal carving of your favorite gaming emblem.

u/browneyedgirl79 · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Pictures of people, pets, etc that you love. Maybe one of those salt lamps...ooh, or a color changing lamp, like this or a fiber optic changing light, like this. Maybe a little magnetic whiteboard that you can also put inspirational quote magnets on.

Have you considered fiber optics for the brush part? You could wrap it with something to block the light on the side and bottom near the brush handle.

https://lightpaintingbrushes.com/pages/how-it-works

Also, if you can source enough clear plastic “bristles” you could attach them to a flashlight and make your own fiber optic brush. Add some translucent paint/color to get the desired look.

I’m no prop maker but now you have me interested.

If you’ve seen the fiberoptic whips it could be something similar and all you would need is to clip your ends to suit your needs or to shape the brush head.

Random thing that happened to me. My cat escaped and came back oily. We dawned her up. The water was very gross.

u/IntergalacticViking · 1 pointr/pcmods

Hey thanks for the input! I've come across another option that I think will turn out even better! I just need to figure out how I can power a 2 prong plug from inside my PC. Or alternatively run a discreet wire out of my pc to power this

I could paint the shroud black and drill holes just large enough for the fiber optic cables and glue it in place.

u/TheTrittRedditer · 2 pointsr/TripCaves

So basically I've been trying to visualize everything I want to buy for my trip cave and this is the list I've come up with so far. I think it's a good starting point for every trip cave as it covers most aspects of one. What do you people think!?

Why would you need a laser? Just a strong rgb led going to the fiber should be fine. Shit, I've worked with older units that used a bright lite and a spinning color wheel. Also that controller n remote are bottom of the barrel cheap stuff but should work.

Fiber optic lights or lamps, here's one on Amazon

u/sleuthmcsleutherton · 1 pointr/electricdaisycarnival

For colour changes I would say look at some Fibre optic lights (like these things, battery powered https://www.amazon.com/Fiber-Glacier-Color-Changing-Crystals-Westminster/dp/B00G97S4HE/) or if you are into making your own circuitry you could wire up some LED strips with a controller... could make the hat heavy though.

u/5k3k73k · 1 pointr/RetroPie

For power and activity lights I would just buy some hobby grade fiber optic cable to plumb the existing Pi LEDs to the Dreamcast lense. You can use hot glue to adhere each end (at the sides, not in the path of the light).

Thought of another one.. a fiber optic color changing light. Similar to this: Fiber optic light on Amazon. Mine started out with all white lights and would slowly spin (sometimes lol) while turning different colors which were not as vibrant as the LED colors today. Pale pink, blue and green if I remember correctly.

u/vrob01 · 2 pointsr/bicycling

Jep, thats the speed sensor from the Garmin 1000 Bundle. I think it's an amazing solution although pretty pricey when bought alone.

I have seen people attaching bike lights like these (https://www.amazon.com/Refun-Bicycle-Light-Intensity-Multi-purpose/dp/B00W191OH6) in a similar manner. Seems nifty at first but then a lot if the already low light gets blocked by the rim and hub. Also in the dark one can struggle to find the switch because you have to go through the spokes...

I got you beat, fam. My parents bought me this weird lamp when I was a kid made out of fiber optics. Like this: https://www.amazon.com/Rhode-Island-Novelty-Fiber-Optic/dp/B005X99RVG

Nowadays, fiber optics are made out of a springier more plasticy material that bends. MY lamp was made of actual fucking glass fiber optics. It would frequently "shed" them, and then I would inevitably step on them. Imagine getting tiny, invisible splinters that were impossible to see, and hurt like a bitch
