Ok, here's a tutorial of sorts. These were super easy to make, and I am not very crafty.

Materials:

7" vases - Dollar Tree

9" vases - Dollar Tree

10.5" vases - Amazon

Glass stones - Amazon

Submersible LED lights - Amazon

Calla lilies - Amazon
I ordered orange and navy. My wedding color blue is royal blue, not navy, but as you can see in the photos they are pretty light for navy, and are passable for royal blue.

The flowers come in a variety of colors, so if you're into calla lilies you can make these work. They have wires in the stems, so I just bent the stems up and played around with height and color combos until I had a set up I liked. Then I used those flowers as a template to cut the other flower stems to length with wire cutters.

The calla lilies float if they are not weighed down, so I hot glued the end of each stem to one of the glass stones and buried it under the rest of the stones. Worked perfectly, and you can't see it in the final set up.

The Dollar Tree vases are FANTASTIC, and I suggest looking there first no matter what type of vase you're looking for since they have a variety. They didn't have the taller vases I needed so I had to spend a bit more to get them from Amazon, but kept total costs to about $250 for 10-12 centerpieces. I don't think there's an appreciable difference between the Amazon vases and Dollar Tree vases, they go very well together.

My original plan was to use floating candles instead of LED lights, but I really liked how the shadows are cast with the uplighting from the submerged LEDs. It also makes a little bit of a blue glow through the stones. I am making another one-vase decoration (same thing, just the medium-sized vase instead of 3) with a floating candle next to a written memorial for my dad and my fiancé's and my grandparents who have passed. The point is floating candles definitely work for these if that's your thing.

Anyway, I'm happy to provide more info by request, though I think this pretty much covers it!

i got you.

  1. If you are able to have get out with/without the kids, go to the movies. a good date movie would be Aladdin this weekend. If you guys are into action movies, John Wick 3 is awesome (but not for kids). Or Avengers Endgame if you're into Marvel and haven't seen it yet. Plan this some time after lunch time.
  2. If you're not able to get out, then do a small scavenger hunt with sticky notes. each sticky note, write something that you love about him and a clue to where the next is. last one should lead to you for a kiss. then chill with board games or TV or whatever else you guys do in afternoon free time.
  3. Dinner time, cook something together that you both enjoy, but not the norm. whether it be salmon or steak. get wine or favorite drinks to pair with it.
  4. get marshmallows for the fire pit as dessert. melted chocolate too?
  5. Ask your husband to clean / wash dishes. During this time, go to the bedroom and set up. Get these flameless candles and some rose petals around the bed. Hopefully they arrive on time from Amazon, but they're also available at Party City or Target.
  6. Wear some lingerie or nothing at all, whatever your preference. dim/turn off the lights and leave door mostly closed. Call for your husband to come help you with something. wham bam thank you mam.
  7. After happy time, go play Overcooked for video games to end the night. It's free on PS4 right now if you guys own that . Or $20 on Nintendo Switch. Another good co-op game on PS4 is Little Big Planet 3.

Hello

I love fall. I wish it would be fall all year round to be honest. I am born in October so I feel a certain connection to it. I love walking down the sidewalk and hearing the leaves crunching as I walk and the crispness in the air. Deep cold breaths. I love waking up in the chill with my windows open and wrapped up in blankets. I love seeing the fall decorations and Halloween decorations. Halloween is the best holiday ever. Seriously.

I love this lil lantern

My friends threw me a HP birthday party a few years ago. Some decor things can take some craftiness, but they are great for a limited budget.

If you can get yourself to a dollar store, pick up a bunch of those small battery operated tea lights. (like these). And then wrap them with a foot of thread, fishing wire, whatever you have, tape the thread to the ceiling. voila! floating candles! (My friends tied them up with balloons, but that was an added expense)

Put a sign for the Ministry of Magic on the toilet.

Snacks! My favorite part of the party was that there were numerous different snack bowls, each labeled with a Harry Potter related snack name. Pretzel rods are now magic wands. You don't specifically need Bertie Bots every flavor beans, you can pick up regular ol' jelly beans. If you or a friend is a decent baker, you can make pumpkin spice cookies for pumpkin pasties, make brownies in a cupcake tin and call them cauldron cakes - and of course, Hagrid's 'Happee Birthdae' cake. And of course the butterbeer - alcoholic or non, depending on your age.

Play some Harry Potter soundtrack music, and make everyone wear house colors - and if they have, scarves/robes/etc.

I'm not much of a flowers person either, and the only flowers in my wedding are the bouquets and boutonnieres. I am having real flowers, but I'm lucky enough to have some connections to a florist so the flowers are fairly cheap. Also, when I was in a wedding where the bride used real flowers, the smell of some of the flowers could be so relaxing during the craziness of the day. Since everything leading up to my wedding has been so stressful, I just wanted the flowers to be something that would certainly be soothing should I stress out. :)

For our centerpieces, my fiance and I are renting mirrors from our reception hall and placing these floral bowls, filled with AquaGems and a submersible LED light underneath the AquaGems, on top of the mirrors. We had seen this done at another wedding, and it added a really neat glow to the room...and truthfully, the AquaGems are really fun to play with...

My soon to be mother-in-law was the only one upset that we aren't doing floral centerpieces, but I think it's because my bridesmaids and I have to be responsible for assembling the centerpieces and dropping them off at the reception hall, rather than a florist doing all the work. No one else has actually cared about that, though. Since my fiance and I are paying for everything ourselves, doing our centerpieces for 35 tables is way cheaper than floral centerpieces, especially since we were able to find all the pieces we needed in bulk or at Dollar Tree. After renting the mirrors, buying the materials (including shipping and tax costs), we averaged paying about $5 per centerpiece.

I have some light color changing candles I bought off Amazon. They're amazing, set such a fun mood and they also come with a remote :) I am in love with them and my boyfriend likes them too!

u/Anhyzer31290 · 3 pointsr/discgolf

I unfortunately have had to retire from disc golf (quadruple spinal fusion) and had to sell most of my equipment to pay bills. One day, I may be able to play again!

This seems to be the best deal after doing some quick looking. This should be enough for at least 3 people playing, depending on how many discs you all want to play with. I am also a fan of the "flickering" LEDs because they help draw attention to themselves more than a constant light. You can easily see these from over 300' away. You will be amazed at the shelf life of this set up. 1 LED and 1 battery can last you a full season of playing. If your disc lands in water, IT WILL STAY ILLUMINATED!!!

I would just open up the bottom and remove the battery and use a pair of pliers to crack the "candle" casing on there and carefully remove the LED (light bulb). Make sure you don't break the two prongs connected the LED, you will use these to attach to the battery.

I would slide the two LED prongs around the battery (if it doesn't work, just flip the battery over) and wrap it tightly with a few inches of electrical tape. Now you are the owner of the world's easiest flashlight!

I preferred to tape my lights to the top of the disc, it slightly affects the flight path and makes your discs easier to turn over but it is very easy to compensate for. I would always use This tape to hold it onto the disc. It is extremely sticky and holds up great in ALL weather conditions (snow, rain, trees). I have seen people use cheaper tape and it does not hold as well. The slightly higher price tag is very worth it! This tape has NEVER came off a disc unintentionally! A roll of tape will easily last a season or two.

I use the battery as my marker and set it on the dead center of the disc and put two pieces (roughly 6" each) of tape on there creating an X.

I have converted many people to the Light side using these LEDs. They are bright enough to see from a distance, but not so bright that they will destroy everyone's night vision every time you need to "glow up your discs".

For disassembly, I peel the tape off the disc (this is the hardest part of everything, proof of quality tape!), and then slide the LED out of the tape-wrapped battery. I keep the electric tape wrapped around the batteries to prevent the batteries from touching each other and shorting out. The first time you set this up, it is a slight pain and a learning process. It gets so much easier through repetition.

Now Glow-Forth and Throw!!!

u/Khirsah01 · 1 pointr/wiiu

Maybe OP can see about two small single LED lights that are normally used for decorative lights? Perhaps tape a couple of them together in the distance the sensor bar is and it may work? The LED kludge may not look pretty but might be serviceable.

I do like the thought of the atmospheric tea candles. Wait... Aren't there fake candles that are battery powered? I don't know if those would be powerful enough... You've got me curious to check Amazon now!

Edit: Do you think something like These Battery Tea Lights could be bright enough? Or there's this LED Bar Night Light where you might be able to use a thick material to tape around the center lights so only the two opposite ones are working, but they might shine in your eyes... I'm sure a thick material with small holes poked through to let some light out might work.

Hell with it, it's cheaper to go with this Wireless Wii Sensor Bar from INSTEN. I'm seeing 6.98 USD and you could just throw in some batteries and turn it off when you're not using it to save power.

Ok, I've been reading a bunch about this. Looks like these cheap one from Amazon ones might be perfect:

LED Lytes Flameless Candles, Battery Operated Pillars w/Remote Set of 2 Ivory Wax and Soft Pale Yellow Flame https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00RDLL1YS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_cdOmyb9SJAAMQ

I found a review where a guy said he taught the IR codes to his smart phone that has an IR emitter and he can control them that way. If that's the case, I would imagine I can get this working with my Harmony Hub. Also worth mentioning, they are available in two colors- looks like the Amber is more realistic and pleasing than the soft yellow, according to several reviews.

u/zebragrrl · 1 pointr/Wicca

Sounds like a warmer is the way to go then. That can serve in place on any incense you might normally have used. De-wicking a lidded-jarred candle might be another route, or perhaps a combination of the two. (chipping out some wax for use in a warmer out of a nice scented candle.. perhaps?)

flameless candles are little more than a flickering LED attached to a watch battery. They're very inexpensive, and the results can be really nice, since you can place them into traditional candle holders.

Another really cool way to go is with a chunk of crystal (quartz or selenite perhaps) lit from beneath by one of those cheap color-changing LED bases.

Edit: I just found out that Crayola Model Magic modelling clay exists. Dries in 24-48 hours without baking! Here's a page with some suggestions for working with it (the poster says the clay dries "slightly squishy" and they recommend a couple layers of a hard clear coat after drying, to give it a 'hard' surface, before painting.)

u/RikerOmega3 · 1 pointr/malelivingspace

I think the layout is fine

I'd replace the chairs by the sofa with swivel chairs. Gives you more flexibility. You can face the books, face the sofa, swivel all the way around and face the fireplace etc etc

Beyond that.

Ditch the small table where your coffee mugs are. Take those chairs and put them at the ends of the table and ditch the chairs you have their currently.

then, i'd take the picture that is on the floor the right of the bikes, and hang it on the wall above the fireplace as opposed to setting it on the ledge.

Then move London and Shanghai to the brick walls in between the windows.

Then wall mount the bikes and place the blue plant stand between them.

Lastly, adjust your track lighting. You may need to borrow a super duper high ladder, or rent one...but it will be worth it to have the light directed at your wall art and the shelves and maybe even kicked back at the dining room table.

And while you are up there...relamp them with warm white LED lamps and now you will never have to worry about them again.

And install a dimmer switch.

Lastly, get some LED candles. Maybe some of the Birch Bark ones You could have them on the mantle, the book shelves, the dining table, and maybe even some cool wall mount ones.

With dimmed track lighting and some LED candles, you could create a really nice ambiance of light

I bought [these] (http://www.amazon.com/AGPtek®-Candles-Wedding-Flameless-Candle/dp/B006O581A6/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1407374377&sr=8-4&keywords=100+flameless+tea+lights) and they are actually down to $43.99 with no shipping! That's super cheap! There is lots of selection on amazon, but word to the wise - do NOT get the flickering ones...it's not so much a flicker as a strobe light effect. It looked like a teeny little rave when I put three or four string wraps together in one group. I also like the warm white color - it's not too blue but not too yellow although some of them in the boxes look a little yellower than others.

That makes more sense! No candles? Dang I love candles. OH WAIT..... check out these "candles"! I know they're pricey but dude, they look so real! FMIL gave us some as a Christmas present and I was like "uhhhh wut?" But got home, revved them up and they're AMAZING!

I'm really liking these guys. They look and feel like the real thing without messing with a flame. Came in super handy during a recent power outage so I bought more. Finding them handy basically as night lights all over the house, especially in the bathroom--the light isn't harsh so it makes a very very "calming" atmosphere :)

Those are crap, I have one of these and one of these and a couple sets of essential oils from this company, and they make every room in my house smell fantastic. You put some water in the bowl of the diffuser, and some drops of oil, and it lasts for days. Way better than candles for how far they throw the scent, and they don't burn anyone or the house down. If he just wants the light to flicker like candlelight, I have these and they work great for mood lighting while not burning the house down as well.

This might be an odd addition to the list but Amazon has a set of remote controlled LED tea lights that light up different colors. I have heard of others using tea lights to track Inspiration. So I thought it might be a cool tool that others might be interested in.

A couple ideas...

For the candles, Amazon has some battery operated taper candles you could use. I've heard that if you poke a small hole through the top of the "flame" part of the candle and string fishing line through it, you can have them float from the ceiling. If the ones I've linked to aren't quite your taste, I'm sure you could search amazon for battery operated candles and find other results.

Have you any JoAnn Fabrics around your parts? They are a fabric haven, you could surely find the right material for your banner there - and if you need help, staff is very knowledgeable and could help point you in the right direction. And if you weren't looking for cloth/fabric, they also have other craft supplies there.

One of the most impactful aspects of a castle-type design for me is the stone walls. If you don't want to actually remodel your walls, there is the wallpaper alternative ( http://totalwallcovering.com/c74/stone-prints-wallpaper.aspx ). I did find this video which looks like it matches the idea you are after ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=amCmS3bpeVg ), and of course you could go for proper stone walls if that is an option available to you.

Aside from that, I think plain iron wall sconces are a good touch, especially if you have enough ventilation to have lit torches (or if not, fake ones such as http://www.amazon.com/Battery-Powered-Flameless-Torch-Insert/dp/B000WI9F6A ).

Plain wood is great, and this trunk ( https://www.etsy.com/listing/190787608/barn-wood-trunks-chests-steamer-trunk?ref=market ) looks pretty good. It isn't fancy or distinctly dungeonesque but in combination with everything would work well.

For a table, you can lay a plain wooden door across a couple of barrels (using wood glue or some other method of attachment).

Barrel: http://www.redhillgeneralstore.com/housewares/homedecorating/Furniture-Wooden-Barrels.htm

Door: http://www.homedepot.com/s/flush%2520door?NCNI-5

That's all that comes to mind at the moment. I don't know if you've already thought of all of this, but let me know if you want more suggestions.

Did bodyscan and sitting meditation today. Bodyscan I tried to relax as much as possible to the point I was practically asleep, that's hard for me since I tend to fixate on "doing things right" ... also bought wind chime and forest sounds, and the sound of summer rain (both off Amazon) to help relax. Also will be incorporating color therapy as blue light helps relax me, using LED candles (http://amzn.com/B00B1BSAOA.) I got through almost the whole metta meditation, up until the neutral person, I just can't do meditating on people I don't like yet.

I bought these and they looked great

In hindsight should’ve gotten the ones with the remote control.

u/plaidSamurai · 3 pointsr/cosplay

Maybe something like these [wireless LED tea lights] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B010EXXJNC/ref=sspa_mw_detail_1?psc=1), it looks like this is a set of 24 that use one remote, and additional sets can use that same remote. To hang them from the trees, you could place in glass spheres with twine and put cellophane around the lights to change the color. Good luck!

So, I basically eye balled all the measurements, but the basics are:

I ordered this image from Walgreens on glossy paper 5x7 image. I then cut the black bars from top and bottom and used the height of the image to estimate the height of the vertical walls I would need.

I had cardboard laying around, so I used the height + (thickness of the cardboard x2) to estimate the height and the length I made about 7". This way I was aiming for John to end up in the middle of the box while the edges of the photo touching the edges of the back. So I cut those out.

Once I had the virtical walls, I bent the photo between them to estimate the top and bottom of the box, penciled out two rough rectangles and cut those out for the top and bottom walls.

I got some silver paper from AC Moore, but I also considered just wrapping it all in tin foil. I cut the paper to the same dimensions as my walls and hot glued them to all sides. Then I hot glued the the box together.

At this point I had to shave a few millimeters from the photo in order for it to fit just right, so I used a paper cutter and it took a few attempts. I got it to where it was movable in the box but stayed put.

I had these candles laying around so I took one apart and after carefully cutting the flame in the photo using an exacto knife I pushed the LED through. Because the hole is just the right size the rest of the candle on the other side just hangs there.

Once I got the photo and the silver paper, the whole thing took about 20-30 min to put together. I'm sure if you take your time it'll come out must less messy. :)

Hope this helps!

I love the candles - I really wanted ones that gave off a realistic flicker and warm glow. I got both the LED tealights and the tealight holders (which came as shown, no painting necessary) from Amazon.

u/RetroHawker206 · 3 pointsr/halloween

I like to stick to the ones that use the CR2032 batteries, those tend to last a long time and the replacement packs are cheap. I tend to notice that the smaller "tea light" variety ones are always dimmer when you try to get that yellow candle flicker style and it's really not unless you go for the white lights that you really get a bright LED light. I use these: http://www.amazon.com/Instapark%C2%AE-Battery-powered-Flameless-Tealight-Candles/dp/B0064RFHHO/ for most of my shelf decorations and fake jack-o'-lanterns, they aren't the brightest but I think they do a nice job.

u/lomlslomls · 2 pointsr/preppers

While technically electric as they run on batteries, these flameless tea candles are nice. 36 of them for ~$10 on amazon and I just put a few around the house where light is needed (bathrooms, kitchen, bedrooms). They will last for several days running 24/7 (I've tested them).

  • Jars were from Amazon here

  • Tea lights from Amazon here

  • Spray paint from Home Depot

  • Used Cambria font size 200 in Open Office to print out the template for the numbers.

Inspiration/instructions

I think you could easily do these for christmas and birthdays and such too!

  • I got my mason jars at hobby lobby when glassware was half off, I will look but I think they were about $1.25 each.
  • I used less than a whole pack of tissue paper in each color. ( 99 cents each, you could wait till papergoods are half off for even cheaper)
  • I had some black cardstock laying around, so that was easy.
  • I used glitter modpodge because I wanted glitter. To make it even cheaper you could use elmers (and glitter if you want)
  • I'm going to get some cheap ribbon or felt for around the lids but I have been lazy :P
  • I got these tea lights, but you could use real ones for way cheaper

Don't paint red at all, buy a bunch of these electronic candles and they flicker and provide light under the black cotton and look like fire.

What always worked for me was setting a proper atmosphere. That'll do a hell of a lot of the work for you.

Dark and stormy night? Play the 'Dark and Stormy' audio. Find other sounds that will help set a proper ambiance. Personally, I'd say never use anything with music, even minimal music. We're "trained" to listen to music, even if it's very minimal, so as soon as there's anything that isn't "natural sounds", it gets harder for people to concentrate and focus because their attention is constantly being pulled by the music.

Want to take it a step further? Sessions only happen at night. No room lights; each player gets a couple LED candles to see their character sheets, with a few extra around the table for map purposes.

Strict no-distractions rule! No technology that the DM doesn't have full control over. That means paper character sheets and printed out spell cards, no apps!

Make some props, too! Make a rough copy of a map, rip the edges, crumple it up, uncrumple it, wipe it down with a tea bag and crumple it up a bit more. Wax seal some envelopes with notes ahead of time.

The story/elements almost don't matter if you can set a proper mood for everyone. You could be doing a generic assault-on-a-goblin-camp, but if you set the right tone and mood in the room, it'll push the players in the direction you need.

Another thing that helps with horror adventures is to use the rule "describe, don't tell". Telling the players "4 goblins come out of the bushes" is nowhere near as effective as "you suddenly hear the bushes to your right rustle. A snapping twig to your left. Four short, filthy humanoids come out of the bushes, their eyes glinting in the dim torchlight."
