I’ve always really been into music. I imagine that’s a given for most people on here. It started when I fixed up the amp and speakers I found in my moms basement when I was home from college one winter. They are both Pioneer, late 80s I’m guessing. Originally I wanted to use the amp and speakers to play music from laptops, phones, etc. at our college house parties which we did and it was awesome. I also took back all of my parents records to school with me and really didn’t listen to them, didn’t think a college party house was the safest place for a set up and didn’t own a player. Fast forward 7 years I’m finishing grad school and moving in with my girlfriend...we do a favor for her sister and brother in law and end up with an Audio Technica player for the free. Found Discogs pretty soon after that, and I’ve been collecting since. Today I added the tuner, also late 80s Pioneer. Big fan of the green light on the face of it. The shelf where the records are is a super cheap cubicle from Target that we didn’t put in the middle shelves. Ordered the legs from Amazon, probably a total of 75$ between the two. Anyways thanks for reading.

EDIT: Wow, didn't really expect this to blow up like it did. You all are really nice, thank you! I'm gonna try to answer some of the comments here:

  1. More details on the shelf: The wooden box itself came from something similar to this. Here are the legs I ordered off Amazon. Honestly just put those boys in with a drill very carefully. Took 45 minutes tops.
  2. Speaker placement/rattling: Agreed that I could place the speakers better, our house is really small and this whole setup definitely sacrifices some listening optimality for functionality. I appreciate the input! As far as the rattling is concerned, I really haven't had any problems maybe because the speakers are pretty heavy and sturdy--probably because they are so old.
  3. The Trane album: 1 of 3 albums that really got me into jazz music in college, the other 2 being Kind of Blue (Miles Davis) and Take 5 (Dave Brubeck). Saw people liked weekend jazz so I wanted to stick with the theme.
  4. The doggy: Yah, thats a 15 week old CavaPoo named Ozzie. He's the best, love him so much. Named after Ozzie Smith for any Cardinals fans in the house

Throwing out a few ideas.

Starting with the pine countertop. Apply a contact paper such as this marble one to add a more refined look. Choose a contact paper that is made for countertops and matches your home. Consider something similar to your bathroom or kitchen counters. There are many styles of contact paper such a tile and stained wood. I would also add table legs like these to stabilize the countertop, especially for my next suggestion. Make sure the countertop sits at least a couple of inches above your washer and dryer (I know it seems like a no brainer but just in case).

To help distract away from everything thats going on, I would add a cube shelving unit like this one. Use fabric cube boxesto store your detergent and other cleaning supplies. They come in different colors and designs. Make sure you order the right size for your shelving unit. This idea would help visually clean up the space. If you decided to do this, I would remove the wall shelf. I would not suggest doing this without attaching table legs to the pine.

Throw up a tension rod with a neutral curtain to divide off the room. I would use rings since fabric on rod isn’t good for constant movement. If your home calls for it or you’re into some extra, look into decorative hooks.

Hopefully my suggestions will help you create a great laundry room that fits your needs and requests.

After a massive backache from a play session on my new cocktail cabinet, I decided I needed to add some height. Sitting in an 18" kitchen chair, the control deck was situated between my knees.

Here's how I added an easy 6" of height. The bolts on the sofa feet are slightly larger than the bolts on the feet that came with the cabinet, but it you remove the old mounting plates, the existing holes for the feet line up with the new mounting plates perfectly! Easy win!

It's much more comfortable for me to play sitting on an 18" chair now, though my 5'2" wife says she wants a phone book to sit on. 😆 I'll get her a 24" bar stool.

Hi, thanks in advance for any help or advice.

I wish to build a work-space for painting that is 2.4 meters long (7.87 feet), 120 centimeters tall (3.9 feet), and 60 centimeters deep (1.9 foot). There will be a lip of maybe 2 centimeters (an inch) on the front and sides, and a 30 centimeter (a foot) splash-back. The most important requirement is that it needs to be perfectly level at all times across the entirety of the surface, and it needs to be easily adjustable to make it perfectly level.

Im planning on using laminated MDF for the surface, and 8 leg levelers

Is this the best route for creating a perfectly level work-space? Cheers guys and gals.

u/[deleted] · 2 pointsr/woodworking

Thanks! It was a fun build and I've loved using it so far.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0035Y5XUK

I haven't used anything like it prior, but they seem to be strong and well built. So far no wiggle, even on the legs where they are extended fairly far. The hex head top was easy to adjust with a long enough drill bit, but a flex bit might make it easier. With all the weight on them, it did take a second to adjust when I tried to do it by hand. One thing to note is that the screw positioning is wider than the edge of the 2x4, so I had to position all of them on the flat. For my use it wasn't an issue, but it could be a problem in some cases.

u/Dzimm666 · 2 pointsr/battlestations

Thanks! I'm very happy with how they are working out great how ever I would recommend not getting the 4" ones if you a shorter person. I'm 6'4" and it is border line to tall for me lol unless you don't mind you legs hanging.

Thinking about assembling a desk as my first DIY project, inspired by a lot of the posts over at /r/battlestations/. I'd be very grateful if someone with experience can double check my plan for obvious faults or suggest a better way of doing things.

I was considering buying a butcher's block countertop, since I really like the way they look. I was looking at this one from Home Depot as the length is pretty much exactly what I want.

I know this needs finished, a friend of mine recommended Danish Oil and this guide. Is Danish Oil sufficient? Whatever I use as finish I don't want it to be overly shiny. I'll use coasters for drinks and might occasionally eat food at the desk.

After I sand/finish the wood, all I would need to do is attach some legs, I was looking at these 28 inch hairpin legs from Amazon. I'm not super attached to these and would welcome alternatives. I just know that I don't want drawers.

Things that I may want to add but haven't decided on: mounting my monitors to the desk itself with an arm, and something to attach to the underside of the desk to assist with cable management.

Is there anything obvious that I'm missing here? I own a drill, other than the wood and legs I'd need to buy some sand paper and danish oil for the finishing. Would this length of wood need support in the middle? I have two 27" monitors that will sit in the middle of the desk, and keyboard/mouse at a minimum. My PC and PS4 might also go on top to the sides.

Thanks in advance for any guidance.

If you look up the “Karlby IKEA Desk” online or YouTube or any media outlet I’m sure you’ll find a plethora of information. It’s a very popular desk setup.

Not to mention it fit perfectly in my bedroom nook.

u/ElitistMango67 · 2 pointsr/battlestations

You all are correct, I went to ikea store and got the countertop karlby wood. Very durable and meant for rough encounters. Mixed with Grey or black Alex drawers and I love it. Very popular on reddit, I don't bolt them down but you can with these if you want. Also upgraded from a glass desk and I love this setup!

This is from an earlier reply I've made.

picture of the door (also yes, the color is ugly, but I'll repaint it at some point).

You can do what I do.

Door Table! All you do is buy a door, buy some adjustable legs, a screw-in keyboard tray if you feel like it, and screw those motherfuckers together!

Advantages

  • It's a stable table. You got a solid core wood door. None of that hollow core cheap shit. I can stand on mine if I want (and I am a pretty goddamn big guy).

  • You can make it whatever height or size you want. Want it to be half the size? They can and will cut it down to size for you at the hardware store. Want it to be twice as high? Adjust those legs whatever size you want! That's why they're adjustable!

  • Dirt fucking simple to make. Some hardware stores might even do the work for you in the store. All you have to do is predrill the screw holes and screw the legs in. That is really it is to it. Took me about two hours on mine, and I don't do any kind of handyman work.

  • It's a massive table (if you don't cut it down). It's more of a work bench then a table. If you look at the picture, I have room for my dual screen monitor setup with room to spare. If I need to work on a separate project, I just glide to the left on my office chair.

  • It's modular. Need to move it? Unscrew the legs from the mounting bracket, you're done! Need drawers, just buy some ones on wheels you can slide under it. Need a keyboard bracket, just buy one and screw it. Want cable management? It's just wood! Drill a hole!

    Parts

    Door

Door - $66. Note that this one does not have a finish coat, the one I bought did (it's pretty easy to paint, or find one that has a basic weather coat). Can't see anything in america (my one was made in australia).

edit: same door with white primer

Obviously, you'd have to pay for the entire door even if you do cut it down. That being said, it already has a finish coat, and for the quality of the wood (and the fact it is already in a table shape) it is worth the $66.

    legs

Ikea GERTON adjustable leg * 4 - $25 each, for $100. Amazon also has a heap of legs, but your mileage may vary (example)

if you are going to cut it down to half the size (or less) you can use these half-diameter legs and save some space/money:
    http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/30264301/

    accessories

And that's about it! You can add a fifth leg if you want the extra support, but you don't need it. All that is left is a keyboard tray, like this.

Once you're all said in done, for a couple hours of work, you will have an extremely sturdy and customizable desk. It's also hell of a lot cheaper to do then to buy a premade desk.
u/blargh2947 · 1 pointr/HomeImprovement

It looks like the counter is supported by a piece of angle iron bolted to the wall. And that whatever they put the bolts into isn't providing sufficient structure to carry the weight of the counter top.

Get a piece of stain grade wood that's almost the right length, and attach something like this to the bottom to get it level and carry it: http://www.amazon.com/Heavy-Duty-Leveler-Wide-Foot/dp/B0037MK8XC/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1416936895&sr=8-8&keywords=leveling+leg

You'll then of course need a way to secure that leg to keep it stable.

u/EpicThotSmasher · 3 pointsr/battlestations

I have almost this same desk (check my post history). The capita legs at Ikea are 4inches tall which almost made my desk TOO high. Love it over all though. There are better ones which I wish I would have went with BLQZR legs on Amazon which I believe are 2-2.5inches which would have been better, although I don't know the build quality on those. The Ikea Capita legs are sturdy as hell.

EDIT: these are the legs I was talking about on amazon, they were the ones the YouTuber RandomFrankP used as well https://www.amazon.com/BQLZR-Stainless-Kitchen-Adjustable-Furniture/dp/B00KQH8HMU

u/th30rum · 1 pointr/MusicBattlestations

Thanks. I ended up having to cut and paint my own pieces to make the second level. Like I’ve seen others do on this sub, I bought the Ikea 6” risers to raise it up https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/9178881986/ref=yo_ii_img?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Having the second level is pretty awesome

u/floin · 3 pointsr/BeginnerWoodWorking

For any of your metal tools, coat them in a layer of oil to protect them from the moisture. Just spray some wd-40 into a shop rag and wipe them down with it if you don't have anything fancier. Old tools with some rust can mostly be recovered with persistence, but you want to keep them from getting worse. New tools you'll want to oil as well, and keep in a toolbox or similar.

I just bought these levelers with the plan of using them with my workbench to both get a level surface and to keep the posts off the ground. Getting the wood off the floor will definitely help slow any rot. You could also try weatherproofing/sealing the lower part of the legs on your bench, but it may be too late for the existing legs.

If you're going to be storing boards and other wood stock in the garage, I'd definitely suggest at least a canopy cover for your stack, given how leaky the garage sounds.

Is the door with the gaps the overhead garage door, or a regular swing door to the outside? If it's a swing door, you could replace both the door and frame somewhat easily and all your gaps would go away. Harder than replacing a broken piece of glass in a window, but easier than replacing an entire window frame.

u/FlorioGG · 6 pointsr/Battletops

not op but i think you have to buy them separately. like the table top is one item, the two drawers are both individual items, then the 8 (or however many) legs are individual items (they do come in bundles however) then after you purchase you can assemble them in any formation you want

edit: looked up those stands if you’d like to check them out on amazon i think it’s the same ones

u/M0nkey80ne5 · 2 pointsr/battlestations

They are actually pretty sturdy. I have 8 legs, 4 per side desk with the top mounting to both, and they all came with rubber feet. The feet make a big difference as far as sliding, but the legs themselves are solid.

I went with the 3 rod design over the 2 rod because I feel like it'd also help. Here is a link to what I bought.

u/indianbinyc · 1 pointr/askgaybros

my sub built one from the toilet sit. He drilled these legs into them. Trust me I am very happy that he did that. It was as if I was rimmed for the first time.
Quite sturdy for me to sit on and good enouth space for him to go under with a pillow.

u/GubbyWMP · 1 pointr/HelpMeFind

You could try a version with a side mount bracket...but not as clean looking.

Good luck and thank you :)

u/Crimsonghost999 · 3 pointsr/hoggit

What I ultimately wound up doing was going the Ikea route. I bought 2 of the Alex drawer units, and a 98" kitchen counter top as well as 4 legs. You can get a smaller counter top to match your available space. I am very happy with the set up and the whole thing was around $300 which is far less than you would spend on a purpose made desk. Links to the parts are below.

Olov Legs

Small legs for spacing off the top of the drawer units.

u/Ecojiro · 1 pointr/ikeahacks

Thank you! This definitely feels like the way to go. I'm considering these to strengthen the back, and I'll pull the Alex drawers forward so they're flush with the front.

u/bgilb · 1 pointr/woodworking

Is there anything that attaches both to the top and bottom?

This looks somewhat close.

Edit: pretty sure this wouldn't work since the bottom part needs to rotate freely and not be attached to anything.

u/biirdz · 2 pointsr/palletfurniture

If it isn't too heavy, I would use some hair pin legs like here. Alternatively, consider some cross legs with a middle brace, it might looks really nice with that thick of a table top.

Also a Shou sugi ban wood burn finish with a coat of poly on top looks very good in my opinion. It really depends on what other pieces you have in the room/house. I just like the burnt finish because it keeps the grain of the wood and makes the table a center piece of the room. Just IMO

u/OLiViUSGaming · 1 pointr/battlestations

Thanks and sorry for the late reply. The wallpaper is from Ori and the Will of the Wisps, an upcoming game (first game called Ori and the blind forest is also worth looking at, has some great visuals too). The two stands at the side are custom made simply by using some small furniture legs similar to these which made it easy to adjust the height of the monitors.

u/RustbeltRoots · 4 pointsr/DIY

Thanks!

When I bought them, they were a $4 add-on item. Home depot sells similarly priced legs. Both retailers sell them in a variety of shapes and sizes. I used the same stain on the legs, and it matches better than the pic indicates.

Here are the support things.

u/_jentah · 19 pointsr/houseplants

Thanks for the love y'all! Here's the link to the legs!

u/Dropouter · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

Hey! Thank you I appreciate that! I made them using these [legs] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KQH8HMU) and used just the top part of this [monitor riser] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01A6LS9P0). Anything for the top works, one of the stands is a computer door from an ikea desk (can you tell which one, haha). I just found a monitor riser that was close in size.

u/fickelnickel · 10 pointsr/ThriftStoreHauls

Wish I would say they were thrifted, but it was just our future overlord Amazon. Only 40$ which is pretty decent.

u/sparkleplentylikegma · 1 pointr/pointlesslygendered

I only do wood working for personal use for our home. I’m still learning but I’ve come a long way. I need a better table to work at to do more detailed projects.

u/drawyourswordramza · 2 pointsr/battlestations

That height is correct. The KARLBY is 1 1/2" thick. So the top of the desk is 29". My old desk was 31 1/2" high so I was skeptical about loosing the few inches as well. But I can honestly say I much prefer the height of the IKEA build now that I'm used to it.

Also you can always use something to make it higher if you don't like it. I've seen a few IKEA builds use these to make increase the height. Here is a Reddit post where the person has these legs

u/gxbes · 2 pointsr/battlestations

I’m also 5’10” and I fit in just fine. I went from having the IKEA Linmon desk and it was almost the exact height as this one so I’m already used to it. If height is a problem for you I would recommend ordering some adjustable metal legs like for furniture. A lot of people are using these to put between the desk and cabinets to raise it up a little bit, and plus they make it look a bit nice imo. u/NotObviouslyARobot · 2 pointsr/DIY

I would advise you to forget about attaching it to the wall and instead put some real furniture legs on that piece of furniture. IKEA's CAPITA legs will probably do the job http://www.amazon.com/IKEA-CAPITA-Leg-Stainless-Steel/dp/9178881986/ref=lp_511274_1_15?s=hardware&ie=UTF8&qid=1459220311&sr=1-15

The real problem isn't attaching it to the wall, but rather that your existing supports kinda suck.

2) If you must attach it to the wall, once it is on some good supporting furniture legs, drywall screws placed into a stud will work exceptionally well. However I doubt this will really be necessary if you get some good legs on it.

u/jim2point0 · 1 pointr/ultrawidemasterrace

I found them!

They look perfect. Thanks. Now I just gotta rip everything off my desk and put them on. Hmph.

u/trekfaceastro · 1 pointr/battlestations

Whoops! Can't believe I completely looked over that haha. I'll update the post.

I ordered 5 legs in total, 4 as a set and an additional thicker one for support in the middle of the back of the desk.

The set of 4 legs was "Black Adjustable Table Leg Set - Set of 4": https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001DSZVTI/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

And the 5th leg was "28" Tall Office Height Table Leg - Matte Black": https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000WIXH8M/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Built in monitor stand and charging port are here and here.

I'll have a full size midi keyboard underneath the monitor soon, and will drill a grommet hole for the keyboard and mouse cables to travel through - so that they can run beneath the desk and not over/under the piano.

And I'll probably get some LED since that seems popular. And replace the banana stand with a real headphone stand, lol.

I feel ya. For what it's worth, the door was just a plain flat thick piece of wood, no holes for a door knob or anything like that. It's quite robust, went with these legs for it.

Just a thought for ya.

u/nosleep2016 · 2 pointsr/battlestations

They are not from ikea.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01NCKZRTL?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

As for the install... I screwed mine into the tops of the alex drawers and put a small piece of double sided 3M tape on the top of each leg. I have a 98" top with a lot of equipment on it, so im comfortable with it not fully being bolted to the top, it really doesnt move at all.

u/CriminallyStupid · 1 pointr/IKEA

/u/Romeo-X you rock!! I know the price is absurd. But you got me looking in the right spots. For anyone else in need they seem to be sold on amazon.com and ship to Canada: https://www.amazon.com/Ikea-Capita-Stainless-Steel-Legs/dp/B00DGRYI48

Ikea sells similar ones, but it looks like the risers in OP's photo are these ones.

u/Kwolf4 · 2 pointsr/battlestations

Hello, not OP, but they are something like these I believe.

I found a cheap used table online and ordered these hairpin legs from Amazon. Heres a update picture. I just sanded it down and put on a new coat earlier today so it's not quite finished. But it's a major upgrade for cheap. You could definitely add some hairpin legs on your current tables for a quick DIY upgrade.

u/Mortimer452 · 1 pointr/HomeImprovement

Leveling feet designed for an aquarium will have no problem holding that kind of weight, but they are difficult to install if your stand doesn't already have them. Wooden shims are cheaper and easier, lay down your plywood base first, then level the tank on top of the plywood.

Do not use these style that mount on the side of the legs/stand as they will rip out of plywood or MDF easily.

u/waffleocalypse · 1 pointr/DIY

How about some leveling legs?
These have brackets that would make them easy to attach to your bookshelf.

Essentially it's just a nice piece of wood attached to some of these and finished. As for the shelves it's just some trim boards from home Depot I had laying around.

>...aside from the bose tulip stands...

Here are some frugal tulip stands.

Your speakers weigh roughly 104 pounds each. Searching for "plant stands," "coffee table base," or "table base" provides interesting results. Attaching table legs to a wood plank is a no brainer.

Even this looks cool.

u/Kiartu · 2 pointsr/sonos

I mounted these to my desk, then just gorilla double sided tape (the industrial stuff) my play 5's to them.

They're... not going anywhere ;P

u/mareksoon · 1 pointr/ikeahacks

The Container Store is a store that sells home organization stuff; IMO, it's an IKEA without furniture.

Their desk legs. See their examples on that page.

Other desk leg from Amazon.

As for the suggestion I made, check out some of the ideas here:

http://sasayuki.com/laminate-countertop-desk/laminate-countertop-desk-superb-diy-do-it-yourself-search/ (random website I found with a few 'countertop' desk examples) Note the example where they added a matching keyboard tray.

I mean, you really just need to find a suitable surface and then whatever you want that's the right height to use for legs. If you have the budget, you could even get a motorized sit/stand desk frame and attach whatever top to it you want.

u/awyeahmuffins · 1 pointr/battlestations

They're these, which I've seen be popular on here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01NCKZRTL

But I didn't like the metal look so I wrapped the metal parts in this to match the drawers: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B078W57WGY

u/OZY1 · 2 pointsr/DIY

This is what you want, but a gate leg table would work just fine. If you're concerned about stability you can always put two legs on the table.

yeah bro its the ikea linnmon desk with two alex drawers https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/linnmon-alex-table-white-s59932698/

and i also added these stands to the drawers to raise the tabletop up a little https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KQH8HMU/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I've had the desk for maybe 8 months and I haven't noticed any sag or any abnormalities. I've very pleased with how the desk is holding up so far. I had the IKEA Linnmon before this and my monitor stand would always leave a dent where it was being placed and with desk, there's no dent.

I bought them on amazon. Here is a link: https://www.amazon.com/Signstek-Three-Rod-Hairpin-Vintage-Coffee/dp/B01LVTW8JB

Note: When I bought them, they had one of those 'click for $5 off' coupons. That appears to be gone now.

u/FireyWoodedHill · 1 pointr/woodworking

Got them from Amazon. If you search for “hairpin legs,” you’ll find many other styles online.

u/EntireOrchid · 1 pointr/woodworking

There are plenty of heavy-duty leveling feet. E.g. these ones claim to support 2000 lbs per foot.

If you're worried about catching you could bevel the leading edge slightly.

u/BigMurph26 · 3 pointsr/battlestations

No problemo, here you go.

They are adjustable but they work nicely for me at the lowest height.

  2. there are leveling feet specific for work benches. like these

Oh, that's right. I forgot they only sell one kind of desk... /s

For those that also wanted to know, it actually appears to be the Karlby countertop combined with two Alex drawer sets and then with some risers (probably these but maybe these as pointed out by /u/unsupportive-tech) all combined to make the desk, which is not a product all in itself (at least it wouldn't seem that way.

They make rubberized feet that'll fit on a 4x4 table leg. I think my father grabbed these at a local wood working store, but I bet Home Depot or Lowes would offer something.
