Take advantage of this freedom, because you'll be hitting the ground running from the moment you walk through those law school doors until the moment you take those 1L finals. Things are supposed to get a little easier during 2L year... but I can't really vouch for that since I myself am about to enter my 2L year. Take this time to spend time with non-law school friends and family, because you won't be seeing them for a while. If anyone you know is getting old or sick, take time to be with them now. I knew a LOT of people who had grandparents pass away during their 1L year and they all said the same thing: "I wish I had spent more time with them before I left." Take a vacation, any vacation. Read a book for pleasure -- I'm doing that now and it's been over a year since I last had the opportunity to do so.

As far as preparation goes, the only things that I would suggest would be:

  • Read, or re-read, "To Kill a Mockingbird." It was brought up multiple times during my 1L year and I hadn't read it since high school.

  • Brush up on your grammar. Even if you consider your writing skills to be on point, grammar is another beast entirely. You're going to need it for your legal writing course. There are probably a few apps that can help you with this.

  • Brush up on your general knowledge of U.S. History and U.S. Government & Politics. I did this by watching Crash Course lessons on youtube while running on the treadmill. The videos are relatively short and the host (John Green) is very entertaining: https://www.youtube.com/user/crashcourse/playlists?sort=dd&view=1&shelf_id=0

  • Buy yourself a nice planner and get yourself in the habit of using it everyday. I have been using this specific Moleskine horizontal planner for years and it has never let me down: https://www.amazon.com/Moleskine-Weekly-Horizontal-Diary-Planner/dp/1223132463/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1499834846&sr=8-1&keywords=moleskine+horizontal+planner+2017-2018

  • Make sure that you own at least two suits, as well as outfits that would be considered "business casual." Get these items tailored so you look your best. We had to wear suits and walk across the stage for a commencement ceremony on the third day of orientation. There were a handful of students who didn't have the proper attire and they were forced to run out the night before and buy whatever suit they could find.

  • Put together a little "law school emergency kit" for your locker, seeing that you'll basically live there. I can't even tell you how many times I needed the items inside my emergency kit. Countless. I used it at least twice a week. Various items included: chapstick, tweezers, toothbrush/toothpaste, Advil, mini deodorant, A LINT ROLLER, Tide to-go, bandaids, mints, hand lotion, hand sanitizer, a comb, a mini bottle of body spray, an extra phone charger, and a granola bar. I was able to squeeze all of this into a toiletry bag. Here's a nice one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M69R2WA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_zQplzbGBDHBF6. I also hung a small mirror on the inside of the door, as well as some pictures of friends and family.

^ THIS! Everyone thinks I'm kinda old-fashioned that I don't use a fancy app on my phone (I'm constantly on my phone), but I just can't get rid of a paper planner. This Moleskine weekly planner is the best one I've found - it's the perfect size, pen won't bleed through the pages, and it's got a pocket in the back for notes/businesscards/appointment reminders, and it comes with labels.

There's also just something about writing things down by hand that will help you remember things. I get alot of satisfaction out of crossing things off lists, so I'll use post-it notes within it with grocery lists, to-do lists, phone calls to make, etc. and cross them off and leave them in the notebook so I remember when I did certain things.

So glad I picked mine up on the Amazon Japans marketplace... I literally checked on the marketplace for days looking for a low price when the TG Gods blessed me with a $54 deal! Came in two days later and its beautiful! But I don't wanna open it...

I recommend going on the Amazon Japans marketplace for the Calendar and check multiple vendors you can buy it from until you find a reasonable price for it. Maybe a new vendor may come up like for me that sells internationally and you can pick up a good deal with it!

You can find them here: http://www.amazon.co.jp/gp/offer-listing/4089082579/ref=dp_olp_all_mbc?ie=UTF8&condition=all

Make an account and add multiple items from different vendors to cart. Check them out and have them delivered to your address. That's when it'll notify you if it can be sold and shipped overseas. After you find one that can, trash the other items and buy the one you can have shipped to you. Enjoy!

u/MarsWillSendNoMore · 2 pointsr/comicbooks

This isn't 3D, but the Marvel 2012 Calendar has a nice reproduction of that FF #72 cover. (One of my favorites, too.) You can still find it on Amazon.

I have been through a lot of gear and came back full circle to my original budget gear. The biggest boon from paying more is boots, hands down. I have riding suits, two piece high end gear, and everything in between. This gear is flexible and goes over my business formal attire. I carry my dress shoes. This gear is inexpensive to replace, sturdy, and incredibly flexible. The below is my final set list:

Helmet: https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/hjc-cl-17-helmet

Jacket: https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/joe-rocket-velocity-mesh-jacket

Vest (winter, heated, usually comes with wiring): https://www.ebay.com/itm/Widder-Lectric-Heat-Vest-Motorcycle-Heated-Electric-USA-Made-VEST-Fits-SIZE-44/323977252981?hash=item4b6e8c9075:g:YWAAAOSwtjBdygxf

Pant: https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/alpinestars-wake-air-pants

Glove (summer): https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/cortech-dx-3-gloves

Glove (winter, heated, make sure it comes with glove wiring that attached to vest): https://www.ebay.com/itm/Widder-Lectric-Heat-Thinsulate-Gloves-Medium-Very-Good-Condition/193197841767?hash=item2cfb7d1d67:g:bCYAAOSwEFhdxD65

Boot: https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/alpinestars-air-plus-v2-xcr-gore-tex-boots

Neck (winter): https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/alpinestars-tech-neck-warmer

Rain Jacket: https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/frogg-toggs-road-toad-rain-jacket

Rain pant (for fisherman, not the moto one so you don't get a wet crotch): https://www.amazon.com/Frogg-Toggs-Pro-Advantage-Bib/dp/B07G51L5NZ/ref=pd_sbs_200_t_0/132-3940543-5959211?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B07G51L5NZ&pd_rd_r=f9169fec-6648-4740-893c-801db1f7133a&pd_rd_w=wLZoe&pd_rd_wg=vAsv2&pf_rd_p=5cfcfe89-300f-47d2-b1ad-a4e27203a02a&pf_rd_r=5JZZZ8FQMAT7ZWXXB9WS&refRID=5JZZZ8FQMAT7ZWXXB9WS

I ride from 105 degrees down to the 26 degrees we have had this week for my commute. I keep all this gear in my saddlebag so I can adapt to any riding condition. You sweat when it is hot and you can sweat when it is cold. I turn the heated gear to maybe 25%. This is probably the most versatile gear set up you will see recommended. All of the gear is high quality for value. I use it every day rain or shine.

Total cost? $1000

You will see a lot of statements like "what is your life worth" and "buy once, cry once" and "buy the best you can afford."

All that will do is leave you with less money. Go with flexible, inexpensive gear with good safety ratings. You will learn what you like and don't like after living with it for two years. Then when it wears out switch to something that satisfies those desires. My Shoei helmets are not that much better than my HJCs (and I still wear my HJCs). Hell, my Bilt Raptor was 90 dollars and it is just as comfortable as my Shoei, but louder.

You don't have to spend a lot of money to be safe. You need to spend just enough money to get gear that you will wear as often as possible.

It depends on where it is in the IEP. Do you have a copy of his IEP? Can you look at which section it is in? Is it in his goals? The accommodations?

What services does he have in high school? Is he having a period with a special ed teacher or is it all push in services?

What kind of planner is he using?

I ask these questions because all of this depends on where things are on the IEP. If it is a goal, its in a grey area. If its in the accommodations area, its something the teacher needs to provide.

I am a special ed teacher, but I also have learning disabilities. So I can speak on both sides of the issue. I have severe memory issues and ADD that comes with all the Executive Functioning Disorder issues. I have a lot of problems with organization. I never got services until high school and really had to learn how to do all of this on my own. He needs to learn how to help himself and be supported by the teacher. The teacher can't do it for him. You can't do it for him. That is my belief as a person with learning disabilities and as a teacher.

On that end, here is what I did to help myself through. I always had the New York Public Library Planner because I liked the layout and it kept me more organized. It also let me check off homework assignments. At the beginning of the semester I would go through and write down reminders at the bottom about long term assignments. Like "Paper due in three weeks", "Paper due in two weeks", etc. I would highlight it in yellow. I would also put it on the monthly calendar. If he has a hard time organizing his binder, I would suggest getting an accordion file. One file for each class and behind each file for each class one for the home work. So you would have Math and then Math Homework. And then one of these for Cornell Notes.

The key to having a learning disability that effects the memory is routine. At the beginning of class he needs to get out his folder and get his homework out. At the end of class he needs to get out his planner. He just needs to set up a routine and get on it. Its how I do everything.

The Daniel Lue 2004 calender is one of my favorite Amazon pages of all-time. Just check out the reviews:

"Nice looking guy, but no nudity, and all the pictures are of him. This wasn't stated in the sales literature....was expecting maybe many guys, with the photographer's name being Lue. They were unclear."

"If you own the Mary-Kate and Ashley calendar you will notice many similarities such as 12 months and many days and a photo for each month. If you are concerned about the appropriateness, don't be because pants are worn throughout the calendar. It makes a great centrepiece for your Thanksgiving dinner, simply add autumn leaves and dried cranberry. You'll forget you don't eat turkey!"

"This is one cool calendar if i had a nickle for every really cool calender i saw i wouldn't have many but i'd have one for this because its cool"

u/[deleted] · 8 pointsr/WTF

Really, Joe Clark? You're talking about how a book is "Faggy" on your personal blog, but then you actually walk around with that hat on your head?

I'm gonna send you an anonymous email.

Edit- After looking at his amazon wish list, having this on there, I'm actually quite positive that he is, in fact, a homosexual.

u/ranchdepressing · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Day after day, he watches you, his gaze intense and never yielding. You allowed him in your personal quarters, so this intimate exhibitionism is far from unwelcome. On the contrary. You paid for it.

And yet you play coy. You go on with your life, ignoring his steely, loyal stare. Once a day, you look back at him, carefully surveying his features and the details he has to offer. He is flawless, and tells you exactly what you want- no, need- him to.

Every once in a while, you give in. You touch him, flipping him over and having your way with him. Sometimes, these occasions are so rough you end up with cuts. It isn't shameful to you. In fact, you would be more ashamed had you not indulged your needs.

After you do so, he seems different to you, yet the same. His gaze is the same, still dedicated to watching you, beckoning you, yet something has changed about him.

Still, day after day, month after month, you allow him to observe you with a quiet intensity, seeing every delicious moment you allow, giving you your money's worth.

I was going to recommend Thunderbird as well, but I haven't tried it.

After a bit of research, it seems Google Docs can use the calendar offline, and sync with your iphone, so that might be exactly what you're looking to do.

I've had a bit of a rough night, I'll do some more research and see if there's another way. I might be getting a cell phone soon, and I'd like to be able to do this. I'll probably go android, mind you.

In the mean while, I hear these are pretty reliable. Har har.

u/8bitesq · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I recommend that you get a Moleskine planner! They are very sturdy and come in a variety of stiles and colors. Just make sure you week the right one! Get the ones that have a lined page and a page with each day on it for every week. So you can write notes, make check lists, etc. on the lined page and put all your daily activities on the other. This one in particular is freakin' adorable.

However, since you're an engineer and perhaps visual time management may work better, have you considered the LEGO time management tools? There are a number of them and you can Google more but this one and this one seem the most useful to me!

u/sparkle-derp · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

These weekly planners from Moleskine are a must-have for planning out when homework is due, and they always save me SO many headaches because I can avoid missing deadlines or waiting until the last minute. They also come in a ton of colors! That's what I think you shouldn't be without next semester.

Here's an item worth $5 on my wishlist including Prime shipping: Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs DVD.

I don't have an item worth less than $2 on my wishlist, so if I win the second raffle, just run it again.

Have a great, productive night! Sorry about your homework, I'm in the same boat tonight. MORE CAFFEINE!

u/dreamgal042 · 1 pointr/beyondthebump

I'm doing this simple calendar along with a memory box. I still have my hospital bracelet and bassinet card from when I was born, along with letters from my grandmother and sisters from when I was a kid that my mom kept for me, and I love being able to look back. I'll get a small box to keep things like ultrasound photos, letters, hospital memorabilia, etc as baby grows up.

I had a baby book, but ended up returning it because the chances of me filling it out are slim, especially when we get to baby #2 or 3, and I want to do something more easily reproduceable for future siblings.

  • I have a key lanyard which is literally attached to my purse. I also have one of those pull apart keychains in case I need to take it off; I rarely do because then I lose them.

  • My car keys are on a small lanyard with a clasp, which also attaches to my purse.

  • And my purse? Haha! It's an Osprey Flapjill Courier Bag. You can usually get the previous year's style for cheap on Amazon. I tend to carry books with me, so you can see why I'd need this. Also, it has a pocket for everything.

  • Within this bag, I portion everything into a clear plastic zipper pouch such as this. So things are easily separated.

  • White erase boards are a necessity in my house. I have several. They also make magnetic white erase sheets, which you can put on your frig to remind you of the perishables within your refrigerator.

  • This year I got Susie Shubert's Bad Ass Planner. She has three rows for each day, and I actually use those rows differently than what she has set up. It's an attempt for me to set goals for each month.

  • I also use the Staples Arc Notebook for project planning and jotting down ideas. This goes into my hefty "purse."

  • I use Google Calendar (which sends reminders to my phone and email) for everyday scheduling of things like doctor appointments, hair appointments, etc. Basically, anything I have to go out of the house for is in Google Calendar.

  • Finally, I use the List: Daily Checklist Plus app, which puts a list on my phone to remind me to do the things I have to do every day.

I hope this isn't too big of a list to go through!
u/Stranger0nReddit · 3 pointsr/Gifts

I suggested this in another post, but having to display this creepy sequin nicolas cage pillow could be pretty funny.

Hey, it's this one: http://www.amazon.de/Star-Wars-Episode-VII-Kalender/dp/3840147158/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1451059678&sr=8-10&keywords=Star+Wars+7%3A+Das+Erwachen+der+Macht+kalender

Apologies for amazon.de, you can find it on amazon.com or whatever as well I reckon.

I suppose "huge" was a big word, hope you didn't expect it to be as big as a wall. It is pretty big though.

u/mastrepolo · 1 pointr/gameofthrones

The Dabel brothers publishing were the ones that commissioned the cover art prints. But their website has been down for a while, plus the Amazon page says they're calenders out of print. Here's the link that announced when it came out. It will be hard to get a calender(specially the limited print one with Ned Stark on the front), but good luck on trying to find one let me know if you find it.

u/marymap · 1 pointr/blogsnark

I have this one and like it! https://www.amazon.com/Painted-Petals-Gilded-Undated-Planner/dp/0735347905

I wish it weren't undated, but I bought it for grad school in September when everything I could find in-store was starting in January 2018 so I just wrote in all the dates, which is a little annoying but the planner is pretty so it was worth it.

u/CraigEllsworth · 2 pointsr/loseit

Well, if you can't find one premade, you can make your own by taking recipes from /r/eatcheapandhealthy, /r/1200isplenty, or /r/familyrecipes. Pick your 31 favorites, shuffle them together, and you've got your monthly meals!

Also, something like this might work for you.

I love the 1st year calendars! My Life as a Baby: A First-Year Calendar (Woodland Friends) https://www.amazon.com/dp/1441321233/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_Drw6CbS534G2C

There’s a bunch of different ones on amazon

u/laniastarpower · 2 pointsr/femalefashionadvice

I've been using this one for a couple years. I love that there's a blank page on the right side because often I have notes/reminders/lists that aren't date specific.

My Life as a Baby: A First-Year Calendar (Woodland Friends) https://www.amazon.com/dp/1441321233/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apip_amRuU21Ke3Ix7

I bought this one. It’s the size of a wall calendar, has a space for one photo a month, a calendar page where you write in the dates and can write down when important things happened, and a few open ended questions for each month.

There are also stickers for milestones like crawling, walking, one month old, etc.

There are other themes available too if you search around.

For when she’s older I plan to get a “School Days” book. It has a pocket page for each year of school. The pages again has a space for a photo, and some questions, and then the pocket to put in some school work, report card, etc. (not a lot of space, so can’t save everything in it, but has space for some samples of stuff from that year.
