Top Reddit comments about Ginger Herbal Supplements:

*Ashwagandha- I had chronic stress/anxiety-induced nausea and vomiting for years and it was eliminated within 3 hours of taking Ashwagandha (i use Gaia). The anxiolytic effects of ash- lasted ~1 month with daily use (~350 mg withanolids), but the stress reducing/chronic nausea is still gone (after 8 months). I gained ~8 pounds in 3 months with just ashwagandha.

  • Cannabis edibles (it's not the same effect as smoking) (e.g. Dixie Elixirs Relaxing Mints (I take 5 mg/day)]. I've happily gained 20 pounds since taking one each day (with ashwagandha).

  • Kratom (feels similarly to cannabis, and increased my appetite). I've only recently tried this. You take it as a single cup of tea (Gaiaethnobotanicals is a popular place to buy from, according to Reddit)

  • Ginger pills [you will use these very infrequently (e.g. once every 6 months) if you use the ash- and cannabis, at least]

Being susceptible myself, I believe that VR sickness is an issue.

First, I'd like to point out that, in my experience, if you give people the chance, they will tell you that they are not susceptible, then play for a short time and quit. They will then tell you that they feel fine. However, when they get home, they will tell all of their buddies how bad it was. All in the name of pride. Plan on this. I make people eat ginger while they're waiting their turn, I don't ask anymore.

Second, there is supposedly an effective way to combat VR sickness, but the only researchers saying anything about it are keeping mum. It involves generating vibration to the back of your skull, drowning out the signals from your inner ear. (sort of) But there are no devices that use it.

Third, you do grow into your 'VR legs'. In other words, with time it gets better. But it will never go away, to my knowledge.

Last, the only effective remedy that I know of, and it allows me to use 'free movement', is to eat ginger. I eat candied ginger, usually, but I'll take capsules, too, to keep my sugar intake down. For most of us, ginger removes the nausea. You can still feel the effects, and it feels weird, but the nausea is gone. Note that you can break the effect, so don't overdue it by playing superman!

Edit: note that we call turning with a controller 'insta-puke' turning. Do NOT use a controller to turn!!!! Also, movement oriented on the where the headset is pointing (like what Oculus uses regularly) is known to cause VR sickness: try to avoid using those experiences as demo's.

Same here. Chewing gum, ginger rescue chewables and beer have really helped me.

You can get Ginger Rescue at any natural grocery store. Ginger Rescue

Lol all good. http://www.amazon.com/Natures-Way-Ginger-Root-Capsules/dp/B00014EECK This one's fine I'm sure.

Or most grocery/health food stores will have em. Raw ginger would be fine too, but pills seem easier.

Im sure you can, like walmart or target. I get mine off amazon.

Would you recommend candied ginger over something like this?

Nature's Way Ginger Root, 550mg, 180 Capsules (Pack of 2) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001E10C9I/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_TlzlzbNZCYTR7

I would try to take it 45 minutes to an hour before using the vive again

u/milk-jug · 3 pointsr/explainlikeimfive

Sure thing!

There's no need to mess around with different types of pills and so on, I just bought a few bottles of these Amazon Link without referral, and pop 2-3 pills (3 for FPSs, 2 for regular gaming) and I'm good to go for hours :)

You might have to take them again after a long session of gaming though (maybe after 3-4 hours or so, which is where the effect of the ginger wears off for me).

It works wonders for me, they should sell this s**t through Steam, think of all the money they could make off motion sickness sufferers like us.

They could even bundle this with Resident Evil and make it a bonus pack ;)

u/Ben52646 · 2 pointsr/Drugs

This will help immensely with the nausea. Take every morning to prevent nausea all day.

u/autocannibal · 4 pointsr/gout

Im a fan of gouch. Usually if I feel a flare-up start and I can get some of this stuff down it wont turn into a full on flare-up. Either way this stuff is like a secret weapon against any kind of inflammation.

u/Gundamnitpete · 12 pointsr/pcgaming

turn only using your real body, turn the vignette to maximum, set the player speed to lowest, and use a bow.

That should get you moving around just fine. Then dial the vignette down and the movement speed up slowly over time. Give your body time to adjust.

Also Mythbusters has shown ginger pills to be VERY effective at stopping motion sickness. Just take a couple, about 30-45 minutes before you plan to start playing.

u/shortskirtlongjacket · 3 pointsr/birthcontrol

Yeah, I could never get a regular bedtime habit down for mine so I take them in the morning, which makes the nausea way worse. What I do is just pop a ginger pill at the same time - bingo - no nausea!

I'm probably biased because I have vertigo and get motion sickness and use the ginger for those all the time and think it's great. But, it's safe (all it is, is the same powdered ginger you buy in the spice aisle, but in a little capsule thingy) and even if it's a placebo effect at this point it's only a few bucks for a big bottle so I figure what the heck.

u/Midsagittal · 2 pointsr/emetophobia

Yes, I believe so. This is the brand I use. I take 1 pill, 2 max if my stomach is upset.

Ginger tea.

I have a cup of this every morning to settle my stomach: http://www.amazon.com/Organic-India-Tulsi-Lemon-Ginger/dp/B0013AHIHO

Ginger pills work wonders. Also don't eat anything at all or drink anything but water and gingerale.

Definitely ginger.

Ginger candy may not help if it doesnt actually contain ginger, but rather ginger flavor.

u/Sharp-of-Toothe · 1 pointr/oculus

Has anyone tried taking one or two ginger caps 20-30 minutes prior to playing a title that would normally make them sick? I'm very lucky in that I have no motion nausea at all no matter what but when I have had nausea from other things in the past I take one of my wife's ginger caps and it goes away in about 20 minutes.
