🎓 Reddit experts on ginkgo biloba herbal supplements
The comments and opinions expressed on this page are written exclusively by redditors. To provide you with the most relevant data, we sourced opinions from the most knowledgeable Reddit users based the total number of upvotes and downvotes received across comments on subreddits where ginkgo biloba herbal supplements are discussed. For your reference and for the sake of transparency, here are the specialists whose opinions mattered the most in our ranking.
I haven't had too much experience besides piracetam. Like I mentioned, I supplement it with choline occasionally, and I've taken choline on its own before. It seems to emphasize the clear-headedness aspect of piracetam a bit more. Like, as opposed to simply observing the natural unfolding of your internal dialogue, it's easier to control your thoughts; it's like you're slightly more in the driver's seat. It's like you're the conductor of your train of thought (bad pun).
I've also tried aniracetam a couple of times just because a friend had it and offered me some. I may be mistaken, but I think it's basically just a more purified version of piracetam, so you don't need to take as much to get the same effect. I'm not familiar enough with it to elaborate on the subjective effects.
I'm not even sure if this is classified as a nootropic, but rodiola rosea is pretty neat (http://www.amazon.com/Natures-Way-Rhodiola-Rosea-Vcaps/dp/B0001APVP8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1377375730&sr=8-1&keywords=rodiola+rosea). From my experience with it, it's not very stimulating on its own and it doesn't really provide a palpable energy boost. BUT, it is quite effective at prolonging mental stamina. Like if you had a cup of tea and then had a dose, the energy boost from the tea would seem to last much longer. It doesn't really wake your mind up so to speak, your level of mental energy just sort of plateaus and lasts longer. I'd recommend it.
There's also L-theanine (https://www.google.com/shopping/product/8127454047477366049?q=l-theanine&client=firefox-a&hs=Fxg&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&bav=on.2,or.r_qf.&bvm=bv.51156542,d.dmg,pv.xjs.s.en_US._-554IbEZc0.O&biw=1268&bih=533&tch=1&ech=1&psi=MRwZUqqDDIWn4AO1sID4Dw.1377377507796.3&sa=X&ei=MxwZUovoMvPe4AP0uoCwDQ&ved=0CJABEPMCMAM), which goes good with say.. a strong cup of coffee. People recommend taking it with caffeine pills. It allows you feel the raw stimulation from the caffeine without some of the negative side effects like the jitters or nervousness. It sort of chills you out, but you don't lose any mental stimulation because of it. It make it easier to harness and control the energy. It's also a natural ingredient in green tea.
I also recently started taking ginko biloba (http://www.amazon.com/Foods-Ginkgo-Biloba-120mg-Vcaps/dp/B0013OVZCO/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1377377768&sr=8-4&keywords=ginko+biloba). It doesn't really seem to stimulate my mind or enhance my memory very much. It's hard to explain. It sort of partially eliminates extraneous mental chatter..if that makes any sense. It seems to quiet your automatic thoughts a bit, and sort of puts your mentality more in the present moment. Sometimes the effects can be felt on a bit of a physical level (for me anyways), in a good way. It seems to increases blood flow throughout your whole body, and it can make you feel sort of loosy-goosy, like as if you had just stretched or something. One notably neat thing I've noticed about it is that it can make time seem to fly by sometimes. I've been taking it at work recently; usually 3-4 60mg capsules over the course of a ~10 hour shift. Usually the last few hours of the shift would seem to go by SO SLOW, but now when I dose on biloba, more often than not, I find myself rushing to finish a bunch of stuff I had to do because I lost track of time and the hours just flew by, and I barely even noticed.
This one is sort of random, and hardly a nootropic, but I am a fan of this stuff (http://www.amazon.com/5-Hour-Energy-Decaf-Citrus-12-Count/dp/B001BWY67Y/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1377379042&sr=8-1&keywords=decaf+5+hour+energy). It gives you most of the good stuff from energy drinks, minus the obnoxious (often ambiguously labeled) amount of caffeine. It gives you a nice smooth boost of energy that feels very natural. And you don't have to worry about not being able to fall asleep later.
I once made a nootropic concoction of my own, and went through a phase where I would have it if I really needed a boost. I would brew green tea and black tea together, mix in some piracetam, and then put an Emergen-C (http://www.amazon.com/Emergen-C-627794-Super-Orange-30-count/dp/B00016RL9G/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1377379646&sr=8-1&keywords=emergenC) in it, mix it up, and chug it all down. It tasted...okay. But it certainly did the trick. Also mixing V8 vegetable juice and piracetam can make you feel pretty nice, it sort of tastes like vegetables that have just been sprayed with pesticide though :X
I didn't even realize I was such a nootropic nerd until I started ranting and raving in this comment section. You've opened the flood gates lol. There's still a lot I've yet to try and many I've never even heard of. PM me if you want to ask any follow up questions =)
PS, sorry about the obnoxiously long links...whatevs
My wife has been helping reduce her seizures/headaches with these three things. I will list them by most helpful to least helpful.
She also notices a big difference trying to get enough sleep and taking steps to reduce her stress and thats free. :) I hope this helps you. Have a happy new year.
Well I originally started taking it for anxiety, but the effects helped in other ways too. Mot helpful for me is the anti-anxiety. But also the increased mood is nice too. As for the ADD part, I have found that my memory has improved, which was previously a problem due to lack of focus. The bacopa has helped lessen my scatterbrain tendencies which has helped me focus. It's definitely worth a try at the very least. Very few side-effects, some of which were even helpful (no more constipation). You probably won't notice any effects the first day, but after a few days-week, you will notice a difference. Anyways, you can order it from Amazon or purchase it at Whole Foods, or a similar store. But I would highly recommend this brand. The quality of other brands has been questionable at times, but this company has continued to sell quality product.
Also there are several scientific studies that are available online which go into greater detail if you're curious.
Thanks for the replies so far. After doing some more research, I leaning towards this product for ginseng:
http://www.amazon.com/Paradise-Herbs-Ginseng-Vegetarian-Capsules/dp/B00065IABA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1412526046&sr=8-1&keywords=red+korean+ginseng+paradise
It seems like a good product with a high level of standardization. I have to admit however that I wish it didn't come with a "Proprietary Blend of Synergistic Herbal Extracts", it seems a bit gimmicky to me.
I've also decided to try ginkgo biloba as well. I have heard that these two are particularly synergistic for promoting memory retention. This brand seems to be a popular and well reviewed choice:
http://www.amazon.com/Doctors-Best-Strength-Ginkgo-120-Count/dp/B000NRXNT0/ref=sr_1_1?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1412525972&sr=1-1&keywords=doctor%27s+best+ginkgo
Anyone have any experience with these brands??
I don't know if you were joking but please don't kill yourself. Please call 1-800-273-8255 and talk to someone.
I've been as low and desperate as you are. There is hope. Gluten-free is what cured my brain fog and has allowed me to return to college with a 3.7 GPA. Keep in mind that it might take weeks of a strict no-gluten diet to finally feel relief.
I also highly recommend taking rhodiola rosea and ginkgo biloba. This is the product I use and it comes out to like $0.45 a day: https://www.amazon.com/Prince-Peace-Ultra-Ginkgo-vials/dp/B00DQBGX9M/ref=sr_1_6_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1467417502&sr=8-6&keywords=prince+of+peace+rhodiola
I'm so happy you commented on my post - you're one of the people here that I consider knowledgeable. I will be working with ~$30, and found this ginko biloba as well as this black seed oil
I think I will start there. I need to get back to making kale smoothies again and look into a green powder for sure. I'll be getting blood work done in August to see what's up. I also take Vitamin D 1x/mo as prescribed by my doctor. I was self administering IV B12 shots too but need to refill the syringe prescription when I see my PCP. Those are fun :]
While I understand why you may think that, it just isn't true. The true statement is that most synthetic nootropics are not available to be sold on Amazon. However this is a small part of the nootropics market.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B004S5SN66/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?qid=1420983895&sr=8-2&pi=AC_SY200_QL40
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000WJH2HI/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1420983992&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SY200_QL40
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00759BSDM/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?qid=1420984028&sr=8-4&pi=AC_SX110_SY165_QL70
These are three nootropics that are doing very well. There's plenty of room in this market to launch a "Natural Nootropic Super Blend" with a snazzy label and clever marketing. You'll never find good opportunities if you don't open your eyes to them, and just assume things cannot be sold.
Ginko Biloba is amazing.
I can easily remember things I normally wouldn't. It's a surreal feeling. Of course we're all different and may have different effectiveness per person.
There are several brands of it, I have only tried Swanson. If anyone else can back me up on this, what brand do you go with?
Has anyone looked at this bacopa brand on Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/Nutrigold-Bacopa-Clinically-proven-BacoMind-capsules/dp/B004S5SN66/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1376492501&sr=8-1&keywords=bacopa
I emailed them about the heavy metal content and they seemed pretty confident that it was very low. I can try digging up the email a little later, stuck at work right now.
The bacosides in the description is a little confusing but it looks like its between 50% and 20%.
Anyone else have any possible input on the bacopa SSRI interaction? Just want to get a couple more opinions before I make the jump.
I've always been taking this brand. Take 2-3 a day depending on what I have going on. I usually mix with caffeine, as I notice what seems to be a synergistic interaction between the two substances (of course there may not be, it just seems like it to me). I tend to find it much easier to focus, and all around I feel as though I can "think" better. Also feel more motivated much of the time.
It could be a placebo effect, but I recently also started taking ashwagandha and haven't noticed much of an effect from it even though I was expecting one.

EDIT: I did more researching and found two products. Which one looks like the better option to buy?
Thanks for the heads up, appreciate that. Wasn’t Prozac...can’t remember which they said. Not too keen on anti-depressants in general, especially using it for a non-intended purpose.
Edit to add: we first tried a 6-day run of steroids to see if it was caused by inflammation. No change with that.
Trying ginkgo (Tebonin Egb 761). It’s on order. Limited studies on it but it’s supposed to help. It a specific extract, hence the price tag vs regular ginkgo.
I used to have the same issue.
Dosing just once a day, it took about 2 weeks for the fatigue to convert into just a calm, relaxed, mood-uplifted state of mind.
Where do you get your Bacopa?
I use this:
http://www.amazon.com/Nutrigold-Bacopa-Clinically-proven-BacoMind-capsules/dp/B004S5SN66/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1373938603&sr=8-1&keywords=bacopa
>Antidepressants are what now?
Nice riddle. I would say NOW Ginko Biloba.
You'll feel the Tyrosine/Phenylalanine for sure, especially if you don't take them all the time. I feel 500mg of either, let alone over a gram, but you could just order tyrosine on it's own and have better control on your dose for cheaper (Phenylalanine turns into tyrosine). "Now" is a great company, it's disappointing that they don't have a better blend going on. They also have this which doesn't look that great either.

I was taking this 2x per day: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003DI94OO/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
(Nature's Way Ginkgold® 60 MG Advanced Ginkgo Extract)
Based on your studies, 300mg seems to be the magic number. Seems like many of them sell 200, 250 and 500mg. Not sure what to get, but I'm leaning towards this one. Should I consider the Bacopa, Ginkgo combos?
https://www.amazon.co.jp/Himalaya-ヒマラヤ-バコパ-60粒-並行輸入品/dp/B0006NZPGA/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?keywords=bacopa&qid=1573295034&sr=8-1&th=1&psc=1
This one. I live in Japan and this brand was the only one that seemed legit and ships to Japan so I’m taking this one. But I think Synapsa brand or bacognize brand might give you better results since it is more potent than this one.
Although I’ve seen lots of people complaining side effects from those 2 brands so maybe not...
I got mine on amazon.
Ginkgo Biloba
I will leave this here for all. Irwins is no fucking Joke. I have not touched Prescription since I found this stuff.
http://www.amazon.com/Irwin-Naturals-Maximum-Supplement-60-Count/dp/B001G7QH94
This is the exact product I bought -https://www.amazon.in/gp/aw/d/B007ZMZ358/ref=mp_s_a_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1511856301&sr=8-10&pi=AC_SX118_SY170_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=gingko
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01BCULYEC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_0erKDbRB133VE
hmm
Amazon.com has Bacopa Monnieri capsules for ~$18
>http://www.amazon.com/Nutrigold-Bacopa-Clinically-proven-BacoMind-capsules/dp/B004S5SN66/ref=sr_1_1?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1375681198&sr=1-1&keywords=bacopa+monnieri
And if you go to the manufacturer's website (Nutrigold) they also operate under GMP-approved and FDA registered facilities:
https://www.amazon.com/NutriGold-Bacopa-GOLD-Vegetarian-Supplement/dp/B004S5SN66/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1451264060&sr=8-1&keywords=bacopa+gold
I didn't say it needed 300mg of bacosides. It should have at least 100mg preferably 150mg or more.
The only time I said 300mg I was talking about how much non-extract was in the product you linked.
this product has 320mg at 55% bacosides for a total of 176mg of bacosides. Plus additional bacosides from the non-extract portion.
Nutrigold Bacopa Gold
Try this one: http://www.amazon.com/Nutrigold-Bacopa-Clinically-proven-BacoMind-capsules/dp/B004S5SN66
I found this on Amazon, but the first image is different from the others and its $60 fucking dollars!
Then theres this and IDK if this is a good site or not, but it sells it for $16
Would this theoretical stack cause any toxicity problems? The theoretical stack would look something like the following:
Substance | Dose | Doses/Day | Timing
---|---|----|----
Modafinil | 100 mg | 1 | morning
Noopept | 20 mg | 3 | morning+noon+afternoon
Piracetam | 2000 mg | 3 | morning+noon+evening
CDP Choline | 300 mg | 3 | with Piracetam
Rhodiola | 500 mg (3% total, 1% sal.) | 2 | morning+noon

I ended up getting the nutrigold one. It has Bacopin which is 50% bacosides(175mg bacosides/pill). Just need to take 2 pills(350mg bacosides), 90 tabs, and 16 dollars.
So it will cost about $12/month. It seems like a cheaper deal, perhaps you should look into it too since it is an integral part of your stack. They also operate under GMP-approved and FDA registered facilities so the metal scare is not a problem.

There's also a brand called "Nutrigold". They sell a bottle of 90 capsules for relatively cheap. Each capsule is 500 mg, with 175 mg extract of bacopa a and b in each. You can get it off of Amazon. I had no issues with the supplier. Fast shipping too.
