I highly recommend the ClicGear (I have the ClicGear 3.0 but apparently the 3.5 is out now with some minor improvements. I would probably save the $$ and get the 3.0 for $50 less). I love mine and I have never had an issue. It works great with my Callaway Org 14x cart bag.

Some tips when walking:

  • Do not push your cart onto the fringe or green.
  • Keep necessary supplies in bag/cart (bottled water, tees, balls, extra glove, extra socks, divot tool, etc)
  • Use the brake when you part on a slope!

Everything else is basic common sense. Respect the course, respect the others you are playing with.

Almost everyone uses them here in Australia. Very few people carry and even less ride in a cart. If I had to put a number on it I would say 97+% of golfers use a push cart or electric push cart. I don't really understand why people in the US don't like them.

The cheapest option is one of these two wheel carts. I used on for a while and it gets the job done but it's nowhere near as good as a three wheeled cart. The next step up would be a cheap three wheel which you can get for about $75. The main issue with these is build quality, you will only get a year or two out of them from what I've seen.

Best for the money would be the Caddytek EZ-Fold which is between $100-150. It comes with all the features you need including a cooler bag and lots of storage and is well built. The best is arguably the Clicgear 3.5 which comes in at around $220. The build quality is slightly better than the Caddytek and it's easier to get replacement parts/accessories for. Down side is extra $100 for the cart and it doesn't come with a cooler bag which runs about $40 for the clicgear one.

Personally I went with the caddytek because of the price and I'm happy with it. If price is an issue I would recommend going for the caddytek ez fold as a minimum it's streets ahead of the cheap two/three wheelers.

  1. I've never bought a pair of cleats. Ever. I still have it on my list after years and years. Would I like to? Sure. But I'm cheap and lazy and I've never done it and haven't needed to, although once or twice I do wish I had waterproof shoes while walking a course. Though I'm sure your shoes could get wet playing flag football too.
  2. Starter Clubs
  3. What courses and practice ranges are you going to honestly!? County courses by me are like $15 to golf 9 holes if you walk, which I often do. Less than that if you go for discounts and specials, which I don't really becasue I don't golf super frequently and can't be bothered to hunt deals! But you absolutely can. No one pays $200 even for 18 holes every time they golf, especially if they are not a good golfer. You maybe do that once just so you can say you played the PGA-level course that happens to be near you. Even if you don't want to carry your clubs, add on one of these for not much.
  4. Maintain club membership... this is not a requirement to golf. There are tons of cheap amateur leagues for people who just want to play. And lots of public courses. This is not some elite professional organization you need to pay dues to. Do you want to know what my handicap is? I can't honestly tell you because I don't know. I take the good shots when I can get them, rehit the particularly bad ones and kick the mediocre ones so I have a decent lie. Very few people who play golf play by the strict rules of golf.

I'm not going to say you are completely wrong, because you aren't but you are absolutely NOT representing the situation fairly or honestly. I very much doubt you are playing flag football at the level to which you are comparing this hypothetical golfer.

And this is part of the reason why everyone thinks that golf is "for rich people." It can be... like any other hobby with rich people that burn money on it.

I don't want to turn the free talk into a yard sale but I won a super nice push cart at a golf outing this summer (longest drive nbd). Definitely never gonna use it. I know there are lots of golfers on here (or buy it for your dad for xmas). $83.99 retail. https://www.amazon.com/CaddyTek-SuperLite-Deluxe-Golf-Push/dp/B00CFGUL2E?th=1

CaddyTek SuperLite Deluxe
I bought this cart yesterday and it was perfect for my high school student budget. I did a lot of research and the quality is great for the price you pay. The reviews are great and it is on sale for $71 right now.

Sorry dude, it's the Push Cart Mafia and it appears you joined the Pull Cart Club.

Edit: OP don't feel bad, you're far from the first in the sub fall into this trap. A number of other users have made similar posts over the past year. For those of you thinking about making a cart purchase please note THIS is what a push cart looks like. THIS is what a pull cart looks like. Yes, both allow you to walk and not carry your clubs on your back, but the former is far superior in functionality than pull carts.

Clicgear is the classic and you can't go wrong with it. I had a 3.5 and then switched to the Bag Boy Tri-Swivel. I didn't know i needed the free swiveling front wheel until I had it. Love it even more than the Clicgear.

If you aren't picky on color, Amazon has one for 168 right now...

I have a ClicGear 3.5, buddy has the 8.0, and the other guy I play with has the caddytek 4 wheel version 3. If I was going to purchase a new cart I would get the CaddyTek. Plus it’s $100 less than the 8.0.

Seeing all three carts side by side every week, I like the CaddyTek, it’s very stable, folds up easy and has the additional little storage area. Amazon has it for $149

I purchased this Caddytek EZ fold 3 wheel cart earlier this year. I've used it about 8 rounds now and I love it. I even got an open-box one from Amazon which made it $105. Even without that price, it is much cheaper than a Clicgear and just as good.

u/nonothing · 3 pointsr/golf

That sure would look nice. My wife bought me the bag, I came from an Ogio that was all black. Really brings everything together, except my swing path.

I use this CaddyTek in orange with a custom 3D printed top section that holds my phone, range finder, a few balls and tees and has a battery for charging my phone while I play.

u/svengeiss · 1 pointr/golf

I have the CaddyTek and it works great for me. Half the price of a clickgear and gets the job done just as well. It also folds up small.

u/Dalek_Genocide · 1 pointr/discgolf

I bought this ball golf push cart.

I then bought some plywood, L brackets and screws.

Cut the plywood to fit and used the L brackets to fit the cooler snug as well as to screw on the bottom so the plywood would support the bag on the bottom.

Spent a total of 50 bucks and about an hour or less putting it together

I bought one of these about 18 months ago and love it. Used up until I found a BagBoy at the local Goodwill.

I use a golf style push cart and strap my bag to it.

This is the one, except mine's not red.

I already had the cart from my ball golf days, so it makes a lot of sense.

I also enjoy the cart because I found myself picking up my backpack all day with my throwing arm. That's nothing at first but if you play a couple rounds a day it can wear your arm down.

Seems alot of people have Clicgear 3.5 that love them. So that's what I'm leaning towards. Not sure if the 3.5 and 3.5+ are different ones?

Free shipping with prime too. Keep an out on it though cause the price fluctuates all the time. I bought for $63 last week and then it was $45 this weekend and now back to $66

My wife bought me this CaddyTek for Christmas, and I love it. It's light, but has everything I need to include a spot for a jacket and a tiny subtle cooler pocket, you know, in case I want something frosty.

hold up - is that the same one as this one ... cause that seems like a deal

u/scubanarc · 0 pointsr/AskEngineers

I'm going to guess it's the umbrella holder attachment for a 3 wheeled golf cart such as this.

u/Chilidipp · 1 pointr/golf

Shit, the REAL old man push carts are the remote control motorized ones that follow you around. But they are super expensive.

Clicgear, completely changed my opinion of walking.

u/blackhawkrock · -2 pointsr/sports

It's that flat black portion that made me question it, normal caddy's come back up in a "V" frame between the wheels. For example https://www.amazon.com/dp/B006PP92H6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_IiXpzb79J482J

I bought this one a few months ago based on the reviews and price. It does everything I need it to do, can't even think of any reason I'd buy a more expensive one.

Green one is $65.

My buddy has this same one, and has had no issues over the last few years so I pulled the trigger.

u/rockstarmode · 2 pointsr/golfclassifieds

The Caddytek Superlite is $87 shipped right now, but was a little cheaper when I bought it.

I picked it up because it was the cheapest folding push cart I could find that didn't have a ton of negative reviews. My two (small) complaints are:

  1. The umbrella mount works well in the rain, but not so much when there's wind. The body of the cart is sturdy enough for regular abuse, but with a giant umbrella acting like a sail it tends to twist.
  2. The drink holder is at a strange angle, which spills very full beverages. Solution: drink faster!
