Top Reddit comments about Gun Belts:

u/Josh_Logic · 6 pointsr/Glocks

Hello /r/glocks! I thought I'd share my rig along with some information about my setup in case anyone is interested in what I use.

I conceal carry a Glock 17, Gen 4 at 8-9 o'clock. I'm a big guy (6'6") with large hands and this gun fits me perfectly. It serves double-duty as a carry weapon and also as my primary home defense gun.

Here are the changes I've made to it:

  • Installed the large Glock backstrap.

  • Reversed the mag release since I'm a lefty.

  • Installed a Talon grip.

  • Installed a Pearce Grips frame insert under the grip.

  • Added Meprolight Tru-Dot night sights.

    Other equipment:

  • I use a Galco King Tuk IWB holster; I absolutely love this holster. It's got perfection retention and is very comfortable.

  • My carry belt is a Hank's Gunner Belt.

  • When the gun is not being carried, it lives inside a SpeedVault SV500 and has a Canwelum light attached to it. It's a great little light, and I also have one on my Mossberg 500.

  • For home defense I keep an extra 17 round and a 33 round Glock magazine nearby.

So there it is, my Glock 17! I love this firearm and definitely recommend it for anyone looking at a full-sized gun for concealed carry or home defense.

I'd suggest you re-asses your priorities.

You are just starting out in competition. That's great! You're going to have a lot of fun!

However, you'll be shooting against folks who've been playing this game for a while. You're not going to come in, sweep the field, and come home with a first place trophy, a new car, and a magnum of champagne.

If you aren't shooting to win, that means you need a different set of goals. Here's your 3 goals for the first few matches you shoot:

  1. Be safe.

  2. Enjoy the match.

  3. Don't get disqualified.

That's it. Until you get used to the range commands, safety procedures, engagement order, reload with retention, emergency reload, blah blah blah, those 3 things are more important than your score, or even your hits. You need to get good at the game before you can become competitive, and there's no substitute for experience.

What this means is your firearm choice doesn't matter. You can go out there with a $100 meme high-point and achieve your inaugural goals just as well as you could with a $6000 custom Ajax 2011. So take your G43 out.

Get a kydex holster and 2-4 mag holsters from Amazon today. It's $40 and you'll have them in plenty of time for this weekend. Feel free to go fancy and get better gear, but that $40 I linked will get you started.

Now that you have a line on the gear you need, no excuses, get out there this weekend. But the only IDPA match is 100 miles away? Drive. You haven't taken the safety class yet? That's your task this weekend. The only safety class is 100 miles away? You know what to do. No excuses.

For bonus points, you'll be shooting in the BUG (back-up gun) division. You'll be competing against others with low capacity compacts. You don't have to worry about how those custom 2011 shooters are doing, because they are in a different division. You might be pleasantly surprised at how you place in your division with your 43... but don't expect champagne or a trophy.

There you go, you've got your marching orders. Order your gear today, get signed up for a match and/or a safety class for this weekend, and then study. Here's your study material:

Not quite what you're looking for (used gear), but I've been doing just fine with a basic "all Triple K" rig of....

  • Two Cheyenne holsters ($73)

  • Slide on shot shell carrier ($30)

  • Slide on cartridge holder ($34)

  • Plain belt ($31)

    Total cost: $241.

Not cheap, but a lot less than the custom stuff and I've zero complaints about the quality.

My son runs similar equipment but saved a whopping $10 by going with a Hunter slide on cartridge carrier. Mostly I think he just didn't want a rig identical to mine.

And my loaner gear (for when I invite friends out)? Saves a bit more by skipping the cartridge holder, and going with a Vebstlife shot shell holder ($16) and a cheap Dickies work belt ($15) for a total cost of $175. Not nearly as nice, but hey, it's loaner gear!

Obviously, if you can pick up something used you can beat those prices but its equally obvious that it's going to be hard to predict what's out there. I'm also quite sure there are also cheaper rigs out there. But based on the homework I've done, it's going to be hard to beat the cost/quality combination of the Triple K stuff (although if someone knows of better I'm eager to be corrected!).

edit: While I've used Amazon links to show the gear, I ended up going directly through the Cowboy Shooting Store for the Triple K gear (same price as Amazon and I support small business when I can).

If you are feeling like you have to start carrying your defensive weapon sooner than later you should know why a "pocket sized" firearm is going to have next to no open carry options. It's because manufactures make stuff for guns that will sell and people don't tend to open carry small guns. You will find that the open carry holster options easily available will expand with the full and midd sized firearms and logically the larger the gun the smaller the concealed carry holster selection shrinks. It's unfortunately just supply and demand. Your best bet is to either buy a second firearm that has a ton of open carry options but also concealable options as well. Mid sized firearms tend to have a good balance between open carry and concealed carry options. You can also custom order something and wait a month or so for a holster company to manufacture something for you which would ideally be "exactly what you had in mind". Or go with one of the few options that sort of matches what you had in mind; I found you something like this:

Bought this in April. Wear it daily. Works great. Very comfortable. Wears well and looks great too. One of my best buys:

I got this one from amazon, it fits both my 320 full size 45 and 320c with tlr1hl, tlr7 and apl. 320c has a bit of play but it’s secure as lock is on ejection port. I hate to plug amazon but could probably be found elsewhere, also a model specific to 320c if that’s your only need. The paddle is great as is the holster, I think it comes with a belt loop attachment if you don’t want to use the paddle.

I was in the same exact boat as you a few weeks ago.... Wanting to get into USPSA but not break the bank.

I just picked up an Uncle Mike's competition belt and three off-brand mag holders from Amazon for about 50 bucks shipped (prime for the win). Haven't given it all a range test yet, but it all works great in my living room. Very happy w/ the quality.

I've got a hanks gunner unstitched

and a 1791 gunleather

Both of them are good to go. Quality, sturdy gunbelts, but not tactical looking. I wouldn't take them to work for shirt/suit and tie dress, but I wear them pretty much daily to work with khaki polo level business casual. Anything from jeans up to khakis/chinos they work great.

u/TinyPhonesAreGreat · 1 pointr/CCW

I just went through this, ended up with Blackpoint Tactical's leather wing. If you are ok with black or tan then you can buy one from Amazon or their website without any wait for a glock 19, first one I tried and seems perfectly comfortable and a very high ride for a belt holster

link of some guy on youtube wearing it skipped to the relevant bit

black

tan

figured I'd pimp out for a holster for once, really liking the full kydex stability with the leather wings wrapping around me

u/magalahi · 2 pointsr/CCW

I second this. Passes the dress clothes test, very stiff belt, works well with single-clip setups like the RCS Vanguard 2 and with double-clip type systems like the HSP INCOG.

The belt is also very grippy. It has a rubbery-like texture and helps keep things from sliding around. If you carry a lot of things on your belt like I do that's really helpful.

I’m new to game shooting and picked up a Blade Tech Signature with the Tek-Lok attachment point. I’ve only used it once, but liked it a lot.

I love Amazon for this stuff as well, but as for gun belts I've heard Hanks Kydex reinforced belt is great. I can't speak personally for it, but I've seen nothing but great reviews. As for holsters I'm more of a minimalist, to carry my G19 I use a simple Galco Stow-n-Go IWB holster. It's been great so far.

bunch of stuff really. random cables. random stuffs.

i suppose the most liquid asset is have is cash

i have a military belt is anyone is interesting ( forgive the randomness i love bargaining )

Spec Ops Riggers Belt

Also got some diff military gear and such.

u/_Aech_ · 1 pointr/CompetitionShooting

Wolf Tactical Rigger's Belt. Low cost at $20, I originally bought it to use for my work belt. The 2-ply nylon is nice and stiff for hanging a radio and other equipment off of it. Used to swap it out between work and shooting, but was so happy with it that I bought a second one to use exclusively for shooting. Velcro closure works great (or you can thread it through the more secure buckle). Just a cheaper way to get the same practicality of the more expensive belts.

u/Nish5115 · 2 pointsr/OnTheBlock

I have a radio holder, flashlights, pouches for gloves, OC holder, here's the old oc case that I upgraded from which worked great for three years, Handcuff Case, Key Clips and/or Carabiners work great too.

u/1_EYED_MONSTER · 1 pointr/CCW

There's a ton of great options but I really really like my Relentless Tactical.

I wear this one to work in a white collar environment every day. It carries my P320C beautifully. There's a steel core version if you're wearing something truly heavy as well.

I use alien gear cloak 3.0 iwh, very, very comfortable for my full size pistol i carry now. As far as a belt, just depends on what kind of function I attending, but for normal, everyday usage, I use a tactical web belt found here. For more dressier occasions, I use this one.
