  1. Depends on your experience. If you're new to teching, getting something good off the bat is my recommendation. If you want a nice middle ground, get an ICS. Good internals out of the box, and split gearbox makes it easy to work on.

  2. Flat-hop or r-hop for range and consistency. R-hop is better, but more difficult/time consuming, so might be worth getting it professionally done.

  3. A good mask or goggles that don't fog are a must. A Dye I4 or Dye I5 are best if you want a mask, and the Pyramex I-force are very nice for goggles. For a lower face mask, if you're using goggles, the One Tigris mask is very nice.

Mid cap vs hi cap is really just preference. Mid caps are more realistic, don't make any noise, and don't need to be wound. Hi caps are easier to load and hold a lot more ammo.

UTG makes some good optics. I have their Magnifier and short dot, and their red dot is pretty popular as well. If you want cheap, the Field Sport red dot is supposed to be pretty solid. Bushnell and Primary Arms are on the higher end of micro red dots, at least for airsoft. I have the Primary Arms and it's real nice.
u/FullPew · 2 pointsr/VAGuns

I'd recommend starting to carry around your house. You can start carrying unloaded if you'd prefer so you can get used to it. Then when you feel comfortable you can carry loaded. Getting the permit is easy, I just took some online course, but what's important is your safety and comfort level. From a safety standpoint, becoming comfortable with your firearm is essential.

As far as at home practice, I really enjoyed having this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004NKY23E/ You can get it in other calibers too. It's not perfect, but it helped me practice my aim, especially while drawing. Its not necessary and I know it's not really cheap, but I really enjoyed having it when I first got into firearms and carrying. It helped me a lot with my accuracy. You can even buy targets that will beep or fall down when the laser hits them, but I didn't feel like it was necessary. I just focused on an outlet or something else small across the room and feel like it was good enough.

If you want real live firing training, I can't really help you there because I've never done it. What I've seen and what seems to make the most sense is ask your ranges near you if they offer private lessons focused on CCW or shooting from a holstered position.

Best of luck and am always happy to hear of another CCW person here. Nothing makes me happier than seeing a story of a citizen carrying helped stop a deadly situation that could have been a lot more deadly!

Well the only similar sight that I know of is the Russian version, and I doubt that it's affordable or even exported to the US. The Russians had their older PSO-1 (4x24 unfortunately) and I think HK made a similar mount back in the day. The Aimpoint RDS is a popular red dot that you can then magnify with a...think its called a pineapple mount?

http://www.amazon.com/Mako-Magnifier-Reflex-Sights-Generation/dp/B001LZV55C you can hook this one up to a flipsight and pretend you're in call if duty.
Aimpoint makes the same thing but demands a much higher price I'm sure.

http://www.amazon.com/EoTech-G33-STS-BLK-G33-Magnifier-Switch/dp/B008CXKX7M you can buy the real thing and OH BOY ITS HALF OFF but of course operator gear comes with a huge price tag.

Trijicon makes a 3x version of the acog for 1k, lmao

http://www.amazon.com/Firefield-3x-Combat-Gun-Sight/dp/B006GOK5BI firefield makes a cost effective sight with only so-so reviews on amazon, google shopping brought up 179 reviews averaging at 4.5 stars. Has a small top rail for diddlies, bonus.

I found some other cost effective sights including a copy of the eotech flipsight but it appears that you get what you pay for in the realm of combat sights. You can buy a pretender that works well at the range or you can buy the milspec stuff. There are plenty of good consumer grade options outside of the military stuff but it's up to you. I personally haven't used any of these but of course its hard to go wrong with EO or Aimpoint. Will update this post with more links, at this point I'm just saving ya google time though.

Heres a Vortex 3x that holds a zero at 100 yards according to the top review, but I'd hope people are going to shoot farther out than that with a magnified scope...
http://www.amazon.com/Vortex-Spitfire-EBR-556B-Reticle-SPR-1303/dp/B00HYRGNLM

And heres the eotech flipup clone:
http://www.amazon.com/Sightmark-3x-Tactical-Magnifier-Slide-Side/dp/B004TDPVBW

If you head to primaryarms.com and click on scopes, there's tons of choices there for 3x or 1-4x all at pretty affordable prices.

Zeiss and Trijicon make rifle scopes that hit 3x but ofc those aren't combat sights and the eye relief is going to be small.

A forum posts mentions that you should keep the scope mount below 12 inches so that it doesn't interfere with charging handle operation, keep that in mind if you didn't know. From the same post, someone uses a primary arms 1-4x scope and is happy with it. Once again but a combat scope though.

That's everything that I could dig up, had nothing better to do so there ya go. Hope that helps ya.

Hey, we can always try to help you. Ar15.com might have a better forum but that's a semi-closed off website compared to reddit.

Just from the looks of it the Sig Micro Red dot you posted looks a lot like an Aimpoint T2. The Aimpoint is top of the line (think, best you can really purchase) as far as quality is concerned. I'll be the first to admit I don't hear much good or bad about Sig Optics so I won't act like I know how well they hold up.

An entry level red dot would be something like the Holosun for 170$ compared to the 340$ you might pay for the Sig Dot you mentoined earlier.

In my opinion, there's three tiers of optics you can buy. You can buy horrible Chi-Com shit from China that will cost you 35$ total. You can buy entry level optics like the Holosun, Vortex, or Sig (low price to high), or you can go all in and get a top shelf optic like an Aimpoint, Trijicon, or [debatably] an EoTech.

If you're worried about "overpaying" for low quality, but you're willing to spend 350-400, buying an Aimpoint PRO would be right in your realm. You'll receive extremely high quality glass for a decent price. They retain their value over the years, and if your husband knows anything about firearms, he'll be super happy with throwing it on a rifle. (edit: your post history says your husband is familiar with Special Operations Units, so I know he'll have heard of Aimpoint).

Buying him a Holosun or the Sig red dot would be a good alternative, but if you can justify it in your budget, get him something you know he'll be happy with. An Aimpoint is hard to beat. He can save up another 200$, re-sell the PRO and upgrade himself to a Aimpoint Micro if he's looking for that style of optic down the road.

I actually don't think I am going to go with any of these. More than likely I will go with the Gen 2 Magpul BUIS (Back Up Iron Sights). My gun nut buddy rocks them on more than one of his ARs and swears by them, and I figure I'm going to be keeping them around for a good long while so might as well drop some cash for a proven product.

Here's a link, they run about $70 right now. They have a similar, cheaper set available, but it is usually just used for airsoft.
https://www.amazon.com/Magpul-Industries-Generation-Backup-Sights/dp/B01GDL22O6/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1509597677&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=magpul+sights&psc=1

If $70 dollars is too steep, the Tacticon sights I listed are worth looking at. I've never handled them, but they seem like a reputable company and the positive reviews are just about identical to Magpul's. There was also talk of the UTG iron sights. I checked them out, but the reviews weren't as positive. Sucks, because they look badass.

In any case, my rifle won't be here for about another two weeks. I'll keep a look out for a good sale that may change my mind.

Incidentally, I handled a Smith and Wesson M&P Sport II .22lr a few months ago. I was deeply considering getting a little .22 AR for some cheap practice. It came with some sights that I absolutely loved. Very snappy, great construction, very nice. Turns out, they were Magpul Gen 2s.

u/TightBlueSweats · 1 pointr/czscorpion

I personally like to Co-witness with irons especially ones that are as minimal as the Scorpions are. They are great sights on their own and stay out of the way when using a red dot. That being said, I went from a Vortex Sparc II that I LOVED. For the price you might want to look into these as well!

Of the options you're talking about, I would definitely go with the Holosun. The Spitfire would be HUGE on a Scorpion and the Eotech is just a little too bulky for the platform. Both of those would negate having such a small gun imo. I'm going to swap over to an RMR because its small and light and gets the exact same job done without being in the way at all. I might even do a Vortex Viper since their warranty is great and its like 1/2 the price of even the cheapest RMR.

I've used Holosuns in the past and I've found them to be every bit as good as an Aimpoint for what I'm using it for. They're awesome and cheap as hell. Even these Primary Arms red dots are incredible for the price. If you don't care about push button operation and are fine with a little dial to adjust brightness, you can get the same thing for like $90!

u/eskimoexplosion · 3 pointsr/guns

If you're planning on spending more than $150 just save your money and save up for a premium optic like an Aimpoint, EOTech, Leupold, or Trijicon. If you're looking in the 100-150 range, Holosun makes a great solar/battery powered red dot that holds zero well and has a 30-50k hour battery life(when it's actually in battery mode). If you're looking for a more traditional optic, Bushnell and Nikon have good 1-4x optics. If you're looking for more magnification a Leupold
is within your reach. Vortex has strong offerings in both red dots and traditional optics if you're willing to spend a just bit more. If you're looking in the 50-150 range I'd look into a TRS-25 or Primary Arms for a red dot. For a traditional scope i'd stick with a fixed power optic like this Bushnell, you're going to be hard pressed to find a decent magnified optic with good glass in this price range, fixed power scopes are simpler in construction and offer at least better durability but i'd consider sticking to a non magnified optic under the $100 range. If you're trying to spend even less than $50 there is apparently a very well made $20 Fieldsport which is worth a search on youtube. I wouldn't consider anything magnified under $50 but this is a good range for a cool carry handle with elevation adjustment and retro look. Shooting irons can be more fun than using optics sometimes.

u/Thetomas · 2 pointsr/GasBlowBack

These are for real steel guns, and feel really solid, I have no doubt they'll work on GBBRs, but I have an aeg, so I can't base that on personal experience.

I have a Sightmark Ultra Shot QD and it's fantastic. Big glass, multiple reticle, really solid, bright(works in direct sunlight), qd works. I'm very happy with it.

They also make a non-digital non-qd version that's even cheaper, but I really like the QD.

Good luck

This is a boxing and review of this $35 weapons light I got off Amazon. It was highly rated there and I wanted to share an unboxing and initial impressions. Below is a copy/paste of the Imgur comments from top-down. I have no affiliation with the seller; here is the link. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0036S5W42/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Before I start, I'll give it 4 out of 5 stars because the on/off switch is too easily tripped and protrudes a fair bit. I understand this simple mechanism is probably to keep costs down which is appreciated. For a nightstand pistol-light, it will serve it's purpose well. I have no doubt as of the moment it wouldn't perform. For a concealed carry light, I'd recommend a hard cover to prevent the on switch from being engaged by mistake. For the price-point, it exceeds expectations. I probably will buy another for my Sig if this holds up well, which I expect it will. Rated at 500 lumens for 40 minutes of on time.

Per/u/jakesgunreviews, "Tell them to buy a TLR-1 when it goes on sale for $70.00."

Below is the transcript from the imgur descriptions.

S&W SD9 cleared and the HL-P10S model weapons light.

Box lid snapped out nicely. Flashlight comes in cutout with chinese CR123A Lithium battery, installation leaflet, Silica gel, and plea for reviews on Amazon. It feels very light. Must be aluminum.

Turned on and off by a simple drifting bar with finger tabs. Moves pretty freely with slight resistance. I can see this being a potential snag if drawing from concealed carry.

Fuck this is bright. I'm directly under my kitchen light on a cloudy day and this is triggering a migraine.

Retention lever gives significantly more resistance than the on switch. Pretty difficult to hold down with index finger.

Maybe an inch further than my barrel. Weight is hardly noticeable. The on switch is hit by using your right index finger to push it to the left; perfect for right handed shooters. I did accidentally bump it on while sitting it on the table which is concerning. It isn't 100% solid to my rail; it has a slight wobble but not enough to give the impression that it would fall off.

Dark room test. You could read a book just from standing behind it. Strobe feature is disorienting AF and activated by turning it off then back on quickly.

Will be needing another holster to concealed carry with it. This Telor Tactical neoprene holster is stretching out hard and the trigger well is partially exposed.

Another note about it with this and other soft hosters, it can be bumped on while carrying very easily IWB. It is bright enough to notice from inside jeans and would make an awkward situation to brandish to turn it back off. It comes off easily enough so if I have to carry it'll be without until I find a kydex holster holster to protect it.

u/the4thaggie · 1 pointr/Glocks

That's the Mako one for like $30 on Amazon. I was testing it to see if an optic mount like that would be good for a reflex sight. It's not horrible (the concept of an optic that high off the bore axis), but i've realized that I want MOS milling.

I regret buying that cheap plastic thing. The light is great for the price (super bright and good strobe) and the reflex sight is ok once I got it dialed in. The Mako optic mount is crap. For starters, the part where the replacement trigger pin goes in extrudes into trigger guard area making it uncomfortable to shoot. The replacement front rail is too small and made my light fly off at the range (where it is normally snug on the Glock rail). Finally, it's a bear to get off.

I am getting alot of shit for the "mall ninja" accessories, but I'm glad I opted for cheaper to see what works well in my intended setup. Im glad I didn't spend $300 for an ALG (too high off bore axis), $300 for a brand-name light (this one is fucking bright), and glad the $20 reflex sight does pretty well. I can interchange it and my main red dot for my AR-15 in .22lr.

u/comradequiche · 2 pointsr/airsoft

I’ve really been liking mine. its a little hard to make fast and loose rules about optics. Oddly, $50 replicas of high end optics like Eotechs are garbage, while $16 replicas of generic red dots work like a charm.

So far, between real and replica the best bang for my buck was one of these cheap babies

As much as I love a tube style red dot, having the whole side area open (in my opinion) makes the whole sight feel less likes it blocking your line of sight, and feels more like you are peering out a window vs down a toilet paper roll. To each his own though!

When it comes to zoom optics, I’ve used 3-9x scopes and found both are a little over powered for airsoft unless you plan on just sniping. If you are using an M4 I’m assuming you will want to perform multiple functions, and I found bringing up the scope & quickly getting a good sight picture was not worth the effort. You simply won’t be shooting that far.

u/cameronabab · 4 pointsr/airsoft

Probably like 1.1x or 1.25x, straight 1x magnification looks weird. Vortex is one of the few real steel optics I'd say you should be fine taking to an airsoft field thanks to their absolutely amazing warranty of "no matter what happens, we'll replace it".

But if you want something suitable for airsoft that you won't worry about that's just a 1x red dot, I recommend the Field Sports one. It's on par with a $50 red dot I've got and it's way cheaper. Definitely the best bang for your buck red dot you can get for airsoft

u/VladStark · 2 pointsr/Firearms

For $200 I recommend this one:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01AWB3DIM/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

for $20 I recommend this:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00Y3SZEJC/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I own both, and so far both have been reliable, you'd think the $20 one would be a POS but it is surprisingly well built. And if you aim it at a mirror in dim light the red dot in the scope is almost impossible to see... meanwhile, the Votex one is very obvious, almost like you're pointing a laser towards someone, so for stealth the cheaper one is better. But for build quality and toughness I am guessing the Votex is superior.

u/Florida-Steve · 2 pointsr/ar15

Well so far I like the two I've bought. The Sightmark Ultra Shot Sight QD Digital Switch (SM14000) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004TDIDW6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1. Now I'll start out by saying I've never used an Eotech or Aimpoint and probably never will as I can never see dropping more on a red dot/holgraphic sight than I nearly spent on my rifle. If you can afford it and can justify it and want it go for it. But if your looking for a budget red dot, look at the Sightmark. I know I'm going to get a lot of hate for not picking Primary Arms, Holosun or similar, but they weren't what I was looking for.The two I've got, one's on an AR15 and ones on a AR-9. They were both bought for use in 2 and 3 gun competitions on an outdoor range in bright sunny Florida. I had tried several sights before, Truglo, Trs-25 and found them all to be too dim even on the brightest setting during the day time and the dots to be too small for rapid target acquisition especially in bright sunshine. The Sightmark even on a lower brightness setting was easily usable in the bright Florida sun. Using the 50 MOA circle around the 3MOA dot makes it easy to pick up and engage those close targets rapidly and still accurately on those out to 100-150 yards. I like it and so far even on the AR9 which has a lot more felt recoil it has held up with no problem. I may even buy a third one for another rifle. Hell I'm still not up to spending what even one Eotech would cost me.

Sightmark Ultra Shot Reflex Sight QD Digital Switch

Bottom line is I don't expect to go to war tomorrow, Don't want to spend what a monthly car payment would be on a sight and don't expect to be dropping my rifle from 10 feet onto hard concrete. It has worked without problems for me so far, it's cheap enough I could but four for the price of one Eotech and it does what I need it to do.

u/storelogix · 7 pointsr/300BLK

Obviously the Hellbreaker lower is the centerpiece of this build, but there a few other goodies on here too.

The main sight is an Armasight 4x Nightvision Scope.

The backup sight is a cheap but relatively solid Field Sport Red/Green Dot Holds zero really well after repeated firing, best bang for the buck right now in cheap, sturdy little red dots. It's mounted on a 45 degree angle rail section.

Streamlight SuperTac IR spotlight on the right side.

CMG 4.5lb flat trigger, smooth as ice.

KNS Precision locking trigger/hammer pins in FDE

Obviously a SigTac SB15 pistol brace.

AAC three prong flash hider/suppressor quick disconnect

BCM Gunfighter Charging handle

Weighs about 45lbs it seems like, but once both of my stamps get back I feel this will be an excellent stealth-mode hog rifle.

u/ktmrider119z · 7 pointsr/airsoft

No.

But if you want one that just works, the red only Fieldsport on Amazon is great at $20.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00Y3SZEJC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_-gUdBbBPA0SJ9

Next step up but still budget would be a Bushnell TRS-25. Less glass tint, and all around better quality for $50.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00200E0HM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_4hUdBbX0PJ5FY

Youll want this riser with either one.

If you eventually want a quality real steel Optic, look for the Vortex Strikefire, Vortex Crossfire red dot, Vortex SPARC AR, or the Sig Romeo 5. All can be had for about 120 if you shop around. Vortex optics have fantastic warranties.

If you want some magnification, i eecommend the monstrum 3x prism sight. Let it be known though, that the sight adjustments work in reverse.

Red dot then add a 3x flip up magnifier if you find yourself actually shooting at 300 yards often.

Holosun red dot

Well reviewed "budget" red dot. 50,000 (!!!) hour battery life so you can leave the red dot on all the time and only change the battery every couple years, great for HD.

For a magnifier, the vortex are reputed to be good, larue makes an excellent one, just get whatever you like

At 500, you're looking at good selection of quality optics.

The aimpoint pro is like $450 and it's typical aimpoint quality.

https://www.opticsplanet.com/aimpoint-pro-patrol-rifle-optic-red-dot-riflescope-30mm.html

If you're looking to go cheaper anything that vortex makes as a dot is around $150-$250 and will serve you well with a lifetime warranty.

I just got a Sig Sauer Romeo 5 a month ago and its pretty solid. I can first hand recommend these optics.

https://www.amazon.com/Sig-Sauer-SOR52001-Romeo5-Compact/dp/B01C95I8N4

u/NGVYT · 1 pointr/preppers

I don't think a FAL is a good gun for much of anything. If you intend on making it your primary though do yourself the favor and run a few hundred rounds through it at the range. Just see how well it holds up and get used to the sights on it by standard just in case.

If all goes well with the shooting test then Id go for the upgrades. I would go with the new stock and probably get a nice RDS on it like the dagger defense DDHB or for longer ranges something like a Trijicon ACOG TA01, however its on the more expensive side of things... For a stock, when I looked its kinda slim pickings but I didn't look too hard but I liked this one a good bit.

u/StargateGuy · 2 pointsr/Firearms

> Currently have some on my ar, they're good, but are the $100 a pair good?

Magpul offers models in the 60-70 range, which seem like pretty middle of the road. Price-wise. At least, thats what I observed shopping for flip sights.

Since you're new to airsoft I suggest getting a cheaper red dot at first. This red dot is pretty good, only 20 bucks and has great reviews. For the height you should get a rail riser, like this.

Edit: also any normal red dot should fit on your rail system

I have the Holosun HS403a on my 300blk "pistol". Love it. Great optic.

Seriously, it's a buyers market right now... Everything gun related is getting discounted. I'm no psychic, but I'd say it's likely to continue at least until we get up closer to the 2018 elections.

Acog's are great, but if you want to save a few bucks, I have a couple of these Sig Sauer Romeo5 sights and I really like them. Very solid... Motion activated, 40k hr battery, weather proof, $150'ish...

I've been really happy with the Vortex Venom that I have on mine. It's a great sight that makes the pistol very 'point and shoot'able.

I figured that the Venom would be good enough since it costs like half of what a Trijicon RMR would and it has a no questions asked lifetime warranty so if you happen to drop your gun right on the sight or something crazy like that they'll just replace it for you. And I also like that the sight window is wider than on an RMR with a thinner bezel which makes the field of view better.

u/Vayate · 3 pointsr/Columbus

As others have said, definitely rent guns at the range. Black Wing has a very large selection both in the rental cabinet and on the sales floor. Vance is great too. I don't shop at LEPD because they're expensive and selection isn't that great, but I use their range sometimes.

For practice, start with a .22 target pistol, like the Browning Buckmark or Ruger Mark III. They're cheap to buy, cheap to shoot, very accurate and are excellent for warming up before moving on to the bigger calibers. Training on .22 will also help you focus on sight alignment while minimizing the chances of developing a flinch.

The other reason to buy a target pistol is that many ranges won't let you rent a gun if you're alone and don't have your own gun. That's to prevent people from renting guns and committing suicide on the range. If you want to try out guns for home defense and you can't bring a friend to the range, having a target pistol will get you into the shooting booth.

EDIT: Also get a laser trainer. For the price of a range trip or two, you can practice inside your home as much as you want. I find it really helps me focus on sight alignment and trigger control. Dry fire practice is one of the most important things you can do to improve your accuracy, and having a laser has made me a much better shot in a very short time.

u/Publix_Deli · 10 pointsr/gundeals

I'm the same way. As a fellow budget optic enthusiast, I feel compelled to tell you that the Field Sport micro red dot is, by far, the best budget optic I've ever used. The dot is crisp and bright, with no noticeable parallax past 25 yards. There are youtube videos of people beating the shit out of them, submerging them in water, freezing them, and putting them in a toaster oven with melted cheese, all without failure or POI shift. It's honestly so good I can't justify spending the money on any more expensive red dots except for a real Aimpoint T1, and only because of the T1's incredible battery life.

u/GiftedMilk · 2 pointsr/EscapefromTarkov

Mine is a cheap amazon knock off, and I was originally going to avoid those, but a gun nut channel on youtube gave it glowing reviews so I dropped the few bucks on it.

I absolutely love it, both the sight and mount I got hold zero quite effectively, and it comes with all you need like variable brightness and zero controls.

It likely won't hold up to rigorous torture tests, but for what I use it for, WELL worth the money.

I want a TLR light it's just the price right now. I have a small LED I keep with my 19 but I want a light on it. Just after the 19, sights, safe, rounds, CWP costs, etc I am about $1k into it.

I would like to find a cool kith that wasn't $200-$300 and decent as a temporary until I invest $200-300 into a TLR with light and laser.

Considering the Amazon reviews I might get this : Hilight 300 Lumen Pistol LED Strobe Flashlight with Weaver Quick Release https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0036S5W42/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_eAZfub0FMDS9S

u/TheWokeKneeGrow · -2 pointsr/ar15

I wouldn't say MBUS are very durable. They break pretty easy and just yesterday I noticed a pin on a pair of mine walking out without even taking them shooting in a long time. IMO any quality red dot will be less likely to break than MBUS sights which makes them not make much sense as back up sights. I just bought this scope for my new 10/22. Nothing too fancy but the price was right and my friend bought the same one and loved it. For $180 gun I didn't see myself spending more than that on optics but you can.... easy.

u/TheRealSumRndmGuy · 1 pointr/guns

If you're wanting a good RDS for the money, the Vortex SPARC or Crossfire are always good and have a really good resale value. Those will run you about $250 though.

For the most part you get what you pay for, but I see a lot of people using a Sig Sauer Romeo5. It's an excellent RDS for the price (about $130).

The Romeo5 is on sale at Amazon right now: https://www.amazon.com/Sig-Sauer-SOR52001-Romeo5-Compact/dp/B01C95I8N4/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?keywords=Sig+Sauer+SOR52001+Romeo5+1x20mm+Compact+2+Moa+Red+Dot+Sight%2C+Black&qid=1559135124&s=gateway&sr=8-1

I've been shooting pistols for a few years now and am just now getting the rifle bug. Over Christmas it just hit me... I don't have a 10/22! I wasn't having any of that; and wanting to have a little fun with it, I came up with this.

Here's what it is:

Ruger 10/22 "All Weather" Carbine

Archangel 556 Rifle Stock

UTG Tactical OP Bipod

AccuShot Scope Rings

BARSKA 3-9x32 Plinker-22 Riflescope

I got to sight it in this morning! Nice and accurate as you should expect from a 10/22. Ran subsonic ammo through it and it was nice a quite. I really like the Barska scope too... it did great on its lowest 3X setting. When I have more time I'll see how it does at long range.

For cheapness you can get a Fieldsport Micro Dot from amazon for $20 and a UTG Riser Mount. I do not recommend using these sights without a riser.

If you want to spend some actual cash on a really good optic I recommend either a primary arms T1 and riser or a [Holosun] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00NC1G0KI/ref=dp_cerb_2). Dutch uses a Primary Arms but IMO the holosun is probably the best budget real steel optic on the market.

One of the best ways to feel more comfortable with your carry piece is to train and to wear it.

Wear it around at home. You'll get used to the feeling and eventually you won't notice it - you'll just notice it when it's not there.

Also train. Train train train. Shoot at the range at least once a month. Get a training round (they have other calibers) and train at home. You can use the training round to work on your draw from conceal, trigger control, and all around accuracy. You'll feel a lot more comfortable with your carry piece when you know you can quickly draw your sidearm without fumbling for it.

As for carry locations, I'm a guy - and other people have already spoken on that topic. So I'd listen to them, not me on that.

OK so it came in on Thursday but I just had a chance to try it out today.

I'd say it's definitely worth the money, but it isn't one of those things where you're getting a $250+ gun for $120.

The FPS is obviously really high on this thing. With just a little hop up added it shoots Elite Force bio .25s a really long way with no drop. However, accuracy is not fantastic. I set up a target at 35' and I could get 4" groupings consistently, but not 2" groupings. For comparison I can get 2" groups with my KWA SR7 and my Classic Army EC1 nearly every time at that range. Of course, this is straight out of the box, so it may improve over time. As it is it's not terrible, just not insanely great.

For what it's worth, this is the loudest Airsoft gun I have ever used. You can't hear any motor whine or spring noise, just a loud BAM for every shot.

Build quality is excellent. It's really hefty, nothing rattles, and it just feels incredibly solid. The rail on top is metal, and it holds optics with no wobble. I got a little $25 Amazon red-dot for it and it works fine.

Magazine capacity is small, the midcap it comes with and the extra one I got on Evike both hold 68 rounds (on paper, I think in reality you get ~50 rounds before it becomes too difficult for a speedloader to insert BBs).

I think the downfall with this thing is that it's not a super accurate gun for field play, but its FPS is much too high for CQB. I think with a spring replacement to take it down to 350fps it would be a fantastic CQB gun.

Wore that mask for 2 games before relegating it to loaner status. OneTigris-style masks are more way more compatible with goggles and allow a cheekweld. Those shooting glasses look like they would be better than goggles, but if they're anything like the pair I used they'll fog like crazy. Your eye-pro not being the best place to save money, I reccommend something ANSI Z87-rated with good ventilation slots around the edges. ESS goggles are a traditional standby for this. I'd reccomend this Aimpoint T1 clone instead of the one you show, as it's more durable, lower profile, can co-witness with M4 iron sights with the right mount, and is less likely to catch BBs. What are you going to carry your magazines in?

u/wiccabilly · 3 pointsr/Firearms

I split the difference and bought complete upper and lower for my first "build." Spike's Tactical complete lower and BCM KMR Alpha 15 complete upper. Added the BCM bolt carrier group, a sexy, red Strike Industries charging handle, and MBUS sights and viola! My first AR. I added an Aimpoint PRO and a Strike Industries sexy red foregrip a few days later. Then a J-comp... Oh, and a few PMAGs... They say an artist never really finishes a work, only abandons it...

But seriously, buy a completed upper and lower and you'll have a very easy time your first time. The upper and lower attach with literally 2 pins. Insanely easy. Once you've put one together that way and held it in your hand and got a feel for it, then you'll start thinking about how you want to change the trigger or what kind of stock you'd like better and then those tasks won't seem as intimidating.

Please note: Those links above are the result of quick Google searches to show the products I'm referring to. They are NOT good prices at least compared to what I spent. I just wanted to make it easier to see what I was referring to but didn't want to go bargain hunting all over again.

u/icantcontrolmyself · 49 pointsr/gundeals

Build a complete AR-15 using the stripped lower linked in the OP for $35 plus the following parts:

  • Delta Team Tactical Rifle Build Kit (minus BCG, mag, and sights) - $235 shipped (free domestic shipping on orders over $120)

  • BCA 5.56 BCG from Primary Arms - $70

  • Magpul M3 30-rd PMAG from Primary Arms - $10

  • Shipping on the lower, BCG, and mag from PA - $7.50

  • Budget Amazon Red Dot that doesn't seem too shabby - $23 shipped with Prime

Total: $380.50 shipped for an AR15

This isn't gonna be a nice AR by any means and in fact I expect it to come out looking pretty butt ugly, but it is an AR, and I would expect it to go pew if you assemble it correctly. Good luck!

Edit: The barrel in this build kit looks like it is a fluted, heavy, stainless 416R Bear Creek Arsenal barrel that sells for $95 on their website. It is the "better" 416R steel, according to their specs, and it is .223 Wylde with a 1:8" twist, so that combined with the free-floated handguard and you might actually be able to expect pretty decent groups.

    Final Edit - 5/9/17 10:30 AM EDT

Lower receiver marked back up to $45 making this a $390.50 complete AR now. Deal marked NSFW as it no longer reflects the title price.

If you prefer black Amazon has the Sig Sauer Romeo 5 for $99.99. Pick Amazon.com as the seller (shows as temporarily out of stock but you can order it). If you are eligible for the Amex points offer you can save 20% and get it for $80.

Also: "Includes a M1913 Picatinny low mount riser and a co-witness 1.41in riser mount "

EDIT: Okay, not 15 minutes after I posted it Amazon jumped the price to $125. $100 after the points discount, so not quite as exciting. All I can say is keep an eye on it if you are interested. I've seen it fluctuate a few times before I posted.

Oh cool, I didn't know you could do that. Would this adapter be another good alternative to that? I read reviews on other cheap adapters and they say that the screws inside of them can break, making them wobbly.

Also, would this be a good optic for it? Thanks!

u/j-mt · 2 pointsr/ar15

Are you going to intentionally use this rifle to defend yourself? If so, you're looking at about $150 minimum for a RDS (IMO). My personal recommendation is the Vortex Sparc AR or Sparc II. Others like the Holosuns, but I don't have experience with them.

That said, if the worst thing that happens is a range trip cut short, you can grab a Fieldsport RDS and UTG riser from Amazon for about $30.

https://www.amazon.com/Field-Sport-Green-Micro-Sight/dp/B00D4AYBR6/ref=sr_1_6?s=sports-and-fitness&ie=UTF8&qid=1494339103&sr=1-6&keywords=Red+dot

The Fieldsport is the best cheap plinker optic I've used (I bought one to see what the fuss was about). I still wouldn't trust my life to it, but I wouldn't hesitate to throw it on a budget rifle.

To boot, if you'll catch a set of Magpul MBUS on sale for about $60, you can have a surprisingly reasonable setup for around $100. And if the dot ever failed, you'd have a quality set of backup sights to use.

Add: I confused your OP with another and just saw you looking for a scope. My thoughts still stand on the RDS.

The Bushnell Drop Zone gets a fair amount of love. But keep in mind, you'll be spending at least another $30 (preferably more like $60+) on a scope mount.

If you prefer crosshairs to red dots and aren't looking for magnification, Vortex makes a 1x scope meant for muzzleloaders. I'm running one on my 7.62x39 AR and really like it. To boot, you can find them for around $60 and they're every bit as quality as their other Crossfire II optics. You'll still need a mount, though. Aero has their ultralight offsets on sale for around $60. That's the way I'd go for any scope you end up with. The Vortex offset mount I picked up is friggin' heavy.

So far I like it a lot. My dad has a Trijicon RMR 2. They look the same to me and it's less than half the cost. He put his on a double barrel .470 nitro express for hunting purposes though.

u/psychosoldier63 · 2 pointsr/airsoft

Already got the lexan yesterday, and went ahead and cut out a piece the shape of my RDS lens. It fits very snugly.

Since you know what you're talking about, I have a few questions on the lexan covering. I had to shave the lexan down by hand with a metal file, so there are spots that are kind of lumpy and don't touch the sides of the frame like they should, but it still fits pretty tight in there. Should I be worried about it falling out? Also, should I superglue the sides of it to the frame?

For the next question, you'll have to see my RDS to understand. Here's the link.

As you can see, the right below the lens is a little metal base. Should I cut out a shape of the entire top part of the sight alongside a square base below it, and then glue the lower lexan base to the metal RDS base? The lexan wouldn't be touching the lens, so would this keep it even more protected? Also, if the lexan gets cracked, it seems this way would be much easier to remove and replace the lexan.

Buy the UTG Pro flip ups.

Front

Rear

Springfield uses them on their Saint rifles. I got myself a rear sight to play around with and keep as a backup part, and I'm pretty happy with it. Nice thing about it is that you can flip it down w/ the aperture in either the regular or close setting which is something my Troy flip ups can't do.

I gambled on cheaper no-name brand pieces and definitely didn't get my money's worth out of them. The Ozark, Dagger, and Chaos sights all appear to be the same and likely all come from the same factory in China. They look like decent options, but I'd take the UTG over them if only for the looks. UTG definitely has shit products out there, but I think the new flip up sights can hang out with their other PRO stuff like handguards as not shit-tier.

I use a ssar-22 AR spec conversion. I am overall happy with it, though I think it adds a bit of weight.

I have been using this super cheap reflex sight for awhile now. I sighted it in once and have fired several hundred rounds with it staying true. If that cheapee can stay true, I guessing anything can stand a chance against a .22

u/Gildan_Bladeborn · 3 pointsr/Nerf

Where are you using it and what are you aiming it at? If the answer is "at home" and "inanimate objects", the best way to attach a laser aim point is to convert one of the existing Rival rails on your Zeus to picatinny, and acquire a cheap picatinny-mounted laser.

If the answer was "people" though, you don't want a laser at all, you want some manner of reflex sight (which will generally also require some sort of picatinny rail adapter to mount to Rival rails) - unlike lasers, which interact poorly with those orbs we have in our skulls that let us see stuff, the aim point generated by a reflex sight is projected onto a lens that only makes it look like it's being superimposed onto whatever it is that you're aiming it at.

Consider upgrading to the primary arms advanced red dot or the Romeo5. Going from ~500-1000 hours of battery life to about 20-30x that is nice, basically means you can leave it on.

I got the Amega mini scout mount and absolutely love it. Works with irons and doesn't look bad either. I've been wanting to get a holosun ever since I shot the one my friend has. Between the auto-on feature and the solar cell, he hasn't needed to change the batteries. I just love the idea of a red dot you don't need to think about.

I personally wouldn't put a scope on it, but if you do, consider a scout mount since the brass this thing chucks out could scratch your scope (from what I hear). Just test a few rounds with a receiver-mounted scope, and if you notice a color or lines left on the scope after a few rounds consider other options.

A PSA/Spikes Tactical/Aero Precision/any milspec stripped lower receiver. Unfortunately, due to the elections there's a shortage of lower receivers on the market so they are out of stock pretty much everywhere.

This rear sight

https://www.amazon.com/MaTech-Mil-Spec-Back-up-Iron-Sight/dp/B002E6SXN4

Or you could go with this combo.

http://www.surplusammo.com/saa-sa-15-grim-reaper-ar15-complete-lower-with-collapsing-stock/

http://palmettostatearmory.com/ptac-16-m4-1-7-upper-with-bolt-carrier-group-and-charging-handle.html

The most important thing about building a basic AR-15 is to make sure all of its parts are at least milspec and the rifle has a 5.56 chamber. That will usually solve any reliability problems. Once you start to get better at shooting, you can start upgrading your rifle with better triggers(geissele), matching upper/lower sets, BCM/NOVESKE/LWRC/VLTOR part/complete rifles.

Once you master shooting with iron sights, you can start using red dot/scopes.

Other than the name brand I do not see why these should cost more than $60.

I would recommend UTG's spring loaded set for $60

I can personally vouch for these, accurate right out of the box, zero issues, made of the same grade of aluminum.

I've also purchased their non spring loaded 45 degree offset iron sights which go for $60 combined

The best part about these is that the front sight's elevation adjustments are tool-less.

Buy this for optics - $20 red dot on Amazon perform like $300 red dots. Great for low budget purchases/builds.

This is for the compact version.

Alternatively, OpticsPlanet

Edit: I just realized that the seller that I linked on Amazon is OpticsPlanet!

Edit2: With Free Prime 1-Day shipping, I guess this could be the better deal for me if I wanna pay another ~$5 over the lowest shipping option at PA. Man, did I underestimate shipping and taxes.

I use this on my CM it's $26 right now with free shipping. Its metal, red and green, four different modes, five brightness levels, and in six months I have yet to change the battery. Here It is in black for $22.

I have that site as well. It's on my 10/22 and is wonderful

u/CoastalSailing · 15 pointsr/guns

Definitely, on my phone but when I get home I will.

edit - Here are the links to what I bought. I picked the kit and the lower up while it was on sale, so I got it for cheaper.

u/2_mch_tme_on_reddit · 2 pointsr/airsoft

This is a pretty good sight. Lots of different pictures and the reticle brightness is nicely variable.

However, holy hell don't buy it from Evike. This same optic is rebranded a hundred times over- if it looks identical, it probably is. There's probably like one factory in China making these things, and different companies stamp their name on it. Here it is on Amazon for $22

Edit: I took another look at the sight that /u/Adventurepoop linked to, and I was wrong- that one does appear to be different. It offers a different array of sight pictures, and has fewer options for sight brightness. Otherwise I reckon it's the same thing. Up to you if the extra money is worth it for the different reticles. I wouldn't pay more than $23 though- mine got shot out the first time I played with it. I'd hate to have lost twice the money.

u/KinkyWhiteBread · 2 pointsr/ar15

You can get a Vortex Micro Dot on amazon for like $130, good enough to run and you'll have money left over for a trigger

u/GelgoogGuy · 3 pointsr/guns

If you want to the Eotech look get the Holosun 510C. I adore mine and it's very solid. If you can wait, keep an eye on /r/gundeals as it goes on sale for ~$260 semi-frequently.

u/Naucoaran · 2 pointsr/gundeals

If you really want to be running a copy, then you'll want to get a 14.5" barrel.

Here's the build I would run to copy the above, feel free to make edits to your liking:

u/ParaBrutus · 2 pointsr/guns

Holosun micro red dots are very lightweight and have battery lives approaching aim points. Almost all are sub-$200 and some models have solar panels that will work in daylight even without a battery. My brother has been using one on an AR for two or three years with no issues.

Aimpoint PRO's go on sale for around $400 or less. lapolicegear.com had them for $360 shipped a few weeks ago. The Aimpoint is actually cheaper than the Stirke Eagle and the cantilever mount, so it seems like a very fair trade to me.

u/tennmyc21 · 2 pointsr/Hunting

Not sure how you feel about optics/what company you typically use. I'm a pretty big Vortex and Leupold guy on my big game rifles. However, I felt weird spending too much on a scope for a .22.

I ended up going with this one. Had it 4 seasons now and have brought it into some really rugged country hunting Dusky Grouse. I've dropped it, gotten it wet, basically just abused it as much as possible and it's held up. Awesome value for $50.

u/ISaidNoDecaf · 7 pointsr/gundeals

I'm also genuinely curious about the differences between the pricier backup sights (Magpul, Troy Industires, Diamondhead, etc.) and the lower-priced options available on Amazon, since the latter cost around half as much as former. I'll be running a Vortex StrikeFire II on my AR, and I currently have the UTG Low Profile Flip-Up Front and Rear sights (which were gifted to me, and seem to have decent reviews). I'd imagine there's a difference in fit and finish/build quality between the two price points, but are budget backup sights an acceptable option if they're actually just being used as backups?

u/MoGains · 1 pointr/Glocks

This is the one I purchased a month ago. Same idea as the one in your link. Very easy to take on and off, and no wiggle. Very bright too. I had my girlfriend point the light at me across our house and it was near blinding at night.

Ok, that’s a weird law. Wasn’t familiar. Here’s a good option for you that will be MD legal.

Not much more than the RRA you’re looking at and it comes with the Colt name and QA. Use the extra $$ to pick up an Aimpoint PRO and drop in quad rail.

You should be able to ask them to swap in an MD legal magazine when you order.

u/salokin315 · 3 pointsr/CCW

I'm a striker guy but for dry fire, I can totally see the benefit of having a double action trigger. I like to use one of those laserlight trainer cartridges when I practice my dry-fire (almost every night). And it would be really nice if I could just pull the trigger again to get another shot to go off, rather than having to re-rack the slide to get the next "shot" off.

But other than that and the extremely low likely event of a soft-primer strike, then I prefer the consistency of strikers.

u/BanditMcDougal · 2 pointsr/ruger

The one on my daughters (red/left) is what I'd call an entry-level sight. It is a FieldSport red/green reflex. The one on her buddy's (blue/right) is a C-MORE Systems Railway (not sure which one, exactly). It is definitely not entry-level :-)

u/Ghost_Snare · 1 pointr/guns

I would look into this sight. Not one of the brands you hear often suggested but I have heard good things about it and that particular sight. Plus, it's a bit more on the affordable side of sights if you aren't looking to drop loads of cash on something you won't like or won't need.

I say invest in these:

https://www.amazon.com/Laserlyte-Laser-Trainer-9-mm-Cartridge/dp/B004NKY23E

They helped my shooting more than anything. They even have targets that make it like a game. When I started, live ammo was actually reinforcing some bad habits. I began anticipating and jerking the trigger. I would leave the range more frustrated than when I started, and it felt like a waste of money. Laserlyte cartridges helped me work on the fundamentals like drawing, presenting, sight alignment, and trigger pull. The best part was I could practice every day in the house. They made me a better shooter in days.

I suck with my pistols and I get that shooting is not budget friendly, but 100 rounds/mo per gun is not very much at all. That would be a pretty light range day for me, and I try to go at least 3x a month. I'm assuming you don't have many pistols.
