I've only been CG for about 4 months, possibly less, and I've definitely had my ups and downs, but my advice to anyone who is struggling is to just keep trying new things! I've been through way too many brands of conditioners and gel's, and just this morning I realized that the ever-so-loved squish to condish method everyone raves about on here just isn't for me! Just because someone else's holy grail doesn't work for you doesn't mean you're hopeless, it just means that you need to put in a bit of effort to find your own. With that said, here is my routine!

•First I shampooed my scalp with L'Oreal Paris' EverSleek Intense Smoothing Shampoo because I have yet to find a good cleanser/co-wash that makes my hair feel clean without drying it out.

•Secondly I de-tangled and conditioned with TRESemmé Naturals Nourishing Moisture Conditioner

Here's where this video comes in to play.

•First off I used a quarter sized amount of As I Am's Leave in Conditioner all over my hair.

•I then used a quarter sized amount of Una's Designing Oil Non Oil all over the hair because it makes it really silky and shiny without making it look/feel greasy.

•I put my hair into 3 sections; one big one clipped on the top of my head and then two smaller ones on the bottom on each side. I clipped one of the smaller sections up, split the other section so I had about a 1 inch chunk of it, and clipped the rest up and out of the way. (the video will help you understand this better since I'm not the best at explaining, haha)

•I brushed out this mini-section with my Denman Brush to make sure there was zero tangles and the hair was smooth all the way up to the root.

•Then I used a dime sized amount of Yes to Carrots Pampering Conditioner. This stuff has the most amazing slip in the world so a little bit goes a long way!

•After that was all smoothed in I used a nickel sized amount of Eco Styler Olive Oil Gel and thoroughly raked that through. I think that I could have used less gel because when my hair was drying I definitely had to scrunch out A LOT of crunch, haha!

•Watch the video to see how I shook the hair. (sorry if me saying to refer to the video is getting really repetitive!)

•I did this to the entirety of my hair, flipped it up side down and lightly shook it to make sure my roots were lifted, and then gently flipped it back to its rightful place.

•I used my space heater to dry it, but you could use your diffuser on low or air dry it! Whatever you fancy most. I'm just impatient and wanted to be done asap.

Your hair is going to feel like a gigantic crunch-ball if you apt for using the gel (I say this because you could definitely skip the gel part, I might try doing that next and see what happens), so you'll need to scrunch the crunch out as it's drying but I promise you that as long as you're gentle this won't give you any frizz!

Lastly just split some of the curls, flip your hair around and upside down, and fluff up the roots as much as you want to give it more volume!

You can tweak this however you want really, this is just how I did it my first time and I'm already in love! Thanks for reading, and I hope I could help at least one person out there!

I feel like I’m finally getting somewhere with my hair and I have learned SO much on this sub so I felt like I owed it to post here to maybe help any wavy peeps out there

My whole life my hair has looked like a giant unruly frizz ball so I am amazed I have finally somewhat cracked the hair code.

My current problem was that I have 2 babies so I needed a hair routine that was insanely low maintenance/easy/fast (as low maintenance as CG can be...). I also needed to be able to shower after my kiddos are asleep and have zero time in the morning - dropping off kids at school and need to not look crazy with wet hair ha also am way too lazy to diffuse or do crazy stuff like the bowl method and all that.

Products:

Devacurl Low Poo (use it every few days)

Devacurl One Conditioner (I prefer this because it’s really good for detangling, my hair seems to also really like it)

Kinky Curly Knot Today - as a leave in conditioner

Kinky Curly Curling Custard - gel

This for shower brushing

This for Plopping

Pillowcase

Medusa Clipping

So I get in the shower and either cowash with deva conditioner or shampoo with deva low poo (depending on how I’m feeling). I use the linked brush to help scrub my scalp, it works good and my scalp seems less itchy now.

Then I’ll wash that out and throw some more deva conditioner on and detangle and brush through with the linked brush. That brush is the bomb highly recommend!

Then flip my hair over and brush it forward over my head to make sure all my hair is hanging. Then I use probably 3 TBS of kinky curly knot today as a leave in conditioner (love this stuff) - I use praying hands and work that all in. I get great clumps with knot today which is why I prefer it to devacurl products). If my clumps are looking good I turn off the water, if they look bad I add a bit more water to clump it up.

Then lastly I add a ton - like handful of Kinky curling custard. Love this gel - it forms a great gel cast. I use praying hands as well to put the gel in. Then while still upside down I will scrunch it a bunch (gently squishing, not too aggressively I’ve learned).

After that come out of the shower and plop in the linked head wrap. I think one of these plop wraps are so worth it, I can’t for the life on me figure out how to wrap it in a T-shirt and make it stay. I keep plopping while I get my kids ready for bed, so prob for an hr or two. After my kids are finally asleep which seems to take forever I take off the plop thing and let my hair really harden up and gel cast while I brush my teeth and stuff. Once there is a gel cast has formed I gently clip my hair up using the Medusa clip method. Medusa clip method was a hugeeee game changer for me - go YouTube that ASAP!!

Sleep on that and in the morning wake up and gently take out the clips. Shake it out, maybe spritz any dry area with water in a spray bottle and scrunch out the crunch.

It's hard to recommend one without knowing anything about the length, texture, thickness, etc of your hair.

As a quick side note, you've got a fairly large budget for one so even if you go outside of Amazon and pay for shipping you could still come in well under your price range.

From my small amount of research the two brands that seem to get mentioned the most are the top of the line, very expensive Mason Pearson brand that will last years and Denman brushes that are very affordable and good quality. I have not used either of these brands so can't comment. A lot of people just buy ones at their local grocery or pharmacy store and say they work fine too.

I ended up buying this one. This came in a clear bag and no other packaging like one might expect so I was a little leery. This company also has brushes that are nylon or a boar / nylon combo and I was worried they may have sent me the wrong one. Also, there was a review from a person claiming their brush was not 100% boar. I pulled out three different types of bristles from the brush and did the "light it on fire" test. Basically if it burns (as opposed to melting) it's real and not synthetic. All 3 bristles burned and I also tested bristles from a different nylon brush I own and those melted.

The brush handle is plastic. I was expecting better quality for the price I paid when it came to this. It's made fine but I worry how long it will hold up in the long run.

The bristles are spaced widely enough apart that I can actually brush my hair just fine and it pulls through nicely. The bristles are hard and sharp though. You have to be careful not to apply too much pressure or brush for too long because your scalp will feel it and can become a bit sore.

This brush would be good for shoulder length hair or longer that is about medium thickness or more. One of the hassles of BBB is that you have to section your hair to brush it which takes time. I don't need to do that with this one as it all goes right through. If you have heavy thick hair you'll still need to section but not as much as some other brushes out there. If you have short or fine, thin hair I would pass on this brush as it would be overkill and overpriced for what you need.

After I brush, my hair looks like it's gelled down to my head with oil. Just run your fingers through your hair a few times to break it up and then it looks great. Overall I'm happy with the brush. When it needs to be replaced I'm probably going to try the cheaper Denman to see how it compares.

I also bought a brush to clean my brush. I know this sounds stupid but glad I did as it makes cleaning it much easier. I went with this one but there are cheaper ones out there and other types too.

I also picked up a $5 Conair brand BBB from my local store. The bristles are much softer and easier on my scalp. I can only brush a small section at a time though. Hair definitely has to be tangle free though as the bristles aren't going to help work those out at all. I use this one more if I'm just looking to do the top layer quickly.

my twin daughters have crazy curls too! it’s not easy to manage, but a couple of tips to help you out.... curly hair should never be brushed when it’s dry. i brush my girls’ hair while they’re in the bath, when it’s saturated in conditioner. this gets all the knots out fairly easily. use a good detangling comb. i recently also found an awesome brush that doesn’t seem to hurt them as much when i’m detangling. it has both boar bristles and nylon pins -like this one here anyways, after that, i brush or comb it out once more when they get out, spray on some leave-in conditioner, and whatever curl-shaping product i happen to have at the time, and then kinda scrunch their hair up with my hands. then i have them “do some hair flips” where they bend over forward and flip their hair down and then flip back up straight again, whipping their hair back up and down again a few times. (hope that makes sense) this part is always fun for them lol.

in the mornings, i use a spray bottle with a mixture of water and conditioner to wet their hair down a bit again, and use my fingers to kind of comb through it and get any frizziness out, and reshape the curls. and that’s it. if you dry her hair with a blow dryer, make sure you use a diffuser attachment. it’s specifically for drying curly hair. i haven’t ever used the dryer on my girls, but i’m planning on trying it soon to see if it helps any. we only wash hair every few days. the first day after a wash they always wear it down, and then each consecutive day they generally wear it up in a messy bun that looks fantastic with their curls and is super easy.

I use this brush. I rarely shampoo and I don't rinse any of the conditioner out. I try to put oil in my hair when I'm not going out to condition it.
I use Safflower oil because it doesn't have an odor like olive oil.
Some of my favorite products are :

u/fiddy2014 · 3 pointsr/depressionregimens

This happens to me every month or so (at least). my hair is straight and thick but I think my lil system I came up with will work for any hair type.

Materials:

  1. Put oil throughout hair and focus on the knots
  2. Put conditioner throughout hair- again focus on the knots.
  3. Let products sit for awhile. I’ll usually take a nice relaxing bath while my hair is marinating in oil and conditioner lol
  4. Shower. Shampoo your scalp and rinse out the oil/conditioner. After everything is rinsed out, use the conditioner again the same way you did in step 2. While the conditioner is in your hair, you can use the Wet Brush to start brushing some out.
  5. After 10min, rinse out the conditioner and make sure it is ALL out.
  6. Towel dry hair
  7. Put leave-in conditioner allllll over your hair and massage it in
  8. Use the hair oil again on your ends and in the knots.
  9. Start brushin. Start brushing from the ends and work your way up- it’s much easier. Sometimes I rub some of the hair oil on the tips of my brush to give a lil more lubrication to it lol. You can keep applying oil as needed.

You may have to shower one more time if you used a lot of oil and/or if your hair looks greasy

I hope I helped!!!! It’s definitely an undertaking and this is what I use every single time!!!!
u/yonash53 · 3 pointsr/tressless

None of them honestly.
If you really wanna help people apply topical easily and forget about it,
I would go with an topical apllicator brush design. who spread the topicals evenly all over the scalp. Massage it at the same time.
A high quality product that won't leak and break easily would be great. It should also be easy to clean.
There's some products like this on Amazon. But none of them are high quality products unfortunately.
I'm using a normal minoxidil pipett to apply Ru58841 and minox.
There's also a regenepure applicator who sells very decent, and has positive feedback. But it's a spray type of thing, which suits guys with very short hair.
Look at this brush for an example:
Club Roots HydroBrush, Liquid Dispensing Hair Brush for Hair Growth Treatments and Serums https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DXSC8BY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_r8YTDbAYX1ZRR
The regenepure applicator:
https://youtu.be/MwOSYafzHZQ
Hope it helped you.

u/funky_fresh_kicks · 11 pointsr/IDontWorkHereLady

Not OP but, I love my shower brush. I use the wet brush (Wet Brush Original Detangler, Purple https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07CWQXQCY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_BVOKBbKJMQKCP ). I brush my hair after I put in conditioner or other treatments. It’s the BEST detangler because the tines of the brush are really flexible so there’s really no pulls on your scalp. I’ve been using one for years (I actually have two, and use the other one out of the shower). They have the added benefit of finally helping me grow my hair out, I guess because I’ve had so much less breakage?? Anyway, I would definitely recommend it

u/waffleironone · 1 pointr/longhair

I know this isn't what you asked for at all, but as someone with really really long and thick curly hair I just got this brush recently and really have been enjoying it. It's all wood and the bristles feel great, not crazy expensive, and feels really sturdy. I've broken my last 3 hairbrushes by the handle and I can feel that its not gonna happen with this one. Really happy with it. Also I've heard that wide tooth combs are great? I've never tried them but it might be something to look into.

In medicine, there is a term called "clinical" and "subclinical." A subclinical method to detect your hair loss would be to use a folliscope to measure hair density. A clinical method would be to look at directly, as we all are, and observe.

The average human head has about 100,000 hair follicles (it actually differs among ethnicities and even sub-european groups). If you are noticing this now, and have never noticed it before in your life, you most likely have some form of male patterned baldness or telogen effluvium.

Start on the Big 3 as soon as you can, minoxidil, propecia, and ketoconzole. You'll be super happy you did, because at this rate you can maintain your hair for YEARS. I have personally seen many people who have slightly thin hair, but nobody notices or cares because they took action early. Right now, I'm guessing the only person who notices it is you, and when its wet. That is an amazing position in that many people are very envious of, be super happy that you noticed it early.

Another pro-tip: with that much hair, it will be hard for you to use minoxidil and get it on your scalp instead of your hair, so use a hydrobrush to apply treatment: https://www.amazon.com/Roots-Hair-Club-HydroBrush-Dispensing/dp/B01DXSC8BY

u/pgmoney · 2 pointsr/SingleDads

I'm in the same situation as you. I've found the no tangle brush from Amazon to work wonders. I also take a bit of conditioner after the bath and put it in her hair and then brush it in. Both have vastly improved hair brushing time and her hair looks great and I get a lot of mileage out of looking like a competent single father of a little girl. It also sometimes helps to brush the hair a bit while she's in the bath and it's under water. Good luck!

That is a fantastic point about getting the hair mostly dry before using the brush.

I would also recommend good clips for creating manageable sections when the round brush is employed.
This is the round brush that I use:

Olivia Garden Nano Thermic Ceramic Ion Brush, 2 1/8 Inch https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003IX36H0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_lh67AbPX20APS

I have a lot of hair and it doesn’t tangle around the neck and seems to keep heat so I can use less heat.

These are good clips, there are many brands but for example: https://www.thedrybar.com/hold-me-hair-clips

I’m really passionate about my home blow out 😂

The Wet Brush is good, or we have had good success run this one.

Boar Bristle Hair Brush set –... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01D3Y6WFG?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Also leave in conditioner is key- honestly I buy a salon one! My five year old has waist length, thick hair so I need all the help I can get.

u/potatostatus · 1 pointr/Sikh

This has worked wonders for me. My hair is so curly that it used to be an hour long task of just sitting down and untangling my hair after every hair wash.

Divide your hair into 3 or 4 joorian (more if you have more voluminous hair), and work your way from the bottom up in each section one by one.

Work at it, have someone help you, but don’t resort to cutting/burning it. Treasure the gift Guru Ji has blessed you with.

u/amaryllis_amaryllis · 1 pointr/curlyhair

First off, Happy Cake Day!

Secondly, yes. My hair can get really tangled but I am fairly sure that I have low porosity hair. I find it's easier to comb through just after I rinse out the conditioner with warm water. I've recently begun applying gel shortly after using a leave-in conditioner. I think it's because of this that my hair now absorbs water without any difficulty on my wash days, this makes it much more manageable in turn and not a pain to detangle.

I know some brushes aren't that great at detangling. I've used a wet brush, it does detangle but not as well as a tangle teezer in my experience. I have had good results with a wide toothed shower comb and this brush.

I LOVE mine.

My hair is super thick and I was having a hard time getting my scalp "clean". This takes all the work out of it and as an unexpected bonus has really amped up my curls too!

u/iamafoxiamafox · 6 pointsr/FancyFollicles

Yes this is correct! Blowout with probably a 2.25" brush with "porcupine" style bristles. Probably something like this. You can learn how to do a pretty great blowout on YouTube! If you purchase this brush, buy some sort of blowout serum or balm too, and some clips to section off your hair as you work up.

u/SereneWisdom · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon
  1. This has to be one of my favorites simply because I detest brushing my hair and feeling the pain of knots. Dx

  2. Well, I'm always wanting to expand my collection and those are mighty fine-looking nail polishes. Plus the other make-up would be great in making me look all dolled up. :)

  3. And I'd totally rock some banana nail polish if I could find some. xD Thank you for this contest.
u/happy_in_theory · 2 pointsr/TwoXChromosomes

I used to have terrible ,greasy hair just recently starting using T-gel it's expensive so I only use it every few days and use a shower cap on in between days.

I also used to have bad skin but I stopped wearing make-up around the house and cut out very sugary drinks. I'm not sure this works for everyone but it's always worth a try.

Don't bother curling your eyelashes the average joe won't know the difference, just get an eyebrow pencil they are usually whats frames your face and get an eyebrow shaver instead of plucking takes seconds.

I have a round face and have found I don't suit a lot of haircuts, I just opt for a long, fringe less hairstyle it's easier make sure all your layers fall past your chin(or cheekbones at least) or it could make your make your face rounder. Then you can shove your hair into a bun especially high ones work for faces like ours. The other thing I have found helpful( if you have hair that tangles really easy otherwise don't bother) is getting a decent brush and brushing it when it's wet , this one I found recently I am in love.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Wet-Brush-Purple-Classic/dp/B00867OEQK/ref=sr_1_4_s_it?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1493674948&sr=1-4&keywords=wet+brush

So i think most days you should be able to pull your hair up and just put chapstick unless your going out somewhere. This is how I do it because I'm lazy and it's taken me years to get to grips with all those products.
Don't know if any of these will work for you but just in case.

In addition to what everyone else had said, this brush got me through my hair when I went through a similar depression. I eventually cut off 15 inches, which was super liberating, but that brush and “it’s a 10” detangler helped me more than any other of the dozens of brushes and detanglers I tried. Hope you feel better :)

u/return-null · 2 pointsr/curlyhair

You also want to make sure that you're scrubbing your hair when you rinse. I probably do about 2-3 minutes with the conditioner in my hair. And then 1-2 minutes scrubbing as I rinse.

I also like to use a shampoo brush when cowashing. I have dense hair and it's super helpful.

u/basiden · 1 pointr/moderatelygranolamoms

I know this is a little off topic, but for anyone who has been searching for a non-animal alternative that's good for frizzy or tangling hair: wooden bristles. This sort of thing works great. I love my wooden brush and my hair is a nightmare of tangles.

Sorry, no judgement intended, OP, but it took me ages to find out about these, so thought I'd share.

u/clips_phrases · 1 pointr/malegrooming

Well, I've got pretty long hair now so I use a around 4 different types of brush/combs for different purposes.

Your hair is still pretty short, so you can get away with just one brush. I read you're limited on resources so any ball tip brush will work to get to your scalp.

My personal favorite is this style. It really gets to the scalp and spreads the oil well. Its more of a hassle to clean but it just feels real good to brush with.

u/OsmanthusJelly · 1 pointr/BuyItForLife

I have hip length 1C/2A hair. I admit my hair is super slick even though it's a bit fuzzy.

I have this brush: http://smile.amazon.com/dp/B000OUBC8A/

Denman Cushion Brush Nylon Bristles, 9-Row

The best thing about this brush is once in a while when it gets gunky, you can take the entire thing apart, wash it, and reassemble it. It doesn't have little balls on the ends to pull your hair out, and the bristles are soft enough to not hurt, yet strong enough to comb through.

I've had mine for 3 years so far and it shows no sign of wear.

I highly recommend it.

u/nerdscallmegeek · 1 pointr/TwoXChromosomes

Ever tried a special detangling brush like these? black girls use brushes like this for their hair when it gets knotted up, could work for you.

maybe use a wide tooth comb while you still have conditioner in your hair in the shower could help.

you can also see if your hairstylist can cut some weight off your hair so there isn't so much of it to get tangled.

braid your hair before going to bed too. that'll keep your hair from tangling up too much while you sleep. I've even heard using satin pillowcases is better for your hair.

u/beerbabe · 2 pointsr/Makeup

I've always had the best results from paddle brushes. Mine has wooden bristles, which I really like. You might get better answers in /r/fancyfollicles or /r/hair though.

I wrap my daughter's (she a wee lass) curly hair in a bun and use those soft ponytail holders (like this: http://i00.i.aliimg.com/wsphoto/v0/632541658/100pcs-Freeshipping-Beautiful-Girls-Hair-Accessaries-Rainbow-Elastic-Hair-Bands-Rope-Tie-Ponytail-Holder-Ponies-Mix.jpg) to keep ti in place. We use leave-in conditioner and a Knot Genie (http://www.amazon.com/Knot-Genie-Detangling-Brush-Fairy/dp/B007OWPWG4) brush for detangling.

Good luck!

p.s. I like to think I have some credibility in this area. Here's a high school pic of me & my little sister. My daughter inherited my curls/knots: https://plus.google.com/u/1/photos/110215565182616777712/albums/5583190167322895585/5774011133982354722?authkey=CN6Z94aa-YHKsAE&pid=5774011133982354722&oid=110215565182616777712

I've struggled with dandruff all my life, but it would always come and go. I've tried the big brands like Selsun and Head and Shoulders, the Neutrogena stuff, and even cropping my hair close enough to rub lotions right onto the scalp. It didn't matter how long my hair was, what the weather was, or any of that. The two things that have helped immensely were changing my pillow cases about once a week or more, and Stopitt shampoo and pommade and a scalp brush.

It's not always all the way gone. I still get itchy from time to time, but I can wear black shirts without any worry at all. I discovered this stuff at the age of 33 and I wish I'd found it a lot earlier.

Also, I usually use just a little bit of product in my hair to keep it from being too fluffy. Just a little Byrlcream or something wax-based, and with the Stopitt scalp treatment I don't use any more or less. It doesn't affect the hair very much at all by itself. Maybe a little bit like a leave-in conditioner.

u/mandbinSF · 39 pointsr/whatisthisthing

Ohhh have you tried this type of detangler?

https://www.amazon.com/Tangle-Teezer-Original-Detangling-Hairbrush/dp/B0086QEO7K/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?keywords=detangler+brush&qid=1570199629&sprefix=detangler&sr=8-4

You can use it on wet curly hair from the bottom up and it works great and is super quick! Then you can just go back in after and blow dry with a boars brush and you won’t lose any bristles!

u/GristForWilliamBligh · 1 pointr/AskSF

Exfoliating is when you mechanically (like with your hand, a washcloth, a loofah, etc.) remove dead skin. This is fantastic for your head and body.

With the oil, after you shower and your hair is still a little damp, rub just a couple of drops between your hands to warm it up and then rub it into your hair and scalp. You don't need much at all. Because your hair is readjusting to a more natural state where it self-regulates its oils, it may be a little greasier at first than you want it to be, but it should adjust over time and you'll figure out how much or little oil is right to add back in. Your mileage may vary, of course, but I know far more people who have been surprised by how well it's worked for them than those who haven't.

Combs with rounded brushes also help! Personally, I've had a lot better consistently more voluminous hairstyles with rounded brushes than any other types or with my hands.

When my boyfriend really wants to descale his head he uses two things. He washes his scalp really good with the DHS Zinc Shampoo, which active ingredient is Pyrithione Zinc while 'scraping' his scalp with something that looks like this. He then lets it sit on his head for about 5 minutes then rinses thoroughly.

Keep in mind, he gets really bad dandruff for a day or two after this treatment (worse than normal anyway), mainly because it loosens so much stuff off, but then his scalp looks and feels a lot better.

u/WeathersRabbits · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Yup totally. It's the same products I've seen in hair bottles. Only this one is pretty, smells good and strengthens my hair. A tiny bit goes a long way!

Also... sorry I was useing the wrong name for the type of brush I like... it's a wooden bristle brush

u/siameseslim · 1 pointr/muacjdiscussion

Close..this is the one similar to what I have, but I am sure that one would work as well.

It depends on the cause. Personally, I have seborrheic dermatutis. I find what works for me is to put head and shoulders in, scrub with something like this. Let sit for 5 minutes or so, then rinse. You could try that, see if it helps. If not, a trip to the dermatologist might help. They can tell you what's going on and how to fix it properly.

u/ItIsSkinDeep · 5 pointsr/curlyhair

> You really have to scrub your scalp with your fingertips to make sure you get rid of the build up.

I find that using a shampoo brush really helps with this.

The longest part of my hair reaches all the way down to my butt however my hair is so wavy that it looks like it only goes about half-way/three-quarters of the way down my back when it's dry.

As for hair pulling out, that's normal. We naturally shed 50-100 hairs a day, and sometimes even a bit more than that (Up to around 150 per day is still considered normal based on what I've read). Since your hair is thick, a lot of those hairs get trapped on your head until you eventually brush them out, so unless you have major clumps of hair coming out you have relatively little to be concerned about in this regard.

My favorite brush currently is this one: https://www.amazon.com/Wet-Brush-Detangle-Metallic-Purple/dp/B00867OEQK. I keep it in my purse with me and I typically use it in the shower to help work product through my hair, after I get out to work through my leave in products and part/style my hair, and then once again when I get to work to touch it up if necessary because my hair is usually still damp enough at that point since I don't blow dry my hair.

u/barking-chicken · 9 pointsr/DIY

The Nizoral is really what was the miracle for actually healing my scalp. And one of these combs. After that the idea was to find a shampoo that didn't strip my scalp of oils while still actually cleaning my hair. The Mane and Tail is just the right balance for me.

u/VagueNostalgicRamble · 1 pointr/daddit

Something like this? I looked up the So Cozy too, and only one I can see on there is £56 which is a bit much for me at the moment. Although I've only checked Amazon so far, I'll have to look around. Maybe it's not officially available over here, hence the price. I dunno...

I'd recommend a shampoo scalp brush. This is the one I use. Cleared up all of my dandruff/minox residue.

To clean out any build-up you may experience, I actually use a reusable straw pipecleaner-type brush

u/forherlight · 1 pointr/SebDerm

The scalp brush isn't for combing, it's for exfoliating the scalp and getting the flakes/scales off. I find that it works very well. I use it in the shower once I have lathered the shampoo onto my scalp thoroughly. Here's an example of one:

My favorite brush is the Hair Doc bamboo brush. It doesn’t have those plastic bits at the end of the bristles that always get stuck in my hair.

u/rockhopper2010 · 9 pointsr/malefashionadvice

I specifically requested the crazy stupid love cut. My stylist (who styles lots of photoshoots) taught me how, and now I do it every day. Put this in while hair is wet, then blowdry while using a Denman brush to shape your hair. Finish off with not very much hairspray. This achieves the perfect consistency. It stays in place but is not hard. I've gotten "Gosling" multiple times now.

Most of my suggestions have already been given (visor, swim goggles, washcloth, etc.). I'd like to put one more idea out there, though.

A 2.5 year old doesn't need to have her hair washed every day. Daily hair washing isn't really good for anyone, even adults.

If you're having hair tangling problems then consider a shorter haircut. Also, this hairbrush has magical detangling powers -- I was skeptical when my mother gave us one, but it works miracles on my daughter's hair.

u/X0utlanderX · 13 pointsr/tifu

The dude who cuts my hair went on and on about a shower brush he got. I ended up getting one. My bf uses it all the time on his beard and head. You could try one! This is the one he got so I also got it: Denman Be-Bop Massage Brush, Twister, Shampoo Brush https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000J1AD52/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_gJgFDbFK5AN72

We use both a Knot Genie and Wet Brush

Daughter still hates her hair being combed/brushed even if we're doing it right, but at least it's not a bird's nest when I drop her off at school.

I've watched so many YouTube videos and have followed the guides on here and product recommendations, they are so helpful!

So I have low porosity/thin/fine hair and I've been trying to take care of my hair more (I bleached my virgin hair last year and I regret it; I also cut my own hair recently using the double ponytail method and it has given me a boost in volume!). I have a new routine down that's been giving me amazing results but I still need to figure out how to keep this style to last for days...

Once a week my routine is this (ALERT - not a true CG method):

Pre-poo: I heat up a small amount of a homemade mix of coconut, jojoba, and caster oils. I rub that into my scalp and the lengths of my hair. I put it in a heat cap and leave it for 10 mins.

Shampoo: I shampoo TWICE using a sulfate free/clarifying shampoo (Giovanni). I do this and use this specific kind of product because my hair is low porosity so it gets weighed down easily from a lot of product build up. Cowashing is the enemy for low porosity. I suffer from oily/itchy scalp and dry hair so this really helps it to tone down.

**ACV RINSE**

Conditioner: My hair detangles like A LOT and I lose A LOT of hair. By the end of the week, my hair is rat's nest. I used to use my fingers and/or a wide toothed comb to detangle, but recently I just bought the Wet Brush Pro Quick Dry and it helped decrease my detangling time by 30% plus I shed a lot less. I just use a conditioner with lots of slip. I'm still trying to find one that is CG-approved and has lots of slip for my type of hair, but Giovanni does the trick right now. SQUISH TO CONDISH!

I rinse some of the conditioner out and put a deep conditioning masque on along with the heat cap again for 10ish minutes. I've been using a random one I found, but I'm going to be trying a SheaMoisture one soon.

I make sure to rinse all of the conditioners out AND rub my scalp to make sure it doesn't stay and cause buildup under hot water.

I then run Kinky Curly Knot Today Leave-in Conditioner through my hair, followed by LA Looks gel (just tried this out!). I style my hair using the denman brush (brush outwards from the scalp, scrunch, then push back. I put a little bit more of gel on my hands and scrunch the end a bit more.

I put my hair in a silk cap, air dry for 10-15 minutes, diffuse until 80% dry, SOTC, and fluff.
