Hi!

I've dealt with balding three times, in high school, college and just a few months ago. Hair will always come back! Do not despair.

This is the best vitamin there is, I've tried them all. Do not recommend biotin because it gives a lot of women (myself included) acne. They're pricey, but they work very, very well. I would take two before bed.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00XUNZVLM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Also, get a head messager and massage your head for two minutes every night. One like this:
https://www.amazon.com/Top-McKinley-Hand-Scalp-Massager/dp/B01NAOK3J0/ref=sr_1_2_s_it?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1521690965&sr=1-2&keywords=head+massager

Finally, a good scalp treatment. This is the shampoo I've liked the best, and there's another lotion by this company "Alfaparf" but for "thinning hair". Go to Sally's or another like store.

fave shampoo:
https://www.amazon.com/Biotin-Shampoo-Hair-Growth-Thickening/dp/B01M3Y6WW5/ref=sr_1_fkmr1_1_s_it?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1521691053&sr=1-1-fkmr1&keywords=alfaparf+for+thinning+hair

leave in "lotion":
https://unitedsalonsupplies.com/alfaparf-semi-di-lino-scalp-care-energizing-lotion-for-thinning-hair-12-ampules

Things that have worked for me:

-Cutting out gluten COMPLETELY.
-Leaving in my shampoo for 10 minutes, then conditioner for 10 minutes, then the lotion. Washing my head in the sink, not shower, so I can go about my night and leave everything on for a while.
-Doing a treatment every Sunday, leaving it in all day. I LOVED castor oil. Microwave it so it's a little warm, cause it's goopy. Try it first because it can get hot.
-Massage your head every night.
-Get allergy tested. You may be surprised.
-Get your hormones checked too.
-Buy a dry shampoo, stop washing your hair so often
-No more pony tails!!!! OR STRAIGTNING. It sucks, but trust me. Throw away all of your pony tails.

But seriously, finding the right shampoo and hair treatment and making your hair a SUPER PRIORITY for a few months and you will see results!!! If you DM me I can show you some of my pics and my progress and we can chat more.

Everything will be OK!!!!!!!!

u/DID_IT_FOR_YOU · 260 pointsr/WTF

It's a couple thousand dollars depending on how many hairs you need transplanted.

Also you put the stuff like Rogaine on your head for as long as you care about keeping your hair (not the transplant hair but the hair around it that hasn't fallen out yet).

I started balding early and so started using Rogaine, it's pretty much a no brainer. Take Shower -> Dry Off -> Take 30sec to put on Rogaine -> Rest of my routine.

It's really no big deal since it takes so little time and has a good chance of slowing or halting your hair loss completely.

Honestly brushing my teeth is more of a hassle than putting some foam on my head.

I also use a product called Caboki. It's a hair concealer but uses natural fibers that just attach themselves to your thin hairs making them thicker. It works well and is water proof. While wearing it I actually look like I have a full head of hair VS my normal thin hair head that allows you to see my scalp. Nobody can tell unless they rub their hands through your hair and wonder what the tiny black stuff on their hand is. This also takes about 30-45 seconds to apply making it very easy to do with little effort.

Overall this stuff costs me about $20-30 a month. To me the price of one trip to the movies is worth not being self-conscious about my balding head every time I go to work. Put it on in the morning and then completely forget about it.

P.S. For anyone wondering why I don't shave it, I CANNOT pull off a bald head. I just have one of those heads where a shiny dome would make things worse. Also 2 hair products is nothing compared to what women do to get ready in the morning.

FEBRON

I've been looking at youtube and text reviews about FEBRON, they say is better that toppik. I order a free sample at their website to try.

First time buying these things as well. I also looked at caboki but then i saw more postive reviews about FEBRON. Maybe you should order a FEBRON free sample as well and tell us about caboki vs Febron, i would be very interested to see that.

What i don't want to buy is Toppik, since is the number 1 brand and i'm not those types of guys that buy the most popular brand :P, i also heard you look green if your hair gets wet on Toppik.

EDIT: By the way FEBRON also comes with more more grams for the same price as Toppik, like 30% more product for the same price something like that.

u/whatsah0ya · 5 pointsr/weddingplanning

Ohmygosh I'm sorry I didn't see this post in time to help you with your trial but I am IN THAT BOAT and have been all my life. (This got long, sorry -- skip to bottom for pictures)

I ended up doing 2 trials before the big day, because at the first I was so disappointed in how "flat" my hair felt and was having trouble envisioning what it would look like after I'd ordered extensions, so I ordered some and then we did a REAL "dress rehearsal" trial.

So my hair is extremely fine and yet somehow also coarsely textured and wavy, and also thin enough that you can see my scalp. But my hairdresser was a freaking magician and made me look like a thick-haired goddess. I also have a small purple streak in the underlayers on one side of my head and she worked it through the updo flawlessly.

Another note -- I hate the way my head looks with volume at the crown ("bump-it" style doesn't suit my face) so she was working with a terribly conflicting set of instructions ("please give me a ton of volume but also try to keep the top relatively close to my head"). She did some teasing but minimal "bump-it" type shaping, and she used a foam bun ring AND extensions galore to build up a huge curly messy mass at the back of my head. She used about 7 tracks of 18" extensions. I topped the whole thing off with a big floppy silk flower comb and a cathedral-length veil Y'all -- I had so much shit in/on my head.

My other MAJOR advice I wish I'd discovered years ago is a product that I actually use on a daily basis for that "so thin you can see my scalp" issue (my hair's dark brown, so my white scalp stands out like a bald spot if I sleep on it wrong). THIS STUFF is magical. I sprinkle it on and then sort of tousel with my fingers and it makes my hair instantly look thicker. For my wedding hair, it helped cover any scalp that appeared as my hair shifted throughout the day, especially up by my bangs where I left a lot down.

The true test of the day was the outdoor portraits: it was CRAZY windy. But my hair made it through those, as well as the entire reception. Some of the curl fell out of my face-framing pieces by the end of the night, but that updo held strong. My husband said it was like watching me do the neverending scarf magic trick as I slowly removed all of my hair items at the end of the night.

Pictures:

[Here's an album of as many different views of my head as I could find] (https://imgur.com/a/Aymbr)

And here's a picture of our coolest (only) dance move partly to show how well my hair held up, even upside down....and partly because I love this picture.

(edit) Adding a picture of my everyday hair -- look at my part to see how thin/fine it is. I get sunburn like all over the top of my head every summer. Sigh.

u/bociboci · 1 pointr/malehairadvice

I don't usually visit this subreddit, but I saw your post and I thought I could help because I've experienced something similar too. First, for a temporary fix, check out Caboki/Toppik hair fibers or Toppik Hair Thickener spray. You can find them at your local drugstore or on Amazon. It will help hide the thinning spots until you find out what's causing this. The fibers can brush off easy once applied, so you'll need a medium/strong hold hair spray to keep them on your hair. The Toppik Hair thickener spray is more convenient than the fibers because it coats your scalp - kinda like spray paint. It's very safe and I used it to hide my thinning spots successfully. I actually preferred it to the fibers. In your case, I think it should work pretty well.

Next, make an appointment with your doctor and see if you can't get to the bottom of what's causing this. I don't think it's likely you suffer from androgenetic alopecia (male pattern baldness) given your lack of family history and the way in which you're losing hair, which is not the typical vertex/temple loss.

This looks to me like it's possibly telogen effluvium, which is temporary in the majority of cases. It basically makes healthy hairs on your head fall out prematurely. You lose your hair diffusely (all over your head) or in spots (or both if you're lucky like me). It can be triggered by any number of things, like stress or new medication, which is why you should see your doctor. I suffered from telogen effluvium caused by an anti-depressant I was taking. It made me lose hair all over my head. It didn't all fall out, but it got thinner. Some spots were worse than others and my hairline got hit pretty badly as well. It started off as barely noticeable, but it became pretty obvious after 3 months on the medication. I used to have thick long shoulder length hair until I had to buzz it because it started to look ridiculous. You're nowhere near that point, so don't worry about shaving your head. My trigger was obviously the medication, so I stopped. It's been 3 months since then and I'm seeing slight improvement, but my doctor says it takes at least 6 months to a year for your hair to return to normal once you figure out and stop what's causing it. You won't know for sure until you're examined. Don't shave your head or use Rogaine or any other extreme treatments until you know for sure what kind of hair loss you have.

u/iiiiejiii · 2 pointsr/FemaleHairLoss

That hairloss is kind of fast. 2 months and your scalp is already showing.... Could be a number of different things. Did you expeeience any big changes in your life ? Have you been stressed recently ?

My first advice is to book an appointment at a dermatologist first.

  • he has to examin your scalp (if he doesnt, run!)
  • order some tests (iron level, biotin, vitamin D, hormones, etc.)
  • You can ask for a scalp biopsy just for certainty. It nails down the diagnosis. TE and AGA are somewhat similar inbterms of how they present

My second advice is hair care all the way:
  • you can cut your hair to keep it manageable (so it doesnt get tangled)
  • buy complements. Your pharmacist can advise you. Just dont take the most expensive one, it makes no difference
  • you can try hair powder to cover your balding spot :https://www.amazon.com/Toppik-Hair-Building-Fibers-Brown/dp/B0009FHJRS#

Just wait before starting minoxidyl, its better to get your physician's opinion.

    Best of luck !
u/chodesinsteadoftoes · 1 pointr/femalehairadvice

I would say alopecia, but I’m not a doctor. They do sell Bosley hair fibers that cover up the spot. I hope this helps!! I hear great reviews, im a barber. I deal with this stuff all the time.

u/amugglestruggle · 14 pointsr/IAmA

Fellow PCOS victim here - my hair is super thin and not very full on top either, but the toppik hair fiber has saved my life. I bought it for my wedding and have been using it every single day since, and I bought a teasing comb and tease the back and sides of my hair to give it the illusion of fullness. Obviously everyone's case is different, but my mum barely has hair on her head and she uses the fibers too. It helps significantly, could be worth a try for you as well.

u/mariolopezdispenser · 1 pointr/TrollXChromosomes

I don't touch my hair that often, but in my experience if you use a little hairspray they stay in place better. Not sure how they hold up if you touch your hair a lot.

Here are the reviews; I'm sure someone here has answered or could answer you better than I can.

u/mojimouse · 1 pointr/trichotillomania

Before I shaved my head, I used a knock-off brand of Toppik I bought off of Amazon. It's a bag with 57 grams worth, I would just get a spoon and scoop it into an empty Toppik bottle and use that. I had a huge bald patch on the top of my head and that would last me for a little over a month. It does shed worse and get all over everything a whole lot worse than Toppik, but it essentially did the same job. I would recommend this route if you're still interested in using hair fibers or willing to give it another try though. It's a cheaper alternative for sure.

https://www.amazon.com/Hair-Building-Highest-Bottles-Competitors/dp/B01BMORA3M/ref=mp_s_a_1_26?keywords=toppik&qid=1556199940&s=gateway&sr=8-26

u/flawless_fille · 28 pointsr/femalefashionadvice

Is it thinning all over, or are there just patches missing? My good friend goes through phases where she loses patches of hair, but she is able to wear her hair up in a bun or ponytail and it's not noticeable at all. However, I wouldn't suggest this if your hair is thinning all over - putting your hair up causes extra stress on it that you don't need.

There is also this hair powder filler I saw that may be good if you want to wear your hair down - it's kind of like eyebrow filler but for your scalp. You may also want to look into something called "hair fibers." I tried googling these but you may just want to check out the hair section in your drugstore or grocery store. I remember seeing these there and at the mall. Something kind of like this but you should do your own research. I don't know how gimmicky these are.

Otherwise it kind of looks like hats/headbands/scarves for the short term or wigs for the long term, like what other people are saying. I'm not really familiar with wigs but they sound kind of itchy :/ If it were me I would probably wear a knit hat or something unless I was pretty sure this was going to be like a six months+ of continuing thinning hair. I want to suggest like a cute fedora but those have gotten a bad rep in the last few years. Or you could just go full on Sinead O'Connor, shave your head, and wear a bow to feminize it. Or pretend it's 1999 and wear a handkerchief headband thing.

You’re beautiful!! I use these four products to cover spots:
Hairline:
Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Definer

Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz

Crown/side spots:
Toppik Hair Building Fibers

Toppik Fiber Hold Spray

The thing that helps me not pull the most is putting athletic tape on my pointer finger.
Athletic tape

And using a streaks app on my phone

Good luck! I know it sucks ☹️ 😞

u/dc041894 · 2 pointsr/malehairadvice

Visit /r/tressless and do some research. The "big 3 for hairloss are Minoxidil, Finasteride, and Nizoral. Keep in mind some people respond better to these than others so your results will vary. If you want a temporary coverup, use a concealer like Toppik or Cabooki

u/danceinthepuddles · 2 pointsr/alopecia_areata

There are coloured root sprays that could help disguise it. L'oreal and Clairol are both good.

Alternatively a little shake of Toppik might help blend it so it's not so obvious.

u/Synarya · 2 pointsr/asktransgender

Depending on how big the spot is, something like this might help.

u/Harumphapotamus · 2 pointsr/weddingplanning

Amazing curls! I was also really worried about my thin hair around my part and actually filled in using [toppik](http://www.TOPPIK.com/ Hair Building Fibers, Auburn, 0.11 oz. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00GUPTNWA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_jvnZCbGTSPGRE). It's basically fine particles that sit on your scalp and hair and help fill in. Its a little finnicky and requires practice not to get patches (it has to be lightly dusted in) but it made a world of difference to me!

u/YeahSmingersDidIt · 5 pointsr/femalefashionadvice

Have you tried Toppik? It will fill in your bald spots with fibers that match your hair color. I have the same problem (visible scalp) and it makes a huge difference to look of my hair and my self confidence. Most people can't tell I have thinning hair because of it.

u/antigravityponytail · 2 pointsr/FemaleHairLoss

This helps a lot: TOPPIK Hair Fibers Spray Applicator https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000QGKQXO/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_lQeGDbJH1W7QA

I believe it only fits on the 0.42 ounce container, though.

u/Pawtahmoose · 1 pointr/curlyhair

Wish I saw this post sooner!

My hair is thinner than yours. I started losing it when I was 15ish, and doctors have told me that it'll probably get worse.

I use things like Toppik and scalp concealing powders to do the job.

Believe me, it took me a long time to even consider using these products. Like you, I felt embarrassed and frustrated at the very thought. Still, these products help tremendously.

Let me know if you need any tips on applying these products :)

u/AnArcticTaco · 1 pointr/tressless

Hey I don't really have much that could answer the questions you asked in your post.

But I think you may be interested in this product: https://www.amazon.com/TOPPIK-Hair-Building-Fibers-Brown/dp/B000CBVAQ0/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1468994021&sr=8-1&keywords=Topikk

I haven't bought it and don't have the need for it^yet but I think it could help you get a fuller look for your hair!

I'm sorry you're going through this. The horrors of going through hair loss as a man seems minuscule compared to that of a woman in my opinion. Hang in there.

u/insomnotek · 13 pointsr/Kappa

its called super millionare hair and it works pretty well. burnt chrysler, a comedian, said he used to use it all the time when he went on tv but it ended up biting him in the ass because now he has to have it every time he goes to work.

I'm going through the same thing right now!
Years ago I took this supplement;
https://www.amazon.com/PHYTO-Phytophanère-Dietary-Supplement-Supply/dp/B004GF6RRU

It made my hair grow faster - though I'd say it takes at least a month or so to work. And it makes ALL your hair grow faster, not just your head! I remember shaving my legs a lot more. Hang in there - it will grow!

u/Ihearthuckabees · 4 pointsr/trichotillomania

u/MarivelleSF · 1 pointr/PCOS

You might want to try some hair fiber powder. It takes some time to learn how to apply properly (if you overdo it, it may look noticeable), but it's been really great for me.

XFusion Economy Keratin Hair Fibers, Medium Brown 28g https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007AKSGH2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_jtWOyb5G8XPTT

I've also heard people here talk about wiglets, for more severe hair loss. In most cases, I think the powder can do the trick.

u/TheRegalHarvester · 1 pointr/Hair

Unfortunately hair loss and balding/receding is all down to genetics.

Toppik Hair Building Fibers, Black 12g https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0013TZ016/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_oKd0Db4SYJNDG

Check this out. I like it because the fibers do sorta give the texture of hair, unlike some of the powders that look very flat. They send sample sizes of colors you want to try for relatively inexpensive. And idk about heavy cardio, but I’ve got a client who lifts weights at the gym several times a week and he says he never has problems with sweating it off. And his bald spot is very noticeable.

u/bananafofana123 · 2 pointsr/Menopause

I use Toppik to hide the thinning areas. Also functions as a dry shampoo, when I use it I can skip a shampoo

u/kaustickelpie · 1 pointr/wls

Having curly hair AND having hair loss even before the surgery, I can tell you my curls do little to nothing to hide the hair loss. I recommend just using a product. My mom loves Toppik spray but imo it's kinda gross and sticky and gets everywhere. I prefer the 'fibers' but Toppik is sooo stupid expensive. So what I've done is kept an old empty Toppik fibers container and have been refilling it with this. Works pretty good. Can't get your hair wet or it kinda washes away but you're gonna get that with most of these kinds of products.

u/bluejuiselove · 2 pointsr/PCOS

Omg I have the same issues! The anxiety, the weight, and the thinning of my hair. For the thinning, I suggest a product called Toppik. That stuff saved me. I can do whatever hair style I want, but just use Toppik to fill in the sparse spots.

Edit: Sorry Wrong Link. Here's the correct one! https://www.amazon.com/TOPPIK-Hair-Building-Fibers-Auburn/dp/B00GUPTNWA
