For reference, I started going to an esthetician in 2012. In 2013, my favorite esthetician moved and I decided to get my own kit. She recommended these products to me, although I believe she probably used an Aveda oil instead of the one I found. I've got a sewing-sized bag I use to store the burner, waxes, applicators, and muslin strips for my Gigi wax. I do recommend not double dipping.. even though it's just you, that's nasty. I get the wide and narrow applicators and break a bunch of them in half to get more use and cut waste.

Depending on how long your hairs are, you may want to trim them or shave it clean off. Waxing with hair that is less than 1/4 inch is usually ineffective while waxing hair that is longer than 3/4 inch is usually quite painful. For me, about 2-3 weeks growth is optimal but everyone is different so YMMV.

This product is applied to clean skin before waxing. It makes a huge difference... it smells nice, moisturizes a bit, and most importantly keeps wax from adhering to the skin. Be sparing, if you apply too much the wax doesn't grip the hair but it's no problem to just wipe some off. This one bottle has lasted me four years. As wax heats, cools, heats, cools, I find it doesn't work quite as well. Especially hard waves which seem to become brittle and less effective to rip off. I tried a few Honey hard waxes that were probably expired and had to use an exacto blade to carefully cut the wax AND hair away from a very important piece of anatomy. Horrifying. I've never had this issue with the Cirepil wax, so don't let this horrific anecdote scare you away from waxing!!!

To remove the wax, I just use whatever coconut/olive/carrier oil I have lying around. I get in the shower and let the oil and warm water do their thing.

I haven't yet found a specific product to prevent ingrowns/sanitize that I like but the Mario Badescu glycolic acid I used to use on my face (it's a little to harsh for my rosacea but it works just fine on my less tender.. tender bits) gets the job done just fine! Apply right after showering and every 5-7 days after to prevent ingrowns.

If you can, wax when you're ovulating. Take some ibuprofen/acetaminophen, and wear clothing that won't constrict or abrade the area. I like putting silk undergarments in a ziploc bag in my freezer to wear afterward. Super soothing.

Technique is really important. Experiment, does it work better when you apply wax with/against the grain and when you rip the wax with/against the grain? I apply against and rip with, but it's different for everyone I wager. I lay down a big ripped open trashbag to catch any wax drips, cover most of my body in an oil in case the wax drips on my body, put my hair up high and out of the way.

Prop up an extra mirror (preferably a magnifying mirror that you can move around) to help make sure I get everything. There's a lamp in our bathroom on the sink I turn on to light from below to make sure no shadow from overhead lighting obscures the hairs.

Some small hairs are tough to get, so I keep two kinds of tweezers handy for post-shower clean up.

If your man is up to it, offer him your skills after you're sure you can do it well. I hear tell it's appreciated...

I wrote a version of this comment a couple of months ago, so here is a slightly updated version (still the same amount of cursing tho):

Okay, this is a novel but it's my journey with epilating and some things I've learned along the way. I am a total baby when it comes to pain but I managed to overcome it.

My friend epilates and convinced me to try it. I bought a cheap one on Amazon, tried it, hated it, sent it back, and bought the mack daddy Braun Silk Epil 9, and I have to tell you it was rough going at first but now I love it.

It really did hurt like everloving FUCK the first time. I have a lot of hair. A lot. Friend said it would hurt less as I go on, on which I called bullshit. It was so so so bad that I couldn't even do a full leg in one go. And forget above the knees, Jesus tap dancing Christ Almighty.

Why I love it now: friend was right, damn her. It really truly gets better the more you do it, and I mean almost immediately. The second time is like night and day compared to the first. The reason for this is that hair grows in cycles. All the hair on your legs didn't all start growing at the same time, so when you rip all that hair out, every hair isn't growing back at the same rate. I would say it's about 1/2 to 1/3 of the amount of hair that grows back long enough to epilate in about a week's time. The lower density of hair makes for a MUCH less painful experience, and for me to say that, well, you saw how much of a little bitch I was in the previous paragraph. It seriously doesn't even phase me now.

Also why I love it: when you shave hair you leave a blunt edge which can feel like the hair is thicker and makes stubble feel stubblier. When the hair is plucked, it grows back nice and tapered and is softer to the touch. Because the hairs are growing back in less density, it's less noticeable. I can go for a week without giving a fuck about the hair on my legs.

Also, shaving just fucking sucks for me. It tears up my skin, I get itchy, and then it grows back in like a day. Epilating 4 lyfe, man.

But it took some trial and error to get there, which wisdom I will now bestow upon you. Here is my routine:

1. Exfoliate. For the love of God, before and after. Exfoliating means less dead skin means less chance for ingrown hairs. My preferred way to so this is with a hammam glove like this one. Look up the Baiden Mitten, then buy a hammam mitt on amazon because they're way cheaper. But it basically sloughs off the dead skin in rolls and is super gross and super satisfying. I did this right before the last time I epilated and my legs are soooooo smoooooth I can't even.
   
   
2. Nothing on your skin, no lotion or whatever. The epilator tweezers might slip on the hair and break it. This leads to subparly smooth legs and ingrown hairs. So I wash in the shower with a soap that won't leave any residue, hammam it up, and then dry off and epilate.
   
   
3. Epilate! If you have a wet/dry epilator you can do it in the shower with really hot water. This truly does alleviate the pain, and this was how I did it every time when I first started. I have found though that when I do this, the time it takes me to do my lower legs means that the water has made the hair on my upper legs much softer and prone to breakage, so the epilating isn't as effective. I usually suck it up and do it dry now.
   
   
4. Exfoliate again! This time I do chemical exfoliation. I use Stridex pads, the kind that come in the red box. Red box is important because it's at the right pH to actually exfoliate.
   
   
5. Soothe and/or moisturize. I slap on some aloe gel for this. Then I take care to moisturize daily afterwards.
   
   Rinse and repeat! I find that going more than a week in between hair ripping sessions means the growth is just enough to start to be painful again. I do this about every 5 days because my hair grows fast, but I'm hoping to extend it to a week eventually (which coincidentally is the recommended time to go in between exfoliating seshes).
   
   With this routine, which takes less and less time every time I do it, I don't get any bumps and only the occasional ingrown hair, usually on my upper thighs. Your legs will be kind of red and splotches after, and there may even be angry red dots where the hair was ripped out, but this goes away very quickly, and by the next day they look completely normal. It's never going to be completely smooth like with shaving, but honestly the tradeoff to me is worth it because when I shave, my legs are never perfectly smooth anyway because of the damage the razor does to my skin. Epilating is way gentler on my skin and I love the results I get.
   
   My final piece of advice: if you can stand it, wax everything first. Then the first growth cycle you epilate will be much less painful than if you'd started with the epilator. I used these Veet wax strips and yes it hurt like a bitch but ripping a giant bandaid off your legs is way better than slowly moving an epilator up your legs knowing that the pain just isn't going to stop. I have also done this again when I waited too long in between epilating and I just couldn't face the pain again.
   
   If you don't want to wax, what I've also done (I told you this was an arduous journey) is shave first with the shaver attachment on my epilator, then epilate. There are very few hairs left behind that are long enough for it to grab, so you can get used to the sensation.
   
   I haven't been brave enough to do my underarms yet, because the couple times I tried I was actually yelping from the pain. I may try waxing those first which I'm sure will also be an experience....

   PS I should mention that I have sensitive skin in general and I'm prone to things like eczema, ingrown hairs and body acne, but epilating with this routine does not exacerbate this at all.

Number one. It sucks being ditched, and you deserve better. Keep your chin up - and have a bitchin' night with some wine and Netflix. Aww yeah.

Second. Train Bleu. Super matte, super vampy, and can be worn sheer or full intensity. When sheered out it has a beautiful true purple color (here's what that looks like here) and at full intensity it is dark. as. EFF. (Here but looks a little redder due to the lighting). I like to use this for my red ombre lips as the outer color, looks fab.

I'm super serious here, I love this lipstick more than I love most people and you need it.

There's regrowth, I just get lazy lol. Hair grows in phases so you might notice some regrowth less than a month in, but it's also a greatly reduced amount when it starts growing in. It's easiest to wax at home when there's less hair, and since I've been waxing so long, there are certain areas that barely come in even after 3 months.

Yea that part is pretty hard esp if you're feeling discouraged. For me my thought of the body I want is the source of motivation. Also I try to always make sure there's time to workout because I know it will help me get towards something I really want. Once I got over the initial hump I realise it's not so bad and even see a little progress and it just snowballs from there. At this point I'm looking forward to working out because I know it takes me one step closer. Focusing on small wins has really kept me motivated and focused.

The hair thing is pretty tough. I'm not sure what the affordable range is, but you can get a wax warmer on Amazon for like $25 and wax for like $25 for 2 pounds but then the wax is a reoccurring cost so yea it can get expensive. That's the cheapest option I've found though. I'll edit with the links just in case. There are prob better options but I'm happy with the purchase so far.

Please don't feel depressed. Removing hair is not a societal necessity. I hope that taking these steps to remove something that bothers you makes you feel beautiful and strong- not subverted. Have you tried hard wax? As another poster mentioned, surgiwax is also great. I'd recommend disinfecting the area with alcohol, using a clean wand for the wax and using some 2.5% BP after to keep the area free from germs that cause break outs. Exfoliating is an important step, too. I've struggled with bacne since puberty and its so devastating that I used to cover myself up. A gentle cleanser and salux cloth have entirely eliminated that problem for me. Chin up, beautiful. <3

I mean I guess I could cut my own hair. I’m just bad at it. In my area, 35 is average for a cut. It comes with the wash because I think it’s easier on the stylist to deal with it wet.

Yeah it does cost money to wax. It lasts a little longer than shaving and it makes your hair finer and easier to deal with. I can’t wax my brows because of an old scar (they won’t do it over scar tissue for some reason). Some women need a full face wax. They grow hair on their face and they want to be accepted.

I just? I’m not sure I could wax my whole face on my own if I needed it and do it well. I didn’t go to school for that. I could end up with terrible skin irritation because I did it wrong or used the wrong materials. Obviously I don’t pay people to shave my legs and things because that’s daily maintenance but the other things you mentioned? I’m not sure I could do those on my own if I needed them.

If you don’t want to do all the research to purchase a warmer, wax, sticks, and other supplies separately, you can get a kit. If you decided to get all the best products separately (because they’re all different brands and can’t be purchased at a discount in a kit) it’s a little more expensive. Anyway, the most highly rated kit (meaning most reviews so best review avg) is about 46 dollars.

I mean you’re right, it could be done at home but it still costs time and money. Once the amount of time to do it is factored in, is it more worth it to do it at home? I feel like I’d be in the bathroom all night and still fuck it up.

I feel like the key word in you argument is exorbitant. And yes it may seem exorbitant based on how you personally value the service but according to the market and comparing it to doing it at home, it’s not technically exorbitant. Women don’t choose these prices and the services are somewhat socially forced upon women. I understand your point. I just hope you can also understand that I do a lot of research on these topics not just looking at a price schedule at a salon. And I can’t speak to how your wife makes these purchases or why she feels you should make purchases a certain way but I can say that based on social norms and market value, there’s very few choices for women. You’re right we could reject those choices because they aren’t great but dude then we’d end up like hippie girls with hygiene that’s just not to the standard we like. It feels like that’s the only choice we have: pay market prices or feel not so hygienic.

I'm Italian with Russian mixed in so in the winter I have the same problem as my hair is dark but my skin is paler. I invested in my own waxing kit and I buy wax specified for sensitive skin. Try asking a salon or ordering yourself the wax that you use on bikini areas. Its a LOT more soothing. I use more of a honey based wax myself, which seems to work alright

Used to be an aesthetician and recently diagnosed. So hard waxes (the ones you don’t need to use a fabric strip on) are much less irritating to the skin and perfect for facial waxing. In order to do this at home you will need 4 things:

2. Wax... any hard wax should work but if you’re not a professional I can’t stress enough how much I would recommend using this brand and type: Satin Smooth Wild Cherry Hard Wax with Vitamin E, 14 oz. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00B5LQT7Q/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_C15TBbGC4GX7S
   The issue many beginners have with using hard wax is getting it the right consistency/temperature and many hard waxes may become brittle when drying because they were overheated. This wax becomes more of a rubbery consistency making it super easy to use.
   
3. A wax remover/baby oil to help get off any small pieces of wax that may be left over or stuck on to skin
   
4. Tongue depressors for applying the wax. Or any disposable wooden stick of your choosing. The larger the area the bigger the tool being used.
   All in all should cost you around $45-$50 to get started but is super cheap in the long run because you only need to replace the items pretty infrequently.
   Remember to ALWAYS double check the wax temp by testing a small amount on the inside of your wrist before applying it to more delicate areas. Also the wax consistency should always be around room temperature honey... if it’s any more liquid-y than that it’s too hot.

I actually just did the same thing with the same Ikea countertop. I used Osmo Polyx Hard Wax Oil, and I think it's my new favorite finish for when I want wood to feel like wood. Expensive, but a little goes a long way, and the dry times are pretty fast. Gives a decent sheen and feels great under the fingers. Not available via Amazon prime or in hardware stores though, so if time is of the essence, you might need to find it locally or consider other solutions.

When I want a more "encased" feel, I like dewaxed shellac + wipe on poly. Shellac is fast because it's dissolved solids in alcohol. Quick, cheap, and easy. You could also try spray lacquer for maximum quickness.

For the legs, I pre-drilled my holes, then stuck some 2 1/2 inch nails in to stand the wood off of the ground. (I finished the bottom first with it just sitting on the cardboard it came in.) A little unconventional, but it worked fine!

I've always waxed by myself cause I started as a poor college student, but there's definitely a learning curve. In the beginning, I'd take an Advil about an hour beforehand to help with the pain, but I don't need to do that anymore. For beginners, I would recommend sugar wax like Parissa Body Sugar because in my experience, it's a little less painful, less likely to rip off skin, washes off with soap and water in case you mess up, etc. Because it isn't as "grippy" as normal wax, it can leave some stray hairs behind, but I find the easy clean-up to be super important for DIY. You can play around with how much you want to groom - the mons and labia are going to be more sensitive and painful to wax compared to the areas further away so sometimes I'd just trim those and wax the areas that would peek over the top and sides of a bikini.

I started off using Surgi Wax Brazilian Hard Wax since you don't need any cloth strips - just apply, wait for it to harden slightly and then rip off. I switched to Parissa Strip-Free Hot Wax at some point in college since I didn't have a microwave and only my wax warmer, and it was roughly the same. The issue with strip-free wax is if it's too hard, it's a BITCH to deal with and the only way to get it off is to either cut the hair or melt the wax (owww..) I've also tried the Parissa Warm Wax which uses cloth strips that you rip while the wax is still warm and pliable, and I think this was definitely the application result that yielded the smoothest results. The strip-free wax would only reliably grip hair longer than 0.25", but this one seemed to get it all. If you go to a professional, they'll probably use the warm wax with strips and you'll have really smooth results. (You also don't have to deal with the anxiety of pulling the hair off yourself if you go to someone. :D) These waxes are difficult to clean though. You basically have to wait until they harden so you can chip them off like candle wax or apply oil to loosen it.

I have dark (but peach fuzz fine) upper lip hair. I've had wonderful results with these.
I think if your hair is thick they may not work too great, but this is my go to brand. The strip is super soft and flexible. I usually tear the strip on half before warming it up with my hands giving me 4 pieces. By cutting them in smaller pieces I'm better able to position the strip to target all the small areas. Also, they don't need to be warned up all that much. Over melting the wax causes the strip to separate, leaving the wax behind on your lip. If this happens, don't worry, coconut oil or jajoba oil works wonders in removing wax left behind.

I've used nads mostly because name made me laugh. Then I realized how easy it was to use and how convenient to just do it myself. Easier and faster than plucking and never had an issue.

I do my eyebrows too. It works great!

If I'm really lazy (which happens more than I'd like to admit) I grab my husband's razer and just do a quick once over the sides so I don't show off my amazing mustache!

Sorry you have to deal with that, it seems we have the opposite problem. In the meantime would maybe waxing work for you? It generally works for a lot longer than shaving does, and imho the only way to burn yourself or have it hurt is to make it super hot. It should be just warm enough for you to touch and have it harden immediately. You can get one of the little kits for eyebrows and the upper lip, or you can get a cheap waxing kit off Amazon. I fucked up my eyebrow once on accident and I have crazy-thick eyebrow hairs, so it might work for you. Being ftm, I can tell you that most women don’t shave their face, it’s really the one thing that isn’t shaved. Hopefully that helps you out, I’m more than happy to help as best I can.

Edit: This is what I have It’s a nice little wax warmer that comes with a ton of wax and pretty clear instructions. And you don’t need waxing strips or anything for the wax that comes with it either.

For me, it's pretty easy to do it on my legs, underarms, and the outer and upper bikini areas. But it's nearly impossible for me to wax the lower part (labia majora) on my own. It's best if you pull your skin taut while waxing, which is kind of hard to do on that area of the body. That part is also just super sensitive, so I always end up psyching myself out if I try to do it on my own; that's why I like having somebody else do it for me. They do it quickly and just get it over with. Plus they get the butt strip too, which is hard to get on your own.

If you do decide to do it yourself, I would recommend using the pre-waxed strips (like these) that you just rub to warm up, then apply. I've found that they're much easier, cleaner, and less painful than both stripless wax or the kind where you apply wax then the paper.

Edit: A quick word of advice - don't use something like Nair before or after waxing!! I made that mistake once, and ended up with blisters and scabs all over my bikini area. Not sexy!

To be honest, the type of wax contributes to the pain level pretty significantly. I have gone to get it "professionally" done and ended up bruised and with some lingering hair that they missed...and out 45 dollars.
I got a home kit that was the same thing: it hurt like crazy, bruised me, and the wax wouldn't come all the way off, so I walked around with this weird sticky feeling around my junk.

The problem, I found out, is that most salons and home kits use soft wax, which is the gooey stuff you need cloth strips to rip off your skin. I had a friend recommend hard wax instead, and I was skeptical, but she told me it was way worth it.

I was totally shocked at how much better it was. It took a bit of practice to get it right, but totally worth it. The wax doesn't stick to your skin as much as the soft wax, it's way easier to rip off, and it doesn't hurt very much. I should qualify that, it DOES hurt, but it isn't bad at all. The trick is to do it in small patches at a time, and because you wait for the wax to harden on your skin, you can prep multiple places at once. Plus since you pull the wax itself off, you don't have to worry about running out of cloth strips.

The trickiest part is figuring out how to reach certain places, but once you get a little flexible it's great. Smooth skin, no red bumps like with shaving, and the hair grows back "thinner" as time goes on. It might be cheaper than shaving too, especially if you use disposable razors, but I'm not sure.

The downside is that it takes way more time than shaving, and a lot more patience and prep work (heating up the wax, prepping skin, etc).

It really doesn't hurt at all. It's not like plucking or sticky wax with cloth strips. This is hard wax that does not stick to the skin at all. If you want to go clean, use this or get it professionally done at a day spa.

However, I don't really think you need to get rid of the hair at all, unless that's what your gf particularly wants. I love rimming and never mind some hair there at all, as long as it is scrupulously clean.

I started with my brows. It hurts... but it's a good hurt! (It only really hurts for about 2-5 seconds. Then it's just a little achey after.) I got some of the ready to use waxing strips for my brows, tried one on my leg and it wasn't bad at all! I'm going to order this because hot wax is the best ever. Also does a much better job than the little strips like these.

I've been using a GiGi Mini Pro Waxing Kit for years. It is the same one that they used at the salon that I used to go to. Never done a brazilian with it, but my experience with it in general has been great. Only thing is, the Creme wax that it comes with the kit isn't great - their honey wax is better. But the Creme wax still gets the job done, it's just a little harder to work with. It's pricier than wax strips but has much better results, and one tub of wax will last you for months or years.

I bought one of these last year and have LOVED it. With that type of wax you don't have to worry about the strips. Just smooth it on and rip it off.

It's much more reliable temperature wise than microwavable waxes too. :)

I think this is difficult to answer because there's conflicting information everywhere.

Personally, I think it depends on what the product is, how quickly you use it and how you use it. For products that are light-sensitive such as Vitamin C serums, yea. I fully believe that jar packaging renders it ineffective. It's also why people do their best to keep OST C20/21 in the box, in the fridge etc. For me, I'll usually decant products such as these into airless or opaque packaging or simply choose something like Drunk Elephant C-Firma Vitamin C Serum which comes in an opaque vacuum pump.

However, for regular products such as moisturizers, I've given up on avoiding them just because of jar packaging because I use a clean spatula each time I dip into a product (also cuz I have long nails and getting it under my nails is gross) and I go through cream pretty quickly.

Here's my spatula setup. I actually purchased a bunch of little spatulas from Amazon and keep the clean ones in a small jar from IKEA and toss the used ones in a small shot glass. Then wash and repeat. I think I use at least 5 spatulas a day!

Have you ever tried "Nad's?" They are at-home heat free wax strips. They work pretty well.

We got some Cirepril hard wax, a good heater and watched some videos. There were some hilarious (and painful!) incidents as part of our learning process, but it's been really positive.

If you wax it will be a little painful at first but so smooth and wonderful for weeks and weeks. Surgi-wax is your friend!

I recommend nads hypoallergenic facial wax strips. They're pretty dang awesome.

Yes, I wax my chest and stomach bc I have a happy trail 😩. Waxing hurts but it last 8 weeks for me and now the hair grows back really thin and some spots don't grow back at all.

I went to a salon initially but now I use the Sally Hansen All Over Body Wax Kit . It's super easy to use and you can use that if you're nervous about going to a salon.

I use this Sally Hansen waxing kit, mainly because I can find it at most grocery stores. It has low reviews on Amazon, but it's worked perfectly for me when it comes to chest waxing.

Just a warning. It does have a mild feminine a scent to it. I personally don't mind it.

Also, if you do purchase a product like this. I recommend heating the jar of wax in a sink of warm water, instead of using the microwave.

FYI I bought the Smiley Daisy Hibiscus based on this link, and I was completely underwhelmed. It would only fill about a 10x15 room with scent. When I placed the unit in my kitchen, I couldn't even smell the oils though the house.

I returned the Hibiscus and ordered the Zen Breeze instead

Much better reviews on square footage coverage for only $10 more

If you want a diffuser to cover as much area as the Hibiscus just get the Seneo for a fraction of the price

Tips for next time (if there is one):

• Buzz the hair first, so it is between .5 to 2 inches.
  
• Clean the area, and your hands!
  
• Start from the outside, like a jigsaw puzzle.
  
• Apply small patches of wax with the grain.
  
• Pull against the grain.
  
• Immediately apply pressure to the (now hairless) spot to ease any pain.
  
• Use strip wax; it's by far the easiest to do on yourself.
  
• Use a light toner, and optional cooling gel afterwards.
  
  The reason why he still has hairs (and probably hurt like a maniac), is because it wasn't done correctly and just broke off the hairs instead of ripping them out. Tell him to use gentle soaps for a while, and some coconut oil or scentless, light moisturizer to heal. Don't wear tight clothes, and don't touch it!! He's going to be super prone to zits/ingrown hairs for the next 12 hours now.

I got these and they work better than most wax strips for me. They clean up easily, and didn't irritate my skin too much. I'll take what I can get!

You should get yourself this waxing kit. Pamper yourself a little and your SO will also benefit and you will save money in the long run on waxing appointments :D

I use Gigi's Brazilian hard wax. You can order the kit on Amazon for about $40. It comes with the Brazilian wax, the wax warmer, a nice amount of wooden sticks, and pre-epilation oil which really helps with the waxing process. It's sooo worth it. I've recommended the kit to a couple of girlfriends and they are very pleased with it. It is difficult at first, but I totally suggest reading tips from the Amazon reviews so you become familiar with it. Here is the link:

I'm not sure if you mentioned that you've had them done professionally in the past, but do go at least once or twice to a reputable waxer so you'll have an idea of what to expect, regarding pain. Try to wax or get waxed a week or so right after you finish your period (it tends to be most painful before or right after your monthly.)

• it WILL take a while to do yourself. 2 hours at least. Be ready. Have some music, or netflix in the background, as others have said.
  
  
• a small mirror is very useful to have!
  
  
• placing newspaper or paper towels on/around your work space is a good idea to avoid wax getting everywhere
  
  
• it will be difficult to wax your back door yourself. I've tried and injured myself, so I tend to leave that area alone when i self-wax. I'm OK with that..
  
  
• wax small portions at a time! it's less painful to rip off, and if you eff up and let the wax harden too much, or put too little wax, or too much, it's easier to deal with a small strip than painstakingly yanking off one ginormous chunk

The only at-home wax I've EVER gotten to work (tried many) is Surgi. This one is amazing for bikini line, but I'm betting it'd be effective on legs too.

My wife showed me this and really likes it. I saw it and didn't see anything that looked complicated. I want to try something like this using $40 sheet plywood first. All I see are dados and routing. Some of the vanities have veneer which might be tricky...

These vanities cost $500-700 a linear foot! After she told me that, I said that I'd rather try building them myself.

I would never use creams or shave, myself, but I wanted to know what made you rule those out as well. I just didn’t see risking the wax every time to be worth it.
Hot wax is what I use too! I wish I could go to a professional, it would be so much faster...

I have a kit a lot like this one and have had it for years, and have never run out of wax. It takes a while to get the hang of it, and you're probably gonna wax off more than you intended at first, so make sure you've got a good brow pencil handy! But once you've got it down, you'll wonder why you ever paid anyone to do it.

Two bits of help:
1: Get a Lady Gillette or a similarly long handled razor. You're going to want to get that kind of Leverage as there are a ton of curves down there and dancing around to get the right angel will result in a nasty nick.

2: Home waxing kits like this aren't half bad. My Fiancee uses them regularly.

Instead of traditional incense, you can use an electric wax melter and Essential Oils. Basically, instead of putting wax in the top section to melt down, you put a small amount of water in it, then drip essential oils, or fragrance oils, into the water. Of course, you could always just get different wax tarts with the herbal scents you want instead, as well.


Or, you can use a steam diffuser like this one to heat up the essential oils. It creates steam, so you can have the visual cue of a "smoke" without breaking the rules.

Well, you can use a double boiler to do that. I use on of these for my clay. Heats it up evenly and gets it liquid pretty quick.

Seconded. Nads facial wand is the best thing for eyebrows/upper lip that I have ever found. The only drawback is that they run out fairly quickly.

Surgi-Wax is a great at home treatment kit, I use it all the time.

I use these sugar facial hair removal strips. They're really easy to use, you wash the area where you're removing hair (so it grabs the hair and not the oil on yor face), warm the strips up between your palms or behind your knee for a couple minutes, peel the strips apart, apply to the hairy area, brace yourself and pull! It stings but it's not horrible, and it's probably a lot less work than trying to use wax yourself. After a while, the hairs grow less.

I found these. I don’t personally use it (not hairy enough and I’m lazy) but I think that’s what you want to use. There’s heaps of videos on YouTube about it.

You should also invest in one of those back shavers for men. They look handy dandy for those hard to get places :)

You can try pre-waxed strips like those which are available in large supermarkets in the hair removal/razor section. Many different brands make them.

You rub the strips between your hands to warm them up so you don't have to microwave anything in the kitchen.

I use the Eco Tools Powder brush $10 at ulta. For a heavier application use a dense flat top brush like this one

Waxing isn’t a big deal. I encourage you to find a local waxing salon the first 2-3 times. So you have an idea of how the process goes. Once you have an idea a basic kit is cheap .

A can of wax is about 15$. Takes about an hour once you get the hang of it and lasts about 3 weeks. Way smoother, less irritation and ingrowns.

Just remember you want HARD stripless for the below the belt areas. And powder everything before hand.

I really like nads but sometimes I'm lazy and just shave it like a man would.

I started with this one because I didn't want to invest the $40-$50 bucks in a warmer kit if I was terrible at it and it hurt way worse. After doing it a few times, I'm def buying a warmer pot because you do have to microwave those a few times in the process since it starts to harden. Luckily its only $15 so if you hate it, you haven't lost much. I'm sure you could even find 1 box at a store for like $7 or $8. I'm just spoiled by amazons fast delivery. :)

My OH has a thick dark mono brow which i wax for him using microwave hot wax. This is the stuff I use on him. I wax his eyebrow once a month(ish) and it takes seconds (not counting the time it takes to heat the wax. The small tub has lasted over a year. If you use an orange stick (the kind you use for manicures) you can apply it more neatly and you don't have to use any strips. I also use it to neaten up my eyebrows occasionally and i don't have a problem using it on myself. My husband finds it hurts/is annoying much less than plucking (or having me pluck) and he is a complete baby about pain.

Here is the kit I bought. Hard wax works well for me. I've had it for about 3 or 4 years now and need to seriously consider replacing the warmer. It works but the temp control is kind of messed up now.
