In my last semester of high school, I took a financial literacy course that followed Dave Ramsey's guidelines for what he refers to as 'financial peace'. In combination with Buddhist sensibilities I picked up from a year of being intensely Buddhist in like, the tenth grade, I've come to recognize that mindful spending puts my priorities first. It's like I have two halves of myself: one is desperate for new purchases, the other fully recognizes that I have responsibilities with my money that, even though I'm young, I've made a commitment to - growing a savings account for emergencies when I'm not working during college, donating money to my church to help build a new sanctuary. These priorities are beginning to win out over my tendency to buy and buy and buy.

I think the reason I shop so intently is because I have a sheer, unadulterated love of beauty. In my mind, the type of clothes, the type of make-up, and the type of home decor I like is so bohemian, enchanting, ethereal, and exquisite. By the power of association, I feel like these items will also make me bohemian, enchanting, ethereal, and exquisite.

On top of that, I also love searching for discounted items I know are still retailing for full price. For instance, the All I Need Blouse from Free People is available at Nordstrom Rack for $69.97 and is full price at $168 on Free People's website. It found that top for almost $100 off! It's a great deal, right? In comparison, I guess so, but in reality, I still don't have $70 to spend on a shirt at the stage of my life I'm in.

I utilize shopping as a way to release creative emotions. I find items, and, in my head, style whole outfits around them; I aggressively bargain shop in the excitable heat of looking for what I love for less. At the same time, it's be a shameful amount of months since I've written a blog post or done a DIY, and I haven't even begun to figure out the YouTube channel I'm daydreaming of starting. I need to reinvest my creative energy into my actual creative pursuits. I have a lot of it, which I something I cherish about myself. I know I shouldn't let it languish staring at HauteLook.

There's also a blog I love called Free People for Less, of which the title is self-explanatory. I think I may start some sort of blog that accomplishes similar things, finding discounted bohemian clothing and natural beauty items and posting them so that even if I can't buy, I can help someone else do so.

There's always things I want that I don't need. Right now, Free People is running a sale where they have a a wide variety of bottoms and tops at or under $29.95. In my cart right now, I have the We the Free Mix It Stripe Tee in Ivory/Black, the Easy Girl Printed Top in Garnet, the David Bowie Tunic in White, and the Jump In Like Skirt in Hendrix. Are these all things I would wear? Absolutely, but I don't have the closet space or the spending money to buy them, so I'm holding out that this sale lasts the whole summer.

At the very top of my I Wear This In My Dreams wishlist is the Penny Lane Embroidered Vest from Spell Designs. I must have stared at this product listing a thousand times. It's about $300 USD, so it's impossibly out of my grasp, but how breathtaking is the embroidery? The colors? The craftsmanship? The faux fur?

However, here's what I'm actually saving for. I'll buy these products as soon as I have the money for them, which may be this month.

The Levi''s Wedgie Icon High Rise, in both of the colors offered, Classic Tint and Coyote Desert. Believe it or not, Free People is the most inexpensive place to purchase these jeans. I love the fit and the frayed hem. I have seriously discounted the amount of jeans I owned and am looking to invest in more high-quality jeans that will last me all of college and some time after.

The Instyler Max 2-Way Rotating Iron in Purple. I'm looking at this hair tool as a quality investment I can use on my new lob to style it the way that I want it, as well as have one single hot tool I can use for just about everything in college.

The Aloha Embroidered Bag from Spell Designs. This bag is something I need for college, to carry my laptop, my iPad, and maybe a binder to and from class around campus. While this bag is beautiful (fringe! embroidery! silk! peach! ivory!) and represents my style and sensibility very well, at $68 USD it's far less than similar bags I've been looking at purchasing.

Sorry for the ridiculously long response, but I'm having a lot of fun so far!

So you could do either blow dry straightening, which is my favorite since it looks more natural and gives the hair more movement and body, or regular flat ironing. Blow drying it straight takes a bit of practice to get the technique down right, but it's a nice thing to learn if you have the time and patience. Everyone is different, but I think it usually looks much nicer blown out than flat ironed.

I've never heard of that brand before, and I think for $40 you can get the HSI which I've heard really good things about. A quick look on Amazon's page for the one you linked shows really varied reviews for it. Personally, I'd be wary of it, but I'm the kind of person that likes to go with stuff that's got a good following/significant feedback.

Never flat iron wet or damp hair! You'll burn it. Wait until it's completely dry before ironing. You need to always use a heat protectant of some kind. The have spray kinds that are much lighter weight than creams or lotions, and my favorites are Nexxus' and Suave's spray protectors. They smell nice and don't leave any residue on my hair. Your hair looks like it's at that weird in-between length where it's going to flip out because of it laying against your shoulders. You might want to get some kind of setting spray to try and keep it from flipping out again after you style it. You mention frizz as well, so I'd pick up a leave in conditioner to help smooth that down and keep it at bay. I love Suave's Keratin Infusion leave in. It's super cheap, smells great, and works way better than it has any right too. I haven't had a single flyaway since I started using it.

Since your hair is on the thinner side, you should be using one of the lowest settings. Even my curly, thickish hair only takes about 250-290 degrees to flat iron it pin straight. At the very least, never go over 320, which is usually about the middle setting. After that point it's pretty much overkill on anyone without really coarse hair.

And lastly, any type of heat is going to damage it. The protectant, lower heat setting, and generally just taking care and not straightening it every day is going to prevent it from getting too bad. Regular trims will help keep it looking nice, and you should be deep conditioning and using moisturizing shampoos to stave off dryness from the heat tools.

Having the aluminum against the back of the hair straightener plate will keep you from smashing those wire leads and allow you to put more pressure.

And thats it. At first i used jb weld to hold my plates to each other but found that metal wire (with slots cut into everything to make the wire stay in place and the plates to meet flush) was far easier. Only tool i really used was a dremel and of course my laser thermometer to constantly check accuracy of the temps. I get great results with this setup and it was super cheap. I can post pics of mine if you want. Got it zip tied to the inside of a milk crate to make it portable and stand upright on its own. It looks pretty rough but works great.

Edit. ... personal opinion here ..... but beware of builds using arbor presses, yeah they work, but for my money its easier to twist that 5 inch vise tight really hard then wait and watch the timer...... vs having to stand there with all my weight leaning on an arbor press handle for 60 seconds at a time to keep pressure on. That yost 5 inch vise gives me better returns than i got from an arbor press and it's less work.

I have this only, with a red handle, that I use as my basic curling iron. Cheap, you say? Yes. But it works very well, and it gets the job done.

This guy is my hair dryer. I rarely use it, but when I do, it does very well. The hot setting is pretty hot, though. I tend to stick to low.

My mother bought me this straightener a couple years ago, but I rarely use it, preferring this one that I've had for YEARS. Well that's the newest version of the same one. I like the grip on my old one better.

DO NOT FORGET TO USE THIS. It is a life-saver. Hair-saver. Whatever.

BONUS TIME:

I've found that curling or straightening my hair the night before is the best, and then putting my hair in one of these keeps it well-behaved and styled for the next day.

If I want a particularly long curly day, I do have clip in extensions that match my color/texture (fine instead coarse which is what a lot of cheaper extensions end up being) and I've curled the extensions with heat to match my curl pattern. My curls aren't quite as tight as yours (mine are more 3b), but it's pretty darn close. It's not perfect, but it works. It's a bit of trick though because it obviously adds volume to your natural hair, and to do clip-ins you have to separate curls to get them in, so you might end up with some frizzies in your natural hair.

This isn't the exact straightener I use to curl the extensions, but it's pretty similar. Really any half inch tourmaline or ceramic straightener should do it. All you have to do it curl it like a ribbon and your natural ringlets should match pretty close to the curl pattern.

The clip in extensions don't have to be washed often/ever depending on how much you use them. JUST MAKE SURE you get real human hair. If you try to use any heat onto synthetic hair it will melt.

I have long, thick, curly hair and went through a period of about 2 years where I straightened my hair everyday if I wasn't wearing it up. I had a cheap, crappy flatiron from Sally Beauty. My hair was fried. I saved up and bought a ceramic one (not a Chi, but it was still over $100) and it made a HUGE difference in the time it took to straighten my hair, the texture and the overall appearance of my hair.

I gave that flat iron to a friend 2 or 3 years ago (I bought it in 2004) and it is still going strong. I thing it was Ion brand? If I were to buy one now, I would get one of these. They get consistently good reviews, they are in mid-price range and since I don't really wear my hair straight anymore, it seems like a decent investment.

That said, how do you blow your hair out? I only get blow outs when I get a haircut- I need a third hand to get my hair straight w/ a blowdryer!

I actually have a lot of pictures from when it was shorter, and looking at them the last few months I look kind of stupid hehe. Can't believe I actually thought I looked good. Of course, I'm sure that's something I'll be saying a few months from now as well. Anyways, how short do you want to see? I have a few from when it was close to a buzz and others when I started growing it out like 2nd month, 6th month, 8th 7th month. Personally I think it's looking better as it grows out more, and now I'm trying to grow out the sides as well.

My routine is pretty relaxed, I shampooed my hair last week for the first time in months because my mom and I tried using a mayonnaise hair mask treatment which worked REALLY well (get about 4 table spoons of mayonnaise and add 1 teaspoon of argan or olive oil and leave in hair for an hour in a plastic cap/bag) and I've also been using this conditioner for the past week, my mom was able to find it at Marshall's for pretty cheap ($10 each for both shampoo/conditioner 26 oz bottles). I've only been using it for 2 days but it feels GREAT.

I condition every two days depending on whether or not I tossed and turned too much while I was sleeping--which I tend to do. Then I squish out any excess water with a cotton tee and put in some of this leave-in which leaves my hair really well defined and incredibly light weight, gives crazy nice volume without sacrificing too much definition. Then I finish it off by putting a tiny bit of this argan oil. Let it dry using either a diffuser or head dryer and then turn my head over and squish it a little to give it volume. I'm a simple person so simple routines are a must!

As far as products to combat dryness, look into the Shea Moisture line of products. They have a really great mask for dry hair - manuka honey & yogurt. I tried it out a few months ago when I was having trouble with dry hair and it was an absolute lifesaver. Another tip is to try and use sulfate-free and silicone-free products, and limit use of shampoo. You can co-wash with conditioner a few times a week, and shampoo about once a week. I've been doing that for a few weeks and I see a noticeable difference in the feel of my hair. You can check out r/curlyhair too - they have a lot of great info for people with thick, wavy/curly hair :)

/u/CaptainBadKid said it pretty well. Harbor freight has arbor presses for pretty cheap. There's a ton of good info on /r/rosin, as well. Here's a $120 build that's pretty good and I'm sure you could cut some corners if you had to. I've heard of people not even using custom plates and just using the plates from the hair straightener though that will break eventually.

Here's the straightener I use which apparently doesn't have wires behind the plate which is good, though you might want to get one with a digital readout. You can also use vise grips if you really want to cheap out and you're only doing small personal runs. Like so.

I finally bit the bullet today and after 40 years of fighting gray hair, decided no more dying! I waited until about 3-4 inches of silver/gray roots grew out, and went and got an uber-short pixie cut. I freaking love it. So liberating to no longer by L'Oreal's slave every two weeks!

20 year bang veteran here, your concerns are so valid.

First, I get a bang trim right before leaving for Forest. Freshly trimmed bangs just lay neater for me, so they don't require quite as much coiffing to look good.

Second, dry shampoo. Lush's dry shampoo is too heavy duty for everyday, but I live by it for festivals. I generally don't wash my hair during the festival because its not worth the effort, but you can wash your bangs with a bottle of water pretty easily also.

Third, I use this tiny hair straightener that plugs into your car cigarette lighter. I'm generally low maintenance at festivals so this seems a little over-the-top even to me, but its a price I'm willing to pay to not have wonky bangs. It's not powerful enough to straighten all my hair, but it does a good enough job with my bangs.z

I did a lot of research on hair straighteners like 4 years ago when I bought mine, so my knowledge might be a little outdated at this point, but I ended up getting a Croc hair straightener, and though I don't straighten my hair very much anymore, I thought it was great, especially since (at least at the time, I don't know about now), the comparable CHI ones were more expensive.

Plenty of the reviews from people who owned both Croc and CHI said they preferred the Croc, so that's also part of why I bought it.
I actually have owned 2 of these. My first one I took to Africa, and didn't use a voltage adapter with it, and I think that's what burned it out (it stopped working and would make a smell like it was burning if I plugged it in). I haven't had any problems with my second one.

Previous to owning the Croc, I had a couple crappy ones, and thought my Revlon was fine and that it was just my hair that didn't like to straighten, but after getting a good one I realized the difference it makes. And being able to control the temperature (in degrees too) is amazing as well. I also noticed that I can straighten my hair way faster with this one and I don't have to keep going over it many times to get it to straighten out well.

From what you're describing, it sounds like my best friend has very similar hair and she swears by the CHI straightener. I've used it before too and it's worked a lot better than many other straighteners that I've used in the past. It's in your price range, too :) Hope this helps.

I'm in need of a replacement as well. I'm currently between deciding on this one, which is listed on Amazon for $44 when the list price is $300 (and great reviews!), and this one, listed on Amazon for $39 when the list price is $49 (also great reviews!). I live in Florida so the second one's humidity resistance feature is the biggest draw for me, but a straightener that's worth $300 for $45 is very hard to pass up. Welcome to long term food prepping!

I embarked on the long term food storage (dry goods) not too long ago and have recently completed the trial & error phase. I am now laying waste to my monthly food budget and have begun to really get my food storages moving forward.

Right now I am concentrating on the following:

• Pasta (Elbows, Penne, Egg Noodles, etc.)
  
• White Rice (Long Grain Enriched & Jasmine)
  
• Beans (Pinto, Black, Black Eye Peas, etc.)
  
• Rolled Oats
  
  All of the above I am purchasing in bulk and on sale where possible and packaging them myself.
  
  I am purchasing the rices & pinto beans at Sam's Club (Best prices I found near me) and the rest I am purchasing either when on sale or at the local discount food grocery store. I have found the elbow pasta at Sam's club is pretty cheap, while most of the other pastas are more expensive than other stores.
  
  So far pasta, rices & pinto beans make up the majority of my dry long term storage and will likely remain this way unless I find an awesome sale on other items in the future.

  When comes to packaging, I am going a slightly different route than others have recommended in the past. Many articles and forum posts advocate using 5 gallon mylar bag + 5 gallon bucket + bucket lid and storing one food item per bucket.
  
  The above is certainly simple and may even be cheaper, but I have a hard time envisioning a scenario where I would want to crack open a 5 gallon bucket of Pinto beans or rice...5 gallons is a lot of food, especially on small dense items like rice and beans.
  
  There is also the issue of seal failure or puncture, when storing 5 gallons at a time you could loose a lot of food due to a single failure.
  
  I have chosen the route of a lot of smaller bags as opposed to fewer larger.
  
  I am using 1 gallon Mylar bags (7.5 mil thickness), 500-600CC Oxygen Absorbers (per bag), 2-3lb of food (per bag) and sealing the bag with a hair straightener.

  When I first started I used cheaper, thinner Mylar bags and honestly it was nothing more than a complete waste of time. I had issues with bags holding seal, punctures by the food items, light could easily passthrough and overall they just sucked.
  
  Once I moved to the 7.5 mil thickness Mylar bags I have had nearly no issues beyond failures due to me not taking enough time sealing the bags with the hair straightener...I can't stress enough, take your time sealing otherwise you will get to the joy of doing it all over again.
  
  I usually seal twice the width of the hair straightener and ensure I squeeze the vast majority of the air out of each bag before you completely seal it. I have begun using two ~2" wide boards with 2 rubber bands around each end sandwiching the Mylar bag "mouth" between the two. It allows me to easily squeeze the air out and helps keep the opening in place while I seal with the iron - I can take a picture if that doesn't make sense.

  In the future I may be ordering from Augason Farms (https://www.augasonfarms.com/) via Walmart.com/Samsclub.com for items I haven't been able to easily source locally (Wheat, Tomato Powder, etc.), however I will try to source things locally where possible assuming it doesn't exceed their prices...but in general Augason isn't the cheapest place, but when they are on sale on Walmart.com they can be a decent deal.
  
  ANY food you purchase prepackaged, please double-check it before you slap it on the shelf. There are plenty of posts here about many companies selling prepackaged food with bad seals, punctured bags, etc.

I'm going on 4 years now and here is my daily routine:

1. shower/brush teeth/wet stuff/etc
   
2. using a comb and a blow dryer on high heat/low fan, heat my stache and gently pull the comb through it to remove debris
   
3. using a moustache/beard brush and the blow dryer on high heat/low fan, I brush each side out vigourously
   
4. I use a mini flat iron http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001T0HHAG before it gets completely hot to iron the kinked hairs into a nice orderly curl
   
5. I heat a bit of handlebars or wild oregon hair moustache wax with the blow dryer and apply it to my moustache
   
6. enjoy compliments
   

I am also in the market. I was just looking at straighteners on Amazon and the CHI doesn't have the best reviews. I found one I'm going to try- it's the HSI straightener and it has rave reviews (over 11k and almost 5 stars) Amazon is selling the older model of it for $40 (marked down from $200) so I thought it would be worth a try and easy enough to return on Amazon if it doesn't work. I currently have a pro solia that does not straighten my waves. I'm like you- super course thick wavy hair.

EDIT- from what my hair stylist tells me, the CHI was good if you bought it a few years ago, but as they've gained popularity and mass produced, their products don't work as well.

Why don't you try this one? Now, keep in mind that that this is not a Paul Mitchell or Chi so it's not going to be perfect, but I owned one before I bought my Paul Mitchell and it did a pretty great job for the price. My hair is very coarse, frizzy, and poofy. It would hold it's straightness throughout the day with a little hairspray and some heat protectant spray.

I use the Jilbere Palladium Ceramic flatiron I'm mixed, my hair is buttlength and curly and coarse. I got it from Sally Beauty Supply but i'm not sure they still sell them.

I love it because it gets up to 465 degrees and the little comb on the side (which you can put on either side of the flatiron, or remove completely) keeps my hair from snagging and helps smooth my ends.I bought one years ago and it broke after i dropped it on the stone floor at my parents' house, but i had the extended warranty and they sent me a new one which i've had for probably 8 years now.

The other flatiron i have (which i bought in a pinch when the jilbere was awaiting replacement) is actually a much more budget-friendly option. Its the Remington Wet2Straight which i picked up at walmart I'm sure for like $30 or less. It doesn't get as hot as the Jilbere, nor does it have the comb, but my hair just feels really polished when I use it, and I don't have to blowdry my hair as completely dry (which takes FOREVER for me) because this has little vents for the steam.

Seriously, go 10 dollars over budget and get an HSI Flat Iron. I bought one recently, and my God it is amazing. By far the best flat iron I've ever used, and it's so freaking cheap.

Read some reviews if you don't believe me. But this will be your best hair decision yet. Promise.

I have this flat iron and I love it. I either curl my hair with a flat iron or use a larger barrel curling wand for "beachy" looking waves. The size of the barrel/flat iron depend on what you want the curls to look like. here's what I mean.


Definitely youtube will help. Also, just practice a few times when you're not in a hurry/getting ready in the morning. It's not as intimidating as it seems!

The straightener works really well and there’s a cool feature where you can turn on the straighten and curl at the same time to do a wavy look. The Andis ceramic is the one I have. It's incredible. I've owned plenty of really cheap straighteners, and then I bought one of these on a recommendation. I still consider it a cheap one, but it works wonderfully! At least as good as many of the much more expensive ones. Also, I've had it for about 6 years, dropped it tons, gotten it wet, and in general been not a very good owner and it still works and looks like the day I got it.

But it'll pay for itself if you're going to the salon even 1-2 times a year. It's great quality for the price and in this case would be worth it for you. And far from $100-200! I have thick, frizzy, curly hair and in less than 30 minutes this gets my hair stick straight. Therefore saving you time too :) hope this helps!

I have one of these and it works great, I have no complaints. I pretty much picked the one with the best reviews on amazon. Maybe coming from a chi you wouldn't like it, but having never used a really expensive one, I love it.

I had the original Chi for like 10 years and eventually the wire had broken so much that I decided it was a fire hazard. There was electrical tape involved. I've heard the newer Chi's are not nearly as good.

I have this straightener now and I love it. $30 and works perfectly. Super lightweight too.

I have 3b super curly hair and I usually only have to brush my hair dry and run it through once to get it as straight as it will go. And as everyone said heat protectant! But I have never seen people mention the heat setting, I use the HSI one at 350° or lower and it only takes one glide through and I have had no damage at all to my curls.

I use this every single day and have used it since it was delivered late April 2017. I bought it based off reviews but also international travel. The thing has worked flawlessly. I've been flat ironing my hair since high school and I'm 31 now. I've gone through a number of them and this is by far my favorite one.

For me, it's a tie between the filtered water pitcher (because our water is really crappy) or the hair straightener (because the cracks in my old one are snagging/breaking my hairs).

There are a multitude of bud-to-concentrate extraction processes and some are surprisingly cheap. You simply dilute the concentrate with a thinner to make cartridge oil.

For ease, speed and cheapness, I suggest you make some rosin concentrate from bud, then dilute it with a terpene like d-limonene to turn it into cartridge oil. If you're making rosin only for home use you can use a hair straightener with temperature control for pressing. That method works surprisingly well for small-scale home production. There are plenty of YouTube videos on the process. See r/rosin for more info on rosin pressing methods. Be forewarned that a except for the hair straightener method, most other rosin press methods get expensive. BTW, rosin pressing is solventless and maintains all the terpenes of the original bud.

Finally, I suggest decarboxylating your bud or concentrate to kill mold and to make the THC more readily available during vaping.

im fairly certain its the original 1" with just the on-off switch. my sister has one where you pick the temp and she has issues with it.

Im using this mini straightener I really don’t use beard oil or conditioner to make it soft, I only wash it every other day with loreal sulfate free shampoo so the next day when I dont wash it it gets the oil naturally from my skin.

I have a little butane powered straightening iron and while it in no way is as good as an electric one it does the job (albeit slowly). The butane lasts forever too because I only use it at festivals.

Remington wet2straight on low setting. If you use a heat gun, it should show around 200-250. I use this one and it works well. Costs about twenty bucks.

If you want to go the extra mile, and honestly get 5-10% more yield, get a 600lb irwin clamp for another twenty bucks.
