WANTS:
WHAT I WOULD GIVE:
1.) Something that is grey.
Silver is grey, right? ;)
2.) Something reminiscent of rain.
When I think of rain I think of cuddling up with a good cup of coffee.
3.) Something food related that is unusual.
Coffee chocolate Not that weird... but pretty amazing.
4.) Something on your list that is for someone other than yourself. Tell me who it's for and why. (Yes, pets count!)
Bones for my dog because he hates being alone!
5.) A book I should read! I am an avid reader, so take your best shot and tell me why I need to read it!
I haven't read this yet, but it's supposed to be amazing!
6.) An item that is less than a dollar, including shipping... that is not jewelry, nail polish, and or hair related!
This book
7.) Something related to cats. I love cats! (keep this SFW, you know who you are...)
meow.
8.) Something that is not useful, but so beautiful you must have it.
I don't think any nail polish is useful, but I love this color
9.) A movie everyone should watch at least once in their life. Why?
Shawshank Redemption Come on, it's amazing. And sad. And Stephen King.
10.) Something that would be useful when the zombies attack. Explain.
These would be particularly useful because I could keep my hair out of my face so I can see zombies better to kill them!
11.) Something that would have a profound impact on your life and help you to achieve your current goals.
skip for now
12.) One of those pesky Add-On items.
Apparently you can straighten your nose with this interesting little item Ohhhh, China.
13.) The most expensive thing on your list. Your dream item. Why?
This book is the most expensive item on my list. Dream item? Nah. A kindle would be my dream item, but not feasible to have on list right now.
14.) Something bigger than a bread box.
This big enough?
15.) Something smaller than a golf ball.
This ring is itty bitty!
16.) Something that smells wonderful.
This air freshener. Mmmm
17.) A (SFW) toy.
Amazon lists this as a toy, so I'm going to have to go with that!
18.) Something that would be helpful for going back to school.
These would be great to hang papers and reminders up on the fridge.
19.) Something related to your current obsession, whatever that may be.
I'm obsessed with books, so uh... most of my wish list. Or this bookmark that symbolizes all that is books.
20.) Something that is just so amazing and awe-inspiring that I simply must see it. Explain why it is so grand.
I'm sure you've seen this but come on! It's John Snuhhhh!
Bonus! Oregon Fruit
Fear cuts deeper thank swords! Thanks for the contest. =)
SPIN PINS. They are the miracle you've been waiting for. I have mid-length thin hair, but they were recommended to me by a former coworker with the waist length, thick beautiful hair. All you do is swirl your hair into a bun and then 'screw' the twisted bobby pin through the bun. IT took me a couple times to figure out how to get a tight hold, but once you figure that out you are gold! And the best part is that when I put my hair up when its a bit wet, I have the most beautiful wavy curls when I take it down later!
The Goody brand pins are great, but expensive for how many pins you get. I only need one with my shorter, thin hair but my friend definitely used two for a stable bun. I've also bought these off-brand pins which are exactly the same thing for way less. I bought those in a gold metallic color and I haven't noticed any chipping or other aging marks on the metallic paint.
Do yourself a favor and try them out. I promise you they are magic!
Edit: More!
1.) I'm in the middle but more on the same side you are. Normally I never win anything. I've had something similar where I'll be with a group of people and they'll all win something and I wont. Meanwhile my SO and his friend just won playoff tickets to a game that I entered a bunch of times (you could enter once a day) and they only entered once. I never win scratch offs or other lottery type tickets either but all the tickets I'll buy for people will be big winners for them. On the other hand I've won a contest here which surprised the hell out of me because I was having a terrible day then came home and saw I had one.
2. This is something I saw while looking at someone elses wish lish and fell in love. It's adorable and I wear buns all the time so it will work nicely.
thanks for the contest and everyone's a winner

I could go on, but you get the idea [: Check out niceEshop and SODIAL's profiles on Amazon for cheap stuff :P Oh, and if I happen to win, anything that I linked here would be awesome! Good luck and thanks for the contest!
EDIT: I love boobies!
I like this because it is sparkly! It's on Rebekah's Wish List.
I like my organizational and prioritization skills, as well as my creativity. I'm pretty awesome in my opinion....lol.....
Good luck in your new job and congrats! That's very exciting! I'm starting a new job soon as well, and I know I'm excited also =)
There are many things I've learned growing my hair out, but these are the most important:
And my item is this headband for $1.68!
Thanks for the contest and welcome aboard!! :)
My best birthday gift ever was my engagement ring, on my 47th.
We had been together for about 16 years, but both being women, had never been able to tie the knot because laws. Then, our state voted it in. Not by the politicians, but by the voters! That was in November, and on my birthday in December, she took me to a nice, romantic dinner followed by time with friends. I liked my birthday just fine, but then she surprised me with the ring. I don't think I even gave her a chance to ask a question before leaping into her arms and crying, "Yes!"
$1.38!. LoL.
Happy slightly early birthday!
My go-to is a quick bun held in place with two smallish octopus clips. It holds quite well if I just twist, spiral, and clip (no hair elastic necessary), and it takes like five seconds to do. I have to redo it if I do something bouncy like a mat run, but it stays for basically everything else.
Some of my friends have slipperier hair than me, and they find that two spin pins work better for them than two octopus clips.
If I want something more secure, I'll go full-on classical ballet bun. I'll get my hair damp with a spray bottle, ponytail, and pin the shit out of it. I find that two-stranded buns hold the best and look the nicest (personal preference, though). I'm sure it's not good for my hair, but it's practically indestructible. You can jazz it up by doing a braided bun, a twist-and-braid combo, twists or french braids into the bun, and a bunch of other things.
Ugh, this is making me miss my long hair. I just cut a foot off.
Hi there! Thanks for this contest! You're awesome!!
The very greates, most-handy, neatest, most useful add on item for me is this pack of hair ties I use them everyday, and they are amazing! I have super thick hair and a two year old, so I don't like leaving it down all that often.
Now, pay attention in class! Also, have a great day!!
I budget for a minimum of 24 darts per player. I would buy some Koosh or Voberry darts, but delivery time is now against you.
My group has developed to the extent that every player needs at least 50 each, some pack 100+ darts a game. With wear and tear that gets expensive if you use Elites. Thank god for aftermarket darts!
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DONT BUY THE SOLID HEAD FVJ'S they are barred at all my games as they can leave bruises. Everyone should wear safety spec, whatever dart you use.
Voberry Link
BW12 Koosh link, now with better tip glue
I think you should do 1 person because, while it would be nice to include 4 people, the majority of contests on subs like this opt for smaller prizes. Which is fine, I mean, I shouldn't be spending money anyway let alone buying someone an mp3, but larger prizes are a bit rarer. And, from an item stand point, yes there are plenty of little things you can have on your wishlist that maybe you sorta kinda need, but that bigger item might be something someone actually needs but can't afford, hence the wishlist. So I say, 1 winner.
$25 item
$10 item
$5 item.
Thanks for having a contest!
Gifting is fun and this contest is awesome. I've got some variety on my Christmas wish-list.
Okay, first, we're going to the electronics. My tablet, named Tabby, is naked. She needs to be a bit more modest with this sassy, but classy, red cover.
Alright now we're getting a little thirsty and it's time to take a quick water break. What's that? You've got a glass but you need a STRAW?? I got choo covered, my friend.
Alright alright back to the list. It's tiiiiiiiiime for some detective work, Watson! Let's look for something for my/our messy hair. 'Cause we look a right, but oh-so-wrong, wreck.
AND boom! The total comes to 19.99 and we've got a penny left over for good luck!
Pretty , exactly $1.00
When i'm feeling down my German Shepard, Chica cuddles with me.. It's a great feeling especially since I have no friends in my city. She's my best friend.
Remarkable bird, the Norwegian Blue
Thanks for the contest...Smile=)
Two tips for curly hair and updo's: try out spin pins, they're bun pins for curly hair. I find them super comfortable. My hair is about belly button length.
Another idea for keeping it in place is to literally sew it. A super blunt needle (I use big plastic ones) and some yarn. There's someone on the /r/weddingplanning sub just today who's hair was done like this.
If your hair is braid-able, you can braid a circlet on the top of your head to keep things looking pretty and under control. Like this
Edit: I forgot to add my favourite updo/bun method: use chopsticks!
La looks and deva curl doesnβt work for me. I use either SM momongo gel, the eco styler flax seed or SM gel with the pink label. The SM curl enhancing smoothie too.
CG approved styling foam includes creme of nature styling foam, and thereβs one by styleID I LOVE bc you can use heat (I diffuse with med heat idc idc)
I use twisty Bobby pins like this and hair clips like this puff cuff like i said, great when I need a pony without the headache.
Try some sheet masks :) and get a cute headband to do them in like this one. It makes a fun mini spa experience, and you don't have to deal with the messy residue from regular clay masks.
Edit: also here's some activities you can try.
This Gorgeous headband would definitely make me smile! I love all the little girly hair accessories since I can't wear regular earrings or costume jewelry.
I'm horrible in these same situations and my SO's family is the exact same way! They will badger me for months asking me for christmas lists and birthday lists! I always default to things I need vs. things I want because needs are easier to be specific with. Or if you go out and browse one day just take note(or take pics with your phone, makes it so much easier to remember!) of the things you come across that you like, maybe that one special thing that you've been eyeing for a long time that you never indulged in yourself because of the price?
9-5'er checking in- I've been working out 7-8 am, M-F for the last ~3 months and I love it. (never thought I'd say that lol!)
I can actually get ready for work faster at the gym than at home because of the lack of distractions. I'm asking for a gym bag for Christmas, because all of this crap does not fit in any single bag that I own lol. I bring a towel, turbi-twist, toiletry bag with shampoo/conditioner/face wash/body wash/razor, hanging toiletry bag with heat protectant spray/deodorant/body spray/moisturizer/cotton swabs, makeup bag, straightener, body lotion, dry shampoo (clean freak for the days I don't wash my hair, shower shoes, and small zippered bag for my jewelry. I keep extra pairs of undies in a small pocket of my bag, and should probably actually keep an entire change of clothes in my car. I have forgotten underwear, bra, and towel before (not all on the same day, haha!). It's super important to prepare everything the night before. I lay my towel out in the backseat of my car during my work day so it dries. I keep my work clothes folded in my bag overnight and during my workout, and I haven't had a problem with wrinkly clothes, I guess partly because of the type of fabrics I wear (drapey tops and jersey knit skirts).
Sorry for the stream of consciousness lol. I am a huge advocate of the before-work workout.
Thank you /u/Sp3cia1K for your work on the bomb. It really is a wonderful event :)
this is what I want.
I think this is really cute.
Go Mom Go!
I'm a runner with shoulder-length hair. I usually run with a high ponytail using thick no-damage hair ties. 2 loops. If I want it really tight I can do 3 loops but I've noticed that will sometimes take hairs with it, while 2 loops doesn't.
Pro tip: (maybe?) I grab my bluetooth headphones before doing the ponytail and pull wire slack between the buds through, eliminating all of the wire bounce and any clips in one go. Just be careful pulling it out as the rubber (on most I've seen) will grab hairs.
I haven't found any split ends since my last trim about 2 years ago, so I think it's working well.
I've also started hot yoga and have been doing a low pony tail with the same hair ties. I think it's time to get serious about my learning to braid :)
After a workout I comb my hair gently from the bottom up with a wide-tooth comb. Before I shower. If it's really messed up e.g. from a long/hard/wet run, I use too much conditioner and comb that through - again, gently from the bottom up. Most of the time I simply rinse it without products, washing about once a week and conditioning 1 or 2 times as needed.

Thanks for starting the thread. I am also interested in this subject :)
Yessss, my hair is down to my wait and about 4x thicker at least than most of my friends. I can straighten it or put it in 6-10 braids at night to have wavy hair the next day and that's about it. I do take thinning shears to it every 3 months or so to keep it more manageable and it tangles less.
Some tips for you: these hair ties are a lifesaver and never slip out like others do, and one pack has lasted me 3 years so far. Also, bobby pins work best wavy side down, in case you didn't know! If you want some volume on top, and teasing/hairspray isn't enough, this stuff is awesome and cheap in-store, normally about $4 here.

The craziest thing i have done to my hair: I wanted to be bleach blonde, i had natural dark hair at the time and i didn't want to spend 1oo+ dollars just to go get it done so i decided to do it myself, so i get a box of blonde from walmart go home and do it, and hour later i take it out it's the color of ORANGE! i cried for an hour! lol i finally said fuck it and went and got it done! it was so embarrassing but it's funny now that i look back at it, it was the day after Halloween too... LOL
I would love this!

This stuff is AAAAMAZIIING
Did she do her hair that day? Did you show her some of your pictures in a similar style ahead of time? Did you deliver on matching the style that they (probably) saw ahead of time? If you followed through on capturing the moment and processing the images in a way that's consistent with your normal work flow, then I'd say you're in the clear.
If she really wants a reshoot, offer another session at your normal rate. If she doesn't like that idea, you could offer a discount on another session as compensation since she's not happy with how she did her hair that day.
How did you bill her? If you gave her an invoice, make sure to write the full price and then deduct a discount (Friends & Family usually works well). This way, they know they're getting a discount. That doesn't quite apply here, but it's good advice for any future work of this nature.
Also, I'd recommend keeping hairspray, bobby pins, hair clips, and hair ties. It'll cost you about $20 up front for all of those things but you'll be able to save yourself hours and hours later in editing hair and your clients will be so much happier with you during the shoot. Also, I'd recommend keeping a mirror in your kit as well.
This headband is the cheapest thing on my wishlist, only $1.38 and has free shipping. I like it because it's very summery. Plus, I have a navy and gold dress that I can wear with it. :)

I have suuuuper curly hair and was previously using a long sleeved t-shirt to plop my hair, but I have since moved on to a Turbie Twist. It's microfiber and is perfect for starting the drying process without crushing or snagging my curls, and it's great for keeping my hair out of my face when I do my routine/makeup!
The praying hands method can elongate curls slightly, heavier products can also do something similar. That said, more substantial elongation usually requires weighing down the curl clumps while they dry and the effect is only temporary. As your hair gets longer, it will be heavier and may also elongate your curls. Permanently elongating the hair requires chemically treating it which will damage the hair, but it won't be curly until new growth happens.
Frankly, I'd go for thicker curls in your hair rather than trying to elongate them. The thicker variety will be heavier. A curl cream can help your hair clump into thicker curls and may elongate them a bit. Layer a gel over it to hold the curl shape. What I do, is put product in and scrunch my hair a few times to make it coil up, then put it into a microfiber turban (I like Turbie Twist) for about 15 to 30 minutes before letting it out and finish air drying naturally for a few hours. I have a lot of hair so it takes a while to air dry. You can try the technique I mention in my post, it's a bit more involved but you can skip some of it.
As for creams, you can try Camille Rose Aloe Whipped Butter Gel, which is lighter, or Eden Bodyworks Natural Curl Defining Cream, which is heavier.
I have long (boob length), wavy hair that is thick, but the individual hairs are fine (i just have a lot of them).I find for my hair if I wear it up, I need a quick mist of hair spray or sea salt spray to give my hair some tack so it doesn't just slip out. I have also found that these spin pins are fantastic for really anchoring down a bun to your head. I also like styles like this that look complicated, but really hold all of the hair together and stays in place (I use the spin pins to anchor down this style as well).
Yay bobby pins!
I have to put my super long hair into a bun for Clue, so they would make that a LOT easier. Patrick Kane is our hero. He could also benefit from bobby pins.
Loved my bob cut and was thinking of cutting my hair again. I used to braid my hair down two sides to catch all the hair. Those little elastic rubber bands for hair are amazing but will end up everywhere. Also, these are amazing if you want to do two little buns. They stay put much better than bobby pins.
Great contest you are amazing! Schmad on my add on
$20-30 item, & add on.
Why do I need the big item? Arizona gets make your butt sweat & face melt hot, I need something to cool off with.this item could be used for much more than just making a snow cone. I could use the Ice to smoosh on my face to stay cool,i could make a ton of ice in my freezer then fill my bath tub with "snow" and play in it. I also like eating ice, shaved ice will be better for my teeth then ice chunks. The add on item would be for my daughter & myself but could also be used for sly missions. Lol
Allons-y! Alonzo!
Dude, you might be my favorite now.. β₯ Ten!
This headband would make me feel super pretty!
My hair is similar to yours, and about 7 months ago I got really tiered if my go to dos "down and natural," messy bun," and "sleek sock bun." I also got really tired of every morning trying to figure out what I wanted to do with my hair, so I decided to have a hair "uniform." Every work day my hair is the exact same.
I part to the left (always have), twist the right side (bangs) into kind of of a Dutch twist and bring that back to a low ponytail behind/below my right ear. For the left side I just smooth it back and join it in to the low pony.
From here I'll braid the pony tail and roll it up into a bun and secure with a spin pin
This works for me as a simple, quick, everyday, professional look. I felt like my hair was too long for the look I wanted to present professionally and made me look much younger than I am so an updo was my best option.
I do also love a sleek sock bun
Good luck!

a few months ago I got my hair cut super short and I'm at the inbetween stage and my hair actually DOES look rather fluffy lately, like a baby chicks lol. So I've been looking for cute hair things :)
Not prime but free shipping:
It's a cute hairband to keep your hair outta your face while washing it/doing makeup/sheet masking:
I also have a peacock hairclip and an itty bitty jewelry box, because at this point I'm just sharing cheap stuff with free shipping whee!
I would pick /u/nayohmerae as my buddy. And it's not quite a survival tactic, more as I'll be her pet zombie. I have long since accepted my fate as a zombie for my lack of survival instincts. But I have promised to become the ultimate zombie, deck myself out in bullet proof vest, army helmet and wrap my entire body and appendages in barbed wire to make sure that if I get you, I get you good. And she will put me on a leash and I will protect her from all the bad humans out there and will fool other zombies into not realizing there is food around. It'll be great.
And hair ties would help me survive (as a zombie) to keep my hair out of the way and less easier to grab at if humans are trying to escape my chomping jaws !
Damnit Daryl! Clean yourself up!
You're welcome! But for some reason, I feel like someone else got you that clip. It doesn't look like the one I ordered. So maybe someone else got you one as well! Either way, enjoy the gift :D
> I kind of worry about kinks from pinning it, but it's definitely worth a shot!
Have you tried using a spin pin? I put wet hair in a bun with one of those pins all the time and I don't get kinks, just very gently wavy hair from it being twisted. I can imagine it working well if you put it in a bun on top of your head before bed.
I have pretty thin straight long hair. I wear a bun and a headband for every work out!
I use these spin pins to make the bun so that I don't get a crease in my hair and supposedly help prevent breakage from wearing tight ponytails everyday.
And this headband is my favorite. It's the only lululemon thing I own because it's the only lululemon thing I can afford but it is great. It never slips, I never get headaches and I wash it once in a while with my regular laundry.
Get spin pins: http://www.amazon.com/Goody-Simple-Styles-Assorted-Colors/dp/B003FVDNO6
After showering, flip your head upside down and gather up hair on the top of your head like you're doing a ponytail. Start twisting hair around until it gently coils up on itself. Secure with spin pins into a bun smack on top of your head. Remove in morning to fluffy hair goodness.
This awesome headband and it has free shipping!!
Thanks for the contest!!
I'd get some of those twisty bobby pin thingies. I have a bob right now, but if I have some curl in my hair, I can just kind of roll and twist my hair at the nape of my neck and insert two of those bad boys. Secure any strands that fall out with extra (regular) bobby pins. Cute and effortless looking with minimal effort (especially if your hair naturally has some curl to it). If you don't have any curl in your hair, I'd definitely add some product and maybe run a curling iron through your hair first.
I also like to gather strands on both sides of the front of my hairline and either twist or braid them back on super lazy days.
> a cosmetic hairband with cute cat ears --> Where do I find this?
I just ordered this one from Etude House last night! I had a little bit of a gift card left and wanted to treat myself :) apparently it also comes with samples?
cheeeeeeeeapest, free shipping, AND pretty <3. Trying to build up my accessories inventory :) Thank you for the contest :D
I use a microfiber hair towel turbie twist and it works great! They have them at walmart for like 5$. It's cool 'cause it has a loop thing that you can secure the twist with so that it doesn't unravel!
Also for volume, have you tried clipping your roots? these or something like it are helpful. Sometimes when Iβm in a rush Iβll clip my roots, blow dry said roots, then drive to work and when I park Iβll take the clips out & SOTC. Good luck!

Thanks for the contest. People like you make the world a better place a happier place.
Maybe some of those tiny little notebooks that fit in your pocket? I use those to write down vitals and such without lugging a clipboard around.
Hair ties since sheβll have to have her hair up, or if she would like them, I really love spin pins because I can have my hair up all day and never get a headache like I do from a pony tail.
Also donβt forget lunchbox stuff could be useful too because hospital cafeteria food is disgusting and generally not very healthy. Like maybe some glass Tupperware , a lunchbox, or a water bottle/cup.
Also if your friend is like me and likes to wear makeup, she will want a lipstick that wonβt quit! This stuff stays on through my 12 hour shifts and I just love it!
Really depends on how much you want to spend, but I find that that these are the things that really got me through clinicals.

Congrats on little Sprinkle Donut! And thanks for the contest
I keep it long so I can twist it up in a bun and use a single alligator clip, this prevents the breakage that would happen with a ponytail or barrette. I also don't wash my hair very much (dry shampoo along with cornstarch/coco/cinnamon mixture works wonders.) and by not very much I often go two or three weeks without washing, this makes it much easier to twist up in a single clip. I start the twist near the crown of my head and go down with it then fold it up and put in the clip from the bottom, this seems to work the best for me.
alligator clip like these
And these clips work well also.
I think it much easier to put up hair that's a bit dirty than when it's slippery after just washing.
If my fella didn't express a strong preference to my long hair it would be about an inch long all the way around, I've told him if we ever break up the hair is coming off the next day.
I have long dreadlocks (a little past my hips) and I flip my head upside down and twist it tightly into a bun on top of my head securing it all with an elastic. Actually I use a headband due to the thickness, but if you don't have dreads then a regular hair tie would probably work. It usually holds pretty well.
They wouldn't work in my hair, but my aerial instructor usually puts her hair in a low bun using spin pins like these https://www.amazon.com/Goody-Simple-Styles-Assorted-Colors/dp/B003FVDNO6?th=1
It will be mine, oh yes, it will be mine. because, let's be honest -- these things get up and walk away all the damn time and I can never find one when I need one. A lady always needs more bobby pins. Thanks for the contest :)
If you do buns I highly suggest using either spin pins or bun pins to keep your hair up instead of a hair tie! creaseless hair ties work great to avoid breakage and I hear invisibobbles or "hair coils" work great too. (Somebody else also suggested these)

I can imagine finding travel samples of makeup and supergluing this type of button to the top of the cap or these things to the side of the cap, then threading a paper clip through the hole. You could then attach the paper clip directly to your key ring.
Or you could superglue a thick hair elastic to the cap and put a key ring through it. Even a strip of fabric tied in a ring and glued to the cap would work.
There are tons of tiny jars and things to make your makeup portable, so making them key-ring friendly shouldn't be too difficult. However, I would test cap strength first-- My key ring is tossed in my pocket, thrown on the desk, pulled out of a tangle of other pocket stuff, and generally moves around a lot, whatever I attach to it goes through the same rough treatment.
I have long, super thick hair (and I'm half-black, so I have that whole thing going on, too) and Spin Pins are basically the best thing EVER. One of them will keep my hair up all day. Two of them will keep it from moving even an inch. You should check them out.

item thanks for doing this!

ok, high porosity makes sense if it's color treated. So, I use either the Hask Keratin protein mask or the Shea Moisture Manuka Honey and Mafura Oil deep conditioners, and both of them work really well. In fact, I was having issues just last week because I had moved climates and my hair was getting REALLY dry... so I did an extra-long treatment with the Shea Moisture one (left it in for about 45 minutes) and my hair is MUCH better again. Now, I don't recommend doing that, it risks protein overload, but a good 20 minute treatment might be what you need.
I have to do a mask about once a week to keep mine looking good.
Personally I just use some little butterfly clips that I had lying around, but these ones are the actual recommended style: https://www.amazon.ca/Diane-Double-Prong-Clips-Count/dp/B00143WQI6/ref=pd_cp_194_1?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B00143WQI6&pd_rd_r=b003856c-baf3-11e8-a904-6bfe9a9fef2d&pd_rd_w=Wx9zp&pd_rd_wg=CEFcc&pf_rd_i=desktop-dp-sims&pf_rd_m=A3DWYIK6Y9EEQB&pf_rd_p=95448740-5917-4df8-bb6a-086a0d0bb079&pf_rd_r=0ZCG00FMHRGEFESYRHZR&pf_rd_s=desktop-dp-sims&pf_rd_t=40701&psc=1&refRID=0ZCG00FMHRGEFESYRHZR

I just use these regular clips. There are all kinds of variations. The dollar store is a great place to pick up a bunch of different types so you can experiment and see what you like. Iβve also used these type of clips as well.
The best way I've found to secure my hair is by using these spin pins to pin up my bun and then I use an elastic on top of that. My hair does not budge!
This!
I love cheap

I had the same problem with hair ties so I got this style of hair clip. I pile my hair on top of my head and use this clip to keep it in place. This probably wouldn't work for people with very long hair but mine is just about shoulder length so it works for me. The next morning I use a small spray bottle with a mixture of water and conditioner (mostly water, probably about 10 parts water to 1 part conditioner). I spray my hair and scrunch the curls with my hands. Honestly, some days my second-day curls are better than the first day.
yours truly. there is one other thing coming.
Edit: Hair Clip is on its way
Edit 2: TIL non amazon supported gifts look like they are secret regardless of making a gifted post
I tend to pineapple my hair (maybe not all the way to the front and usually with an octopus clip ) and sometimes I'll use a headband if my hair keeps going in my face.
I don't cover my hair completely, but I'm sure there are some people here who do :)
It will be mine, oh yes, it will be mine.
So I was doing my hair this morning and I went to grab a bobby pin to pin some of my hair back. I'm looking all over my bathroom counter (I'm terribly unorganized when it comes to my hair supplies) - can't find one. Check my makeup bag (which ends up being my everything bag) - no luck. Finally, I check my purse (you never know when you're out and about and need a bobby pin) - found one! I finish my hair and head out (three minutes later than intended).
I have a serious bobby pins deficit problem. So my request for an add-on item is this lovely six-pack of bobby pins so I will never run out of bobby pins again.
Haha, let's be honest now - I'd probably run out again in a few months. But for the time being, these bobby pins would help tremendously.
EDIT: Cheaper option

These hair ties because they are super cute and I've always wanted to try them!
Thanks for the fun contest! cheap cheap cheap things! Here's what I want that's cheap, because my cats keep stealing them all. P.S. Happy b-day! :D
You need spin pins! These hold better than any rubber band/bobby pin combo and when you take your bun out at the end of the day, you have lovely curls.
They're the same as regular hair ties, but they're designed for thick hair so they're bigger by default and have extra stretch. I swear by them when I have braids in.
I'm pretty sure these are the ones I have.
I workout in the mornings so I usually shower every morning so i usually just redo my hair.
In the days that I decide I need more sleep and workout later:
Use a non crease hair tie like these
After working out, I take out my hair tie with my head upside down
With my head still upside down, I use my fingers to loosen up my roots and get them away from laying flat on my head and scrunch my curls a bit
Flip hair back over. Using my hands and water from a sink, I go over my curls to help with frizzes and re position the curls back where they belong (I also have a travel size container with gel in it that will help with the curls forming back together)
Item: KAPOW!

Once upon a time, there was a girl who was on a mythical quest to find a spiny cactus in the middle of the desert. It was a long quest and a hot one. The sun's rays beamed down on her as she made her way. Each step grew more heavy than the last. She followed the directions given to her from her trusty game Theatrythm and while the directions appeared to be accurate, her hair would grow with every step. Soon she could not see where she was going and get path became unclear. Luckily, she found a pack of hair pins to keep her hair from her eyes. The path cleared and she was able to find get way.
The end.

Solid choices, although are you planning on buying the official Elite darts? I think Voberry Darts would allow you to provide your kid with many more darts for a longer time. The fact that they're slightly larger than Elites allows them to be used without wearing down for a longer period of time. They won't need to be replaced as often as a result.
Although, there are two kinks in the Voberry darts; one is that the shipping protection is often inadequate, resulting in crushed (and thereby useless) darts. The other is that every once in a while, a dart will have a completely solid head. They must be thrown out as well.
Despite those problems, the Voberry darts are still a better value for the money than official Elites, especially since your kid isn't attending hardcore wars and likely won't be going through darts too quickly. And even if he does, $5 isn't too much to spare for 50 extra. C:

I'd love a Hootie!
I was in the military for a few years, so I feel you! My hair was so damaged from the hair ties. I would say avoid regular hair ties and use scrunchies if you can. You could also try spin pins: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N5X7AK7/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_BMeQAb3GE7D4V
I have used two to put my hair in a bun, and it holds even better than hair ties for me.
TBH I wish I would have just chopped my hair off for the military, then I wouldn't have had to worry, lol.
I also used to braid my hair (it was pretty long) and twist the braid into a bun. Then I would get to have waves, even if they weren't my natural waves.
here is my item. Also I know I love to stay in this sub and not work too lol. Thank you for the contest.
Braids! There are a ton of really beautiful styles that you can do with braids.
Another secret if you haven't found them yet- spin pins. I used to use at least 6-12 long pins in my hair daily when I put it up and usually throughout the day they would start to wiggle out. Now I use 2-4 spin pins for a similar style and they stay put all day. You can get the knockoffs on amazon for cheap.
Also hip length, and I highly recommend the goody ouchless and Scunci No Slip silicone hair ties. I rarely ever have hair snarl on them and as the other poster mention they're much more versatile! Though for buns I prefer hairsticks or spin pins, as they are able keep the weight of my hair evenly distributed.
As for sleeping I have to detangle, and do very loose double french or rope braid. Too tight and it's uncomfy and causes fraying/breakage too. Sleeping on a satin pillowcase also helps too, as it causes less friction than cotton or polyblends. I've tried satin sleep caps, kerchiefs and such however I move around too much at night to keep them on. Though if you can wear them and keep them on many sing their praises!
I would like to get this pack of bobby pins. Patrick Kane is our hero
Haha. You mean voberry :P
Every time someone says 'vodberry' I think "... and the snazberries taste like snazberries!"
Because bobby pins are the best! And cheap!
Sure, use those examples. Or like countless other things that aren't heavy:

This if you would count that. But if not then these handy hair helpers. Thanks for the contest!
Just chiming in. There are "hair donuts" you can buy specifically for this purpose, but you can also cut the toe out of a sock, roll it up, and use it inside your bun. This method will make the bun bigger, more shapely, and easier to secure.
Something else you might try is a texturizer. It makes your hair more voluminous and less slippery.

These sweet Bobby Pins will come in handy! Can be used as a fishing hook, a screwdriver (if I have some random screwing to do on the desert island), as a lock pick when I find the dharma initiative hideout, emergency skin sutures (ack the pain), holding back my hair as I make traps with string, sticks and bobby pins for bunnies etc.
Since turtles are awesome, I'd use bobby pins along with braided palm leaves to fashion a harness for my sea turtles so I could escape.
This is $0.75. Thanks for contest!!

I have the worlds finest hair. 5 minutes in a pony tail and its like I've got a permanent line in my hair until I wash it even though it won't hold a curl to save my life.
Use this. It says use two for a bun, my hair is so fine I can use one even though my hair is so long it goes to the small of my back. If you put some product in it and do a spiral bun while its damp it actually looks really sexy when you take it down after its dried. Typically I can go 4-5 hours with out adjusting the pin but if you use two they lock each other in place, I just can't fit them both in my bun.
They're worth 10x their weight in gold, buy some and try it out. It took me a while to figure out just how to get them to work for me but it was beyond worth it. They're my go to hair tie when I need to go out and about. Won't work for sports/working out or sleeping unfortunately.
Get a Turbie Twist if you have long hair. Even shorter drying time!

I don't use bobby pins for this reason. They're terrible, especially for holding any real amount of hair.
If you want to secure a bun, use amish hairpins, or spin pins, or hair sticks, or a ficcare, or something else along those lines. Bobby pins aren't worth the metal they're made from, in my opinion!

Lady with mid-thigh length hair.
She can GET IT.
Item from my hair list.
Get them because you are amazing and deserve them.
these things are INCREDIBLE! best part is they don't damage hair. finally after years of wearing a bun i am seeing my short broken strands growing out.
I use these. They stay in place and they are the perfect size.
I think this headband is cute. and I just chopped off a lot of hair so I don't know what to do with it! and I can wear it with the Dancing Lobsters!
ps - it's on my $5 and under list
Hello, friend, let me blow your mind.
Also.
That's really bs, why do people have to be so damn rude? I hope this cheers you up. Here's my item!
After the braid step, wrap it into a bun and secure with spin pins instead of multiple elastics. Stays put for me through running, multiple soccer games, and swimming (in the ocean without a cap). For just short runs I can skip the braid step as well. For daily life I even skip the elastic. Just twist, pin, and go.

I use about 5 pumps of gel, and I use clips like these to add extra volume when I diffuse! They really help control the curl and add some volume, especially on the front pieces.

A few weeks ago at walmart I spotted silicone hair elastics. Not those tiny ones that knot themselves to your hair and then break. Big, thick, unbreakable silicone ponytail holders. Bought a pack to try them and they are amazeballs. I put my hair up at the beginning of the night and two hours of rolling later only a few strands have come out. Downside is that the grip is so good that if someone gets your braid between their legs/arms or under their body it's staying there. But they are the best elastics I've ever used.

Then you'll be pleased to know how cheap it was!
Have you heard of spin pins? I put my hair in a high-ish ponytail, braid it, and then twist these pins into the bun. It helps my thick hair stay in place all day! You can do a regular ballet bun with them too. To give you an idea of the hold, I wear these in my hair to go run at the gym!

I wear it for skincare routine and makeup application. No more mascara in my bangs! It's a miracle!
Woot! I think I would go for a headband. Trying to spruce up my collection and make my hair routine less dull lol.
This . But i use these hair twist pins. And then im able to pull lil pieces out to frame my face.

They are a generic elite dart from China.
I haven't seen any undersized reports from them. But there are mislabeled ones that have hard rubber tips. And the glue can leave something to be desired like Koosh.
I don't have advice on how to make it work because I have the exact same issue with plopping BUT last time I got my hair cut I asked my hairdresser what I could do to give my curls some more volume around the top of my head and she suggested getting clips like these and inserting them around the crown of my head with the tips pointing toward the top of my head. It holds the roots up while my curls set and then I can just pull them out whenever I want and I have the volume I am looking for. It doesn't in any way solve the problem of not being able to plop my curls so I've just lived without that but they hold up alright anyway. Sorry I can't help with your actual problem! Hope this helps someone at least!
These because they always disappear!
Also, I move into my dorms in 3 days!
Thanks for the contest!
A hairband/bobble? Try something like this?
this would be nice for only $1.72
I'm so jealous that you can do that in a reasonable amount of time. My damn hair takes half the day to dry all the way through! I've found it works best with one of those tie style ones ala http://smile.amazon.com/No-Crease-Hair-Ties-Laurenz/dp/B00BRXTM7Q?sa-no-redirect=1
My hair is usually voluminous enough that I don't have to loop it.
I have long thick hair as well! First I do a normal ponytail and twirl that that into a bun. Then I use two "telephone cord" hair ties to keep the bun shape. And finally I use two goody "spin pins" to secure the bun! I've used this for several races and long runs and it doesn't bounce or get loose.

These work very well!
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00L0X7C3E/
These work pretty well, normal hair ties will only go around my hair twice, but these will go round thrice and be snug but not overly tight.
Sorry I am just seeing this! I use spin pins - you can twist up your hair in a bun and then screw in these pins, which are very secure! I never learned the bun-with-elastic technique. My buns look deformed when I do that.
I use spiral bobbypins to put my hair in a bun. No creases and you can make the bun as loose or tight as you need. I usually use 4 pins for a nice and secure bun (for top, bottom, and each side)

I would recommend satin scrunchies or ribbon hair ties or the puff cuff
If you decide Voberry then these Voberry darts are what I bought and they're pretty solid.
The big 2 to look into are Voberry and Koosh.
It's tough finding info because a lot of things are actually outdated, so I'll try to give a quick summary.
Koosh has 2 specific sellers to use on eBay, BeautifulWomen2012 and Yutoys. BW2012 had issues with tips falling off, but recently acknowledged the issue and made improvements with "Improved Adhesive" listings. Yutoys often had less issues with tips falling off, but still some problems. With Koosh, the difference between these 2 buyers is small, and if you don't mind regluing tips they're a solid choice. Koosh originally had issues in springers but other posters here claim that's also a thing of the past. As far as I know, Koosh is more accurate and consistent than standard elite.
Voberry you can find on Amazon, and I recommend only buying from the Voberry market connected to that link. There are a few different sellers (JLTech1 and CXB1983 I've purchased from) but I've noticed no difference between them. Voberry has no manufacturing issues, but I noticed a slight drop in range in flywheels. These darts are the same accuracy as standard elites.
My cat loves to steal these and now I'm out...
Hey ;)
What type of hair tie do you use? I find that ribbon hair ties are much gentler on my hair. However, I can't get as tight of a ponytail with them, so I find myself redoing my ponytail every couple hours.
Youre totally right. But most people with long hair take a minute to redo it when it looks like a half exploded firework. Or at least grab another hairtie or clip to pin that mess down and out the way.
Side note: I got these spiral bobby pins that I twirl into my top bun and it keeps that sucker smooth and in place for an 8 hour shift, working out and running, and even swimming. I wish I knew about these when I was still practicing ballet and cheerleading.
Interesting...hmmm...when I was little and lived in Mexico I fell off a stage and broke my head open. Oh and I've also stuck my hand inside a calf's mouth while visiting my grandpas farm!
