So, I never made it to the garment stage but basically lived in pants and baggy clothes for the first 20 years of my life because I was so self conscious about my legs and body (yay conservative body-shaming upbringing).

For dresses, I know women who swear by little shorts under their skirts. In the summer I use a variation of these spanx-ish things under dresses and skirts. I buy a size up so it doesn't slim as much as just keep the thighs from rubbing. Also, if you're hard up you can just rub deodorant on your thighs , it's an ok short-term solution. =) BTW, they also make these things now almost like old-fashioned bloomers that do the same thing but are looser. I'll see if I can find a link.

I don't have a lot of recs for bras except what others have posted. VS bras are usually pretty comfy. Calvin Klein is pretty good too. I've heard great things about the comfort of maternity/nursing bras even for women who aren't nursing, since they're basically made to be functional and comfortable. And I'll plug abrathatfits since having a well-fitting bra can help a lot in the comfort department--I've certainly noticed a difference.

Good luck! Welcome to the wide wonderful world of postmo underwear!

Edit: Found the bloomer things, apparently they are called "pettipants". But hey, they are an option and are not religiously-affiliated underwear!

I hear that so much- the purchasing from a charity organization and just settling a bit for whatever fits and looks nice. I really do love your dress, though, and I think once it's fitted you will feel much better about it. The keyhole back is SO romantic and I love the way it flares out at the bottom! Another bride here had a similar dress and got a crinoline like this that seemed to make a world of difference in the shape.

I think the dress is quite lovely and is actually very flattering on your curves, and I adore the buttons on the back. So beautiful!

u/Warwicky · 2 pointsr/weddingplanning

Oooh, that dress is beautiful, congrats on finding the one! I ordered this one from a maker in Kentucky http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000J2PGKI/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
My dress is a ballgown so you probably wouldn't need something this large but it is perfect for what I needed and the hoops are adjustable. Also, the top is just a drawstring so it really does fit most sizes. I am a 16 and it fit all the way around me. I was really pleased with the purchase. I would avoid anything from overseas if you could help it. Good Luck!

Mermaid slips are totally a thing, that might add a little poof if that's what you're interested in. Empire Bridal may be able to help--I don't know if they sell to the public, but your seamstress may be able to buy one of them wholesale.

However, if you're not looking for poof, I'd say to just snag a full length slip like this or this in white or beige. They are so light you probably won't even notice you're wearing one. They won't cause as much of a line as the actual mermaid slip from Empire, and you can probably just pull it up higher if it does.

It would probably be best to be safe rather than sorry, and $20 or $30 bucks is a pretty good price for peace of mind! :>

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Greetings, greetings and welcome to this post about a self-birthday gift and how I need lot of help with sizes!

Please, bear with me with the (probably) long post. The introduction is that I'm looking for something that will fits me nice but also feel femenine. I've been orbitating around a "rockabilly look" for a while, because these dresses are amazing, and also a good excuse to get some proper heels.

So, my checkout should be:

  • The dress (d'uh).
  • Petticoat.
  • A (6-suspenders) garter belt. (Already got the stockings).
  • Heels.

I'll go through Amazon because prices are low, nondescript packaging and free returns, but if there's an alternative with the same qualities, please post it here.

    Now, first chapter: The dress.

I'm looking into this but I have a doubt on sizing: I have belly and don't have boobs (d'uh), for what I'm reading and measuring, my (flat) chest is a at 98cm's (XL Size), while my (fat) belly is at 100m (XXXL size). The fabric seems to be a bit elastic, so I have some room here to work with. Which would you suggest? Maybe look into something different? Wait until I lose a bit of weight? Going with the medium and fill the chest with some padding?

    Second chapter, the petticoat:

I've more or less found one that I could use, altough this also looks good. My doubt is if both are of the same lenght and the first one is made to be wore above the waistline where the second one is made to be wore below it, or if I'm mixing things up.

    Third chapter, the heels:

I'm looking into these bad boys. The comments talk about looking at the sizing table ("longitud del talón a la punta", "length from heel to toe") which is more or less 25cm (which would put me between 40 and 41.

Some of the shoes have an extra sizing table which points that if you have a wide feet, order half a size up. How do I know about this? I'm thinking on getting the 41,as it seems it comes with some padding, but I have no real experience on what a "heel" feels when actually fits.

Also, I've mispelled "heel" as "hell" twice, lol.

    Fourth chapter, the garter:

The garter belt comes again with belly problems. Link. I'm thinking on getting the XL, as it fits my hips, but not my waist. Would you advice to go for it? Can I increase the sizing on the waist somehow?

    Thanks!

P.S. I'm not a native english speaker and I'm actually impressed of my vocabulary for clothing related stuff, wow.

I am pretty sure it is from Amazon, if anyone reading wants one! Source: I wore the same one in my wedding rehearsal ☺

Not sure of your wedding colors - but the style of your original dress would lend itself really well to a pink (or whatever color), frilly, petticoat to help you get that glamorous touch you are longing for, without breaking the budget.

I definitely agree with you about the fabric. I found this photo of your inspiration dress, and it makes the fabric look much lighter than the fabric the seamstress used. It almost looks like a silk organza.

I think the stiffness and heaviness of the skirt fabric is what is making it look like it's missing the mark a little. Also, maybe the pleats could be made deeper for more fullness? I do think that a petticoat would definitely help, but not a full hoop skirt. Something like this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01IUSIYEM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Hi! I'm getting married June 8 and will have one available after that - I could get it to you in early July post-honeymoon. I actually got mine off Amazon though for like $30 if that's easier for you: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ZPMV1JC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I have the small/medium size. Would you like to buy from me if this works for your timeline?

(I also tried on this one from Amazon: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01EH3UV8Q/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It has a hoop so is wider at the bottom than the one I ended up keeping).

#relate! I am in the same shoes, I hate it when I can hear my thighs rubbing together- and I have a perfectly healthy BMI!
I will say that pettipants and sliders have saved me a lot of stress when it comes to wearing skirts! It's like wearing shorts under them and a lot of them are really light and airy, and they keep your thighs from chaffing! Here is a link to a pair of pettipants for reference :)

No problem! I see you wrote in another comment that it's a ballgown. In that case, look into big slips with hoops like this or this.

You can put them on and the hoop will essentially hold the dress up for you instead of you dragging it all night. Bonus is they're pretty cheap and some hold the layers away from your legs which can help cool you.

u/mokoroko · 7 pointsr/femalefashionadvice

I've been meaning to buy a pair of tap pants/silk boxers for years now, and am finally getting around to it after buying a summer dress that is definitely too short for my normal slips. I prefer a slightly looser fit, as boy shorts tend to ride up on me and/or give me sausage legs. These and these are well reviewed on Amazon and seem like what I'm looking for. There are also more boxer-looking styles available also.

u/LeftMySoulAtHome · 2 pointsr/Wishlist

That is a gorgeous dress, first of all. What if you wore a petticoat like this? You could get a colored one and put a ribbon/fabric sign on it like a trophy would be engraved.

u/kesceca · 1 pointr/femalefashionadvice

Does anyone have any recommendations for a pair of short-length slip short to wear under loose pants? I have a pair similar to these that are unfortunately see-through and with a slit on the sides that comes up quite high. I need something that is slightly higher than mid-thigh and doesn't go up further than my belly button. Was looking at the Ilusion but wondering if they would bunch up too much. Or the Liang Rou. I saw jockeys being the recommend on this sub but they seem to be way too long. I'm in Canada as well. Thanks for the input!

I got this one! Definitely not super fancy, but got the job done. I'm wearing a dress that lays pretty flat without it, and it gives it some poof. You can check my post history for pictures :)

u/april731 · 1 pointr/weddingplanning

I'm using the one that my sister wore in her wedding, so I'm not exactly sure. I think it might be the one that DB sells. (I wouldn't have bought the $80 one from them if I was buying now. If you go the Amazon route, just make sure you get one that has free returns like this. It wouldn't hurt to try it on with your dress before buying something more expensive.)

u/toniMPLS · 9 pointsr/femalefashionadvice

If the problem isn't static, there's nothing you can really do, save for wearing a slip. If it's full-body slips (I'm not sure if that's the term) that you don't like, maybe you'd like a half slip? Or maybe slip shorts over your tights would help?

u/BernThereDoneThat · 7 pointsr/TrollXChromosomes

I adore my silk shorts! Like serious game changer.

u/ro4snow · 11 pointsr/sewhelp

You will want some version of a crinoline hoop slip.

Search this on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/MISSVEIL-Crinoline-Petticoat-Underskirt-Wedding/dp/B07MN9XFRK/ref=sr_1_3_sspa?keywords=hoop+slip&qid=1566493123&s=gateway&sr=8-3-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUExWlFRVjdDRzI1UVVIJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwODMwNTE3MUhOQVZEV0pNMUc2RSZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwNTQwMzMwMVFRUU5GSkxLUlVMTiZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX2F0ZiZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU=

Sorry for the long link. If you get a slip with the horsehair hoop or hoops closer to the bottom you will get a look similar to the picture you have. If you get hoops closer to your waist, it will poof out from up there. Hope that helps

u/a_junebug · 2 pointsr/NoStupidQuestions

Agreed . I bought the dress linked below in Amazon and received many compliments. I even purchased a petticoat slip to get more flair.

I bought this sweet hoops skirt to wear under my wedding dress. I've been wearing it around my house pretending to be Scarlett O'Hara.
