Etsy has really pretty jewelry! A few of my favorites I've seen lately (or ones I've purchased as gifts for friends/family) fave 1, fave 2, fave 3

You said she has a ton of scarves, does she have something more like a cowl? They seem to be super popular lately, and sometimes scarves just don't give you the warmth you want like a cowl does. Here's a cool lookin' one.

Does she have cuddl duds? I have like three pairs and they are the most amazing thing ever. I live in the midwest and pretty sure these are the reason I still have all my limbs after 30+ mins of waiting at bus stops. My favorite is this kind, the 'flexfit' cuz it has a v-neck and has that loop for your thumbs - this would something she'd probably like to wear for running too maybe? They have matching legging/pants version as well.

Some other generic go-to's would be a perfume set from Sephora. The kind that comes with like 10 mini vials and then a voucher for a free full size of whichever you want from the set. Pretty sweet since you don't have to wonder what scent she'd like and even if she already has a fave perfume this gives her a chance to maybe find a new favorite.

This is kind of random, but have you heard of those fruit tablet things that change your taste buds? They sell them here and they're only like $14, I'm giving some as gifts in a gift basket with lemons/limes/grapefruit which from the reviews say they're the most fun to try.

Does she have any TOMS? That's always a great gift. Even in the winter they have different kinds that are more durable rather than the typical slip on TOMS.

A nicer necklace would be great too. My bf got me one from Swarovski for our one year and it was like...the best gift I've ever received. Some of their stuff is kitschy (hello kitty necklaces) but they really have some amazing pendants like this, this, and this.

Does she like reading? A nook could be cool! Or kindle fire, whatever they have out now.

These would be awesome! I've been wanting something like this forever. They were also featured on Shark Tank so that's kind of cool.

How uh...weird is she? This mug looks hilarious. But a more normal & cool looking one would be this!

  1. A good, sharp chef's knife. Nothing fancy, I use a Dexter that I got for like $20 and have it resharpened. You can get a lot nicer, but you don't have to. The first kitchen I ever worked at (20 years ago) used knives almost exactly like this.

  2. A good meat thermometer. I use this one which works similarly to a ThermaPen but without the ridiculous ~$90 cost.

  3. A good cast iron skillet can be pretty versatile. Cast iron holds heat very well, which means that it's great for stuff like searing steaks.

  4. Some cheap, non-stick frying pans. I recommend getting cheap ones because once the coating starts coming off (and it always does at some point, it seems) you're going to throw them away and get new ones. You can spend $300+ like I did once and get high-end stuff like All-Clad or whatever, but even if you're super careful and use only wood and silicone utensils to cook on it, it'll still start peeling its coating, and then All-Clad will say you used metal silverware on it and your warranty is invalid, blah blah blah, and that's more hassle than you need. Just get cheap ones.

  5. Now THIS is where you can spend some legit money. A tri-ply, high quality frying pan without a non-stick coating. These are great for making pan sauces while you cook, etc. I made a chicken, garlic, and olive oil with a red wine vinegar based pan sauce with this pan (well, and some baking dishes) that was incredible. All-Clad is the industry standard but the Tramontina stuff is 1/2 the price or less and built to near the same level of quality.

  6. A nice, enameled Dutch Oven, whether it be from Le Creuset or Tramontina, these are the best for stews, soups, chili...etc. Hold heat forever, well built, and easy to clean.

  7. A good fish spatula, which I almost never use to cook fish. It's actually just the best shape for omelets, eggs, whatever. Flipping anything in a pan with a utensil like this is awesome.

  8. A thick ceramic baking dish for making things like lasagna or casseroles or even just roasting meats/veggies.

  9. Believe it or not, cookie sheets covered with heavy duty aluminum foil are how I do a lot of my oven roasting of small things, like diced veggies or potatoes. They work perfectly and being so large they're able to be spread out so they get roasted on all edges for a little extra flavor. Brussel sprouts & diced bacon in a cast iron skillet to start and then dump them onto this and blast them in the oven at 425 for 15-20 minutes and you'll have a great side dish.

  10. No matter how careful you are, you're going to get something caked on or get a dish so dirty you think it's uncleanable. For that, I recommend Barkeeper's Friend which is an awesome powdered cleaner. Add a little water, use a paper towel and this stuff to make a paste, leave it in the pan for a few minutes, then rinse. I have yet to see this fail. Awesome stuff. Saved some pans.

I'll give a bit of contrary advice/experience. I (37 yo male) had many of the same symptoms (and to a lesser extent still do, which I'll explain). Anyway, I "quit" coffee twice (cold turkey, month of Dec 2017 and Dec 2018) hoping it would be the fix for these, but honestly besides the first week of headaches didn't notice much difference. It was not the "miracle cure" I was hoping it would be. And I still wanted to have a 'hot drink' at hand all the time so re-filled mug with hot-water from the office coffee pot constantly each AM so it was just as compulsive.

You should probably still try and it may be great!! ...but for OPs list of symptoms you almost certainly need to do other things too. Especially increase water, regularly moderate exercise/fresh air, etc. So what did "help" for me?:

  • Intermittent fasting (16:8, where you do 16 hrs fasting or 8pm-noon no food and 8-hr eating (noon-8 pm), with 24-hr on some weekends...you may know about this but this FAQ is v helpful, it is simple https://www.reddit.com/r/intermittentfasting/comments/biygsj/intermittent_fasting_faq/) Helped digestion too.

  • Liver pills (can't decide if those helped or just piggybacked on the other stuff, but they are basically good dose of Vitamin B which is often recommended, sometimes called a B-complex)
  • regular exercise - I joined a $35 free-weight only gym, and do stronglifts 5x5 It is also very simple, and I can tell a difference the months I make it ~9-12 times and the months I make it 0-3 times https://stronglifts.com/5x5/#gref Outdoors, whether or not you are "forest bathing" :) is also obviously great. If anything else if you can get yourself up and out for a 20 min phone free walk before you get ready for day - after a big glass of water - 5 days in a in a row you may be surprised. Could do this before you ty quitting coffee or before you make your coffee if you still debating quitting. Huge help with energy throughout day and "resilience" vs giving up/defeatist by default, also some improvement with posture, tension in back
  • seeing a therapist re: "cognitive behavioral therapy & general (latch onto work projects or home tasks or anything) anxiety" - what flaws in thinking ("cognitive distortions" like catastrophizing (worst case), "thought projections" (my boss is probably thinking I am screwing this up right now...No! he's busy and not thinking of you at all!), ruminating, etc.
    • Much of it similar to the Stoic philosophy stuff ("Man is troubled not by events, but by the meaning he gives them. - Epictetus", know what is in your control and what you need to accept, etc), there is no shortage of this stuff online, like dailystoic, subreddits, etc),
    • personally doing this as a Christian with Catholic-intellectual-tendencies with a Catholic therapist has been helpful (e.g. your mind and body are both good, you aren't a mind trapped in a body etc, but need to undertand interaction and limits, also God's 'Providence (not trouble avoidance) in big picture, while reflecting on parable of the talents for small picture along with the Fr Roncalli/Pope John XXIII "just for today" list which is seriously great: http://www.appleseeds.org/Decalogue_John-23.htm)

Wow, I could have written this. I'm down 54 lbs as of this morning (220 to 166).

First, please check out r/loseit. There are wonderful people over there who absolutely excel at providing advice and support much better than me. You'll see thousands of stories of people just like you (and me) who have been where you are and who are still where you are.

As others have said, motivation fades and sheer determination is what will pull you through. Just take one small step every day. Today, just read a little on r/loseit. Next week, google TDEE and write down what you eat without trying to restrict.

EDIT: OK, now I'm on a computer and can type for real. I'm 35, female, 5' 5" tall (or 1.67 meters) and weighed 158 lbs at 10 yrs old. I've been there. I've been depressed. I've felt worthless. I won't pretend to understand exactly what you're going through, but I think I can relate.

First, let me say congrats on taking a step by posting here. You know you want to change and that's the first thing you have to do - make a decision. The second step is much harder...actually taking the step. You can plan forever and feel like you've accomplished something, but planning doesn't count without action.

Before I type out actual weight-loss advice. I want you to check on one thing - your medication. I'm absolutely not saying you need to go back on it, but please take a hard look at going off and if what you're feeling is related to that. Please, make sure you're working with a doctor to change/go off your medication. You may still be "coming down" from it. I truly don't know the specifics of these things, but I've seen the effects. I've seen too many people go off their medication because they "feel fine" not realizing that it's the medication that creating that feeling. Talk to your doctor, (s)he may say it's normal, maybe you need to try something different, maybe you don't need them any more, but please please please put some hard, rational thought into it. OK PSA over.

I know you're looking for motivation, but motivation fades. And it's not even determination that keeps you going. It's habit, making something so common, so boring, so regular that it feels weird to not be doing it. Measure your food (e.g., servings) until anything more than one serving that looks weird. Walk 15 minutes everyday at 4:45 PM until going a day without it feels weird. By the way, it took me maybe 3 months of dedication for these things to become habit. Make a chart. Do your habits 3 days next week. 4 days the week after that. Work up to 6 or 7. Give yourself gold stars. (No zero days...)

Ok, some concrete things. I'm going to offer a few universal pieces of advice, followed by a few things that worked for me. Take everything with a grain of salt. If I've learned anything, it's that everyone needs to figure out what works for them.

  • Small steps - Please don't go from 2500 calories a day to 1200. You'll fail by dinner. This week, just weigh/measure and write down what you eat and look up the calories. Don't try to cut anything out yet. You need to get a baseline. Maybe all you need to do is cut out the daily Starbucks. Maybe you eat healthy, but too much - cut each serving by 1/4 cups. You won't know unless you figure out where to start.
  • Don't set an "all or nothing" attitude - I'M NEVER EATING SUGAR AGAIN!!! The quickest way to get a stubborn asshole like me to do something (i.e., eat sugar) is to tell me I can't do it. I feel this is a universal issue.
  • CICO - aka Calories in vs. calories out. This is the weight-loss guiding principle. Google and read about total daily energy expenditure (TDEE). The amount of calories you burn in a day. Using 5'5", 21 yrs old, and "sedentary lifestyle" you burn about 2,100 calories by simply sitting on the couch and breathing. To lose weight, you need to take in fewer calories than you burn (calories in vs. calories out - CICO). Period. That's it. A 500 calorie deficit per day = 1 lb lost per week. If you want to eat more, you're going to have to move more. I eat about 1800-2200 calories per day, but I make sure I move a lot too. If I didn't want to exercise so much, I would have to eat less.
  • Be prepared - Have healthy snacks on hand. Have water on you at all times. Know when you're going to a party and may over-indulge (and that's ok). EXPECT THE SCALE TO GO UP AND DOWN. Get your mindset around that now. You will probably drop up to 5 lbs the first week you really go hard at this. That rate won't last, be mentally prepared for that. Here's my daily weigh-ins. Be mentally prepared to gain. lose, and plateau.
  • Stick to it - This is the single most important thing you can do. You fucked up yesterday. It's going to happen. Ate a bowl of brownie batter crying alone in your bed with your cat while watching old Friends re-runs? (My husband is a lucky man). Ok. But this is something you're going to have to fight for a long time. It can't be all or nothing (see above). You have to find a way to pick yourself up and try again. So many times I've said, "well, fuck it. I ate the brownie batter yesterday. What's the point? Might as well just quit. But if you're in this for the long haul, the concept of giving up doesn't make sense. Give up what? My treadmill habit? What's the point.

    Ok some specifics that worked for me.

  • Daily weigh-ins - most people will tell you to weigh yourself weekly or monthly. However, after doing that for years, I would always get discouraged when my weekly weight was higher. I started doing daily weigh-ins and learned to embrace the ups and downs. When you pull back on a year's worth of work it puts everything into perspective. It also helped keep me focused. 2 days up meant suck it up buttercup and put down the peanut buttercup.
  • Take a few before pictures - Take more photos every 10 lbs you lose. I saw results in the photos before I saw them in the mirror.
  • No cheats, just treats - There is no "off limit" food for me. I pretty much eat what I want. Having said that, what I want is to lose weight and what I want to eat is food that will help me do it. I have my treats, but maybe one cookie, not 12. We're going out to dinner tonight so I'm having a light lunch. I'm not "doing" Keto, paleo, vegan, whole30, weight watchers, Facebook milkshake diet. Props to those of you who do, but to me, those are not permanent. And anything that I "go off of" when I'm "done" = massive weight gain post-"diet" in my world.
  • Pick a tracker (MyFitnessPal, FitBit, SparkPeople, excel, whatever) - Most people use MyFitnessPal to track food and weight. I use a combination of SparkPeople, Fitbit, and excel. I like excel. I'm both fat and a nerd (my husband is a lucky guy). Make tracking a habit. If you miss a day, start again tomorrow, MyFitnessPal doesn't care. I get excited to update my spreadsheet. Hell, I'll send it to you if you want (PM me).
  • Start at home - It can be daunting starting something new, luckily we live in the internet age. No one cares if you can't do a 30-min YouTube work out in your basement. No one has to know. People get intimidated by the gym - I was. I still don't go to a gym. But there are millions of workout resources online. You don't need equipment or training or cute workout clothes. You just need 3-4 days per week to form a habit.

    I've become addicted to seeing results and, frankly, it's kinda fun at this point. People notice. I get compliments. I feel proud. You can do this.

    Today is Sunday. Pick one of these things and implement it tomorrow. Download MyFitnessPal. Buy a food scale. Set up a spreadsheet. Take your before photo. Or at least read No Zero Days.

I filled in the first row as an example. Everything else will fill in automatically. You'll need to fill in your goal too if you want it to appear on the table.

    It's up to you to track calories in and out. Like I said, I use my FitBit for this . I also have a cheap fat monitor and started tracking that when I started HIIT workouts and the weight loss slowed. Anyway, add columns, delete those you don't need, and most importantly keep with it!

With fish, I'm a huge fan of white fish so cod is one I like a lot. I used to eat a lot more salmon, but it's harder to find well sourced salmon where I'm at, so I stick to cod if I want it or crave it, but otherwise I'm eating mainly chicken, top sirloin (choice grade, it's leaner, but I try to get grass-fed, this is beef, btw), or sometimes pork chops too.

As for protein shakes, I do drink one (Gold Standard Whey, https://www.amazon.com/OPTIMUM-NUTRITION-STANDARD-Protein-Chocolate/dp/B000QSNYGI?th=1, it is AMAZING and tastes like hot chocolate. Plus it's one of the highest rated out there). I drink it after my workouts normally. If I eat enough protein during the day, I'll cut it down to a half serving instead (:

Also on the topic of measuring food, I usually will weigh my meat before I cook it, but I sometimes forget to, and I'll just weigh it cooked. On MyFitnessPal, there are choices for uncooked vs cooked, so keep an eye out for things like that.

Hey! Congrats on deciding to make a lifestyle change. I just did, too! About to finish week 2 of keto. I’ve lost weight already and feel really great about it! I haven’t followed a specific meal plan, but I have mapped out my grocery lists and stopped eating out at restaurants and strictly cooking my own food, with the exception of 1-2 meals at my restaurant job that I work several shifts a week at. This really helps me count my carbs and calories in the really helpful app Carb Manager.

I feel less bloated without gluten! It’s awesome. I made my first fathead pizza last night with my coworker and friend who went keto too! Having someone else who is willing to undergo the change with me has been more than helpful, especially since my spouse is still eating carbs and sugar in the same apartment as me!

Things that have helped me so far:
-buying a great food scale

-buying an awesome body weight and body fat scale ...this scale comes with an app that shows me statistics like bone density, water weight, body fat %, and weight. It also tracks my progress, shows me healthy/normal levels and percentiles, and more. I really like it. Almost as much as I like watching my weight decrease every few days from keto.

-having a friend or two who are new to keto as well. They have recommended different products to me like:

  1. Skinny girl sweetner
  2. Fiber supplements for when the cheese hits you hard
  3. Tape measurers (simple and common item that won’t deceive you like the scale often can!)

    Personal mantras I remind myself to continue keto in a healthy way:
    -don’t obsess over the scale. NSV pop up daily and they’re sometimes even better than watching the number on the scale drop. It’s not healthy to let your mood rely on scale results. Once a week is enough moderation in terms of weighing yourself. (I’m struggling hard with following this direction myself)

    -make sure you hit your protein quotas! They’re important. You need protein for muscles, and so much more.

    -try not to eat sweets at all for the first few weeks. You need to give your body time to stop craving sugar (and it will happen!)

    -drink a fuck ton of water. It will help you feel less full at first, and you need it especially to keep healthy while your body transitions from eating carbs to eating fat. Water is your new bff.

    -listen to your body. Eat when you’re hungry. If you’re hungry, eat. Don’t starve yourself, you will begin to feel less hungry as you continue on tho. If your eat something that’s keto friendly, but it makes you feel funky, try to feel out different options. You want to feel your best in order to keep up the inspiration to continue!

    -last but not least: TAKE PROGRESS PICS!!! I lurk this sub/weight loss subs constantly and I always see ppl talk about regretting not taking more before pics! Once they reach the time to take after shots, they really wish they had a lot more to compare them to!

Your username just made me burst out laughing, and now people are giving me odd looks. It's fantastic!

Rope is fun, but until he has some time to learn what he's doing with it as far as restraints go an under-the-bed restraint system might be simpler and easier. Spreader bars are awesome too. You can buy (poor quality IMO) ones cheaply, or you can make one by screwing two eyehooks into the ends of a piece of dowel or a broom handle you've cut down to the desired size. Easiest DIY project ever.

Floggers are nice versatile tools, but depending on the user's coordination they can take a bit of practice to aim well. Paddles and riding crops take less practice to hit where you intend, and both are fairly cheap.

If you're new to anal play a butt plug (or several in graduated sizes) could be fun for training even before he gets home (and he would likely enjoy the pictures), and can be used with him as well. Also, good lube. I like gun oil, but there are lots of other good ones on the market. Just ensure that whatever you pick is safe with toys or condoms if you plan to use it with them.

South_in_AZ gave you great book recommendations. If you're separated frequently both of you reading them and then discussing any ideas/thoughts/etc might help you explore what both of you want. Journaling about fantasies, thoughts on what turns you on psychologically, etc, to share could also be a good way of building things even when you guys are long distance.

Hey so I use Small $40 musician ear plugs called Earasers

I found them at Guitar Center, and their the best/most expensive ones there. $40 for one pair is pretty expensive since other brands are half the price, but I really swear by these. I like the simple design and its super easy to put in, take out, and clean. And since its high fidelity earplugs, you can talk to people with them on and the music sounds great. It makes the bass sound good and the high pitched sounds less sharp and painful. But they are just for concerts, because I tried playing drums with these earplugs and it didn’t have enough decibel protection, but for a concert its perfect since you have distance from the band to the crowd.

So if you end up not liking the other brands out there because of their shapes or fit, these Earasers are definitely worth the money. With other ones, sometimes you don’t feel it go enough to plug your ears all the way. But with Earasers, they slide in and fit really snug, and you can adjust how far their in your ear according to how loud you want it.
Because of the texture of the plugs, it easily slides into the ear but it also grabs any earwax with it, so be prepared for some earwax when you take them out. Maybe I have an over abundance of earwax, but what I do is before a concert, I’ll put in the earplugs then take them out and clean all the earwax off and put them back in, basically cleaning my ear and preventing any earwax from being bothersome throughout the concert. Sorry for the TMI haha, but I have been rocking the same pair of Earasers for years and its honestly one of the best purchases ever!

And I don’t work for the company or anything lol, I just go to shows like once a month. I use size Small and anyone else I’ve seen try them said Small fits for them too. Safe travels!

You need to get about 200mg twice (400mg total) if you actually want to have an effect for avoiding jaw clenching(this includes glycinate). I've done extensive research on this subject, and while these are good ingredients, the amounts are just not enough. Another thing is it's not so much about the ingredients, but the timing. So chewing 4+ pieces randomly during the night wouldn't have the same effect as say taking 200mg of Glycinate 2-6 hours before, and 2-6 hours after.

I like the product and what it includes. But like most rave products, it simply doesn't have enough. I can imagine that's hard to do with gum, although it's a neat idea. For those that want convenience they can get this and some extra Glycinate caps for good measure.

If I'm actually wanting to take pre/post roll supplements, I want the studied effective doses. The gum form in this product would create more placebo. But this is in terms of jaw clenching which the product is marketing "eliminates jaw clenching". For antioxidant benefits I think it's fine, although the addition of ALA would have been best.

Personally I'd rather get some mint gum, and bring in a couple magnesium glycinate,grapeseed,VitC caps to take pre/during/post. More expensive, but will last much much longer, and I'd get effective doses. I would assume it's also easier to sneak in. Not trying to knock the product as I think it includes some good stuff. But as a cost effective strategy I don't think so.

ALA, Glycinate, Vit C and/or Grapeseed is enough for a roll. ALA being most important. I'd suggest people just buy this, and get vit c/grapeseed extract to have before sleep. Whatever you have left over can be used for sleep (magnesium before bed improves sleep), or just antioxidant health anyway.

I'd say the 200mg in 4 pieces for grapefruit is perfectly fine, but not the 120mg of Magnesium, it's just simply not enough. ALA would make the biggest difference if one were to roll in terms of protection from neurotoxicity.

I think that's really awesome. I mean, truthfully I don't know how it would affect you (some women say their breasts actually appear larger, some go down in size, some don't really change that much, and yeah just different for each woman), but I definitely don't think it would hurt and hey there's always the added benefit of the rest of your body becoming fit.

And yeah, the gelatin thing is actually crazy cool. Basically gelatin stimulates your body to produce more collagen, which improves the elasticity and helps with sagging skin, stretch marks, and wrinkles (so not only will it help with firming up your breasts but also it can fade stretchmarks-unfortunately some might be permanent and help prevent wrinkles). So yeah definitely really awesome.

So basically what I do is mix 2 tablespoons of Collagen Hydrolysate in chicken broth twice a day. And also I get 2 boxes of the jello mix (the flavor doesn't matter, but it definitely is better to get the sugar free kind) and only use the boiling water to mix it (so only use half the water that it says) and eat it as snack.

But again this is just what has helped me, so I don't know if any of this would actually help or not, but I hope it will be able to. :)

Well, first you'll need to get some restraints. These are really good for beginners and at 14 dollars that's a hell of a bargain, I paid like 40 for mine.

Then, just ask him what he wants specifically and fulfill to the best of your ability. Communication is key here. For instance he might want to be tied a certain way (those restraints give quite a few options), he might prefer a certain style (hard vs soft), he might like toys like feathers. Don't be afraid to ask him what he likes and what he wants from the experience. Do your best to make him feel comfortable sharing this moment with you. Guys can be self conscious about this type of thing sometimes and the more he feels like you're willing to be accommodating and the less he feels like you may think it's weird or off putting or whatever, the better. I'm not saying you would do that intentionally, just that it's important that he feels comfortable and like you're both having fun with it.

As for surprising him, maybe get the bed all set up and ready to go with the restraints, light some candles if you want, throw on something sexy and tell him you have a surprise for him in the bedroom. But that's really up to you and what you feel comfortable with and what you think he'd like.

I'm sorry you're going through this, OP. I have terrible constipation as well and the bloating is one of the worst symptoms for me. It's such an uncomfortable feeling. I'm by no means cured, but I've tried several things that have really helped. Especially with my bloating. I recommend looking into these.

 

NOW Probiotic: This is one of the best probiotics in my opinion and is a must if you have IBS. I take one capsule 30 minutes before eating and it helps reduce my stomach pan and improves my digestion. This is one of the things that has made the most difference.

 

Chamomile: I take this after I finish eating. It settles down my stomach and reduces the likelihood of me experiencing stomach pain after eating. I take it not just after eating, but also whenever my stomach acts up. It almost always relieves any sort of stomach discomfort I'm experiencing. Chamomile is particularly good for improving digestion, reducing gas and bloating, and promoting smoother and more frequent bowel movements. If you experience any anxiety, which is pretty common among people with IBS, chamomile can really help with that as well. It's a mild sedative and is very calming. It's useful for lowering anxiety as well as improving sleep issues like insomnia.

 

High Absorption Magnesium: Most people have some level of magnesium deficinecy. People often don't eat foods that are high in magnesium and to make matters worse, things like sugar, caffeine, and certain medications, can lower your magnesium levels. Magnesium is a very important mineral and getting enough magnesium can help you feel less constipated and help you have smoother bowel movements. It's also good for lowering anxiety as well.

 

NOW Candida Support: It's believed that some some people with IBS may have candida overgrowth. CO can contribute to IBS symptoms. This supplement does a good job of managing this. I take 2 capsules with a meal.

 

Senna: Senna is a mild, but effective herbal laxative. I take one capsule 2 to 3 times a day and I've been having bowel movements a lot more often and I'm not as constipated. My doctor had me on Miralax previously, but I switched to senna because Miralax was too strong and harsh. It would help me poop, but I would poop too much. So much that it was even painful. Senna is far less harsh.

 

Triphala: I take triphala right before bed and I'm usually able to have a bowel movement once I wake up the next morning. It helps the liver and kidneys do a better job of detoxifying the body. It may help kill certain bacteria that could be contributing to your IBS. It seems to work because I noticed that all my acne cleared up and my skin looked so much smoother when I started taking triphala.

 

Besides these supplements, a diet change can lower the chance of your IBS symptoms triggering. I personally like a gluten-free diet because it's not as strict and difficult to follow as some other IBS diets. Gluten is one of my biggest bloating triggers and avoiding it when I can really helps.

Hey bro sorry for the long wait on the reply.

Here's the short and sweet on supplements:

Whey: Whey Protein is a type of protein extracted from milk. There's whey, whey isolate and hydrolized whey. It literally does not make a fuck which one you get. Drink whey shakes to hit your protein macros (100+g a day according to IIFYM which I told you about. This is what I use. It's really popular. You don't have to buy a jug this big if you don't want.

Fish Oil: This is an Omega-3 Fatty Acid. Older people take it because it promoted heart health. Lifters take it for the same reason but it also helps promote lean mass gain. You can get this from your regular diet but you probably won't unless you eat a fuckton of Fish. You can find bottles of it in the Vitamin section of any store.

Multivitamin: This is all the shit you don't pay attention to on nutrition labels. Calcium, Iron, Vitamin A, B C D E K, Zinc etc. You can get all the vitamins from your diet if your diet is super super clean but I most people don't eat perfectly. Hell, I eat out with coworkers sometimes. Also find this in the vitamin section of your grocery store. 120 tablets of Centrum multivitamin for men is like 10 bucks.

Zinc: Zinc raises testosterone. Period. If you have low sex drive or any reason to think your T is low, buy extra Zinc and take it with your multivitamin.

Creatine: Your muscles have three energy sources: Carbs, Glycogen, Fat. Lifting burns through Carbs and Glycogen really fast and using Fat as an energy source to lift is really inefficient. However Creatine also gets stored in your muscles and can be used as another energy source, increasing your lifts. If you start taking creatine you will have noticeable strength gains within 10 days.

Gear: Don't take gear. Unless you're willing to sacrifice your health to get huge fast.

Source: I was a 5'11 210lb chubster. I cut down to ~160 then bulked alllll the way back to ~182 where I am now. It's a long, long process but you will get there and it is so, so worth it.

Forced orgasm is just that - an orgasm brought on by unrelenting stimulation to the genitals. I don't know that there is really a best way that covers everyone since everyone's bodies are unique and respond differently.

Ultimately intelligent training and proper recovery and mobility work will give probably the biggest benefit to your joints. However when bodyweight training or simply aiming to be healthier it is important to have low levels of inflammation. Glucosamine can help but a solid omega 3 supplement would be similar. I'd personally recommend the following as a joint stack.

Collagen - Can by in a collagen hydrolysate form which is powdered (here) or simply drink a good bone/chicken broth daily. Collagen is the most abundant protein in your body and the one found in your joints. among other places. I'd recommend 10g a day, you can add to shakes or even cups of tea or coffee as it is heat stable. Alternatively drink 1-2 cups of bone broth a day. I personally have the bone broth daily and collagen every now and again.

Omega 3/Cod Liver Oil - To generally lower inflammation. I prefer a good cod liver oil, like this as it comes with those good omega 3's and a load of fat soluble vitamins like A, D, E, K2 etc. I take 1 tsp daily. Consuming oily fish daily can give the same effect.

Curcumin Phytosome - Curcumin is a turmeric extract that is a very powerful anti-inflammatory, I personally take this daily and feel huge help with inflammation compared to when I don't. 500mg of a good extract daily. Consuming just turmeric isn't as good as you'd have to take like 20g of it, it's also not particularly well absorbed.

Vitamin C - This helps your body synthesize it's own collagen. Buy it in a crystal form of L-Ascorbic acid. Would recommend 1-3g daily taken throughout the day.

Generally have a good diet that is low in inflammatory foods, like grains (wheat, oats, barley), pasteurized dairy, seed oils (rapeseed/canola, sunflower), processed foods and sugar, but high in oily fish, good quality meat, nuts, seeds, vegetables, fruit and raw dairy :)

Sounds like you have a pretty classic case of ADHD... Which, as you said, there is no quick fix.

  • Typical ADHD suggestions are make a routine/schedule and follow it, every single day. As soon as you don't, you tend to fall a few massive steps backward.

  • Meditation is huge for those with ADHD, it helps with focus and the anxiety.

  • Also reward systems... Constantly remind yourself to focus, and when you do, give yourself some form of personal reward.

  • SLEEP, fix your sleep patterns. Following the schedule you made will greatly help with this. A lot of ADHD individuals have the problem of both falling and staying asleep. Which means you get very little REM sleep, which shits on your memory, and takes a huge toll on your focus/alertness.

    As far as mitigating the changes your amph made to your body:

  • I would suggest supplementing Tyrosine to replace the dopamine stores that were under constant stress while taking your meds. It's rate limited, so it doesn't really matter how much you take, it will only make what you need. So if your body is still behind in DA production, you will notice a definite change. Otherwise, you won't notice anything, and that means you probably don't need to supplement it.

  • A magnesium supplement, as you said, is amazing for the TMJ you experience during and after amph. But it also helps with sleep and overall tissue Mg+ stores. This is important as amph uses up your Mg+ stores like crazy. It also has a large calming effect that will help your anxiety. However, don't use citrate, it's primarily a laxative... While citrate will raise your blood Mg+ levels, a giant portion of it will be shat out. I would suggest glycinate, personally. You also have to be aware of the brand you're using. Some brands only MIX elemental Mg+ with some form of protein, which basically means that in the bottle, it's "magnesium citrate/glycinate/etc", but they're not bound together. This reduces the bioavailability to be complete shite.   • I would also suggest N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC), it will help with obsessive/ritualistic behaviors, which will also help with anxiety etc. It is also a strong antioxidant and helps the liver... Amazing to take before drinking. Some people are making a big fuss right now about the pulmonary effects of it, but I've been using it for quite a while with no issues.

  • I also take a choline supplement before bed (Alpha-GPC), it has GREATLY helped with reaching REM sleep, and also the staying asleep factor.

  • Melatonin is another antioxidant and helps with sleep a lot.

  • Fish oil, 600mg+ PER capsule minimum, with a higher content of EPA to DHA (I shoot for a 2:1 ratio). It helps with the stress your heart was under, great for overall health, and helps with focus issues.

  • Theanine, especially if you're a coffee drinker (which most people with ADHD are). Helps with stress, overall calms you down. It's also amazingly synergistic with caffeine.

To give you a more detailed answer, here's what you'll need:

  • A soldering iron, like this one

  • CR2032 battery holders (I've used [these] (https://m.ebay.com/itm/10pcs-Plastic-CR2032-CR2025-Cell-Button-Lithium-SMD-Lead-Battery-Socket-Holder-/111611684009) successfully in the past)

  • CR2032 batteries (you can find these at just about any grocery store)

  • A 3.8mm Gamebit bit or screwdriver depending on what you already have

  • Some good heat resistant gloves probably

  • Not required (I've so far done all of my own replacements without this) but definitely helpful: a "helping hand" like this one

  • Patience

    If you're at all worried about doing this, I can tell you that, having no prior experience to soldering, I've successfully replaced batteries on 8 of my own carts without damaging any of them. You can do it!

  1. Start by taking the two 3.8mm Gamebit screws out of the front of the cartridge and removing the plastic shell. Since you have the board out, now would also be a good time to clean it and the plastic. Use soap and water on the plastic (letting it dry thoroughly) and isopropyl alcohol on the board's gold contracts (where it plugs in).

  2. Heat up your soldering iron by just plugging it in, resting it on its stand, and leaving it for a few minutes. IT WILL GET VERY HOT, DON'T TOUCH IT. To test if it's hot enough, just put your hand near it. You should be able to feel the heat coming off it if it's warm enough.

  3. Begin removing the old battery. Locate it on the board, then find the two corresponding points on the back of the board where it connects. Also, take note of the polarity of the connections; the tab that runs from the top of the battery down is the positive end, the bottom is the negative. Start heating one of the contacts while pulling up on the battery away from the board (this is where those gloves and helping hand come in handy) Once you've got one end out, go for the other one.

  4. Take your battery holder and (if you're buying the ones I linked) bend the tabs so they're perpendicular to the holder itself. I used tweezers to do this. Be careful not to bend too much, or you may snap the metal tab off! (I've done that more than once...) Once you've done that place a fresh battery in the holder

  5. Now comes the hard part: putting the new battery holder in. Remember the orientation the old battery went it, and orient the new one in the same fashion. If you forgot how the old one went in, the two tabs are actually different sizes, so you shouldn't be able to put it in the holes if you've got wrong. Proceed to heat the solder under one of the tabs until it flows again and slide the tab into it. You may have to alternate back and forth to get it in fully, but by the end the holder should sit flush against against the board

  6. Place the board back into the plastic and screw the screws back in. One note about bigger boards (like the Yoshi's island cart you have): some plastic pieces may interfere with the board when you put it back in. One thing you could consider doing to remedy this is using a file to scrape away some of that plastic if you don't mind doing that to a cart or (preferably) the holder. Also something to note, Yoshi's Island and other Super FX carts have metal tabs on the plastic of the cartridge that act as a ground by touching the outside of the cartridge slot. If this isn't placed back properly, your cartridge may not boot, so that's one thing to check if that's the case after reassembly. Now, congratulate yourself. You've done it! Give yourself a pat on the back and get back to gaming. Good luck with 100%! :)

They are available on Thinkgeek as well. I did this one year, you address the packet of tablets to "everyone", and then wrap a lemon and/or lime for each person. The tablets, when dissolved on your tongue, make sour things taste sweet, so you can have a mini taste party. It's pretty cool and yummy, it makes a fresh lemon taste like sweet lemonade. Again, not very meaningful, and people will go "huh?" when they open the lemon, but once they try it it can be fun and something cool to experience. Supposedly the tablets are also pretty good for anyone that might need to keep away from sugar, because they can make things taste sweet without adding any sweetener.

To share my personal experience, I recently completed a 10 day fast; the early days were the easiest for me, and then my energy started to decline significantly on the 5th. Days 6 - 10 were a downward trend of lethargy, weakness, lighthead/dizziness, and constant nausea. I was disappointed that I couldn't stick it out for the full 21 days that I had intended, but going through that experience and feeling like it wasn't going to turn around was enough to tell me that it was time to stop. What helped was knowing that it wasn't derailed by the desire to eat, and it wasn't psychological (like a lack of willpower). It just happened that my body wasn't coping well and I didn't feel that it was in my best interest to endure for much longer. So for me, that was the best indicator of knowing when it's time to stop - and to that end, I recommend that people start off by doing shorter fasts first to see how their body adapts, particularly because the benefits of fasting tend to peak around the 72 hour mark.

To try to mitigate any potential issues or side effects from the fast, try supplementing electrolytes - particularly sodium. What works best for me is to either dissolve Celtic Sea Salt on my tongue, or take small sips of Pickle Juice. For potassium, NoSalt has a good amount per serving and can be mixed with water and taken as a shot. For magnesium, you can take it in pill form, a lotion/spray, or by soaking your feet in Epsom Salt. The latter two will be most beneficial on longer fasts. But supplementing sodium starting on the 2nd day of my own fasts has made me feel better (less brain fog, improved mood). The most beneficial amount, based on a recommendation provided on the Fasting Talk podcast, was discussed here.

Hey bud! I've been to my fair share of shows, and I saw Animal Collective back in 2013 in Madison, WI. Some tips about concerts and how to enhance your experience:

Earplugs are a must. These are the pair I own, and they work super well; I go to a wide variety of shows in different sized venues (ty Minneapolis) and I've worn those every time. I used to go earplugless, but when I went to see TOBACCO last year, some shoegaze band opened for them and they were literally the loudest fucking thing I've ever heard, ran to get some earplugs, and it was still painfully loud. Some bands like to crank it, generally AnCo keeps it on the lower end but it's never a bad idea to invest in saving your hearing. That's the end goal, isn't it?

When I saw AnCo, I went solo. Senior year of high school, travelled 50 miles on a Wednesday night to see em. Met some really cool guys at the show, shot the shit. Chances are, there's gonna be a fair amount of weed in the crowd. Toke if you want, but some venues are super vigilant while others really don't give a shit.

My general rule of thumb is to get there a bit before doors for a band I either really really love or a show that's gonna attract a big crowd so I can get up front. I'd follow this if you want to be right up against the stage, or at least be there around doors if you want the authentic 9th-row-in-the-pit experience. Being pushed far back kinda sucks, especially if there's an NBA player-sized person standing right in front of you.

Pretty much just go there, scream the lyrics, dance your ass off and vibe. There's gonna be quite a few pretentious hipsters who stand off to the side and just stoically watch them while sneering at anyone who dances. Fuck em, dancing to the boys was one of my best memories. Don't think drunk assholery will be an issue, but pretty much every single show I've been to has involved me being stuck next to someone who can't handle their liquor, be it tiny women at Beach House forcing their way to the front of the stage halfway through the set (and literally standing sideways, wedged between me and my friend) or some large, leather-coat-wearing fuckwad at Com Truise who has been sexually harassing as many women as possible. If you spot one nearby, don't let them harsh your mellow. If they're bumpin into you a lot and you want them to stop, just tell them to give you some space while being as smiley and polite as possible and they'll usually wander off. If they get aggressive, just push towards another spot in the crowd. I doubt there'll be many bad drunks in the crowd, but it never hurts to be a lil mentally prepared.

EDIT: Oh yeah, download a Mad Libs app on your phone. Play it with the people standing near you when you're waiting in line/between bands, it's a perfect icebreaker and it's pretty fun.

I'm not saying you're going to have the same results, but here's my story.

I recently saw my nutritionist after 61 days of keto. I brought my bloodwork which had been taken the day before. Everything except my LDL cholesterol was fantastic. I mean perfect. Great kidney function, great liver function. Really good HDL. My LDL was 163, but I've always had elevated cholesterol (even when I was a vegetarian).

Now - I work out 45 - 60 mins a day, 4 days a week so part of this might be from just plain good livin', but I've lost a solid ten pounds during my time with keto. I had stalled out (I've lost about 60 lbs in the past 2 years), and keto was the ticket to get things going again. I'm getting close to my goal weight, so 10 lbs of weight loss in 2 months is a really big deal for me.

I've had exactly one day where I ate more than about 50 grams of carbs. Every other day of the past 60-ish has been pure keto. I have not suffered from the dreaded hangover. Some pointers:

  • ElectroMix is your best friend. Drink that with 25 oz of water when you get up in the morning, every single morning.

  • Shoot for 125 oz of water per day. Minimum. MIN. I. MUM.

  • Take a b-complex vitamin and a few potassium pills in addition to the ElectroMix in the morning.

  • At night, right before bed, take a calcium/magnesium pill. Don't take the magnesium in the morning or with food or it'll clean you out. This is the dreaded "keto fart effect".

  • An avocado a day keeps the cravings away. Eat one after lunch / before dinner. Perfect snack. A lil' salt and pepper and you're good to go.

  • Add cheese to everything. Making eggs? Add cheese. HEY - tuna salad? Throw some cheese on that bitch. Eating your avocado? Add that cheese, son! Cheese is your god now.

  • If you're in the good ole U-S-of-A, remember that you're usually looking at total carb counts on labels, not net carbs. Keto is concerned with net carbs.

  • Need a boost? Try Spark Energy from Advocare. It has some carbs, but not the sugar and other stuff that's really bad for you. I cut a few carbs from my day to make room for this when I have a really hard workout. Yes it's a bit pricey.

  • Miss your macros for a day? Don't sweat it. Try and stay close, but don't freak out if you're missing your macro by a gram or ten.

  • A month or two of keto won't kill you no matter what your nutritionist/mother/priest/parole officer might tell you. Just get started and you'll see the difference pretty quickly.

    Anyway - just my story. YMMV.

Not exactly related, but some tips I've found helpful:

Feeling Dehydrated? These do the trick! I drink at least one packet a day and it works wonders.

Constipated? Spoonfuls of flaxseed or chia seeds help (they're low calorie and have only fiber & good fats). Psyllium Husk Powder is also pretty effective. Having trouble washing it down? I mix 2tbsp of powder with 3-4tbsps of heavy cream, dash of cinnamon, maybe some splenda and its like eating oatmeal.

Don't notice any progress? Keep calm and keto on. Have faith, log your food in MFP, and take progress pics. You look at yourself in the mirror everyday. Sometimes, its hard to see the progress. Sometimes, it doesn't show on the scale. But, damnit, this diet works. Stay under 20g of carbs and run a daily calorie deficit and youre bound to lose some weight.

Lastly, enjoy the improved energy and focus after your body adapts. It' wonderful and probably my favorite part of keto. If you feel off, you're probably just dehydrated.

Hey girl! Congrats on losing the first 50lb! That's amazing!! Here are some notes for you, based on your post:

  1. You cannot target any part of your body for fat loss. Carb cycling is no more helpful than any other method of weight loss in terms of reducing belly fat. Genetics is the only factor that determines where you will lose fat first, which, unfortunately, we have no control over.

  2. In order to get a flat stomach, you will need to drop your total body fat %, and not necessarily your weight. (Many women actually end up gaining weight to get a flatter stomach, believe it or not!) This is because muscle weighs more than fat, meaning that 1 lb of fat takes up a lot more space (volume) than 1 lb of muscle. Because of this, I would highly recommend you stop weighing yourself. You can buy a BF% scanner on amazon for $30 if you want to track your numbers, but honestly, the best way to judge your progress is to take photos and go by how your clothes fit.

  3. Diet is 80%. Exercise is 20%. Yes, I would recommend lifting heavy, and starting a workout program (see side bar). But more importantly, I would recommend cleaning up your diet. As in nixing processed food. As in, if the ingredients list has more than 10 items listed, or things you can't pronounce, then don't eat it. Flat stomachs are made in the kitchen.

As nice as cast iron is, if you ever want to make any kind of pan sauce after you've cooked your protein that might involve wine or vinegar or lemon juice, you'd be out of luck. I'd go with a good, heavy traditional-finish skillet with some sort of clad construction for optimal even heating across the surface. As far as that sticking issue goes, you don't have to use as much oil as long as your skillet is already heated before you put any food in it. In some cases (not all), meat in a traditional finish skillet will stick at first but release from the surface right around the time it's supposed to be flipped or turned, which is perfectly normal anyway.

One of the other perks of a traditional finish skillet is fond -- a.k.a., the stuck-on brown bits left in the pan after you've cooked your food. All those brown (not blackened, that's too far) bits = flavorful awesomeness, and are key in making a good pan sauce to go with whatever you're making. Deglaze the pan with a bit of broth or wine or whatever and scrape up the brown bits with a wooden spoon, throw some butter and herbs in there, baby, you got a sauce goin'. (Plus, this makes cleaning the pan later a lot easier, since you're using what would otherwise be "mess" to your advantage.")

Problem is, good-quality stainless steel skillets are expensive, and the drop-off in price represents a really steep drop-off in quality, which would of course give you worse results in cooking and make you less likely to want to use one anyway. One thing to watch out for is skillets with disk bottoms, where the only place the manufacturers put the highly conductive aluminum core which appears in most stainless steel cookware in a disk on the bottom of the skillet. These are the cheapest options, but the problem is the sides of the pan don't heat up as evenly or as well as the bottom, which results in uneven cooking if you're using the entire surface of the pan. Better to go with a "clad" pan -- one in which the entire skillet is made out of a layer of aluminum sandwiched between stainless steel. Better conduction, more even heating, better performance, better food. Yes, clad skillets are more expensive (~$110 versus ~$50 for a disk bottom), but 1) Cooking.com, etc. run sales on these things all the time, and 2) as long as you take good care care of them (Bar Keeper's Friend works wonders for me), there's no reason why they shouldn't last a lifetime -- definitely worth the investment.

Great thinking! I'll give you my experience with the ones I've used.

First I bought this set from Etymotic for myself and my Croo years ago. For the price they're great and served me quite well at local shows and Roo alike until I lost them at Roo in 2016 (luckily I always carry disposable ones too in case anyone around me in the crowd wants a pair so I wasn't deaf by the end of that Roo). I liked them for the price and the carrying case however they did have some issues like their odd fit for some folks.

After losing the Etymotic's at Roo in 2016 I bought this set from Eargasm pretty much as soon as I got home. They're a bit pricier than the Etymotic's but well worth the price in my opinion. They come with a large and small in ear insert in order to ensure a good fit for most and instead of using a tube and dampening materials like the Etymotic's the Eargasm's actually have a tiny filter that makes for much more even tones/sounds. They also come with a much better carrying case and have yet to have an issue with them in the ~2.5 years I've had them.

Side note about the Eargasm's, their carrying case is a tiny metal canister that comes equipped with a keychain and I take them to every show I go to, I mention this because the canister does look like something you'd house party favors in so the security may have you open the canister up so they can inspect it. I've also found the canister sets off metal detectors so if you do attempt to get through using it as a party favor holder it may come back to bite you. Just figured I'd give you a heads up there since I've gotten many strange looks from security and fellow show goers alike until I open them up and pop the plugs in.

I too started losing recently (on my way down from 6'3" 313 to 270 now) Here are some things that are helping me:

I started doing a healthier/vegetarian rendition on this:

Plenty of leftovers too, so you won't have too cook for a while. Take leftovers of healthy meals as portable foods. As far as snacks go: 100 cal popcorn packs and almonds are favorites of mine. They have different flavored almonds in most supermarkets as well (wasabi soy are my favs) Also, fresh fruits and veggies cut up and in individual portion are great for quick on the go snacks. FiberOne bars are great and relatively healthy as well.

You can get an electronic scale at any big box store (e.g. target/walmart)

I also picked up a body fat calculator and a fabric measuring tape, which is a great way to track your progress. Sometimes your weight won't drop, but the inches and body fat percentage will:

I just graduated with a degree in engineering (and started in grad school) so i'm a HUGE numbers geek. I chart all of my progress, whether it is good or bad in a spreadsheet. I plot all of my numbers, by date, against a trend line (such as a weightloss goal of 2-3 lbs/week). I feel like it makes a huge difference in your outlook on things. Eventually you will get to the point where you are trying to get below that expected progress line. And whenever you are feeling like you have plateaued, just go to the progress and see how many inches/lbs you have lost.

Also, take pictures of yourself before you start. You don't have to show them to anyone or post them anywhere if you dont want to, but in 3-6 months when you have lost weight but you dont think you look any different, take more pictures and compare. Trust me, you wont regret it, and you will always have a reminder of where you started and where you don't want to be again.

Exercise: check out r/fitness and I would recommend a c25k or c210k program if you are interested in running.

Advice: Don't give up! Everyday that you make an effort to be healthier is a step in the right direction.

First - Babygate all the way. Your 4 year old can get into so much dangerous trouble running around the house on their own. Hell no.

Second - I got a clock that turns colors. It's dark blue (and doubles as a nightlight) when it's sleepy time and turns yellow when it's time to wake up. (You program it and can have different bed and wakeup time for the weekends)


When she was four years old: I closed the baby gate and she was told NOT COME OUT OF HER ROOM OR MAKE NOISE UNTIL THE CLOCK IS YELLOW. It mostly worked.

Now that she is 5 she is not allowed to get out of her bed unless she has to go the bathroom until the clock is yellow. She also may not make noise or wake me up unless it's an emergency - and we talked about what those are.

Then, after she is asleep each night, I put a flashlight and her books near her bed. If she wakes up before the clock is yellow she can read quietly. If she makes nose, I take the books AND make her lay their quietly until the clock is yellow. It works beautifully.

There are two kinds of clocks and I recommend the more simple version and an open box version from the manufacturer.

The clock is available on Amazon, but I bought a used one directly from the manufacturer. I bought it 4 years ago and it's worked perfectly and looked perfect since the day I go tit.

My next recommendation is the Dhom Classic Sound Machine - it's really the best one. My daughter started sleeping far deeper and far longer when I got a white sound machine on the recommendation of my pediatrician. It's the kind they use in therapy offices. It really does fill up the whole room with white noise - I can barely even hear the garbage trucks on garbage day. The bonus is that if it's going in her room, I can have an adult conversation or watch a "bang bang shoot 'em up" type movie without her listening in and the noises of the house don't keep her up. I don't have to TIPTOE until she's asleep! WOOT! Privacy is divine when you live in a small place!

This is my iron. There are many like it, but this one is mine. It's not a great iron, it's a good enough iron, and you can get replacement tips pretty cheap. (I'm actually wanting to upgrade to a $150 Weller, but my iron still works fine. I want better heat control and thermal capacity, but this is one of those "if you can't explain why you need it, you don't need it yet" things.) I also bought this tip cleaner on the same order apparently, I prefer it to a sponge but it's not necessary.

This is the solder I bought most recently. It's honestly a little on the thick side, and multi-core would be better, but it was cheap and works fine. Without the rosin, you'd need flux; they etch the metal to remove the oxide layer that naturally forms and would inhibit a good joint. Thin solder melts faster and gives you more control over how much you apply.

There's other stuff that isn't strictly necessary, but is useful. I have a heat antistatic may on my work bench, and a cheap fume extractor set up behind it; I won't bother linking it because it doesn't have any kind of filter in it. The rosin smoke and the lead are both kinda toxic, so a well-ventilated area and/or a good fume extractor are important. I also keep flux paste, desoldering wick, a solder sucker, and a set of helping hands on my workbench, but I use all that stuff because I do a fair bit of electronics work, YMMV.

For references, Dave of EEVBlog fame has a three part tutorial on soldering which covers all the bases pretty well. He'll also leave you saying "sohldah" instead of "sodder," which is a fun way to annoy American EEs.

Edit: This is my workbench, for reference since I'm in that room right now. There's heat shrink on the helping hands, a trick I straight up stole from /u/bulbufet. It keeps the alligator clips from digging into wires, though the heat shrink has to be replaced periodically as the teeth will eventually work their way through it. And if you don't want to slap together a solder holder out of MDF, you can buy them, but where's the fun in that?

There's people that say having a good amount of protein within 30 minutes of a workout helps with recovery, since right after a workout, apparently your body absorbs protein better. Protein powder is just a quick and easy way of getting this. There's also some people who say this isn't necessarily true, and overall protein intake matters more.

As far as types of protein, whey isolate is the most popular since it's the most efficient. By efficient, I mean that it's pretty much all protein, about 90%, and apparently is absorbed quickly. There's also whey concentrate, which is cheaper than whey isolate, but can have less protein and more carbs (from more lactose) per scoop.

The plant based proteins I'm not very familiar with, but through a quick search on Amazon, it looks like soy protein will have higher carbs than whey, and hemp has lower protein, but a good bit a fiber and healthy fats. If you're looking to just get protein, stick with whey unless you're vegan.

All in all, if you're getting the protein you need already, I wouldn't worry too much about a shake. But if you want to boost your protein, a post-workout shake won't hurt, and possibly might benefit you.

If you decide to use protein powders, this is the one I use. It's reviewed very well, has a good amount of protein (1 scoop is 120 cal, 3g carbs, 1g fat, 24g protein), and I think tastes pretty good. It comes out to about 78 cents per serving, so in my opinion, it's really not that expensive.

I use this calculator from the Mayo Clinic. According to that, if you are completely inactive 1600 calories a day will maintain your current weight. So if you consume, 1100 calories a day you will lose one pound per week (3500 calories per pound). You can eat a bit more and you'll simply lose weight at a slightly slower rate. Just never go above 1600 calories in a day.

Finding foods that taste good is key to success. I make a shake with the extreme milk chocolate flavor of this protein powder and soy milk. It is delicious. It literally tastes like a chocolate milkshake (as the Amazon reviews confirm), but is really good for you. Low calorie and high in protein. Another dish I make are these beans with garlic powder and other spices. Sometimes I add rice, but not too much (because rice are pure carbs). These beans are high in fiber and protein, so they are perfect. And the spices make the whole thing taste really good. The full receipe is here. The whole dish only costs $1.30 a meal and you can literally have all the ingredients shipped to your door from Amazon. Another tip is that if you drink, you can use the website Get Drunk Not Fat to make efficient choices about what you drink. :) Finally, be sure to take a multivitamin to make sure you get all the nutrients you need even though you have a calorie deficit.

Eat smart and the pounds will fly off in no time. I find the Hall of Fame to be really awesome motivation. With each pound you lose it will become easier to stay away from the bad stuff. Then once you are at your goal weight, you can start to eat more calories because then you just need to maintain. You don't have to be perfect, you just need to make smart choices overall. You can do it, I promise. :)

This is the collagen I add to my coffee. It dissolves completely, so it is completely invisible in drinks - the only effect is that one tablespoon will add 20 cals, but it's well worth it! Here's a quick write up I found about it, too - I think this stuff is amazing! I've been using it daily for around five months, and the benefits have been phenomenal! My skin/hair/nails are sooo strong - I've had so many comments, even Mr Unobservant whom I live with has noticed and started using it too! There's been other benefits too - the dodgy digestion is getting stronger, and my soon-to-be middle aged joints feel much less creaky. All in all, total awesomeness!

Also, we recently had a talk with MIL regarding her obsessive purchasing of foods for us - and this week she rather proudly presented us with a massive bulk bags of nuts, mixed seeds, and cranberries, instead of the usual chocolates, sweets and frozen processed foods she likes to get us. I take 150mg in the morning and 50mg at night along with 100mg of Zonisamide; I was originally on only 300mg of Z, but after a year of bad side effects with that I decided to give Lamictal a try.

I started off at 25mg in the morning, then 25mg morning and evening, then 50 morning/25 evening and so on until I was at 100/100. I realized (through some helpful comments here!) that the nighttime doses were probably the source of my tiredness; I asked my neuro if it'd be okay to move to 150mg morning/50mg night, and he said okay. (This was on top of 300mg Z; I titrated that down afterwards).

The side effects I noticed (in order) were:

  • Increased logical skills (Z kinda dumbed me down; L would actually help me out some) Immediately

  • Dry eyes, skin, general dehydration After reaching 100mg

  • Difficulty sleeping (happens when you take an upper before bed) After reaching ~150mg daily

  • Some minor side-vision hallucinations - just stuff like thinking you saw something in the corner of your eye, then turning and realizing it was just a figment. Honestly, I still have this sometimes, but it's easy to deal with (imo). ~2 weeks after reaching 200mg daily

    I've been on 200mg Lamictal since about mid-July. The sleep issues are getting better, the dry skin is still sort-of an issue, but I get this stuff on a subscription, 3 every 2 months, which is basically like drinking gatorade every day but much cheaper.

    I know the part about hallucinations sounds a little crazy, but not everyone gets them and when they do occur, they're extremely minor and I hear they do go away after a few months. Mine have seemed to be fading.

    Overall though, I'm under great control, and very happy - compared to other meds' side effects, lamictal is great.

Hey man, I myself am struggling pretty hard with PMO as well so I can't really help ya with that.

But, I have figured out most other things in my life and here are some really clear, really concise points:

  • Start working out. Here is a great intro program, ICF 5x5. Follow it exactly and take it slow, also invest in some protein.

  • Eat healthy. Essentially cut out soda and anything with sugar as the main ingredient should be a good start. Beyond that make sure you eat your macros (fat/proteins/carbs) and lots of em; if you're working out the more the merrier.

  • Try meditating, I've only done it for a couple weeks but already I've noticed huge mental gains. Key with this is consistency, just like working out and diet keep doing day after day.

    All in all man you're young, amazingly young. It's your greatest strength. Nows the time to mold yourself into the person you want to be. Using the internet you can draft off of the experiences of so many others; always be curious, always takes chances, and above all else never be afraid to walkaway.

In general, supplements are an expensive band-aid, and not a real long term solution.

The only things I supplement are:

Otherwise I just save bones, make bone broth, always have the skin on chicken and slow cook organ meats like beef heart and chicken heart and giblets a longs with some carrots, celery and lots of spices. I use seasoned salt and lite-salt on baked meats for my sodium and potassium. As long as salt tastes good, you can continue having it. As long as it’s not hidden by sugar you’ll know when you’ve had enough. Sodium and magnesium are very safe, though potassium is the one you don’t want to overdo. “The salt fix” is an excellent book on how necessary it is to health and how it doesn’t cause cardiovascular disease. For slow cooking, it’s best to add salt “to taste” at the end or when served to prevent accidentally adding a awful tasting amount.

I started keto because of depression and anxiety, and successfully resolved both those issues (as well as other things like putting my blood pressure from “almost to high” to “normal”). Magnesium should dampen the anxiety within a day or three.

yeah being so young doesnt help. benzos are sort of seen as a last resort. they dont just throw them around, well good doctors dont at least.

when you say different pdoc everytime, are you going to the same building/network, or are you actually switching to an entire new office every time? the latter is called drug seeking. even the way you talk to your doctor may come across as drug seeking. you have to realize how many people they deal with everyday that are trying to finesse them for benzos. especially your age

ssris are not just "antidepressants" they are also used for anxiety, as are other classes of meds. there are several classes used for anxiety (like ssris), as well as other classes of meds used "off label" for anxiety. things like trazodone, vistiril, gabapentin, these are commonly used "off-label" for anxiety and sleep.


so what meds have you been prescribed so far? and how long have you been seeing your pdoc for this actual anxiety problem? it sounds like youre seeing both your primary care doctor as well as a pdoc for this. do they communicate to each other? you should be seeing a specialist (pdoc) not primary care

edit - i see on your thread on /r/drugs that youre on probation. what are you on probation for? do your doctors know youre on probation? im not trying to jump to conclusions here but just reading your posts, and how you talk about being jealous of your friends who got benzos thrown at them, it sounds like you just want benzos and nothing else. youre already convinced that "antidepressants" or anything else wont help you and your mind is made up.

the other guy recommending magnesium is actually a decent idea as well. i take 200-300mg of magnesium glycinate every night (and 100mg in the morning). it actually helps a lot to relax and fall asleep. without a doubt the best/most noticeable supplement ive ever taken, honestly. its certainly not a cure all, but it definitely helps. im in my early 30s and have tried almost everything.

I mostly vape. I also have a bong. I don't usually smoke canons/cones. I can roll by hand, and do, if I'm rolling something big, but for just myself and my girlfriend, I just use the RAW 1 1/4 papers and roller with the cellulose filters.

I do not use tobacco. Only smoke straight green.

I do rehydrate now, only in the last few months. Never used to. Always just picked up and smoked right out of the bag.

It does make it easier for rolling a burns a bit smoother IMO.

With the roller, you pack the weed in with a filter, close it shut, spin it and it will compress the weed to the same side/shape as the filter. Once you've rolled and compressed, slide in the edge of a paper, start spinning the roller and it will pull the paper in and wrap it around the weed and filter. Open it and you have a perfect "cigarette" every time.

When rolling cone, larger joints, cross joints, etc... I like to use something to roll the paper with, a pen, a rolled up sheet of white paper, etc... To make it easier to hold the shape. Roll the paper around whatever I'm using and stick it to create a hollow cone/tube. Then I slip a paper filter/tip from the top, down to the bottom and let it unroll itself a bit to fit the open, then fill the weed in from the top. Different people have different methods. My "hand roll" method is a bit unorthodox and "assisted" but a lot easier than fumbling weed everywhere. If that's. It an option, just use the fold in a pack of paper to hold and fill with weed, then tuck/roll a corner and spin it between your fingers, similar to what the roller does.

I prefer to use the rollers though.

Finally a topic I'm passionate about!

I don't have a specific answer for you, but that's because I have a lot of experience with ear plugs, and I know taste and fit will vary immensely from person to person.

Unfortunately, that means the best advice I can give you is try a whole bunch of different ear plugs, and see which ones fit best and work best for your purposes.

Judging from my experience, I'm certain you're going to need more than one type of earplug.

A bunch of tips:

  3. They make smaller women's and slim fit earplugs. I'm a fairly large man, and they don't fit me perfectly, but if I just want to take the edge off of the ambient sound, I use them. They muffle everything, but not to the same degree as my regular sized earplugs. That may not be an option for you depending on the size of your ears, but it's an option for some.

  4. For music and movies, I've tried Downbeats, but they don't fit me very well. You may have more luck, and there are other brands worth considering. Search for earplugs for musicians. They preserve the full range of audio frequencies, but just lower the volume. (Regular earplugs will tend to block out some frequencies more than others.)

  5. My favorite.

  6. Buy disposable earplugs in bulk on the internet.

  7. Those single use disposable earplugs -- you can use them more than once, but they do lose some of their blocking power. (Depending on the situation, this might be an advantage.) But once they get a little too soft and squishy, they're done.

  8. I often wear earplugs almost all day like you're planning. And I sleep with them every night too. That's doable, but do take them out for a decent amount of time each day. If they are in too long, even your favorite earplugs can become irritating. (And I know some people do have allergies to certain earplug materials.)

  9. Noise dampening earmuffs are also great.

  10. Keep a pair of earplugs with you in a little case at all times. You never know when you're going to want them.

I’d highly recommend a “white noise sound machine” such as the Marpac Adjustable model.

I’ve tried fans, apps, looping sound clips and YouTube videos but nothing has worked as well as my Marpac. Read though some of the 11k reviews and you’ll come to understand why it’s helped allot of folks.

In my case; I’m a light sleeper and it does a great job of masking outside noises which otherwise would have woken me up easily. I like being able to adjust the air vent ports to suit the tone I’m comfortable with and given that’s it’s an actual small fan spinning within a container, it sounds much more natural and soothing than some app.

Use a heavy blanket, make sure your room is a bit chilly and use a physical white noise machine to help you fall sleep and stay asleep.

Sure! I posted a reply about my diet up a little bit, so I'll just copy paste it. I honestly don't count calories at this point. When I was trying to shed the weight I watched what I ate pretty closely, around 2500 calories a day. I get around 3500 or so a day now, and that is with me staying lean. Usually that would be a bulking amount of calories, but as much as I work outside, workout and run. I need all the calories I can get to even maintain.

DISCLAMER: Fat Burning Products like Oxyelite, Fireball, Cellucor Super HD, Shred Matrix and Hydroxycut, DO NO WORK. I wanted to do everything i could when i first started, and wasted money on a product or 2 like those above. Good Ol' Exercise and good eating is all you need!

As far as supplements go I'm taking the following. These are all my favorites after taking dozens of things. I'm not too sure on the creatine though, it's my favorite brand and such, but honestly I personally couldnt tell much of a difference, i've since cycled off of it and am just taking protein and a PWO. But i'm going to give it another shot in a week or so. A PWO in my eyes is essential. And White flood is my favorite after trying about 10 different PWO's. I've also tried things like fish oil, multivitamins, BCAA's Omega 3-6-9, and amino's. And frankly not gotten a thing off of it. You might like a multi or fish oil, as that would be my second recommendation after this list. Because i've heard alot of people praise them. But my body resists alot of things, like pain medication , anti biotics and other things i found out the hard way.

Honestly, it's going to take some trial and error to find the right ones for you.

There's plenty cheap but decent options so that if you lose yours on a somewhat consistent basis, it won't cost too much. It might happen as you get used to carrying them with you. A lot of people do Keys, I do my wallet but YMMV.

Three Popular options: Etymotic 20 DownBeats & Earasers I used US Amazon to show examples.

The Earasers are the Pricey option, but from my understanding, they offer the best Clarity. No case either, so you'll need to look for one. There's a fully "licensed" (meaning they'll fit) case for an extra 10$.

Etymotic 20's are what I use. Again, no case but I use a cheap key-chain pill case. Sounds good to my ears.

DownBeats are the most popular option I've seen around. They're too small for my ear canals, but they work for most. Come with a case, which is nice. Nice silicon and a friend who owns a pair usually forgets they're in.

All of these might work, or none of them. You just kind of have to try them out and see what works for you. Best of luck!

Have you tried magnesium? There are a few different form but it May be worth investigating. Many of us are deficient so it can be a good item to throw into the mix plus it helps relax you and your muscles.

Some of my athlete friends swear by stuff called “natural calm” which is a magnesium mix. Found on amazon here It didn’t work great for me but multiple friends love it.

I like Doc Parsley’s sleep remedy which also uses magnesium as an ingredient (among others). You can check it out here

There is a huge misperception about melatonin. 1mg or less is all anyone needs. Too much and it can have the opposite effect. (I can try to pull the article, but trust me.) When I took 1mg then 2mg then 3mg all that happened was I’d conk out and then be awake 2 hours later, unable to sleep. When I switched to 1/2 mg (there is even a 333mcg tablet) I slept through the night.

[Basically you make your own melatonin, just not enough to make you sleep. So a little bump from a pill helps boost your drive to sleep. BUT, if you take a large dose of melatonin, your natural production of melatonin shuts down. Your brain says, ‘there’s plenty of melatonin out here, let’s turn off the melatonin factory!’ So a few hours in your body isn’t making any, the pill runs out and you wake up.]

Magnesium is a muscle relaxant. When I went into premature labor, they had me on IV magnesium to stop the muscular contractions in my uterus. It also made me feel like a wet noodle and I slept all day. Epsom salt is a magnesium salt and is readily absorbed into the body. It works better for me than oral magnesium. But try Natural Calm (a powder you mix with water) or a magnesium pill.

There are lots of different forms of magnesium with various but similar benefits. I take this one which is a blend of a few different types. It keeps me calm.

Also consider reducing all your lights in The house at sunset to signal your brain to wind down. And make sure your computer and phone have f. Lux or similar to adjust out blue light at night which can cause insomnia.

I'll get right to it. I'll write out the stuff in bullet points for convenience.

I highly suggest you spend at least 3 weeks just following a regular 1-2-3-whatever meals everyday eating whatever you like. Just avoid IF for now. Do the following instead:

a) Get your Vitamin D levels checked. Go to a good doctor and have the 25-hydroxy Vitamin D test done. Get a high dosage prescribed in consultation with your doctor while discussing test results. One of the benefits of adequate Vit D levels in the body is better function of your gut + intestines.

b) Buy 'apple cider vinegar with mother' from your local store. It's basically unpasteurized organic ACV that looks cloudy. Take two tablespoons of this after all your meals. It will help break down your food faster, provides digestive enzymes and reduces the acidity in your stomach. Remember to drink lots of water.

c) Buy the following herbs and spices in bottle form (easier to open, use and store away):

Coriander seeds
Thyme
Fenugreek seeds (or leaves)
Cumin seeds (or ground cumin)

I've had success of varying degrees trying the above 4 individually at different times, especially coriander seeds. Either take it after your meal, or an empty stomach. Shove a small palmful of it in your mouth, chew well, swallow, and drink plenty of water.

Thyme has some cooling effects in your gut + intestines.

Fenugreek helps with colic, energy and a notable increase in testosterone. I'm still experimenting with this.

Cumin, when ingested, is transported directly to your liver. So just either chew the seeds or mix the ground cumin in water and drink. Wait for a while and see how your gut + intestines react.

You can also try ground ginger or ginger root.

d) Substitute cow's milk with either goat, sheep, camel or almond milk. I personally suggest camel's milk as it is the thinnest of all milks and is way more beneficial and tolerable.

e) Introduce a natural fermented drink in your system for a good source of probiotics. I recommend you search for 'milk kefir grains', buy some and start cultivating it in your favorite milk. Google on kefir how to guides etc. It's very easy, I strain mine every other days in a plastic colander in 10 secs and I get kefir-milk.

f) When eating, chew the hell out of your food, make sure it turns into mush in your mouth before you swallow. This will ease the strain on your stomach. The extra 2-5 minutes you take chewing your food well will translate to x hours saved not spending time in the bathroom.

g) Gelatin. One of the major benefits is healing leaky gut. Other benefits include healing cartilage, joints, skin, hair, nails etc.

OP, I feel your pain about GI intolerance and using IF as a workaround. I do the same thing in some of my rest days, except I do a 'full' fast which is, no eating or drinking from dusk till dawn. It does work really well as I do not get the frequent annoying GI issues/painful constipation/frequent flatulence etc, but it's STILL a band-aid solution to the problem. So I turned my attention to conventional remedies written in all the points listed above and I've had good improvements. I hope you'll benefit from it too.

While you want to bulk up on calories, you need to make sure the foods you are eating are also not empty calories. While I don't know the prices over there, top of mind, here are some traditionally cheap sources of calories:

  • Peanut butter sandwiches is higher in calories while still being nutrient rich
  • Dark meat chicken (legs and thighs). These you could get fairly cheap, but may take a little longer to cook than 30 minutes. Very well worth it though.
  • Adding brown or white rice or noodles to every dish.
  • Eggs are full of protein, fairly cheap if you shop around, and are 70-80 calories per and easy to cook
  • Oats are fairly cheap and you can get a lot of calories from it. Add PB or maple syrup to add flavor and calories
  • Bananas are typically cheap and 100 calories per. Add them to oats, sandwiches, or just to have as a snack.
  • Cheeses typically are calorie rich and have good protein content and plenty of vitamins and minerals.
  • Protein powders/gainers may seem expensive at first, but knowing you could get 1200-1600 calories from one serving is great, especially with all of the nutrients you get. Example of a good option.

Approach this with caution. Be sensitive to his needs, and -if- he agrees to this, just ask for a little at a time. It may be a month or two before the next stage. If bondage does it for you, I would start with something mild, and something he can perceive as reasonably safe (such as this). I would ease him into bondage, before the S&M play. Once he is more comfortable with restraining you, get yourself a collar and maybe a gag (again baby steps). Once he is feeling comfortable with the bondage aspect, I would bring the dominance into play, and only after all of that, would I bring up the S&M play.

Bring up the safe word, Green/Yellow (more please and not my thing) mostly as comforts to HIM so that he -knows- your the one really in control. Also, safewords are not just sub only. If the dom feels out of whack they can pull it too.

Depending on gender, there are multivitamins that are better suited than others, but generally you want a once daily multivitamin.

I personally take a generic rite aid once daily multivitamin, 1000mg of calcium, and 200 mg of Magnesium.

This is the Magnesium I recommend due to its high efficiency. Magnesium is going to be what is going to combat the tolerance issue. The vitamin C is what will eliminate the Amphetamines, and the calcium is going to make sure you are absorbing the vitamins as best as you can.

If you want to do this 100% correctly, you would also add a protein drink alongside dinner, 35g of protein is what I use. What is important is that this protein drink includes L-Tyrosine, which is the precursor protein in the formation of Dopamine. Dopamine is the Neurotransmitter that Amphetamines predominantly exhaust.

TL;DR

  • Take Magnesium for Tolerance
  • Take A multivitamin with at least 100% Vitamin C
  • 1000 mg of Calcium to improve absorption
  • At least 1 protein shake that includes BCAA's like L-tyrosine to replenish lost dopamine.
  • At least 3 balanced meals a day
  • At least 8 oz of water with each meal.

    If you can follow this daily routine the health risk of amphetamines can be reduced. I take it daily, and I have never had an issue with comedowns, fatigue, or any real tolerance issues.

    I take 10mg Adderall XR in the am, and 5 mg IR Adderall in PM.

  • One of my dad's favorite gifts was a sugar dispenser... I think that shows his level of sugar commitment.

  • Some artisan marshmallows.

  • A milk frother that doubles as a hot chocolate maker.

    For the executive (like my mom, these are all things she likes):

  • A high quality thermos for coffee on the way to work.

  • A smart home setup, maybe an echo and some smart outlets or the google home. Really good for turning lights on/off, asking for the weather and news, listening to music, etc.

  • A FitBit to help her keep healthy even working long hours.

  • A popcorn maker that allows you to make non-microwaved popcorn in the microwave.

  • A white noise machine. If she has any trouble sleeping this thing is AMAZING.

  • A Roku or Chromecast that makes it easier to watch Netflix on the TV.

  • Wine tasting or cooking class that you can do together. Really my mom loves doing stuff with her family.

Uh I'm so sorry to hear this. You definitely have a nuisance neighbor and that's so anxiety inducing on top of a chronic illness. I also have a chronic illness and work incall from home.

Have you thought about ways you can limit or muffle the noise? Do you have a carpet or can you put down an area rug? If you don't want a rug, maybe you can wear flip flops or slippers at home to help dull the noise? Do you ask clients to take their shoes off at the door?

It sounds like you need more than just Vitamin D.

Without much context, you also sound anemic.

A full blood panel would be recommended. In the meantime I would take the following:

Take every morning/early afternoon (with a meal):

  • 5000 - 10000 IU Vitamin D3
  • 15:1 mg Zinc:Copper
  • 500 - 1000 mg EPA + DHA Omega-3 Fatty Acids (fish oil or algae oil)

    Take every evening (with a meal):

  • 200 - 400 mg Magnesium Glycinate
  • 3 -10 mg Boron
  • 1000 - 2000 mg EPA + DHA Omega-3 Fatty Acids

    Learn more about why those supplements will likely improve your health.

    Increase your calories and eat some meat, if you aren't already. Grass fed beef and organ meats are best in your case.

About 24 oz of water with 1/2 tsp of NoSalt + mix-in. I started off with the Aldi's Fit & Active lemonade mix, but didn't realize for a while that there is maltodextrin and aspartame in there. Personally, I wanted to move away from those ingredients. Switched to True Lemon and didn't realize for a while that there are 3g carb per packet. Granted, I was using about 1/2-3/4 a packet a day, but I wanted to cut down on unnecessary carbs where I could. Currently, I use Kool-Aid packets (about 1/8-1/6 of one per 24 oz). My favorite flavors so far have been the lemon lime and tropical punch, but I still have a lot more to try! I did not like the lemonade personally. I usually have 3-5 water bottles a day, which I know it's waaay more potassium than recommended in the /r/keto FAQ, but it works for me. When I first started to drink potassium water, I only used 1/4 tsp and couldn't drink too fast or else I'd feel tingly. Now, 1/2 tsp several times a day is completely fine for me. I just pee with more frequency and volume than pre-keto.

Whenever I try to add table salt to the water mix, the flavor is too weird to me. It's...too sweet almost, but not sweet. I'm not sure what to call the flavor. Instead, I just try my best to add salt to my foods. I try to hit /at least/ 2500 mg a day (tracking via MyFitnessPal). I'll end the day with some dill pickles if need be. I don't feel guilty about those at all and find them quite crunchy and delicious. I used to be quite opposed to salty tastes pre-keto, but I'm growing more and more to like it. I prefer the taste of the pink himalayan salt to regular table salt.

Magnesium, 3 pills a day before bed. I think these combined with having a cup of chamomile tea and switching to reading instead of TV before bed have /really/ helped make my sleep schedule more regular.

Serious Mass. I get the 12 pound bag and that lasts like 2-3 months. It works well when you add things to your shake like peanut butter, bananas, whole milk, and Ice cream. A couple of months ago I was actually trying to eat a lot and gain wait, and I managed to get from 140 to 150 in a month or so, then I stopped because it was getting expensive, but it was totally working. If I kept it up I'd probably be around 160ish by now, but I'm gonna be trying again soon.

If you're someone like me, just design yourself a meal plan and stick to it everyday of the week. I don't mind eating the same thing everyday so it wasn't so bad for me. Myfitnesspal is a good app to use as well as the website http://www.eatthismuch.com/. If you have to, even schedule your meals, like be sure to wake up at 10:00 and eat breakfast at 10:30. At 11:15 eat a small snack, at 12:30 eat your big lunch, at 1:15 have another snack, etc... It really helps build a routine and it'll be easy from there on out. Treat it like a job with deadlines and such.

Might be worth getting a solder wick for when you inevitably screw up. Solder vacuum isn't a terrible idea either. I have both, I use them for different things. A third hand is also useful. I find myself using the glass more than the arms but it's all useful. If the iron you buy doesn't come with one a brass ball is great for keeping your tip clean without cooling it off like a sponge will. Micro-cutter is useful, not sure if angled or straight is better, up to you I guess. Last but not least a pair of angled tweezers. You can get those anywhere.

These are all the things I have within arm's reach when I'm doing a project. Have fun!

Specific Sugar Question?: Google: "Keto Friendly Sweeteners"

Fruit: There is a list of OK keto fruits. "Keto Friendly Fruits" I know Berries are okay... Strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, rhubarb.

Dairy: Is okay if there is no sugar in it! Keto is almost based on cheese, it feels like, sometimes. However, read the label on your milk. Notice how many grams of sugar is in it. I never realized, myself, it's nuts! I eat all dairy, but switched to Vanilla, Unsweetened Almond milk.

Carbs: It is most common for people to limit their carbs to under 20g/day. So, you can have some. To get more technical, you only need to watch your "net carbs'=g of carbs - g of fiber.

What can we eat?: Everything as long as it does not have sugar, and stay under 20g carbs. Fat is encouraged! Salt is encouraged! Protein is helpful. Up your potassium & magnesium rich foods: spinach! and take your electrolyte drink.

I'm glad you've spoken with your doctor about it. I found this article, but it seems to suggest all the stuff you've tried. I'm glad you've found that eating more meat helps.

You might try supplementing your diet with gelatin AND collagen may help (use both together). I like to add both powders to a daily smoothie with breakfast. That might allow you to eat some meat, while not feeling overwhelmed.

Also: does anyone else in your family have this? Apparently it can be a genetic condition.

For me (I have nails that split, but I don't have the issue of the free edge growing downward), using Nailtiques Formula 2 only on my nails (no color polish) for at least 6 weeks, and using their nail polish remover. After removing the nail protein, I wash my hands and make sure the nails get some water, then let them dry before filing and putting on fresh nail protein. Some people say letting nails get water, then using a nail protein, and using cuticle oil as a treatment regimen helps nails.

Couple tips if you're having insomnia. Listen up cuz this is the real deal, this WILL help get you through these first few days (take it from someone who just got through it and is feeling great now).

  1. Start taking magnesium. Like, as soon as humanly possible. Get this brand here, there are a million types of magnesium, and the most common ones won't do jack for you. I've done tons of brand research and this is the good stuff.

    Take two pills as soon as you wake up, and more importantly, take two 30-60 minutes before bed. When you take it at night it will make you sleepy. You can take it on an empty stomach, it's super easy on the stomach.

    Magnesium is the 2nd most common deficiency in the developed world, AND alcohol flushes magnesium out of your body. So chances are that your body is WAY low on it, and that will mess up your sleep AND it will make you depressed. Getting your magnesium levels back up is proven to lower symptoms of depression and improve your mood, something I've experienced first hand, so it should make your moods a little sunnier.

  2. If the above doesn't work for getting you to sleep, and you want to bring in the big guns, take some melatonin at night about 30 minutes before you want to go to bed. I like this brand but there are lots online to choose from.

    BIG POINT FOR MELATONIN: Most melatonin pills are 5mg. I don't know why this is, because that's actually a massive dose. Break off about a quarter of a pill and that should be a good dose (.75-1.5mg). Also, if you go the melatonin route, try to limit your usage to 1-2 weeks of daily usage. If you take it too often, then when you stop you might have trouble getting to sleep again, cuz your body got used to it. So just take it for a 5-14 days while your body heals itself and naturally learns how to fall asleep without alcohol.

    In general, you may have to take it on faith that it gets better for now while you're hurting, but it's the OVERWHELMING experience of everyone that it does get better. Nobody, ever, in the history of the world, was having a shitty life, and then they started drinking more, and then things got better.

    But if you go to an AA meeting (which I highly recommend doing), you will meet people with 1, 5, 10, 20 years of sobriety, and every single one will tell you that their lives got insanely better when they stopped drinking. You'll hear a lot of people saying stuff like "back when I was drinking, I couldn't possibly imagine my life being as good as it is today". And I've had people close to me quit, and I've seen them go through a similar situation.

    Hang in there friend. What you're doing right now is worth every bit of effort.

I would say a fan that is loud enough, usually the square floor fans (you can point it toward a wall so it doesn't hit you, otherwise you may get chilly). I usually keep mine on the lowest setting, but sometimes have to bump it up to medium if neighbors are playing music. I really find that the cheaper, square, medium'ish sized ones work the best. The more expensive ones try to actually be quiet, which is not what I want.

I have found that other noise machines (rain noises, etc) just have a loop back that I can pick up on and it actually keeps me up even more because I am following the loop back. The white noise machine above has no such thing, I love them.

I have their travel one because I am on the road for work 3 weeks out of a month. Works great. If I was you, I'd use both. Put the fan by the window, on the right setting. Put the white noise machine on your dresser, next to you.

The secondary glazing sounds great, and if I asked my landlord to do this he would laugh and laugh and laugh and laugh, then hang up on me. I feel your pain, man. I hate noise while i'm trying to sleep. But what I have said above has worked in some pretty shitty situations before.

Hey man. I wasn't quite that skinny, I was M/20/5'9"/135lbs. But I decided I wanted to be heavier, so I started tracking calories, trying to eat about 3000 a day and making sure to get minimum of 120g protein. I used MyFitnessPal (Free smartphone/web app). This mass gainer and creatine helped me a TON. They say to use "2 scoops" for the mass gainer but that's absolutely stupid. Just use 16 ounces of 2%/whole milk and ONE scoop, and it still adds up to like 800 calories.

Use a TDEE calculator and aim to go about 500-750 calories above that. A faster bulk will mean more fat mixed in with the muscle, but if you wanna gain weight faster, it's just how you do it.

Best of luck skinnybro! I gained 15 lbs in 6 weeks just between eating more, using that mass gainer, and creatine. Did I gain some fat? Sure, but by the end of it, My dad saw me (after not seeing me for about 2 months) and said "I barely recognized you! You're so much bigger!". So it made a huge difference, and I looked more muscular too, not ripped, but muscular.

Everyone is circling the correct answer here but not giving you specifics.

To gain muscle, you need to aim for ~1.5g protein intake per lb of body weight. If you weigh 150lbs, you're eating ~225g of protein a day.

Eat as many eggs as you can stand. Cholesterol is THE Testosterone precursor. I'll do 40+ pullups and 100+ pushups and smash down 6 eggs. Lift later that night and then eat another 6. Then eat another 6 the next morning.

Oatmeal with fruit is a perfect breakfast. Processed as little as possible. Old-fashioned or Steel-cut oats preferably.

Take Creatine! Monohydrate is typically cheapest but pre-workouts will usually have HCL or nitrate. Dosing here is gonna vary dependent on your size and tolerance but maybe just start with one 2g pre-workout dose and one 5g dose immediately after. Maybe take another 5g dose the next morning. Water is critical here. Creatine is hella rough on your kidneys so you should probably be taking each dose with 8 oz of water and shoot for 64+ ounces of water every day.

Take a mass gainer if you're really struggling with calorie intake. This is a good one thats not too expensive. Usually on these things they recommend two heaping scoops for a single dose but i find just doing a single scoop plus milk and a couple eggs is more than sufficient.

If you're trying to go for cheaper supplements, try Grocery Outlet. I've found hella good shit there for cheap thats a couple months away from expiration. 30-serving 3g creatine pre-workouts that were 1g mono/ 1g hcl/ 1g nitrate for only $9.99. 6lb bags of mass gainer for $14.99 and stuff like that. The business model means product availability will always be changing but price-wise Gross-out beats the shit outta places like GNC.

And most of all, SLEEP! You need to get that deep R.E.M level 6+ hour sleep increment kinda sleep for your body to actually take all the work and calories and actually turn it into muscle.

  1. A Dohm sound machine - seriously, this thing is amazing. My toddler still uses hers and my husband and I actually bought one for our room and we use it every night. It goes with us when we travel and it's essential to good sleep for us.
  2. Gummy bear night light - it must be red! This was recommended to me from a sleep class we took before our toddler was born and it's amazing for middle of the night feedings. You squeeze the belly and it turns on and there's a separate adapter I recommend buying so you don't run out of batteries so quickly. The red light helps your baby (and you!) fall asleep quickly so you don't have sleep that's even more disrupted.
  3. Seamless underwear - I wasn't expecting a c-section and ended up having an emergency one and I had to have my mother-in-law run to Macy's to find some seamless underwear for me because regular underwear hit exactly at my c-section scar and was extremely uncomfortable. She picked up some Calvin Klein ones and I've since purchased several pairs and I really love them, even when not pregnant, but it was something that I wasn't expecting to need. (I would find the link for them but I'm currently at work so I'll edit it later with the link, haha)

    Splurge item: a baby monitor with a camera and app on your phone. We originally used a motorola one because I was convinced I needed a separate little screen and I could still see it on my phone through an app, but we recently bought a Nest camera and I love it. I love being able to see what time she goes to bed if we have a sitter, I can tell when she's gotten up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom - even if she doesn't wake us up and its several hours later... overall, I just really love it.

An easy one that requires no cooking is a weight gain smoothie. Some bodybuilders and weightlifters take them. I'm in the military and I'll have one if we suddenly get on 12 hour shifts and I need the calories but couldn't cook.

Edit: Remember the key to gaining weight (or losing it just reverse this) is keeping your caloric intake higher than your metabolic rate. Gain weight now and worry about eating particularly healthy later.

Based on the responses in this thread, I'm really interested in the Etymotic ones that everyone is recommending. I've never tried them, but it sounds like they're pretty popular, and for good reason.

Personally, I got a pair of Earasers, and I love them. These lower the volume enough for me to spend all night at a show without any ringing in my ears when I go to bed. They preserve enough fidelity that I can have conversations and still enjoy the music. And best of all, they're practically invisible. Most people can't even tell I'm wearing them.

I have several friends that live in Finland, so I get to go and stay for free. I spent about 4 days in Rovaniemi for skiing last year. As an American looking over the side of the bridge and seeing a partially submerged speed limit sign, I thought, "Huh. The road has been flooded by the adjacent river and frozen over." Nope. They turned part of the river in a road. The river road speed limit is about 20 mph. :)

Useful information, VITAMIN D and a sun lamp are your friends. I used this sunlamp while living in Northern France. Seasonal Depression is a real thing and it blows.

Like the kind Finnish redditor mentioned, Finns don't generally do small talk. This is almost always true. Fight the urge to chit chat American style.

Also, learn sauna etiquette as saunas are very important in Finnish culture. Your board shorts in the pool and shower aren't going to fly. There is nothing better than beer and a sauna.

Speaking of beer, Finland has some great beer, but you may have to look around for it. I've some excellent beers in Finland which had complex flavors.

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 camera module replacement

I just replaced the wifi module in my wife's Note 2.. The Logic Board (aka- motherboard) in mine.. and then had to finally find a replacement for (b/c the connector ripped the male contact off of the logic board inside of the wire's female connector and I couldn't get it out.. super tiny shit) and install the USB/Cell Antenna cable in my Note 2.. With the tools, patience, PARTS lol, and instructions, you don't need a new phone as often as you'd think ;)

Total cost.. About $50 for all of those parts on ebay and ifixit-(which is expensive, but it's quick and reliable.. the bad cable I got was from them, and they replaced it free w/o a return of the faulty one) The tools aren't that much either.. ifixit has their stuff overpriced.. just find them elsewhere.. then, just watch a lot of videos, and go slow.

Did you know? you can use 2x magnifying lenses held at just the right distances from each other to create a MUCH more powerful magnification? I use a set of Helping Hands (not the best design btw) and then use a smaller magnifying glass held by one of the alligator clips held infront of the larger one to make a laymans microscope..

Here's an example of how I have mine setup.. This is an old RadioShack version that I paid waaaaay too much for back before I used the net lol.. Like $40?? I think ughh.. Pretty sure there's better for less now.

1 - realize that this diet means serious business when we say drop the fucking carbs. Make it a rule to stay under 20 a day, and then you can gradually work your way up after being in ketosis for awhile. This is where ketostix do come in handy, if say you cheat one day and have 30g of carbs, but aren't sure if it knocked you out or not (otherwise you don't "need" them - if you're eliminating carbs you're in ketosis)


2 - eat fats to satiety, no magic number


3 - proteins are the next "goldilocks" number - too much and it'll turn into carbs, too little and you won't maintain muscle (if you're trying to tone up at all). The keto calculators should definitively answer the specifics here for your body weight.


4 - I highly recommend some form of electrolyte/vitamin supplementation. This should be a mandatory sticky - if you are avoiding most of the bad fruits (because they're bags of sugar and carbs for the most part) and eating real/good/clean food, you'll be getting way less salt than the average processed food consuming American. I recommend these - http://www.amazon.com/Emergen-C-Electro-Mix-Lemon-Lime-30-count/dp/B002HWRY5S this is way more economical as opposed to Powerade Zero. If you feel like crap and are getting cramps, you need to replenish them electrolytes (especially if exercising). Another good way to up the salt intake I've read a lot of folks here do is simply to drink a few tablespoons of beef broth a day (plus other good minerals in there).


5 - my personal rule I'll share to help, as it helped me the most - No cheat meals by myself, period. Resist the temptation to pull over and get fast food now because you're "soooo hungry". This frees me up to have the occasional dinner out / dinner date and not be guilty about it. Life happens, you will want to enjoy yourself, and you should, if you've been strict and honest with yourself about no cheat meals on your own.


6 - I hope you like avocado, bacon, and spinach. Those are my 3 staples I eat pretty much every day, despite them getting very boring, I really love eating them all together still. Avocado is very important because of the fat content + fiber, and so is spinach/broccoli. Keto is cutting out bread entirely, so you have to get your fiber from healthy vegetables, or you'll notice you'll be in constipationland, population you, very quick.

For your specific situation, 500mcg of melatonin and 400mg of magnesium glycinate should fix you right up. Melatonin is extremely safe and nontoxic. Same with magnesium (to a far lesser extant than melatonin, though).

A note on melatonin dosages: Less is more. It is frequently sold in 5-20mg pills. This is way way way too much for most people^[1].

As far as taking other things like St. John's Wort, kava, etc: Do not start out with these. You are a young person. There are many other things to try before these things. If the magnesium and melatonin don't work for you, feel free to PM me, and I'll do my best to give advice however I can.

I don't have any suggestions on soldering irons, but I do recommend a brass wire sponge over a regular sponge for tip cleaning.

They work great and don't require any water. I personally feel they are better for your iron tip and don't get nasty like a sponge can.

There is a product called Barkeeper's Friend. It's very cheap and it is a miracle worker for stainless. Will make it shine like brand new with very minimal effort. This is what you are looking for, but honestly you can get it at most grocery stores or even Home Improvement stores for about $1-2.

As far as cooking with it, just make sure you have enough fat/oil/butter/etc. to keep things from sticking. I like using avocado oil because it has a really high smoke point and a very mild flavor. I can get it pretty hot without smoking and doesn't alter the flavor of whatever I'm cooking. But the great thing about stainless is that no matter how bad you burn things or screw them up, barkeeper's friend will make that sucker shine like new pretty easily.

I purchased this Cooks Standard set 4 years ago for $225 and I've been loving it. No need to worry about using metal or scrubbing hard. I do occasionally use Bar Keepers Friend to polish up the pans for a brand-new look.

If you don't want this brand/set specifically, for sure get at least tri-ply like already mentioned. I think metal pans (vs non-stick coating) are better for all around cooking. Sure, you need to use more oil/butter in your cooking, but moderate amounts of fat are important in a diet. Its highly processed, added sugars, and excess salt you need to worry about.

For when I needed a non-stick, like for eggs, I picked up this T-fal and the non-stick is fantastic, even after a few years of careful use.

I also have a Lodge cast iron dutch oven set which is great for when I use it, but I find it difficult to use effectively. Perhaps I'm just not using the proper techniques, so I don't get much use of it... but I do love to use it when I get around to it. Learning proper care for cast iron is essential - read up before you use (and possibly ruin!)

Hmm, going through the thread you are more vanilla, which something everyone seems to be missing.

Here are some of my favorite things to do that are simple and sexy:

Tie her hands behind her back (crossed or parallel). Use rope and do it slowly (and I mean fucking slow!). Make it sensual as you stand behind her wrapping each coil of rope around her wrists. Pause, keep one hand holding the ropes and the other with a firm grasp under chin, and lightly nibble on her ear. Finish off the tie. Obviously you can't fuck her missionary, but you can bend her over something: table, counter, or even your bed and fuck her hard from behind. Make sure to use her helplessness to your advantage with proper foreplay.

Frogtie her (ankles to calves). This is a great position and opens her up for penetration. If your worried about her arms try a box tie where her arms bent at right angles behind her back. This will be more comfortable considering.

Tying her spread eagle to the bed. Simple and effective. Make sure you use the proper knot that you have seen so it doesn't cut off circulation. An alternative to this the under the bed restraint system. Works like a charm.

Don't be afraid to experiment! Bending her over and having your way with her is a great place to start, but make it unique. Surprise her when she gets home (talk to her beforehand to avoid having the same thing happen to you by a man named Bubba in county).

Look up some tutorials on youtube. A good iron makes a world of difference. I struggled with properly tinning all the irons I've used previously which were just those cheap $8 dollar irons from like walmart. The weller that was in my dad's stuff wasn't much more expensive but they make quality stuff.

The tip tinned very well and everything was fairly smooth. If you don't have a decent stock of soldering supplies I would purchase them before you start.

Here's a quick rundown of what I would recommend:

Simple Weller Soldering Iron

Helping Hands

Desolder Wick

Kester .03" solder

Having the desolder wick saved me a few times when I had some bad flow from the parts not having adequate heat and the solder just clumping on the pin rather than flowing into the connection. You just lay the braid over the solder and press your iron on top and it will soak the solder into the braid and leave your parts clean. You'll probably want something to clean your solder iron tip with. You can buy a Hakko cleaning stand with wire brush for $10 on amazon or you can just wet a scotch brite pad you buy from walmart for a few dollars.

You can use solder you already have if it's a small enough diameter. You want small diameter so that when you touch it to the part (not to the iron) it melts quickly and you dont have to continue to apply heat to the parts. As far as actually handling the solder while you're trying to work I like to cut a small length of solder, maybe 6-8 inches and then wind it in a mini spool around my pinkie finger and leave a length of it sticking out so you have something to hold on to that will give you good control.

Once you make the connections look at them, a good connection should typically be shiny and not cloudy. It's likely overkill for this project but those are good practices.

<3 Some extra lighting could help, and maybe even set aside some cash for one of those sun lamp type things to make the shorter daylight hours in winter more bearable.

If you haven't already, investing in one or two plants that don't need a lot of light can add some cozy comfort to a room too.

What are your favorite colors? Can you decorate within those to create a happier space? I really like yellow and turquoise, and am always trying to find things in those colors. Even just a few throw pillows or knick knacks and a brightly colored cozy blanket can help. Throw down a cute dollar store blanket or some cheap cozy pet beds for the puppers to cuddle with you too!

...and maybe some brightly colored dollar store baskets to help organize your craft stuff and/or stash :D

IF you're able to, get outside as well even for 10-15 minutes during the day when the sun is out. Even if you're not smoking, but toking in your new cozy spot, and then trying to adventure out. It makes a a bit of a difference to get a change of scenery.

Edit: If you could find even just a futon mattress in good shape on Cragislist or something, you could fold that against the wall, hang some lights, put down some blankets and throw pillows, and call that a lounge/smoke spot too. If you Google reading nook ideas, you might be able to get some more inspiration on how to convert that into a smoke spot ;)

Simple and easy way to get more protein into your diet. When looking at the nutrition label, if it says "Nutrition facts" the contents have been verified by a relatively strict process. if it says "Supplement facts" the actual content is allowed to vary a lot from what's listed on the label.

If you're looking for a meal replacement, I've found that Muscle Milk brand powder works well. If you're just wanting a protein supplement, I really like the flavours of Optimum Nutrition and they're relatively low carb. If you're trying to lean more towards the vegetarian side of things, Garden of Life is an excellent option as well. Although I personally think the texture is pretty "gritty" the flavours aren't bad.

Regardless of what you choose, if you do some price comparison among top brands, you'll find it to be a fairly good deal in price/calorie compared to pre-packaged foods. Almost all of the powders are going to be a healthy option for adding to your diet. For myself, I've found protein shakes to be the best small meal replacement for when I'm trying to cut weight, and a great source for extra calories to add between each meal if I'm trying to bulk up.

Optimum Nutrition Whey Protein seems to dissolve very easily for me. I've never used a blender, and don't own a shaker bottle - just use a spoon. They label it as "instantized."

  • in water: dissolves completely in ~10 seconds (seems to be no clumps)
  • in 2% milk: dissolves about 95% in ~20 seconds (a few tiny clumps float back to the top, but definitely no "cement mixer" - swirling a bit makes it easy to drink)

    As a side note, it's the first and only protein powder I've ever used, and I think it tastes pretty good. I've heard several people recommend it as one of the best tasting. I assume their other products, such as the casein protein, are good too.

Sorry to bring bad news, but, assuming you got the same one that Amazon calls "Nature Made High Potency", it only contains Magnesium Oxide.

Magnesium Oxide has extremely low bioavailability, and has some other issues as well. It's rust, in essence. So unfortunately you'll really not get any benefit whatsoever by taking those. Your body will only absorb about 5% or less of each softgel, meaning each is really only going to give you 10-20 mg.

Really the one you want is Magnesium Glycinate. I take the Doctor's Best brand which is unbuffered, meaning the pill contains 100% Mg Glycinate with no other lesser forms included. Glycinate is the most bioavailable form of Magnesium and is the best for supplementation. This sort of logic rings true with a lot of other supplements. Many brands will happily sell you minerals with poor bioavailability (multivitamins have this flaw especially), so it's wise to do this check for all supplements you buy.

To answer your question though, no, 400mg isn't too much. Really you can take as much as you want and your body should just not absorb what it doesn't need. 400mg is a solid daily dose though. Take it before bed, as there is a small amount of evidence to suggest it can be a sedative and help sleep.

Don't take it at the same time you intake Calcium, as Calcium does inhibit absorption of Magnesium to some extent. Taking Vitamin D/K and Magnesium in addition to a diet with lots of Calcium is a pretty strong combo, as D/K/ Magnesium all have important roles in Calcium absorption and its integration in bones. Take the D/K/ and your Calcium food in one sitting, and the Magnesium later once the Calcium has already been digested.

Lived in FHK the first two years it was coed (96-98).

  • Bring flip flops to wear in the shared shower.
  • The desks and cabinets do uninstall from the walls if you want to do a creative loft.
  • Train noise reverberates through the quad, but you'll adjust quickly. A white noise machine like this will help immensely.
  • Unless things have changed (I'm sure they have) your closest laundry not in the dorm will be in the study room behind Keathley adjoining Davis-Gary.
  • Heldenfels is a short walk (10 mins), and that's where the majority of life sciences (for fish) should be.
  • If you're in a room at the end, you can install a hammock on the corner of the railing pretty easily.
  • Most important of all, leave your door open when you're there! Jam your music loud enough for passers-by. It's a great way to meet folks.

Sometimes metabolism is just too high. I was 115lbs from the time I was 16-19, and after that I gained 30lbs in the last year. He can try doing GOMAD or or changing his routine. I gained 30lbs when I started doing SL5x5.
I also ate:
Breakfast:
2 cups yogurt with granola
2 eggs
1-2 breakfast sausage
1 bowl Kashi GOLEAN cereal
Lunch:
2 Hamburgers
2 cups salad with tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots, pine nuts, vinegar and oil dressing
1 sandwich(usually chicken) with mayo and lettuce
1 dessert (would be a cookie or slice of pie)
1cup yogurt
Dinner:
Whatever high protein dinner was that night (2 servings)
2 cups salad with balsamic dressing
1-2 servings of a starch
1 large mcflurry
Snacks: nature valley peanut or almond bar, usually 2-3 a day.

That was when I dormed and had full meal plan. Now that I am home I have dropped a few pounds. not many though.

You're friend has to realize that he might not be able to gain it that easily. The gainer he uses might not work for him too. Different mixes of weight gain supplements work for different people. I've tried a few, and found that ON Serious Mass works for me. Maybe he should try them? They are as natural as I have found, in weight gainers. Also, if he's using gainer and supplements all the time, it could possibly hinder growth. I cut on and off of gainers and protein shakes, and found better growth than when on them full time. Hope something in this wall of text helps!

TL;DR: Try SL5x5, try new weight gainers, or take himself off and stick to real food

Yeah, those Powerade Zeroes are definitely not going to give you enough of what you need. Ditch them ASAP. I struggled a lot with low electrolytes my first few weeks because I did NOT supplement appropriately. The good news is you can start feeling better in a few days if you do it properly.

For my "ketorade," I mix 1/2 tsp of Lite Salt and 1/2 tsp of regular salt with one of these. It's got 3g of sugar, but for me that's good enough. I needed something that doesn't taste totally disgusting. It's still salty, way saltier than a Powerade Zero, but you just have to deal with it. I drink this every morning on my bike ride to work. If it's really hot out I might make a second bottle.

Additionally, I salt the crap out of my food with both regular salt and the lite salt. I drink broth. It's not the tastiest thing in the world, but it helps.

At night, you need two of these bad boys. I'm guessing the magnesium you picked up is the oxide form, which isn't bioavailable enough to make much of a difference. Citrate is better, but the glycinate has been tremendously helpful.

After you've done all of that for a week or two, see how you feel. If it's still not making a difference, time to see your doctor. I'll be the first to say that keto is NOT for everyone. I strongly believe that no singular diet is perfect for everyone. If you continue feeling like garbage, it might be worth considering trying something more like Paleo...keeping most of your staples the same, but adding in something like a potato every night with dinner. But don't give up hope just yet! You haven't been supplementing correctly and I know what a difference that makes.

I just got a stainless set for Christmas this past year. I was really excited but also terrified, then I did some research. The key to stainless steel cooking is heat the pan first before adding ANYTHING. I believe the adage is hot pan, cold fat.

So, say you want to cook something over medium-high heat.

  • Turn the burner on to that, set the pan on it and forget about it for a few minutes so the pan comes up to heat empty.
  • Then, add your fat, so butter, olive oil whatever (I don't do this with bacon because the bacon is essentially the fat, just heat and slap in your bacon), let the fat come up to temperature. You want to wait until you see a nice shimmer on the surface for things like olive oil. * Then add your food.

    I can even scramble eggs in my skillets and they slide out like nothing. You'll notice after a little practice that these babies are, when used properly, less prone to stick than something with a non-stick coating, unless of course you burn the shit out of it. :)

    Also, for cleaning, let the pan cool before you wash it. My favorite things to use are either no scratch Scotch Brite pads or Scotch Brite Dobies but in most cases I don't really need to scrub. That being said, you're going to encounter situations where you burn things or the fat oxidizes on your pans and for this, hands down, get some Bar Keepers Friend. It's the best thing ever.

Tell her to get a pair of these. They are a bit pricier than others but I’ve tried almost every other ear plug and these have the best fit and best sound in my opinion. I started wearing earplugs heavy after almost having hearing trouble from going to so many bass shows at loud clubs, etc. I don’t leave home without these now and they were the best investment for nectar sets that I could possibly find. I made all the homies get pairs and they love them.

There is certainly a transition period from glucose to ketone energy. Your body needs to adapt to using ketones and fatty acids efficiently, and it can take months to reach fat adaption, but once you do it is a steady source of energy and endurance is great. But for now you're definitely pushing it. Keto is also diuretic, you lose minerals and that will drain energy fast. Unless you replenish them daily, your kidneys start recycling your water to hang onto salts, which can stall loss from dehydration. Easiest way to ensure you get some more electrolytes is drinking a ketoade daily. You can search out recipes and tweak a concoction of your own.

My ketoade is 1/4tsp salt for sodium; 1/2tsp lite salt for sodium/potassium. You could also use 1/4tsp Nu/No Salt instead, or buy a potassium citrate powder; 1tsp magnesium citrate powder. I use a nice water bottle that unscrews so I can dump in the mixture and add water; 1Tbsp lemon juice; and sweetener. Tastes like a mild lemonade. You could also flavor with Mio or powdered drink packet or other water enhancers, instead. Refrigerate and grab in the morning to drink throughout the day along with plain water, might want a couple bottles each day. It leaves room to get electrolytes in food, but ensures you get enough to not feel horrible if you can't get enough from meals.

I use earasers. They fit like customs, but only cost $40. I've used etymotic technology and others in the past, and I think these have the most clarity. I've used them at concerts and in performance settings (professional musician ~15 years). Also, I feel like these are the least noticeable in your ears. Mine came with a metal case.

EDIT: No matter which you decide on, WEAR EAR PLUGS. Save your ability to enjoy the music you love for the rest of your life.

First, know that it will get better with time! Over 2-3 more weeks, your body will become accustomed to lifting heavy weights, and instead of having crazy DOMS after every workout, you'll transition to a very low-intensity, comfortable soreness that sort of never goes away. It won't even feel like you're sore, but you'll know you worked out. The kind of barely-sore that makes you go, "ooh yeah, that feels good!" when you stretch.

If you need a week to recover this time, that's fine. Don't wait until you're 100% recovered though, just at least until you can sit on the potty without cringing. After your next workout, maybe it'll only take your 4-5 days to recover to a comfortable level of soreness. Then the next time, 3 days, and so on.

To help recover faster - I find that doing a light/slow jog (maybe 15-20 minutes) followed by a long stretch session (30 minutes) helps the most. Stretch lightly a couple minutes before bed and right when you wake up. Get lots of protein to rebuild the muscle.

Regarding being too poor to bulk: FALSE. I'm on a grad-student budget, and I go to the big-box grocery store and buy a bag of like 30 frozen chicken breasts for $10. Yeah, it's not the organic, fresh stuff I usually get, but it's still protein, and it tastes fine. You can get them at Kroger, Meijer, Ralphs, Randalls, or wherever depending on where you are. Don't have enough money? Cut other stuff out of your food budget to replace with protein. Processed food is expensive. Fresh produce is less so. Don't buy juice, buy milk instead, and only drink milk and water. Instead of buying $2 protein bars, buy protein powder - big capital cost, but better for individual servings. A big tub will last a while, and it tastes decent. Other cheap food with lots of protein: BEANS. Eat them beans! Beans with vegetables mixed in. On a tortilla. Go to the "world food aisle" (or tortilleria if you're in the Southwest) and buy the cheapest corn tortillas you can find. Cheaper than bread, less carbs, and more "slices" per "loaf." Pile beans and chicken on there, with veggies. Cheapest meal there is.

Finally, my therapist suggested the following exercise- while you're in bed, think about 3 things you see, feel, and hear. Then think about 2 things you see, feel, and hear. Then 1 thing you see, feel, and hear. Keep cycling this until you drift off.

Easiest question first: Yes it's just for added protein. Everyone's got different macronutrition goals, mine includes A LOT of protein for muscle gainz. This may or may not apply to everyone. I use protein powder in a number of ways, the main ones being 1. Protein shakes when I don't feel like eating food but need to 2. Adding to baked goods and stuff like pancakes so I don't feel guilty about eating pancakes. 3. Adding to Greek yogurt so I don't have to drink a protein shake.

My recipe for shakes is typically:

2 scoops of powder
8oz flavored soy or almond milk (chocolate or vanilla)
8oz of unsweetened soy or almond milk (vanilla)

I do the half and half because I found that if I try to do 16oz of the regular sweetened kind, it's like drinking pudding mix. Gag. You could also do water instead of the unsweetened to make it thinner. I don't do all water though because that's just as bad as the pudding blend.

Harder questions: It tastes like whatever they want it to taste like. I used to get the kind you can find at the grocery store or on Amazon, mainly Myoplex or Optimum Nutrition. ON is generally considered a good buy, Myoplex is kind of meh, I just got it in bulk once because I could. They come in different flavors based on the brand, ON has lots of flavor choices. The problem with these is that they pretty much universally contain artificial sweeteners which everyone has different opinions on.

Personally, I don't care for them, I'd rather add sweetness via whatever I'm adding the protein to. I found http://www.truenutrition.com/ which allows you to create custom protein blends, including the options for different or no sweeteners, and different or no flavors. I got the unsweetened unflavored Team Skip blend from the Formulas/Protein Formulas tab. Just because I'm not smart enough to make my own blend. It does add a little texture to the yogurt but I like it, adding the agave smooths it back out too.

Since this is /r/loseit, it depends on the individual's needs as to whether this is something worth adding to the diet - the extra protein can add satiety and help curb hunger/cravings as well. I don't really have that problem since I usually struggle to eat everything I'm supposed to eat (like, a crapton of eggs and plain chicken and broccoli.)

Oh snap i just had a really good idea, tomorrow i'm going to try to add protein to my breakfast oatmeal. Thanks for sparking that one! I usually make my oatmeal with almond milk as well, this will make it even better and I can use up my old Myoplex crap.

I have a 9-5 and I lift from 7 AM - 8:30 AM. Not every workout is 1.5 hours but that's my window.

For me, the trick has been and always will be caffeine. Namely getting it into my bloodstream as fast as possible.

Here are some tactics to get out of bed:

  • Drink preworkout in bed. Have a large glass of water on the nightstand, a plastic spoon, a scoop or 2 of preworkout, pre-measured waiting to go. When the alarm goes off, dump the preworkout into the water, mix, chug, and lay back down. In 15 minutes or so the caffeine will begin to go to work. You won't be able to sleep, so get up! The plastic spoon is to save your spouse from having to listen to you mix.

  • Caffeine pill. Same as the tactic above. Wake up, slam, and lay back down. You won't be snoozing for long.

  • If you can actually get out of bed and get caffeine into you quickly, it's a lot easier to get your day started. I crankily wake up, drink preworkout in the kitchen, and then force myself to pack my gym bag and clothes for the day. After 5-10 minutes, I feel fine.

    It's never going to feel great waking up super early to lift, but after a while, it just becomes a part of your schedule.

    Lastly, try to wake up at the same time every day regardless if it's a training or rest day. Having the same schedule helps your body adjust and wake/sleep more easily. On rest days, I still wake up at 6 AM, but I play Xbox, do laundry, or even grocery shop. As a 30-year-old dude with a fiancee and 2 dogs, any time to myself is much appreciated!

    Oh yeah, I'm a light sleeper too. White noise has helped immensely in masking noises from outside my condo. I prefer physical white noise, as opposed to a digital sound, so I bought this: http://www.amazon.com/Marpac-DOHM-DS-Natural-actual-Machine/dp/B000KUHFGM. I love it.

These work pretty great imo. Got them for when bassnectar came thru Chicago for the Spring Gathering and did not regret it.


Pros:
1.) Sound quality: They have built in attenuators, so they don't just muffle the sound. Sound quality remains solid because they still allow certain frequencies to pass through to the ear canal, but they limit the volume by about + or- 5 to 10db. That didn't sound like a lot to me when I first got them, but damn it made a difference. Woke up the next morning with no ringing or hearing fatigue.
2.) Comfort! I put these guys in right before Rezz started her set, and by the time Lorin started playing I completely forgot I had them in. I literally had keep making sure they hadn't slipped out during the show because I couldn't feel them in my ears after I adjusted.
3.) Clear Coated: Not proud of it, but am definitely self conscious about showing my age and didn't wanna be judged by anyone for wearing ear plugs and looking old as shit in a crowd that's usually a couple years younger than me lol (I know it's irrational, leave me be. I'm old, god damnit.) But it's really honestly hard to tell someone has them in unless you're standing next to them or really looking hard. So there's that also.
4.) Storage: They come with a tiny clear case for storage that doesn't take up too much pocket space.


Cons:
1.) Expensive: They cost 40$...as far as ear plugs go that's more than most. So if you're like me and lose a lot of shit (especially when I'm at shows) be cautious getting them. Haven't lost them yet, but festival season is upon us, so we'll see if I can manage to keep track of 'em.


Definitely recommend them if you trust yourself not to lose them!

I used to have two chihuahua-mixes. One was high-anxiety.

When we also had two cats, the dogs couldn't relax unless they were in a room with the door closed where the cats could not go. The dogs would stay vigilant the entire time the cats were around. The high-anxiety dog would follow the cats around and try to herd them. We had to re-home the cats (due to allergies we weren't aware of before) and the dogs were so much calmer after that. I know you said you tried closing the door, but, maybe he won't feel relaxed unless the cats no longer live there.

Exercise also really helps with their anxiety. I understand this isn't your dog and you are doing your best. Maybe someone else will have a great idea to help in this area.

You could try a thundershirt? It didn't work for my anxious dog but there are lots of success stories.

If noises set him off, you could try a white noise machine. You can even download a white noise machine app on your phone to test it out. The dog could go in a room without cats, and have the white noise turned on.

To me it seems like you may have done everything you can. It sounds as though the dog would need a lot of training and effort to get him to be happier and more well-adjusted, and your roommate isn't willing to do that :(

My bike is a screamer with it's werkes pipe, so I have tried a good bit of plugs.

For ease of use get a massive box of 3Ms off amazon and put like five pairs in your pocket, use them and toss them.

For the middle ground you seek, these are really easy to put in and let some but not all of the noise in.

For the best of the best, go to a bike show and find one of the guys making custom molded ear plugs and get a couple sets made. That's what I ride with now and they are great. I can still hear what's going on and my ears don't ring any more when I go to bed after a day of riding.

I actually prefer the higher level of protection after using them all, which I never thought I would say, but I'm pretty sure my hearing was going to shit by not wearing anything for so long....and there's no real turning back from that...

I'd like to expand on his advice since I was the one who helped calculate your macros to begin with :)

  • Whether you decide to count calories or macros the same concept applies. Calories in vs Calories out. If you consume less calories than your body needs you will lose weight. Macros are made up of calories (1g of protein/carbs = 4 calories & 1g of fat = 9 calories), so if you're counting your macros you're technically counting your calories as well.
  • The only downside I see to counting calories is if the ratios are extremely off. For example, all calories solely coming from carbs and not enough protein is consumed. However, I'd like to point out that the breakdown I gave you (40/40/20) is simply a guide. If you are slightly off, or have pizza once a week, you'll be fine! The goal should be to hit your macros 80% of the time (I shoot for M-F at a minimum).
  • As far as protein powder goes, you can't go wrong with this. This is a great value protein and you can choose to either drink it straight up, make a smoothie/shake, or eat it! (I prefer to eat it).
  • One of favorite things for breakfast is a simple 3 ingredient protein oatmeal. I put a 1/2 cup of quick oats in the microwave with 1 cup water. Cook 1 1/2 minutes, once it's done I mix in 1 scoop of vanilla protein powder. The secret to making it taste good? Walden's Farm Zero Calorie Pancake Syrup.

Magnesium Threonate theoretically crosses the blood-brain barrier easier. I personally find it to be less sedating or calming than the Magnesium Citrate I take at night. It is pricier, but the research so far shows promising results. Also, my doc recommended it!

According to this study from the Journal of Alzheimer's Disease: "In an intact rodent, treatment with conventional magnesium salts is ineffective at elevating brain magnesium and improving memory function. This is because active transport systems tightly control the amount of magnesium that crosses first from digestive tract into blood, and then from blood to cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). Now my diet was and is very repetitive and boring, and to be honest I was limited to a budget so I couldn't go harder on my diet but above is a basic version of it.

My portions are decently sized and it took my sometimes more than an hour to eat all of this when I was starting out, I had little appetite and would get full easy so I just sat down at the table and focused on finishing everything, I tried to make sure I was full at all times except before the gym.

I only listed 3 meals here but those were the big 3, I would eat in between as well.

My mass gainer was: Optimum Nutrition Serious Mass + whole milk + 2-3 Bananas + 1 tbsp Honey

The mass gainer had the most fat/carbs but it really helped put on size fast, and i'm well aware I had an excess of protein, drinking a good amount of water was also key.

So eating Paleo (read Grain Brain) is a diet all about reducing inflammation in the body. It also gives a list of supplements that are recommend by the neurologist that wrote the book. A lot of people with Autoimmune, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, Diabetes, Gluten Intolerance and other allergies have had amazing results on this diet. All of which are linked by inflammation. Two additional things that will help.

Gelatin Supplement

2 Take a melatonin supplement. It's what your body makes to help you sleep but sometimes when are bodies are sick and exhausted it doesn't produce enough. It will force you to get deeper REM and wake up more rested. Start with 5mg and tweak it to your needs. I have been taking it for about 10 years and I now take 20mg. I am 30, 5'7" & weigh 155.


Melatonin Supplement

Remember just like meds you may have to tweak brands and dosages in order to find the most effective results. But you should get relief within about a week of doing at least these two things.
A combination of all of this though took me from incapable of functioning and working a job to almost completely normal and now very successful at work and still improving.

I ate a lot of chicken and eggs. I also ate a lot of pasta, mostly chicken Alfredo and other pastas with meat. Yogurt, rice, bread, and milk were also good. I tried to stay away from foods that were high in fat but you don't have to watch what you eat as much when you are bulking. The protein that I used is called Serious Mass . I liked the chocolate peanut butter flavor and I would add two scoops to some milk, banana, ice, and a little bit of ice cream in a blender. I drank this after workouts and I would spilt it up into two servings because it is a lot to drink all at once. I pretty much just set a goal of 4000 calories and 190g protein everyday.

As far as my gym routine, I split my workouts up for each muscle group. I would do chest, back, legs, shoulders, arms, legs again, and then repeat it. Each workout, I would do about 30 min of warming up and stretching. I also took preworkout to help get that extra boost. I can go in more detail when i get home about what lifting I actually did each day if you would like to know that as well?

I like great lakes collagen or the bullet proof is also good. They are kind of expensive, but they basically have replaced protein powder for me. If you want to be able to throw it into smoothies I recommend the great lakes, because it mixes better in cold drinks. Bullet proof gets chunky in smoothies, but has a wider range of amino acids.

FAST is about your self-respect OR ending the relationship. In this case, the relationship is not the priority, YOU are. For example, if someone is taking advantage of you and using you, you might use FAST.

That all being said, you have a few options to deal with your neighbor. Hopefully, some of these might give you some ideas you can use that will be helpful.

First, before speaking to them directly, What noise is the dog making exactly? Is it barking? Or is it just moving around (paws on the floor type noise)? If it's not barking and it's just motion noise, I think you might just have to deal with it, or ask the neighbor to get some carpet if they have bare floors. You could also try recording the noise in your apartment to play for both the neighbor and the landlord to prove your point. (ie: here's how loud your dog is at 2am)

What does your lease say about animals? Are they allowed or does your neighbor have a dog that they shouldn't have? Does the lease mention anything about complaints regarding animals and how to address them? If the lease says nothing about animals, you might want to speak to your landlord and see if you can file a complaint through your management company regarding any kind of barking. If this is a long-term rental (condo) you could ask the management company about putting in some kind of sound dampening/insulation between the walls of your units. This is where you could play your recording for them to prove to them how loud it sounds in your apartment. If the dog is barking late at night chances are you are not the only person who is pissed off by it.

If the management company is 'hands off' you could try approaching the neighbor, or writing a letter to the neighbor (if you don't want to speak with them directly) It is possible they don't realize how loud the dog is being. They are just 'used' to it.

If they don't resolve the noise regarding the dog, you should then start filing complaints with city bylaw. If the dog is barking for hours at a time and it's not stopping, and you've attempted to speak to the landlord, and your neighbor and nothing is changing, call your city bylaw department. Here's an example from LA Animal Service regarding Nuisance Barking. Some places want you to contact your local animal shelter and some want you to contact bylaw. Call your city to find out who to report this to. Keep in mind though, if you do this after all the other steps, your neighbor will know that it was you that called to file a noise complaint and may make things difficult for you. (I had it happen with my neighbor who would get pissed drunk and sit out on his porch blaring music and screaming along for hours at a time)

Your other nonconfrontational options include, getting a white noise machine or using a regular fan (works exactly the same but isn't as compact.) You can also try noise-cancelling headphones or earplugs at night when you sleep.

Your last resort would be to wait until the lease is up or break your lease (again, check your lease agreement for penalties). You could also ask the management company to move you to a different apartment within the complex away from the dog person (but that wouldn't necessarily guarantee you peace from other neighbors.)

I've actually thrown "Miracle Berry" parties several times and it's a lot of fun! Just walk around a grocery store and try to think of everything that tastes sour and buy it! Some tips from my experiences... Each tablet will last you about 15-60 minutes (generally about 30 before effects diminish), not ALL the sourness goes away (lemons do not taste like pure sugar), thoroughly dissolve the tablet in your mouth (3-5 minutes) and then wait a couple more for the full effect, and lastly, bitterness is NOT the same as sourness. Eating the lemon peel will still be incredibly bitter.

Lemons/limes: Taste like the best lemonade/limeade ever

Pineapple: Incredibly delicious, but almost TOO sweet for some people

Oranges/orange juice: Really depends on the kind, but can substantially change the flavor

Hot Sauce: Vinegar almost tastes sugary, so it is both sweet and spicy

Pickled items: Again, vinegar becomes rather sweet

Cheese: Some cheeses taste like "dessert" cheese, especially sharp cheeses, cream cheese, cottage cheese, and goat cheese. Some people don't seem to be as effected by the cheeses as other though.

Beer/Wine: Not as profound as citrus, but definitely changes the flavor profile


Random note of caution: You'll end up wanting to eat a TON of citrus foods. This will give you an upset stomach if you don't moderate.

Call me a corporate shill but I use a happy lamp and, I know it's anecdotal, but it makes a huge difference for my mood and energy in the winter months.

You can get a 10,000 lux lamp on amazon for 40-50 dollars. Use it for 30 minutes in the morning while you are drinking your morning coffee. Game changer.

There is no research to suggest that inhaling ionized air is beneficial. There is plenty of science to support the benefit of these lights for SAD as long as the strength of the light is 10,000 lux. This is important. Again, there is no scientific evidence to support that anything less than this will be beneficial. As with any product, user mileage will vary so I can't, in good conscious, suggest that you buy one of the "higher end" models for 200-400 dollars without knowing if you benefit so this is a good option. Having seen one of the more expensive lights be used in the resident room of the hospital I worked at, I suspect the more expensive ones do the same thing but are more aesthetically pleasing and have a larger spread of light.

As for use, the idea is to expose your skin to the light. I have it sitting on my dining room table so, in the morning while I drink my coffee and surf reddit, it's hitting my face. I use it for 30 minutes a day.

Another white noise fan. This is what I use. I like the sound of air moving better electronic white noise.

Melatonin helps me drift off. It doesn't make me sleepy, but if I'm already a little tired, my thoughts become more like dreams than thoughts, and I stop reacting to sounds or ideas. Isn't enough if I'm wired or wound up.

I also take mitrazipine now, which is similar to trazadone. They are antidepressants that are also commonly used to treat anxiety and insomnia, among other things. I take a tiny dose, specifically to help me sleep. Taking it doesn't change the rest of my medication plan, it's just a little bump. Docs commonly give trazadone to old folks who can't sleep due to evening anxiety - it's that harmless (compared to other sleep and anxiety drugs). My 93 year old grandmother who was medically frail was taking it!

I don't do this, but I diaphragmatic breathing is very helpful for bringing down the anxiety and can help get you out of your head. So peaceful. Plenty of tutorials online.

I can't comment on n-acetyl cysteine, but whenever I don't take magnesium supplements with amphetamines I chew the shit out of my gums and cuticles. I still occasionally do it after taking magnesium, but the urge is mostly gone.

If you decide to try out magnesium, make sure you don't get magnesium oxide. It's not absorbed well and is pretty much useless. Magnesium glycinate, lysinate, and citrate are some of the best forms. This stuff is the best I've found, a 240ct bottle will last for ages.

The science of the optimum metabolic window (which prompts the recommendation to eat w/in 30-45 minutes of working out) is pretty shaky. It may or may not be necessary to consume some protein and carbs to fuel optimum muscle repair during that time, but it certainly won't hurt! For me, eating right after a workout helps stave off the "oh my goodness I'm so hungry I could eat eight hippos" impulse and headaches, too.

I also think of a post-workout protein shake or protein bar as my source of extra workout-day calories, so I don't have to mess with my meal planning for the rest of the day. I like Optimum Nutrition's whey protein to mix with milk or coffee and the Think Thin protein bars. (Hate the branding, love the macros.)

I have an actual white noise machine in my living room and one near my bed. I run them almost constantly. I have tried Vit C, I can't say it had much of an effect on me.
I can't say it didn't either - but nothing I could specifically pinpoint one way or the other.

The only supplement I had any success with was Magnesium (specifically this kind - which is elemental as opposed to Magnesium Oxide most commonly found). My doctor has me on 4 tablets a day (800mg).

It has helped with muscle spasms and pooping. :)

I also took some Vit D for awhile (as my bloodwork showed I was deficient) - I got it back up to proper levels with supplements and have been doing better mentally and physically since. Though I have had a lot of transitions in my life since that point - so while I am certain it had a positive impact for me, ymmv.

Loose filters can be a number of problems. Too small of a filter being the easiest thing to blame it on. If you roll straights it can be hard to make the filter stay in, I usually try to keep the filter rolled as tightly as possible and pinch it between my fingers when rolling so it will expand to fit the paper when I let go, I sometimes rip gum tips off papers and use the glue to keep filters in when I'm having trouble. Alternatively if you roll straights, I find rolling cones really makes the filter sit better, as well as smoking better. If all else fails a raw rolling machine (I bought mine couple years back at my local headshop couple years back for something like 4$, and its never failed me) is a great investment for really cheap and wont break on you anytime soon. If you load one of these with about a .8 of rolling batch and a pretty fat filter it will roll you something that is extremely similar to a brand name somke in both look and feel. Background

I want to start taking magnesium, primarily for the sleep quality improving benefits. I've read that I should also supplement D3, K2, and maybe one or two other things. I'm almost certain my diet does not provide significant amounts of any of these 3 (and the list probably goes on.)

I did A LOT of research on Magnesium ended up quitting multiple times and just not getting anything. I'm hoping to avoid that and finally pull the trigger on some supplements.

For magnesium, I've decided to target the glycintate form; it seems that the [arguably more efficient] dermal applications are very difficult to dose properly. Glycinate has high bio-availability/absorption (compared to other oral applications,) low/no laxative effects, and is reasonably priced.

QUESTIONS:

  1. What's the cheapest way to acquire magnesium glycinate without having to worry about buffering (ie. part of the dosage being oxide or some other form) or other negative additives (possible toxins and so on)? There's a reviewer on Amazon who appears to have done some serious research on magnesium supplements, and writes a very compelling review of Doctor's Best.. I've been recommended a powder before as well, which seems much cheaper, but I'm not sure about purity, dosage, how to consume, etc because there are no detailed reviews or anything... Recommendations?

  2. What other supplements besides D3 and K2 should I be taking?

  3. What form of each should I target (I spent A LOT of time researching magnesium, and if I try to do that again, I'm going to burn out and just not get anything...)

  4. Specific product recommendations (preferably with a bit of information/explanation?) As with the magnesium, money is an object, so I'm trying to strike a good balance between price and quality (example: for whey protein, I've bought MyProtein unflavored and Vitamin Shoppe Bodytech, which by all accounts is repackaged Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard. Both are much cheaper than Optimum, and I wait to catch them on big sales -- thanks slickdeals. So essentially I'm targeting good stuff, but not going for top shelf.)


    Other non-so-necessary, but possibly relevant info:

    I just started going to the gym after a fairly substantial hiatus. Additionally, I'm tracking macros, and I've acquired decent quality weigh protein to assist me in meeting my daily protein goals.

    I've noticed that my sleep is kinda crappy, and I am suspicious that part of the issue is certain deficiencies, like magnesium and vitamin D (I've eliminated blue light before bed, try not to eat for a few hours before sleeping, and all the other recommended remedies, and I have reason to believe it's not sleep apnea or anything of the sort.)

I promise it will get better! Eliminating your allergens will make you feel so good, and you'll realize that it's worth it. I also feel like it's worth noting that naturopaths do not do the testing themselves. Bloodwork gets sent out to labs.

Regarding intestinal repair, I highly recommend hydrolyzed gelatin, and probiotics! The gelatin really helps heal the lining of the intestines, and the probiotics helps replenish the good bacteria that is lacking, which is creating the excessive allergy producing environment. Have you read up on leaky gut/intestinal permeability?

Be careful if you're getting sick, and as others have said, make sure you always have insulin on board. The risk is increased because you're consistently producing ketones and imbalances in BS+ketones will lead to DKA. So you have to be even more vigilant about BS & insulin levels, but that turns out to be a lot easier when you're not eating carbs. :)

I've been doing keto pretty frequently for several months now, only taking a few days off over the course of it, and I feel amazing. I probably average 40-60 carbs a day and don't seem to exit keto at those levels.

/r/keto is a good resource as well. I've found that magnesium/potassium/sodium levels are really important for me, so I drink sugar-free Emergenc Electrolyte Mix frequently (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002HWRY5S/).

Cool, sounds like you have a good nutrition game plan.

I use an Omron Fat Loss Monitor to track my bf%. It initially showed an unrealistically low bf% for me but it is very consistent. I used a tape measure and a bf calculating website to figure up the difference then used that number as my offset. i.e. Omron says 12% tape measure method says 20% so your offset is 8.

The benefit to doing it this way is the Omron is easy and quick where the tape measure pretty much requires my wife to help do it accurately. I try to measure every week or two. After 6 months or so do another tape measure check to ensure your offset hasn't changed. Mine changed by 2 over the course of a year.

Take this advise with a grain of salt, I concocted this method after reading many articles and /r/fitness posts about bf%. It seems reasonable to me.

2 years ago I was 185lbs at 6'7". I started to gain muscle by talking to multiple trainers at multiple gyms and types of training. It comes down to high weight, low reps. Check out 5x5 Stronglifts if you are somewhat of a beginner/novice. It has a great way to plow through plateaus and will make you work on full-body exercises. For tall guys like us, youtube was a huge help in form for stuff like squats and deadlifts. I'm a firm believer that the only thing stopping you is yourself. Easier to say than do though. Be disciplined, put reminders up that are highly visible, and find a way to be accountable that kicks at your guilt. I had to learn that it's not "motivation" that gets you there, it's discipline, and a solid week of whining about being hungry and crying about the fact I wanted chips... Everything you do in life is a decision! YOU have to decide you want it, because where there's a will, there's a way. Here's my motivation that keeps me going. I had to learn to stop making excuses for why I was failing.

I'd recommend you get rid of *all your crap food in the house. Change rules with your roomates to where you don't share food with them, or even better, get your own shelf for your groceries, and a mini fridge for produce so you can't be tempted by seeing all their goodies. Get an air purifier for your room so you can retreat if someone is going to bake pizza, or cookies that smell enticing.

I might also recommend a SUN LAMP if you work overnight. It will help with your sleep, which will help everything else out. The body does weird things when you don't rest properly. Had one since end of college and I swear it's the best thing ever IF YOU USE IT REGULARLY.

I hope you can find something I've said helpful, best of luck. The road to any form of recovery is never easy.

  • Sportsheets Underbed restraints - not as rough as handcuffs and easy to set up. Like these

  • Wartenburg wheel - run it along her thighs while she's tied down, it'll get her twitching like she's having an exorcism.

  • Blindfold

  • Hitachi Magic Wand - to tease her during your refractory period and keep her wet.

    This is relatively mild compared to some stuff you see here, but its a start. Definitely recommend the underbed restraints though. Very fun and easy.

I know you said no pills, but I think that's your best bet for magnesium.

As for potassium, go grab nu-salt. It's full of potassium. I use sodium free salt so it has like 700mg of potassium in a 1/4 tsp.

There are several different ways to do it but most all require special gizmos. The usual cheap method is using calipers like these, but from what I've heard that can be pretty inaccurate and inconsistent unless you really know what you're doing. I use this little guy, it's pretty consistent though I'm not completely sure how accurate it is because I have nothing to verify it against other than the fact that it seems to be in the right ballpark. Then there's fancy water-dunking type tests you can get done but they are expensive.

I think I've heard other people on here say that some gyms will have the calipers or a digital thingamabob like mine that they can measure you with so you could ask at your gym if you're curious.

I've built 2 RGs and haven't had any problems due to size or parts being flimsy. I also have big and very shaky hands. Here's my advice:

  • I think we all drop and lose parts from time to time. The best way to handle this is to build in a clean space. Make sure your floor is clean, vacuumed, etc. before you begin. Make sure your lighting is good too!

  • A good pair of tweezers is a godsend when working with small parts. Also consider a helping hand.

  • When making the frame, make sure to gently bend the joints back and forth a bit to loosen them up before putting the armor on them. If you fail to do that and attempt to move the piece before loosening it up, you do risk damaging the part. This is mostly due to the pre-assembled nature of the RG frame.

    RGs are very fun kits that don't take up a lot of shelf space while also looking very impressive. I'm very happy with the ones I've built and I've got a couple more on deck. I highly recommend you try one. People talk up the RG 00 Raiser a lot and I personally built the RG Wing Zero and RG 00 Qan[t] and had few problems with them. (The RG 00 Qan[t] does have a loose V-fin problem so I recommend some plastic cement or glue for that.)

Really doesn't matter much really; a lot of people (me included) like Optimum Nutrition brand; their Gold line is fairly reasonable and tastes good. ON Gold Whey

You can get caught up in the minutia with this stuff, but it's really just to supplement the rest of your diet. I usually have 1 protein shake a day and try to get the rest from my foods; if I am short I will have another protein shake at night.

I am not a heavy lifter; I usually stick to around 200 pounds for 4 sets as my normal weight to maintain. Legs are about 220 or 30 for the same amount of sets.

If your coming from an injury make sure you have that entire muscle group well rehabed. My wife had the same surgery as you a while back and had to take it pretty slow before she actually was able to do weights on it.

Some other healthy snacks that I like;

Pretzels and yogurt, plain tuna with celery, protein type cereal like special k protein, 12 Grain bread with peanut butter (careful as these are dense calories), Salsa with some wheat pita chips; theres endless choices just a matter of if you like them :)

I'm still pretty new to this myself, but like you I have some electronics experience in the past. I just got this Weller 40w iron station with a desolder braid/sucker and a solder tip cleaner. Oh and a more precise tip for the solder iron

I'm really happy with it all so far, and couln't imagine needing more for a while. A heat gun would be nice for de-soldering and reflowing premade boards (like modding Boss pedals), but that can also be done with a regular solder iron as far as I know. You can get the above for about $60 total, so it's a nice way to get your feet wet without a huge investment. Then you gotta add on components/enclosures/pots/switches etc. Maybe get a helping hands and/or circuit holder if you need

Oh and get a good multimeter. I went a step up from the $20 ones and got this one which I'm also really happy with.

Its pretty common to not get enough magnesium in the typical american diet anyway, so when you are going on a diet that is known for having limited access to dietary magnesium (like keto) its probably wise to take a supplement.

Keep in mind that not all magnesium is created equal. Magnesium Oxide is the cheapest form used in supplements, but it isn't absorbed very well. I took a supplement that used primarily Magnesium Oxide for awhile and it gave me digestive issues. I switched to chelated magnesium and things have been much better. I use Doctor's Best Chelated Magnesium, but I'm sure there are other good brands. Look for "high absorbency" magnesium or check labels and avoid Magnesium Oxide.

I wouldn't worry about monitoring magnesium intake too closely. The National Institutes of Health says you can safely supplement up to 350mg per day (that's in addition to magnesium from food), and that too much magnesium in the diet doesn't pose a health risk since the excess is excreted via urine. Magnesium toxicity can have more serious effects, but you need to consume upwards of 5,000 mg/day to get to that point. That is extremely hard to do.

To add on to what danceswithronin said, I would be very surprised if you get enough magnesium in your diet. Taking a magnesium supplement would assist very well in the ease of going #2. Get some Vitamin K2 to go with the magnesium, if you want to try it, as it will help with absorption. You need to build up to the recommended amount as whatever magnesium you fail to absorb is a laxative.

Both Vitamin K2 and magnesium are very cheap for a big bottle of each. When I get home I'l edit my post to show what type of magnesium to get since there are a few different types and you want a specific one to take.

Here are links to the magnesium and vitamin K2 I buy. You don't need to get the same brand, but you do want to get Chelated magnesium similar to what is in the stuff I buy as it is easier to absorb and won't cause the laxative effect as badly. Coupled with the vitamin K2 it will not only help you feel better, but also keep things running smoothly down there. I have found that I am very regular and it is super easy to go #2 since I started taking those 2 supplements.

I can recommend musician's earplugs I ordered on Amazon awhile back. They reduce the volume but still let you hear sound clearly.

These 'eardial invisible earplugs' are rated to reduce sound by 11db. The foam earplugs block a lot more sound than any musicians earplugs but musician earplugs still do a great job and are more functional. This model is on the smaller side and fit my ears better than any other earplug I've tried. Just a warning thought they aren't actually invisible just somewhat hard to see imo.

Another one I've tried are these 'eargasm high fidelity earplugs'. It's rated to reduce sound by 15db. Both of the earplugs I linked to come with a keychain holder that comes in useful when out and about. If I had to choose between the two I'd go with the first because it fits better but they really both deaden noise to a more tolerable level when my ears are sensitive.

Sodium: Salt all of the food that you eat!!! That will be the easiest way. I also will occasionally mix 1/2tsp - 1tsp lite salt with a Powerade Zero, split it in half and mix it the remainder with water. Gives me two drinks for the day. I will also drink broth, usually at night before bed just because it tastes good!

Potassium: Lite Salt will also help big time with this. Another good way is to eat leafy greens (mainly spinach for me), avocados, fish, mushrooms, etc. (Just google: "foods high in potassium", for an extensive list).

Magnesium: Again, leafy greens, fish, nuts, avocados, etc. I also supplement magnesium by taking one of these every night before bed: HERE! It really helped stop waking up in the middle of the night with ungodly painful leg cramps.

That's how I keep my electrolytes in check. If I ever feel tired or lightheaded, I'll just drink a cup of broth, but I rarely have to do that.

I recommend Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Whey Isolate, its definitely good for the price. On Amazon a 5lb tub is around 55 dollars. Extreme Milk Chocolate is by far the best flavor. You can usually never go wrong with chocolate flavors. Isolate is the way to go, its usually plentiful in protein, while being low on carbs. You'll want to get your carbs from a whole source.

Meal replacements need your macros: Protein, Carbs and Fats. So, some Whey, Oats, and Whole milk, blend. Done. If your calorie conscious, Whey, half oats (or skip the oats for low-carb), fat free milk (or half whole milk, half water), done.

Casual meal replacement use one scoop whey. Post workout, use two scoops. Be prepared though, Whey Protein can add up over time and get pretty expensive. You may go through the whole 5lb tub in a month.

Yep you're correct.

When soldering there are a few basic things you have to consider. The main idea is that you want to heat up the wire and the contact point to the point that the solder will "wick" to the parts. You don't want to just melt the solder on the iron itself and have it drizzle on the parts.

Here are some other basic tips I wish I had been told when I was learning to soldering electronics in no logical order:

  • USE A WELL VENTILATED AREA. DO NOT BREATHE IN FUMES!!!! That stuff is really bad for you. Do it in an open garage, or under a kitchen hood.
  • Make sure you use solder with rosin core flux. NOT ACID CORE FLUX. That's for plumbing.
  • Thinner solder is easier to work with, you can always use more.
  1. Use the appropriate size iron for the job or you risk problems like the OP. For something like the 3DS, I'd probably go no bigger than a 35W iron.
  2. You want the solder to look shiny when you're done. If it's dull looking, it's a cold solder point and a bad contact point. Any movement while cooling frequently causes this problem.
  3. One of these makes a huge difference. It's cheap and worth buying if you plan to do much electronics soldering.
  4. Keep your soldering iron tip clean. Frequently wipe it down on a wet paper towel or a wet sponge while using it.
  5. Don't reuse solder. It's cheap, and the flux inside is important to help it flow.
  6. Tin the tip of your iron with solder as well as the wire you plan to solder. It's easier to just hold the tinned wire down with an iron where you need to solder than to use another hand to hold solder.
  7. Don't bother with those gimmicky solder removers to take solder off. Just buy some solder wick and watch it suck all solder off using the solder's wicking action as you hold it on with an iron.

    But most of soldering is just practice. It's a pretty easy skill to get proficient at. After a few projects it'll be almost second nature.

BF is what percentage of your body (as an estimate) is made of as fat as opposed to muscle, etc. Muscle is more dense, so for people that lift weight BMI doesn't work (for example, probably ALL NFL athletes are "overweight" to "obese" including wide receivers, quarterbacks, etc according to BMI scale because they "weigh" a lot, however most of that is muscle).

160 is probably the "proper" weight (according to BMI) for someone 5'11" that may not have as much muscle on their body, but is in no way even close to overweight.

It's kind of an inexact science to detect body fat composition because SO MANY factors change it (your hydration level, heart rate [I think], food in your stomach, and so on) that quick and easy ways don't always work well (calipers test I'm told is pretty inaccurate).

I agree that if you are used to the air handler, that may be a different story, but for people not used to forced air heat (like guests) the on off of the air handler is not subltle at all.

Just say you like to sleep with a fan on and use a desk fan. Box fans actually move air more quietly than a smaller fan, so for this purpose a smallish desk fan is probably best.

I do a protein shake after climbing (I use this one) mixed with almond milk and occasionally have another one with lunch as well.

I just started taking Creatine HCL yesterday after researching a lot about it. I mix it with BCAA's since HCL form is very sour, but the popular mono- creatine I've heard a lot of people mix with a protein shake after working out. No calories between the two - I use Scivation Xtend Pink Lemonade for the BCAA and Beyond Raw for the creatine.

I am trying out a caffienated BCAA from Gnarly Nutrition for my pre-workout drink. I've used other true preworkouts, and I hate the jitters and sweat that comes with it. I've always taken BCAA's before and do notice less muscle soreness and better recovery, so my hope is the caffeine combined with it will give me the little boost I need.

Black coffee is another good preworkout with no calories to give the energy boost you might be looking for, but if you're not very sensitive to caffeine one of the others that has other stimulants might be a better fit I suppose.

Okay. Follow my instructions:


  1. Read this section on diet from the r/Fitness FAQ.
    • You weigh 164 pounds, so aim for 164g of protein daily. You might want to buy a thing of this if you're having trouble getting all your protein from meat.
    • Your BMR is 1780 (I'm disregarding your activity rate). Start with that for one week. Week two and onwards, eat 1500 calories.
  2. Find a low carb diet.
    • Keto is really easy to follow, the #1 rule is don't eat any carbs. It's not a magical weight loss solution, it just takes a lot of thinking out of weight loss.
  3. Read the section on exercise and the section on weight loss.
  4. You're going to be doing Starting Strength. Buy the book (hold out on your next video game purchase) and a gym membership (a legit gym, not planet fitness).
    • You follow the plan exactly as it is laid out. You do not modify the plan.
    • You workout three times a week -- Monday, Wednesday, Friday or Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday.
    • Check out the Starting Strength wiki.
    • If you have to start with the bar, you start with the bar.
    • Do not use a smith machine past the first week. You do squats in the squat rack. You bench like this.
    • Form is important.
    • Form is important.
  5. Have a scoop of whey mixed in one glass of milk 0-30 minutes before you work out.
  6. Keep track of calories. Find something to do it for you, like MyFitnessPal or DailyPlate. If something isn't on there, either you enter it or you find the closest match.
  7. Read the FAQ (all of it) every weekend.
  8. Come back in a month or two and ask if you're doing it right.

The fans aren’t really an issue. We use a noise maker for the kids that’s a little fan that just makes noise. It’s pretty amazing I added the link below and can’t recommend it enough. After our 1st kid we had to buy one for our bedroom because we couldn’t sleep without it!

Also we have a dyson fan and it’s worth the money.

I started it around the same time I got a bioimpedance fat loss monitor, which was in April. According to it, I've lost almost 10% body fat since then. I don't know how much I trust the monitor but honestly, I love the E/C stack for its appetite suppression. I cycle on it for 8 weeks and off it for 2 weeks. I can tell the difference when I'm off it, hunger wise.

It's nothing crazy but when I'm on the E/C stack, I have to set an alarm to remember to eat when my feeding window opens up. That's pretty useful. I could live without it but the appetite suppression + fat burning makes it pretty worth it.

It makes some people jittery but I have no adverse reactions personally.

My daily electrolyte supplements usually look like this:

  • 1 packet of ElectroMix mixed with a teaspoon or 2 of Natural Calm in a glass of water.
  • 1 chicken bullion cube mixed in a tall mug of hot water. (Sometimes I do this twice a day, depending on how I feel.)

    The rest of my electrolytes come from food. If I still feel unwell after the above, I may drink another ElectroMix. This seems to be working well for managing my induction.

    Remember: Spinach is a good source of potassium and other healthy nutrients. It never hurts to mix it into whatever you're making or have a side salad with some olive oil.

I’ve tried the etymotics and while they work, they were uncomfortable for me to wear for extended periods. Ended up getting Dubs which were more comfortable but I felt like they muffled sound sometimes.

Now I have Eargasm earplugs and I like them the most. I definitely recommend them. They’re the most comfortable without muffling sound, that I’ve tried. Plus they don’t have that little protruding plastic that come out of your ears, so you can wear a bandana with them.

Thank you! Light therapy is basically re training your body to wake up to "natural" light. Humans have historically woken up to the sun rising and shining in our faces, which is arguably the cause of a lot of depression and anxiety in our culture today. So my therapist recommended me two things, the Philips HF3520 wake-up alarm clock and the NatureBright SunTouch plus.


The Philips alarm clock wakes you up with a simulated sunrise in your room plus some more "gentle" alarm noises (aside from the beach with the annoying seagulls - unless that's your thing lol) which so far I'm loving. There are a few videos on YouTube of it that give you the run down on how it works, it's really cool.


The NatureBright light is basically a bright as hell light you shove in your face for half an hour within 15 mins of waking up. I've done some google research on the therapy and some say that with the alarm clock you would get your sufficient light therapy for the day but my psych was very insistent that I use the 10,000 lux lamp, especially if I could only afford one.

Which brings me to my next point... These aren't cheap at all. The total for both lights was $316 CAD with the fastest shipping, which to me could potentially be worth it if it helps even a little bit with my depression and/or anxiety. I know I've already spent over that amount on medication and I'd rather try to wean myself off of the meds and use more natural methods. I'm hoping this works, and so far it seems like it will be pretty effective, and maybe if someone else reading this decides to try light therapy it could help them out as well.

L-Tyrosine should be pretty universal among brands. Ive been using this one from Amazon with good success. I would recommend one 500mg capsule before bedtime. That should help you reset your dopamine for the next day. Start this out just every other night though, as I’ve noticed it still works well into the next day.

As far as magnesium goes, you’ll want to avoid the commonly available versions magnesium oxide and magnesium sulfate due to poor absorption into your system. Magnesium aspartate and citrate are good options here, with Chelated magnesium being the best. RDA is 400mg/day. Take 200mg twice daily with food if you can, or all at once if you have a hard time remembering. If you haven’t taken a mag supplement before, expect a temporary laxative effect from it for a week or two until your body gets used to it. If it’s giving you trouble, Imodium (or the Loperamide HCl generic) works well to slow bowel movement and counteract this.

they work I used this product though. I had to use two to really get the effect. Basically you let it dissolve on your tongue. I moved it with finger to didn't spots to get better coverage. Sweet doesn't change much, sour and bitter take super sweet.

Amazon carries Eargasm brand earplugs for $35. I use these for work (since I teach rock music for six hours a day lol) and these are consistently comfortable to wear and easy to clean. They also come with a little metal case to help keep them clean and safe while not in your eyes. Maybe these could help?

try to get some really good fats. make sure you're eating healthy saturated fats like cold pressed coconut oil and then also cold pressed hemp oil (and hemp seeds) and olive oil.

It's easy to miss getting good fats if you're just cooking with a refined oil or light vegetable oil. Fat is one thing that depletes a lot after switching to not eating animal sources, but the health and tissue of your brain rely heavily on good fat consumption through your diet.

Also check your magnesium intake. I'll always recommend hemp seeds because they have a lot of magnesium. But supplements work well too. Better Than Bouillon
The chicken flavor (2g carb/serving & sodium 29% DV) is my favorite, but they have other flavors too (the vegetable base only has 1g carb/serving).
Sometimes I add Sriracha (1g carb/tsp), garlic powder (2g carb/tsp) or a tablespoon of tomato paste (2g net carbs/Tbsp).

Nu-Salt
(potassium 15% DV/serving) I can usually find it at the grocery store for less than $3, and there's about 90 servings per can. I've tried some of the other potassium based salt substitutes and this one tastes the least like chemicals (it still doesn't taste good, but the benefits outweigh the flavor).

Magnesium Carbonate
(1/4 tsp = magnesium 84% DV) There are a few different forms of edible magnesium salt. This type is hard to find in it's food-grade form, but it has the least offensive flavor IMO. Bonus; this form of magnesium is also used as gym chalk, so you can use any extra to dust your hands if you take up climbing ;)

Emergen-C Electro Mix
This is one of the few electrolyte mixes that doesn't have carbs, but does have a decent amount of potassium (most have potassium <3% DV, this one has potassium 12% DV). Bonus; it also contains calcium, manganese and chromium.

I found that I needed to make a bowl of salty broth about once or twice a day when I was starting out with the keto diet (to help with digestion, occasional muscle cramping, slight nausea, the habit of eating larger volumes of food, etc.). A few months into it I had throttled down my salt supplementation to about a two times a week. Of course, everyone's body and experience is different, so you should do what feels right for you.

Just a heads up that labdoor.com tested that and it came up high in some heavy metals, so I stopped using it. Over at r/nootropics, we love Doctor's Best Mag Glycinate as the best for relaxation and sleep. Any glycinate form really, though I know the citrate and malate are good, too.

It's true that weight doesn't matter on its own. It's just a tool that we use to track fat loss. But depending on how quickly you're losing weight, it would be very difficult to put on muscle at the same rate, especially from cardio, as opposed to weight training. Muscle growth caps out around a couple pounds per month for most people. The world's strongest man may be around 400 lbs, but he can also deadlift over 1,000 pounds. It's just important to keep some perspective on that, because none of us are on his level.

It sounds like the psoriasis could play a role in the fat percent reading. You could try to use one of the impedance testers that goes through your hands (like this one). But I think the bigger factor is that the impedance fat percent testing just isn't that accurate to begin with. It can be influenced by all kinds of thing. When I test mine at night versus the following morning, it can easily differ by 4 or 5%. So I don't really trust it. The calipers are a good alternative, as long as you're careful to use them correctly, and the same each time.

I've been lifting heavily for some time now (while eating on a deficit), and muscle growth has certainly happened, but not quickly enough to stop weight loss. I find it's a lot harder to track getting healthy without being able to put some numbers to it. To each his own, though.

The white noise machines that play noise through a speaker are supposedly not as good as those that produce noise mechanically. This mechanical white noise machine is very well-regarded, however I own one and it still doesn't beat a box fan. With light there's a concept of getting a full spectrum light. It's similar with noise. You want a rich, wide spectrum of noise.

Barring that, there are phone apps you might try such as White Noise Lite, Relax Melodies, and Chroma Doze. Relax Melodies is pretty neat, as it lets you create custom noise by layering in different sounds. These apps are on Google Play, dunno about iTunes.

This is it, in a nutshell.

I've also learned a few other tricks over the years to help avoid hangovers. Most of them are contained in this excellent page: How to Prevent a Hangover.

I mix up a cup of Emergen-C vitamin C drink with B vitamins and such, along with a milk thistle and NAC (glutathione precursor) supplement such as this one. This preps the liver for the beating you're about to lay on it. There is also some evidence that saturated fat prior to drinking can also have a protective effect.

Next, stay away from the sugary drinks and you want a clear liquor mixed with some sort of carbonation (this increases absorption). Vodka/club soda/twist of lemon or lime is about as perfect as it gets.

Also, you can switch to just club soda and twist of lime after you've hit your buzz, & still look like you're drinking the same thing.

Then before you go to bed, drink a large 22-32 oz cup of electrolyte water, my favorite is Electro Mix (no sugar), and also prep another one for when you wake up to urinate.

A benadryl will help you sleep through the night, otherwise you might wake up after 4 hours or so.

And this, ladies and gentlemen, is how you can get a nice buzz on and have a good chance of feeling just fine the next day. Also, you get what you pay for with vodka. Look for something distilled 5 times and made from pure unicorn tears or something.

You'll see in the examine article for Magnesium that I linked why I suggest it and Vit D; people are a lot of times deficient in one, or both. Fish Oil is just generally also seen as a good thing to supplement, and it also helps the Vit D be absorbed.

These things, in my experience, give you a much better baseline. Unless you have a really solid/varied diet/lots of sun exposure, these can really help.

You might make a mess of a switch or pot on your first time around dripping extra solder and shorting out some connections but those are also the cheapest components involved so no sweat if you need to swap something out.

Before you solder you want to make a physical connection first. Twist up the tips of the wire so they're thinner and thread them through the little eye holes on the contact points and bend them over into a hook shape so they're now hanging onto the part before heat gets involved.

Now apply the iron tip to the component where you're going to solder for a second or two to heat it up and touch the solder wire to the component (not just to the iron tip) and it should melt and flow to lock down the physical connection you formed above.

Your biggest danger is mostly going to be burning/melting components by having the iron in contact with them for too long so just work quickly and deliberately and you shouldn't have any issues.

A higher quality iron with variable temperature control should make this easier as the really cheap $10 irons often don't get hot enough to melt cheaper solder quickly so you spend more time pressing the hot tip to the components trying to melt solder and burn up gear.

Don't skimp on tools.

Also wear safety glasses as the last thing you want to do is fling hot solder off a springy wire right into your stupid eyes.

"Helping Hands" tools can be really useful as well. Most of the time when you burn yourself it's when you're doing something that kinda requires more than two hands at once so instead of holding pliers and an iron like chopsticks with solder in your mouth and a row of blisters on your thumb just take a step back and find a smarter way to work.

Oh and just a reminder - metal is a great conductor of heat so if you're putting the iron to a component you'll notice pretty quick if your skin is touching another exposed metal surface of the same component or wire.
